Factors to Consider When Choosing a Golf Grip for Your Driver
When selecting the best golf grip for your driver, several factors should be taken into account:
- Grip size: Ensure the grip fits your hand size comfortably
- Material: Consider rubber, cord, or hybrid options based on your preferences
- Texture: Determine whether you prefer a smooth or more textured surface
- Weather resistance: Choose a grip that performs well in your typical playing conditions
- Durability: Look for grips that maintain their performance over time
- Personal comfort: Select a grip that feels natural and comfortable in your hands
How often should you replace your golf grips? As a general rule, it’s recommended to replace your grips every 40 rounds or once a year, whichever comes first. However, this can vary depending on how frequently you play and the conditions in which you typically golf.
The Impact of Grip Choice on Your Golf Game
Choosing the right grip for your driver can have a significant impact on various aspects of your golf game:
- Improved control and accuracy
- Enhanced feel and feedback
- Increased confidence in your swing
- Better performance in various weather conditions
- Potential reduction in grip-related injuries or discomfort
Can changing your grip really make a noticeable difference in your game? Many golfers report significant improvements in their driving performance after switching to a grip that better suits their needs. The right grip can help reduce tension in your hands and arms, promote a more consistent swing, and ultimately lead to better shot outcomes.
Customizing Your Golf Grip Experience
While the grips discussed in this article represent some of the best options available, it’s important to remember that golf is a highly personal sport. What works best for one player may not be ideal for another. Consider these customization options to fine-tune your grip experience:
- Grip size adjustments (adding or removing tape layers)
- Experimenting with different textures and materials
- Trying grips with alignment aids or reminders
- Combining different grip types on various clubs in your bag
How can you determine the best grip for your individual needs? Many golf shops and pro shops offer grip fitting services, allowing you to try different options and receive expert advice. Additionally, some manufacturers offer trial programs or money-back guarantees, enabling you to test grips on the course before committing to a full set.
Maintaining Your Golf Grips for Optimal Performance
To ensure your golf grips continue to perform at their best, proper maintenance is essential. Follow these tips to extend the life and effectiveness of your grips:
- Clean your grips regularly with mild soap and water
- Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight when storing clubs
- Use a grip-cleaning tool or brush to remove dirt and debris
- Inspect your grips periodically for signs of wear or damage
- Consider using grip-enhancing products in wet conditions
How can you tell when it’s time to replace your grips? Look for signs such as visible wear, smoothness or hardness in previously tacky areas, or a noticeable decrease in traction during your swing. If you find yourself gripping the club tighter to maintain control, it may be time for new grips.
The Future of Golf Grip Technology
As golf equipment continues to evolve, grip technology is also advancing. What can we expect to see in the future of golf grips?
- Smart grips with integrated sensors for swing analysis
- Advanced materials for improved durability and performance
- Customizable grips that can be adjusted on-the-fly

This could lead to improved performance, better consistency, and a more enjoyable golfing experience overall.

Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid Calibrate Grip
This is Lamkin’s premium grip and is aimed at those who like a smoother, tackier feel. There’s a lot behind this; the Calibrate Technology has a subtle reminder grip to get your top hand in the right place to help deliver more solid shots and this comes with an infused cord while the Smooth Tack material in the lower hand is softer to encourage more feel. JumboMax JMX UltraLite Grip
The JumboMax premise is that they have designed grips to fit your hands better to improve your ball striking by eliminating the tension. They use something called Finger-Palm technology so you don’t feel the need to squeeze. And they have a grip to fit anyone and not just their big name, Bryson DeChambeau.
In 2019 the US Open champ got rid of 75g from his JumboMax grip and this proved to be a prototype of this, the UltraLite. The substantial taper profile is designed to keep the face square longer through impact and the larger profile means that you will grip it more evenly and feel more of the weight in the clubhead.
Golf Pride MCC Plus4 Grip
A lot of the great things in life are common sense and this is one of them. A larger lower hand reduces tension and generates more power so the Plus4 has simulated four additional wraps of tape on the lower hand to encourage a lighter grip pressure and more crunch. If you were to cast your mind back to the last time you flipped your hands at it and then pictured the shot with a more solid lower hand then you can see how this grip came about.

The New Decade MultiCompound MCC Plus4 Standard Grip is made for driving because of its hybrid material. Constructed with a brushed cotton cord and soft rubber, the MCC Plus4 grip has a comfortable handle and reliable tack. Golf Pride promises this grip can help improve downswing, increase power, reduce tension and work well in all weather conditions. However, what most golfers will notice right away is that the grip is larger on the bottom than the top. This may feel unnatural for many experienced golfers, but the larger handed bottom allows for a lighter grip of the club — ideal for drivers.
Best for Putters: SuperStroke Legacy 3.0 [ Best Golf Grips of 2021 ~ 2022 ]
What is the No. 1 thing someone wants from a putter grip? Touch? Precision? Control? The SuperStroke Legacy 3.0 Putter Grip delivers all three.
Golfers will like how this thick grip aims to reduce tension on the wrists and forearms by allowing for parallel hand placement and a looser putt into the hole. The design is bold, with “SuperStroke” written in stylized text across the handle on grips ranging in color from white and black to red, yellow or blue.
Best for Small Hands: Ping ID-8 Undersize Golf Grips [ Best Golf Grips of 2021 ~ 2022 ]
It’s no fun to play with a grip that’s the wrong size for your hands. Playing with grips that are larger don’t just lead to more strokes on the scorecard, but may lead to pain and discomfort. If you use an undersize grip, try the Ping ID-8 grips. These grips are specifically designed for smaller hands, but the grip doesn’t stop there. Ping also features 360-degree, tire-like treads densely packed all over the grip for even better control and tack.

Golf Pride’s grip also has reduced tapering and lesser treads all around so you can feel the same grip throughout your swing regardless of the size of your hands. Golf Pride focused on control when they made this grip, but many golfers say that the biggest benefit from the CP2 Pro is that you don’t have to hold onto them so tightly that you impact your swing.
Best for Sweaty Hands: Lamkin Crossline Golf Grips [ Best Golf Grips of 2021 ~ 2022 ]
The surface of Lamkin’s Crossline Golf Grips is tightly packed with grip designs that look like hashtags. Far from a viral marketing attempt, this surface pattern gives the grip stability and “lateral traction” that works well in rainy weather or sweaty hands. In addition to the dense pattern, the grip is made of a synthetic rubber that grips the hand and provides a firmer hold and more feedback when you make contact with the ball.
What to Look for in Golf Grips [ Best Golf Grips of 2021 ~ 2022 ]
SIZE
There are four different golf grip sizes—undersize, standard, midsize, and oversize—each of which can be added to with tape to refine how it feels in your hands. How the grip fits in your hands is extremely important as it can affect your swing significantly.
TRACTION
You’ll want to test out the grip while swinging your clubs to make sure that it feels right. There are different types of traction a grip can provide, with ribbed, corded, and smooth options. The type you want ultimately comes down to personal preference.
MATERIAL
Grips are designed to perform best in certain conditions, and knowing what the weather conditions are generally like when you play will go a long way toward finding a great grip. Some grips use special material that’s made to feel tacky for better holding power, which will be helpful in rainy or really humid conditions. Comfort and softness play a big role in your final decision, too.

Hang on Tight: 9 Golf Grips You Should Consider
Are you looking for the best golf grips for 2019 to take your game to the next level?
While golf grips rarely get the attention of fancy new drivers or sleek new irons, your grips are more important than you realize. The wrong grips can negatively affect your game and make it much harder to score well. Your hands are the only thing touching the clubs so it’s important to find a grip that gives you confidence and feel.
When it comes to selecting the best golf grips, you need to find the ones that suit your grip, your swing, and normal weather conditions. Before going out and buying 13 new grips, make sure you keep reading to learn the most common types of golf grips and the best grips for 2019.
Types of Golf Grips
Before you start shopping around, it’s important to understand the three main types of golf grips on the market.
Rubber Grips
Rubber golf grips are usually cheaper to produce and come stock with most new golf clubs. These are usually used more for comfort than playability and not seen on much on the PGA Tour.
Corded Grips
Corded grips are so popular and used by some of the best players in the world. They are the best grips for playing in bad weather as the extra cord makes it easier to grip in slippery conditions. If you don’t play with a glove, I would skip corded grips as they are much rougher on your hands.
Wrap Golf Grips
Wrap golf grips are common among all types of golfers from beginners to Tour pros. Think of these as an upgrade form the old-school leather style golf grip. These are sort of a combination of rubber and corded grips.
Putter Grips
The last type of grip is your putter grip. This is one of the most important, if not the most important grip in your bag. It’s crucial to absolutely love your putter grip as nearly 40% of your shots happen on the green!
With putter grips, there are a lot of different styles and sizes. It is important to find one that works with your putting style and putting grip. Click here to read more about the Fatso grip and figure out if it’s right for you.

