It’s worth noting that some of these transactions, particularly the purchases, do not show mortgage data for co-op purchases. This could suggest either outright purchases or alternative financing arrangements not reflected in the available records.
From Legal Expertise to Community Impact: Leventhal’s Broader Interests
While the majority of information about Daniel Leventhal focuses on his professional achievements and real estate investments, there are hints of broader interests and potential community involvement. How might Leventhal’s expertise and resources be applied beyond his immediate professional sphere?
The article briefly mentions the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx, an area facing significant socio-economic challenges. While there’s no direct connection made to Leventhal, this reference raises interesting questions about potential areas for community engagement and impact.

Given Leventhal’s expertise in technology and law, and his apparent financial acumen as evidenced by his real estate investments, one might speculate on potential ways his skills could be applied to community development or educational initiatives in areas like Highbridge. How can professionals in specialized fields like law and technology bridge the gap between their areas of expertise and pressing social issues?
Potential areas of impact could include:
- Pro bono legal services for underserved communities
- Mentorship programs for aspiring lawyers or technologists from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Involvement in initiatives to improve technological literacy in low-income areas
- Advocacy for policies that address the digital divide
- Support for educational programs that combine legal and technological training
While there’s no specific information about Leventhal’s involvement in such initiatives, his unique blend of legal and technological expertise positions him as someone who could potentially make significant contributions in these areas.
The juxtaposition of Leventhal’s professional success with the challenges faced by communities like Highbridge raises important questions about the role of successful professionals in addressing societal issues. From Lacrosse to Tackling Food Insecurity in the Bronx
The Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx can feel isolated. No local banks or restaurants. The schools are located in the poorest congressional district of the U.S., with some of the highest obesity, hunger, and asthma rates in the country. Both schools are in an area called Highbridge, which has a per capita income of roughly $17,000 and a population in which only 14 percent of adults above the age of 25 have a college degree. These schools’ testing performances are also some of the lowest in the state. At the same time, Highbridge has a vibrant sense of community and is rich in diversity and culture. Located in the shadows of Yankees Stadium, it’s fueled with New York energy, grit, and perseverance. Life is not always easy in Highbridge so it fosters a sense of resilience, toughness, and tenacity to those who call it home. Because of this, I’ve seen many students demonstrate the potential to transcend their limitations.
I was born and raised just north of the city in Westchester county. I have loved lacrosse for as long as I can remember: I started bouncing a lacrosse ball around with my dad when I was five years old and was instantly captivated by the game. As I grew older, it became an increasingly integral part of my personal development. It taught me lessons both on and off the field about teamwork, passion, confidence, and friendship.
To build a stronger connection with my students, I tried to identify something we may have in common. The first thing that came to mind was sports. The school’s only organized sports team was boys basketball, which consisted of 12 players. Having once been a lacrosse player myself, I wanted to share the invaluable lessons the sport taught me. I knew that learning a new skill would foster the confidence to stretch themselves in other ways.
Shortly after starting Bronx Lacrosse in the spring of 2018, it was immediately evident that the program was positively impacting participants in the classroom just as much as it was on the field. Our students demonstrated an increase in school attendance, higher marks in classes, and better overall behavior. Our program demanded certain standards to be a part of the team, which subsequently raised our players’ standards for themselves. This is where the real impact lied, and it was immediately evident. Encouraged by these results, I expanded our program to other schools in the community. Last spring, both our boys and girls teams won the NYC middle school lacrosse championship, which only further galvanized our students and the program’s momentum.
I founded Bronx Lacrosse with the mission of improving educational and life opportunities through the sport of lacrosse. While lacrosse is in our name, our impact spans far beyond that. We support students by exposing them to different places, experiences, and kids outside of the borough. This is a big deal for students who have never left the Bronx and certainly don’t leave their borough regularly. Among other programs, we also provide tutoring and mentorship programs. Many participants now see college as a viable path for them for the first time.
We partnered with two middle schools in the neighborhood, servicing 120 students, with plans to extend into a local high school as well. Since our program’s inception, we have been committed to uplifting this community.
The COVID-19 crisis has disproportionately impacted the South Bronx and its families. There are more COVID-19 cases per capita in the Bronx than about any other New York borough. Yet, testing and other resources have been slow to get to the borough. Many participants and family members have had COVID or have even died from it.
The Bronx is also struggling because the majority of residents and families who work by the hour have been furloughed or laid off. Not only are they battling the impact of the disease itself, but the unintended consequences of shutting the economy down.

