The Rise of Under Armour in Lacrosse
Under Armour’s entry into the lacrosse equipment market has been marked by a focus on innovation and performance. Their lacrosse heads, including the Charge 2, have quickly gained popularity among players at all levels, from high school to professional leagues.
Key Features of the Under Armour Charge 2 Lacrosse Head
The Under Armour Charge 2 Universal lacrosse head boasts several features that contribute to its performance and versatility on the field. Understanding these features can help players make informed decisions about their equipment choices.
Universal Design
One of the standout features of the Charge 2 is its universal design. This means it meets both NFHS and NCAA regulations, making it suitable for players at various levels of competition. This versatility is particularly beneficial for players transitioning between high school and college play.
Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Under Armour has prioritized the strength-to-weight ratio in the design of the Charge 2. This focus results in a head that offers durability without compromising on maneuverability. How does this benefit players on the field? The optimal balance allows for quick stick movements while maintaining the structural integrity needed for aggressive play.
Scoop Design
The scoop of the Charge 2 is engineered to facilitate ground ball pickups. Its shape and angle are optimized to allow players to scoop the ball efficiently, even in tight situations or at high speeds.
Stringing Options for the Under Armour Charge 2
The versatility of the Charge 2 extends to its stringing options. Players can customize their pocket to suit their playing style and position.
Mesh Options
The Charge 2 accommodates various mesh types, including:
- Traditional soft mesh
- Semi-hard mesh
- Performance mesh (e.g., StringKing Type 3 or East Coast Dyes Hero Mesh)
Each mesh type offers different characteristics in terms of hold, release, and consistency, allowing players to fine-tune their stick’s performance.
Traditional Stringing
For players who prefer traditional pockets, the Charge 2’s sidewall design allows for various traditional stringing patterns. This flexibility enables players to achieve their desired pocket depth and placement.
Performance Analysis of the Under Armour Charge 2
To truly understand the capabilities of the Charge 2, it’s essential to analyze its performance in various aspects of the game.
Ball Control
The Charge 2’s design contributes to excellent ball control. Its sidewall structure and face shape work together to create a pocket that offers both hold and quick release. How does this translate on the field? Players can maintain possession during aggressive checks while still being able to pass and shoot with precision.
Shooting Accuracy
The consistency of the Charge 2’s release point contributes to improved shooting accuracy. The head’s design allows for a predictable release, which is crucial for players looking to fine-tune their shooting technique.
Defensive Capabilities
Despite its versatility, the Charge 2 doesn’t compromise on defensive performance. Its sturdy construction allows for effective checks and interceptions, making it a viable option for defensive players as well.
Comparing the Charge 2 to Other Under Armour Lacrosse Heads
While the Charge 2 is a standout product, it’s important to understand how it compares to other Under Armour lacrosse heads.
Charge 2 vs. Charge T
The Charge T is another popular Under Armour head. How does it differ from the Charge 2? The Charge T is often favored by offensive players for its pinched face shape, which can provide additional hold. The Charge 2, with its more universal design, offers greater versatility across positions.
Charge 2 vs. Regime
The Regime is Under Armour’s offering for women’s lacrosse. While it shares some design principles with the Charge 2, it’s specifically engineered to meet women’s lacrosse regulations and playing styles.
Player Reviews and Feedback on the Under Armour Charge 2
Real-world feedback from players using the Charge 2 provides valuable insights into its performance and durability.
Positive Feedback
Many players praise the Charge 2 for its versatility and durability. Comments often highlight the head’s ability to maintain its shape even after prolonged use and aggressive play. The ease of stringing and customization options are also frequently mentioned as positive attributes.
Areas for Improvement
Some players have noted that the Charge 2 may require a break-in period to achieve optimal performance. Additionally, players used to ultra-light heads may find the Charge 2 slightly heavier, though this is often offset by its durability.
Maintenance and Care for the Under Armour Charge 2
Proper maintenance can significantly extend the life and performance of the Charge 2 lacrosse head.
Cleaning
Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the head’s performance. How should players clean their Charge 2 head? A simple solution of warm water and mild soap, applied with a soft brush, can remove dirt and debris without damaging the head’s structure.
Storage
Proper storage can prevent warping and maintain the head’s shape. Players should avoid leaving their stick in hot cars or storing it with pressure on the head, which can lead to deformation over time.
Customization Options for the Under Armour Charge 2
The ability to customize the Charge 2 allows players to create a stick that truly fits their playing style and preferences.
Dye Options
Many players choose to dye their Charge 2 heads to match team colors or express their personal style. The head’s material takes dye well, allowing for vibrant and long-lasting customization.
Pocket Customization
The versatility of the Charge 2’s stringing options allows for extensive pocket customization. Players can experiment with different pocket styles, from low to high pockets, and adjust the whip and hold to suit their preferences.
In conclusion, the Under Armour Charge 2 Universal lacrosse head represents a significant advancement in lacrosse equipment technology. Its combination of durability, versatility, and performance makes it a popular choice among players at various levels of competition. While it may not be the perfect fit for every player, its adaptability and customization options allow it to cater to a wide range of playing styles and positions. As Under Armour continues to innovate in the lacrosse equipment space, the Charge 2 stands as a testament to their commitment to providing high-quality, performance-driven products for lacrosse players.
