Available in various colors to match team uniforms or personal style preferences, the Brine Triumph retails for around $80, positioning it as a mid-range option that delivers professional-level performance. Its popularity among collegiate and high school players speaks to its quality and effectiveness on the field.

Comparing the Brine Triumph to Other Popular Lacrosse Shafts
How does the Brine Triumph stack up against other well-known lacrosse attack shafts? While each player may have personal preferences, the Triumph holds its own in several key areas:
- Weight: The Triumph offers a lightweight feel comparable to higher-end carbon fiber shafts, but at a more accessible price point.
- Durability: Its alloy construction provides excellent longevity, often surpassing the lifespan of some composite shafts.
- Price: At $80, the Triumph represents a strong value proposition, delivering professional-grade performance without breaking the bank.
- Versatility: The shaft’s design makes it suitable for various playing styles and skill levels, from high school to college.
When compared to shafts like the StringKing Metal 3 or the ECD Carbon Pro, the Brine Triumph offers a compelling mix of performance and affordability that appeals to a wide range of players.
Optimizing Performance with the Brine Triumph Attack Shaft
To get the most out of your Brine Triumph shaft, consider the following tips:
- Pair it with a high-quality lacrosse head designed for attacking play
- Experiment with different stringing patterns to find the optimal pocket for your playing style
- Regularly clean and maintain the shaft to preserve its grip and appearance
- Practice stick skills and shooting drills to become familiar with the shaft’s weight and balance
By focusing on these aspects, players can maximize the benefits of the Brine Triumph and elevate their offensive game.
The Importance of Shaft Selection for Attackmen
Why is choosing the right shaft crucial for attackmen? The attack position in lacrosse demands a unique combination of skills, including quick dodges, precise passing, and accurate shooting. The right shaft can significantly impact an attacker’s performance in several ways:
- Improved ball control for better dodging and cradling
- Enhanced shot power and accuracy
- Quicker release on passes and shots
- Reduced fatigue during long games or practices
The Brine Triumph’s design specifically addresses these needs, making it an excellent choice for players looking to elevate their attacking game.
Customization Options for the Brine Triumph Shaft
One of the appealing aspects of the Brine Triumph is its customization potential. Players can personalize their shaft in several ways:
- Choosing from various color options to match team colors or personal preference
- Adding grip tape or customized wraps for enhanced feel and style
- Experimenting with different lacrosse heads to find the perfect combination
- Applying personal decals or engravings (where allowed by regulations)
This level of customization allows players to create a unique setup that not only performs well but also reflects their individual style on the field.
Maintenance and Care for Long-lasting Performance
To ensure your Brine Triumph shaft maintains its performance over time, follow these maintenance tips:
- Clean the shaft regularly with a damp cloth to remove dirt and sweat
- Inspect for any dents or damage after games and practices
- Store in a cool, dry place to prevent warping or corrosion
- Avoid leaving the shaft in extreme temperatures, such as a hot car
- Reapply grip tape or texture as needed to maintain optimal control
By following these simple steps, players can extend the life of their Brine Triumph shaft and ensure consistent performance throughout multiple seasons.
The Evolution of Lacrosse Attack Shafts
To fully appreciate the Brine Triumph, it’s helpful to understand the evolution of lacrosse attack shafts. Over the years, manufacturers have continually innovated to improve performance and durability:
- Early wooden shafts gave way to metal alloys for increased strength
- Composite materials were introduced to reduce weight while maintaining durability
- Advanced alloys and carbon fiber blends pushed the boundaries of performance
- Modern shafts like the Brine Triumph represent a balance of these technologies
This progression has led to shafts that offer an optimal combination of weight, strength, and feel, allowing players to perform at their best.
The Science Behind Shaft Design
What makes the Brine Triumph shaft effective from a scientific standpoint? Several factors contribute to its performance:
- Material composition: The alloy used in the Triumph provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio
- Shaft diameter: Optimized for grip strength and control
- Weight distribution: Balanced to improve shooting accuracy and passing precision
- Surface texture: Engineered to enhance grip without compromising quick hand adjustments
These design elements work together to create a shaft that feels like a natural extension of the player’s arms, allowing for intuitive and effective play.
Choosing the Right Shaft for Your Playing Style
While the Brine Triumph is an excellent all-around option, it’s important for players to consider their individual needs when selecting a shaft. Factors to consider include:
- Playing position (attack, midfield, defense)
- Personal strength and size
- Preferred playing style (finesse vs. power)
- Budget constraints
- League or team equipment regulations
By carefully evaluating these factors, players can determine if the Brine Triumph aligns with their specific requirements or if another option might be more suitable.
The Role of Equipment in Player Development
How does a quality shaft like the Brine Triumph contribute to player development? While skill and practice are paramount, having the right equipment can accelerate improvement in several ways:
- Confidence: Using professional-grade equipment can boost a player’s confidence on the field
- Consistency: A reliable shaft allows players to focus on skill development rather than equipment issues
- Feedback: High-quality shafts provide better tactile feedback, helping players refine their technique
- Adaptability: As players improve, a versatile shaft like the Triumph can adapt to their evolving playing style
Investing in a quality shaft like the Brine Triumph can thus play a significant role in a player’s long-term development and success in the sport.
