hell yes thanks for putting in the work. hopefully we can get some new gear in the january patch.
it’s crazy how bad the old equipment models look compared to the new stuff. same with the new jerseys. like the crest on the slovakia (maybe czech) jerseys shining in the light is an amazing effect that i can’t wait to see more of. hopefully we can keep getting more stuff as the year goes on.

Hope to see some more stuff as well. I haven’t been told they are stopping, so that is good news.
I figured updating the thread with equipment updates seemed relevant. I’ll keep it strictly goalie related going forward.
Keep adding examples you want to see but I want to make it clear. There is no guarantee requests on these forums will lead to fruition. These are requests passed along to the team for consideration for future design. One thing to keep note though when it comes to these type of requests is that the team has content plans under their belt. New requests have to tie in to an existing schedule and of course the NHL and licensed companies come into play. It’s cool the Staple Pigeon X Sherwood Hockey Gear came out in our game before it does it real life. I’m sure marketing teams for all companies involved look for opportunities like that which could play a factor too before adding it into a game. There’s a lot that goes into this behind the scenes so we do appreciate your patience and hope you enjoy discussing goalie equipment you all prefer here on this forum post.

@EvaElfieSimp Could not agree more. I know this thread is goalie only, but I’m always baffled why old gear/jerseys are left in the game. Do we really need a CCM, RBK and Adidas version of the Blackhawks jerseys?
As for goalie equipment. Please let us fully customize the goalies in WoC. Why can’t I change my teams goalie helmet from white? Or swap to Bauers instead of CCMs. Not to mention True pads…

Dear EA please add new goalkeeping equipment (true, vaughn, brians).