Bronx Lacrosse: A Break from the Norm
While basketball and baseball remain king in the South Bronx, a small but growing number of young athletes of color are trying their hand at “laxin,” a sport typically associated with fancy prep schools.
“Laxin” is slang for playing lacrosse, a sport relatively ignored in the “Boogie-Down” until a nonprofit group, Bronx Lacrosse, started luring young players with dedicated coaching, tutoring and opportunities to shine as athletes.
Youth from Mott Haven, Melrose, Longwood, Hunts Point and Port Morris are now congregating in the neighborhood of Highbridge at least four times a week to play a sport that was once associated with individuals from affluent backgrounds.

Bronx Lacrosse founder and coach, Dan Leventhal, said the idea originated when he was a Teach for America fellow, teaching math at Highbridge Green Middle School, where he observed higher rates of asthma, obesity and hunger among students.
“In lower income communities, there’s way less access to organized sports, enrichment activities, extracurricular activities,” Leventhal said. “And then in the South Bronx especially, there’s also health disparities as well.”
As a former player on the Tufts College lacrosse team, and a former program director for Israel Lacrosse, Leventhal decided the sport offered a promising way to address these disparities, while also giving students an opportunity to achieve educational and life success.
Leventhal began recruiting students from the Highbridge Green Middle School, as well as the Rafael Hernandez Dual Language Magnet School to form a team, even as he was completing his Master’s degree in education at Fordham University in the Bronx.

His strongest pitch was that colleges and universities were looking to diversify lacrosse, so it could provide an excellent pathway to higher education. “This is a sport that’s played by a majority of white people, and if you’re coming from an area of a diverse background, it can present an opportunity that basketball probably can’t, because there’s so many kids that play basketball,” he explained.
Bronx Lacrosse consists of 150 students/players. The demographics listed on the Bronx Lacrosse website show the make-up of the team’s players as 75 percent Latinx and 25 percent Black or African-American descent, with females making up 53 percent of the roster. Although the team is fully comprised of Bronxites from all over the county, the South Bronx is the most represented region of the borough.
As the young ladies of Bronx Lacrosse took to the field at 1055 Jerome Avenue, in Highbridge on a warm spring afternoon, their competitive spirit was on full display, and they approached the scrimmage as a real game. Second year player, Lizmary Rojas, is elated to be on board. Rojas’ fascination with the sport started when she first picked up a stick and caught several passes.
“The program is very special to me because this is a way, especially right now in the pandemic, where I can stay safe and be active,” the 13-year-old said. “I know many of us are stuck at home, and are probably bored, or like, trying to think, so I know that this is definitely something that keeps my mind off of all the bad things.”
Bronx Lacrosse players have experienced their fair share of achievements on and off the field. Last season, both the boys’ and girls’ middle school teams won the middle school championship.
Both teams play their home games at Randall’s Island, and Bronx Lacrosse competes against other schools in New York City, Westchester County and Connecticut. Hunter Middle School and The Anderson School are just a few of Bronx Lacrosse’s rivals.
The group has several funding streams to cover expenses incurred for uniforms, equipment, park permits, and coach salaries. The nonprofit receives support from private donors, as well as the City Department of Education and the Department of Youth and Community Development, through partnerships with WHEDCO [Women Housing Economic Development Corporation].
Rojas’s teammate, Ashley Zamora, 14, said playing on the team has helped her focus on the future and her dreams, and tutoring offered by the nonprofit has helped her raise her grades. “When it came to the sport, it helped me improve as a person and it helped me become a better team teammate,” she said. “I plan on becoming a leader for the younger lacrosse players, and I want to get into a good college to be a surgeon.”
Leventhal is proud of the strides that Bronx Lacrosse has made since he introduced the sport to the neighborhood five years ago. But, at 29, he said he has plenty of bigger ambitions for the future. “We’re looking to give kids an opportunity to achieve life success,” he said. “That’s what we’re trying to do.”

“Oh, I’m literally exhausted,” Julia said. – Not able to cope with it.
– This is how you feed her. No child can get that much protein, ”Mrs. Harkavi said.
– Mom, she gets it no more than others. This is such a character.
– Here, we decided to come to you, – said Harkavi. – And you seem to be going somewhere.
“Some business,” Leventhal said. – Send a telegram.
