How did the USA Women’s Lacrosse Team secure their fourth consecutive World Championship title. What factors contributed to their unparalleled success on home soil. Why is fostering international relationships crucial for the growth of lacrosse globally.
The Unstoppable Force: USA Women’s Lacrosse Team’s Gold Medal Victory
The 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship witnessed an extraordinary display of skill, teamwork, and dominance as the USA Women’s Lacrosse Team clinched their fourth consecutive gold medal. This victory not only showcased their unparalleled talent but also marked their first championship win on home soil, adding a special significance to their already impressive legacy.
The team’s performance throughout the tournament was nothing short of spectacular, with an 8-0 run in Pool A contributing to an overall 30-0 winning streak. This level of consistency and excellence raises the question: What makes this particular USA Women’s Lacrosse roster potentially the most dominant ever assembled?
Key Players and Their Contributions
- Kayla: Leadership on and off the field
- Taylor: Competitive spirit and strategic play
- McCool: Exceptional running and endurance
- Ally: Mastery of draw controls
- Charlotte: Precision shooting and goal-scoring ability
Each player brought their unique strengths to the team, creating a synergy that proved unstoppable on the field. Their individual “superpowers” combined to form a cohesive unit that outperformed every opponent they faced.
The Recipe for Success: Coaching and Team Dynamics
Behind every great team is a great coach, and the USA Women’s Lacrosse Team is no exception. Under the guidance of UNC’s coach Jenny Levy and her staff, the team’s potential was maximized to its fullest extent. But what specific factors contributed to their success?
- Effective leadership from the coaching staff
- Players accepting and thriving in their roles
- A well-defined team structure
- Chemistry and camaraderie among team members
- Depth of talent across the roster
The coaching staff’s ability to harness the team’s talent without “screwing it up” speaks volumes about their approach. They created an environment where players could accept their roles and flourish within the team structure, bringing out the best in one another.
Breaking Down the Championship Game: USA vs. Canada
The gold medal match against Canada provided a perfect showcase for Team USA’s abilities. How did the game unfold, and what were the key moments that secured their victory?
In the second quarter, USA took control with a stunning transition goal, pushing the score to 6-2 with 9:18 left before halftime. This play exemplified the American team’s athleticism, teamwork, and love for dynamic, free-flowing lacrosse. Despite Canada’s efforts to close the gap, USA maintained their lead throughout the game.
A crucial moment came at the start of the third quarter when USA scored to make it 7-4, effectively setting the tone for the remainder of the match. Canada fought hard, bringing the score to 11-8 with just 58 seconds left, but USA’s control of the final draw allowed them to run out the clock and secure their victory.
The Impact of Home Advantage and Broadcast Coverage
This World Championship was unique in several aspects. How did playing on home soil and increased broadcast coverage affect the tournament and Team USA’s performance?
Hosting the tournament at Towson University in Maryland provided both advantages and challenges. The familiar environment likely boosted the team’s confidence, but weather delays due to lightning posed potential disruptions. Despite these obstacles, the team remained focused and determined.
The 2022 championship also marked a milestone in terms of media coverage, being the most widely broadcasted World Championships ever. This increased visibility not only showcased the sport to a broader audience but also placed additional pressure on the players to perform at their best.
Venue Analysis: Towson University as the Host
While Towson University offered many benefits as a host venue, it also presented some challenges. What were the pros and cons of this location for the World Lacrosse Championship?
Pros:
- Ample accommodation with on-campus dorms
- Multiple fields for practice and play
- Sufficient parking facilities
Cons:
- Stadium design not ideal for lacrosse viewing
- Distance between stands and playing surface
- Suboptimal camera angles for television coverage
The stadium’s design, with its Olympic track surrounding the field, created a significant distance between spectators and the action. This lack of intimacy, combined with poor sight lines, detracted from the overall viewing experience. Additionally, the standard midfield camera angle used for television broadcasts failed to capture the nuances of women’s lacrosse, which primarily focuses on play around the arcs.
Beyond the Gold: The Importance of International Lacrosse Development
While Team USA’s victory is undoubtedly cause for celebration, the tournament also highlighted an important aspect of international lacrosse: the need for greater support and interaction between established powerhouses like the USA and developing lacrosse nations. How can Team USA contribute to the global growth of the sport?
The USA lacrosse program, both men’s and women’s, has an opportunity to foster stronger relationships with emerging lacrosse nations. By sharing their expertise, conducting clinics, and engaging more closely with teams from countries where lacrosse is still developing, Team USA can play a crucial role in elevating the sport worldwide.
Suggestions for Improving International Lacrosse Relations
- Housing Team USA players closer to other nations during tournaments
- Encouraging USA players and coaches to attend practices and meetings of developing teams
- Providing resources and knowledge to help build lacrosse programs in countries without established youth leagues or college systems
- Organizing clinics and workshops for players and coaches from emerging lacrosse nations
By taking these steps, Team USA can help raise the bar for lacrosse globally, ensuring that their expertise becomes a shared commodity that benefits the entire lacrosse community.
The Future of Women’s Lacrosse: Lessons from the 2022 World Championship
As we reflect on the success of the USA Women’s Lacrosse Team and the 2022 World Championship, what lessons can be drawn to shape the future of the sport? How can the momentum from this tournament be harnessed to drive growth and improvement in women’s lacrosse worldwide?
