How does a porthole mesh lacrosse jersey combine retro aesthetics with modern customization. What are the key features and options available for these unique uniforms. Can these jerseys meet NFHS guidelines while offering creative design possibilities.
The Resurgence of Porthole Mesh in Lacrosse Apparel
Porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys have made a comeback, blending vintage aesthetics with contemporary design capabilities. These jerseys offer a unique look that appeals to teams seeking a distinctive on-field presence. But what exactly sets porthole mesh apart from standard lacrosse uniforms?
Porthole mesh is characterized by its larger, more open weave pattern compared to traditional athletic mesh. This creates a visually striking texture and improves breathability. The result is a jersey that not only stands out visually but also enhances player comfort during intense gameplay.
Key Features of Porthole Mesh Jerseys
- Retro-inspired design with modern customization options
- Fully sublimated colors, patterns, logos, numbers, and names
- Traditional box-style yoke for improved fit and clean lines
- Option to pair with matching custom lacrosse shorts
- Available in both adult and youth sizes
Customization Options: Unleashing Creative Potential
One of the most appealing aspects of porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys is the vast array of customization options available. How can teams make these jerseys truly their own?
Through dye sublimation technology, every inch of the jersey can be customized with vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and team branding elements. This process allows for seamless integration of designs into the fabric, ensuring durability and preventing cracking or peeling over time.
Design Possibilities
- All-over patterns for a bold, eye-catching look
- Custom sleeve stripes to complement the porthole mesh body
- Precise color matching to team specifications (with PMS swatch approval)
- Integration of sponsor logos or commemorative elements
- Player names and numbers in various fonts and styles
Balancing Tradition and Innovation: NFHS Compliance
For high school teams, adhering to National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) uniform guidelines is crucial. Can porthole mesh jerseys meet these requirements while still offering creative freedom?
The answer is a resounding yes. Manufacturers of porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys understand the importance of NFHS compliance and offer customization options that meet these standards. This allows teams to enjoy the unique aesthetic of porthole mesh without sacrificing eligibility for official play.
NFHS Compliant Features
- Proper contrast between jersey color and player numbers
- Appropriate sizing and placement of team and player identifiers
- Options for home and away color schemes
- Ability to incorporate required logos or patches
Beyond the Jersey: Complementary Lacrosse Apparel
While the porthole mesh jersey serves as the centerpiece, many teams opt for a cohesive look by pairing it with custom shorts. How do these shorts enhance the overall uniform concept?
Custom lacrosse shorts can be designed to perfectly complement the porthole mesh jersey, creating a unified team appearance. These shorts often feature the same sublimation technology, allowing for seamless integration of team colors, patterns, and logos.
Lacrosse Short Options
- Available with or without pockets for player preference
- Choice of 7″ or 9″ inseam lengths to suit different body types
- Ability to incorporate team logo or mascot designs
- Option for contrasting or matching designs with the jersey
Sizing and Fit: Ensuring Comfort for All Players
Proper sizing is essential for both performance and comfort on the lacrosse field. How do manufacturers address the diverse sizing needs of lacrosse teams?
Porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys are typically available in a wide range of sizes to accommodate players of all body types. This inclusive approach ensures that every team member can enjoy the benefits of these unique uniforms.
Available Size Ranges
- Men’s/Adult Sizes: S/M, L/XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL
- Youth Boys Sizes: YSM/YMD, YLG/YXL
- Note: Additional charges may apply for plus sizes
Production Process and Turnaround Times
For teams eager to hit the field in their new porthole mesh uniforms, understanding the production timeline is crucial. What factors influence the manufacturing process, and how long can teams expect to wait?
The standard production time for porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys is typically around 30-35 days. This timeline allows for careful attention to detail in the customization and manufacturing process. However, many suppliers offer rush options for teams working under tighter deadlines.
Production Time Options
- Standard: 35-day production (plus 2-5 business days for shipping)
- 15-day Rush: 25% surcharge (subject to factory approval)
- 10-day Rush: 50% surcharge (subject to factory approval)
It’s important to note that these expedited options may not always be available and typically come with additional costs. Teams should plan ahead whenever possible to avoid rush fees and ensure the best possible outcome for their custom uniforms.
Minimum Order Quantities and Team Considerations
For lacrosse programs of varying sizes, understanding order minimums is essential when considering porthole mesh jerseys. What are the typical requirements, and how do manufacturers accommodate smaller teams or individual player needs?
