Memphis Hoopers game Recap
June Issue:
|
AAU
State Championship
Recap
6-03-2008
Mid State Ballerz
(55)
@
YOMCA
(46)
The
Ballerz jumped on the favorite YOMCA in the first couple
of minutes of the contest. Commanding a double digit
lead and maintaining it for majority of the game, the
Ballerz fought off a late rally by the YOMCA in a
55-46
victory for the Ballerz and AAU State Championship
honors. YOMCA was without highly touted
Leslie McDonald
(Briarcrest) due to injury.
Coach
Schulman had the Ballerz well prepared and coached for
this tournament. Turmoil on the YOMCA bench between
coaches was a distraction for the players.
The Ballerz were patient on offense for good shots and
ran when the opportunity arose. YOMCA was out of sync
the first half and shot under 30% for the game. An 18-10
margin for the Ballerz at the end of the first quarter
that ballooned to 34-16 at the break.
Nathan
Parker
(Knoxville Bearden)
was very consistent with his game high 18 points as 9
points were scored each half accordingly.
YOMCA came out in the third quarter with a strong rally
led by
Johnny
Williams
(Briarcrest) monstrous dunk with his left hand coming
form the right side of the court. Showed great
versatility with that move and ignited YOMCA to get the
score under double digits.
The
Ballerz
Skylar
McBee
(Rutledge High) thwarted a Y rally with some long three
pointers and at the right time to nullify the surge and
end up with 14 points. The fourth quarter started off
with a dunk from
Farrakhon
Hall
(Memphis White Station) who ended with a team high 11
points for YOMCA respectively. .
C.J.
Crittenden
(Dyer County) anchored the back court with some decisive
ball handling against a stingy YOMCA defense.
Ian Clark
(Germantown) nailed some nice shots from long range.
Key Points of The Game:
The Ballerz patience on
offense and shooting over 58% for the game. The Ballerz
big men balanced the size difference from the YOMCA and
the Y’s poor shooting was a hamper.

Dick’s Sporting Goods opening West Town Mall interactive gym and store
Scenes from West Town Mall’s May 1 reopening

Angela M. Gosnell, Knoxville News Sentinel
Athletes and fitness enthusiasts will get a new, hands-on shopping experience when Dick’s Sporting Goods at West Town Mall opens this May.
It’s the second Dick’s store opening under a new brand called Dick’s House of Sport. This hybrid store will feature interactive areas for testing equipment and regular in-store fitness activities along with sporting goods.
At Dick’s House of Sport, customers can ascend a 40-foot rock climbing wall or practice a spiral on the 24,000-square-foot outdoor turf field.
Bonnaroo is back: Bonnaroo 2021 lineup includes Foo Fighters, Lizzo, Tyler The Creator as festival headliners
“Not only do we have the top gear you need to perform your best, but we have also created an interactive space where you can find inspiration and practice your skills,” the Dick’s House of Sport website says.
The first Dick’s House of Sport opened in March in Rochester, New York. The two stores will test new concepts and ideas for the more than 700 other Dick’s retail outlets nationwide.
The store will also include a running track, batting cage for baseball and softball with HitTrax technology, golf hitting bays with TrackMan simulators, putting green, indoor turf soccer cage and a service area for breaking in baseball gloves, stringing lacrosse sticks and repairing bikes.

Customers can attend field days, yoga classes, camps, birthday parties and clinics, according to a company press release.
Dick’s is hiring an array of sport-specific experts and fitness enthusiasts, from golf professionals to climbing experts. The company is hiring 40 full-time, 180 part-time and 20 temporary team members in Knoxville “who are passionate about sports, fitness, wellness, customer service and community,” the press release said.
As shoppers have shifted to outdoor exercise and at-home workouts during the pandemic, Dick’s has exceeded sales expectations. It took in $3.13 billion for the quarter ending Jan. 30.
“In an age when so many consumers have shifted to online shopping, offering a unique in-store experience could really work to Dick’s advantage,” according to The Motley Fool, a financial news and analysis partner to the USA TODAY Network.
Founded in 1948, Dick’s Sporting Goods is headquartered in Pittsburgh.
The store is being constructed where the Sears building once stood. West Town Mall began to demolish that building in early 2020.
The mall is preparing for several new tenants in 2021. Tesla is opening a service center in the former Sears Auto Center building. Gatlinburg-based Tex Mex restaurant Loco Burro, a Gatlinburg-based restaurant, is opening a restaurant with a rooftop bar next to Cheesecake Factory.