The dominance displayed by Team USA serves as both an inspiration and a challenge to other nations. It sets a new standard of excellence that can motivate players and programs around the world to elevate their game. However, it also underscores the need for more competitive balance in international lacrosse to ensure the continued growth and excitement of the sport.
Key Areas for Future Development
- Increasing global participation in lacrosse
- Improving coaching and player development programs in emerging lacrosse nations
- Enhancing media coverage and accessibility of international lacrosse events
- Refining tournament formats and rules to encourage competitive balance
- Investing in youth lacrosse programs worldwide
By focusing on these areas, the international lacrosse community can work towards a future where the sport continues to grow in popularity and competitiveness, building on the success and excitement generated by the 2022 World Championship.
Cultivating the Next Generation of Lacrosse Stars
The success of the USA Women’s Lacrosse Team not only cements their place in the sport’s history but also serves as an inspiration for young players around the world. How can this championship victory be leveraged to inspire and develop the next generation of lacrosse talent?
Team USA’s players have demonstrated the highest level of skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their performance provides valuable lessons for aspiring lacrosse players and can be used as a blueprint for player development programs worldwide.
Strategies for Youth Development in Lacrosse
- Implementing mentorship programs pairing national team players with youth lacrosse clubs
- Creating instructional content featuring Team USA players and coaches
- Organizing youth clinics and camps led by championship team members
- Developing a comprehensive curriculum based on Team USA’s training methods
- Establishing exchange programs to bring promising young players from developing nations to train in the USA
By focusing on these initiatives, the lacrosse community can ensure that the inspiration provided by the 2022 World Championship translates into tangible growth and improvement in the sport at all levels.
Technological Advancements in Lacrosse: Lessons from the 2022 Championship
The 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship showcased not only exceptional athleticism but also highlighted areas where technology could further enhance the sport. What technological improvements could be implemented to improve the playing and viewing experience of lacrosse?
One area ripe for innovation is in broadcast technology. The current camera setups often fail to capture the nuances of women’s lacrosse, which primarily focuses on play around the arcs. Implementing more dynamic camera angles and potentially using drone technology could provide viewers with a more immersive and informative watching experience.
Potential Technological Enhancements for Lacrosse
- Advanced analytics systems for real-time performance tracking
- Virtual reality training programs for players and referees
- Smart equipment that provides instant feedback on technique and performance
- Improved goal-line technology for more accurate scoring decisions
- Interactive fan experiences using augmented reality in stadiums
By embracing these technological advancements, lacrosse can not only improve the quality of play but also enhance fan engagement and attract a wider audience to the sport.
The Economic Impact of Hosting International Lacrosse Events
Hosting a major international sporting event like the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship can have significant economic implications for the host city and country. What were the economic benefits of hosting the 2022 championship, and how can future events maximize their positive impact on local economies?
While specific economic data for the 2022 championship may not be readily available, international sporting events typically bring numerous benefits to host locations. These can include increased tourism, job creation, infrastructure improvements, and enhanced global visibility for the host city.
Strategies for Maximizing Economic Benefits of Lacrosse Events
- Developing comprehensive marketing strategies to attract international visitors
- Creating lacrosse-themed tourism packages to extend visitors’ stays
- Partnering with local businesses to offer special promotions during the event
- Investing in sustainable infrastructure that can benefit the community long after the event
- Leveraging media coverage to promote the host city as a tourist destination
By implementing these strategies, future host cities can ensure that international lacrosse events not only celebrate the sport but also provide lasting economic benefits to their communities.
The Role of Mental Preparation in Championship Success
While physical skill and teamwork are crucial elements of success in lacrosse, the mental aspect of the game often plays an equally important role, especially in high-pressure situations like a world championship. How did Team USA’s mental preparation contribute to their gold medal performance?
The USA Women’s Lacrosse Team’s ability to maintain focus and composure throughout the tournament, despite weather delays and the pressure of playing on home soil, speaks volumes about their mental fortitude. Their consistent performance across all matches suggests a strong mental game plan was in place.
Key Aspects of Mental Preparation in Lacrosse
- Visualization techniques for game scenarios
- Stress management and relaxation methods
- Team building exercises to foster trust and communication
- Goal-setting strategies for individual and team objectives
- Mindfulness practices to enhance focus and present-moment awareness
By incorporating these mental preparation techniques into their training regimen, lacrosse teams can improve their performance under pressure and maintain consistency throughout long tournaments.
The Evolution of Women’s Lacrosse: Rule Changes and Their Impact
The sport of women’s lacrosse has undergone significant changes over the years, with rule modifications aimed at improving player safety, increasing the pace of play, and enhancing spectator enjoyment. How have recent rule changes impacted the game, and what potential modifications could further improve the sport?
