Future Buckeyes Dutton, Frederick and Meurer Selected for Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Greg Dutton, Tyler Frederick and Joe Meurer, all Baltimore-area natives who will join the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team as freshmen in the fall, have been selected to participate in the prestigious Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, set for a live broadcast on ESPNU at 8 p.m. July 3 at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md. Dutton is a goalie who recently completed his scholastic career at Calvert Hall College, while defenseman Meurer and attackman Frederick played at McDonogh School. The trio all signed National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period.
The All-Americans are selected by a panel of lacrosse experts at Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The year-long process includes input from college and high school coaches from across the country as well as nominations from the general public.
This marks the first time Ohio State will have three future Buckeyes competing in the All-America Lacrosse Classic. Keenan Ochwat and Joe Bonanni, rising juniors on the Buckeye lacrosse team, played in the UA game in 2008 and sophomore-to-be Jeff Tundo participated in the 2009 event.
“We are very proud of what Greg, Tyler and Joe have accomplished both on and off the field this spring,” Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. “We look forward to seeing them play in July and getting them in the Scarlet and Gray come fall.”
A high school All-American from both US Lacrosse and Under Armour, Dutton, who calls Timonium, Md., home, was a first team All- Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association and Baltimore Sun all-metro selection after his senior season at Calvert Hall when he posted a 67. 4 save percentage and averaged 12.4 saves a contest. A second team all-state selection as a junior and a three-year starter, he had a 62 percent save percentage in 2009. Dutton was the Defensive MVP of the Maryland State Lacrosse Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game, won the Tim Wynne Award given to the outstanding goalie in Maryland and was a finalist for the state player of the year award.
Frederick, a native of Reisterstown, Md., earned a spot on the All-MIAA and all-metro first team after helping lead the McDonogh Eagles to the conference semifinals. A co-captain as a senior, he was one of 11 players named to the Boy’s 2010 All-Tewaaraton High School Team. Frederick ended his career with 95 goals and 123 points, with 32 goals and 31 assists as a senior.
Meurer, from Towson, was the winner of the C. Markland Kelly Award as the best player in the state of Maryland. A U.S. Lacrosse and Under Armour All-American, he earned a spot on the All-MIAA and all-metro first team and was named the Towson Times Player of the Year.
