How does Live Feed work?
The Live Feed feature on your Gallery pages allows you to display the pictures taken at your event on the big screen for guests to enjoy and is a great way to increase engagement with the booth!
The Live Feed feature automatically resizes and arranges images based on the size of your screen or display. Regardless of whether the screen is in a vertical or horizontal position, widescreen or otherwise—Live Feed gets rid of all the guesswork. When you’re ready to get started, enter the fullscreen mode to hide your URL bar for the slideshow.
Accessing and sharing Live Feed
You can access a Live Feed link from your gallery settings as well as from the gallery page itself when you are signed in.
Link sharing
The Live Feed panel in your gallery settings includes a direct link to the event’s Live Feed. Simply click the copy button to copy your feed’s unique URL, and send it to your colleague or client for use during the event.
This link will preserve your advertisements if applicable but will not maintain custom feed layouts, transitions, and other settings.
Sharing settings
If you need to maintain specific Live Feed settings outside of your advertisements, start by playing the feed for the gallery.
Use the settings icon in the top right corner to adjust the Live Feed settings as necessary. You will notice the URL is updated with each change. Once you are happy with the settings, copy the entire URL (it may be long depending on your customizations!) and share as needed.
Projecting Live Feed
The Live Feed can be run from any browser that supports JavaScript, so there is a lot of flexibility to display your pictures. We do not recommend projecting your feed from a mobile device, as they often won’t support the full screen mode.

Layout formats
Auto layout automatically adjusts to the optimal number of rows and columns for your screen size.
Manual layout can be used instead. After disabling auto layout, you can choose how many rows and columns to display.
Layout settings
Background color allows you to adjust the feed’s background. Use a color picker to select any color, or the thumbnails to select one of the colors from your gallery settings.
Ads
Advertisement options will display a full-screen slide periodically during your feed.
Use ads to highlight your brand or sponsor, shout out a special guest at the event, and more.
The ad options are based on your HALO plan:
Special Event includes a Simple Booth branded slide that will play every two cycles for six seconds.
Lite does not include a Simple Booth slide and does support custom ads (in other words, ad slides are not part of Live Feed on Lite).
Standard includes one ad for each feed.
Pro gives you access to unlimited ads for each of your Live Feeds.
Supported files
Live Feed ads are very flexible and we support a number of different file types! You can use a JPEG, PNG, GIF, or MP4 file. The recommended resolution is 1920×1080 pixels, and the file size should be no larger than 7 MB.
Ad duration
Decide how long and how frequently ads will display during your Live Feed. Ad duration options are only available on the Standard and Pro plans.
Default ad duration: this tool customizes how long your ad will be displayed on screen. The default duration will not apply if a video or GIF are selected.
If you are using mixed media, the default duration will apply to JPEGs, PNGs, and GIFs but not MP4s.
When videos are in use, the ad will appear long enough for the file to play back, and then transition to your next ad or back to your feed depending on your settings.
Cycles between ad sets: customize how frequently your ad will play. You can choose to display an ad after each cycle or to show it more infrequently.
Ads per cycle: determine whether all of your ads will play in succession each time advertisements appear on the screen or if they will play periodically one at a time.
Live Feed tips & tricks
Live Feed uses a lot of resources and depending on your customizations, it might test the limitations of the device you are projecting from.
If your device is less powerful, keep these tips in mind.
Mixed media (i.e., a combination of GIFs, stills, etc.) is not recommended for use with Live Feed.
Avoid the cascade refresh mode when using the Rebound layout. Rebound cycling in such quick succession can be difficult to load on certain devices.
Using a smaller layout grid and increasing the delay between photos can help things load more smoothly. This is particularly helpful with motion-based layouts like Rebound, and in circumstances where your internet connection is weak.
If you’re experiencing a lag in Chrome, try enabling hardware acceleration for your browser. This can be found in Chrome settings under Advanced > System.

