Pratt Fitness and Recreation Center provides LIU Post students with a modern facility where they can exercise, play, compete, or work out. From high-action basketball games to leisurely laps in an eight-lane swimming pool, the Pratt Recreation Center is outfitted for a variety of recreational, intramural, and competitive activities and sports. The 77,000-square-foot facility contains a modern 3,000-seat gymnasium with three full-size basketball courts, as well as volleyball, racquetball, and badminton courts; an elevated Mondo-X indoor jogging track; an eight-lane competitive-size swimming pool; a fitness room that features free weights and state-of-the art exercise equipment, including treadmills, stationary bicycles, and stair climbers; a multipurpose room that hosts classes in aerobics, dance, and exercise; and locker rooms.
It also features a state-of-the-art Human Performance Lab and “smart classrooms” for use by the Health and Physical Education programs. The Pratt Recreation Center is located in our athletics complex, next to the football field and field house.

Fitness Center
The Pratt Recreation Center Strength and Fitness Room has 31 Cardio Machines, 27 Selectorized Strength Units, and 15 Free Weight Strength Pieces. The room offers many choices in cardio and strength training. The Pratt Recreation Center also sports an 8-lane, 25-yard pool that offers swim classes, American Red Cross certification courses in Lifeguard Training and Water Safety, lap swimming, and recreational use.

Employment Opportunities
The Department of Recreational Sports, located in the Pratt Recreation Center, is one of the largest student employers on campus.
The department is responsible for providing the finest programs, services, facilities, and equipment to enrich the university learning experience and to foster a lifetime appreciation of, and involvement in, wellness and recreational sports and activities. All Recreational Sports Department personnel are required to be trained in CPR and AED. For students that do not already possess these certifications, training will be provided by the department upon being hired.

Tilles Center for the Performing Arts
Tilles Center is Long Island’s premier concert hall, hosting more than 70 performances by world-renowned artists in music, theater and dance each season. Students can take advantage of special discounted tickets, only $15 for most performances and even free rush tickets for select events.

The Little Theatre
Located on Post Road across from the library, The Little Theatre is home to the Post Theatre Company, the nonprofit resident company of the Department of Theatre. The Company is an ensemble of actors, designers and managers that reflects the commitment of the program to theatre as a communicative language, to exploring the possibilities in the creation of new work, and to theatre as a vehicle for social understanding and change.

Hillwood Commons
Hillwood Commons is the student union and the hub for campus life. Hillwood features a cafeteria, Starbucks, Subway, Twisted Taco, the End Zone, the Gold Coast Cinema, Career Bar, Game Room, the Campus Concierge, and student organization meeting space.
The LIU Post Student Run Businesses; including, Browse, the Treat Shoppe, and the Student Body, are also housed within Hillwood.
The student union is also home to the offices of Campus Life, LIU Promise, and the Dean of Students.
Hillwood Commons is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. – midnight., and until 1 a.m. on the weekends.

B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library
The Post Library Association hosts numerous events and lectures that contribute to the scholarship and cultural life of the campus, as well as the popular Annual Book Sale each spring.
Hutchins Gallery
Located in the lower level of the Library, Hutchins Gallery is a magnificent exhibit hall which features the sculpture and painting of local artists, faculty, and students.
The Hutchins Gallery also hosts events and a dinner lecture series.
LIU Post is a national leader in student-powered entrepreneurship and engaged learning opportunities. In 2014, with the input, talent, and hard work of our Student-Run Business Committee, the campus community launched four on-campus businesses that employ students at all levels of the operation. LIU Post now has eight student-run businesses, plus the Browse store, which is student-staffed. These ventures are part of LIU’s dedication to fostering entrepreneurship in our community and commitment to empowering students through real-world experience.
Students are responsible for launching and managing daily operations of the store as well as marketing the business to students, faculty, staff, and other members of the LIU Post community. LIU Post is home to the Shark Shuttle. This shuttle service runs throughout the academic year as a free service to students. The Shark Shuttle takes students to the Hicksville Train Station, Broadway Mall, and even just around campus! Students, who wish to take advantage of this service, must present their ID card to driver. The Shark Shuttle is easy, convenient, and puts the Long Island/ NYC area at your fingertips!
On-campus loop
The On-Campus Loop runs continuously around the campus during the weekdays, stopping at designated LIU Post bus stops. The shuttle service is also equipped to provide transportation for community members with disabilities. Students with disabilities may also be picked up/discharged at any location upon request. All other riders will be picked up and dropped off at designated bus stops only.
Off-campus loop
To venture off campus to the supermarket, the mall, or the movies, LIU Post students can catch the off-campus loop. It runs seven days a week to local sites such as the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, and the Long Island Rail Road Hicksville train station. The shuttle picks students up on-campus at the Hillwood Commons Shuttle Stop.