The Impact of Shaft Choice on Team Dynamics
When considering the Brine Triumph or any other lacrosse shaft, it’s worth examining how equipment choices can affect team dynamics:
- Consistency in equipment can foster team unity and cohesion
- Shared experiences with popular shafts like the Triumph can facilitate peer learning and tips
- Standardized equipment can simplify coaching and skill development across the team
- Player confidence in their equipment can lead to more assertive and effective team play
While individual preferences should be respected, there can be benefits to aligning equipment choices within a team, especially with versatile options like the Brine Triumph.
Future Trends in Lacrosse Shaft Technology
As lacrosse equipment continues to evolve, what can players expect in future shaft designs? Some potential trends include:
- Integration of smart technologies for performance tracking
- Advanced materials offering even better strength-to-weight ratios
- Customizable flex points for personalized feel and performance
- Environmentally sustainable production methods and materials
- Improved shock absorption for reduced hand fatigue
While the Brine Triumph represents the current state of the art, keeping an eye on these trends can help players stay ahead of the curve in equipment selection.
Psychological Aspects of Equipment Selection
The choice of a lacrosse shaft like the Brine Triumph can have psychological impacts on a player’s performance. Consider the following aspects:
- Placebo effect: Belief in the quality of equipment can lead to improved performance
- Familiarity: Using a popular shaft can provide a sense of connection to the broader lacrosse community
- Ownership: Personal investment in quality equipment can motivate players to practice and improve
- Adaptability: Confidence in equipment versatility can encourage players to expand their skill set
Understanding these psychological factors can help players make equipment choices that not only perform well physically but also support their mental game.
Integrating the Brine Triumph into Training Routines
To fully leverage the benefits of the Brine Triumph shaft, players should consider how to incorporate it into their training routines:
- Wall ball exercises to develop feel and control with the new shaft
- Shooting drills to calibrate accuracy and power
- One-on-one dodging practice to exploit the shaft’s lightweight maneuverability
- Passing exercises to fine-tune quick release and precision
- Full-field scrimmages to experience game-like conditions with the shaft
By systematically integrating the Brine Triumph into various aspects of training, players can more quickly adapt to its characteristics and maximize its performance benefits.
The Economics of Lacrosse Equipment Investments
When considering the $80 price point of the Brine Triumph, it’s important to evaluate the economics of lacrosse equipment investments:
- Cost per season: Calculate how long the shaft is likely to last and divide the cost accordingly
- Performance benefits: Consider potential improvements in play that could result from using quality equipment
- Resale value: Quality shafts like the Triumph often retain value for resale or trade
- Durability: Factor in the reduced need for frequent replacements compared to cheaper alternatives
- Versatility: Consider the shaft’s suitability for multiple positions or playing styles, extending its usable life
By taking a long-term view of equipment investments, players and parents can better appreciate the value proposition offered by shafts like the Brine Triumph.

by Bryce Williamson
For at least the last 10 years, plant societies have been in
membership decline. There are many reasons for this. One of the
important reasons for this is reduced garden space in major urban areas. As an area becomes more crowded, lot sizes diminish or fade into nothing. It is not a hopeless
situation, however, for the avid gardener with a little bit of space. For the
iris grower, a small garden means it will be impossible to grow everything, and specializing is necessary. When specializing is done right, it is even possible to have a
hybridizing program.
Within a small garden in California’s Silicon Valley, Garry Knipe is specializing and doing it right. When I visited, one of the first things
I noticed was the usage of all space—at the front, back, and even the sides of the
house. It also helps, in his case, that one of the neighbors has allowed him to
infringe on their property.
From that small space and specializing in Pacific Coast Irises (PCIs), Mr. Knipe is producing stunning flowers. His seedlings regularly draw “ohs and ahs”at the local Clara B. Rees Iris Society show, winning many blue
ribbons and almost always the seeding cup.
Garry has three goals in his hybridizing: bloom time, color, and cold-hardiness. He is working on
early blooming varieties in many colors and the eye candy of whites, lavenders,
and violets that have an area that is really blue or turquoise in color
at the heart or center line of the flowers. To date Garry has only introduced
one iris, ‘Premonition of Spring’ from the early blooming line.
‘Premonition of Spring’ |
His higher priority is the enhancing the blue and turquoise
colors that originally came from Dr. Lee Lenz’s work with I. munzii. Unfortunately,
like I. munzii, the Lenz introductions were very difficult to grow and died off
quickly. Fortunately, their genetic merits were utilized by a few PCI breeders in the 1970’s. Garry is now actively selecting some of the stunning violets and lavenders with blues
and turquoise shadings for introduction. That latter work has its basis in plants
produced from the Lewis Lawyer lines as well as hybrids from Santa Cruz’s Lois Belardi and a seedling from Joe Ghio. The smaller space does slow him down and
he can only grow 100 to 400 new seedlings every year.
A third current hybridizing goal has been added to help
extend the climatic range of the Pacific Coast Iris by making crosses between
cold hardy species like I. tenax and
other known good growing hybrids. These seeds get distributed to members of the
Society for Pacific Coast Native Iris for testing in more difficult climates.
