What led to the cancellation of Ohio Dreams 2019 summer camp. How will Ohio Dreams continue to operate after this decision. What alternatives are being offered for BMX enthusiasts and campers.
The Legacy of Ohio Dreams Action Sports Camp
Ohio Dreams Action Sports Camp, located in the picturesque Ohio countryside about an hour north of Columbus, has been a beloved destination for BMX enthusiasts for over a decade. For 11 years, this camp has been at the forefront of BMX-racing-centered summer programs, attracting participants from across the country and even internationally.
The camp’s unique blend of professional coaching, state-of-the-art facilities, and a supportive community environment has made it a cornerstone in the BMX world. Many BMXers, both young and old, have fond memories of their time at Ohio Dreams, where they honed their skills, made lifelong friends, and nurtured their passion for the sport.
Unexpected Announcement: 2019 Summer Camp Cancellation
In a surprising turn of events, Ohio Dreams recently announced the cancellation of their 2019 summer camp program. This news came as a shock to many eager parents and campers who were already making plans for their annual pilgrimage to the camp.
The camp’s management, led by owner Christ Ashcraft and camp director Justin Travis, cited “circumstances beyond our control” as the primary reason for this difficult decision. These circumstances reportedly involve issues with funding and the full utilization of the lodging facilities that the camp has been renting for the past eleven years.
Factors Contributing to the Cancellation
- Funding challenges
- Issues with lodging facilities
- Inability to find a viable solution in time
Despite efforts to find an alternative, the management ultimately concluded that running the traditional summer camp in 2019 would not be feasible. This decision was not made lightly, and the announcement was delayed as long as possible in hopes of finding a solution.
The Future of Ohio Dreams: Adapting and Evolving
While the cancellation of the 2019 summer camp is undoubtedly disappointing for many, Ohio Dreams is not shutting down completely. The management has outlined several plans to keep the spirit of the camp alive and continue serving the BMX community.
Transition to Festival and Event Venue
To keep the project alive and the doors open, Ohio Dreams plans to repurpose its sports facilities as a festival and event venue. This pivot allows the camp to maintain its presence in the action sports community while exploring new avenues for engagement and revenue.
Open Dates for Public Use
The camp will be announcing open dates for the public to use both the indoor and outdoor facilities. These opportunities will be communicated through the Ohio Dreams website and Facebook page, allowing BMX enthusiasts to continue enjoying the world-class amenities the camp has to offer.
Regional Focus and Coaching Programs
Ohio Dreams will maintain its commitment to coaching by collaborating with other facilities and communities. The camp’s experienced coaches will create programs in various locations, albeit with a more regional focus for the time being.
Impact on the BMX Community
The cancellation of the 2019 summer camp is undoubtedly a significant loss for the BMX community. Ohio Dreams has played a crucial role in nurturing talent, fostering friendships, and creating unforgettable experiences for countless individuals over the years.
Many campers who traveled from far and wide to attend the camp each summer have become part of what the management affectionately calls the “Ohio Dreams Family.” The camp’s influence extends beyond just skill development, encompassing personal growth, character building, and the formation of lasting relationships.
Community Response and Support
The announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from the BMX community. Many former campers, parents, and industry professionals have expressed their gratitude for the experiences and opportunities Ohio Dreams has provided over the years.
This strong show of support demonstrates the significant impact Ohio Dreams has had on the BMX world and underscores the importance of such dedicated training facilities in nurturing the sport’s future.
Alternatives for BMX Enthusiasts
With the cancellation of the 2019 summer camp, many BMX enthusiasts may be wondering about alternative options for training and skill development. While Ohio Dreams’ program was unique, there are other opportunities available for those looking to improve their BMX skills.
Other BMX Camps and Clinics
- Woodward Camp (Pennsylvania and California)
- Camp Momentum (Colorado)
- Local BMX track clinics and workshops
These alternatives, while not exact replicas of the Ohio Dreams experience, can provide valuable training and networking opportunities for BMX riders of all levels.
The Importance of Specialized BMX Training Facilities
The situation with Ohio Dreams highlights the crucial role that specialized training facilities play in the development of BMX as a sport. These camps and training centers offer unique advantages that are difficult to replicate in other settings.
Benefits of Specialized BMX Facilities
- Access to professional coaching and mentorship
- State-of-the-art equipment and tracks
- Immersive learning environment
- Networking opportunities with peers and industry professionals
- Safe and controlled training conditions
The loss, even if temporary, of a facility like Ohio Dreams underscores the need for continued support and investment in such specialized training centers to ensure the growth and development of BMX as a sport.