Selection of interiors in Memphis style – article in Likemyhome magazine
If you have heard about the Memphis style, then you have probably seen what a decorative and fun style it is.Interiors in this style look shocking and bright, but often do not seem suitable for real life. We think that this is not so and will try to show the direction of Memphis so that it becomes more friendly for you and you pay attention to it as a tool for decorating your home. At the same time, it is not necessary to be someone who appreciates the avant-garde and follows fashion. Memphis elements are suitable for anyone who loves color and wants to add joy to the interior and enliven the space.
We have prepared a selection of residential interiors where the use of elements in the spirit of Memphis has become the basis for a positive atmosphere. With this article, we want to support our Memphis collection, which is based on the style of the same name.
Unfortunately, for filming our collection, we did not find residential interiors in St. Petersburg that would reflect the rebellious spirit of the 80s. But this does not mean that there are no such people anywhere. And we managed to find something around the world.
In total, we have chosen 6 such houses, the owners of which are united by openness and boldness in the interior decor.
Showcase house by designer Clemens Sills
Clemens Sills moved to this house in Mexico City in 2016. Since then, the space has been filled with furniture, artwork, lighting and accessories in vibrant colors. Many of the pieces are from her own multidisciplinary design studio, Stromboli Associates, which manufactures everything from home furnishings to foam for sunglasses in partnership with local artisan workshops.
“My home really reproduces what is happening in my studio,” she says. “I like it when it’s all around me. Materials, textures, objects – everything is in sight. ”
Bright color has become a hallmark of Clemens’ work.
“If I do something, I want to be noticed.”
The space is also a showcase for the souvenirs presented to it. The gallery wall is filled with works by fellow artists and friends with whom Clemence collaborates.
“It’s a way for me to tell about them – who they are, what they do.”
Hanging from the ceiling is a papel picado (perforated paper), a traditional decoration for Mexican festivals. Remains of a friend’s wedding party that took place indoors before Clemens moved in. And the discarded LCD screen, taken from the street, became art by the bed thanks to the picturesque vision of a friend.
The wooden chair was the work of Clemens herself. Its ease of processing is due to the fact that the electricity was somehow cut off in the workshop. The designer took it as a challenge, limiting herself to hand tools.
The Clemens house is full of details. And the palette of colors is so extensive that thoughts about how all these colors are combined no longer come to mind. Someone will say that there is too much here. But as for me, this is an atmosphere rich in ideas and memories. Here, the presence of a person is immediately felt and it can be argued for sure that you will not be bored with the inhabitant of such an apartment. This is a living house, a triumph of color and a riot of forms – just as the Memphis style bequeathed to us.
House “au coup de coeur” of the florist Xavier Antoine
“Au coup de coeur” in French means buying something on a whim, simply because you love it too much to be without it. This house in northeastern France in Kalmar is owned by Xavier Antoine, a florist and owner of Les Garçons Modernes, an online vintage clothing store. It is full of items bought on a whim and reflects the owner’s shopping strategy.
“I have no plans. I save up for something large-scale, and what I can afford right away, I take it as soon as I see it, if it hits me right in the heart! ”
As a result of this approach, every surface in his house is overflowing with treasures, not to mention the fact that the apartment is small in size.
“I like it when all things are together. I’m not worried about my pieces of furniture looking good next to each other.I try to make an installation in which all objects resonate with each other and create an atmosphere of convenience out of this dissonance. ”
The time when Xavier was in art school and he was in his twenties was what caused him to collect collecting.
“In those days, I didn’t have too much money and little knowledge of design, so I started buying chairs and items that I found in thrift stores based only on my aesthetics and aesthetics that I learned about in art school. Those things, as it turned out, were mostly from the 30s and 40s. ”
Over time, Xavier found himself gravitating towards 80s design, and now these items dominate his apartment.
“I grew up in that era. The 80s is a decade of crazy patterns, vibrant colors and feather hairstyles. This is such a special style. The mere mention of “80s looks” evokes special visual effects. These creations were so powerful that they continue to inspire design today. ”
The cramped layout did not stop Xavier from throwing a lot of his finds into the kitchen. He began collecting 80s wall clocks on eBay that reminded him of his childhood and childhood TV shows like Saved By The Bell. At the time, he had no idea that it would turn out to be a design by Natalie du Pasquier and George Souden for Neos Lorenz.
White walls are the best base for the interior. And then it all depends on your character and mood.Bright details look incredible against white. White binds them together and prevents them from creating a visual conflict. So you can leave a white base like Xavier everywhere and fill the house with any daring details.
Playful and chic in the house of nail salon owner Ella Langston
Ella Langston commissioned designer
Olivia Stutz. Olivia has already used an unexpected combination of textures and colors in her previous projects with metallic details.Ella liked this and asked to use this technique in her future apartment. It seemed to her that the shine of the metal and the colored coatings are what echoes her work in the nail salon.
