Revere Lacrosse: A Rising Force in Ohio High School Sports
Revere lacrosse has been making waves in the Ohio high school sports scene, establishing itself as a formidable competitor in recent years. The team’s dedication to improvement and strategic gameplay has caught the attention of fans and rivals alike. With a strong emphasis on player development and team cohesion, Revere has consistently demonstrated its ability to compete at a high level.
The Rocky River Rivalry: A Test of Skill and Strategy
One of the most intriguing matchups for Revere lacrosse is their ongoing rivalry with Rocky River. In a recent Division II Region 5 semifinal, these two teams faced off in a highly anticipated rematch of their season opener. The initial game, which Rocky River won 8-7, set the stage for an intense playoff battle.
Rocky River’s coach, Colleen Hile, acknowledged the strength of the Revere team, stating, “They’re a really good, aggressive and strong team. We’re excited to see that challenge again, being able to handle that pressure and hopefully come out with a win.” This sentiment highlights the respect and competitive spirit between these two programs.
Key Players and Strategies
Rocky River’s offensive prowess is evident in their scoring statistics. Players like Kaitlyn Byrne (45 goals), Grace DeWitt (43 goals), and Alexis Tisler (40 goals, 19 assists) have been instrumental in their success. Olivia Konopka’s versatility (31 goals, 22 assists) adds another dimension to their attack.
While specific player statistics for Revere are not provided in the original text, their performance against Rocky River in the season opener suggests a well-balanced and competitive team. Revere’s ability to keep the game close against a top-seeded team like Rocky River demonstrates their skill and determination.
Revere’s Path to the Playoffs: A Season of Growth
Revere’s journey to the Division II Region 5 semifinal has been marked by impressive performances. In their playoff run, they secured victories against Sylvania Southview (16-2) and Brecksville-Broadview Heights (13-8). These convincing wins showcase Revere’s ability to perform under pressure and their potential for deep playoff runs.
Regular Season Performance
While detailed regular season statistics for Revere are not provided, their 12-7 record heading into the semifinal match against Rocky River indicates a successful campaign. This winning record, combined with their playoff victories, suggests a team that has found its rhythm and is peaking at the right time.
The Evolution of Revere Lacrosse: Building a Winning Culture
Revere lacrosse has shown significant growth over the years, as evidenced by their competitive performances against top teams like Rocky River. The program’s focus on player development and team chemistry has been key to their success.
Team Dynamics and Chemistry
While specific details about Revere’s team dynamics are not provided, the success of any lacrosse team often hinges on strong communication, trust, and coordination on the field. As Rocky River’s Kaitlyn Byrne noted about her own team, “I think creating friendships more has helped us clicked more as a team. Just being able to trust one another has helped us put the ball in the back of the net.” It’s likely that Revere has fostered a similar environment of trust and teamwork.
Revere vs. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy: A Rivalry in the Making
Another interesting matchup for Revere lacrosse is their rivalry with Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (CVCA). Historical data shows that these teams have faced each other multiple times between May 7, 2016, and April 3, 2019.
Head-to-Head Record
In their most recent matchup on April 3, 2019, Revere suffered a loss to CVCA with a score of 13-6. However, it’s worth noting that Revere had previously enjoyed a three-game winning streak against CVCA, which speaks to the competitive nature of this rivalry.
- Last Matchup: April 3, 2019 (CVCA 13, Revere 6)
- Revere’s Winning Streak: 3 games
- Streak Period: May 7, 2016 – prior to April 3, 2019
This rivalry showcases the ebb and flow of high school sports, with each team experiencing periods of dominance and challenges. It also highlights the importance of consistent performance and the ability to bounce back from defeats.
The Impact of Schedule Strength on Team Development
While the article primarily focuses on Rocky River’s schedule, it’s worth considering how a challenging schedule can benefit teams like Revere as well. Rocky River’s coach emphasized the importance of playing tough opponents: “We try to get some tougher games in there so that way you can see what the other competition is up to. There’s just such big learning moments from that.”
For Revere, facing strong opponents like Rocky River and CVCA throughout the season likely contributes to their overall growth and preparedness for high-stakes playoff matches. These challenging games provide opportunities for:
- Identifying areas for improvement

- Building mental toughness
- Gaining experience in high-pressure situations

- Mental resilience in close games
By addressing these areas, Revere can continue to elevate their game and solidify their position as a top contender in Ohio high school lacrosse.
The Role of Coaching in Revere’s Success
While specific information about Revere’s coaching staff is not provided in the original text, the team’s success suggests effective leadership and strategic guidance. In high school sports, coaches play a crucial role in player development, team strategy, and overall program culture.

Season’s ebbs and flows prepared Pirates for Revere rematch – Morning Journal
A lot has changed since March 18, but Rocky River’s girls lacrosse opponent, Revere, stays the same.
It was the season opener then, and it’s a Region 5 semifinal now. The top-seeded Pirates will host the No. 4 seed Minutemen for a trip to the regional final at 6:15 p.m. on May 23.
River’s 8-7 win on that snowy day was hard fought, and was the first of 15 victories so far this season.
“It’s awesome to win your first game,” Rocky River coach Colleen Hile said after the opening win. “We’re really out here trying to learn with each game that we have. Today, we battled the elements in the snow, which was an interesting look. It’s always good to get out here and to a get a win and build confidence.”
Although you can’t rule out mother nature in Northeast Ohio, there won’t be any snow in the air for this postseason contest. Back then, the Pirates were just trying to get their bearings beneath them. Now, they are two home victories away from another regional title.
Along the way, Rocky River has played a tough schedule to prepare itself for the playoffs. Of the 18 games that Rocky River has played this season, including Revere, the Pirates played six games against the 32 teams that remain in both divisions. A seventh would have been on the schedule against Chagrin Falls in a state semifinal rematch if not for the game’s cancellation.
“We try to get some tougher games in there so that way you can see what the other competition is up to,” Hile said. “There’s just such big learning moments from that, like when you play St. Joe’s, who’s such a powerful team. You can see ways that they pick you a part, and then you can hopefully not let that happen again.”
Speaking of picking a part, Rocky River has improved offensively since that first game, according to Hile. Looking just beyond the score of only putting up eight goals, the team has gotten better at its creativity to find better looks and openings, she said.
The numbers also speak for themselves with three individuals having 40 or more goals. Kaitlyn Byrne leads River with 45 goals, Grace DeWitt has 43 and Alexis Tisler has 40. Tisler also has 19 assists, and Olivia Konopka does a little bit of everything with 31 goals and a team-high 22 assists.
Even more than that, is that the bonds have become tighter over the course of the season. Growth and trust can’t be seen on a stat sheet, but it sure does help it.
“I think creating friendships more has helped us clicked more as a team,” Byrne said. “Just being able to trust one another has helped us put the ball in the back of the net.”
In the commanding regional quarterfinal win over Westlake on May 20, Rocky River’s scoring balance was on display. Byrne, Tisler and Mackenzie Russell all scored three goals, and Konopka had two.
The same could be said in the first meeting with Revere, as Konopka, DeWitt and Elle Mocho each scored twice. The team is ready for the rematch, according to Hile.
“They’re a really good, aggressive and strong team,” Hile said. “We’re excited to see that challenge again, being able to handle that pressure and hopefully come out with a win.”