Looking Ahead: The Potential Return of Ohio Dreams
While the cancellation of the 2019 summer camp is a setback, there is hope for the future of Ohio Dreams. The management has expressed their commitment to continuing their work in the BMX community, albeit in a different capacity for the time being.
Is there a possibility of Ohio Dreams returning to its former glory as a full-fledged summer camp? While no specific plans have been announced, the management’s statement that they are “not going away quite so easily” suggests that they are exploring options for the future.
Potential Scenarios for Ohio Dreams’ Future
- Resumption of summer camp programs in future years
- Development of new, more sustainable business models
- Partnerships with other organizations or facilities
- Expansion of regional coaching programs
The BMX community will be eagerly watching for updates on the future of Ohio Dreams and any potential return to its summer camp format.
The BMX Community’s Role in Supporting Training Facilities
The challenges faced by Ohio Dreams serve as a reminder of the importance of community support in maintaining and growing specialized training facilities for BMX and other action sports. The BMX community can play a crucial role in ensuring the survival and success of such facilities.
Ways the Community Can Support BMX Training Facilities
- Participating in events and open sessions
- Spreading awareness about the importance of specialized training
- Volunteering time and skills to support facility operations
- Advocating for government and corporate support for action sports facilities
- Providing feedback and suggestions to help facilities improve and adapt
By actively supporting facilities like Ohio Dreams, the BMX community can help ensure that future generations of riders have access to high-quality training opportunities and continue to push the sport forward.
As the situation with Ohio Dreams continues to evolve, it serves as both a cautionary tale and a call to action for the BMX community. The passion and dedication that have defined Ohio Dreams for over a decade are sure to drive its next chapter, whatever form it may take. In the meantime, the BMX world will continue to cherish the memories and lessons learned at this beloved camp, eagerly anticipating what the future holds for Ohio Dreams and similar facilities dedicated to nurturing the next generation of BMX talent.
Ohio Dreams Cancels 2019 Summer Camp
The concept of a BMX-racing-centered Summer Camp is an idea that makes BMXers young and old howl with delight. Situated in the Ohio countryside, about an hour north of Columbus, is Ohio Dreams, which has been operating for the past 11 years.
A whole generation of BMXers grew up making the trek, by planes, trains and automobiles (busses, too) for week-long programs led by popular coaches, and hosted by Justin Travis and camp owner, Christ Ashcraft.
The team released some unfortunate news recently, just as eager parents were starting to call about booking their annual trip.
It is with heavy hearts that we must make this announcement.
Circumstances beyond our control regarding funding and full utilization of the lodging we have rented for the last eleven years has put us in a spot to make this unfortunate and difficult decision. Due to this, we will be unable to run our traditional summer camp in 2019.
We apologize for the timeliness of this announcement as we have delayed it as long as we could to try and work out a viable solution. Unfortunately we cannot.
Do not despair too much though as we are not going away quite so easily. For the time being, the sports facilities will be used as a festival and event venue to keep the doors open and the project alive. We will be planning some open dates for the public to come in and use the Indoor and Outdoor facilities, these will be announced via our website and Facebook page as soon as we have them.
Ohio Dreams as brand will remain coaching focused by working with other facilities and communities for our coaches to create programs through. This change will mean that for the time being we will end up being more regional focused with our offerings.
To those of you who traveled from hours and states (and even countries) away to join us every summer, you will always be part of the Ohio Dreams Family, because well, “Once in the family, always in the family” We cannot express how much we have enjoyed working with your kids, and our staff over the years and how much we appreciate all your Love and support.
To our loyal local network of coaches, friends, family, and sports businesses, we look forward to continuing our relationships and helping out any way that we can.
Again we can not begin to thank all of the people that have helped make this dream a reality, it is because of all of you we got to touch so many lives. We Love you and will forever be grateful for you!
We will always be there, on the slopes, at the track, in the park, and even in the skies. We are working on the future and we can’t wait to see you there.
As always, Blue Skies, Big Dreams.
The Ohio Dreams Family.
It sounds like there is at least a hope of programming coming back at some point, and our fingers are crossed for that happening.
Meanwhile, stick with BMX News for updates on the “Open dates” mentioned in the release.

Thursdays in Tulsa are famous for a few things. BMX friends meetin’ up for the first time in a month or two, thanksgiving-dinner-ala-pit-space, and fine tuning your gate start game at Pro Gate. This year, they’re changing things up a bit, with free coaching from Noon-4PM, offered alongside your Pro Gate punch card.