The living room has full-wall windows from ceiling to floor and therefore there was no way to somehow decorate the walls, but this problem of lack of surface for decor was solved by a huge colored carpet on the floor. Commissioned by New York artist Alex Proboy.
Sculptural and metal elements adorn the room, including a tubular steel armchair from local design studio Jumbo, as well as a geometric floor lamp and white structure between the sofas.
“Everything was used as a work of art. I like to introduce an emphasis on art in interior design, ”says Olivia.
When choosing furniture, Olivia drew inspiration directly from Ettore Sottsas, who founded the Memphis movement. She discovered some signature pieces, such as the pink Roly Poly chair from Faye Toogood and the Elemental glass coffee table, in a trial sale in town.
In this house, a riot of colors ends in the living room. The rest of the rooms are designed in calmer colors, but also contain elements of Memphis. A palette that is not saturated does not mean boring. Especially when here and there there are still details of attractive shades.
Metallic and geometric objects were used throughout the apartment, even in the children’s playroom, to tie everything together.
“I wanted to use this project as a way to highlight the work of all the amazing artisans we’ve used,” says Olivia.
Such an example of a house with a slightly muted palette and local use of accent spots is already to the liking of a much larger number of viewers. But here, if you look closely, there are very catchy details. From this we can conclude that the dosed use of Memphis does not interfere with the home environment, but only makes it more modern and expressive.
Versatile home of versatile model and actress Cara Delevingne
Kara cannot be called a couch potato, but even the young and restless needs their own place, and this place also needs to reflect character. Her London apartment was designed by Delevingne family friend Tom Bartlett, an architect, interior designer and founder of Waldo Works. All meetings were held by video link from different parts of the world, and couriers chased Kara with samples of finishes, fabrics and more.It helped that he knew Kara from childhood and was familiar with her character. She has a daring and childish disposition, but sometimes she also needs calmness and comfort.
Public areas look bright and perky, and relaxation areas are either completely “like adults” or are made in a delicate palette. By the way, in the living room we see the famous bookshelf of Carlton Ettore Sottsass. This shelf is one of his most recognizable works.
The neon “Fries” sign above the bar cart is one of the few things Kara brought with her.Childhood friends of Delevingne remember the model’s addiction to food from McDonald’s in her youth. And the sign “LOVE” Kara found in a New York store and this is a sign from an old film camera.
But what impressed us the most was the bathroom.
“Kara loved the idea of lying in the bathtub after returning from a trip and feeling a kind of romance and daydreaming,” says Bartlett.
An arched entrance to a cloudy landscape from British muralist Sarah Hocomb.
Kara’s house is also not full of colors, but here and there there are details that remind that this is the house of a young and cheerful girl. Neon signs, by the way, are great for Memphis interiors. This adds a kind of unrealistic atmosphere “like in the movies.”
Brooklyn brownstone by designer Ellen Van Dusen
If you are familiar with the Dusen Dusen brand and her fashion line of clothing and household items, then you will understand that character is not something that Ellen compromises with. This is a designer who is bored in the bedding market, debuting bedding with fun patterns, squiggles and fruit.
Designer
The building of her apartment in Brooklyn in 1899 and much Ellen left as it was: moldings for picture frames, plaster reliefs on the ceiling, original fireplaces and stained glass details on some windows. But the assignments of the rooms were reversed.
“I always knew the living room should be right here because the room is so big,” she explains, sitting at her dining table Ettore Sottsassa, which she found on a Craigslist message board (like our Avito).
“I also wanted to have a kitchen next to the living room, so that guests could immediately go there when they came.”
The kitchen quickly became the focal point of this home, featuring a bright yellow color scheme, a truly large island, patterned cabinets by Barry Wells and fun souvenirs from her design friends.
“I have a tendency to overdo it with color, so I had to actively persuade myself to leave the plywood in the kitchen,” explains Ellen.
Ellen collects items from the Memphis era, unusual furniture from friends, and colorful pieces of modern art. Her own creations, Craigslist finds and the work of local designer friends are scattered throughout. She bought a broken fireplace tile on the Internet and just laid it out in the form of a color drawing. And Ellen saw a giant tulip in an antique warehouse in the Hudson.
“I saw a tulip and said that I would not leave without it.It stretched from the very back of my car to the front seat. ”
“I gravitate towards bright colors,” she admits. “But I had to calm down. My rule of thumb: I never have a full rainbow. I never use all the colors of the spectrum. ”
“I feel like all these weird things in my house make it look like a cartoon,” she says. “And I love it.”