When typing in “best golf grips” into Amazon, I was surprised to find one brand I had never heard about…Karma golf grips. But with an outrageously low price, the Karma Standard Velvet golf grips had to make this list.
If you’re on a budget or just starting on your golf journey, this is a great option for your new set of grips. They have nearly 400 positive reviews, are very cheap, and come in six different colors. They have much less surface texture than any cord grip and are arguably one of the easiest to grip. But if you’re playing in inclement weather, I would stay away from these classics.
6. Lamkin Z5 Standard Golf Grip
While the Lamkin Crossline is a classic golf grip, the Lamkin Z5 is one step above. This grip design has an intricate horizontal pattern and cotton cord weave into the upper zone of the grip. This makes for exceptional traction so you can play in any weather condition.
Plus, this grip is more stylish as it comes in several colors and the top portion is white. If the white portion gets dirty, make sure to use Lamkin Gripes grip cleaner to keep them fresh.

The Golf Pride MCC Plus 4 Align is a unique grip that is made for players who prefer extra tape on the lower part of the grip. Golf Pride designed this grip as if four extra layers were under the bottom of the grip without actually making you use four layers of grip tape. This will make it feel as if the club is lighter and hopefully increase your swing speed for longer distance.
The MCC Plus 4 Align is part cord and part rubber grip making it ideal for all types of weather. These grips also come in a variety of colors and are built to last.

The SuperStroke Soft Wrap TC is a traditional rubber grip that comes in both all black and red design. Like other grips on this list, it also has a larger lower-hand section to keep your grip pressure light and remain consistent during your swing.
FAQs about Golf Grips
How often should I regrip my clubs?
This really depends on how often you’re playing, what type of weather you play in, and how hard you grip the club. For most golfers, you should probably regrip your clubs at least 1-2x per year to avoid oil building up and the grip from thinning out.
Remember, having the wrong grips can have a negative impact on your golf game. Don’t skimp out on this small investment.
The one club I would recommend regripping more frequently is your putter. It’s arguably the most important club in your bag and should always have a grip that gives you confidence.
One thing to note, it’s not uncommon for Tour players to use two different grips. They might use a normal grip on most clubs and a cord grip on wedges. This helps as they tend to practice with the wedges more and corded grips last the longest.
What are the best golf grips for sweaty hands?
If you tend to have sweaty hands during the round, I would avoid rubber grips as moisture can affect them. Stay away from the old-school Winn grips and stick with corded grips for more consistent grips.
Here is a full article on what else to consider if you deal with sweaty hands.

What to Look for in Golf Grips
Size
There are four different golf grip sizes—undersized, standard, midsized, and oversized—each of which can be added to with tape to refine how it feels in your hands.
FAQs
Do I really need a different grip?
Swapping a stock golf club grip for one more suitable to your golfing style is a low-cost way to improve your game. Firmer grips offer solid torsion control, ideal for players with high swing speeds, while comfort-style grips encourage less hand fatigue, a tackier touch, and more feel and control on finesse shots.
What size golf grip is best for me?
Measure your hand (from the bottom of your palm to the tip of your middle finger) to determine the right size. Most grips come in junior/undersized versions for hands that are smaller than 7 inches, standard sizes for hands between 7 to 9 inches, midsized for 8 to 9.25 inches, and oversized or jumbo for anything about 9.25 inches. Some brands also make women-specific models.
What surface texture should I consider?
What feels right should help considerably narrow your options. In general, rougher grips and more elaborate textures provides more hand traction and work well with golf gloves, especially when swinging your driver or irons. Smoother-feeling grips add a softer touch, an ideal consideration for finesse shots and putting.
How well do grips stand up to wetness?
It largely depends on the grip you choose. If you golf in wet or humid conditions or tend to sweat, look for a grip that’s made of durable rubber and those with moisture-management technologies that wick away sweat and water to assure you’ve got a solid grip even when things get wet.

Types of Golf Grips
The grip of a golf club is very important to consider. It influences the performance of the golfers a lot. The grip determines how well one will be able to hold the club in wet conditions. Also, grip determines the comfort of a golfer. One has to choose the grip type for their club very cautiously to ensure they will have full control over their swing.
Basically, in the market, one will find 4 basic types of golf grips. Choosing from those grips mostly depends on the golfer’s taste, feel, and comfort. Let us know about the advantages and disadvantages of these grips types.
1. Rubber- Rubber is the most used material in golf grips. However, the manufacturers do not only use rubber. They use a rubber blend in order to make the grip durable and soft. The rubber grip is very comfortable to grab. It produces a great feel and traction on the hand which enhances the performance of a golfer. And the use of blend improves the traction of the grip in wet conditions. The rubber grip is not so rough and keeps the hands moisture-free. No matter how hard one grabs the grip, the grip will continue to provide a soft feel.
However, rubber grips become slippery in wet weather. Golfers have to provide a bit extra effort in order to keep a stable hold on the grip.
2. Corded Grip- One of the most use grips is the corded grip. Most advanced golfers seem to use the corded grip because of their great friction. Basically, the cord is wrapped around the grip in order to provide superior control. One will have an enhanced grab on the club in harsh wet weather. Along with all-weather control, the corded grip provides great durability.
However, the only drawback of the corded grip is the roughness. Due to the corded construction, this grip is very rough, and grabbing it bare hand for a very long time can cause hand fatigue.
3. Multi compound Grips- This grip is often known as a Hybrid grip. The multi-compound grip is the best grip of all. This grip provides great control and feels all day long. Multi compound grips are constructed with rubber and cord materials. That means the grip has the good side of both materials. Different brands use these materials differently.
However, most manufacturers use the rubber in the lower part of the grip which increases the soft feel and features great response. On the other hand, they use the cord in the upper area of the gloves to improve control and performance in any weather situation.
4. Wrap Grip- Wrapped style grip is mostly used by senior golfers who are looking for an old-school feel. Generally, the grip is designed by wrapping a leather strip around the shaft of the golf club. This glove style features a soft feel with a stiff hold.
The wrap grip is not suitable for wet weather conditions at all. Also, it is not as durable as the above 3 types.

Buying Guides
Remember the saying – one size not fits all? Yes, this is true that not all the size will suit you and particularly for golf driver grips, this is truer. Hence, the great idea is to know the measure of your hand. According to the hand measures, you need to get the impeccable one. If the golf driver grip is more extensive than your hands, you cannot have the desired strokes.
At the same time, you need to check the features of the grip. Because of various types of golfers, the manufacturers add multiple kinds of functions. So, when you are planning to get a grip for your club, you have to check the suitable feature. Among the elements, you need to check the water resistance, anti-slippery properties, comfort, weight, among others. Besides, do not forget to ask if the grips are adjustable with different types of clubs or not.
Although the prices of gold driver grips are reasonable, you need to fix a budget. The idea that a higher budget will always result in better grips is not right all the time. You can have some top quality products in a lower budget too. But you have to keep searching for that perfect one.
At the same time, never forget to focus on the grip materials. Considering the needs of the golfers, the manufacturers produce different types of grips. Some of them are made with polymer while some others come with rubber. However, the grips with rubber are more durable. But if you have any other preference, you can check the presence of the material on the grip.
The weight of the grip also plays an essential role in golf. If you want to have a smoother swing, the weight should be moderate or around 40- 60 grams. If the grips come with more weight, then it would be tough for you to deal with. However, when you are using jumbo grips, the weight might increase to some extent. And you need to remember the fact when you are on the ground.
A large number of golfers are concerned about the durability issues. Many of them have a usual complaint that the grips last less as they expect. This is true to some extent. Many of the golfers prefer to save their bucks. And so, they get some cheaper products which last for a few days. But it would be wise if you check the features and prices rightly before you get that.
You are getting a grip, not a full club. So, the grip should come with the feature of alignment with different types of clubs. At times, you might need to adjust your favorite grip on a specific club. But if you fail to do that, it may bring mental distress, which will result in a bad round. So, the grip should also come with adjusting feature so that you can use it in separate clubs. Golf grip solvent is must necessary equipmnet to attach a golf grip in your driver.
On the flip part, the grips should come with easy maintenance feature. If the maintenance process is more stringent, you should discard the idea of getting that grip. Usually, the golfers do not much time to spend on the maintenance of the grips. So, if the upkeep is not more relaxed, they will not prefer the grip.
The installation process of the grips should be hassle-free. Many of the grips take time to complete the installation. But a standard grip should not take less than a few moments for the setup. Therefore, this is a must to check the installation process. If it takes time than usual, you should discard the grip from the list. It will only waste your times and energy. Instead, try to get something which comes with easy installation feature.