Here is the schedule of coaches waiting to help you out on Thursday:
Noon to 1PM: Donny Robinson and Carley Young
1PM-2PM: Olijuwon Davis and Tyler Whitfield
2PM-3PM: Justin Travis and Justin Richmond
3PM-4PM: Heather Collman and Zach Alexander
No need to sign up for anything, just show up at the Pro Gate area on Thursday, purchase a punch card ($20 for 25 gates), and watch the magic happen. The coaching will be underway continuously from Noon-4PM, so they’re rollin as long as you’re snappin.
And, of course once the coaching is over, the Pro Gate area will still be open til deep into Sunday afternoon, so you can stay sharp and ready to rip some major holeshots when it’s for real.

This one has been out for a couple weeks, but it only had 400 views on it, so we’re thinkin you probably haven’t seen it yet. Ohio Dreams camp is out with a two-and-a-half minute edit with some highlights of their 2014 BMX Racing sessions. We see the various types of riders who take the trip out to Ohio, as well as some of the riding they do–on the big hill, on the pump track, on the regular race track, etc.
The edit opens with some of the non-BMX fun that Ohio Dreams has for campers–including the mega slide!
We have heard great things about the program Justin Travis and his crew put on every year, and we need to get our cameras out there in 2015 for a visit!
Before that happens though, give the vid a look as an appetizer.
Ohio Dreams will also be heading down to Tulsa town for the 2014 USA BMX Grands this week. Stop by and say hi and see/hear more about the camping experience.
When there’s no doubt, share it out!

Some headline news out of the Buckeye State today, where we get first word that Ohio Dreams is working on a regulation-height Supercross Hill and first straight for use as part of their wildly-successful BMX training program.
News traded email with BMX Program Director, Justin Travis, who gave us some of the finer points on the new feature.
About the Hill
The SX Training Hill will be full size and spec in height, transitions and angles, but will be 16 feet wide, with a two-man gate, allowing riders to become comfortable on the hill next to another rider, but allowing more room than an eight-man gate might. This will reduce the chance of rider entanglement. The hill is also equipped with the same Brower timing system used in Chula Vista, which will allow for accurate comparisons between our hill and theirs, when riders attend camps at either facility.About the first straight
The first straight was also carefully thought out to help riders progress to an SX environment. The first thing we did was to move the position of the first lip a little further away than normal from the bottom of the SX hill. This was done so riders are able to get used to the speed and compression they feel at the bottom of the hill, without having to be instantly set up for a large first jump. The next thing we did was to mellow the first jump out a little and make it a table top so riders can become used to hitting a jump that large at full SX speeds. Finally we allowed for a good amount of pedal and set up room before the final jump which is a very large Step-Table that mimics the size and height of the traditional step-triple at the end of many SX first straights but with the second and third rollers filled in so riders are able to learn to safely boost a long, tall, step up at full speed. With many multiyear campers entering the junior development age and some even heading to the junior development camp next week, we wanted to add a feature that will help riders be better prepared to move into that program, and beyond. Since we already have a “Progression Center,” with steadily increasing SX jumps that everyone can attempt, and two 300’ long SX-size rhythm sections the only thing we were missing to help riders progress even further was a full size SX Hill.
A little about Ohio Dreams
As with everything we design and build at Ohio Dreams, safe rider progression is our main goal. The safer a rider feels, the more confident they can be, and the more confident they are, the more we can progress them. Right now Ohio Dreams is the only facility out there designed with all racers needs in mind. Currently we are sitting on 66 acres and feature a full size, downhill BMX Race Track, a covered pump track, a sprint area, the Progression Center and Rhythm Sections, a Weight Room, Trails, class rooms, a great staff of instructors and guests that includes Olympians and the USA BMX Coaching Director and plenty of additional features to keep training fun!
The project is planned for completion in time for the first day of camp on June 23, so be sure to watch for the first photos here on BMX News.

In our Tweets on the worlds last week, we had a burst about Danny Caluag making the Olympics for the Philippines. His challenge was a little different than the “making the team” challenges we are used to on the US Olympic Team side. In Danny’s case, he knew he would be on the team–but the question of where The Philippines would get a country slot in the London Games was the question.
By making the quarterfinal, Danny earned one of six available country slots left open for countries who did not qualify on ranking points.
So, Danny C is headed to London, and could not be more stoked about the opportunity.
News talked to Danny yesterday, as he was getting ready to do a pre-national clinic at Nashville’s Music City BMX with Weston Pope.
Danny said the support from his sponsors this year has been incredible, and that the guys at Speedco “welcomed him back with open arms,” and have been “a dream come true” since he slipped the Speedco jersey on, after a one year hiatus.
One of the things that struck us about the chat, was that, despite being an Olympian-in-training–for the race of his life–coming up in 67 days, he is still keeping his commitment to be the resident pro at Ohio Dreams this summer.
