HCA’s Lower School Summer Camp Program offers four full weeks in the month of June and provides a hands-on educational and creative day camp with fun weekly themes. Students will enjoy daily activities that include arts and science, indoor and outdoor play, games, water play, dance movement and music.

Who can attend: Rising Kindergarten – 6th grade
Camp times: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Before and after care is available)

Camp Invention Encourages Creativity, Problem Solving Through STEM Learning. Hebron Christian Academy, K-12 Private School in Dacula GA.

Camp Invention, the nation’s premier summer enrichment day camp program, supported by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and a product of the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF), is coming to Hebron Christian Academy the week of June 6, 2016.

For students entering grades one through six, Camp Invention is a week long adventure that will turn the summer from ordinary to extraordinary through hands-on problem solving, using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Camp Invention provides an opportunity for inventive young minds to exercise their creativity and use their imagination in ways they don’t normally get to in the classroom. Program participants do not realize they are learning and developing new skills as they build prototypes, take things apart, explore different types of technology and so much more.

Alice Opperman, Director of Curriculum for Emerson Public Schools in Emerson, NJ, shared the following thoughts on Camp Invention. “The hands-on curriculum helps to further insert curiosity into a child’s everyday lifestyle. As the need for skilled STEM professionals increases, we believe we are setting our students up for success by offering programs like Camp Invention.”

This year’s Camp Invention curriculum is called Epic™, inspired by some of our nation’s most brilliant minds including experienced educators, Inductees of the National Inventors Hall of Fame and developed in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Epic™ features hands-on modules like CrickoBot™, where campers construct and personalize a DIY solar-powered cricket and a unique habitat; Epic Park™, where campers work in teams to design an eco-adventure park; I Can Invent: Maker Studio™, where campers brainstorm product ideas and build original prototypes using real tools and components found in everyday devices; and The Lab: Where Pigs Fly™, where children can discover the science of slime, demolition, electronic sound, giant squid and coding. 900 07 – The World Council of Churches (WCC) announces the election of a new general secretary and the hiring of three new full-time leaders.

Jerry Pillay was elected as the eighth general secretary of in the history of the WCC since the Fellowship of Churches was founded in 1948. The Church of the Brethren is one of the founding denominations of the WCC. Originally from South Africa, Pillay is currently Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Pretoria and a member of the United Presbyterian Church in South Africa. Pillay will replace outgoing Acting General Secretary Ioan Sauk, who began serving in the position in April 2020 when previous General Secretary Olav Fixe Tveit was named Presiding Bishop of the Church of Norway. Pillay will take office on January 1, 2023.

The three new leaders who will begin their appointments in November and December are:

Kuzipa Nalvamba , who will serve as Program Director of Unity and Mission. From Zambia, she is Professor of Ecumenical Social Ethics and is currently Director of the WCC Program for Ecumenical Theological Education. She holds a PhD in Systematic Theology from the University of Pretoria.

Kenneth Mtata appointed director of the Public Witness and Diakonia program. He is currently General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches and an ecumenical theologian with over 20 years experience in pastoral work, academic research and religious organizational leadership.

Peter Crutchley, who will chair the World Mission and Evangelism Commission. UK Theological Missionary, minister of the United Reformed Church in the UK and currently Mission Secretary for Mission Development on the World Mission Board.

The Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) has published its latest newsletter at www.brethren.org/bvs/updates. Summer 2022 issue Volunteer includes, among other things, the stories of current volunteers and interim director Dan McFadden.
