2021 MLB All-Star Game rosters: Ohtani makes history; deGrom, Altuve among players skipping game
Getty Images
The 2021 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13 at Coors Field in Denver. MLB unveiled the full rosters for the game on July 4, and injury replacements were made prior to the All-Star break. Angels two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani made history by becoming the first player selected as a hitter and pitcher to the Midsummer Classic. Ohtani will start as DH in an American League lineup that also features Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Aaron Judge. In the National League, Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. will be joined by Freddie Freeman and others in the starting lineup.
The starting lineups were determined by two phases of fan voting. Positional reserves and pitchers are chosen by a combination of player vote and commissioner’s selections.
There will be some notable selections not participating in Tuesday’s Midsummer Classic. Angels star Mike Trout will miss the game as he continues to recover from a calf injury. Mets ace and would-have-been NL starting pitcher Jacob deGrom decided to skip the game after dealing with first-half injuries. And none of the Astros’ four All-Stars, including Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, will play in the game.
As has long been the case, each of MLB’s 30 teams must be represented by at least one All-Star selection, and this is where the commissioner’s selections will likely come into play. The managers — Kevin Cash for the AL and Dave Roberts for the NL — will choose the starting pitchers. In the NL, Roberts will also choose the DH from his list of reserves.
Here are the starting lineups for the game. Ohtani is the starting pitcher for the American League, as well as the team’s leadoff hitter. Nationals ace Max Scherzer will start for the National League.

MLB All-Star Game 2021: How to watch free live stream, TV, channel, as five Red Sox players compete for American League vs. National League
Five Red Sox players are in Denver, but they’ll all be playing the All-Star Game in the shadow of both the Rocky Mountains and Shohei Ohtani.
The Angels star will make history Tuesday night as the American League’s starting pitcher and starting designated hitter.
The fact that he’s considered both and not just a pitcher choosing to hit with no DH is significant too. Because it’s the All-Star game and nobody pitches for long stretches, Ohtani could be out of the game before his spot in the batting order pops up a second time. But the league has adjusted the rules that will allow him to stay as the DH after he’s replaced as the pitcher.

Associated Press All-Star Game CoverageDENVER (AP) — As five dozen All-Stars sat outside Coors Field ahead of the All-Star Game, they looked forward to the Greatest Sho on Earth.
Shohei Ohtani is the starriest of them all, the center of attention for players and fans like no one before at baseball’s midsummer classic.
Fans cheered when he was introduced Monday at a news conference located outdoors, across the street from Coors Field due to the pandemic. He competed in Monday night’s Home Derby and will start on the mound for the American League in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game and hit leadoff as the designated hitter.
Ohtani is doing just about everything other than mow the grass and solve the ballpark’s mile-high hitter-friendly air currents.
“People always say, ‘Oh no, he can’t do that,’ until the guy goes out and does it,” said Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who won his second straight derby. “And then, when he does do it, it’s like, ‘Oh, we knew it the whole time.’”
A 27-year-old in his fourth major league season with the Los Angeles Angels, Ohtani will be the first two-way starter in the history of the All-Star Game, which began in 1933. Not even Babe Ruth did it, having last pitched regularly in 1919.
Ohtani was separately voted to start at DH by fans and to be among five AL starting pitchers by fellow players.
“I was actually not expecting to be chosen as a pitcher at all,” Ohtani said through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. “It’s a huge honor, and I’m going to try my best.”
Washington’s Max Scherzer, who will become just the sixth pitcher to make four All-Star starts, is in the background because of Ohtani, who leads the majors with 33 home runs and is 4-1 with a 3.49 ERA in 13 starts.
“It would be awesome if I can hit. Right now, I’m 0-for the first half this year,” said Scherzer, who is hitless in 30 at-bats.
Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman said he, like others, was pushed at a young age to choose between being a pitcher or position player.
Freeman was astounded back on April 4, when Ohtani pitched a hitless first inning against the Chicago White Sox, homered in the bottom half and went back out to the mound for the second.