Hockey skates: a look under the microscope of a professional
Skates are the main piece of equipment for a professional hockey player. A well-chosen model determines the comfort, safety and technical nuances of the game. Purchasing skates for professional sports is not an easy process. The model is always selected according to the individual characteristics of the hockey player: the anatomical specifics of the leg, the preferred style of play, the role of the athlete in the team (forward, defender, goalkeeper). The purpose of our article is to simply and intelligibly tell about all the important nuances associated with the choice of hockey skates.
About the design features of hockey skates
Despite the external similarity with their counterparts, for example, figure or walking skates, hockey equipment is a separate class of sports equipment that has fundamental differences. The design of the skate consists of three basic elements: boot, blade and glass (rack) .
Hockey models blades are made of high-strength steel, arc-shaped with rounded ends, without teeth on the front; are interchangeable or monolithic. The length of the blades of hockey skates is equal to the length of the boot.
Glass (rack) – called a plastic holder in which the blade is attached. This important element, connecting the boot and the metal sheet, largely determines the ride quality of the skates. In particular, such an important characteristic as the height of the heel depends on the characteristics of the glass. Models with a raised heel have high maneuverability and speed, for which they are valued by attacking players. Low – more suitable for defenders. Some modern models use the technology of changing the height of the heel. By adjusting the depth of the “sink” of the blade in one of three positions, you can experiment with different combinations and customize the skates for yourself.
The importance of every little thing
The design of hockey skates is designed for a dynamic riding style, with fast acceleration and sudden stops. Hockey equipment has thoughtful protection. It provides secure fixation of the ankle and reinforced body protection. The shoes themselves are made of durable wear-resistant materials.
The developers of hockey shoes took care of numerous nuances. Modern models are distinguished by improved ventilation, they use materials due to which the boot takes the exact shape of the player’s foot, the skates are equipped with anatomical and moisture-repellent insoles – all these and other solutions make hockey equipment as comfortable, safe and effective as possible in the game.
For forwards, defensemen and goalkeepers
Professional hockey skates have an internal classification. Depending on the game functions of an athlete, attacking, defensive and goalkeeper models are distinguished in the team.
Attack skates are lightweight versions that are characterized by increased maneuverability and give advantages in speed. They have a balanced ratio of “weight-protection” characteristics.
Skates for defenders is the so-called. power models. They are less manoeuvrable, but have better body protection designed to protect the player’s leg from puck and stick strikes.
The Goalkeeper Models are skates with reinforced areas that are hit the most. In them, the main emphasis is on the protective qualities.
Anatomy of a hockey boot
The boots of modern skates are made from a variety of materials: nylon reinforced with a reinforcing mesh, synthetic leather, composites, etc. Usually several materials are used in the model. So, places that are especially vulnerable to bumps and cuts – the top, toe, heel – are made of high-strength nylon or special composites. To provide additional lateral rigidity, sealing inserts are necessarily present in the boots. It is important to understand that professional-class skates are designed to play in an indoor rink. The materials used in such models are not adapted to large sub-zero temperatures. The exception is special frost-resistant models.
The inner part of the boot of the vast majority of professional skates is made of special thermoformable materials, which, when heated, are able to perfectly fit the anatomical shape of the foot. The essence of such thermal molding is to heat the boot in a special oven. After being put on the foot and a short stretch, the material is molded to the shape of the foot, providing a perfect fit from heel to toe.
Thermoformed insoles work on a similar principle. Their task is to reduce unused space inside the boot, increase the area of contact of the foot with the sole and improve balance. All this ensures the speed, rigidity and strength of the athlete’s movements. Modern insoles have an antimicrobial effect, well remove moisture and have an anti-slip design.
Boot tongue is another important element of hockey equipment that you should pay attention to when choosing a model. It must also have an anatomical design (to repeat the bend of the leg) and be completed with a stiffening insert. The task of the latter is not only to protect the foot from impacts, but also to evenly distribute the pressure of the laces.
Skate blades: types and principles of sharpening
Blades are the most important element of hockey skates, which determine their playing characteristics: acceleration, control, turning patterns, maneuverability. All professional grade blades are made from high quality stainless steel. At the same time, the metal itself differs in the degree of hardening. The higher it is, the higher the characteristics of the blade: it keeps its sharpness longer, has a longer service life and is able to withstand repeated sharpening cycles.
Depending on the model and class of hockey equipment, the blades can be interchangeable or form a monolithic structure with the skate body. Most professional options are equipped with a replacement system. The blade is easily installed in a plastic cup (rack) and fixed by clamping mechanisms. In this matter, each manufacturer offers its own technology. For some, the replacement process is quite complicated, and involves the use of special keys, screws and rivets. More advanced systems allow you to rearrange the blades in just a matter of seconds without the use of any additional tool. For ordinary hockey players who routinely replace blades as they wear out, this option is useless. But for players of a higher professional class, it can come in handy. By carrying different sets of blades that are easy to change in a few seconds, the hockey player will be able to use different sharpening options for different types of ice surface or change the game strategy by installing the right set of skids.
To the question of sharpening. In professional hockey, the blades are subjected to an enormous load, as a result of which they quickly lose their sharpness. Blade sharpening is an obligatory and systematic procedure, on which the riding qualities of the equipment directly depend. Some athletes prefer to sharpen their equipment almost after every workout.
The blade of a hockey skate has the shape of a groove with two sharply sharpened edges. This is the classic and most popular sharpening option. It works according to the following principle: when sliding, friction occurs, which melts the ice and forms the so-called blades in the groove. water cushion, which helps to reduce friction. Due to this, the sliding speed increases significantly.
The depth of the groove determines the ice adhesion coefficient; by adjusting it during sharpening, you can control the sliding characteristics of the skate, choosing the best option. Hockey blades are sharpened on special machines. Self-maintenance without knowledge of special skills can irreparably damage the blade of expensive skates.
How to choose the right size?
To begin with, hockey skates have their own sizing system, and it does not correspond to the labeling of ordinary shoes. Each manufacturer of sports products offers its own correspondence table. Using it, you can easily choose the right skates, knowing the size of your everyday shoes.
As an example, let’s take a GRAF size chart.
When choosing the right option for skates, it is important to consider not only their length, but also their fullness. This parameter refers to the width of the boot. There is much less confusion on this issue, because most manufacturers offer only three standards for the width of hockey skates: C (narrow), D (standard), EE (wide).
The correct choice of size ensures a tight and comfortable fit of the boot, this in turn is the key to effective and safe training. In order to make sure that hockey skates are selected correctly, be guided by the following diagram.
1. Loosen the top two-thirds of the lacing, fold back your tongue and slide your foot into the boot. The leg should feel natural and comfortable. In the right boot, it completely fills the interior space, firmly rests the heel against the heel counter and lightly touches the front of the toes. The area of the instep of the foot and toes should not be left empty.
2. Before lacing, move your foot sharply back so that the heel rests as tightly as possible on the heel counter. In a lace-up boot, it should be completely fixed. If the heel walks freely inside the boot, then the skates are incorrectly matched in length or fullness.
3. Standing straight in lace-up skates, the toes should only slightly touch the front of the boot. When performing driving movements, they will rest against the toe more, but this should not be associated with any discomfort. While riding, the heel should not move down or “walk” from side to side.
The heat molding of the boot, discussed above, is an important technology with many benefits for professional hockey players. But it is not a magic wand. If the skates are not initially fitted correctly, molding will not provide a perfect fit. At the same time, even after such a procedure, it takes a certain time to break the skates so that they not only sit perfectly on the leg, but also bend under it while skating.
The selection of skates is made under the socks in which you will train. It is desirable that they be as thin as possible, in this case the boot will mold faster and better to the specifics of your foot, providing an exact anatomical fit.
The choice of the size of children’s skates is another important issue with which there are many difficulties. Given the rapid growth of the child’s leg, many parents have a desire to save money and take the model for growth. Such a strategy is acceptable, but the maximum stock should not exceed one size. Otherwise, a boot that is too big will make it difficult to set up a skiing technique and increase the likelihood of injury.
Hockey skate lacing
Separately, it is worth paying attention to the principles of lacing hockey boots. It is carried out according to the following scheme:
• the lower third of the lacing (the first 3-4 holes) is not tightened too much;
• in the instep zone – the middle of the lacing – the laces are tightened more tightly to ensure a rigid fixation of the heel;
• In the upper third, the tightening is again slightly loosened so that the lower leg is not too pinched.
This lacing pattern
provides the most correct fixation of the foot, guaranteeing its safety and
correct operation while riding.

All hockey simulators represent a sliding surface (synthetic ice), on which the athlete works out the elements of stick handling, dribbling, throwing, skating technique. Goalkeepers work out all the elements of goalkeeping skills. The simulators are an integral part of the OFP for hockey players during the summer season, and allow off-ice hockey training, the so-called dry hockey training.
