How does Sena’s new GoPro integration work. What is Mesh Reach-Out and how does it enhance group rides. What are the key features and benefits of Sena’s latest communication technology updates.
Sena’s Latest Tech Updates: GoPro Integration and Mesh Reach-Out
Sena, a leading manufacturer of motorcycle communication systems, has recently announced two groundbreaking updates to their technology: GoPro integration and Mesh Reach-Out. These innovations are set to transform the way riders capture their adventures and communicate on the road.
GoPro Integration: Hands-Free Recording for Riders
One of the most exciting features introduced by Sena is the GoPro integration for their 50R and 50S communication units. This update allows riders to control their GoPro cameras using voice commands, eliminating the need for manual operation while riding.
How Does the GoPro Integration Work?
To utilize this feature, riders need to follow these simple steps:
- Add the “GoPro Pairing” feature on the Sena Device Manager
- Ensure the firmware is updated
- Sync the GoPro with the Sena comm unit
Once set up, riders can use voice commands such as “GoPro, camera on” and “GoPro, start recording” to control their cameras hands-free. This integration allows for seamless video recording, snapshot capturing, and even time-lapse filming, all without taking hands off the handlebars.
Compatible GoPro Models
Sena has confirmed compatibility with the following GoPro models:
- GoPro Hero 8
- GoPro Hero 9
- GoPro Hero 10
- GoPro Hero 11
- GoPro Hero Max
Essentially, any GoPro model that supports voice commands can be integrated with the Sena 50R/50S comm units.
Mesh Reach-Out: Enhancing Group Communication
The second major update from Sena is the Mesh Reach-Out feature, designed to improve group communication during rides.
What is Mesh Reach-Out?
Mesh Reach-Out is a new functionality that allows riders to invite others to join their Mesh Intercom network mid-ride. This feature addresses the common issue of losing connection with group members during a ride and having to stop to re-establish communication.
How Does Mesh Reach-Out Function?
With Mesh Reach-Out, riders can send an invitation to join their Mesh Intercom network to other nearby Sena users. This invitation can be accepted or declined by the recipient, providing a seamless way to expand or reconnect the communication network without interrupting the ride.
Benefits of Sena’s New Technology Updates
The introduction of GoPro integration and Mesh Reach-Out brings several advantages to motorcycle riders:
- Enhanced safety by allowing hands-free camera operation
- Improved video capture capabilities without compromising riding focus
- Streamlined group communication, reducing the need for stops to reconnect
- Increased flexibility in managing riding groups and communication networks
- Better overall riding experience with seamless tech integration
Impact on the Motorcycle Riding Experience
These technological advancements from Sena are set to significantly impact the motorcycle riding experience. By integrating communication systems with popular action cameras and enhancing group connectivity, riders can enjoy a more immersive and connected journey.
Enhanced Safety and Convenience
The hands-free GoPro control not only adds convenience but also contributes to rider safety. By eliminating the need to manually operate a camera, riders can keep their focus on the road and their surroundings.
Improved Group Dynamics
Mesh Reach-Out addresses one of the common pain points in group rides – maintaining consistent communication. This feature allows for more fluid group dynamics, enabling riders to easily reconnect or add new members to the communication network without disrupting the flow of the ride.
Future Implications for Motorcycle Technology
Sena’s latest updates hint at an exciting future for motorcycle technology. As communication systems become more integrated with other devices and offer increasingly sophisticated features, riders can expect a more connected and technologically enhanced riding experience.
Potential for Further Integrations
The successful integration with GoPro cameras opens up possibilities for future partnerships with other tech companies. We might see integrations with navigation systems, smartphone apps, or even advanced telemetry systems for performance monitoring.
Advancements in Mesh Technology
The Mesh Reach-Out feature suggests that mesh communication technology in motorcycling is evolving. Future developments could lead to even more robust and flexible communication networks, possibly extending to larger groups or longer distances.
User Experience and Feedback
While these features are newly released, early user feedback will be crucial in understanding their real-world performance and impact. Riders who have experienced these new technologies firsthand can provide valuable insights into their effectiveness and any potential areas for improvement.
Initial Reception
Initial reactions to Sena’s announcements have been largely positive, with many riders expressing excitement about the potential for easier video capture and improved group communication. However, as with any new technology, real-world testing will be key to determining its long-term value and adoption.
Potential Challenges
Some potential challenges that users might face include:
- Learning curve for voice commands and new features
- Compatibility issues with older devices
- Battery life concerns with increased functionality
- Potential for distraction if not used responsibly
Comparing Sena’s Technology with Competitors
Sena’s new features position them at the forefront of motorcycle communication technology. However, it’s worth considering how these innovations compare to offerings from other manufacturers in the market.
GoPro Integration
While some other brands offer camera integration, Sena’s direct voice control of GoPro cameras is a standout feature. This level of seamless integration is currently unmatched by most competitors.
Mesh Communication
Mesh communication technology is not unique to Sena, with brands like Cardo also offering mesh intercom systems. However, the Mesh Reach-Out feature provides a unique solution to the common problem of reconnecting riders mid-ride.

Some features require linking your Amazon account, and downloading the Alexa application or using a compatible Alexa device. Internet connection speeds and availability depend on your internet service provider; if your internet service provider does not provide you with the maximum supported speed, you will not experience that maximum speed. Maximum network speeds, if applicable, reflect combined supported speeds across wired and wireless clients. Maximum wireless signal rates are derived from IEEE 802. 11 standard. Specifications assume wired Ethernet connection; your experienced speed may vary when connected to an eero device that is configured as a wireless extender. Coverage estimates are based on normal use conditions. Actual range and performance can vary, and maximum supported speeds may not be available to all customers, due to factors such as local regulations (including power limits), network configuration, interference, connected devices, device usage, building materials, and obstructions. For eero 6+ and eero Pro 6E, specifications are based on use of a Wi-Fi 6 (or for eero Pro 6E in Canada, Wi-Fi 6E) or later generation client device that supports 160 MHz. For eero 6, eero 6 extender, and eero Pro 6, specifications are based on use of a Wi-Fi 6 or later client device. For eero, eero Beacon, and eero Pro, specifications are based on use of a Wi-Fi 5 or later client device. For more information about eero performance, visit support.eero.com.