“I don’t understand how the brain can flip flop from, ‘I’ve got to get three outs and then I’ve got to go and score a run for myself,’” Freeman said. “Any time he’s on the field, you’re just amazed that he has the energy — the mental energy — to handle all that, because I watch the guys when they pitch, the game-planning that goes on before the games, and he’s game-planning and then having to hit batting practice in the cage.”
“He’s got like literally a 12-hour day every day. And then when he pitches, then you have to do your arm care the next day, you got to get all the lactic acid out out of your body. And then you’ve still got to DH at night,” he said.
Major League Baseball altered the rules for Tuesday to allow Ohtani to essentially be two players. When he is replaced on the mound, he can remain as the DH.
“I think we would all respect what he’s done and meant to our game this year. This is what the fans want to see. It’s personally what I wanted to see,” said AL manager Kevin Cash of Tampa Bay. “And to have the opportunity to do something that’s a generational talent, is pretty special. I begged Major League Baseball to tweak the rule.”
Freeman was a two-way player in high school who threw in the mid-90 mph range, and most teams in 2007 wanted him as a pitcher, except the Braves and Chicago Cubs. He remembers the difficulty even at that level.
“My elbow was killing me,” he said.
San Diego third baseman Manny Machado cracked a smile when asked about his two-way talent: “I got rocked when I was 18 years old, and that’s the last time I ever pitched.”
Washington outfielder Juan Soto became a full-time position player at age 15 when told by coaches they were impressed with his hitting.
“I threw no-hitter and everything in Little League, but I don’t know if I can do it in the big leagues,” he said.
Signed at a relatively bargain price of $3 million this year and $5.5 million next season, Ohtani will be eligible for salary arbitration after 2022. If he keeps at this pace, he raises the prospect of commanding double the usual price heading into his final season before free agency, perhaps $30 million to $40 million or more.
Baltimore first baseman Trey Mancini was on the mound, too — once upon a time.
“Dylan Bundy hit a home run off of me my senior year of high school in my last pitching performance,” he said of his future Orioles teammate.

Major League Baseball ( Major League Baseball , MLB ) is an organization uniting professional
baseball teams in North America.
The
League was formed in 2000, after the amalgamation of the National ( NL ) and American ( AL ) baseball leagues.
(created in 1876 and 1901, respectively). MLB , along with NFL
(American football), NBA
(basketball) and NHL (ice hockey) are among the “big four” most
popular professional sports leagues in the USA.
There are currently thirty teams in MLB (twenty-nine from the United States and one from
Canada), while the historical division into two leagues (with
some differences in the rules between them) has been preserved. The National and American Leagues, in turn, are divided into three
divisions each (East, Central and West).
Season MLB consists of spring training games ( Spring training ), regular season ( Regular
season ), Wild Card Games ( Wild Card Game ), Division Series ( Division Series ), Title Matches
the winner of the leagues ( Championship Series ) and the “world series” ( World Series ).
Played by Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels
Serves by pitcher New York Mets Robert Dickey
Teams’ Spring Practice Games MLB (“preseason” games) run from mid February to late March. They are
not only give players an opportunity to prepare for the start of the championship, but also allow coaches to take a closer look at newcomers.
During spring training , many friendly matches are played, which attract many spectators. Commands
from the eastern states of the United States hold their spring training in Florida (often referred to as “Grapefruit
league “), and from the western – in Arizona (” Cactus League “).
Regular Season (Regular Season) MLB runs from late March – early April to late September. On his
each league team plays 162 matches throughout, usually grouped in a series of three (rarely two or four) games
between the same rivals. Most meetings are held between teams belonging to the same league ( NL or
AL ), but twenty times a season each team meets rivals from another league ( interleague
play ).
In addition, an All-Star Game () is held in the middle of the regular season (mid-July).This is
a spectacular match in which the “teams” of the National and American leagues meet. Team of the league that won in
All-Star Game , gains home stadium advantage during World Series games.