8 Simple Steps To A Better Grip (& More Distance)
You can’t swing a golf club effectively without a proper golf grip.
There’s no getting around this simple fact.
A consistent golf grip will improve your ball striking, fix your slice, make you more consistent, and give you an all-round better golf game.
Whether you’re getting ready to pure a 300-yard tee shot, or steadying yourself for a two foot putt, you need to know how to handle your club correctly.
It may seem strange to put so much emphasis on your golf grip, I used to think the same thing until I heard the greatest ball strikers crediting consistent grip as the #1 way to improve your ball striking. As Ben Hogan said:
Bad habits can be picked up early in any golfer’s playing days and they often don’t go away.
Think about just how many times you’ll grip a club in your life. Thousands. Tens of thousands. Maybe more. If you want to deliver the club face square onto the ball every time, you’ll need the proper golf grip.
A consistent golf grip is vital to great golf and lower scores.
It’s why some of the greatest golf coaches start with grip and golf stance and don’t move on until their student has fully understood and learned how to hold their drivers, irons, and putter. The same reason why we won’t let you leave here without understanding the same thing.
1. Evaluate Your Current Grip
Before we get a little technical and start showing you the best way to hold your club on the course, you’re going to need to do a little something for us. It’s a small step, but an important one nonetheless…
Now, unless you’re a seasoned pro or an amateur with decades of experience, there’s a very good chance that your game is going to need help. That’s why you’re here. And that’s why we’re here too. Your first step here is to think about your own grip and accept that it may not be perfect.
Picture yourself about to tee off or trying to stick it close on a short par 3.
How do you pick up your club? How do you hold it? What position are your fingers in? How comfortable is it? How confident are you that you’re going to hit a great golf shot?
Is there room for improvement? There is? Great. You’re ready to learn.
2. Grip Size
Your clubs have rubberized grips on them. They’ll be a standardized size. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re the right ones for you. Different size grips exist and they they’re out there for a reason. It could be that you need to invest in some new ones.
For now, stick with the ones you have. Read the rest of this guide and test out your grip.
If you find you are consistently pulling or slicing – despite adapting your hold – you may very well need to consider new grips. Your golf club shop can advise you on a suitable size. It’ll mostly depend on the size and shape of your hands. If you’ve got petite hands and short fingers, smaller grips are required. If you’ve hands like shovels, you’ll want something a little larger.

3. Hand Positioning
It’s time to pick up your club and start perfecting your grip.
Always pick it up in your weaker hand first (left hand for a right handed golfer). Turn your hand over so that you can see two knuckles of your left hand and then point the ‘V’ shape that your index finger and thumb have created towards your right shoulder.
Allowing for about a half inch of the club to poke out of the top of your grip.
Your left thumb should point down the right hand side of the shaft. Now take your right hand and grip the club, with your right thumb sitting on top of your left thumb. Make sure your right thumb sits on the left side of the club, facing downwards.
If this is all a little daunting for you and you’re not confident in your hand positioning, don’t panic. There are special molded grip trainers that can assist. They are molded to instruct you where your hands, fingers and thumbs need to be positioned.
Some even combine a grip trainer with a tempo trainer like this one. It’s perfect to keep at the office or anywhere you want to get some extra practice swings in.
4. Get a Sharpie Out
Carry a marker pen like a Sharpie in your golf bag. If you’re not entirely confident about how your club is sitting in your left hand, you can draw two lines on your glove at the correct angles to help. It’ll remind you where the club should be in your grip and give you that little boost of confidence that you’re not misjudging it.
Don’t worry, you’re not breaking any clubhouse or professional rules. It’s perfectly legal to mark your golf glove in this way to assist with your grip. Similar to how marking your golf ball can help you start your putts on line, marking your glove will allow you to guarantee that you’re consistently gripping the club every time you swing it.
5. Interlocking vs. Overlapping Golf Grip
The final piece in the puzzle – position wise – is whether or not to link your hands together with your fingers.
Some players do, some don’t.
However, linking your hands together has become the most prevalent decision amongst golfers in recent years as linking fingers promotes better wrist hinge and a more solid overall grip.
The most common method of finger linking is called ‘The Vardon Grip” or “The Overlapping Grip”. In this grip your hands are joined together by the placement of the right pinky finger being placed in-between the index finger and middle of the left hand.
Now all that’s left to do is align the thumb of your left hand with the middle of your right hand palm.
6. Pressure
As with most things in life, how hard you hold your golf club is all about compromise.
You shouldn’t grasp it so firmly that your knuckles turn white. You’re playing golf, not riding a roller coaster, but similarly you don’t want your grip to be too light that you’ll lose control over your golf club.
If you grip your club too tightly when you play a shot, you may well find yourself delivering the heel of the club onto the ball, instead of the face. Causing inconsistent strikes and a loss of control with every club in your bag. You’ll know if you’re holding on too tightly because as you address the ball, you’ll feel your forearms tense up. Play the shot like that and there’s virtually no chance you play it in a satisfactory way.
Keep your hands gripping softly but firmly. Relax your arms. Waggle the club a little if you like. Sometimes that helps shake off a little tension in the wrists and arms.
7. Keep Things Neutral At First
The grip and technique that we have described to you here is called the ‘neutral’ grip. It’s the most common and natural way to hold a golf club. It makes sense to learn this way and then, later on, when you’re more confident and proficient, you can learn the two other styles. Then you’re adapting your game and improving.
How much you rotate your left hand depends on the ‘strength’ of the grip. If you can see more than two knuckles on your left hand then that’s a ‘strong’ grip and it will close the club face on impact. Rotate your left hand counter-clockwise so no knuckles are visible and that’s a ‘soft’ grip. Which opens up the club face.
You can experiment with the effects of grip ‘strength’ once you’ve mastered the basics. But for now? Keep it nice and neutral.

8. Alternative Grips
We’ve shown you the most popular and ‘approved’ way of gripping your club. But, as with most things, there’s no real cast iron way of doing it. Everyone’s different and some golfers can’t get comfortable with the regular grip. Ultimately, you should do whatever feels natural and comfortable (but that still produces results).
Not everyone grips the way we’ve explained. In fact, some of the world’s top professionals have alternative holds. Take Jordan Spieth, for example.
The Dallas-born superstar holds his clubs like no other pro, proving once and for all that’s there’s no ‘right or wrong’ way to grip a golf club. So long as you know where the club face is and can bring down the thing to hit the ball flush and send it on a nice linear journey towards the hole, you’ve cracked it.
Speith’s grip is certainly unusual. But undeniably top quality. He doesn’t really overlap or interlink his fingers in a way that any other player would recognize. And his grip is pretty weak. He lets his left pinkie finger sit lightly on top of his right hand and only ever so slightly links it with his right pinkie.
If he were a kid going for lessons with a golf tutor, the teacher would get him to ‘correct’ his grip. But there’s no need. He can control the club, knows where the face is and can deliver the head onto the ball perfectly.
It’s not conventional, but it works. After all, you don’t win majors with a lousy grip!

