The Key Players to Watch on the 2023 Syracuse Lacrosse Team
With the 2023 college lacrosse season underway, all eyes are on the Syracuse Orange as they look to make another run at a national championship. Led by head coach Gary Gait in his second season, this Syracuse squad is stacked with talent across the field. Let’s take a look at some of the key players to watch on the Orange this spring.
Owen Hiltz – Attack
The Canadian sharpshooter is back for his senior season after leading Syracuse in points last year. Hiltz possesses a lethal shot both inside and out, with the ability to dodge and finish in tight or strike from range with accuracy. His field vision and passing ability make him a triple-threat nightmare for opposing defenses. Look for Hiltz’s leadership and experience to also be an asset for the Orange attack unit.
Joey Spallina – Attack
A highly touted freshman, Spallina enters his rookie campaign with sky-high expectations. His athleticism and offensive creativity have drawn comparisons to Syracuse legends like Mike Powell and Dylan Donahue. Speedy and shifty with the ball, Spallina is a dodging wizard who can isolation defenders and create his own shot. He’ll pair with Hiltz to form one of the most potent attack duos in the country.
Brendan Curry – Midfield
The do-it-all senior midfielder will quarterback Syracuse’s offense in transition and serve as a leader overall. A shifty dodger with underrated finishing ability, Curry excels at breaking down defenses with his speed and vision. He’s also a force at the faceoff X and a reliable presence defensively. Curry has the complete skill set to dominate games from box to box.
Griffin Cook – Faceoff
The X-factor for Syracuse this year might be at the faceoff dot. After losing stalwart specialist Jakob Phaup, the Orange will look to Cook in his sophomore season to step up. He showed flashes as a FOGO (face off, get off) specialist last year but will need to improve his consistency facing top ACC competition. If Cook can up his win rate and give Syracuse more possessions, it could make their already dangerous offense even tougher to stop.
Bobby Gavin – Defense
Anchoring Syracuse’s back line is the savvy fifth-year senior Gavin. A tough and rangy defender blessed with quick feet, Gavin excels at neutralizing top attackmen with his stick skills and positioning. He’ll be tasked with taking down the ACC’s best while also providing leadership for the defense overall. Gavin’s presence and experience in Syracuse’s defensive end will be crucial.
Will Mark – Goalie
In the crease, Mark returns for his third year as Syracuse’s starting netminder. He put up strong numbers during the Orange’s Final Four run last season,Stopping over 60% of shots. Mark plays an athletic and aggressive style, coming out to challenge shooters while tracking the ball well on the move. He’ll need to come up big in pressure spots for Syracuse to reach championship weekend again. If Mark can shine, he’ll give the Orange defense a huge lift.
With these stars leading the charge, Syracuse has the talent in place to make another championship run this spring. Their attacking potency combines with athleticism in the midfield and experience across the board. Of course, capturing that elusive 12th national title won’t come easy in the gauntlet of the ACC. Rivalry matchups with Virginia, Duke and Notre Dame will prove must-see events.
For lacrosse fans, there’s nothing quite like witnessing these storied programs and top-tier talents battle it out. The electric atmosphere of the Carrier Dome reaches a fever pitch for big Syracuse games. What’s the best way to experience the action in person? Get your Syracuse lacrosse tickets today!

When Does Syracuse Lacrosse Season Start and Key Matchups to See
With over a dozen national championships and a rabid fan base, Syracuse lacrosse is an institution unlike any other in college sports. The Orange have cemented their status as one of the premier programs year after year. When does the action get underway in 2023? And which marquee games should fans circle on their calendars? Let’s break it down.
Syracuse Lacrosse Schedule
The Orange open their season on Saturday, February 4th at home against Army. This kicks off a 13-game regular season slate culminating in the ACC Tournament from April 27-30. Syracuse secured the top seed in the conference tourney last year during their run to Championship Weekend. They’ll look to replicate that success in 2023.
Some key dates for Cuse fans:
- February 25th – at Johns Hopkins
- March 4th – vs Virginia
- March 11th – at Duke
- March 25th – vs Notre Dame
- April 15th – at North Carolina
- April 29th – vs Notre Dame
The full schedule provides plenty of intrigue, but these matchups against historical rivals and ACC powers stand out as must-see events. The games against Johns Hopkins, Virginia, Duke and Notre Dame will go a long way in determining Syracuse’s conference and national standing.