One notable aspect of international women’s lacrosse is the absence of a shot clock, which can lead to longer possessions and less transitional play. This differs from some domestic leagues and raises questions about the optimal pace of play for the international game.
Recent and Potential Rule Changes in Women’s Lacrosse
- Introduction of free movement after whistle stoppages
- Modifications to stick pocket depth regulations
- Adjustments to the three-second rule for defenders in the 8-meter arc
- Potential implementation of a shot clock in international play
- Possible changes to substitution rules to increase the pace of play
By carefully considering these and other potential rule changes, the governing bodies of lacrosse can continue to evolve the sport, balancing tradition with the needs of modern players and spectators.
USA Wins Gold at Women’s World Lacrosse Championships
Kayla leads. Taylor competes. McCool runs. Ally controls draws. Charlotte shoots. They each brought their super powers. It was a joy to watch. Work is love made visible. USA wins gold at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship.
Their love of the game and each other was apparent in the product they delivered on the field, perhaps the most dominant Team USA Women’s Lacrosse roster ever assembled. Credit the coaching staff under the eye of UNC’s coach Jenny Levy, for not screwing this up. The right ingredients need a chef. If USA played well, and didn’t self-disrupt, they were going to win. They are that much better than the rest. But strange things can happen. Ego’s can get in the way. They didn’t. In fact, they brought out the best in one another. The players accepted their roles, the team structure, and then flourished. That’s what we all got to see.
Team USA had too much talent, too much speed, too much chemistry, and too much depth. Nothing was going to stop them.
USA spurted in front during the second quarter, scoring a gorgeous transition goal to make it 6-2 with 9:18 to go before halftime. Assistant coach Joe Spalling pumped his fist on the far sideline and the bench came to life. From goalie to midfielder to one-more with a layup on the doorstep to finish it, this goal showcased the American’s athleticism, attachment, and thirst for free flowing play. Canada called timeout to settle down, and did. They cut the margin to 6-4 at the break before USA scored to open the third quarter, a key goal, making it 7-4. The red, white, and blue never relinquished the lead. Canada clawed and scratched making it 11-8 with :58 second to play, but USA won the ensuing draw and ran out the clock.
The USA Women’s team won their fourth straight World Lacrosse Championship and ninth overall. It was their first win on home soil. Their 8-0 run in pool A was dominant, now part of a 30-0 run. The players deserve credit for working on their craft on their own in isolation and managing the weather delays during the week in lightning prone Maryland, all without a hiccup. They were first-class role models for young players. They developed chemistry and played team ball in what was the most widely broadcasted World Championships ever.
I swung by Towson University on Saturday to watch portions of the bronze and gold medals finals. The crowd was okay, I’m sure some stayed home with the precipitation and watched the USA vs Canada game live on ESPN2. It was rainy and cloudy but cool at 69 degrees, actually pleasing conditions to run up and down the field. The stadium was half full on the near side with just a spattering of fans on the sideline bleachers. The fans that showed up were passionate, especially the Aussie and England sections during the overtime bronze medal nail biter. They cheered, sang, and rooted all game long.
Towson is an ideal host, with dorms, multiple fields, and ample parking lots, although the stadium isn’t a perfect venue for lacrosse. The field is surrounded by an Olympic track, the stands sit 25 yards from the playing surface. It’s not intimate. The sight lines are dreadful. Bigger isn’t better.
The television cameras up top provide a ‘camera one’ angle at midfield that’s too wide by my standards. Women lacrosse is played exclusively around the arcs. Other than draws, the middle of the field is not where significant action occurs. In international lacrosse, there is no shot clock, which equates to longer possessions and less transitional full field action. Each arc and goal area should have it’s own “camera one”. A lower tight camera at the fifty-yard line that can be used for draws.
I walked away impressed with Saturdays double-header but thinking that something was missing. I strongly believe that Team USA, both the men’s and women lacrosse programs, need to foster a warmer sense of support for the dozens and dozens of nations that idolize them and crave all the help they can get their hands on.
In Netanya, Israel, the USA men’s team did not house near other nations and had limited interactions with the emerging teams that hold them in high esteem and awe. Team USA got in, won, and got out each day. Opportunity lost. They treated it like a business trip. It should be more than that.
Let’s not forget, the USA expertise is a commodity that must be shared and harvested through relationships, connections and time spent with the developing nations. We need USA players and coaches to attend practices, meetings, and supply these lesser powers with the tools to build when they go back home to Hong Kong, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Israel, Mexico, Spain, Latvia and Denmark. Move lacrosse forward with actions off the field that raise the bar for others who don’t have youth leagues, high school programs, a college feeder system, or access to world class coaching that Team USA greatly benefits from.
In sharing this knowledge and building bridges, the modern American professional lacrosse player can also grow his or her brand globally. Make it more than a business trip. Plant seeds that can be grown when your playing days are done.
The goals must be more significant than winning gold or signing autographs along with posing for photos with adoring young fans on the walk to the team bus. That’s transactional. Team USA Lacrosse teams should strive to be transformational. With the Olympics on the horizon, USA Lacrosse programs must continue to invest in the success of other nations, and that doesn’t mean kicking their ass and disappearing into the abyss of the dorms.
For the benefit of the entire lacrosse universe, it’s time for Team USA to start sharing its secret sauce.