We talked about the Ohio Dreams Summer 2012 program a little in our Oldsmar coverage, back on February 10, but Danny had committed to be a resident pro for several of the week-long camp sessions, beginning June 24. And he wanted everyone to know that he’ll be there, right up to the time he has to wing on over to London.
Ohio Dreams Program Director, Justin Travis, said that they are sold out for many of the week-long sessions, but have a waiting list started. They also have three week-long sessions, in which the normal Ohio Dreams staff will be joined by guest instructors from the likes of:
GT Bicycles (July 8 – 14)
Madera BMX (July 29 – August 4)
Yess BMX (August 12-18)
Danny is a great guy, and an old friend of BMX News. Big congrats on earning a slot, and all the best!

With Summer 2011 about to jump off, we decided to bring you inside Ohio Dreams Action Sports Camp in Ohio. Like all summer camps, it has woods, trails, lots of activities, the chance to meet new friends and hang out with longtime pals.
Add in the fact that it is a BMX Racing specific summer camp, and you’ll be packing your 10 pairs of socks, eight pairs of underwear and two toothbrushes before the end of the show.
Ohio Dreams Program Director Justin Travis takes us into a typical day in the life of an Ohio Dreams BMX Racing camper (they also have camp for Skateboarding, Inline Skate, Scooter, Ski & Snowboard and BMX Freestyle).
We also ask Justin to talk about the differences between a clinic you might find at a local track, and a sleepover camp like Ohio Dreams…and how his staffers are chosen and trained to keep your kid a (we can’t resist…) happy camper.
Definitely worth a listen, whether or not you are considering a summer stretch for your 7-17 year old.
The intro and outro music is from the classic 1963 campy song about camp; “Hello Muddah Hello Faddah” by Allan Sherman, via YouTube.

Justin Travis and his posse at the Ohio Dreams Action Sports camp have been busy getting the program dialed in for the 2010 camp season. Part of the good stuff this year is a girls-only training camp, led by megawatt lady pro and holder-of-all-BMX-titles-known-to-man-or-beast, Jamie Lilly.
The week will undoubtedly focus on girl-specific tips and tricks on the track and in training. Jamie and her co-leader, Carley Young, have been there, done that for decades, and will have some high-value nuggets of knowledge to kick down.

Tips for Choosing the Best Sports Camp for Your Child This Summer
1. Ask Your Child

2. Talk to Their Teachers
Other than you and your family, who else knows your child’s development needs better than their teachers? Sports coaches and classroom teachers past, present and future, as well as guidance counselors and childcare-givers may all have excellent ideas about what will help your child thrive and reach their full potential. Don’t be shy, raise your hand and ask!

Benefits Of Attending Sports Camps For Youth & Teen Athletes
The advantages of summer sports camps include a list of physical and mental benefits for children of various ages. Transferring from elementary school, middle school and high school, kids need positive influences. Summer sports camps help give them the tools to develop and succeed not only physically, but also mentally and socially as they grow.
Summer is a time of stagnant activity because many sports teams are no longer in-season. With no structured sporting activities with a school or travel team, the next best option is to register your son or daughter for an athletic camp. They will have the opportunity to have fun while learning and gaining experience. Consistently working on the mechanics of a sport will increase a child’s skill level and confidence while also taking them outside their comfort zone — forcing them to persevere through uncertainties and fears.
The Value of Summer Camp Experiences During COVID-19
Summer sports camps provide a lot of value to attendees, especially during these times. We all need activity and enrichment, especially children, and that’s hard to come by during the COVID-19 pandemic. But with restrictions easing into the green phase, summer day camps are now able to open and welcome attendees for the season. With those summer camp experiences available, children can have access to benefits like:
- Health benefits and exercise: Staying at home more in light of the COVID-19 pandemic means children may not get as much exercise as they need. Whether you don’t have space at home inside or outside, a camp gives you the solution. Your kids get plenty of room to exercise and play.
- Socialization: For the past few months, kids have been cooped up indoors. They’ve been interacting with teachers and classmates digitally via video calls for class, but nothing beats in-person interactions and socializing. Give your kids the opportunity to interact with their peers and make new friends at summer camp.
- Learning opportunities: Whether they learn a new sport or learn something about their own skills and abilities, your children are sure to come home from summer camp experiences with new knowledge, which can supplement their time spent out of the classroom this year.
Don’t let your kids miss out on these benefits due to the current pandemic. Summer day camps can still run while following social distancing guidelines and more frequent disinfecting process. At Spooky Nook Sports, health and safety are our top priorities. We’ve been preparing for camp with a COVID-19 reopening plan that includes:
- Following Pennsylvania guidelines for sports activity during the pandemic.