Another garden interest of Garry’s is breeding South African
flowers of the genus Moraea. In particular, he is very interested in those
species and hybrids that have very intense blue- or teal-colored eyes.
Since these relatively small plants can be grown tightly
spaced, his small yard can accommodate large numbers of seedlings. Garry
recognizes the help of Michael Mace in getting started. View some of Mike’s Moraeas at https://growingcoolplants.blogspot.com/2017/06/welcome.html. His
beautiful creations prove that it is possible to add to the gardening pleasure
of gardens large and small even if he does not have a lot of space.
How to Apply a Brine Triumph Helmet Wrap
Lacrosse helmet decal wraps are a unique product that can help your team stand out from the rest and make a big impression. They are also quite easy to apply to your helmet. Below is a transcription of our video “Team Fitz Graphics – Brine Triumph Helmet Decal Wrap Instructions”.
Lacrosse Helmet Decal Wrap Video Transcript
We are Team Fitz Graphics, and today we’re going to be showing you how to wrap a Brine Triumph Helmet. Basically what is going to happen is your template is going to come in a single sheet for the entire helmet. You are just going to want to start with the side decals.
The easiest way to do these is to start at the top, and to follow the visor, as you can see right here. Then you assure that the hole is cut out correctly, and then just follow down from the top of the helmet.
Now this is our 20 thick mil material, and it’s very easy to peel back once you get started. Just start pushing the air out, down the middle and all the way back. And this decal will actually follow the contour of the helmet. You can see a V on the helmet come down to this point. Start in the middle and just work your way out, making sure you get rid of all of the wrinkles, all the bubbles out of the middle. Now you have your first side.
I always like to start with the side decals, because the majority of the designs are based on those, so we want to get those in place first. Again, we’re going to start at the top of the helmet, and follow the contour of the visor all the way down, to get a starting point. Double check to make sure vent is in a clear spot. And just follow the top of the helmet down.
Start in the middle, give yourself a good pace and just work your way up. I’m always pushing out from the middle to make sure you get all the air bubbles out. And if you have an air bubble it’s easy enough to just peel it back up, and lay it back down. Again, this will come, so follow the contour of the helmet back to the fine point on the back end here.
Once you get the two side decals done you’re going to start on the back panel. Now normally I tell you to start in the middle, but for this one we’re actually going to start and work our way left to right, making sure you get around this first vent and line it up with this bottom jaw line here. And that’s just to get a starting point for you.
Now work your way across, making sure to get down into all the crevices, because you want to be sure that you get as much adhesive adhered to the helmet to make sure it lasts and stays for a long time. Just continue to work your way up, getting rid of all of the bubbles, and double check to make sure your design is lining up. Again, if you ever feel like you’re a little off just bring it back, readjust, and start in the middle and press your way out. Again, you’re going to run into this little ridge again, so make sure you get down into it. Just work and play with the material until you make sure you get all the little bubbles and ridges out of there.
Now that’s the back panel. What we’ll do is just go to the Mohawks. That’s pretty basic, here. Just start at the top and follow the lines of the helmet all the way down; and the same with this one. Then go with your vents. Now sometimes the vents can get a little tricky as to which side they go to. Just remember that the thicker end goes toward the back of the helmet. Align the holes, and lay it out flat.
On this one I like to line up this middle one here, and then work my way off of that. And make sure to press down and get in all the crevices. As I said before, the more adhesive that you have to the helmet, the better off your decal is going to be.
Finally, the last one, again the thicker end toward the back; line up the vent decal covers. Just press down. And the last piece to the helmet will be to personalize it so each player knows exactly which helmet is theirs. Square it up, it fits, and you have your helmet wrap.

TIFF 2021 Interview: Gil Moore Talks ‘Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine’
Courtesy of TIFF
Recently we had the chance to talk to drummer Gil Moore, who many in Toronto and Canada remember from the ’80s rock band Triumph. He talked about his roots in music, the rise and fall and rise again of Triumph, and the new documentary showing at TIFF called Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine.
Horror Geek Life: So tell me a little bit about growing up in Toronto, and where did the interest in music come from?
Gil Moore: My mother was an amateur pianist, she had six sisters and two of them were professional pianists, she got interested in music with piano. Peter Goddard (Canadian music journalist), he was my piano instructor, my Miss Jones who comes down the street and gives you lessons, but in my case it was Peter Goddard, who became a lifelong friend and still is. Peter said I was good, progressing very fast. I got from kindergarten to grade 3 in one year, but I was also obstinate and not really interested in piano. I ended up bailing on piano, just like I bailed on trumpet, and drums were more appealing for some reason or another.
HGL: How did you end up with such a passion for drumming?
GM: It’s a funny story, actually. At age 13, we’d go to my aunt’s cottage in Port Elgin. My parents made this a ritual as I was a little kid growing up, but by the time I was an early teenager, the Cedar Crescent Casino, which has subsequently burned down, before it burned down, I went with my friend Brad and The Comets were playing. We walked in, we were these little kids, everyone else was like 16 to 20, there was no liquor there so that wasn’t an issue, and I got as close as I could to the stage. When I heard a set of drums start rattling, and when I heard the music start playing…it was the most amazing thing I’d ever seen and heard, my eyes were the size of apple pies. So yeah, right there is really where the journey began.