Non-Conference Clashes
While ACC contests garner much of the attention, some early season non-conference games will also prove to be critical tests. The opener against Army on February 4th will provide an immediate challenge from a disciplined and defensively stout opponent.
Of course, the highlight of Syracuse’s non-conference slate comes a few weeks later at Johns Hopkins. These two lacrosse bluebloods have played annually since 1983, with their battles often deciding NCAA Tournament seeding and at-large bids. This year’s matchup on February 25th at Homewood Field will be a barnburner.
Home ACC Battles
Within the rigors of ACC play, Syracuse will fortunately get several of their toughest matchups in the comfy confines of the Carrier Dome. The Dome provides one of the best atmospheres in the sport, especially for marquee games.
The first such opportunity comes March 4th versus Virginia. The Cavaliers entered last season as title favorites before the Orange ousted them in the semifinals. UVA will seek vengeance in this early season tone-setter.
Later in March, the Irish come to town on the 25th. Notre Dame eliminated Cuse from Championship Weekend last year, adding fuel to this budding rivalry. How the Orange fare against them could determine ACC supremacy.
Road Tests
While home games provide an advantage, winning on the road is also critical for top-tier teams. Syracuse will have some chances to prove their mettle as visitors.
On March 11th they’ll head to Duke in another rematch of a 2022 tournament matchup. The Blue Devils have bounced back as a contender behind a reloaded offense. Syracuse overcoming their athleticism in Cameron Indoor will be pivotal.
In mid April, the Orange visit North Carolina. The Tar Heels reached last year’s National Championship and return the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. To capture the conference, Cuse must pass this gut check in Chapel Hill.

Don’t limit yourself to just one resale site. Check out all the major marketplaces like StubHub, Vivid Seats, SeatGeek, Ticketmaster and even Craigslist. Compare ticket listings and prices across the sites.
Certain sites may have more ticket inventory for specific games. Cast a wide net across multiple platforms to find the most options.
Create Alerts
Most ticket sites allow you to create custom alerts for the Syracuse lacrosse games you want. Set up alerts and you’ll get notified any time new tickets are posted for sale.
Alerts help you jump on newly available tickets before anyone else. You can set specific filters like number of tickets and price range too.
Check Constantly
The resale market is always fluctuating, with new ticket listings popping up frequently. Don’t just check once. Check sites repeatedly in the days and weeks leading up to the game.
New tickets trickle in over time. Persistence and repetition in your search improves your odds of scoring seats.
Wait Until Last Minute
Unlike buying direct, waiting until the last minute can pay off big when buying resale. As game day approaches, sellers drop prices to unload tickets.
Keep checking for rock-bottom prices even the day before or day of the game. Just be prepared to move fast when deals appear.
Bid on Auctions
Some sites like eBay allow bidding wars on tickets. Enter your max bid and let the auction play out. Often you can win tickets for less than “Buy Now” prices if you’re willing to take a risk.
Just be sure to have a backup plan in case you get outbid.
Negotiate Deals
Don’t be afraid to negotiate. Reach out to sellers and make an offer, especially if tickets have been sitting for a while. Many sellers will accept a fair offer just to get tickets sold.
You have nothing to lose by naming your price and asking for a discount.
Avoid Scams
Unfortunately, scams are a risk with resale tickets. Do your homework on sellers. Read reviews, ratings, and feedback. Buy from reputable sellers with long histories.
Also beware of prices that seem too good to be true. That’s a red flag for a scam.
Read the Fine Print
Before buying, scrutinize listing details. Know exactly what you’re buying. Confirm it includes the full game, section/row/seat numbers, and avoids obstructed views.
Know the seller’s policies too. How are tickets delivered? Are they transferable? What guarantees are offered?
Use Safe Payment
Never wire direct payments or pay with unusual methods. Use secure options like credit cards. If paying cash in-person, meet in safe, public locations.
Legit sellers will have no issue with standard payment methods. Anything fishy could signal a scam.
With high demand and limited supply, scoring resale Syracuse lacrosse tickets takes effort and diligence. Following these tips will help you track down seats at the price you want. See you in the Dome!

The Syracuse Lacrosse Rivalry with Notre Dame – How to Get Tickets
Looking to experience an epic lacrosse matchup this season? The rivalry between the Syracuse Orange and Notre Dame Fighting Irish has become one of the hottest tickets in college lacrosse. With both programs boasting storied histories and passionate fan bases, these showdowns at the Carrier Dome deliver thrilling NCAA action. Here’s a guide on the history of this great rivalry and how to score tickets to the next Syracuse vs. Notre Dame lacrosse game.