- Temperature checks for campers with contact-free thermometers.
- Masks for Nook staff, unless it creates unsafe conditions for them to operate equipment or lead tasks.
- Suggesting older campers wear masks if they are able.
- Encouraging social distancing of 6 feet.
- Encouraging frequent hand washing.
- Sanitizing frequently touched surfaces.
- Training staff on new health and safety protocols.
We understand parents’ concerns during this time, and summer camp may not be at the top of your priority list. But with so many benefits for children who attend camp, the value can make it a worthwhile decision.
Athletes Reap Benefits From Camps
The primary purpose of summer athletic camps is to immerse kids in specific skill developments for their chosen sport. It can be a fun time for beginners who will learn basic skills and determine if they want to pursue the game. If they do, they will have a foundation to carry them forward. Sports camps are also an excellent refresher of abilities during the long summer break for more advanced players.
Through most of the duration of camp, boys and girls learn new techniques while reviewing common drills. Consistent play is the best way to improve their game. Children learn that hard work pays off, especially if they wish to continue to higher levels. Exposing an athlete to valuable mentorship and elite professional instruction helps them develop trust, self-esteem and a competitive advantage. Colleges can recruit players with strong characteristics in the future.
The coaching staff at sports camps offers superior training and modern techniques to help each athlete improve their speed, conditioning, strength, agility and sport-specific skills. Kids can be competitive in a safe and controlled environment.
Sport-Specific Skills Learned Through Athletic Camps
All competitions have a primary goal — to win. But to win and be the best they can, children need to learn specific skills about their sport. While there are hundreds of techniques kids can perform, summer sports camps are not for professional athletes. Instead, they focus on improving your child’s skills one step at a time.
Training comes in all forms from different coaches and mentors. Although teaching techniques may vary, the result is to support children in gaining new abilities, self-confidence, perseverance and other qualities.
Several techniques learned and developed during different sports camps include:
- Basketball: Shooting, passing, running, ball-handling, jumping, foul shots and physical fitness.
- Field hockey: Push pass, hit pass, trapping, dribbling, shooting, poking and leading.
- Soccer: Dribbling, shooting, passing, heading, goalkeeping, pass plays and one-on-ones.
- Baseball: Hitting, throwing, base running, fielding, catching, eye-hand coordination and pitching.
- Lacrosse: Cradling, scooping, shooting, passing, catching, checking, dodging and proper running.
- Softball: Base running, catching, fielding, hitting, pitching and throwing.
- Volleyball: Serving, blocking, sliding and setting.
- Cheer and gymnastics: Handstands, forward rolls, back handsprings, round offs, one-handed cartwheels and many others.
- Horseback riding: Saddling, posture, mounting and dismounting, trotting, turning and backing up.
Benefits of Summer Camps for Parents
Aside from gaining personal time, parents have the opportunity to encourage their children. You can inspire your son or daughter to try new things, meet new friends and practice a difficult technique. And whether they succeed or fail — and they can’t fail at a camp — you can support them. You can help them practice skills and techniques at home. Sports camps give you the chance to model fairness and kindness and the importance of following rules and playing a fair game.
Because parents work, chauffeur their children around and take care of their home, it’s common to feel left out of the social circle. But when your child participates in a summer program, you, too, can develop a sense of community with the fellow parents and guardians. You can discuss ways to support your kids and share ideas on how to continue their training.
More Than Improving at a Sport
When you register your child for a sports camp, you may have the initial intention of helping them improve their skills. Your daughter may play basketball and take part in gymnastics, and your son may play baseball and have fun learning about horseback riding. And while enhancing your child’s skills is the ultimate objective in sports camps, the benefits are more profound than meets the eye. For example, building relationships, learning valuable interpersonal skills and staying active and healthy are additional aspects your child can gain.
For a more in-depth look at how sports camps can make a positive impact on children, refer to the following benefits:
1. Exercise
It’s no secret that childhood obesity is a growing problem within our country. As children become more addicted to technology, their lives become more sedentary and less active. In fact, childhood obesity has more than tripled in last 30 years according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If a child has an inactive lifestyle relating to online gaming, watching TV, playing video games and checking social media, they can accrue severe health problems.
Sports camps are an alternative activity that promotes exercise. Whether your child participates in soccer or lacrosse, a sports camp encourages healthier habits. When you expose children to positive behaviors, they will be more likely to include physical activity in their routine as they mature. Exercise is vital for the growth, development and health of every child.
2. Independence and Responsibility
Sports camps foster a sense of independence in children as coaches and mentors teach kids to pursue what they want. If your child wishes to play catcher or practice on the balance beam, then go for it! Camps allow kids to have personal responsibilities with little risk of failing. While they are responsible for playing their position and upholding the goal of the team, children don’t fail during camps, as it’s a time to learn. Kids take responsibility for their actions and success while participating in sports camps without relying on their parents or guardians.