Most suppliers set a minimum order of 10 pieces for custom porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys. This quantity allows for efficient production while still catering to smaller teams or programs. However, recognizing the need for flexibility, many manufacturers also offer options for smaller quantities.
Order Quantity Options
- Standard Minimum: 10 piece order
- Fill-in Orders: 1-9 piece orders available (additional charges may apply)
- Bulk Discounts: Often available for larger team orders
The ability to place smaller fill-in orders is particularly beneficial for teams needing to replace damaged jerseys or accommodate new players joining mid-season. While these smaller orders may come with a price premium, they provide valuable flexibility for team management.
Investment and Value: Pricing Considerations
When evaluating porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys, teams must consider both the upfront cost and long-term value. How do these specialized uniforms compare in price to traditional options, and what factors contribute to their overall value?
While porthole mesh jerseys may have a higher initial cost compared to basic uniforms, several factors contribute to their value proposition:
Value-Adding Features
- Durability: High-quality construction and sublimated designs resist wear and fading
- Versatility: Suitable for both competition and training sessions
- Team Identity: Unique designs help build a strong, recognizable brand
- Player Satisfaction: Comfortable, breathable fabric enhances on-field performance
- Longevity: Well-made jerseys can last multiple seasons, reducing replacement costs
Many suppliers offer additional value through free set-up and shipping on qualifying orders. Teams should carefully evaluate these factors alongside the base price to determine the true cost-effectiveness of porthole mesh jerseys for their program.
Caring for Porthole Mesh Lacrosse Jerseys
To maximize the lifespan and appearance of porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys, proper care and maintenance are essential. How can teams ensure their uniforms remain in top condition throughout the season and beyond?
While porthole mesh is designed for durability, following best practices for care will help preserve the jerseys’ quality and appearance:
Maintenance Tips
- Wash in cold water to prevent color fading and fabric damage
- Use a mild detergent free of harsh chemicals or bleach
- Turn jerseys inside out before washing to protect sublimated designs
- Avoid using fabric softeners, which can break down moisture-wicking properties
- Air dry or use low heat settings if machine drying is necessary
- Store jerseys on hangers in a cool, dry place to prevent wrinkling and moisture buildup
By following these guidelines, teams can ensure their porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys remain vibrant and functional for multiple seasons, maximizing their investment in these unique uniforms.
The Future of Lacrosse Apparel: Trends and Innovations
As the popularity of porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys grows, what emerging trends and innovations can teams expect to see in the coming years?
The lacrosse apparel industry continues to evolve, driven by advancements in fabric technology and changing player preferences. Several exciting developments are on the horizon:
Emerging Trends in Lacrosse Uniforms
- Sustainable Materials: Eco-friendly fabrics made from recycled materials
- Smart Fabrics: Integration of performance-tracking sensors into jerseys
- Enhanced Ventilation: New mesh patterns for improved breathability
- Customizable Compression: Adjustable fit options for personalized comfort
- Augmented Reality Integration: QR codes or NFC chips for interactive fan experiences
As these innovations develop, porthole mesh jerseys are likely to incorporate new features that further enhance their appeal to players and fans alike. Teams that embrace these advancements can stay at the forefront of lacrosse fashion and functionality.
Conclusion: Embracing Tradition with a Modern Twist
Porthole mesh lacrosse jerseys offer a unique blend of vintage aesthetics and contemporary customization, allowing teams to create truly distinctive uniforms. By understanding the features, options, and considerations associated with these jerseys, lacrosse programs can make informed decisions about incorporating them into their team identity.
Whether seeking to stand out on the field, improve player comfort, or simply embrace a retro-inspired look, porthole mesh jerseys provide a versatile and appealing option for lacrosse teams at all levels. As the sport continues to grow and evolve, these jerseys serve as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic design reimagined for the modern era.

lacrosse or lacrosse indoor ) is a team sport primarily men on the ground at the base of an ice arena for ice hockey that is removed from the ice. This is a confrontation between two teams of six players (goalkeeper and five outfielders). Box lacrosse is one of the three major versions of lacrosse, the last chronologically after field lacrosse (codified in 1867) and women’s lacrosse (introduced in 1890s), since the last one was created in the 1930s. The three versions have different rules.