Women’s & Men’s Lacrosse is a Ball Sport on the Official Program for The World Games 2022.
HISTORY OF LACROSSE
Lacrosse is a team sport played with a stick and a ball. The purpose of each team is to score by causing the ball to enter the goal of its opponent and to prevent the other team from securing the ball and scoring. The ball is kept in play by being carried, thrown, or batted with the stick, or rolled or kicked in any direction. It is illegal for an opponent to bodycheck another player, and “slashing” of an opponent’s stick with deliberate viciousness results in a foul.
The World Games 2022 will feature six versus six lacrosse, which is played by two teams of six players on a field 70 meters long by 36 meters wide. Games are four quarters of eight minutes in length, with a 30-second shot-clock used upon each team’s possession. A tied score at the end of regulation leads to four-minute periods until a goal is scored to determine the winner.

A gem
May 2023
I’ll be candid. I am not very religious. I had low expectations, but was told this was a must see in La Crosse. I spent 2 and half hours and was so pleasantly surprised! I am in to physical fitness and need meditation due to a stressful career that I have. This really filled the bill. The meditation trail is a little over 2 miles round trip. Lots of nice marble benches. Good incline, and I enjoyed my work out. There is a cafe present if you need a snack. Super friendly and helpful people that did not push any religion to you. It’s located out in the middle of nowhere and I’m told it was farm land at one time. The place is emaculately maintained. It was spring time with lots of flowers to look at. The aroma of Lilac was in the air. There is service you can attend if you so choose. The bells at noon were impressive. They are computer generated. The candle chapel is a great place for a memorable experience. There was no fee although donations are obviously accepted. I’d recommend AAA consider making this place a gem to visit. I think was everyone can find some redeeming qualities here in the world we live in. Enjoy your visit!