“Postseason” games (playoffs, playoff ) in the National and American Leagues start with matches for
“wild card”, in which the teams with the best win / lose ratio, but are not the leaders of their division,
compete for the right to advance to the next stage. The “divisional series” of each league is played by the teams that have won their
divisions, and winner of the Wild Card game. Then in the “championship series” the winners of the American and
National leagues, in turn, meeting each other in the “World Series”.
Winning team World Series wins Main Prize MLB – Commissioner’s Trophy . “World
series “have been held since 1903, with the most” titled “teams being New York Yankees (twenty-seven
victories), St.Louis Cardinals (eleven wins), Oakland Athletics (nine wins), San Francisco
Giants and Boston Red Sox (seven wins each).

The best pitchers in each league receive the “Cy Young Award” ( Cy Young Award ), named after the legendary
a pitcher who played in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and won more victories than any other pitcher in
history of American baseball. In turn, the best hitters receive awards bearing the name
Hank Aaron ( Hank Aaron Award ) – record holder MLB in the number of knocked out home runs.
Each year in both leagues, symbolic “national teams” are selected, which include players from all field positions, better
all those who play in defense (the prize is called Gold Glove , “Golden Glove”) and in attack ( Silver Slugger ,
“Silver Bat”).
There are also awards for the best relievers ( relief pitcher ; for pitchers entering the game after the start
pitcher, usually in the middle innings) – Relief Man Award , to the closers (as they call the players in the last innings
pitchers) – Delivery Man Award , best beginners – Rookie of the Year , best managers (trainers) –
Manager of the Year , the best “returning” (after injuries) player – Comeback Player of the Year and others.Of particular note is the Roberto Clemente Award ( Roberto Clemente Award ), awarded for sportsmanship, personal
contribution to the success of their team and active social activities. In addition, for the distinguished service name of the player, already
retired from a sports career, may be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Each season, the best batters compete for the highest percentage of hitters in MLB .

( runs batted in, RBI ).If a player manages to take first place in the league on all these indicators, they say that he
collected the “Triple Crown” ( Triple Crown ). In turn, for the “Triple Crown” pitchers, the greatest

More about sports in the USA:
90,000 Games of the nineties and early 2000s, still relevant today / Games
We must take fire from the past, not ash.
Jean Jaures, French philosopher and historian
The river of time often carries away our favorite things. It remains to remember and indulge in light sadness. Video games are no exception.
Photorealism has come to interactive graphics, next-generation consoles are treading on the doorstep, and these games are as enjoyable as ever. No, this is not about your personal gaming values. Your favorite game may not be in this material. We will recall those projects of the twentieth century that are objectively cool to this day.Behind which even young people can hang with their eyes burning. Those connoisseurs of video games who did not find the last century at all. Go.
Earthworm Jim (1994 ). The star of the 16-bit era, Jim the Worm has become one of the most recognizable characters in video games. Zuboskal and a wit, a fighter against evil and a space traveler, he was, perhaps, the brightest and most extraordinary hero of the games of his era. Earthworm Jim has a rich history and a well-developed universe – here the animated series came to the rescue, which, by the way, was very popular at that time on Russian-language TV channels.Once a wonderful spacesuit fell from space to Earth, giving the owner strength and intelligence. An ordinary earthworm accidentally crawled into the spacesuit – and that’s how Jim appeared. And the game about him has become a reference two-dimensional action game, with dashing shooting, very diverse levels, interplanetary flights in pseudo-3D and graphics as close as possible to a good cartoon.
