90,047 90,000 10 most fashionable universities in the world: from New York to Tokyo – Ucheba.ru
The School of Design, which is often referred to as “# 1 in the USA”, is located, as you might guess, in Manhattan. No other specialized American university can boast as many ties to the fashion industry as Parsons has. The educational institution appeals directly to many of the largest companies, in particular to the LVMH group of companies (Moët Hennessy – Louis Vuitton), with a request to help students with internship, as well as evaluate their work.
It is curious that the famous brand Donna Karan New York, which experts consider the “quintessence” of New York style, was founded by a graduate of the school Donna Karan. By the way, the famous fashion designer does not forget about the role of the alma mater in his career. In 2015, she announced that she was launching a project with the university to help emerging designers in Haiti.
“Parsons is a very cruel institution. You will have to work hard and not get enough sleep. But as a result, you are likely to learn even more than you planned. This is a very tedious but rewarding education that prepares you for the realities of the fashion industry, ”Fashionista quotes university students. “Here you will get the foundation of knowledge necessary for every designer, which will allow you to take a broader look at familiar things and understand why clothing can be art,” add other students.
The head campus of Europe’s leading university in the field of fashion and design is located in Milan, the university also has buildings in other major cities in the world – in Shanghai, London and Paris (and in the near future, branches will be opened in Florence and Shenzhen). The Marangoni Institute can be called one of the creators of the popularity of “made in Italy” brands, because it was here that Domenico Dolce and Franco Moschino studied, who made a kind of revolution in the fashion industry.
However, not all student reviews of the Marangoni Institute are positive. For example, some of them consider the tuition fees unreasonably high. However, despite this, the educational institution is regularly highly rated by the compilers of various ratings. This is because more than 80% of university graduates find work without problems, and many of them have achieved impressive results in their field and gained worldwide fame.

Kingston University graduated not as many famous designers, stylists and glossy journalists as other British universities, but many key employees of the largest companies studied here (Calvin Klein, Armani, Burberry, MaxMara, Donna Karan, Givenchy, Lacoste, as well as Topshop, Asos and H&M). This is due to the fact that the university has well-developed partnerships with many enterprises in the fashion industry, including Inditex and Banana Republic. In practice, this means that students can easily go on summer internships in Amsterdam or San Francisco, as well as apply for a Brooks Brothers scholarship, after which they can go to New York Fashion Week.

The key word in the name of the educational institution is “art”.Here, they help the student to realize their creative ambitions to a greater extent than provide the necessary set of knowledge and skills. “In our country, each student writes his own artistic history,” the university says. However, in order to survive at the academy, you need to be extremely dedicated to your work. Not everyone is able to cope with serious loads and constant challenges, when you need to demonstrate your creativity and constantly create innovative and avant-garde projects. No wonder they say that the famous “Antwerp Six” (six famous graduates of the academy, who became famous after the shows in the mid-80s., these include Dries van Noten, Anne Demelmeister and Dirk Bikkembergs – Approx. ed. ) is distinguished by the courage and originality of the creative vision. These qualities of designers have conquered more than one generation of true connoisseurs of fashion and continue to inspire hundreds of young people entering their alma mater.

Located in central Manhattan, the institute has trained generations of talented designers. Those educated here say that this is not just a school, but an important part of the fashion industry. According to Fashionista, only specialists with at least 10 years of work experience are accepted for the position of professors of the educational institution. Therefore, the teachers here really know what they are talking about. In addition, FIT has an impressive digital archive of renowned New York City museums and libraries. Students are especially pleased to study magazines: what, for example, are all editions of Vogue since 1892…
Nevertheless, FIT also has a significant disadvantage – according to some student reviews, the institute’s programs are sometimes too practice-oriented. They believe that this is perfect for those who want to connect their lives with retail or mass market, but if the realization of their creative potential is more important for a young person, he should think about studying at another university. Of course, there are exceptions to each rule, but if you have not yet acquired your unique design style and want to first open up and then acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, you should heed these recommendations.
Bunka Fashion College has been instrumental in shaping the demand for Japanese designers around the world.Interestingly, until the end of the 50s. only girls studied there, and Kenzo founder Kenzo Takada became one of the first male students. In the mid 60s. he moved to Paris and began his journey to the top of the “fashionable Olympus”. For 10 years, he has become one of the most popular Asian designers, and his shows were held with constant success not only in the capital of France, but also in New York. Every year more and more college graduates become heroes of fashion chronicles (for example, Yoji Yamamoto and Junia Watanabe), so today the name of the institute has become almost synonymous with cutting-edge trends in the field of fashion.