How to Grip a Driver Not to Slice
Implement this simple left hand tweak and improve your golf forever! There are many videos produced, many articles & books written on how to cure the common slice. There is no better place to start however then to have a good solid grip of the club in proper structure to alleviate this age-old problem.
Left hand on the grip
Let’s start this one hand at a time. The top hand for a right-handed player is of course the left-hand and opposite for the lefties.
From this point forward I’ll use the right-handed golfer as reference.
Your top hand on the grip is by far your most crucial hand to get positioned properly. Getting your top hand positioned on the golf grip properly is probably the single most important thing you’ll ever have to get right.
If your left hand position is too weak on the handle, your struggles with a weak ball flight and golf swing in-efficiencies will be long lasting.
If your left hand position is too strong, you’ll have an entire different set of issues to work out, namely the ball moving too much left (hooking or drawing).
Your top hand is, “The Club face Steering wheel”
Your top hand on the grip acts as the steering wheel for your club face. The positioning of your top hand on the handle has an immediate and direct influence on the club face positioning at impact.
**Notice, the back of the top hand just below the shirt sleeve how it appears to be laid somewhat flat on top of the handle. From this players point of view he’ll be able to see the second knuckle on the top hand very clearly. This is good!
**Notice…and this is the key! The angle of the wrist joint that is created with your left hand set on the handle in this position. The angle of your left wrist joint should be caulked at an angle similar to what you see above.
The Angle of Wrist joint…is the key to a square club face
Whatever key you use, whether that be keeping your thumb on the back half of the grip. Keeping some angle to the back of your hand or clearly seeing your second knuckle.
The key with-in your left hand structure is to insure you have the proper angle set within your wrist joint as shown in the Image.
This Golf Grip Training Aid works wonders
There’s a very simple and affordable golf grip trainer. I’ve used this aide for years and it gives you perfect hand structure with both hands. The grip trainer comes in a two pack. My recommendation would be to grip a practice club that you can keep at home. Use it while watching your favorite TV show so your hands can become familiar with the new hand position over time. After only a short time it will go from feeling awkward to feeling normal.
The second grip, apply it to a club you can practice with and use it often. Your hands will naturally find a new position on the handle with ease. It’s truly a fabulous tool ! It’s been my go to favorite training aide for many years !
How to fix a slice in golf with the driver
Fixing your slice once and for all, you may need to look no further than improving your grip. When you play around with your left hand positioning you’ll notice very slight tweaks, stronger or weaker, will change the degree of wrist angle quite dramatically. When you look down at your left-hand on the driver, look at that hand is a dial. Dial your thumb on that top hand to the right, you’re promoting the club face to return to impact more square or closed. Dial your thumb to the right or strengthening your grip only small fractions at a time.
Notice how this starts to decrease your slice.
Keep dialing your left hand on the grip to the right in small increments until you’ve eliminated the slice altogether. Conversely, if that same hand is dialed too much to the right, be careful. Your wrist joint is set way too flat on the handle it may promote a hook. Dial your hand back to the left to reduce the hooking of the golf ball.
The Golf Grip Reviewed
Take a look down at your top hand on the grip of the golf club when in the set-up position. When you dial your top hand to the right, you’ll promote a square club face at impact and reduce the slice effect.
When you Dial your top hand to the left you are effectively reducing the angle of the wrist joint or weakening your grip. You’d want to dial your left-hand to the left if you are now hooking a golf ball more than you’d like.
Lower hand on the golf club
The lower hand on the grip, the right hand for right-handed players, goes on in a fairly neutral position. As shown in the picture above, notice if this player were to open his bottom hand completely. The fingers will point directly to the ground. There is virtually no angle set within the wrist joint for the bottom hand. The bottom hand simply goes flat towards the handle then you close the fingers around the grip.
From the image above pay very close attention to how the left wrist joint angle is set in. Compare that angle to the look the right wrist angle. The grip shown in the picture above, this player favors a slight draw to the ball flight. This can be seen in a some what aggressive angle set within the left-wrist joint. Also the neutral position within the right hand or right wrist. The key again to promote a draw or square up the club face is done with the left wrist angle.
Left hand vs right hand on the grip
It’s important to note when attempting to get the club face to return more square position at impact. Virtually all those adjustments should be done with the left hand alone. Dialing your left-hand to the right or the left (strengthen or weaken) will dramatically affect the club face ability to return to square.
Making those same adjustments with your lower hand has virtually no effect at all in aiding the club face to return to square. The key in returning the club face to square and minimize the slice effect or remove it altogether. Ensure your left wrist angle is in proper position, by way of your grip.
Slicing Driver but not Irons
There is of course more speed involved with your driver swing than your iron swings. If you find you’re fading your driver yet your iron flight is straight and true. You likely need a very small adjustment with your top hand on the grip (strengthen) as the additional speed created with the driver has left the club face a fraction open.
A slight tweak stronger, dialing your top hand to the right, which effectively sets a little stronger left wrist angle. This slight adjustment should take care of this light fade with your driver.
Best driver to fix a slice
The best driver to fix a slice has been to commonly go to a slightly offset club face. The adjustable weighting system on drivers is also helpful to promote a closed or open club face. Set up the weighting system to promote a draw.
Before you go and spend the pile of money on the new driver ensure your top hand is correctly positioned on the grip. Getting your top hand structured properly so as to set in the proper left wrist angle is highly important.
How to stop a slice in golf with the driver?
Look no further than the very basics of a sound grip of the golf club. When you get your hands positioned effectively on the handle you’ll be amazed as to how this returns the club face to square.
Remember your top hand positioning has a direct influence on whether the club head has the ability to return to square. Setting in the proper left hand wrist angle can stop a slice in its tracks.
Call Your PGA Professional
If you’re unsure whether you have your hands are set correctly on the grip. Seek out the advice of your local PGA professional. Request a lesson that addresses the structure of your hands alone and the grip pressure you apply to the handle. An in-depth hour long instructional on proper grip structure and proper grip pressure will go a long way to improving your golf ball flight.
Happy golfing friends!

Clutch complete set
The entire structure of the clutch system consists of a pressure plate, a driven plate, friction linings, a drive system and a pedal.Let’s consider what each element is for.
Pressure plate or clutch basket
This is a round plate with a characteristic bulge. Release springs are built into the base and are connected to a circular pressure pad. The diameter of the platform is equal to the diameter of the flywheel, and one of its sides is ground. The springs are actuated by a release bearing and move towards the center of the pressure plate. The basket is firmly attached to the flywheel.
Driven disc
The driven disc is located between the flywheel and the pressure pad.A splined clutch is mounted in it for connecting the input shaft of the gearbox. The platform is equipped with damper spring plates with independent friction linings. They smooth out the vibrations that occur when the clutch is engaged. The round disc has a radial base.
Friction linings
Manufactured from carbon composites, kevlar yarns or ceramics. Location – driven disc. Most often, they are attached to the base with special rivets.The splined sleeve is located inside the linings.
Drive system and release bearing
The most common type of drive is mechanical. The pedal in combination with a movable cable allows you to control the release of the clutch. The bearing is a circular pad corresponding to the diameter of the release springs in the center of the pressure plate. The element is mounted on the gearbox shaft casing and is driven by the drive rocker.
Clutch pedal.Mounted in the passenger compartment – this is the leftmost pedal.
Correct Clutch Operation
To protect the mechanism from defects and premature failure, it is worth following a few basic rules:
1. Do not keep the pedal half pressed for too long.
2. Prolonged slipping on a muddy section of the road can lead to breakdown.
3. Do not disengage gears while descending (in this case, first gear and handbrake are used).
4. Do not ignore the strong smell of burnt rubber.
5. Warm up the engine before starting to move.
6. Make sure that the number of revolutions of the tachometer does not exceed 2000 when pressing the clutch pedal.
7. Do not press down on the pedal even lightly while driving.
8. Do not press the brake pedal immediately after releasing the clutch pedal.
Which clutch to buy
Engine
When choosing a component, be sure to pay attention to the volume and type of the engine of your car.The degree of load on the clutch and, accordingly, its modification depends on these parameters.
Material of manufacture
If we talk about the material of manufacture, then the driver will have to choose between lightness and power. The organic material provides a smooth ride, but is the most prone to wear and tear. Accordingly, its resource will be small. Longest life for Kevlar clutches. They are durable and not afraid of high temperatures.
Copper trims are relevant for tuning and sports cars.They transmit increased torque to the gearbox with minimal downforce. The disadvantage of such elements is increased wear of the flywheel and basket. For a comfortable ride in any conditions, 6-8 friction linings will be relevant. As a standard, they are made from organic matter.
Clutch condition
When choosing a clutch system, pay attention to the external condition of the parts. Chips and cracks should not be traced on the surface. Choose a part with uniform rivets (the same shape and size).Do not buy an item with oil or grease on the surface. The roughness on the outside should not be excessive.

90,000 Rating of the best manufacturers of clutch plates
The clutch in the car is used to transfer torque from the engine to the gearbox. This is the most important mechanism, without the correct operation of which the operation of the car is impossible. Various types of clutches are found in both manual and automatic transmissions.Disc types are used in mechanics and robots. The general understanding of the operation of this mechanism is as follows: the clutch serves to connect / disconnect the gearbox to the engine. The connection is gentle so that the driver and passengers do not feel the jolt. The design of this mechanism is being modernized in detail, but in essence it has remained the same for many decades.
Today on our website we will talk not only about the design of transmission mechanisms, but also about the manufacturers of clutch discs and ready-made replacement kits.Unfortunately, this is the most short-lived part in a car’s transmission, and it has to be changed quite often. On average, the service life of original clutch kits on manual transmissions is 100-120 thousand km or about 8 years. Non-original devices last less. On robotic gearboxes, the disks serve even less, but the service life is highly dependent on the design of the gearbox. There are successful options in which replacement is not required within 100-150 thousand km of run, there are designs in which the owner has time to change several sets during the warranty period.