This is a must see if you visit LaCrosse. It’s a beautiful Shrine and gorgeous grounds. There is a golf cart ride you can take to the top if you have trouble walking. It is a steep and long trail to the top.

The grounds and cathedral are beautiful. They do offer a cart to transport you up to the cathedral if you can’t make the walk. Thank goodness because I was accompanied by two ladies that have bad knees. The walk would have been too much for them.
Staff and volunteers were very helpful and informative. Thank you for everything you do to make this special peaceful place wonderful!
I will come back again sometime when I can linger and walk the paths and take everything in for a very spiritual experience.

Sacred place
March 2022 • Family vacation
Such an honor to be able to visit the shrine and go to mass. The grounds are beautiful and the church is breathtaking. We recently attended mass with my in-laws and my husband who has stage 4 cancer. We wanted to attend mass together as a family and go to confession. My husband is unable to walk to receive communion so I brought my pyx so I could bring communion back to the pew as I do at our parish. The alter server quietly told me “we don’t do that at this parish.” I received communication and went back to the pew. I pray in the future they are more accommodating to those who can’t physically go to the front of church to receive communion. We do not belong to this parish so some form of communication as to how those with disabilities are to receive would be appreciated. We enjoyed our visit and feel blessed this sacred place is available to visit.
Thank you,
Cathy

CathykA3105PF, thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback! Firstly, please know of our prayers for your family and especially your husband. For future reference, the Shrine is able to make special accommodations for the reception of Holy Communion if notified prior to the start of Mass. Specifically, a Priest would be able to bring Holy Communion to your husband in the pew. However, because the Shrine is not a Parish, it is not possible to distribute the Blessed Sacrament to pilgrims via pyx. Please reach out to us with any further questions regarding this matter. May Saint Peregrine intercede for your Husband, and we hope to welcome you all back on pilgrimage soon.
Blessings, Shrine staff.

It’s a beautiful holy place. I walked up the pilgrimage path a ways and though I’m not a religious person, I do have a degree of faith and felt that this place was a nice spot for contemplation, until I got to the Memorial for Unborn Children. Firstly, I’ll say that I do not think that there is anything wrong with having this memorial place here. Infant death is tragic and having a quiet, beautiful place like this for their families to come and visit is a beautiful thing.
I find the inclusion of the Pope’s quote calling abortion one of the worst ways to cause harm a needlessly cruel detail. I understand that abortion is not an easy topic, but it often causes trauma to the parents as well and they are no less deserving of compassion and love. Someone this memorial visiting may have had an abortion in the past. Where is the healing for them? Everyone is responsible for their own words, including the Pope, and bolting them to a wall where parents come to grieve for dead children is cruel to the point where I can only see hatred aimed at some of the people who may need love and understanding the most.
Absolutely ruined the beautiful experience I had had up until then.
Shameful.

Dear 439deidrec, The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, faithful to the message of the Blessed Virgin Mary through her appearances on the American continent in 1531, serves the spiritual needs of those who suffer poverty in body and soul. It is a place of ceaseless prayer for the corporal and spiritual welfare of God’s children, especially those in most need.