HGL: Where did the singing come in?
GM: I hated singing (laughs). It started because one of my pre-Triumph bands, which were all miserable failures, as with Mike and Rik, we joked about each other’s failures, who’s failures were more epic. I think Mike was the most successful because he managed to get jobs, whereas Rik and I, we can’t even get a job. So, at this particular juncture in my career, my group had a job at Honey Harbour, in the Pavillion, for $125, and my lead singer quit. We were rehearsing and he got angry and stomped out on us, so we all looked at each other and said, what are we going to do now? There was no way we’re going to miss this gig, so I called a friend of mine, Joe DeNardo, who was playing in a band called The Magic Cycle and, unlike us, they were very commercial, vocal harmonies. Whereas, we were playing music that agents would tell us, don’t play that music, no one wants to hear it, they don’t care about your originals, what you guys need to do is buy pink suits, get some great 8×10’s and play cover music, that’s the key to success. We were like, no, no, no, we want to dress like hooligans and play loud, aggressive crap that’s going to offend people.
So, my buddy Joe came over and I told him we were desperate, we have this job and no singer, so he said, I’ll teach you guys to sing. We were doing “Sookie, Sookie, Sookie” and “Magic Carpet Ride,” and it was determined that because I had no tonal capabilities, I would take over those songs. He said, just do what I do, so we were playing the song and he was singing right beside me really loud, and I would emulate him, and that was my lesson. He then moved on to the other band members and gave them a similar lesson. It was kind of like a Spinal Tap/Monty Python outcome; we piled into the back of our van, went to the gig and we conquered. We got our $125, we paid our PA and truck rental, and came back victorious to Toronto and Mississauga.
HGL: When you, Mike Levine, and Rik Emmett finally got together in Triumph, did you know right away you guys had something special?
GM: We knew right away we were going to make it because we were all such tremendous failures (laughs). When Triumph started to play, something amazing happened. We played at Simcoe District High School in September of 1975, and with my old bands, Rik’s as well, when we used to play, people would go to the smoking area or lavatory. Mike’s bands not so much, they were more proficient, but financially compromised, let’s say. When we played together as Triumph, after two or three songs the audience swarmed us with mouths wide open, I’d never seen that unless someone was vomiting. We ended up naming that NGE, which stood for Net Gasp Effect. When we started, there was a tremendous amount of NGE right from the outset, and we levied that by taking any money we made and putting it right back into the production.
HGL: I saw Triumph play a couple of times, you guys were very high energy, a lot of fun. What is playing live like for you, especially at something like the US Festival.
GM: Well, we approached everything with a bit of humor, which I think was very important. Too many bands take it too seriously, not that we weren’t serious about our craft. We were intent on playing great and becoming great musicians, but we thought there was too much stress in life already, and the role of music was to be uplifting and make people feel positive and give them inspiration. We engaged in a lot of humor and in our movie, the Trailer Park Boys are right there and we were kind of like Bubbles and the boys as a band. It was our way of dealing with stress with what the road does to you, especially when you play something like the US Festival. Never turned to drugs and alcohol because of our sense of humor and the loyalty to our audience. We went on stage like a sports team, not high or drunk, like the Toronto Blue Jays or Toronto Raptors, we were going to kill it. We’ve had such tremendous fans over the years, it’s hard to express at this stage how grateful we are to those fans.
HGL: When Triumph split up, you guys were still playing to huge audiences and then suddenly it was over. Now, here we are with a documentary over 30 years later. What were those years in between like for you?
GM: The in-between has been different for all three of us. Speaking for myself, I know Rik wanted to do his own music and the only issue at the time was my father had passed away, and I’m an only child, so my motivation was I have to look after my mom. I can’t be Joe Rockstar in some hotel somewhere while my mom is by herself and grieving. I couldn’t do Triumph in 1988-89, so I went into a kind of cocoon. Rik was doing his own music thing and Mike was kind of in-between the two of us, it’s just how life works out. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, I love the Triumph career, but my mom subsequently had a stroke, which meant she needed even more care, so I wasn’t leaving Toronto. I love the studio, I was never cut out to be a guy on stage, anyway. Before Triumph started, I was into sound and lighting anyway, audio and visual stuff, and I’ve come full circle because I’m back into that now. Paul Dexter and I, we are working on something called MXR Vision, we’re going to have a Triumph tour that’s going to be done in technology that’s going to freak people out.
HGL: Let’s talk about the documentary. How did this film come to be made?
GM: I called my friend Ron Suter and NBC Universal and said Ron, surely you have some money you want to blow on something crazy (laughs). I told him I wanted to do a documentary and he asked me, why would that be cool? I told him I was a pack rat, had every Triumph recording that ever existed, all the audio and video, even the US Festival. I made a deal so we would retain all the video rights, which no other band did. So, then I called Triumph’s video director Don Allan at Revolver Films and said Don, you have to do the documentary with us. He was all over it, went to Peter Goddard, my old piano teacher, and wrote a treatment of it with Don. We got Revolver Films in the game because they are the kings of rock docs, and Revolver is a little bit different as a film company. He did a sort of flip off to Sam Dunn, who then pulled in Marc Ricciardelli as his co-director. We didn’t know this at the time, but Marc is the greatest editor of all time, I love the guy, and Sam is very, very clever. I didn’t realize this at the time. I disagreed with some of the things he was doing, but I had to learn to sit down and shut up because he’s very good at what he does.