The Royal College of Art’s international master’s programs, which train fashion designers, are offered at the School of Material Arts ball. The training involves intensive practice and takes place in close collaboration with renowned personalities from several fields – fashion, retail and media. Practical teachers and invited experts, explaining everything step by step, help students to reveal their individuality and translate it into design, so that later they can create their first collection of clothes and organize their debut show. College graduates work in world famous fashion houses, in particular in Prada, Alberta Ferretti, Burberry, Stella McCartney, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and several others.
By the way
Entering a university abroad is far from being as easy as entering a Russian university; it is better to check the details in each specific institution. So, in the UK they study at school for 13 years, and foreign applicants for a bachelor’s degree, as a rule, have to go through additional programs before applying – A-level, Foundation or International Baccalaureate. In US universities, it may be required to “transfer” the diploma, as well as take the SAT test, if required by the admissions committee. In Japan or Israel, it is often necessary to know the official languages of these countries. As for the master’s degree, in general, it is easier to become its student, but in this case, too, sometimes it is required to write a so-called research proposal or take the GRE exam.
90,000 215 years since the birth of the great Danish storyteller – Hans Christian Andersen :: Petrozavodsk State University
As part of the industrial practice, a 2-year master student under the program “Comparative Studies: Dialogue of Cultures in World Literature” Alina Gordyushkina held an online cultural event, dedicated to the work of the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. The lesson was timed to coincide with the onset of a significant event in Scandinavian culture – in 2020, the 215th anniversary of the birth of the famous Dane is celebrated.
The event was attended by 1st and 2nd year students of the Institute of Philology of the direction “Swedish language and literature, English”. The first part of the lesson was held in the form of a lecture in Swedish and Russian. In addition to Andersen’s writing, the audience discovered other aspects of his life: they learned about his countless travels in Europe (and several in Africa and Asia), his attitude towards Sweden, which he expressed in travel notes “I Sverrig” (Rus.“In Sweden”), about his meeting with Charles Dickens and his love for the opera singer from Sweden – Jenny Lind. The participants of the event discussed famous fairy tales and their adaptations, and also got acquainted with Andersen’s work in Swedish, having read his first published fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea”. To test the knowledge of Andersen’s biography and the practice of the Swedish language, a quiz prepared by freshmen in Swedish was held.
Students received positive emotions and impressions, new knowledge about Andersen’s life and work, Danish and Scandinavian culture in general. They were also delighted to have the opportunity to communicate in Swedish outside of the educational program and to work with other students.
M.A. Konovalova, Senior Lecturer, Department of Germanic Philology and Scandinavian Studies:
Holding such events is very useful for students: they not only learn something new related to the culture of Scandinavia, but also learn to communicate with each other in a foreign language.Combining two courses in one meeting made it possible to talk in Swedish with new people, this is especially important for the first course: to see with a live example what level they will come to in a year.
In addition to this cultural event, within the framework of industrial practice, a vocational guidance lesson was held on the basis of the Department of German Philology and Scandinavian Studies with high school students of the MOU “Lyceum No. 40”. It was dedicated to the Scandinavian languages and literature – those areas that are taught in the direction of “Swedish language and literature, English”. Having experience in studying other Germanic languages - English and German, the schoolchildren were able to carry out a comparative analysis of similar sounding words from Russian, English and North Germanic languages, i.e. Scandinavian. Modern Scandinavian literature was presented to students using the example of detective stories, since this genre is currently at its peak of popularity. High school students also received information about the possibilities of student exchange in Sweden and the cooperation of the university with the Swedish Institute.
90,000 Anderson, Lindsay is … What is Anderson, Lindsay?
There are articles on Wikipedia about other people with this last name, see Anderson.