Origin of the Rivalry
Syracuse and Notre Dame have been battling on the lacrosse field since the 1980s. But the animosity hit new heights when both joined the ACC in 2013, pitting the teams against each other annually as conference foes.
Close, heated matchups between the two proud programs have only intensified the rivalry over the past decade. With ACC and national bragging rights on the line every year, these games have become must-see events.
Legendary Moments
The Syracuse-Notre Dame rivalry has produced many unforgettable NCAA Tournament moments. In 2008, the Orange mounted a miraculous 4-goal comeback in the final minute to stun the Irish 10-9 in OT in the first round. A brawl broke out following the devastating loss for Notre Dame.
In 2019, Syracuse avenged their only regular season loss by defeating Notre Dame 16-10 in the ACC Championship game. The Irish got payback in the 2021 ACC finals, edging out the Orange in overtime 11-10.
Record Crowds
Given the prestige of the matchup, Syracuse vs. Notre Dame lacrosse continually shatters attendance records in the massive Carrier Dome. In 2017, an NCAA on-campus regular season record crowd of 30,870 watched Syracuse hold on for a 12-11 win.
The 2019 ACC Championship duel drew a total of 31,528 fired up fans, setting a conference tournament mark that still stands today.
Getting Tickets
With demand sky high, getting tickets to see Syracuse take on Notre Dame requires preparation and persistence. As soon as the schedule comes out, make sure to check ticket availability on the Syracuse Athletics website. Sign up for ticket alerts too.
Given the small visiting allotment, buying directly from Notre Dame can be tough. Resale sites offer the next best option for Notre Dame fans seeking seats.
Expect to pay a premium price on the secondary market for this coveted matchup, especially later in the season. But for the chance to experience this epic lacrosse rivalry live, it’s well worth it.
The Future
As both the Orange and Irish continue chasing ACC and NCAA glory every year, this budding lacrosse rivalry will only grow. Each time Syracuse and Notre Dame take the field, the competition is fierce, the crowds are raucous, and the emotions are high.
By securing your tickets and witnessing the energy firsthand, you’re guaranteed to be part of a memories that will last a lifetime. Let’s hope the action lives up to the hype!
Syracuse’s Competition in the ACC Conference This Season
Looking to experience an epic lacrosse matchup this season? As a member of the competitive ACC conference, the Syracuse Orange face a gauntlet of talented opponents in their quest for a league title. With perennial powers like Duke, North Carolina, Virginia and Notre Dame also vying for supremacy, Syracuse’s road will be challenging. Here’s a look at the key competition the Orange will battle in ACC play.
Duke
The Duke Blue Devils remain one of Syracuse’s chief adversaries both in the ACC and lacrosse as a whole. Duke has won three national titles since 2010 and will contend again behind a loaded offense led by senior attackman Joe Robertson.
In their only meeting last season, Syracuse blitzed Duke 21-9 in Durham. But with the Blue Devils seeking vengeance, this always hard-fought rivalry will be must-see TV.
North Carolina
North Carolina and Syracuse have engaged in several classic matchups recently, including an ACC semifinal thriller won by the Orange in overtime last season. The Tar Heels return eight of their top ten scorers, making them a real threat.
With the tobacco road crowd amped up, Syracuse’s early April trip to Chapel Hill will be no cakewalk as UNC tries to even the season series.
Virginia
As another ACC lacrosse blueblood, Virginia is always circled on Syracuse’s schedule. Virginia’s physical, smothering defense will test the Orange attack. And sensational Cavaliers’ goalie Matthew Moore shut out Syracuse in the second half last year.
This late April Friday night showdown under the Dome lights will have major implications in the ACC standings down the stretch.
Notre Dame
Syracuse versus Notre Dame has blossomed into one of college lacrosse’s top new rivalries since both joined the ACC. The Irish are stacked again, with Preseason All-American attacker Eric Dobson leading the charge.
Given the game’s gravitas, late April’s matchup of top ten teams could serve as a de facto ACC championship game. Get your tickets early.
Other Contenders
While not on Syracuse’s schedule, ACC foes like defending national champ Virginia and runner-up Maryland will challenge for the conference too. Upstart programs like Boston College and Rutgers are also on the rise.