3. New Friends
Aside from your child’s group of friends at school, they can meet new friends with similar interests at sports camps. With a fresh group of kids to interact with compared to the same social circle at school, children can gain different insights and skills. Communicating with a diverse mix of boys and girls is valuable.
4. Perseverance
Having perseverance means being persistent in your actions despite difficulties, obstacles or discouragement. With perseverance, children can overcome the difficulties of learning a passing technique, the obstacles of being physically fit and discouragement from their inner thoughts.
At sports camps, children can see and feel the progress they make when they perform drills and different skill sets. Camps foster a sense of desire to continue to grow and set personal goals. Being persistent in achieving what they want will allow kids to not only succeed at sports and at life.
Players can gain confidence when they exceed the expectations of their coaches and mentors. Exposing them to balanced programs with excellent facilities can encourage them to dream bigger dreams — like moving onto a school team or travel team, or recruiting to a collegiate or professional level.
5. Problem-Solving Abilities
Problem-solving doesn’t only occur in the classroom. Whether kids are on the field, court or floor, they will face challenging problems they will need to conquer for themselves and their team. The benefits of summer camps provide your daughter or son the confidence and strength of mind to deal with any challenge. Camps present a positive learning environment, which creates opportunities to acquire and retain knowledge. Gaining problem-solving skills helps kids value hard work.
6. Self-confidence
The best way for a child to achieve self-confidence is to have a positive environment and mentorship. Trainers and coaches who encourage good work ethic and self-improvement give off characteristics that will stick to kids like glue. They will become confident in their abilities and continue to strive for excellence — because practice makes perfect, right?
With a competitive athletic atmosphere, sports provide a healthy amount of social pressure to perform well. When a child has a specific role to play on a team, they become motivated to perform at their best. They work hard and are self-sufficient and self-disciplined. When kids achieve things, their confidence grows, and it helps to push them forward into succeeding even more.
Youth camps for athletes offer individual focus to help each child improve. With a positive mentor who provides instructions in a safe environment, children can apply their strengths and improve their weaknesses. Young athletes need to gain confidence through their accomplishments, not by only being told they will do great things.
7. Strategic Thinking
Compared to reading books and solving math problems, participating in a sports camp introduces different ways to implement strategic thinking. Your child will learn how to maneuver around obstacles and people, how to shoot the ball at the perfect angle, how to dribble with control and how to kick the ball at the exact force needed to pass it across the field or a short distance.
But physical strategies cannot be taught with a paper and pencil — instead, they’re taught through trial and error. Practicing tricky skills will encourage strategic thinking and give kids the foundation to pursue sports at higher levels in the future. Learning skills at a young age like how to drive to the basketball net, land a perfect routine or spike the volleyball at an angle can lead to awards, scholarships and recognition for higher-level achievements. In fact, for every 284,000 boys who play soccer, there are 3,306 full college scholarship opportunities available.
8. Teamwork Skills
Developing teamwork skills is vital to all areas of life — school, jobs, extracurricular activities, college and family. In regards to sports, players rely on each other to succeed. While success in some sports is individually based, most involve teammates working to achieve a common goal.
At a young age, children will learn how to encourage each other and how to communicate. Kids will make mistakes on the field and the court, but with positive teamwork, any sports team can grow as one. Understanding the value of collaboration and working with others enables children to feel like they are an integral part of the bigger picture — which they are!
Teamwork also encourages kids who are proficient at a sport to help others on his or her team. Let’s say a player is having trouble passing the soccer ball or hitting the baseball. A more experienced player has the opportunity to support players who are struggling or need extra guidance by providing tips. The teamwork presented will improve the team as a whole and implement an optimistic atmosphere.
Prepare for the Fall Sports Season
If your children are athletes, being stagnant for a whole summer can hinder their skills. Summer sports camps keep kids active and help them brush up on skills they already know and learn new techniques. They’ll return to the school year ready to take on a new sports season, thanks to what they learned in summer camp.
Even if your children aren’t athletes, they’ll bring the skills they learned during summer camp back to school in the fall. Teamwork, problem-solving skills, self-confidence, independence, and other benefits of summer camp will follow your kids into the classroom.
Summer camp operations under current COVID-19 guidelines can also help your kids prepare for any changes to sports activities at school. When schools reopen, in everything from elementary schools through college, things will run a bit differently. Give your kids the opportunity to adjust to some of the changes now at sports camps. They’ll feel more confident going into sports seasons in the fall and have a better understanding of the health and safety precautions to take.