What types of clutch are there?
Today we will talk about the technologies that are used in modern cars. In a historical retrospective, one can recall cars in which banal gear couplings played the role of this mechanism, which was the cause of incredible discomfort during the trip. Today, clutch kits provide a sufficiently high comfort of gear shifting in any driving mode, which allows you to not feel even the smallest jolts.Also, modern technologies allow you not to worry about the correct use of the mechanism. The device allows you to release the clutch pedal quite sharply without getting negative consequences.
So, the main modern types of mechanisms:
- Dry clutch. The most common type on manual transmissions. The supply of torque is based on the frictional force of the driven and pressure discs. This design is good in that it does not need maintenance, refilling of technical fluids.
- Wet clutch. This device differs from the previous type in the presence of an oil bath in which the working parts rotate. The elements are always lubricated with sufficient lubrication to avoid damage. This technology is used on vehicles with a robotic transmission and only on some manual dual clutch transmissions.
- Dry double disc clutch. The double driven disc design is used for high power motors, including trucks.The product is capable of transmitting more torque without damaging the discs, thereby extending the life of the device. Application on low-power units is impractical.
- Dual-mass flywheel. Also, some cars use a flywheel clutch. This is a device in which both parts can freely rotate, and with the help of a switching mechanism they engage with each other. The device smooths out vibrations well under uneven load from the power unit. The application is not very widespread due to the relatively low reliability of the device.
- Ceramic clutch. This is a special type of equipment that is mainly used on very powerful and exclusive cars. It is understood that heavy loads will not damage the ceramic pads quickly enough. In supercars, for example, a traditional clutch design is not possible, as wear will occur in 1-2 trips.
Among the types of clutches, the largest market share is occupied by a dry single-disc design. This is the most reliable, simple and successful in development version of the device, which transmits almost any torque and does not break under loads.Of course, each product has its own resource. The contact of the surfaces inevitably leads to their wear, which becomes the reason for the need to replace the discs. It is better to change the entire clutch assembly to ensure its service for the next 100-150 thousand kilometers.
What is a clutch made of?
The components of this movement in the classic single disc design with dry operation are as follows:
- driven and pressure discs, as well as a flywheel;
- release bearing with shutdown clutch;
- gearbox input shaft;
- clutch fork;
- clutch drive.
In wet devices, the design is somewhat different, an oil bath is added to lubricate the mechanisms. The design may differ depending on the manufacturer, vehicle generation. Various sensors and systems are added to optimize the device’s performance.
Principles of the clutch mechanism
Briefly, the principle of operation can be described as follows: a diaphragm spring creates a force and closes the flywheel of the engine with the driven disc.This tight coupling allows the transmission of torque without loss directly to the gearbox. The mechanism has two options for operating modes – on and off.
The clutch is turned off by pressing the clutch pedal or by automatic (in robotic boxes). Having switched on the necessary gear, the driver releases the pedal, at a certain moment the discs and the flywheel engage and provide the transfer of engine torque to the gearbox and then to the wheels. Due to this, the motor rotates the wheels exactly at the required speed.
The best manufacturers of discs and clutch kits
Unfortunately, buying original sets is not always an optimal alternative, since the cost of such products is unpleasantly surprising. Is that domestic cars can boast of a more or less affordable price tag, but the quality of spare parts in this case will not be the highest. Therefore, almost all car owners in the budget and middle segment are looking for opportunities after the end of the warranty period to reduce the cost of purchasing parts for repairing the clutch mechanism.
We have selected the ten most reliable clutch kit manufacturers:
- Valeo. French company with production in different parts of the world. Excellent quality and production control are the main privileges of these spare parts. The catalog contains products for almost all brands and models of cars, a very responsible approach to the selection of materials from which components are made.
- LUK. A well-known firm that specializes in clutch. It is these clutch elements that are installed on many German cars from the factory.In the original form, they will cost you a fortune, but in the LUK box, a kit or a separate part will cost much less.
- HOLA. Registration in Holland does not mean that the products are manufactured in Europe. Factories in China do not prevent the company from showing fairly high quality products. But it is worth keeping an eye on originality. Very often on the market there are fakes of products of a well-known brand.
- Sachs. The products are distinguished by excellent protection. On the box you can find a hologram, and on the discs themselves and other parts of the set – special inscriptions and engravings.European quality, there is an excellent choice for almost all well-known brands and models of cars.
- Fenox. In the Russian market, this manufacturer is definitely in the TOP-10. The Belarusian manufacturer has established excellent production with quality control no worse than that of the world’s giants in this area. The manufacturer offers more than a good assortment, but the price segment should also be taken into account. This is an inexpensive product, and it will have a number of non-critical shortcomings in operation.
- Aisin.You know for sure that this manufacturer makes excellent gearboxes. But also clutch kits are produced under this brand. The Japanese manufacturer adheres to the principles of precision and workmanship so as not to spoil its name in the market. True, not all cars have clutches of this company.
- Pilenga. In recent years, the brand’s rating has slipped in European countries. Unfortunately, those clutch kits that Pilenga supplies to manufacturers’ conveyors turn out to be of much better quality than those that come in branded boxes to car dealerships.But the quality can still compete with rivals in its price class.
- KRAFT. In the asset of this manufacturer, almost all brands and models on the continent. Manufacturing in Turkey also gives hope for high quality. However, like any budget product, KRAFT has its own problems. But at this price point, it is a very good choice in terms of value for money.
- Exedy. The Japanese manufacturer is distinguished by high precision of production, a special approach to the selection of raw materials.But the company has a number of disadvantages, the main one being the cost of production. Too high a price turns out to be a real problem for a buyer in Russia. However, if you want a large resource and respect Japanese production, these parts are worth trying out.
- Trialli. Despite the Italian name, this manufacturer has little in common with Italy. The clutch is produced in Russia, and its quality is not the highest. But for most of the popular models, this type of clutch is the cheapest.Of course, its resource will be less, but the acquisition costs and, in general, for repairs will be much lower.
When choosing a quality clutch kit, you should be very careful when choosing a brand. Ask on special forums what is installed on your make and model of car. Often there are reviews of the owners of one model about a specific manufacturer, who praise and recommend it. Owners of another model strongly discourage buying a clutch of this brand.Therefore, you need to approach the selection, taking into account the budget, wishes for the brand and the recommendations of other owners of your car model.
We suggest watching a video about the principles of clutch operation:
Summing up the results
Modern cars have a reliable and high quality clutch kit from the factory. But during operation, it may be necessary to replace this mechanism. The wear depends on many factors, such as the quality of the initially installed discs, the peculiarities of car operation.The more abrupt starts and increased loads on the motor, the less the clutch mechanism will serve. Look to the leading clutch manufacturers when choosing a new kit.
Almost all manufacturers on the market sell well, so there are a lot of reviews on the Internet about specific models of disks, bearings and rods. It is enough to compare reviews, prices and include personal opinion to choose the best kit. Please note that one manufacturer may offer several clutch kits for your car at once.This is important to take into account, since the cost can simply be radically different, as well as the quality and service life of the equipment.
Which grip is better to choose: Luk, Valeo (Valio) or Kraft (Kraft)
Good day, dear motorists! Do you know what is the most thankless job? Right. Evaluate and compare. Especially among motorists. After all, it is known that the saying “who learned what” is especially strong among drivers.
Someone likes a Mercedes, and someone likes a Muscovite. Moreover, in either case, adherents of a particular detail, company, brand, will find a million arguments in their favor.
That is why we will not compare and argue which grip is better: Kraft, Valio or Luk. It’s a matter of habit. Some of the drivers like the soft clutch, while others like the car with automatic transmission, in which the driver has no idea what the clutch pedal is for.
In any case, you will choose a clutch without paying attention to someone’s advice, but guided by your personal experience of using this or that clutch.And our roundup of the most common brands of car clutches just gives you some food for thought.
And you decide for yourself which grip is better: Kraft, Valio or Luk. Naturally, after you have tried all three brands in operation.
VALEO clutch – greetings from France or Korea
It is generally difficult for high-quality car parts to live in the Russian car market. There are too many people who want to fake them. This cup and the Valio brand did not pass.
Valio’s counterfeit clutch kit is, in principle, easy to trace for the low cost and quality of the components. Today on the market you can find Valio clutches and accessories, both from France and from Italy, Spain and South Korea. Less from France.
Those motorists who used the Valio clutch leave the most positive and kind reviews about it. The Valeo clutch is also called the “female” clutch because of its softness and smoothness.
At the same time, reliability and a long service life are simply outstanding in their market segment.With the correct and competent operation of the Valeo clutch, it lasts up to 150 thousand km. mileage. The valeo clutch disc is not afraid of overheating (within the permissible range). The flywheel is practically eternal.
Luk clutch – with German pedantry and quality
It is impossible to say how true the statistical information is, but it does take place. And it reads as follows: today the Luk clutch kit is installed on every 2nd car of the German car industry, and the 4th car of the world car industry.
Let’s not argue, maybe it is.Especially when you consider the eternal marketing formula: price-quality, the Luk clutch fits perfectly into it.
A distinctive characteristic of the LUK clutch, and the reviews of Russian motorists confirm this, is the characteristic property of the clutch mechanism for vibration damping. The fact is that the Luk clutches include a vibration damper for the driven plate and pressure plate.
Clutch Craft: and we need … Turkish coast
About the Kraft clutch, the reviews of motorists are the most excellent.On the Russian car market, Kraft clutch kits are supplied from Turkish production, operating under license from Kraft (Germany). Common practice in the global economy.
Our motorists have not paid attention to these nuances for a long time. Moreover, the Kraft clutch has deservedly won the hearts of Russian motorists.
Kraft clutch is characterized by: soft release, resistance to overheating in intensive operation, durability of the flywheel. The average clutch service life is 150 thousand.km.
As a minus, drivers note the fragility of the release bearing. But in this case, a lot depends on the driver and his driving style.
Clutches of the Kraft brand have firmly and for a long time occupied their niche in the Russian car market: excellent quality combined with the budgetary cost of the clutch kit, I make it a rating clutch among specialists.
Here, perhaps, is all the overview information about the types of clutches that are relevant today. The choice is yours, and it is entirely up to you to decide which grip is better: Valeo, Kraft or Luk.Good luck in choosing the best of the best.