There have been rumors of Jim’s imminent return. We are already tired of waiting
Comix Zone (1995). Comics and video games have a long and strong bond. But never before Comix Zone (and after it) we were not offered in games a journey to the pages of a comic book in the literal sense of the word. According to the plot of the game, the artist gets into his own comic strip: during a thunderstorm, he changes places with the drawn villain. The visuals were created in the spirit of graphic novels, and the characters in the game came to life using advanced motion capture technology. Comix Zone’s gameplay combined a fierce fighting game with adventure elements. But the main advantage of Comix Zone is the aesthetics of the comics, which directly affects the process. So, the villain Mortus from the real world constantly painted our opponents – we saw his pencil right in the frame. And our tame rat could find the cache by tearing off the edge of the page that served as the border of the game screen for us.
The villain personally draws his minion
Myth : The Fallen Lords (1997). The first part of the dark fantasy trilogy blew up the gaming community at the time. They talked and wrote about Myth even in the post-Soviet space, where that very community did not differ in size. This tactical game was 3D, although it used sprite characters. And the camera obediently turned around, the unevenness of the relief was important, sometimes critical, and the distance and approach of the angle at that time flaunted unprecedented freedom. But the main star was the working game physics. This has never happened before. The gnomes’ grenades bounced off the walls, rolled down the slope to the feet of the one who threw them, and the explosion of a dozen mines covered the screen with shrapnel and debris. Imagine only: a monster’s paw, torn off by a bomb, with a cleaver clamped in it, could fly ten meters in order to stick into a zombie standing nearby. Such tricks are rarely seen today. Hardcore gameplay forced dozens of times to replay the most tense moments, monsters delighted with pretentious design, and animated screensavers reminiscent of the best works of Don Blute (cartoon “All Dogs Go to Heaven”, game Dragon’s Lair).
Monsters will attack the village and will outnumber the defenders many times over. Victory will give a horse dose of endorphins
Half – Life (1998). The advent of Gordon Freeman has changed a lot in game development in general and in shooters in particular. The story was told only in the first person and only in real time. Gamers got a stunning sense of ownership. An amazing gaming universe has appeared, to which, by the way, the developers will soon return in VR format. The roots of this world grow from Stephen King’s story “The Mist”, but the Half-Life universe has significantly outgrown the original source in scale and detail. The story of a failed experiment is impressive today, in such detail the Valve team showed the disaster through the eyes of Freeman. And the gameplay was remembered by the fact that for a dozen hours of passage it never sagged to the point of boredom and did not repeat itself. We were shown scenes in the best traditions of Hollywood, frightened by unprecedented monsters, and in the original arsenal of the hero there were tame carnivorous cockroaches and much more.
Half-Life had everything you could think of for a shooter. Helicopter battle including
Baldur ‘ s Gate (1998). This story – which, as many know, will soon continue – began over twenty years ago. Developers from the Canadian company BioWare, which would later create Mass Effect and Star Wars: The Old Republic, took up the license for the legendary D&D board game. The game has become the most real revolution in the genre.Paused, tactical real-time battles are still vigorously played today – all thanks to the wealth of possibilities. The plot about the children of Baal was fascinating and went from cliches: the main villain acted from the shadows, inciting a major war. The heroes of the party became personalities: they could take offense and leave the tyrant player. But the main star of Baldur’s Gate is the Forgotten Realms themselves. A really big, colorful, dangerous and wonderful world for adventure seekers. To the accompaniment of unforgettable music, we trampled the fields and woods, poked our noses into such interesting caves and burial grounds, and on the road we could be met by an impudent swordsman and challenged to a duel.He could be successfully sent to hell – nonlinearity.
During the battle, Baldur’s Gate turned into a tactical strategy
Planescape : Torment (1999). This classic RPG is a must-see for anyone with a passion for video games. This is Dungeons & Dragons again, only now in the very bizarre world of Sigil, the City of Doors. From there you can get into an infinite number of other worlds, if you want. And if you don’t want to, too. The game became famous for its powerful multi-layered plot, for which the notorious 800,000 words were written. A story about immortality and its meaning, about love, friendship, betrayal and a dozen more equally important things. Planescape: Torment tells the story of the Nameless One, a character with no memory and no ability to die. The main force of gameplay is dialogue. They decide and determine everything that happens here. The dialogues are branchy, beautifully written, and verbose. Well, the team of Nameless is another good reason to join the classics. What is one flying skull Morte – talker, coward and womanizer (!).
