Why did the NFL and Eagles adopt the clear bag policy?
The league and clubs review their public safety and stadium security policies every year looking for ways to improve. The Committee on Stadium Security and Fan Conduct leads this review and obtains a wide range of information to assist in doing so. The committee strongly believed that it made sense to adjust our policy to enhance public safety and make stadium access more efficient by limiting the size and style of bags carried into the stadium. The public deserves to be in a safe, secure environment. This is about both safety and improving the overall fan experience.
Are other events and stadiums limiting bags?
Yes. In fact, some like the University of Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State University do not permit any bags, while the TD Garden in Boston only permits clutch bags. The metal detector screenings of all individuals entering NFL stadiums provide an additional level of safety for fans.
How does the clear bag policy improve public safety?
The clear bag is easily and quickly searched and greatly reduces faulty bag searches. It also supports the Department of Homeland Security’s ‘If You See Something, Say Something’ campaign.
How does the clear bag policy make it more convenient for fans?

Are there limitations for bringing a sign into the stadium?
Yes, signs must be no larger than 18”x24”. Please note, some events outside of football games may enforce different size limitations. Signs may not be attached to a stick or pole that is any longer than 12”. Additionally, signs, banners or similar items that are obscene or indecent, not event-related, potentially offensive to other patrons, capable of blocking the views of other fans or otherwise deemed dangerous or inappropriate by the Eagles are prohibited. They may not contain commercial messages, logos or political endorsements and may not be hung on the stadium structure. Signs constructed of wood or metal material, are also not permitted. Not exactly a steam locomotive, but a water carrier for himself
Diesel locomotives, even virtual road locomotives used in computer game simulators, use thermal diesel engines. But American engineers and craftsmen, lovers of steam automotive technology crossed a six-wheeled SUV with a tank truck and put a thermal steam piston engine – a steam engine on the resulting hybrid. The road steam locomotive (rutier – obsolete) of the 21st century was called the LocoHawk (Loco Hauk).
Unique in its kind and already world-famous among connoisseurs of steam transport, the Loco Hauk wheeled hybrid, which transports off-road water exclusively for its own needs, was built by Kenny Hawk with like-minded people from the state of Pennsylvania. This steam masterpiece of almost cargo wheeled vehicles, no doubt, will take its rightful place in the history of the automotive industry, like the classic steam trucks known to this day: the domestic NAMI-012 of the late 1940s, the English Sentinel and Foden 1930s.
Why did the creators of the strange freighter Loco Hauk need it? Just for the soul! Or maybe such an exotic auto-steam locomotive has really practical prospects? Let’s try to figure this out.
Design Features
It goes without saying that the steam power plant and everything connected with it deserves special attention in the design of the self-propelled steam engine (steam boiler) Loco Hauk on the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2008 wheeled chassis. Here it is appropriate to note that the transport steam boilers, which generate water vapor to power mainly the traction engine, can be of two fundamentally different designs, if, when considering them, we restrict ourselves to the mentioned classic steam trucks.
Boiler of classic locomotive (locomobile) type, fire-tube horizontal low pressure (about 16 bar, if we talk about the Foden boiler) makes an automobile vehicle look like a real steam locomotive. This is easily seen from the appearance of the Foden steam truck.
High-pressure water-tube vertical steam boiler (19–25 bar, if we talk about Sentinel and NAMI-012 boilers, respectively) is a completely different thing. It is hidden, for example, under the hood, so such a boiler may not be visible. Will give out only a chimney. Boilers of this type are more compact and have better performance in terms of specific heat output per unit mass than their locomotive predecessors.
Loco Hauk’s steam boiler and water tank are located in the body of the base SUV for conversion. An improvised cistern serves as a casing that hides all this economy. The water reserve is about 200 liters. Here, under a tank-like casing, there is also a 60-liter fuel tank filled with kerosene. By the way, nothing fundamentally prevents the use of more environmentally friendly liquid biofuels (for example, the most promising biodiesel fuel from fast-growing algae), thereby increasing the purity of the combustion process and flue gases from the steam boiler burner.
An impressive additional load from the boiler unit and the water tank left its mark on the design of the base chassis: a third axle appeared and the length of the entire car increased by 1.3 m. However, the original brakes, drive shafts, differential, axles and six-speed manual transmission were retained. The latter, it is worth noting, now works with one higher, one lower and one reverse gear. On any of them, the wheeled steam miracle starts off well. Springs and shock absorbers provided a body lift of just over 10 cm, which was required due to the installation of wheels with an increased diameter compared to the base ones.
The steam boiler itself is made using two-inch steel pipes (approx. 5 cm diameter) and equipped with a kerosene burner. It was produced specifically for this car at the Babcock & Wilcox company, known for more than 150 years for its steam water-tube boilers, founded by two American inventors, by whose names it got its name. The pumps for supplying the boiler unit with water and, in all likelihood, supplying fuel to the burner are powered by six batteries, which was another reason for installing a third axle and lengthening the car body. The same batteries supply power to the ignition system of the burner.