When you have a documentary made about your band, or yourself, it feels very intrusive, and you don’t want to reveal some things. I realized, though, that the Triumph documentary would be a total failure if you didn’t get past the veneer and talk about the truth. Some of it was painful, I didn’t want to talk about when we broke up, but I’m glad I did. There were a lot of creative people involved that helped make this happen and, even if they weren’t fans of the band per say, I think they were fans of our journey and how we approached things, especially our sense of humor.
HGL: When you finally sat down and watched the finished film, what was your reaction?
GM: Shock and awe. I watched it with my wife and my kids, and it’s kind of hard to say, my first reaction was embarrassment because you look at your failures, and the times where you were over the tips of your skis. You write it off as being young punks, being over our heads, but we kind of had to be. Everyone was telling us when we started that we were going to be failures, we didn’t have a clue, so how do you combat that? Mike and I thought well, we know we’re not stupid, but it is kind of pervasive and keeps impacting us, so we kind of made it into this running joke by saying, what would Led Zeppelin do? It would kind of spur the conversation to lead us to the promised land, and it actually put us in good stead, we still use it to this day.
HGL: Once the filming of the documentary was over, did the three of you have a chance to sit down and talk about it?
GM: We all loved it. It was a cathartic experience for all three of us for different reasons. My family had to convince me to love it, the problem is I’m the perfectionist in the band, I never like anything. I don’t mean to be a nattering stream of negativity, but I prefer to call it overly perfectionistic, I just want to keep editing forever. It’s like how we did songs, Rik would say, Gil, the song is finished, and I’d say no, we need to do it over again (laughs). I drove Rik crazy and Mike would be in the middle saying, you guys just need to back off, I’ll handle it.
HGL: Boy, does that ever sound like some Spinal Tap moments right there!
GM: (laughs) We had some serious Spinal Tap moments in Triumph, let me tell you. We used to talk about Spinal Tap a lot, I love Spinal Tap.
HGL: What are you doing these days? You are still heavily involved in Metalworks Studios, correct?
GM: Man, I have so much shit going on, you don’t even want to know. Metalworks has blown up over the years, so now we have a private career college with all these amazing students who are learning this industry that I love so much. We have a full-on lighting and audio/visual company called Metalworks Production Group. Our school has a start up, an education program to provide free music education to youth worldwide, that’s called Sounds Unite, so we’re incubating that start up. Then there is the startup we have related to the holographic performances, MXR Vision. In my spare time, I hang out with my kids and my wife. I have no interest in retirement.
I kind of have the best of both worlds right now, honestly. The Triumph whirlwind keeps going, with things like the documentary, next week the Metal Hall of Fame, last year was Canada’s Walk of Fame, and we have a tribute album coming out, an unbelievable collection of talent is on that. While all that is going on, I have what we’ll call a little more serious career going, where we’re trying to move the needle in education, in audio/visual technology and our studios are still booming. We’ve been really blessed with the talent that has come through Metalworks, like The Weeknd and Drake. I’ve been fortunate and blessed, really, my family has stayed healthy and all this stuff just keeps going, and Triumph is really the gift that keeps on giving. In the end, I’m still that wide-eyed 13-year-old kid at heart.
I want to thank Gil for taking the time to talk with us.

90,000 watching the final episodes of the “Seventh Symphony”
The historical drama “The Seventh Symphony” is already approaching its denouement – the last two episodes are on air today. And according to the plot – a month before the concert in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic, where the orchestra under the direction of Karl Eliasberg is to perform Shostakovich’s most complex symphony in besieged Leningrad – in conditions when people fall into hungry faints during rehearsals.
The classical orchestra consists of 40 people, Shostakovich wrote a symphony for 80, and there are only 15 left of Eliasberg’s orchestra. They are looking for musicians in hospitals and at the front.
The film is based on a true story. The only remaining orchestra of the Radio Committee in the besieged city was tasked with performing the Seventh Leningrad Symphony – the score was delivered across the front line by plane, but many musicians died, many volunteered. Narrating how the conductor recreated his orchestra, director Alexander Kott shows us the eerie everyday life of the besieged city
Music helped them to survive both physically – the orchestra members relied on an enhanced ration, and morally – in a cold city, where life was barely glimmering, they had something to wake up for in the morning.
During the siege, the Radio House really became a home for orchestra musicians. Here they rehearsed, went on the air from here, and lived here. Many didn’t even have the strength to hold the tool, and they didn’t even have enough strength to get from home to work.
The creators of the drama “The Seventh Symphony” tried to deal with historical material as carefully as possible and, through the prism of the feat of the besieged city, tried to consider people – with their faith, weaknesses, deeds and misdeeds. A place in the script was found for both great love and intrigue.Today we will find out how the storylines will intertwine, and we will see a triumphant concert, which, in spite of everything, was given in besieged Leningrad.