During his lifetime, Morte was still a sinner. Death didn’t really change anything
Homeworld (1999). There were strategies for space before Homeworld. But only this successful RTS reminded us that space is three-dimensional. All actions, be it the collection of resources or the battle of fleets, took place in full 3D, with a free camera and maneuvers along all axes. This was simply a shock. Homeworld is still interesting today.A well-developed and balanced tactical model – it’s not in vain that the Canadian masters from the Relic studio worked on the game, who now account for such series as Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. There is a real sense of epic proportions here: under our command is the famous Mothership, home to an entire race. Here is a fascinating story about the search for a lost homeland. There is a stunning beauty of space and a great soundtrack. Such matters are timeless (but the remaster was still released).
Space in the game is far from real colors. But incredibly beautiful
Silent Hill (1999). One of the most terrifying, stylish and philosophically charged episodes started on the old PS1, who was sitting on a console throne just at the end of the millennium. The story of Harry Mason and his search for the missing daughter will not leave indifferent even a modern gamer spoiled by drama. The town of Silent Hill, under which the coal deposits are burning, is densely hidden by fog – you may have heard the legend that this is how the draw range was reduced for the frail console. But the scenery here is more frightening than the grotesque monsters from the darkness. One of the “shot” chips – excursions into a parallel world, rusty, dead and full of almost palpable melancholy and discomfort. The set included a set of convincing, well-voiced characters. Some puzzles can be described as examples of gloomy design. And you should definitely remember about the music of the genius Akira Yamaoka.
Creepy and exciting. What else does a good horror game need?
Sacrifice (2000). This strategy game has become one of the most unusual games in the genre. At the same time, the game from the Shiny Entertainment team was and remains an incredibly exciting, stylistically effective and successful experiment. We played as a powerful sorcerer, led troops into battle and personally smashed the enemy with magic from a third person. The main resource was the souls of those killed on the battlefield. And the victory was achieved by the wizard who was able to desecrate the opponent’s altars faster, sacrificing one of the units there. The process was unusual and complicated, but the game was tight.Along with the unusual mechanics, it is worth noting the design of worlds and creatures. The developers set out to surprise, and they did it. Sacrifice is psychedelic in the best sense of the word: here every piece of location, every small character is a hymn to the victorious underground, non-format and visual style. It is worth appreciating at least five of the local grumpy gods. Well, the petty demon collecting souls with a huge syringe is an unforgettable sight.
At one time, the maximum Sacrifice settings sacrificed most of the PCs
Deus Ex (2000). There are games in which literally everything is great. This includes the first part of Deus Ex. This cyberpunk gaming classic has a great story about a global conspiracy. There is an incredible variety of gameplay – from hard action to subtle stealth. The world of Deus Ex is detailed at the level of a multivolume fantastic book by an experienced author. There are tons of excellently written and voiced dialogues. There are many cool tracks by Alexander Brandon playing here. Adrenaline missions in the terrorists’ lair give way to walks through the spacious underground headquarters and thoughtful digging in the inventory.Deus Ex graphics are understandably outdated, but such convincing robots are still worth looking for in modern games. And most importantly, Deus Ex, on some magical level, for the first time in the history of game development, combined a deep role-playing game and a dashing first-person shooter.
Deus Ex has more dialogue than some pure RPGs
Rune (2000). Not a word about the modern continuation. Thinking back to the great game of 2000. The cult status of this third-person action game has been brought about by the skilful on-screen incarnation of Scandinavian mythology and history.Viking settlement, architecture, weapons and armor, mythology and bestiary – everything in Rune was saturated with northern flavor. Our hero, a young warrior Ragnar, had to prevent Ragnarok, and on the way to this goal the most interesting thing began – excellent slasher mechanics. Ragnar covered himself with a shield, chopped off the limbs of enemies, knocked over the monsters with a mace and, falling into a frenzy, tore everyone around to natural shreds – the damage system allowed. Rune has seriously influenced the entire slasher genre. The brutality of the combat system will surely appeal to modern gamers who have walked the length and breadth of their beloved God of War.
