Skill Enhancement Through Intense Play

- Stick skills: The confined space and constant action result in more frequent ball touches, improving handling and control.
- Shooting accuracy: Smaller goals force players to develop precision in their shots.
- Defensive footwork: The fast-paced, close-quarters nature of the game hones defensive positioning and reactions.
- Lacrosse IQ: Quick decision-making is essential in the box, helping players develop a deeper understanding of the game.
These skills translate directly to success in field lacrosse, giving box-trained players a significant advantage.
Testimonials from Elite Coaches
The value of box lacrosse is echoed by some of the most respected names in college lacrosse:
“If I had my choice, I would have every player under the age of 12 play box lacrosse exclusively or at least a majority of the time. The number of touches of the ball and the ability to develop better stick skills in a game of box lacrosse far surpasses what happens on a field.”
– Bill Tierney, 6X NCAA Championship Coach, University of Denver
“I think all young kids should play box first.”
– John Desko, Syracuse University Men’s Lacrosse
These endorsements from top-tier coaches underscore the importance of box lacrosse in developing well-rounded players, a philosophy that Yetis Lacrosse fully embraces.

14U Qualifies for IMG
U14 Yetis take second place at the Pacific Open Lacrosse Championships in Burlington, WA and qualify for the IMG Nationals in Florida, falling in the ship to Time Bandits 9-7. The team notched big wins over OP Rosies out of Bainbridge Island, a 4 down rally to take a tie with 10 seconds left in the game to NW Titans and an arguable “upset” victory over Steelhead Lacrosse in the semis who looked like they suited up grown men. Great Job!

Why Play Box?
Play Box, Get Better
I think all young kids should play box first.
– Coach John Desko, Syracuse University Men’s Lacrosse
Stick Skills, Lacrosse IQ and Decision Making, More Touches, Off-Ball Movement, Faster Play, Everybody Plays Defense, Shooting Accuracy 4×4 goals instead of 6×6.
6X NCAA Championship Coach Bill Tierney, University of Denver:
“If I had my choice, I would have every player under the age of 12 play box lacrosse exclusively or at least a majority of the time. The number of touches of the ball and the ability to develop better stick skills in a game of box lacrosse far surpasses what happens on a field. Learning how to pass and catch in traffic, understanding how to shoot, and developing a sense of physicality are all positive traits developed by the box game.”
MLL/NLL All-Star Paul Rabil:
“Being a part of the finesse and physicality of box lacrosse has been a great experience for me. I feel that I have learned and improved as an overall lacrosse player. Learning to adapt in tight space while reading defenders and offensive players has been the biggest improvement in my game.”
4x NCAA Championship Coach Dom Starsia, University of Virginia:
“When you watch Canadian kids score, when you see their skill level around the cage, you wonder to yourself, ‘Jeez, are we teaching kids [in the U.S.] the wrong things?”
MLL/NLL All-Star Casey Powell:
“I knew that if I wanted to be one of the best players in the world, I would have to dedicate myself to both the indoor and the outdoor game. Playing indoor lacrosse has been a great thing for my career.”