– Well, we’ll go to the telegraph office. Mary telegram? Are you demanding a return? – Harkavi smiled.
“It’s not funny, Daniel, when people love a friend,” his mother said. – What kind of jokes there can be. It is a real pleasure to see conjugal love, especially in our time when marriages are so fragile. Couples drop into the municipality, like me, say, in the shop behind the hinge. Two boards were fastened with a hinge – clap-clap-clap – and this is what they call marriage. Send your telegram, Asa, both wonderful and very pleasant.Don’t mind him.
– I was going to send a telegram to my brother, not Mary.
– Libby, come to me now, can you hear me! – Julia shouted beside herself, pulling the child by the handle. – No, I’ll just tie you with a string!
– A-ah, brother? Said Mrs. Harkavi.
Leventhal blushed for some unknown reason.
– Yes, I called Yulia about his son. About my nephew.
– Have you contacted the doctor? – asked Julia. – This is Dr. Denizar, mother.
– Oh, he is a wonderful doctor, Asa; we are classmates with his mother, I still remember him like that. You can completely trust him. He received an excellent education. He studied in Holland.
– In Austria, mom.
– Abroad, what’s the difference. His uncle was supportive. He then went to prison, that is, uncle, because of taxes, Denizar has nothing to do with it. So pheasants were sent to him directly to Sing Sing; partners, they say, were allowed into the camera, to play cards. And education in Europe is the best, you know. This is because they have such a terrible slum; and in clinics, please, the most difficult cases are at their service. And we have such a high standard of living, it harms the education of our doctors.
– Why? Who said? – Harkavi looked at his mother with interest.
– Everyone is talking. And in all the books on medicine that dad wore from the store, continuous cases from Europe – Fraulein I., and Fraulein K., and Mademoiselle such and such. The best medical education is abroad.
– What about your nephew? – asked Harkavi.
– He was admitted to the hospital today.
– Oh, so he is seriously ill? How sad, – said Julia.
– Very serious.
– But you can absolutely trust Dr. Denizar. An amazing young man – brilliant. I’ll talk to his mother tomorrow. He will be more attentive to the patient.
“I’m sure he will do everything he can without any instructions,” said Yulia. And as she walked, she pressed her daughter’s head to her thigh.
“Ties are irreplaceable,” Mrs. Harkavi said.- Do not forget. Whoever does not use them will be left behind, will lag behind the race. Connections are everything. Of course, the doctor will do what he can, there is decency and all that. But if I put in a word to his mother, he will treat the patient with special attention and he will do more than he can. Nobody wants to take everything too close to heart, everyone takes care of themselves. So you have to click on the connections.
– Okay, so you talk to Mrs. Denizar. Not harmful, said Harkavi.
– I’ll talk.
– Dan, – Leventhal, a little behind, held Harkavi, – do you remember this Alby?
– Albee? Who is this? What’s the last name?
– Albee is the last name. Kirby Alby. We saw him at the Willistons. So long. Blond.
– I will remember, perhaps, if I strain. I have a very good memory.
Came to the telegraph office, Leventhal at the yellow wooden counter composed a message to his brother, completely forgetting about the stiffness in store. Coming out, he pushed Harkavi aside.
– Dan, can I talk to you in private for a few minutes?
– Why, of course. What’s the matter, old man? Wait a second. Let’s get rid of the ladies.
Mrs. Harkavi, Julia and Libby were waiting at the corner.
“Ladies, excuse us,” he said, setting his cigarette into the mouthpiece with a satisfied grin, “Asa wants to talk to me about something.
– I’ll talk to Mrs Denizar tomorrow. Don’t worry, Mrs. Harkavi said.
Leventhal thanked, and he and Harkavi crossed over to the other side.
– What’s the matter, got into history? – asked Harkavi.“You know you can trust me. You can tell me everything. Trust me. One hundred percent. The fact that you trust me will never come back to you through a third person, it is, brother, as in confession. Spread it out.
– Yes, no secret. Nothing. – Studying the face of his friend, Leventhal hesitated, disappointed. Should I explain everything to Harkavi? He is kind, he is a sincere friend, only sometimes he allows pathos where it is not required at all. Already he was led on the wrong track, he suspected some story.Maybe he means intrigue, in the sense of a woman. “It’s Albee,” Leventhal said. “Albee, this is my headache. You remember him. He also scoffed when you sang at the Willistons’. You are with this girl. Well, you remember, of course you remember. Worked at Dills Weekly . ..