In a rather lengthy introduction, Ragnar walks through his native village
Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (2000). Many RPG enthusiasts still believe – and most likely will think tomorrow – this game is the best in its genre. There are reasons for this. The continuation surpassed the brilliant original in everything. Feyrun’s world in the Forgotten Realms offered hundreds of hours of handpicked adventure. The story of the division of the inheritance by the descendants of Baal became even more fascinating. The plot took him to incredible places, among which the blazing underworld and the elven city in the trees are the most obvious. But there was also an unforgettable mental hospital for wizards! The scale of the game is staggering today. The number of locations, quests, heroes, items and spells is measured in some fantastic numbers. Freedom is almost complete, one of the first big tasks is short: “Collect the required amount”. And the fate of Yoshimo from your team is still one of the most powerful scenario feints in games. It was in Shadows of Amn that the popular Infinity Engine came out at its best. The amount of detail in the shot was staggering: above the butcher’s counter, for example, one could see climbing flies.
Big, lively, noisy and beautiful Amn, the southern capital. Another advantage of Baldur’s Gate 2
Diablo 2 (2000). The foundations for the appeal of the Diablo series were laid by the very first game. But we decided to remember the second one for several reasons. Diablo 2 features everything that the series is loved to this day at its best. It’s easy-to-learn yet eerily addictive gameplay. It is a mythology of its own, told by a great CGI video. These are different classes, each of which I want to try out. This is a fantastic demon design. But the second part has something that Diablo did not have in the current century. A waterfall fell on the player, even an avalanche of trophies. Yes, there was enough multi-colored useless junk, but it was a pleasure to disassemble the loot and try on all these chain mail and shields on the character’s doll. And pumping Diablo 2 was really difficult: it’s not for nothing that every self-respecting newspaper and magazine about PC games published guides for the development of a paladin or a sorceress. The addictive progress along the winding branches of the pumping deprived of sleep and subdued it no worse than a soul stone.
The Diablo 2 character’s inventory and doll were stealing a soul. In the third part, everything here became more modest
Project I.G.I .: I’m Going In (2000). From cold Norway came one of the most challenging and interesting shooters of the time. Even today, the game has something to captivate. If the story of war criminals and special forces fighters is unlikely to touch a sophisticated player, then the process in Project I.G.I. good and original in its own way. The main part of the missions is sabotage at protected facilities.Stealth is very important. The alarm signal will not lead to the end of the mission, but the matter will become much more complicated, because the hero dies from one or two bullets. However, the enemy too. Hence the special acuteness of the fire engagement. But the main feature of the game is huge, gigantic cards. And the enemy bases themselves are large. Unprecedented tactical depth appears. You can plan an attack in a dozen ways in a hundred directions. Recently, to the delight of fans, the third part of the franchise was announced.
Project I.G.I. notable for well-designed firearms
Hitman : Codename 47 (2000). The most recognizable bald spot in the world of video games flashed in the first game of its series so brightly that this brilliance cannot be hidden even after many years. Codename 47 wasn’t just the start of a franchise. This is a great example of stealth action with an eye for realism and high demands on intelligence. The game has an exemplary mission design – each of them has become a puzzle, elegant, difficult and with several solutions.A miniature sandbox and multiple paths to the goal – this is the formula used by the Danish team to this day; Forty-Seven is not going to retire. The game had really spectacular ragdoll physics, citing movie classics, from “The Godfather” to “Terminator 2”, and the music of Jesper Kyud, who will then write the soundtrack for Assassin’s Creed 2 and many other outstanding things.
Forty-seventh constantly communicated with representatives of the criminal world
This, of course, is not a complete list.Express yourself in the comments which game of previous years is worthy, in your opinion, to be blown off from time to time.