Lindsay Gordon Anderson (eng. Lindsay Gordon Anderson ; April 17, 1923, Bangalore, British India – August 30, 1994, Angoulême, Charente, France) – British film, television and theater director, film critic, representative of the “British new wave “And the Free Cinema movement. Basically, Anderson directed television documentaries, in total Anderson directed eight feature films, the most famous of which constitute a trilogy about the life of Mick Travis.
Biography
Early years
Lindsay Anderson was born on April 17, 1923 in Bangalore, the son of a British officer who served in India. He studied in England: first at Cheltenham College, where he met the writer and screenwriter Gavin Lambert, then at Oxford University.
Before delving into filmmaking, Anderson was a prominent film critic, writing for the influential magazine Sequence (1947-52), co-founded alongside Gavin Lambert and Karel Reisch, later writing for the British Film Institute in Sight and Sound magazine and in the liberal newspaper New Statesman. In 1956, in a polemic article “Stand Up, Stand Up” for “Sight and Sound”, he severely criticized modern cinema techniques, in particular, the desire for objectivity. Using as an example some of the remarks made by Alistair Cook in 1935, where Cook argued that politics is a critic, Anderson explained:
“Debt problems are only at first glance obvious .
.. Rejecting critics is morally responsible, but only if you sacrifice your dignity. … [Suggestions:] the pursuit of liberal, or humane, values; with the proviso that they should not go too far, adopting a tone that allows the writer to dodge through humor [mean] fundamental questions to avoid being resisted.”
Free Cinema Movement
Following a series of notes that he and national theater scriptwriter Karel Reisch organized in their search for a direction for independent short film production, he developed the philosophy of cinema that became known in the late 1950s as the Free Cinema movement. It was the belief that British cinema should abandon its class-based relationship. Along with Karel Reisch, Tony Richardson and others, he secured funding from various sources (including Ford of England), with the result that each of them produced a number of socially challenging short documentaries focusing on different social themes. One of Anderson’s early short films was Thursday’s Children (1954), dealing with the education of deaf children, in collaboration with Guy Brenton (one of his friends from Oxford), which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short in 1954.
Anderson’s first full-length feature film, Such is Sports Life (1963), was included in the Cannes Film Festival program. The project was first discussed to the rank of organization as a possible project by Joseph Losey, an American director known for his long collaboration with the writer Harold Pinter, and then the work on the film was transferred to Karel Reisch, who at that time will shoot another film in the North of England (Saturday Night and Sunday morning ”), passed it on to his friend, Lindsay Anderson.Anderson asked Reisch to produce the film.
In addition to working in films, Anderson is known as a theater director. He was for a long time the director of the Royal Court Theater . His most famous painting – “If” – in 1969 was awarded the “Golden Palm”, the main award of this festival.
Death
Lindsay Anderson died in Angoulême, France, at the age of 71, on August 30, 1994. After the death of the director, the British Film Institute (eng. British Film Institute ) commissioned director Stephen Frears to direct a television film about British cinema, entitled “A History of English Cinema by Stephen Frears”, as part of the Age of Cinema project. Frears’ film was dedicated to and expressed gratitude to three directors of British cinema: Alexander Makendrick, Lindsay Anderson, Derek Jarman [1] .
Personal life
Gavin Lambert’s memoir, mainly about Lindsay Anderson, was written as a traitor to his friends. In addition, Lambert claimed that Anderson was sexually calm and restrained. McDowell quoted this in 2006 saying:
“I know that he was in love with Richard Harris, who starred in his film ‘This is Sports Life.’ I’m sure it was the same as with me and Albert Finney and everything else. It was not physical love. But I guess he always fell in love with his main actor. He always chose someone who was unattainable because he was heterosexual. ” [2]

The network will seek to engage civil society organizations, research institutions that study the culture of indigenous peoples, local artists and media producers, and new partners from educational institutions to create a forum to discuss the role of existing folklore, photographic and ethnographic collections held by members and the founders of the network, for cultural revitalization, and for collaborating on innovative ways to help make archival materials available to a wider audience.