– Oh, this one. Type. – Harkavi, it seems, listened more seriously, although it is possible, just really Leventhal wanted to take to heart what so sharpens her. He described his first meeting with Albee in the park. When he told how Albee’s espionage had shocked him, Harkavi muttered, “There’s nowhere else to go, right? Not nice, right? What impudence.A little nice.
– You yourself could not forget, in my opinion, how he clung to you because of this song.
– Yes, yes, now I finally remember. So this is it? – He recoiled a little, threw back his head slightly, and by squinting his clear eyes, Leventhal realized how extremely important the combinations were running in this brain.
– Dan, do you know some facts that I don’t know?
– What do you mean – facts? It depends on how you look at it. May be. That is, I heard. But did it not appear again? We need to figure it out.
– What did you hear?
– First you tell me. Let’s see if there is a connection. Maybe there is no connection. Maybe it’s not worth a damn – it’s a solid linden tree and you just need to spit and grind.
He rested, and Leventhal, in a hurry, laid out to him everything that Alby said that he had done, but no matter how he was in a hurry, no matter how eager to fish out quickly what Harkavi knew, he endlessly interrupted himself, inserted poisonous comments, even jokes, by means of which he, in the depths of his soul, felt, literally appealed to Harkavi: confirm, well, confirm the absurdity, just the madness of such accusations.Harkavi, however, did not fall for these invocations. Was restrained. He used to say: “A little pleasant, a little pleasant,” but all this as a whole did not cheer Leventhal too much.
– He presents the case as if it was me who killed his wife, in general it is all to blame …
– Wife? Well, it’s he, let’s say, enough, – said Harkavi, – I would not listen to such nonsense.
– Do you think I’m listening? Am I crazy? Who will listen to this? You will become?
– No, no, I’m telling you, he had enough. Fantasy got naughty. The balls jumped over the rollers. – Harkavi twirled his firearm at his temple and sighed. – But the people said, yes, that they kicked him out, and then, as I heard, he could not find a job anywhere. Before that, he was turned off from several places.
– Because of drunkenness …
Harkavi shrugged his shoulders. His face wrinkled, he somehow turned him back from Leventhal.
– Possibly. He did not take root anywhere, I heard, and the situation was just awful when they took him to Dill.
– Who told you?
– I can’t remember right off the bat.
– You think the blacklist exists, right, Dan? But when you and I talked about Rediger, you yourself laughed at this idea of mine.
– Laughing? Well, yes, in general, I do not believe in all these matters.
– Okay, here’s proof. You see? There is a black list.
– I’m not sure. This type of yours is unstable, they found out about it. It just became known that you can’t rely on him.
Read “The Sacrifice” – Bellow Saul – Page 8
And the incident that Alby had in mind was this: Harkavi once, together with the girl whom he brought to the Willistons, sang spirituals and old ballads. It was late, everyone was quiet, a little tired. That evening Harkavi behaved more modestly than ever. He could not sing, but at least he did not cause laughter, did not ask for it. The girl sang badly either; stumbled over every word. But in general it was pleasant. And in the middle of the ballad this Alby got in; now let him say what he wants, he was drunk.
– Why are you singing such songs? You shouldn’t sing them.
– Why, I would like to know? – asked the girl.
– Oh, and you, by the way, too. Alby smiled his special, slanting smile.- Why are you singing them? You have to be born with this. You were not born with this, no, and there is nothing to take on other than your own business.
Then his wife gave a voice:
– Do not pay attention, you sing very nicely.
– Ah, well, no, – Alby threw contemptuously.
“Well, thanks, Mr. Alby,” Harkavi said. – It’s a wonderful song.
– Sing, sing further, Dan, – Phoebe Williston urged him on. And Leventhal said:
– Drink it to the end.
– Yes, yes, now. – And Harkavi started the ballad all over again.
– No, no and no! Alby climbed in again. “You don’t have to sing these old songs. This should be absorbed with mother’s milk.
The wife blushed and said:
– Kirby, why are you doing that.
– Oh, don’t worry, madam. Harkavi ducked his chin in, crossed his arms over his chest, and flashed his round eye.
“Sing, Dan,” Leventhal said.
– Sing a psalm. Sing, sing, do I mind. Sing a psalm of some kind. I will listen with pleasure. Well, let’s. No, really, – Alby did not calm down.
– I don’t know a single psalm.