The platform is equipped with damper spring plates with independent friction linings. They smooth out the vibrations that occur when the clutch is engaged.The round disc has a radial base.
Friction linings
Manufactured from carbon composites, kevlar yarns or ceramics. Location – driven disc. Most often, they are attached to the base with special rivets. The splined sleeve is located inside the linings.
Drive system and release bearing
The most common type of drive is mechanical. The pedal in combination with a movable cable allows you to control the release of the clutch.The bearing is a circular pad corresponding to the diameter of the release springs in the center of the pressure plate. The element is mounted on the gearbox shaft casing and is driven by the drive rocker.

Valeo Clutch – Reliability and Softness
It is extremely difficult to find high-quality spare parts for cars on the territory of our country.The problem is that there are many who sell counterfeits. This also affected the products of the Valeo company.
Determining a non-original Valeo clutch kit is quite simple at a low price, as well as the quality of components. In Russia, the Valeo clutch of French, Spanish, Italian and South Korean production is being sold.
Those car owners who have tested the Valeo clutch leave extremely good reviews about this product. The Valeo clutch is often referred to as a clutch for women, as it is characterized by smoothness and softness.
Long service life and reliability are the advantages of this clutch that distinguish it in its class. With the correct use of the Valeo clutch, the kit is sufficient for 150,000 km of run. Overheating of the Valeo clutch disc is not terrible, and the flywheel hardly wears out at all.

Clutch rating VAZ
The existing offers on the market can be divided into several groups.The best manufacturers and modifications of clutches for VAZ are presented below.
7th place: STARCO
The rating of the best offers on the market is opened by a company that is a product that combines the developments of engineers from the United States and Turkey. In principle, the company is represented on the Russian market as a Turkish brand, but technological developments are collected from all over the world. Such a symbiosis provides sufficient reliability, high quality indicators and moderate cost, which attracts a large number of domestic motorists.
Initially, the company was organized in 2005 as a result of the signing of an agreement between several brands located in Germany, Turkey and the USA. At the beginning of the work, the company produced a rather meager assortment of parts, which frightened off buyers. As of 2020, the brand’s assortment has expanded to 7,000 items. Among other things, the brand has 2000 models of clutch kits ready to install.
The manufacturer is more focused on trucks. The choice of passenger modifications is scarce, but you can buy a clutch at a VAZ.
Values:
- Clutch baskets are strong enough to withstand rough use;
- moderate cost;
- sufficient quality of packaging;
- there is anti-counterfeiting protection on the friction pads.
Disadvantages:
- the clutch disc is quickly erased;
- friction linings loosen or fly off rivets quickly;
- damping springs of insufficient quality quickly settle or break;
- release bearing starts whistling almost immediately after installation.
The
6th place: AMD
The next representative of the rating comes from Asia. The brand was organized by Japanese corporations to create consumables for their own cars. Thanks to a competent approach, the organization managed to achieve wide distribution of products far beyond the continent.
After updating the assortment, parts for domestic cars appeared here – clutch kits, bearings, filters, etc. The main advantage of the company is that its work is as simple and understandable as possible – the buyer can order parts through the online store, without waiting for the order in physical outlets.Among the disadvantages, a significant disadvantage is the ability to run into a poor quality product. The manufacturer has several production sites in South Korea, China and Taiwan. The most negative thing is that in the parcel a motorist can get a low-grade product from the Middle Kingdom with the most meager durability. However, on the other hand, a Japanese part can also come – the kit will serve for a long time and will be worth the money invested. As a result, this generates many conflicting reviews among domestic buyers.
Values:
- gears are easily included;
- there are no extraneous sounds during operation;
- excellent disk geometry;
- optimal cost;
- is available online.
Disadvantages:
- part of the production sites are located in China;
- many conflicting reviews.
5th place: SACHS
You can also choose the best clutch for a VAZ from a German manufacturer.The company is a true old-timer, its history dates back to 1987. Initially, the company acted as the main supplier of consumables for Formula 1 competitions around the world. The next important step was the change in production rights. The ZF brand bought the organization and since then the parts have already been supplied for 80% of German-made serial machines, which guarantees a high level of quality and reliability.
The manufacturer declares that the breakaway moment of the car is adjusted to match the racing cars.In other words, the car starts earlier than usual. Consequently, there is no need to overextend the pedal, which reduces wear on the friction linings.
Users praise the excellent disk and recycle bin geometry. Thanks to this, they do not need to be lapped – normal operation begins immediately after installation.
The company got into the rating due to the high degree of protection against counterfeiting. At the factory, parts are packed in a branded box with a duplicate serial number of the part. There is also a special tape with a holographic coating.The work of the company exclusively with official dealers stands out separately. Strict control of points of sale and prices guarantees sufficient copy protection. Thanks to the input parameters, the buyer can quickly identify the factory part and determine that it has not been used before.
Values:
- reliable construction does not break down quickly;
- torque is transmitted as smoothly as possible;
- unnecessary to overexpose the pedal – sharpened for the racing mode;
- smooth linings do not require lapping;
- high-quality packaging prevents rusting of parts during long-term storage.
Disadvantages:
- the complete set is quite expensive;
- despite the efforts of the manufacturer, there is a large number of fakes.
4th place: LUK
If you have a question about which clutch to put on a VAZ, you can contact a renowned company widespread throughout the CIS countries. The wide popularity of the brand is due to several technological solutions and sufficient production quality.A special feature of clutch kits is the presence of narrow petals on the basket, which greatly facilitates the release of the pedal. A similar plus is relevant for the classics and some modern versions. Therefore, having the question of what kind of grip to put on the VAZ 2109 and older models is better, you can safely buy the products of the specified brand.
The reinforced friction clutch spring design also stands out, which extends disc life and minimizes lapping time. Separately, the presence of a large amount of grease in the bearings should be highlighted – after purchase, the device can be mounted immediately without worrying about lubricants.At the same time, the guaranteed operating time reaches 125,000 kilometers, which is unattainable for cheaper analogs.
The logical conclusion is that high quality is praised by some automakers and installed on their cars on the conveyor.
Values:
- smooth start-off;
- increased structural reliability;
- wide range of modifications;
- gears are engaged clearly and quickly;
- are installed on some machines from the factory.
Disadvantages:
- the abundance of counterfeit products on the market;
- the cost of the kit is higher than that of competitors;
- plastic parts are present;
- some items can be quickly discontinued.
3rd place: Kraft
The next in the ranking, a young Turkish manufacturer, is Kraft Tech. A relatively new company quickly gained momentum in the CIS countries due to its moderate cost and good quality.Blocks are supplied to the market in sets and packed in sturdy cardboard boxes, which ensures high safety of the equipment during careless transportation.
In the usual range of the manufacturer, there are 70 clutch models for different vehicles. An important fact is that in Russia the company has passed the Gosstandart certification, therefore, the equipment can be installed on the machines of state-owned enterprises and participate in tender procedures.
Each wheel model is individually marked to indicate that it has passed all the necessary tests and inspection procedures.At the same time, a young company is rarely faked. Cheap units are unprofitable to copy.
The final positive factor is widespread adoption. Parts can be bought in all cities or online stores, without worrying about the quality of the product. Thus, when asked what kind of grip it is better to put on a VAZ 2114, you can pay attention to Kraft products.
Values:
- high-quality packaging withstands careless transportation;
- quite soft clutch work;
- availability of a mandatory factory warranty;

2nd place: VALEO
The next company comes to mind when you ask which clutch to put on a VAZ 2114 or other similar cars. The sufficient high cost of the equipment is fully compensated by its durability. Normally, the kits nurture up to 120,000 kilometers. At the same time, there are cases when the disks survived up to 200,000 km, which is unattainable for most analogs.Also, the resistance of the equipment to overheating and overexposure on the depressed pedal is highlighted. According to user reviews, the disks are able to withstand critical heat, which is important for the southern regions.
The manufacturer has risen high in the rating due to an excellent safety margin – a standard set designed for a speed of 6000 rpm will work stably at 9000. Such a margin is relevant when you ask what kind of clutch it is better to put on a VAZ 2112 or tuned cars.Also, the ability of the mechanism to work stably when driving at high speeds or sharp acceleration is highlighted.
Values:
- Improved Critical Overload Reliability;
- large margin of safety;
- excellent choice of modifications;
- is quite soft pedal operation.
Disadvantages:
- big price;
- is difficult to install on the machine yourself;
- there are a lot of counterfeit products on the market.
1st place: HOLA
If you have a Chevrolet Niva car, which clutch is better to install, you can understand by contacting a Dutch young brand. The company’s products are manufactured in 15 factories around the world in accordance with the requirements of ISO standards.
Thanks to a competent approach to the production process, the company managed to achieve good results in Eastern Europe and the CIS. A design feature is considered to be sufficient protection of the clutch from impacts and the absence of a pressure ring.
Values:
- increased equipment durability;
- good corrosion resistance;
- includes a mounting rail.
Disadvantages:
- long lapping required;