90,000 Triumph emergency passenger liner towed to port
The cruise ship Triumph, which crashed on Sunday off the Yucatan Peninsula in southeastern Mexico, has been safely towed to the US port of Mobile, Alabama, a spokesman for the US Coast Guard said.In the near future, the port team will start mooring the liner, which was towed by four vessels.
At the port, passengers are greeted by their relatives, representatives of the city authorities and rescue services, as well as journalists from various American media. On board the liner there are 4 thousand 227 tourists and crew members, including two citizens of Russia, reminds ITAR-TASS.
Towing took longer than planned. Before entering the port, the liner had to overcome a narrow canal, which was complicated by a strong headwind.Initially, it was planned to deliver the ship to the Mexican port of Progreso, but taking into account the strength and direction of the wind in the Gulf of Mexico, experts decided that it would be easier to tow it to Mobile.
Let’s remind, a week ago Triumph left the port of Galveston (Texas, USA) and made a cruise in the Gulf of Mexico. On Sunday, a fire broke out in the ship’s engine compartment, as a result of which no one was injured, but the liner lost speed 250 kilometers north of the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Some media reported, citing relatives of passengers, that there was not enough food and water on board and that almost all the restrooms did not work. In addition, people were allegedly forced to sleep right on the deck, since the cabins were too stuffy due to the fact that the ventilation systems did not function. However, the shipowner company denies all these accusations.
This is not the first such incident with a Carnival cruise ship. So, in November 2010, the tourist ship Splendor, on board of which there were about 4,500 people, for three days drifted in the Pacific Ocean near the northern part of the California peninsula after a fire broke out on board. The accident cost the cruise organizer $ 40 million.

90,000 The Ministry of Defense will strengthen the defense of the Volga region and the Urals with Triumphs – URA.RU
Anti-aircraft missile systems “Triumph” to protect the Urals

By the end of the year, military units in the Urals and the Volga region will be rearmed with the latest S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM). It is planned that the rearmament will affect two regiments, in which, in addition to the “Triumphs”, “Pantsir-S” will be introduced.
Now the regiments in Yekaterinburg and Samara are equipped with outdated S-300PS, so it was decided to transfer the division to the most modern Russian air defense systems, the Izvestia newspaper writes. It is assumed that the entire Sverdlovsk region, Samara and the airbase in Engels, where the 22nd heavy bomber division with Tu-95MS missile carriers, as well as Tu-22M3 and Tu-160 are based, will fall under the protection of the newest complexes.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Defense announced that in 2020 the rearmament of units of the Central Military District (CVD) will take place. Later, during the Center-2019 exercise, one of the Ural regiments repulsed the impact of hypersonic ammunition (flying at a speed five times faster than sound) S-400.
As the former deputy commander-in-chief of the Air Force for the unified air defense system of the CIS countries Aytech Bizhev noted, foreigners have always had an increased interest in the Urals and the Volga region, since the most important enterprises of heavy metallurgy, nuclear and mining industries are concentrated here. According to him, now one S-400 division is capable of replacing three or four Soviet-era regiments that guarded these regions.
The S-400 has a maximum reach of an anti-aircraft guided missile up to 400 km.At this distance, it will be able to hit early warning aircraft and bombers. The air defense missile system can also intercept ballistic missiles and reflect the impact of ammunition flying at speeds up to 4.8 km / s.

Talisman named … “UP”, or Triumph at the World Cup. South Ural panorama.
Who would have thought that the publication in our newspaper on November 10, 2009 “France was scared of the flu.But Italy – no! ” can become a kind of talisman for Chelyabinsk citizens
Who would have thought that the publication in our newspaper on November 10, 2009 “France was scared of the flu. But Italy – no! ” can become a kind of talisman for Chelyabinsk residents. Their final destination was the small town of Lignano Sabbiadoro, located forty minutes from Venice. Our four athletes and two coaches were to take part in the kickboxing world championship.
Honored coach of Russia Farigat Kasymov was the last to leave his native Chelyabinsk. But five of his fellow countrymen left for the Moscow region, where the national team had already gathered for a two-week training camp, two days earlier. He considered the reason for the delay to be serious: he had to wait for the release of this particular issue of the South Ural Panorama.
And being an excellent psychologist, I clearly imagined how much she would be needed there: after all, it was written about them in it! In a word, not just a newspaper, but an original talisman.
Then the envoys from other regions, reading, said:
– Yes, with such parting words, like it or not, you will definitely win the title of world champion …
And they will recognize ours!
The day before the opening of the championship, Chelyabinsk residents moved along the embankment of a cozy Italian town. It’s not a resort time, however, the number of visitors to the town has increased dramatically. Posters on curbstones and banners on banners call for this. The city is already harnessed to the rhythm of a world-class sporting event. And who do you think not only locals but also newcomers are staring at? Yes to our Seryoga Bogdan!