Facebook reveals news feed experiment to control emotions | Facebook
It already knows whether you are single or dating, the first school you went to and whether you like or loathe Justin Bieber. But now Facebook, the world’s biggest social networking site, is facing a storm of protest after it revealed it had discovered how to make users feel happier or sadder with a few computer key strokes.
It has published details of a vast experiment in which it manipulated information posted on 689,000 users’ home pages and found it could make people feel more positive or negative through a process of “emotional contagion”.
In a study with academics from Cornell and the University of California, Facebook filtered users’ news feeds – the flow of comments, videos, pictures and web links posted by other people in their social network. One test reduced users’ exposure to their friends’ “positive emotional content”, resulting in fewer positive posts of their own. Another test reduced exposure to “negative emotional content” and the opposite happened.
The study concluded: “Emotions expressed by friends, via online social networks, influence our own moods, constituting, to our knowledge, the first experimental evidence for massive-scale emotional contagion via social networks.”
Lawyers, internet activists and politicians said this weekend that the mass experiment in emotional manipulation was “scandalous”, “spooky” and “disturbing”.
On Sunday evening, a senior British MP called for a parliamentary investigation into how Facebook and other social networks manipulated emotional and psychological responses of users by editing information supplied to them.
Jim Sheridan, a member of the Commons media select committee, said the experiment was intrusive. “This is extraordinarily powerful stuff and if there is not already legislation on this, then there should be to protect people,” he said. “They are manipulating material from people’s personal lives and I am worried about the ability of Facebook and others to manipulate people’s thoughts in politics or other areas. If people are being thought-controlled in this kind of way there needs to be protection and they at least need to know about it.”
A Facebook spokeswoman said the research, published this month in the journal of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in the US, was carried out “to improve our services and to make the content people see on Facebook as relevant and engaging as possible”.
She said: “A big part of this is understanding how people respond to different types of content, whether it’s positive or negative in tone, news from friends, or information from pages they follow.”
But other commentators voiced fears that the process could be used for political purposes in the runup to elections or to encourage people to stay on the site by feeding them happy thoughts and so boosting advertising revenues.
In a series of Twitter posts, Clay Johnson, the co-founder of Blue State Digital, the firm that built and managed Barack Obama’s online campaign for the presidency in 2008, said: “The Facebook ‘transmission of anger’ experiment is terrifying.”
He asked: “Could the CIA incite revolution in Sudan by pressuring Facebook to promote discontent? Should that be legal? Could Mark Zuckerberg swing an election by promoting Upworthy [a website aggregating viral content] posts two weeks beforehand? Should that be legal?”
It was claimed that Facebook may have breached ethical and legal guidelines by not informing its users they were being manipulated in the experiment, which was carried out in 2012.
The study said altering the news feeds was “consistent with Facebook’s data use policy, to which all users agree prior to creating an account on Facebook, constituting informed consent for this research”.
But Susan Fiske, the Princeton academic who edited the study, said she was concerned. “People are supposed to be told they are going to be participants in research and then agree to it and have the option not to agree to it without penalty.”
James Grimmelmann, professor of law at Maryland University, said Facebook had failed to gain “informed consent” as defined by the US federal policy for the protection of human subjects, which demands explanation of the purposes of the research and the expected duration of the subject’s participation, a description of any reasonably foreseeable risks and a statement that participation is voluntary. “This study is a scandal because it brought Facebook’s troubling practices into a realm – academia – where we still have standards of treating people with dignity and serving the common good,” he said on his blog.
It is not new for internet firms to use algorithms to select content to show to users and Jacob Silverman, author of Terms of Service: Social Media, Surveillance, and the Price of Constant Connection, told Wire magazine on Sunday the internet was already “a vast collection of market research studies; we’re the subjects”.
“What’s disturbing about how Facebook went about this, though, is that they essentially manipulated the sentiments of hundreds of thousands of users without asking permission,” he said. “Facebook cares most about two things: engagement and advertising. If Facebook, say, decides that filtering out negative posts helps keep people happy and clicking, there’s little reason to think that they won’t do just that. As long as the platform remains such an important gatekeeper – and their algorithms utterly opaque – we should be wary about the amount of power and trust we delegate to it.”
Robert Blackie, director of digital at Ogilvy One marketing agency, said the way internet companies filtered information they showed users was fundamental to their business models, which made them reluctant to be open about it.
“To guarantee continued public acceptance they will have to discuss this more openly in the future,” he said. “There will have to be either independent reviewers of what they do or government regulation. If they don’t get the value exchange right then people will be reluctant to use their services, which is potentially a big business problem.”

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, retired Toronto police service detective Norm Booth spent every lunch and dinner feeding his 73-year-old wife.

He says being with Maureen, who suffers from early-onset Alzheimer’s and is in Guelph’s Homewood Health Centre, helped reduce her stress, depression and anxiety.
But since COVID hit last year, he says he’s been granted only limited visits with strict protocols — and the idea of feeding her is strictly a non-starter.
When we spoke Monday, Booth was beside himself because after Maureen was sent three times to Guelph General Hospital last month — due to declines in her BP and oxygen — he learned she’d dropped 10 pounds.
“Homewood was telling me she won’t eat,” he said.
Homewood Health Centre is owned by Schlegel Health Care.
Booth says while his wife was in hospital, he was permitted to feed her all her meals and drinks — following “strict protocols” and dressed in PPE and gloves.