Physically breathtaking, spiritually uplifting
Nov. 2021
The LaCrosse-area Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, memorializing the Virgin Mary’s apparition to an Indo-Mexican in the early 1500s, is a beautiful place of worship in a setting that lends itself to prayer, contemplation and spirituality. The Shrine is approximately five miles south of LaCrosse (and close to a ski resort) and offers ample (free) parking.
The Shrine church offers Latin-, English- and Spanish-language Masses. Interesting architecture inside and out, intended to lift eye and spirits upward. Lottsa little kids at the Latin Mass we attended.
Non-Catholics are welcome to attend a Mass, but might feel more comfortable with the rite offered in Spanish or English.
A separate building by the parking lot houses a gift shop and cafe. Visitors reach the church from the gift shop/cafe via a one-half mile paved path (going up) either on foot or via a motorized cart driving by a volunteer. Roughly half-way is a separate chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary that is open to the public and accessible on foot.
The gift shop, which helps support the Shrine, offers quality (and pricey) gift items and souvenirs. The cafe offers a limited selection of reasonably priced breakfast and luncheon items with sit-down seating in a room with great views of the surrounding landscape.
The Shrine is in the Diocese of LaCrosse, but not a part of the diocese and, therefore, supported by visitors’ donations and ongoing patrons. The acreage was donated by a local family. Cardinal Burke oversaw the Shrine’s construction while archbishop of LaCrosse.

Cricket to help them – Kommersant
The program of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics can be supplemented by several sports, the penetration of which into the main sports until recently seemed absolutely impossible. For example, cricket, lacrosse and flag football, that is, genres with extremely limited geography, and even motor racing, which the leaders of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) previously spoke of as “by definition” not falling under the necessary inclusion in the prestigious list criteria. However, the decisions of the IOC regarding the previous summer Olympics, held last summer in Tokyo, and the next Olympics in Paris in 2024, show that the structure is ready for a lot to “refresh” the program and attract an additional, especially young, audience.

Insidethegames has unveiled the shortlist of sports eligible for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. It included cricket, baseball (and its female form softball), karate, lacrosse, flag football, kickboxing, squash, breakdancing and motorsports. All of them are allowed to submit official presentations, after studying which the International Olympic Committee in 2023 will make either a positive or negative opinion on each participant in the competition. They will be judged according to six criteria. Among them are the level of interest in the sport in the world and the host country, the effectiveness of its management and the ability to provide an “economical” presence at the competitions in terms of monetary costs and the number of athletes involved. How many of these species can break through to the Olympics, it is impossible to say.
For a long time, the Olympic program was extremely stable.
It consisted of a large block of “root” species that for decades retained the status of species, to which were occasionally added either absolutely new to it, or those that were once in the program, but for some reason disappeared from it.
Everything changed in the middle of the previous decade with Thomas Bach assuming the presidency of the IOC. Under him, the head sports structure adopted a strategy that significantly adjusted the approach to the formation of the program in order to “refresh” it and attract an additional, primarily young, audience, increasing, among other things, the commercial potential of the Olympics.
Now the program has become, in fact, “floating”.
For each Olympiad, a list of sports and disciplines is drawn up, which, having proved their usefulness, can join those that form the basis of the Olympic Games. The public has already seen the results of this approach. The program of the Tokyo Olympics held a year ago included a whole scattering of types and disciplines that were either unconditional or actual (due to the solidity of the period that had passed since the last appearance at the Olympic Games) its newcomers. This includes karate, rock climbing, surfing, skateboarding, and three-on-three basketball. And at the next Summer Olympics – in Paris in 2024 – the debut of breakdancing will take place, which just perfectly embodies the youth direction of the IOC strategy.
The Los Angeles program has already been booked for 28 sports.
If we start from the Olympics preceding it (in Tokyo, medals were played in 32 types, in Paris their number was increased by one), then half a dozen places are at stake. But an important nuance must be taken into account. In the preliminary version of the American program, there are no three “traditional” sports – boxing, weightlifting and modern pentathlon: the federations that control them are in crisis. At the same time, the IOC stressed that for everyone, if the problems are solved, the road to Los Angeles “will be open.” So the degree of competition among the nine “contestants” may be quite high.
It is impossible to single out undoubted favorites among them. Everyone’s background is about the same: kickboxing and squash have never been at the Olympics, the participation of the rest is either long-standing, sometimes dating back to the beginning of the last century, or episodic.