With competition stiff from top to bottom, Syracuse must bring their A-game against a murderer’s row of ACC opponents. Playing in the sport’s toughest conference, a title would be well-earned. Let’s go Orange!
Will 2023 Be Another Championship Season for Syracuse Lacrosse?
Looking to experience an epic lacrosse matchup this season? With 11 national championships in their illustrious history, the Syracuse Orange have established themselves as one of college lacrosse’s premier programs. After falling just short of a title in 2022, can the Orange recapture glory and hoist the trophy in 2023?
Last Season’s Run
Syracuse entered last postseason with momentum after winning the ACC tournament. Seeded third overall in the NCAA Tournament, they blazed through early round wins over Vermont and Princeton to reach Championship Weekend.
In the national semifinals, Syracuse avenged a regular season loss by defeating Virginia in a classic. But in the championship, four-time defending champ Maryland proved too much, ending Syracuse’s bid.
Who’s Back
Despite losing key contributors like goalie Bobby Gavin, Syracuse returns a loaded roster. Headlining is senior attackman Chase Scanlan, an offensive wizard and Tewaaraton Award frontrunner. He leads a host of returning starters.
With much of last year’s depth back, experience won’t be an issue. And sensational freshman recruits join the fold ready to make an instant impact.
The Schedule
Syracuse once again faces a brutal gauntlet of ACC and non-conference foes. Their slate includes perennial powers like Duke, Virginia, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame and Ivy League champ Yale.
Navigating this treacherous schedule unscathed will test Syracuse’s resolve. But a strong showing positions them well come tournament time.
The Competition
The usual suspects like Maryland, Virginia, Duke, Penn State and Cornell will also contend for the 2023 title. But Syracuse matches up well talent-wise with any team.
In the ACC, newcomers like North Carolina and Rutgers aim to challenge Syracuse for conference supremacy and an automatic bid.
Intangibles
With legends like Gary Gait and Ric Beardsley coaching, Syracuse has the wisdom and experience needed to make a championship run. And the Dome atmosphere provides a true home-field advantage.
After last year’s heartbreak, Syracuse is surely hungry and motivated for another shot at glory. Count them out at your own peril.
Thanks to their systemic consistency, 2023 looks bright for Syracuse lacrosse. Come May, don’t be surprised if the Orange are once again hoisting that elusive 12th national championship trophy.
Reliving the Glory of Past Syracuse Lacrosse National Titles
Looking to experience an epic lacrosse matchup this season? The storied history of Syracuse men’s lacrosse is decorated with 11 national championships. Some of the greatest teams and players to ever take the field powered the Orange to supremacy across different eras. Let’s reminisce on Syracuse’s past NCAA lacrosse crowns.
1983 Title
Syracuse broke through for their first championship in 1983 behind the stellar play of superstars Gary and Paul Gait. The undefeated Orange dominated all season long, capping it with a 17-16 triumph over Johns Hopkins to claim the title.
The 1983 squad is considered one of the greatest ever. Gary Gait was named tournament Most Outstanding Player for his dominating play.
1988 Title
Riding high off their ’83 championship, Syracuse picked up right where they left off by securing another undefeated season and national title in 1988. Syracuse took down Cornell 13-8 in the finals.
Gary Gait again starred by setting an NCAA tournament record with 26 points across the two final games, earning consecutive MOP honors.
1989 Title
The Gait brothers led Syracuse to their third championship in seven seasons with yet another unblemished 1989 campaign. The Orange demolished Johns Hopkins 13-8 in the finals as Paul Gait scored four goals.
The Gaits finished their illustrious careers with three rings apiece, cementing their legacies.
1990 Title
Proving they could win without the Gaits, unseeded Syracuse stunned everyone in 1990 by gutting out five one-goal wins en route to the title. Tom Marechek’s overtime goal lifted Syracuse past Loyola for the repeat.
After losing the Gaits to graduation, this shock championship validated Syracuse as a burgeoning dynasty.
1993 Title
Syracuse added another trophy to their case in 1993 thanks to mammoth contributions from stars Charlie Lockwood, Dom Fin, and Roy Colsey. The Orange avenged the previous year’s loss by defeating North Carolina 13-12.
This championship launched Syracuse into the 90s on a wave of momentum.
The storied history of Syracuse lacrosse is filled with triumphant championship runs cementing their elite status. Reliving the glory days reminds us why the Orange remain such a coveted ticket.