LIU Post is serviced by the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), Long Island Bus N20. The bus stops on University Drive at two designated locations on the north side of Campus. (University Drive runs parallel with Northern Boulevard.

Consolidation of LIU Post and Brooklyn athletic teams catches students off guard
The consolidation of Long Island University’s Brooklyn and Post athletic departments has rankled some student-athletes who said they were caught off-guard by the school’s Oct. 3 announcement.
“They dropped a bomb on us,” said Liam Kunkel, a freshman basketball player from Glen Head. “Nobody saw this coming.”
The school’s decision to combine the two campuses into one Division I program puts the future of its Division II athletes in limbo as they consider what they say are undesirable options.
The school said it will honor all of its current scholarship athletes, including those who do not make 2019-20 rosters. LIU said it worked with the NCAA throughout the process and received waivers that will allow student-athletes to transfer to new schools.
Affected sports — those which are currently being played by both campuses — are baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s bowling, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field and women’s volleyball.
The choice for most of the Division II players comes down to transferring to a new school or to stop playing sports. While the athletes can try out for the Division I team, they risk losing their scholarship because of Division I scholarship limits. It also would mean that athletes at Post might have to travel to the Brooklyn campus for practices and games, though the school has said it will provide transportation.
“Everyone came here, they fell in love with the program, the campus, the academics, then all of a sudden, I feel like they’re saying they don’t appreciate what we do,” said Lauren Kloos, a sophomore volleyball player from Kings Park.

Kloos said her teammates share her disappointment with the school. On Oct. 5, in the first home sports event after the official announcement, members of the women’s volleyball team warmed up with white tape covering the “LIU” on the backs of their jerseys before a 3-0 win against Queens College. Referees asked players to remove the tape for the game, Kloos said.
Supporters demonstrated similarly, with representatives from the student body and other teams packing the gymnasium in their university apparel with “LIU” covered.
Jayna Rios, a freshman from Shirley on the softball team, said softball players will wear their gray jerseys that say “Pioneers” on the front during each game this season because, “We support the Post Pioneers, not Long Island University.”
Rios said she’ll likely transfer out of LIU after this season because the Brooklyn campus, where softball will be played, doesn’t offer physical education, her major. Kloos also said she is “90 precent sure” she will transfer.
A Change.org petition that raises awareness of the situation has more than 4,400 signatures, and an Instagram account called “not.my.liu” has more than 450 followers.
Athletic director Debbie DeJong responded to a request for comment with a statement that read, “We at Long Island University are dedicated to competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics.”
“When evaluating our unified rosters, we will aim to maximize the number of athletic opportunities available while carrying on our tradition of excellence,” DeJong’s statement continued.
Michael Soupios, a political philosophy professor and president of the faculty union, has been teaching at LIU Post for 40 years. He believes the reasons for the merger are more financial than for re-branding purposes.
“I think there’s a budgetary gap that they’re desperate to fill,” Soupios said.
The university has had difficulty recruiting students in recent years and has been reducing the number of staff, Soupios said. The merger may be a way to save money, by eliminating redundant staff and cutting program budgets.
“The move to Division I is not at all a budgetary issue,” LIU spokesperson Gordon Tepper said. “We are elevating our university.”
Soupios said,“Many of the Division II players are either not going to have a team at all, or they’re going to have to pack up and go to Brooklyn to play.”
Soupios said, “It’s unfair to the kids,” especially of those who have athletic scholarships. “They were offered an arrangement when they were first admitted. As far as I’m concerned, that’s a contract that should be binding.”
Soupios described seeing students crying after the announcement.
“The kids are really angry and very upset,” he said.
Vocal tenured faculty members have been critical of the administration under President Kimberly Cline, and have asked state education officials and accrediting agencies to take a look at budget decisions that they say are at odds with the college’s mission. Professors of both campuses last year wrote to the state Education Department to investigate a number of concerns including a lack of transparency on fundraising and accurate enrollment figures, as well as the suspension of academic programs.
Jada Butler, 21, of Reading, Pennsylvania, is a journalism major and co-editor-in-chief of the school paper, “The Pioneer.” She has been reporting on the fallout.
“For those who came to play Division II, it’s a life changer,” Butler said. “A lot of students are confused. They’re feeling a little bit underappreciated that they’re not being heard or that decisions are being made without consulting them.”