The bathroom tiles are not entirely chaotic. Ellen used her friends’ phone numbers, assigning odd and even numbers as black and white tiles. So the numbers of family members on the floor, childhood friends on one wall, and on the other everyone who worked on the house. It was the idea of the artist François Morellet.
And the drawings by the sink were done by her friend and artist Lorraine Stern. She drew all of Ellen’s favorite animals, as well as fruits and a rainbow.
Ellen’s house is a kind of world of kind surrealism. The setting is more like a playroom in a kindergarten than an apartment for an adult woman. But this is the trick. Moreover, Ellen loves all these cute childish little things. This environment allows you to stay young longer.
Neomemphis style compact studio
Finally, we left the smallest apartment, which for all that is located in Moscow. It is only 35 meters high and is much closer to our realities than those houses that were before.
Designer Svetlana Khabeeva managed to competently place dusty shades of terracotta, blue-green and ocher on a small square in the style of Neomemphis.
This apartment is a prime example of how the Memphis style is “viable” even in a small area. Every meter of this apartment is optimized as much as possible, which also shows us that Memphis can be practical in a residential environment.
So what conclusions can be drawn?
The dosage amount of Memphis is appropriate in any modern interior.Although, perhaps, he will find a place in the classic ones to slightly dilute the severity.
Even a little bit of Memphis creates a sense of fun in the house. So something bright and unusual caught my eye and immediately the mood rises, and the guests understand that the host is full of surprises.
Memphis is very suitable for free and open people who tend to create a holiday around them. But even if you prefer calmness, then a couple of details in the spirit of Memphis will spark a spark for you too.
If you, like us, liked this style, then we have a whole collection of Memphis, which will delight the eye and add life to your interior!

Folding garden table rectangular Memphis, steel, 76 x 183 x 74 cm
The table is strong and comfortable. Took three. Benches had to be taken from another store
Dignity
It’s okay
For this weight and size (folded), a surprisingly stable structure! Easy to install and remove by one person. It is a pity when buying in the store there were no complete benches or chairs.
When opened, the two halves of the table top do not lie in the same plane, forming a small “house”. The angle is small so it is not critical to use. Perhaps, over time, it will sink into a flat surface – therefore 5 stars!

Memphis – a style that plays into the interior: photos and examples
ten.10.2019 12:14
The content of the article:
Karina Baturova
For the past few years, it seemed like there were only three styles in the world of interior design: Scandinavian, Loft and Classic. Before the start of the new decade, the interiors required changes. Today, pure styles are going out of fashion and mixing with each other. Eclecticism, individualization of space and bold experiments are in trend. All this is about the memphis style.Let’s find out where it came from, how it looks and what it is “eaten” with in modern interiors.
Pop Art + Bob Dylan
Most of the interior styles are shaped by the era and national flavor. But not memphis. This style is not historical, but author’s. He was born in Milan, in the 80s of the last century with the light hand of the architect and designer Ettore Sottsass. Even the exact date of birth is known. On December 11, 1980, Sottsass and his friends listened to Bob Dylan’s song “Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis blues again”, which gave the name to the group “Memphis”.
Members of Memphis are postmodernists from the world of design, completely abandoning interior canons and the traditional understanding of good taste. Taking daring pop art as a basis, they created a style that is even more experimental, fearless and unexpected.
Already in 88, the Memphis group ended its existence, giving the world of design an eccentric interior style, which 30 years later returns to fashion.
Sometimes they come back: 7 trends from the past
What high-profile trends have come back into fashion over the past few years, and how have they changed? Spoiler alert: we remember most of them from the 70s….
Memphis style ingredients
The most recognizable “recipe” for Memphis: light walls, against which color spots bloom. Several active colors in the most daring combinations are necessarily present in the space. This function can be taken over by furniture and accessories, less often decoration. Primary colors (blue, red, yellow), candy neon shades or complex muted tones can dominate.
The ceilings in such an interior are usually white, minimalistic, without complex structures. On the floor, both neutral finishes and contrasting geometric prints can appear, for example, a tiled, checkerboard in the spirit of André Putman.
Memphis-style furniture is monochrome, streamlined with rounded lines. It is this kind of interior geometry that has been in trend for the past few seasons.
Free combination of textures is encouraged.Matte and glossy surfaces, leather and suede, glass, ceramics, metal, wood and cork can appear in the space. Expensive natural materials can coexist with budget synthetics and acrylics. There are no restrictions.