Equipment similar to field lacrosse, using a long stick to catch, carry and pass a rubber ball to kick it into the opponent’s goal. The triangular head of the club has a mesh that allows the player to hold the ball. In addition to this club, players must be covered with various protective equipment.
Internationally, boxing lacrosse is governed by the 31 members of the International Lacrosse Federation (FIL), which hosts the World Boxing Championships every four years. Box lacrosse is played professionally in North America in the National Lacrosse League. He also plays at the highest amateur level in the Western Lacrosse Association and semi-professional in major series lacrosse in Canada.

History
History of lacrosse
Native Americans drawn by George Catlin illustrating the practice of lacrosse.
Lacrosse is a traditional Native American game from North America witnessed by the first Europeans who landed on the North American continent. In the 1630s, the Jesuit missionary Jean de Brébeuf was the first to tell about this game in the St. Lawrence Valley and gave it the name “la crosse”, and then the English-speaking people renamed it “lacrosse”.
The history of box lacrosse
Box lacrosse is a modern take on the game, invented in Canada in the 1930s to fill hockey rinks during the summer months. In the 1920s, Joseph Kattarinich and Leo Danduran, franchise owners of the Montreal Canadiens playing in the National Hockey League, encouraged other rink owners to promote the new sport. Canadians are quickly mastering a new version of this sport. It is even becoming more popular in Canada than the field lacrosse version, upsetting field lacrosse fans. 12 May 19For 94 years, lacrosse has been officially recognized as Canada’s national summer sport following the passage of the National Sports Act.
The first boxing lacrosse game took place in 1931. The rink owners created the “International Lacrosse League” from four franchises: Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Maroons, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Cornwall Colts. This league ends after two years of existence. A second league appears, the “American Boxing Lacrosse League” between six franchises: two in New York and one in Brooklyn, Toronto, Boston and Baltimore. This league is contested due to low attendance and disappears within its first year of existence.
The Canadian Lacrosse Association has decided to encourage box lacrosse. In 1935, the Mann Cup (created in 1901), the most prestigious trophy in Canada, changed from field lacrosse to box lacrosse. It is an annual tournament between the Western Association lacrosse champion (in British Columbia) and the head of the lacrosse series (in Ontario). In 1937, the Minto Cup was created for junior champions. Today, the Canadian Lacrosse Association oversees the Mann Cup, Minto Cup, Presidents Cup (Second National Division), and Founders Cup (Second Junior Division) under lacrosse boxing rules.
Soon in 1939, a professional league called the “Pacific Coast Laxcross Association” started in California between four franchises, but was canceled during the first season. Professionalism only resurfaced in the United States in 1968, when the Coquitlam Adanacs franchise began to compete with the Western Lacrosse Association in Portland, Oregon.
2005 National Lacrosse League All-Star Game
A new professional league was born at 1970s with the creation of the National Lacrosse League (which has nothing to do with the current National Lacrosse League). This league, made up of Canadian and American franchises, folded after two seasons.
The resurgence of box lacrosse professionalism in the US is coming. with the creation of the “Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League” by Russ Kline and Chris Fritz. There are four franchises in this league: the Philadelphia Wings, New Jersey Saints, Washington Wave, and Baltimore Thunder. Contrary to the original idea of playing the sport in the summer, this league has competitions in the winter. In its second year, the league was renamed the “Major Indoor Lacrosse League” and in 1998 – to the “National Lacrosse League”. Founded only in the United States since its inception, the league incorporated a Canadian franchise in 1998 with the Ontario Raiders. A feature of this league is that 10 of the 13 franchises are based in the United States and two-thirds of the league’s lacrosse players are Canadians.
Rules
Players, equipment and officials
During a match, a team consists of six players: the goalkeeper and five outfielders. An outfield player can operate in all positions except goaltender, meaning he participates in offense, defense, and relay in midfield (as in ice hockey). However, before 1953 had six outfielders before a sixth fielder dropped out. The goalkeeper may be replaced by a field player (usually in the event of a penalty kick or at the end of the game), but the latter cannot play the role of a goalkeeper.
A boxing lacrosse player has a stick between 1 m and 1.2 m m (youth categories have shorter sticks). The sticks may be wooden. Each player must wear all protective equipment: helmet with face shield, gloves, shoulder pads and back protection, the latter is optional.
During a match, the number of referees varies from one to three, depending on the level of play. Usually there are two of them: the chief referee and the reserve referee. There are three in the National Lacrosse League.