portal
Americans are a sports nation, they love, respect and actively take an interest in sports here. The peculiarities of American culture and lifestyle have led to the existence of American sports, popular and any in the United States (and mentally similar in spirit Canada).Next, we will dwell in more detail on the most American sports – baseball and football (in the local sense of this sport).
It should be noted that both amateur and professional sports are developed in the USA. During the entire period of participation in the Olympic Games, American athletes have won the largest number of medals (over 2,500). Americans are traditionally strong in those sports that are most popular in the country: basketball, hockey, athletics, tennis, swimming, rowing, golf, bowling.
Amateur sports are developed in educational institutions. Teams from schools, colleges and universities battle each other in different sports. High results allow you to apply for increased scholarships in universities. Youth sports are coordinated by the National Collegiate Sports Association, the prototype of which was the Ivy League, which unites 8 of the most popular and prestigious US educational institutions .
The most American sports are baseball, American football, basketball and hockey. In addition, volleyball, water polo, lacrosse (an exclusively American team game), golf, frisbee, motor sports and so on are popular. Swimming, athletics and boxing are leading in non-team sports.
The above “Big Four” of the most popular sports are the most profitable. The matches of your favorite teams in football, baseball, hockey and basketball are held with full stands and bring maximum income. They coordinate the activities of the league teams, whose abbreviations are known throughout the world: NFL (National Football League), NBA (National Basketball League), NHL (National Hockey League) and MLB (Major League Baseball). It is worth noting that football in the United States is understood as an American version of this sport, which is completely different from the team game familiar to Europeans. The Americans call football known to us as soccer.
American Football
An exclusively American sport, which in the United States is called football, received huge support from fans. American football is played by the maximum number of students in schools and colleges. Among fans, he is popular with 40% of viewers of popular sports TV channels.
American football is played on a field that measures 109.7 x 48.7 meters. The field is divided into several zones, the outermost of which are called goal lines and scoring zones. The opposite edges of the scoring zones have a kind of slingshot-shaped gate, the crossbar of which is located at a height of 3 meters from the ground and has a width of 6 meters. By the way, student teams play on a field with gates that are larger than professional ones.
The essence of the game is to earn the maximum number of points that are awarded for certain situations. The oval ball used to play American football can be brought into the opponent’s scoring area and receive a maximum of 6 points for this, this is called a touchdown. You can score the ball into the goal and get 3 points (field goal). For stopping the attacking team in their scoring zone, they receive 2 points (safety). By the way, after the touchdown, the attacking team has the opportunity to get a few more points. To do this, you must either kick the ball into the goal and get 1 point (extrapoint), or again make a touchdown, starting a new attack from a distance of 2 yards from the end zone, for this they give 2 points.
The total duration of the match is 1 hour. This time is divided into two equal parts, which, in turn, are further divided in two. In each of the quarters, the teams take turns acting as attackers and defenders. The beginning of the game, as well as its second half, is a kick on an oval ball (“kickoff”). The kick is taken from 35 yards (32 meters) towards the opposing team’s scoring area. The essence of the game is to move the ball towards the opponent’s goal, while holding the ball in the hands, it should not touch the ground. The team has four attempts, for which it is necessary to get as close as possible to the opponents’ scoring zone.
A total of 11 people from each team with their own specifications participate in the game. American football is a very tough sport in which, however, it is not just brute strength that plays a big role, but certain strategies and tactics.
Baseball
Baseball vies with American football for the title of the most played team game in the United States. Bats and a special ball are used for the game. The essence of the game of baseball boils down to the collection of the maximum number of points. Points are awarded after the player returns to the starting point, having successively visited the remaining corners of the square, the so-called bases. Each team has 9 players and is on offense and defense in each period.
The ball is served on the field by a special player, the “pitcher”, who throws it to the “catcher”. These two players belong to the defensive team. The offensive player, the batter, seeks to batter the ball out of bounds when serving. When hitting the ball, the player runs to one of the bases, depending on the success of the hit. After getting home, the batter becomes the runner, and the next player takes his place.