Booth said he used plastic cutlery, which helped her eat better than with larger metal cutlery.
But when he visited her in Homewood, he noted that some of the less-experienced PSWs were trying to feed her using a large tablespoon full of food, which Maureen couldn’t handle.
He added that it takes an hour to get her to finish but he said several of the PSWs only spend so many minutes before essentially giving up.
“They will not listen to me that she needs time to eat,” he said.
“She’s going to deteriorate,” he added, noting she hasn’t been outside in the past year for a “breath of fresh air.”
He asked if “on compassionate grounds” he could be at the home on the three days he visits at both lunch and dinner in order to feed her himself. He says he’s now fully vaccinated.

But in a May 19 letter from Sharon Deally-Grzybowski, director of clinical operations, he was told that in the context of COVID-19 and the “increasing prevalence of variants of concern” the local public health department and Homewood’s infection control department, have determined the current protocols and they will remain in place “until further notice.”
That meant he’d have to adhere to scheduled visits and not be able to feed her.
The letter writer advised Booth that if these infection control protocols “continue to be difficult” his wife can be sent home.
She added that they are exploring options of “alternate care environments” that may better suit his desire to engage with Maureen outside of their “current infection control policies and protocols.”

Booth said that told him he’d better do it “their way or the highway.
“They don’t care … it’s a shame,” he claimed.
Natasha Lemieux, Homewood Health Centre’s VP of Patient Services & Clinical Services, told the Toronto Sun on Tuesday Homewood has a “number of COVID-related precautions in place” and limitations on numbers of visitors to keep safe distances.
She said not all patients are vaccinated because some have chosen not to get the vaccine and there are continual admissions and discharges of people who have not yet received it in the community.

She said the residents in the unit where Booth’s wife is located are “particularly vulnerable” and often can’t understand physical distancing and infection control protocols or are unable to tolerate wearing a mask for any length of time.

“We have to make sure we have the appropriate amount of space available so loved ones can see their family members and do so in a space that allows better opportunities for folks to stay away from one another,” Lemieux said.
She says Booth can’t feed his wife to “ensure good infection control.” She added that they are very well-staffed on the unit to provide “good quality care,” which includes feeding.

“It has been a challenge … people are exhausted and have pandemic fatigue,” she said, noting that they have not a single COVID-related death over the course of the pandemic.
“We are all waiting with bated breath for restrictions to be eased up.”

Obituary – Carlson F. Booth
Carlson F. “Jack” Booth, 95, a retired Harrisonburg businessman, died Jan. 27, 2016, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.
He was born June 3, 1920, on his grandfather’s farm near Fincastle, to the late Dr. Henry Clinton “Doc” Booth and Junia Myrtle Bohon Booth.
He was a resident of Bridgewater Retirement Community the last few years.
His father, a veterinarian, set up practice in Harrisonburg, and Mr. Booth attended Harrisonburg High School. After the family moved to Warrenton, he graduated from high school there and played on the undefeated football, basketball and baseball teams of 1939-40. Mr. Booth was quarterback of the 1939 Warrenton High School football team and one of the legendary “Four Horsemen” that won the state championship. He received a football scholarship to the University of Virginia.
Mr. Booth participated in football, basketball and track his freshman year, but after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he left college and volunteered for the Army. He was a transportation non-commissioned officer with the 27th Evacuation Hospital Unit, serving four years in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany during World War II.
After the war, Mr. Booth returned to the University of Virginia, receiving a bachelor’s degree from the McIntire School of Commerce in 1948. He was an avid and faithful supporter of U.Va. teams for the rest of his life. In 1950, he married Barbara Sanders, also from Warrenton.
Following college, Mr. Booth and three partners organized Kelly Feeds in Timberville. The business was later sold, and in 1961, Mr. Booth joined Rockingham Milling Co. as manager of the feed division. He later became general manager, president and chairman of the board.
During Mr. Booth’s tenure, Rockingham Milling expanded its feed, hardware and plumbing supply operations, built new facilities and became RMC Inc. In February 1996, he retired as chairman of the board of RMC Inc. after 35 years with the feed, hardware, and plumbing supply company.
Mr. Booth was active in local, state and national poultry and feed organizations. He had been president of the Rockingham County Poultry Advisory Committee, Virginia Broiler Producers Association, Virginia State Feed Association and Virginia Poultry Federation. He also had represented Virginia on the National Turkey Federation and Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association.
Mr. Booth was also very active in the Harrisonburg community. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he had been president of the Brotherhood Bible Class and secretary of the official board. He was also assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 40, vice president of the Harrisonburg Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, vice chairman of Blue Ridge Community College Board, chairman of the board of Bridgewater Retirement Community and a director of Crestar Bank’s local board. In addition, Mr. Booth was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Harrisonburg Elks Lodge, Rotary Club and VFW. He was Rotary District Hands-on Chairman for a three-year period of “Reach Out To Haiti.” The district’s mission, located in St. Marc, Haiti, provided much needed services of food, clothing, schooling, medical care and shelters. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and family genealogy.