Keen Steamliner no. 2V V4 (from a passenger car) with a V-shaped arrangement of four cylinders has a power of about 140 hp, located under the hood. It was designed and manufactured around 1960 by Charles Keen from Madison, the capital of Wisconsin (USA). The engine displacement is only 100 cubic meters. inches (about 1.6 L). It is equipped with inlet poppet valves (English), works with one-way pressure (single-acting steam engine) and once-through steam outlet.
The steam engine is high-speed or, as they used to say, high-speed, and has a crankcase design, which is similar to conventional automobile piston internal combustion engines, therefore it is actually a steam engine (steam engine). Keane’s steam engine is similar in appearance to the early 2000s German “near-zero emission engine” for passenger cars, known as the ZEE (Zero Emission Engine) steam engine. For reference: the classic steam engines installed on steamships and the vast majority of steam locomotives were slow-moving. The rotational speed of their output shaft did not exceed 300 rpm.
The steam power plant allows the Loco Hauk to develop very high torque – at the level of 3390 Nm. The maximum speed of the resulting six-ton road steam locomotive on an asphalt road reaches as much as 100 km / h!
Driver’s cab
Now a few words about the interior of the Loco Hauk cab. In it, the driver feels like a full-fledged machinist, partially immersing himself in the locomotive era of pressure gauges, water and steam pipelines, valves and gate valves. It is interesting to note that the driver’s steering wheel in the Loco Hauk cab is located on the left. In a real locomotive booth, the driver’s seat is on the right.
On the one hand, it may seem that the conspicuous large dial gauge on the dashboard inside the Loco Hauk cabin is taken one to one from some 19th century steam locomotive (according to some sources, it is). On the other hand, the frame cleaned to a shine and painted, clear inscriptions on the “dial” suggest a replica (copy), skillfully made based on the locomotive pressure gauge.
The piping and fittings are modern but locomotive style. It is clear that this is done for safety, because the steam is real, it has considerable pressure and temperature. However, there are also preserved original locomotive parts!
The Loco Hauk steam car has a stylish matte black finish with gold leaf painting on parts. This creates a certain external resemblance to American steam locomotives of the 19th century, that is, the times of the Wild West. Inside the cab there is also a similar combination of locomotive colors of this era.
It is interesting to note that the sound signal of the Loco Hauk steam truck is the same as that of a real steam locomotive. If you hear this automobile vehicle somewhere in the thick of city roads, then you can absolutely definitely decide that now a steam locomotive will appear because of the turn.
Puffs, whistles, carries water and…
Having understood some design features of the Loco Hauk steam wheeled freighter with a nostalgic locomotive whistle, we can conclude that this car has, in principle, much more practical potential for application than just a working exhibit, how it is positioned by the creators. True, this can be counted on when establishing mass production of such equipment and the serious design study that precedes this.
The chassis of the considered car is modern, and today the steam power plant can actually be designed in a modern manner: using computer technologies for three-dimensional modeling, development of design and technological documentation, calculations and engineering analysis in terms of heat engineering, hydraulics, strength, economic efficiency. High-quality steels and alloys, heat-resistant composite materials, automation and biofuel technologies will make it possible to embody a combination of lightness, reliability, ease of daily operation and repair, and environmental friendliness in a transport steam power plant. It is advisable to provide a steam condenser (there is no data on its installation at Loco Hauk) to increase the efficiency of the steam power plant, as was repeatedly done on many steam cars of the past.
So what can a Loco Hauk steam freighter be used for in practice? Firstly, directly as a tank truck for transporting liquids or as a fire tank truck. Increased cross-country ability, good speed and the highest torque on the shaft of the traction steam engine, which works on the principle of “turn the wheels while they give steam”, will allow you to quickly get to the most inaccessible places. The boiler unit will, of course, need to be relocated under the hood (a serpentine boiler, by the way, will just fit there) or compactly attached, as was the case with the NAMI-012 steam truck, right behind the cab.
Secondly, the noted traction and speed advantages suggest the use of a wheeled vehicle like Loco Hauk as a mainline tractor. Here you can show even more imagination, although for connoisseurs of special automotive equipment this is an objective reality today, and put such a tractor on a combined road and rail chassis (nowadays known as a locomobile). You will get a road-rail locomobile with steam traction (do not confuse with the classic steam locomobile of the 19th–20th centuries – a single power unit in the form of a boiler and a steam engine mounted on it, mounted on a trailed wheeled chassis). A wheeled trailer or a train with freight cars can be docked to it.
A steam locomobile tractor is also useful for shunting work. In a steam engine, in contrast to a diesel locomotive, the efficiency changes little with frequent operation at partial load. Therefore, when using a steam power plant in the version with a once-through (coil) high-pressure boiler (60–200 bar) and necessarily producing highly superheated steam (about 450–500 ° C), the efficiency at shunting loads may not be lower than that of a diesel locomotive – electrical transmission. Such a steam tractor, as it seems, will definitely be better than a shunting industrial diesel locomotive with a hydromechanical transmission. If necessary, after shunting work at the station, the required cargo can be transported on a trailer using the same steam locomobile tractor along the roads directly to the customer.
Thirdly, as you know, in the first half of the last century, steam trucks were used in some places at night to heat houses, and during the day they delivered goods.
