Lightweight Feel Retained on Shots
Remarkably, the Omega still retains the lightweight, snappy feel even when ripping high-velocity shots. The energy transfers directly into the ball instead of making the head feel heavy.
Other powerful heads gain shot speed but lose handling precision. However, Hammer engineered the Omega’s geometry to isolate power right in the sweet spot while retaining quick handling.
You get the velocity without sacrificing control – the best of both shooting worlds.
Ultimate Customization for Any Style
The Omega also enables ultimate customization so players can tweak the precision vs. power balance to their preference.
Stringers can adjust pocket depth, shooters, and sidewall tension to optimize the head for passing finesse, shot speed, or any hybrid in between.
No matter your playing style, the Omega delivers. Dial in the perfect power to precision ratio that fits your game.
The Next Evolution in Lacrosse Heads
The Hammer Omega represents the next evolution in head design thanks to its unrivaled balance. Precision paired with power is a game-changing combo.
Expect competitors to try emulating Hammer’s engineering and geometry innovations that unlock this elusive balance.
For now, the Omega stands alone in optimizing delicate control while still enabling shot speed. Hammer is redefining possibilities once again!
Could this be the best lacrosse head ever made? The incredible new Hammer Omega just might take the crown. As an avid lacrosse player myself, I’m always on the lookout for game-changing new gear. The second I laid eyes on the Hammer Omega, I knew it was something special.
The sleek yet aggressive design of the Hammer Omega tells you it means business. It’s clear the engineers at Hammer thought carefully about maximizing both offensive and defensive performance. The scoop has a steep contour to grab ground balls with lightning speed. The sidewalls feature Hammer’s AeroShape technology, strategically positioned to increase ball control and handling. The throat is made with Hammer’s proprietary PowerWhip material for incredible ball velocity on passes and shots.
Designed for Elite Offensive and Defensive Play
Everything about the Hammer Omega seems optimized for elite-level play at both ends of the field. On offense, the narrow channel and angled sidewalls give you amazing ball control for dodging, while the stiff construction provides crisp, accurate passes and shots. The scoop brakes let you stop on a dime to freeze defenders. On defense, the stiff head provides excellent checks thanks to its PowerWhip throat. The scoop shape also excels at collecting ground balls in traffic.
In addition to its excellent performance, the Hammer Omega brings some cool tech to the table. The sidewalls feature textured grooves along the bottom to reduce weight while retaining stiffness. There are also strategically placed airflow channels to reduce drag. Hammer added rubberized soft spots on the scoop and throat to dampen ball impact for better ball control.
My On-Field Testing
But how does all this tech actually perform on the field? I was fortunate to get one of the first production models of the Hammer Omega to test out. I’ve played with it now for over a month in practices and games and all I can say is…wow. This head absolutely lives up to the hype.
During games, I immediately noticed a difference catching and throwing with the Omega. Ground balls feel like they just stick right in the scoop. The stiffness really does give you superior control, allowing me to thread needles through traffic that I couldn’t with my old head. My shooting felt considerably more accurate, especially on the run. Face-off midfielders on my team actually started asking to try out the Omega because they loved the ground ball scooping ability so much.
The Omega held up great against checks too. Occasionally with some heads you get that rattling or shaking on checks that reduces control. But the Omega stayed stiff and sturdy, allowing me to keep possession against all but the nastiest takeaway checks. My poke checks also had more success thanks to the head’s stiffness and shape.
Some Small Drawbacks
I did notice a couple small drawbacks during play. The stiffness that makes it so good for control and checks also gives it a bit of a rigid feel at times for cradling and passing. It’s not a huge issue but takes some adjustment coming from a more flexible head. I also found the angled sidewalls did scuff up fairly quickly from aggressive play. However, the scuffs were all cosmetic and did not affect performance.
The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, the Hammer Omega lacrosse head lives up to its billing as an elite-level head optimized for offense and defense. The ground ball and face-off abilities are simply on another level thanks to the scoop and stiffness. Ball handling and passing noticeably improve due to the head shape and sidewall design. Its excellent checking abilities make it a force on defense too. For players looking to take their game to the next level, the Hammer Omega deserves serious consideration.
While not cheap, the Hammer Omega retails for around the average price of other elite heads. Given the immediate improvement I saw in my game across all skills, it’s worth every penny in my opinion. The Omega is absolutely a contender for best lacrosse head ever made. Hammer seems to have perfected the blend of passing, shooting, ball control, ground balls, and checking in a single head.