Keeper
The goalkeeper’s role is to prevent the opposing team from scoring a goal. In addition to field players’ protective gear, he wears a chinstrap, pads, and his helmet closes at the front with a protective mesh.
An area with a diameter of 2.7-2.8 m around the cage is called a “fold”. There can only be a goalkeeper, players cannot enter there to play ball. In the event of a violation, the player may be penalized with a loss of the ball or a possible penalty of two minutes. Players must not contact the goalkeeper in this area. If the goalkeeper leaves this area, he loses this privilege.
Defender
The main role of the defender is to block and repel enemy attacks. Unlike field lacrosse defenders who carry a long stick, boxing lacrosse defenders have the same stick length as their attackers, i.e. 1 to 1.2m. He can use his stick to obstruct an opponent or hit the ball by hitting an opponent’s stick.
Midfielder
His role is to move from defense to attack as quickly as possible. He sets up counterattacks and plays a creative role in attack.
Intruder
Its role is to mark or create an offensive animation. Its main quality is to shoot with one hand.
Playground
Box lacrosse field dimensions and differences between the Canadian Lacrosse Association and the National Lacrosse League
The lacrosse box field has the same dimensions as a hockey field. Its surface is usually a concrete floor that replaces the ice. The dimensions of the land is 55 m to 65 m long and 24 m to 27 m wide . NLL uses a synthetic turf surface.
Gun cages traditionally measure 1.2 m high and 1.2 m wide. In NLL and Major Series Lacrosse, the height is the same, but the width is 1. 4 m . Thus, these cages are smaller than the Cross Country cages (1.8 m at height and 1.8 m at width).
Match duration
A traditional Canadian Lacrosse Association game consists of three 20-minute thirds with a change of ends in each period. In NLL, that’s four 15-minute shifts. In the event of a tie in regular time, sudden death overtime may be played depending on the league.
Throw-ins, substitutions and possession
In each period or after a goal is scored, the game starts with a throw-in (two teams are opposite each other and the crosses of each team try to get possession of the ball with their clubs after they have been released by the referee or linesman). If the ball goes out of bounds, the ball is returned to the team that did not last touch the ball.
Substitutions may be made at any time during the match. Changes are made at the edge of the field, the player must leave so that he can be replaced.
For each ball possession, the team has 30 seconds to practice the kick. In addition, any ball found in his defensive zone must move to the attacking zone in less than ten seconds. If this is not the case, the team is penalized with a loss of the ball.
Penalty
brawl in a boxing match.
In the event of a penalty kick, the chosen player goes to the penalty box and his team plays shorthanded. Most penalties are two minutes.
Two-minute penalties are often applied after minor infractions. For the most serious errors, or in case of repetition of minor errors, the player may be penalized for five minutes. If the opposing team succeeds in scoring during the penalty time, the player may return to the field (two goals in case of a 5-minute penalty).
Competitions
Box lacrosse is widely practiced in the Czech Republic, but in Australia it is played mainly by former field players. The high level practiced in various leagues in the United States has increased the number of players, including in minor leagues such as the “Baltimore Indoor Lacrosse League” and the “Philadelphia Boxing Lacrosse Association”.
The first international box lacrosse competition was the Nations in 1980, held in British Columbia in July 1980 with five teams: USA, Australia, Eastern Canada, Canada of the West and some Native Americans from North America. The Western Canadians beat the Indians in a qualifying tournament at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver in a televised final. For the first time in history, Native Americans took part in the World Cup.
The second international box lacrosse tournament was held in 2003 as part of the first tournament of the World Box Lacrosse Championship. Representatives from Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Iroquois, Scotland and the USA participate. England and Ireland were added in the second edition in 2007. These two tournaments are won by Canada, each time ahead of the Iroquois and the Americans.
Other international tournaments are held. Every year, the European Lacrosse Federation holds the Aleš Hebeski Memorial Tournament in Prague. It is the largest European box lacrosse tournament. Finally, in 2002 and 2004, the Heritage Cup is a competition between the United States and Canada that features NLL players.
Boxing lacrosse practiced by women
Ginny Capiccioni
Historically, boxing lacrosse has been an exclusively male sport. Women have their own version of lacrosse: women’s lacrosse. Women’s lacrosse boxing leagues have recently been established in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.
In the 2003 NLL season, goaltender Jeannie Capiccioni appeared in two preseason games and one regular season game. She is the only woman to play games in NLL history.