Moreover, they approach him as if he were their brother or godfather, shake hands in a completely familiar way. You might think that he is walking not near Venice, but along our Kirovka, where every second person knows who the invincible Bogdan is.That’s right: after all, in seven years he has not yet lost a single battle! For a sport of this highest level, he is a phenomenon.
Look, the line for autographs has already lined up for the two-time world champion and twice the winner of the World Cup. Coach Farigat Kasymov either seriously or jokingly warns:
– Sergei, overstrain your hand. More useful in the ring.
Oh yes, our Lerochka Iskhakova! Our first gold medal
The first opponent is Rebecca Dillon from Ireland. And only one eighth of the championship. Valeria defeated her in a playing style with a score of 2: 1.
One fourth of the final. Indira Omarova from Kazakhstan. The attitude of coach Ruslan Ishmakov is simple: to move continuously, constantly disturbing her.
Something like guerrilla injections. A rival started up. She rushes to the attack – and Lera meets her with a hard counter blow. The judges perfectly understood this and gave the score 3: 0 in favor of the Chelyabinka.
Semifinal. Turkish woman Seda Duigu Aigun definitely confused taekwondo with kickboxing every now and then. There, warm hugs are in the order of things. Seda often either kneaded the air or tried to clinch, trying to hang on to her opponent. The judges were so tired of this that with great pleasure they awarded Valeria the maximum number of points – 3: 0.
Finally the finale. Tonia Sorlee from Norway. Ruslan Rinatovich gave instructions to rely solely on long-range combat techniques. Lera’s advantage immediately became clear. It seemed that success was close, and then there was a misunderstanding.
This is how Lera herself explained this incident:
– According to the rules, at least six kicks must be delivered during a round. This is recorded by special counters. I looked at him – it seems that the limit has been selected. With peripheral vision, I catch the signs of my coach: they say, act more with your feet. What happened?
And here it came to consciousness: in the heat of the battle I looked at someone else’s counter. Hastily it is necessary to get the norm. This haste allowed Tonia to close the lead. Fortunately, she didn’t have enough time for more …
The rest was already like a fog.You understand why. Won the title of world champion! Moreover, for the first time!
Beginner, don’t put your finger in your mouth Our second gold medal
Ilnaz Saifullin, who competed in the weight category up to 54 kilograms, is twenty years old. Two-time champion of Russia. He was looking forward to the result of the draw with undisguised impatience … That was lucky: he would have to box in the quarters with the representative of Kazakhstan Timur Kenzaluev. No, no, not a punching bag, the point here is different: the Kazakh school is a copy of the Soviet one.And here Ilnaz will not need to open any Americas.
He was not even embarrassed by the fact that his opponent was noticeably taller than him. But it is known in which stance he prefers to fight – in the left. Speedy. So after all, Ilnaz is involved in the same thing. The final decision of the judges is 3: 0.
Semifinal. Turk Kurt Ridvan is uncomfortable as a rival because of his excessive temperament. Such a sanguine person can throw out any trick. This means that it is necessary to cool it as quickly as possible. He managed to do this in the second round when he knocked Kurt down.As a result – 3: 0. And the Chelyabinsk resident is already a World Championship finalist! Came to Emil Karimov from Azerbaijan.
Again a typical representative of the Soviet school. In the third round, a series of blows followed from Ilnaz, and even kissed the opponent’s head. And he swam, swam … So another world champion was born from Chelyabinsk.
Champion for all time! Our third gold medal
If you remember that Sergei Bogdan has not lost a single battle over the past seven years, then you involuntarily come to the conclusion that this subtitle with an exclamation mark seems to have been specially created for him, and in advance for many years to come …
Quarter.Outwardly, the Bulgarian Delyan Slavov is anywhere: he is physically strong, and he holds the punches well. He is careful about his body, giving preference to a dull defense. Only all this did not save Delyan from a couple of roundhouse kicks in the abdomen. Such “gifts” from Seryoga are very painful. 3: 0. Nobody expected any other result.
It is no coincidence that many languages have been spoken for a long time:
– This crazy Russian needs to immediately hang the gold medal around his neck, but the rest should be played in the usual way.
Semifinal. David Nagode from Slovenia. After a combination with a blow to the liver area, the Slovene swam so that his coaches hastily threw away the white towel.
Final. Horvat Bojen Miskovich boxing in a left-sided stance. The manner of fighting is inconvenient. And Seryoga, still not cold from the fight with the Slovenian, decided to repeat what happened the day before. During the break, Farigat Fatkulovich had to calm down his most famous student.
Calmed down, it would seem.I changed the stand – also on the left-side. He treated his counterpart with a leg a couple of times. The distance has decreased. What was required to prove: the Croat fell under a crushing blow from the left side. And the rival began to fall like a cut down sheaf. Knockout …

Natalya Malkova crunches with paintings by Giuseppe Arcimboldo
Before us is a still life, the ideal place for which is in the “Book of Delicious and Healthy Food”.These are not just gifts of nature, this is a real triumph of fertility. Pumpkins, eggplants, onions, grapes, apples, ears, pomegranates, flirtatious cherries, pea pods, parsnips, cabbage, plums, pistachios, pears, olives, melons – there is so much of everything that one asks not only for the table, but also for the encyclopedia.