Correct Clutch Operation
To protect the mechanism from defects and premature failure, it is worth following a few basic rules:
1. Do not keep the pedal half depressed for too long.
2. Prolonged slipping on a muddy section of the road can lead to breakdown.
3. Do not disengage gears while descending (in this case, first gear and handbrake are used).
4. Do not ignore the strong smell of burnt rubber.
5. Warm up the engine before starting to move.
6. Make sure that the number of revolutions of the tachometer does not exceed 2000 when the clutch pedal is depressed.
7. Do not press down on the pedal even lightly while driving.
8. Do not press the brake pedal immediately after releasing the clutch pedal.

Which clutch to buy
Engine
When choosing a component, be sure to pay attention to the volume and type of the engine of your car. The degree of load on the clutch and, accordingly, its modification depends on these parameters.
Material of manufacture
If we talk about the material of manufacture, then the driver will have to choose between lightness and power. The organic material provides a smooth ride, but is the most prone to wear and tear.Accordingly, its resource will be small. Longest life for Kevlar clutches. They are durable and not afraid of high temperatures.
Copper trims are relevant for tuning and sports cars. They transmit increased torque to the gearbox with minimal downforce.
Choose a part with uniform rivets (the same shape and size). Do not buy an item with oil or grease on the surface. The roughness on the outside should not be excessive.
If this comparison did not satisfy curiosity, then there are many others on PartReview.
For example, comparison of Luk clutch kits with such companies as: VALEO, Sachs, KRAFT TECH, Hola, VIS, TRIALLI, Exedy, AISIN, PILENGA, MecArm.
Comparisons of KRAFT clutch kits with such companies as: VALEO, Sachs, KRAFT TECH, Hola, VIS, TRIALLI, Exedy, AISIN, PILENGA, MecArm are also available.
In addition, you can find out who is better among other manufacturers of clutch kits: VALEO or Luk, VALEO or Sachs, VALEO or KRAFT TECH, VALEO or KRAFT, VALEO or Hola.

What kind of clutch is there?
As always, we will start the search for optimal solutions and answers to questions with terminology. What is clutch? This is an intermediate link between the power unit and the transmission.
The principle of operation of the mechanism, in general terms, is that it briefly disconnects the power unit from the gearbox.Due to this, smooth docking of transmission elements when shifting gears and damping vibrations is ensured. The manual gearbox is thus protected from unnecessary overloads and, accordingly, increased wear.
Structurally, the friction clutch, as the unit that transmits torque from the flywheel of the motor, is also called, has a whole set of differences. It can be electromagnetic, frictional and hydraulic.
And also “dry”, when the clutches work without lubrication and “wet”, when the working elements of the clutch function in the transmission oil.Distinguish between permanently and non-permanently closed mechanisms, as well as one, two or multi-plate clutch designs.
Finally, this element can be with a central spring or with several springs located around the pressure plate. Coupling can be either two more or single-threaded.
We will not dive deeper into this ocean of technological delights, since we are primarily interested in the question of which grip on the Niva 2121 is better.Let’s also pay attention to this car unit in relation to the Chevrolet Niva SUV.
The clutch can be: frictional (such a mechanism transmits torque due to frictional forces and is the most common), electromagnetic (the interaction of its elements is subject to the action of a magnetic field), hydraulic (fluid flow ensures the operation of its individual components in such a friction clutch).

We find possible problems and fix them
Below we list the main signs that it is time to attend to the search for a solution to the problem: which Chevy Niva clutch is better.Our list of the main malfunctions of this unit, of course, is not closed, there are other misunderstandings that can complicate the driver’s life, but they are due to special cases, and we give the most common problems:
Incomplete inclusion or slipping
Incomplete engagement or slipping of the clutch should immediately alert the driver. The first sign of such a disease – when driving in 3-4 gears, there is a slight increase in speed when the gas pedal is drowned, as they say, “to the floor.”Leave everything as it is and after a while, due to the fact that one disc slips, and all structural elements are constantly heated from friction, the driven disc will easily drive, and the pressure and flywheel may crack.
You can “cure” such a defect by adjusting the pedal travel. Inspection and, as an option, replacement of the driven disk can help:
Insufficient shutdown
Insufficient disengagement of the clutch is the second unpleasant factor.Even when the car is at a standstill, is there a noticeable crunch when the gear is engaged? Perhaps the pedal “walks” more than necessary and this unit cannot fully complete the task that is assigned to it, that is, disconnect the engine from the gearbox. In order not to have to repair the box, it is better to pay attention to the condition of the clutch release and the quality of the lubricant in the clutch. In a two-disc clutch, it happens that the discs become oily and simply stick together. In addition, the clutch “leads” when the input shaft bearing is faulty.
Accordingly, fresh lubrication or installing a new release bearing can help:
Abrupt jerks
Sharp jerks when you release the pedal smoothly are perhaps the most unpleasant news. This is how destroyed friction linings or a warped driven disc usually make themselves known. The springs may be broken or the release bearing has collapsed.
The repair is intuitive – we change worn-out mechanisms, or rather, we purchase the entire clutch and immediately install everything new.Saving here is not the best choice – separately, the basket (pressure plate) and the driven plate cost about the same for Niva Chevrolet as a whole new set with a clutch release:
Pedal “fails”
This threatens to disengage the clutch incompletely. So, go back in the text just above. To rectify the situation – pump the clutch by adding fresh “brake” to get rid of excess air bubbles inside the circuit.
What other possible clutch problems are there?
The cable clutch will not “open” the engine and transmission if the cable is cut.And if the pedal does not take its original place, then the spring has come off. Well, the wear of the release bearing itself is well known by motorists for its characteristic “rustling” sound.
It is also worth considering that on a car with a lever and cable clutch drive, as the clutches wear out, the pedal will gradually rise, in a car with a hydraulic clutch the tank will signal this, in which the fluid level decreases.

Choosing what to install on your SUV Chevrolet Niva, Niva 2121, etc.Modifications
Grip on the Niva 21213 which is better? We got to a direct question and will try to give an equally straightforward answer to it.
VAZ 2121 and other modifications Niva
At the VAZ 2121, from the very birth of a car with a 40-year history and until about 2009, the plant installed a single-disk, dry clutch with a central diaphragm-type pressure spring. The unit is housed in an aluminum crankcase integrated with the gearbox. The device was bolted to the power unit.The drive is hydraulic. Its casing was connected to the flywheel by six bolts. This is an ordinary “classic” clutch, which is still sold in stores for the old Niva, it can always be purchased and installed on your own.
True, it should be borne in mind that the very first cars should be taken, just, the mechanism from the VAZ classics:
Later samples 21213 have their own improved original unit:
VAZ specialists over time seriously modified it.Since 2009, the SUV has acquired a reinforced Valeo clutch, which is still installed on the Niva.
It is important that it should not be confused with the mechanism of the same production for the Chevrolet Niva – they have the same driven disc, but the pressure disc is slightly different due to different clutch drives.
And, nevertheless, a completely honest answer to the question of which clutch is better to put on the Niva 21214 will be like this – put a reinforced clutch of foreign production.The kind that the Chevrolet Niva is equipped with from the factory. Moreover, even for the oldest Niva model. Once in a lifetime, you can stock up on a little patience, arm yourself with tools and accessories, in order to subsequently enjoy the benefits, which we will discuss below.
Chevrolet Niva
The clutch here is single-plate, dry with a central diaphragm spring. The drive is hydraulic. What is the best grip on a Chevrolet Niva? Do not rush to accuse us of a biased attitude towards domestic spare parts – the design of foreign analogues is different for the better.Among the kits that serve faithfully for tens of thousands of kilometers, first of all, the previously mentioned Valeo clutch stands out, it was this supplier who collaborated with GM-AVTOVAZ from the very beginning:
Slightly cheaper clutch from LUK:
There are also separate parts for a partial rebuild of this mechanism.
Other offers are not inferior to analogues in terms of reliability, for example, a ready-made set from SACHS:
By the way, he is praised by experienced jeepers who regularly make off-road excursions of varying difficulty.Clients of SV-PARTS also speak well of him.
How do they differ? SACHS has an open metal bearing, while LUK has a closed one, albeit a plastic one. The first has the basket petals made of “spring” steel, and the second has the “spring” steel of the petals underwent additional heat treatment. We did not find any other subtleties. These brands, in general, are widely known in their field and have managed to earn the trust of consumers. So, our store will certainly help you choose and buy the best clutch for Chevrolet Niva.