A team playing on the defensive has all the players on the field who are trying to prevent the batter (they catch a bounced ball, try to throw the ball to their player before the opponent hits the base). The rules of the game may sound complicated, but in the United States, literally everyone understands them.
American football and baseball are played by both professional teams led by their respective leagues and amateur teams run by the National University Sports Association.American sports, especially popular in the United States, do not end with baseball and American football. Frisbee, lacrosse, basketball and hockey popular all over the world, cycling, rowing and many others are in demand. In general, the Americans, contrary to popular belief, are a very athletic and healthy nation.
90,000 Olympic final. What will the last days of the Tokyo Games be like for the Russians?

In the conditions of athletic losses, the ROC team is unlikely to end the Games with a powerful medal spurt, which the Russian national team often did in past Olympiads.Nevertheless, the last three days in Tokyo 2020 promise to be very interesting and relatively fruitful for our team.

On Friday, the attention of fans of guaranteed victories will be focused on rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimmers’ performances. The latter have already pleased them in a duet, now it is the turn of group drawings on the water. Qualification will take place in Tokyo today, and the final will take place tomorrow.
Qualification in the individual all-around awaits today and the “artists”, the “group” will be selected tomorrow. For the former, the final will take place on Saturday, for the latter, on the last day of the Tokyo Olympics. And if, following the results of these competitions, three more gold medals are not added to the ROC, experts will be very surprised.
Those sports fans who prefer a sharp rivalry “from the knife” will be able to focus on wrestling and boxing. In freestyle wrestling, medals in six categories will be played in recent days. The main Russian favorites here are Gadzhimurad Rashidov (up to 65 kg), and Abdulrashid Sadulayev (97 kg). And, of course, Zaurbek Sidakov, who confidently reached the final yesterday (up to 74 kg).
In boxing, during this period, their owners will receive as many as nine sets of awards. When it is early Friday morning in the central part of Russia, the Russian finalist in the weight category up to 91 kg Muslim Gadzhimagomedov will enter the ring, and Zenfira Magomedalieva, who is tipped for Olympic gold, will be beaten in the semifinals in the women in the category up to 75 kg in the semifinals with the Chinese woman Li Qian.
In athletics, 15 sets of medals will be played over the past three days, but most of the competitions are held without the participation of Russians. Our ten track and field athletes turned out to be not so great, and in addition, they are also haunted by injuries and setbacks. Here is the three-time world champion in high jump Maria Lasitskene, who for several years had no equal in the world, a few months before the start of the Olympics, she was injured and is clearly not in the best shape. However, she has no character, and the fans will still worry about our main star in this sport. It is always interesting to follow the modern pentathlon, where our athletes also fight for high places.
And, of course, playing sports promise a bright spectacle, especially the Saturday volleyball final, where the team of Tuomas Sammelvuo with four Zenit players in the squad after a heroic victory over the Brazilians looks like a favorite. Today, attention is paid to handball – our Rio 2016 champions will try again to cope with the powerful Norwegians, and then, whatever the outcome, you can cheer for them on Sunday – in the bronze medal match or in the final.
Interesting and two Saturday finals without the participation of Russian teams. The decisive match of the basketball tournament with the participation of American stars from the NBA is traditionally considered one of the main events of the Olympics, and here, in addition, it promises intrigue – at the preliminary stage, the Americans lost to the French. And the football final can give St. Petersburg an Olympic champion – for the Brazilian national team, we recall, is played by Zenit player Malcolm, who is steadily replacing at this tournament.
Note that it is Saturday that will accommodate most of the interesting events – for some reason, the organizers in the main team sports preferred to stage men’s finals on Saturday, and women’s finals on Sunday. In these conditions, the last day of the Games (and for us this morning) does not look so intriguing. However, in any case, the closing ceremony will remain for a snack …