Children’s recreation camp Dream
Summer is a time of games, entertainment, freedom in choosing activities, relieving stress accumulated over the year, replenishing expended forces, restoring health. This is the period of free communication of children.
Most parents are faced with the question of how to organize summer vacations for their children.Today, the most convenient, cheapest and for many the only way out is a summer school day camp for children, where the child does not break away from the family, is under the supervision of teachers, is fed on time, is busy with interesting things, in the evenings and on weekends the child is at home, in the family. Parents calmly send their children to the camp, because the teachers are familiar to them – they are employees of the school in which their children study.
And this summer, the school accepts children for the summer shift:
In June, a day camp will operate on the basis of our school. From June 1 to June 30, experienced primary school teachers will work with the children. This year it is planned to change “It’s fun to walk with us” – a sports direction. The day of the guys starts every day with physical exercises, then everyone goes to breakfast. After breakfast – work in the detachments, where games, quizzes are held, the guys do various crafts. Nobody is sitting around! Drawing contests, quizzes on traffic rules, sports games are held with the children. Neptune Day is held annually in the camp.
Every summer campers are the best friends of the city library. Library staff organize theme nights for children.
After a delicious dinner, you are supposed to … sleep. The camp provides for an afternoon nap. Particular attention is paid to the hygiene of the child. After the walk, the guys wash their feet and rest.
Have a rest – now you can eat !!! After an afternoon snack, the guys go home to run back to the camp tomorrow in a good mood!
Unfortunately, due to the large number of first grades and the renovation of the old building, admission to the camp is carried out only for students in grades 1 and 2.
For the daily rest of children, there are equipped: playrooms, sleeping rooms, places for carrying out hygiene procedures in compliance with all necessary sanitary standards. For the purpose of hardening, strengthening physical and spiritual health, the camp was provided with a gym.
In our camp “Dream” teachers and educators awaken in children the desire for their own various creative activities. The child himself creates the joy of play and communication. An interesting life arises from the inside, from outbursts, from the experience of the pleasure of working together, from the awareness of one’s creative potential.Camp “Dream” is children’s collective creativity, belief in the success of everyone and inspiring work of adults.
The activities of children and adolescents in the camp correspond to the main motto of the “Dream” center – “CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE – JOY IN THE PRESENT”.

Dreams of a wonderful holiday for children are realized in the children’s health camp “Dream”
Do you dream of a good rest for your children? But he has a real embodiment in sunny Berdyansk, on the shores of the gentle Azov Sea, in the children’s health camp “Dream”. It has created conditions for the recreation of children, which you can really only dream of.
“Dream” is an exceptionally exclusive camp, for it is the only one in the dance and sports direction. This means that it has created the appropriate infrastructure in the form of two magnificent dance classes, equipped according to all the rules, equipped with air conditioning. And the guys can show their skills on the big stage of the assembly hall.
DOL “Dream” – a territory where there is no place for sadness, indifference and spiritual emptiness. There are no national strife, political disagreements in it – love, understanding and care reign here.
Professional coaches are engaged with children in all kinds of active and strength sports. For this, there are football and volleyball courts, tennis tables, gymnastic equipment like trampolines, etc.
Leisure in the Dream Camp will always be memorable for its unusually festive atmosphere, which is created by the relationship of friendly partnership between adults and children, which ensures cooperation and co-creation. The joy of good luck is shared by everyone.
The development of creativity and aesthetic taste in children occurs through their participation in educational and entertainment programs. For example, the Dream Dance program is the highlight of the camp. And fairy tale contests, Miss, Mini-Miss and Mister “Dream”, children’s fashion shows, participation in performances and festivals, the holiday of Neptune – all this contributes to meaningful and meaningful rest.
The events are so organically woven into the everyday life of the camp that the shift flies by unnoticed by everyone. After all, nothing contributes to the friendship of children as spending time together with common interests. And they are held regularly in the form of various contests, quizzes, competitions. And an eventful day passes in the comfortable conditions of the camp premises or in the clean sea air, so useful for its richness of sea components and infused with healing steppe herbs.
Certified counselors, experienced educators, leaders of children’s creativity centers, professional sports coaches, experienced choreographers and creative animators are with the children for all 3 weeks.
After a pleasantly tiring pastime, the children develop an appetite that would please their parents, but which the kitchen staff can cope with quite well.Under the guidance of a nutritionist and medical supervision, the children are provided with five balanced meals a day. It contains only fresh products, an abundance of vegetables and fruits, which Berdyansk is rich in. The staff of the canteen – qualified chefs make sure that the summer in the camp is the most delicious and appetizing.