Responding to Controversy, American Apparel Revisits Code of Conduct | Blog post
When is it time to revisit your company’s code of conduct? The headline-grabbing ouster of a company founder after years of harassment allegations would be a pretty good signal that the time has arrived.
Last month, American Apparel fired founder and CEO Dov Charney after years of alleged misconduct came to a head. Charney, who often bragged of his in-house sexual exploits in media interviews and was sued for sexual harassment by former employees, was let go following a six-month suspension. The company’s Board of Directors accused him of both sexual harassment and the improper use of company funds.
Although Charney isn’t mentioned in American Apparel’s new Code of Conduct, his controversial tenure is likely the reason the newly released document, four times longer than the original, expands upon expectations for employee conduct and prohibitions on sexual harassment. Among the highlights:
“The company does not tolerate harassment, including abusive conduct, of, or directed towards, any of our employees, whether by another employee, supervisor, officer, director, or a third-party.”
“Any employee, officer or director found to have engaged in sexual harassment or any other kind of abusive behavior shall be subject to disciplinary action, which may include termination. No person who in good faith makes a report or claim under the code or company policy shall be retaliated against.”
“The company is committed to preventing sexual harassment in the workplace, avoiding conflicts of interest, and fostering a comfortable working environment for everyone in a company workplace. No management-level employee may make sexual advances, welcome or unwelcome, toward any subordinate, regardless of whether the subordinate reports to the management employee, either directly or indirectly. No employee who has a personal relationship or romantic relationship with another employee may be in a position with any perceived or actual influence over the other’s terms of employment.”
“All personal and/or romantic relationships between company personnel where one person may have perceived or actual influence over the other’s terms of employment must be disclosed by the participants to the Human Resources Department. Employees who fail to report a relationship, as required by this policy, will be subject to discipline.”
“Unwelcome advances between company personnel, even outside the workplace, are not professional behavior and may violate company policy. Company personnel should never engage in any public displays of affection in the workplace, which may make others uncomfortable. If any harassing conduct or unwelcome advances occur, the aggrieved employee should utilize the procedures for reporting sexual harassment.”
Charney, replaced by new CEO Paula Schneider, has denied all allegations and is attempting to buy back the clothing chain.

As Senior Director, Real Estate at The Children’s Place and The Disney Stores, Ed oversaw strategy development, site selection and lease negotiations in the New York Metro, Mid-Atlantic, New England, Southeast and Midwest regions of the US, as well as Puerto Rico.
Previously, in an earlier tenure with Vornado Realty Trust as Vice President, Director of Mall, Ed managed the leasing of six regional malls and their adjoining strip centers in New York and Washington, DC. Three or four students who took part in the show willingly showed the audience their musical denim jackets.Regular jackets, supplied by Levi Strauss, were sewn with thin circuit boards with electrically conductive filaments.