– Well, any Jewish song. What really takes you away. Sing about mommy.
And with a drunkenly concentrated look, all leaning forward, with his elbows on his knees, as if prepared to listen. He burst with pleasure; he smiled at the girl, smiled at Harkavi; even Leventhal got an affectionate look. Albee’s wife was slowly trying to isolate herself from him. The Willistons were embarrassed. Alby was not just an acquaintance to them – a friend, Williston then tried to make excuses, tried to somehow explain this outrage.
This is, in fact, everything that happened. Leventhal was furious, of course, but not for long. I spat, I forgot. And Alby thought he was capable of nursing such a difficult revenge because of such nonsense? An idiot, then. And the scale of the insult is greatly exaggerated, and oh, tell me how subtly he knows how to pry. Or does he think he discovered something new that evening? Means, all the more an idiot. “Well, suppose I would have harbored a grudge, would I really behave like that? And what does he allow himself? What do you think of yourself? ”
The fact that he asked Alby to bring him to Rediger, in itself, shows what he put that episode into. Williston’s acquaintance had just returned from Arizona, Leventhal had to look for a new place. Williston wrote him an excellent letter of recommendation, it was more convenient to meddle with him somewhere. And all the same – several months passed until he was taken to Burke-Beard and Company, and during these months he got worn out, became again conflicted, difficult, offended, then for no reason at all he will be snapped at someone, then he will hit into familiarity. Rumors reached Williston, he summoned him, lectured him long and tediously. Leventhal pouted, hesitated, offered Williston to return the letter – stupidity, now it’s clear. But he thought Williston regretted having written him.
He thought of probing Alby about working for Dill himself. Williston approved of the idea, perhaps he pushed Albee to introduce him to Rediger. Or Alby himself wanted to make amends for his rudeness. Williston was cruel on this score, he wanted to explain everything. You need to know Alby when he’s sober: smart, worthy man. And drunkenness has a family background; New Anglican education; there were even priests in the family; he needs to relieve this pressure, but if he does, he will become a different person.Leventhal assented absent-mindedly – it happens, it happens; and he does not hold any particular grudge against him. “I will be very indebted to him if he organizes this meeting for me. It’s even funny – to get a job for such a pull. ”
That meeting at Dills Weekly was still a pain in the ass.
Rediger spent almost an hour in the hallway, then another five minutes in the office. I watched several tugs dragging a heavy liner along the river, stood with my back. And when he turned around, Leventhal immediately realized that there was nothing to shine for him; Rediger hadn’t opened his mouth yet, but he had already realized that he had dragged himself in vain. This Rediger was a short man, wide-faced and red, and a piercing redhead. Light brush mustache, drooping, powerful nose, widely forked at the end. He spoke quickly, energetically, categorically, in a hoarse bass. Leventhal immediately thought: “I, apparently, at the wrong time.” So then he could not figure out whether he got into a hot hand with Rediger, and therefore he attacked him, or Rediger generally treats those who do not want to take, who wasted his precious time in vain. That evening, reporting to Harkavi, Leventhal said: “He boiled like a cauldron.I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. ”
– Well? – said Rediger and put his fists on the table. As if suppressing the desire to immediately turn back to the window. Leventhal just opened his mouth, he cut him off abruptly: – No vacancies, no vacancies. Everything is jammed. Look elsewhere.
Leventhal mumbled:
– I thought you had a place. I didn’t know … Didn’t Mr. Alby tell you about me?
Meanwhile Rediger was looking at him. They were on the sixtieth floor of the Dill building. The sun lurked below, behind dull, black, dull spitz and skyscraper ledges.
– What experience? – Rediger grunted.
Leventhal said.
– No, no, leave that aside. What newspapers did you work for?
– None. – Leventhal was beginning to get annoyed.
And then Rediger blew up, suffered:
– What the devil are you taking away from me? Why did they come? Get out. Lord Jesus, stick up, take a person out of business, not having a damn thing for a soul!
– Sorry to disturb you. – Leventhal spoke stiffly, hiding his confusion.
– Our profession is news. If you don’t have the slightest experience in journalism, you have nothing to do here. What do you think we have here – training courses?
– In my opinion, I will master this kind of work. I read your magazine, and I think I can handle it. – He looked for words, stumbled, he hung his head.
– Ah, do you think? Seems to you?
– Yes … – Leventhal has already recovered a little. “I didn’t know my experience didn’t suit you. I have a letter from Mr. Williston here. He said he knew you.- Leventhal reached into his pocket.