The interior must have a contrasting print, one or more. The most popular geometric ones are circles, triangles, stripes, chevron and polka dots. Animalistic, floral, oriental and other ornaments are also welcome here. The print, as a rule, does not conquer a lot of space and is introduced into the space as accessories: carpets, decorative pillows, posters and sculptures.Memphis is especially fond of sculptures. The more avant-garde the better. It can be not only figurines, but also functional decor: sculptural vases, lamps, book holders.
An art prefix can be added to each object in such a space.
Memphis plays not only with forms, but also with proportions. Grotesque decorative objects of monumental dimensions add theatricality to the space. Asymmetry is welcome, but not creative mess.In such an interior, each item has its own place.
Memphis and your interior
Fans of the memphis style see in the interior not so much a space for living as a blank canvas for a creator and a reason for entertainment. Such an interior should be treated with a grain of humor. Memphis is suitable for bold creative people who value freedom of expression and will be an interesting constructor for designers looking for their own style.
Contrasting, ironic, postmodern memphis is back in fashion today in the wake of the popularity of individualization of space.
Not everyone is ready to let this style into their home interior, but adding a “pinch” of memphis to the space is quite simple.

Netherlands footballer Memphis Depay joins Barcelona – Rossiyskaya Gazeta
While European teams are fighting for the title in the continental championship, the leading clubs are entering the transfer market. Some of them buy players participating in it right during Euro 2020.
As an example – Memphis Depay. The Netherlands leader finally made his dream come true and joined Barcelona. The contract was signed for two years, the footballer underwent a medical examination for the Catalans in the camp of the national team.
– Finally, everything is official. I move to Barcelona and am extremely excited about this. My dream has come true to play for the biggest club in the world with the best fans. I look forward to playing in front of the crowded stands, – said Memphis.
It’s no secret that Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman, who worked with Depay in the Netherlands national team, wanted to buy this player last summer. However, a year ago, the transfer did not take place, and now, when Memphis’s contract with French Lyon has expired, he moved to the camp of the blue garnet free of charge as a free agent.
– I wanted to invite Depay even earlier. There was a real chance in January, but something didn’t work out. I am very glad that at last all the issues have been settled and he will join us.
Note that at Euro Depay played both matches of the Netherlands in the group stage. Despite the goal against Austria, Memphis received criticism after the debut match in the tournament against Ukraine (3: 2).However, according to the head coach of the “orange” Frank De Boer, Depay will show himself at the decisive moment.
– You need to get used to the tournament. This also applies to unity, becoming a team. This also applies to the development of the game system. We are discussing what we can add, what turned out well, and what still needs to be worked on. Memphis can add in the course of the championship. He will play an important role in the upcoming matches when you really need it. I’m sure it will. He knows that he can play better, but give us time to get used to the tournament, – said De Boer.
Robin Gosens may become Depay’s new Barcelona team-mate. The defender of the German national team, who became the best player of the match with Portugal (4: 2) at the Euro, attracted the attention of the representatives of the Catalan club. According to foreign media reports, representatives of the “blue-garnet” have already contacted the agent of Gosens and the leadership of the Italian “Atalanta”.
Another question that worries Barcelona fans is whether the club will be able to agree on a contract extension with Lionel Messi. The Argentinean agreement expires at the end of June.Negotiations are underway, but so far no official announcement has been made.
– We have good prospects. I know the club is working hard to build a competitive team that is better than last year. We have always said that Messi should end his career at Barça. I hope this issue will be resolved soon, – said Koeman.
Meanwhile
Argentina won their first America’s Cup victory in 2021. In the match of the second round of the group stage, “albiselesta” beat one of their rivals in the battle for the title – Uruguay (1: 0).This meeting was presented by everyone as a confrontation between two friends – Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. It’s no secret that Messi was very disappointed with Suarez’s departure from Barcelona last summer. Actually, the sale of the Uruguayan was one of the reasons for Leo’s public speech criticizing the leadership of the “blue garnet”. Despite the tough stance of the Argentine, Luis was sold to Atlético and became the champion of Spain. However, Messi has his own challenges in America’s Cup. He intends to win the trophy with the national team for the first time in his career. In the first two matches, it’s hard to say how close Argentina is to a dream. But if we talk directly about the captain of “albiseleste”, then he is in order: in his debut match, Messi scored against Chile (1: 1), and with Uruguay was marked by an assist to Guido Rodriguez. In Group B, Argentina shares the top spot with Chile, which beat Bolivia 1-0 over the weekend. These teams have four points each. Next comes Paraguay with three points, the Uruguayans and Bolivians have not yet scored a single point.Previously, two major victories at the start of the tournament were won by the hosts of the competition, the Brazilians. “Yellow-greens” first defeated Venezuela (3: 0), and then scored four unanswered goals to Peru.