Now let’s step back from the picture. Now everything will be almost like in the fairy tale about Cinderella: the pumpkin turns into a torso, the nose – into a pear, ears – into bristles. Apples – cheeks, peas – eyebrows, grapes – hair, cabbage leaves – armor. And yet this is not Cinderella. There until twelve a carriage, and after twelve a pumpkin. And we have a pear and a nose; both pumpkin and neck; and crimson cheeks and ripe apples – all at the same time. Two in one: both a portrait and a still life at once.
But that’s not all, because in one canvas there are actually not two, but three. This is not just a portrait of a conventional character. “Vertumnus” – we read in the signature under the picture (the Romans called this god of the changing times of God, only the change for some reason always turned out from summer to autumn, no one saw anything in verses or statues in winter Vertumnus). But Vertumn Vertumnom, and people who understand immediately realized who really is here, with such crimson cheeks and pod-Brezhnev eyebrows. This is neither more nor less the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from the Habsburg dynasty, His Majesty Rudolph II. Although in fairness it must be said that at the moment when he was put together like a jigsaw puzzle of pumpkins and olives, he had not yet matured to the entire Roman Empire and held the modest post of King of Bohemia.
This same Rudolph, and before that his predecessor Maximilian, also, of course, from the Habsburgs, served Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Moreover, one cannot even say that he was a court painter. Rather, he was a court composer of all sorts of inventions, of an intellectual, of course, sense. He drew (and sometimes invented) the coats of arms of the ducal families, composed and staged divertissements, and designed the carousel with his own hand. To the amusement of the king, he invented what musicians call the colorimetric method of recording, that is, the transmission of notes through sound spots.
This invention – music through color – is closest to what Archimboldo became famous for, not only at the court of the Prague Habsburgs, but also in the centuries. It was he who not only found his theme (many found it) and did not just develop an original handwriting (which great one he did not develop). Arcimboldo was lucky to create a genre in which no one else could and cannot work without looking back at him. As this genre is called, we already know: still life-portrait.
Let’s clarify the time coordinates. This is the 16th century, and its very zenith (Archimboldo was born in 1527, and most importantly, he did it at the Habsburg court in 1560-1570). The revival is on the decline, and here it is very significant that the native of Milan Archimboldo, in search of work, moved to the server and became famous thanks to the patrons of the Germans (Prague, in which he lived, was then a German city).
Renaissance is a perspective, a clearly fixed point of view (both of the one who paints the picture and the one who looks at it), and from this very point the ideal landscape or portrait opens up to the viewer. What is Arcimboldo doing? First of all, it breaks with perspective. His paintings are written in such a way that they simply oblige the viewer to change their point of view: first, come close, close to savor every curl on the tails of tomatoes, every grape as shiny as parquet, and then move away for the sake of the whole, which is obtained from all these tomatoes and grapes.
Now about Archimboldo’s repertoire of topics. This repertoire is small. Most of the seasons: several “Winters” from old snags and dried fruits, half a dozen “Springs”, of course, from petals. Plus the crown “Autumn” and “Summer” – there are not only the most of them, but they are also the most inventive. Then comes the elements, and the most famous here, of course, “Water”, where sea creatures, hugging and intertwining in their nasty orgasm, form the profile of a water deity.
People from the environment of Maximilian and Rudolph, the artist wrote for fun (court librarian from books, lawyer from minutes), but the main ideological opponent of his Habsburgs – quite seriously. This is John Calvin, the leader of the Reformation, one of the main figures of the growing Protestantism. Here it is – stuffed with papers, with a monk’s skufia on his head, dodgy like a fish (chin made from a fish), tough like a gnawed chicken leg (look for yourself), a convinced opponent of theater, amusements, abundant feasts, in a word, everything from which a person wants smile. Estimate what Arcimboldo is a diplomat. He writes Calvin in such a way that the importance of the pose (turn in ¾, as in ceremonial Renaissance portraits) seems to preclude insult. And at the same time, what is this, if not an intelligible answer of the Prague court, with its merry-go-rounds, intrigues, interest in mysticism, to the compulsion of the Calvinist preaching?
By the way, Maximilian and Rudolph were interested not only in carousels and alchemy. They also had the Kunstkammer, almost the best in Europe at that time. Everything is as it should be: alcoholized freaks, a dismembered woman, exotic animals in a cut. In this world, they did not really think about where the border between the miracle and the monster was, and they certainly did not bother with the question of how the dead differ from the living.Giuseppe Arcimboldo created another ode to the Kunstkamera for his kings, in paints. And I got to the point with this incredible bodily abundance, with all its teeming, blooming, multiplying nature before our eyes.
If it seems to you that all this is very fun, then you are not a person of the 16th century. Because they, of course, were not at all as funny as we would like to think of them. And even those who loved to laugh, despite Calvin, were not funny. And this is not funny, this horror of life in which everything was shaken, and a person is no longer the measure of all things, as in the naive Renaissance, and the meaning escapes, and surrealism is not far off, this is the feeling Giuseppe Arcimboldo tried to express. So if you want to laugh at the sight of “Vertumnus” or “Water” – read the lesson again, it is possible that you missed something.