But Rediger was already yelling:
– I don’t need any letter!
– But Mr. Williston said that he saw no reason to fear that I would suddenly not be able to cope with such a job …
– Who is asking him. I don’t care what he said.
– It seems to me that he is responsible for his words. I respect his opinion.
– I myself know my business. Leave your Williston alone. I myself can judge who I need. You don’t fit.
“Perhaps you know your business,” Leventhal said listlessly and evenly, looking forward.- I don’t argue here. But what is so special about your magazine? I read it, I have already said it. – He put a cigarette in his mouth, without asking, reached for the matches at Rediger’s on the table, broke off one, struck it, threw it into the ashtray. Angry as a stretched string, he contrived to portray cold equanimity. – Anyone who can connect two words will write to you like that. If you tried a person and said that he does not fit, then I would say that you know your business. This is a fiction, Mr. Rediger, about the newspaper experience.
Rediger yelled:
– Fiction? Yes? Yes?
Leventhal saw that he had managed to get through, and suddenly both were taken away, carried away, the air heated with anger, with a thirst to pry, sting, and no one wanted to give up.
“Very simple,” Leventhal threw casually. – You have your own gang. An outsider does not wipe his way. But it would be worthwhile, frankly, to think about the magazine and hire people because they know how to work. It would not hurt you.

14.00 Opening of the exhibition “To the Transfigurations – with gratitude” (State Memorial Museum A.V. Suvorov – Kirochnaya st., 43).
On August 19, at the State Memorial Museum of A.V. Suvorov will open the exhibition “Preobrazhensky – with gratitude” from the cycle “Around the Suvorov Museum”. It was this regiment at the beginning of the last century that donated a plot in the center of St. Petersburg, where the building of “the memory of the great commander” was erected to this day.
The Life Guards Preobrazhensky Regiment, created by Emperor Peter I and tempered in the battles of the Northern War, settled in the Foundry section of the new northern capital and stayed there for almost 200 years. This first regiment of the Russian Guard was associated with the fate of many prominent historical figures. At the exhibition, for the first time, it will be possible to see the original list of officers of the regiment of 1793, where Colonel Catherine II and Lieutenant Colonel A.V. Suvorov.
Most of the exhibits are paintings and graphics. Among them is the portrait of G.V. Rosen (unknown artist, 1802-1818), a cousin of Suvorov, under whose command the Preobrazhensky regiment distinguished itself in the battles at Borodino (1812) and at Kulm (1813).Here will also be presented medals “For the capture of Paris” and “In memory of the Patriotic War of 1812”, the cross “For the victory at Kulm” from the museum fund – the same was awarded to G.V. Rosen.
Of undoubted interest are two objects of stabbing polearms: the protazan (first quarter of the 18th century) and the esponton (late 18th – early 18th centuries). The protazans were introduced by Peter the Great to arm the infantry officers of the Russian army, including as a badge of distinction. In 1731, protazans were replaced by espontons. The rank of an officer was determined by the strictly regulated color and material of the brush that adorned the upper part of the shaft. Already in 1807, this type of ceremonial officer’s weapon was finally canceled and today it is a museum rarity.

lowerThe novel-wandering “The Announced” was written for twenty years (started in the early 70s and finished in the 90s). According to the author, “nothing has been invented in this book, except for the author.” This is a puzzle composed of all genres tried by the author in the three previous dimensions. The author acquaints the reader with the main soldiers of the Empire: the biologist-ethologist Dr. D., who offers to look at the crown of nature through the eyes of other living beings (“Birds, or New Information about Man”), and the artist-restorer Pavel Petrovich, who is looking for his point in the picture of the Creator ( “Man in a Landscape”). These two meet, finally, in the third part “Waiting for the Monkeys”, trying to combine the scientific picture of the world with the Divine under the high.

Here the author expands his concept of a small homeland (“Aptekarsky Island”) to the scale of St. Petersburg (Leningrad), and more broadly – to the entire Russian literature.Written in 1964, as the first “anti-textbook” on literature, for a long time “went on the lists” and was first published in the USA in 1978. It immediately became a cult book of the generation, translated into many languages of the world, foreign researchers called the author “Russian Joyce”.
The protagonist of the novel, Lev Odoevtsev, a hereditary philologist, heir to a glorious family, thinks of himself and those around him through the prism of Russian classics.