Why install a Chevrolet Niva clutch on a VAZ 2121?
The issue of installing a “Turkish clutch” on the VAZ-21213 was resolved a long time ago. A foreign manufacturer has a number of obvious advantages. This set includes enlarged discs (diameter 21.5 cm) and a flywheel with an enlarged working surface. In addition to the increased area of the working surfaces, it is really stronger, it is difficult to overheat it, hence the resource is much larger.
The Chevy Niva clutch damper is much more powerful. Double springs are installed, the central part of the disc is larger, and the whole structure, as a whole, feels more impressive and reliable. The basket has a different diaphragm shoulder, so while it seems stiffer, it actually works softer. The flywheel is included and does not require additional balancing.
Riding with a soft, pliable pedal is pleasant both inside city blocks and on country dirt roads.Hence the obvious choice in terms of grip on the VAZ 21213 which is better.
The only negative is that you will definitely have to change the clutch assembly. The native VAZ mechanism will simply not work with a foreign design. Just take a ready-made kit, thanks to the engineers from Togliatti – the Niva crankcase easily accommodates slightly larger substitutes.
In order not to waste time on adjusting the clutch, experts recommend installing immediately the clutch slave cylinder from the Chevrolet Niva.The assortment includes the original factory version:
There is also a VALEO production detail:
We hope that reading this article has left quite clear ideas as to which Chevy Niva grip is better.
When preparing reviews, we are guided by our own knowledge and, of course, your invaluable experience in the use of spare parts in sports competitions on cars with large non-standard wheels. After such tests, during the civil operation of components and assemblies, there should definitely be no problems.

Features of servicing the Niva clutch and recommendations on how to extend its life
People who love and intensively exploit Niva SUVs are unlikely to find useful advice regarding the use of the clutch and gearbox. Any of you is aware that gear changes should not be accompanied by extraneous sounds, pokes or bumps. Both without moving and while driving. The acceleration of the car should be smooth, the increase in engine speed should directly correspond to the dynamics of acceleration without failures.
Unless we can separately pay attention to the question – what kind of fluid for the Niva clutch is better to fill. Checking and adding fluid to the clutch master cylinder is an elementary procedure. It will require the presence of the brake fluid itself and clean rags. There is a recommendation to use DOT-4 SAE specifications J 1703 or FMSS116.
Finally, completing the study of the issue of long-term and safe operation of the clutch, we recall a number of “elementary” truths.Do not keep your foot on the leftmost pedal. The leg gets tired, and worse is the fact that the grip itself “gets tired” faster than the due date.
The driven disc slips, the release bearing will crumble ahead of time. Of course, you shouldn’t keep the clutch off all the time. When idling in heavy traffic, disengage and hold the brake pedal.
Good roads and good travels to you!

There is an old joke about “car for sale” advertising: “State your price and mileage.”However, it becomes not at all funny when you realize that you have purchased a car that actually has a mileage of more than 200 thousand kilometers, although, according to the seller, it drove only 90 thousand kilometers. You may have read that this practice will soon be banned, but before that happens, it’s best to know how to protect yourself from it.
It’s no secret that even relatively new, 3-4-year-old cars can travel thousands and thousands of kilometers. Want an example? These are vehicles used by couriers or sales representatives.In such cases, changing the odometer reading helps raise the price and makes it easier to get rid of the problem. What should you look for in order not to become a victim of a seller with dubious intentions?
The newer the car, the easier it is to hide how much it was used by the previous owner. However, in most cases, sellers do not spend a lot of money on repairs, as it is not very profitable. When selling older models, the owners do not try very hard to hide the signs of high mileage, because it goes without saying that a car that costs 2-5 thousand euros is badly worn out, and investing more money in it only means less profit for the seller.Therefore, it is easier to determine the mileage that does not correspond to the condition of the vehicle.
The body will tell you the truth
The first thing that indicates a high mileage of a car is the condition of its front end. Damaged bonnet paint , stone bumps and faded spots indicate that the car must have driven a lot. Damage to headlights is another element that reflects the condition of the car – various defects can expand to such an extent that a particular part has to be replaced, which, in turn, indicates a high degree of wear.
Vehicle condition and high mileage can also be determined by examining the windshield and the areas around it. The more microcracks and dents on the pillars next to the windshield, the greater the vehicle mileage.
Body condition shows not only whether a particular mileage is real, but also allows a diagnosis to be made – what might be wrong with the car.
In conclusion: during an external examination of the car, it is worth paying attention to the condition of the hood (damage, fading), defects in headlights, the condition of the windshield, possible scratches and dents of the struts, as well as the condition of the body.
Let’s Look Inside
Inside we will find additional information on the vehicle’s mileage. A worn steering wheel, gear knob coating, or even the knob itself will be the first signs that the vehicle has been used a lot. Further elements are signs of wear on the seats and the condition of the upholstery. Defects are easier to spot on leather or velor seats. When examining the driver’s seat, it is worth paying attention to whether it is very “recessed” and worn out, whether it has significant scratches, and sometimes flaws.High mileage can also be indicated by the state of the armrest on the driver’s side door – as we know, this is the place where we put our elbows especially often. Discoloration or wear of plastic should not be noticeable even in the case of a run of 20-40 thousand km.
A salesperson or traders often forget to prepare (clean) plastic around buttons, such as the electric parking brake button, or around door handles, and the rubber or paint around frequently used buttons peels off or even falls off.The buttons themselves can also be a good clue, for example worn symbols are a clear sign that the buttons have been used frequently.
It’s also a good idea to take a look at the direction indicator levers and pedals. A couple of seemingly innocent stains that are more worn and damaged can prove the greater mileage. Few remember them, and yet they can convey a clear message to us.
By the way, very practical elements of the car – brake discs, different gaskets or the state of the engine – can “tell” the whole truth about the mileage.Therefore, it is better to consult with a mechanic before buying, since in order to reasonably answer the question of whether the declared mileage is real or not, an inspection of the chassis is required.
Date on plastic parts
Certain plastic parts (eg ashtray, headlight rims, etc.) are engraved with the year and month of manufacture. This allows us to more or less accurately figure out when the car was assembled (original parts are usually used on a permanent basis).If somewhere, for example, on the left and right headlights or on the direction indicators, there are different dates of manufacture, it is very likely that a particular part has been replaced, for example, due to a collision. The production date can also be found on the car windows. Thus, if the graphic in one window is different from the others, it is very likely that it has been replaced.
Stay alert and be careful
When deciding to buy a used car and not being sure of the mileage, pay attention to any signs of wear, scuffs, flaws, inappropriate colors of interior elements or too large gaps between body parts. Checking the VIN code and showing the car to a specialist can be the last resort in determining the actual mileage. Remember that the seller may update some parts, such as replacing broken parts, changing the upholstery, and this makes it difficult to prove that certain odometer readings are wrong. If the purchased used car “sparkles” too much (especially under the hood), this is an alarm signal. When we know what to look for, it will be easier to determine if something is wrong with the car.
90,000 What happens if the mechanics press the brake without the clutch?
Photo: supersto.by
Every driving school teaches how to squeeze the clutch before braking. However, long-term drivers rarely use the clutch in their daily lives. Thus, they save the resource of the node. But many are wondering what will happen if you do not use the clutch when braking? Will it hurt the car?
As a rule, drivers try to follow a driving style in which it would be comfortable for them to drive a vehicle, but so that important parts of the car would not wear out prematurely.If you abuse the clutch pedal, squeezing it for any reason, very soon you will have to go to the service for an expensive repair. And experienced drivers claim that braking is best without using the clutch at all.
Photo: ocdn.eu
Most often, young motorists who have recently received a license are squeezed out of the clutch before braking.
In order to understand whether you still need to use the clutch, it is worth understanding that you need to proceed from the speed at which the car is moving and the situation on the road.If the driver is moving at a low speed, about 30-40 kilometers per hour, then before braking it is necessary to use the clutch. That is why driving schools are taught to use it constantly – cadets drive slowly.
Photo: smotri-dtp.ru
But if a car is driving at high speed, then clutch braking is already losing its relevance. The car can lose traction with the road surface, which can lead to an accident.When the car is traveling at over 70 kilometers per hour, you can simply press the brake pedal. When the driver feels that the car is about to stall, then you can press the clutch to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Usually this moment comes when the speed drops to 20-30 kilometers per hour. It is very important to learn to feel this moment in order to use the clutch in time.