90,000 The Dream Sail has arrived at the port of good deeds. Metropolitan John visited the integration camp for children with disabilities *
Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Starooskolsk on Saturday, July 24, visited one of the shifts of the All-Russian integration and correctional camp for children with disabilities and their families “Dream Sail”.Traditionally, with his blessing and with his support, the camp opens its doors every year at the Rozhdestvenskoye diocesan courtyard in the Shebekinsky city district. By the way, Sail of Dreams is a project of the Ray of Light Foundation for the Disabled, chaired by Natalia Smolyanina .
This summer the wards of the foundation were looking forward to this summer with special impatience. The year 2020 made its own adjustments to the work, so the camp did not take place. The organizers decided to implement all ideas and ideas in 2021. This time 47 children came to replace them.
– Today is a wonderful holiday – the day when we remember the Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga. She is the grandmother of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir. Today is parental day, because all Christians were adopted by her. In this sense, we are with you as a single family. A family where each person is a unique person, and each of us within ourselves has the opportunity to communicate with God, rejoice, love. God grant that through such communication we will be spiritually enriched, because this is our joy and our hospital.Overcoming ourselves, our weaknesses, you and I learn patience, mercy and love. This shift shows that if we unite around our common concern, then a common cause appears. And through prayers, we are spiritually strengthened, they renew our spiritual and physical strength, give us the opportunity to receive that grace-filled power of help that is passed on to our children. I sincerely wish you abundant mercies from the Lord, joy. And you are not busy with joy, you are great! – Vladyka John addressed those present .
For the second shift this year, the Metropolitan came together with the benefactor Yulia Alekseeva, who helped with organizing meals for children and parents, as well as organizing leisure activities for children during their stay in the camp. Vladyka John noted the good deed with the gratitude of the head of the Belgorod Metropolitanate.
– Dear guys, parents, camp organizers! I am very glad to meet such kind and open people as you, to visit such a wonderful, cozy and beautiful place as the “Rozhdestvenskoe” courtyard! I am very grateful to you, Natalya Vladimirovna, for the invitation to visit the session of the Dream Sail camp! What you and your team are doing is truly miraculous.Dear Vladyka John! You always inspire good deeds, motivate to help children and be merciful! Thank you for that! Thanks to such projects, I want to find in myself even more strength and energy to do good deeds! Dear guys, dear parents! Thank you for your sincerity, openness and kindness! You are so sunny, smiling – it’s so great! I wish you a good rest, find true friends and remember the days spent in the camp for a long time! – said Yulia Alekseeva .
The excursion for the camp guests began with a visit to a talent fair, where the children presented handicrafts that they made together with their parents. At the exhibition it was possible to buy candies, toys, knitted baskets, brooches, costumes and not only them for special money – “palms” that children earned by participating in various competitions and master classes.
– Today our Dream Sail has arrived at the port of good deeds. You are great fellows, today all children and parents participated in various events: musical, intellectual, studied with Oleg Vladimirovich [Smolyanin] according to the program. At the flash mob, there was nowhere for the apple to fall! Everyone received their hands, and after dinner there was a charity fair. You have bought a lot of goods! We will continue our good tradition further, – said Natalya Smolyanina.
For the guests of the evening, the guys prepared two wonderful numbers: the play “Mitten” and the musical number “And Zakharka is great!”
– The charity fair reminded me of an apiary: you approach the hive, everything is buzzing there, a common cause is being accomplished. Everyone brings honey to the hive. Today there was a wonderful performance about a mitten, where everyone also gathered together: a bee, a chanterelle, and even a gray wolf, ”Vladyka John shared his impressions.
After that, parents and children split into two teams for the game “Guess the melody” and took turns guessing the songs. At the end of the evening, all the children received gifts from Vladyka John and Yulia Alekseeva.
Mom Elena came to the camp with her husband and three children: 11-year-old Albina, 10-year-old Nikita, who has an autism spectrum disorder, and 3-year-old Tikhon.
– Everything here is wonderful, we come here for the second time. Every day here is interesting in its own way, it brings parents and children closer together. My little child is not very sociable, but now he began to communicate more, to run. We will definitely come again, we are always looking forward to recording. There is an improvement in the middle son: we start talking.
Anya’s two namesake friends have been in the camp for several years. One of them came to the Dream Sail only for the second time, while the other was on almost all shifts.
– I really like the shift, I found some friends here. We had a salt dough master class, on which we sculpted different figures. We also play volleyball every day. We love to ride a slide and play catch-up, – said one of the girls.
The closing of the Dream Sail shift will take place on 27 July. Children and their parents will find a fire show, a sweet table, gifts and memories that this camp gave them – they will go home full of strength and emotions.
