Extraliga
Event
06 September 2021
Draw a line under the first rounds of the national championship.
Extraleague broke into our reality with a busy game week, which included 18 matches at once. The teams showed themselves in different ways, but managed to leave a full impression of themselves. Let’s talk about who did better, who did a little worse, which of the hockey players was remembered for their bright game, and what happened in the first week of the tournament. Below is an overview of the main events and a set of impressions from Hockey.by.
Extraliga 2021/22. Match schedule and results
Excellent students: Dynamo, Khimik, Yunost
After three rounds, a dual power was established at the head of the table, and its leaders are teams that few people expected to see there – Dynamo and Khimik became the headliners of the first week of the championship.
Both have identical indicators: 6 points each, 8 goals scored and one missed. Both goalkeepers played a key role in the results – Mikhail Karnaukhov and Stepan Goryachevsky. The first one has never conceded at all in the new season, reflecting all 64 shots. The second one also did a great job – 77 saves and two shutouts in a row. With such a game of goalkeepers, it is not surprising to see these teams in the lead.

Publication from Hockey Belarus (@hockey.by)
It is impossible not to note the efforts of the attack group. Leaders Pavel Kopytin (3+3) and Oleksandr Karakulko (2+3) showed themselves well ahead of Dynamo, who jointly top the league’s scorer list, while Khimik has Mikhail Buchkin (2+2) and Denis Kirpichenok (1 +2).
“While the Goryachevskys lead at Buchkin 2-0.” Denis Kirpichenok – about the great start of Khimik and the potential of the team
On the heels of the Dynamo and “oilmen” comes “Youth”. Champions can also take credit for the start of the season. Minskers made the only misfire in the meeting with Metallurg (3:4 OT), but they took one point in it too. In general, all three matches of Yunost turned out to be different in content and result, so there can be no complete satisfaction from the start, but even small problems allow Evgeny Esaulov’s guys to go in the group of leaders. You understand what will happen when the champions accelerate.
Successful: Shakhtar, Neman, Metalurh, Vitebsk
Following the leaders, there is a group of teams that won two victories at the start of the season. And if Shakhtar and Vitebsk produced them at home, Neman and Metalurh had a difficult away series. Each of the four has both positive moments and topics for reflection.
For example, Metallurg is the leader in the number of missed goals. If in the matches with Shakhtar and Yunost it was possible to level the holes with the bright game of the attacking group, then in Molodechno Karnaukhov put a barrier in front of the Wolves.
Although the Pitmen won twice, hockey did not always turn out to be as meaningful as one of the main contenders for gold should be shown. However, let’s put it down to the fact that the Soligorsk team is still getting used to each other – after all, in the summer the team was updated very significantly.

Publication from Hockey Belarus (@hockey.by)
The passage about the meaningfulness of hockey can be applied to the Neman, although the team’s ambitions are a little more modest. A real test of strength awaits Grodno residents next week, when Yunost will visit for two matches. As for Vitebsk, the team of Roman Yupatov confirmed that in the new season he will obviously not get lost in the extra league. And so far, the “bears” look like a team that plays itself and allows the opponent to play, and this is always fun.
Middle peasants: Lokomotiv, Lida
It is especially pleasant to see “knights” in this group. Many specialists almost gave up on the team before the start of the season, but Eduard Valiullin assembled a fully combat-ready gang, with which it will not be easy for anyone. Lida, on a trip to the north of the country, could count on more than three points, and most importantly, they showed very decent hockey in places. What the “knights” lack at this stage is stability and solidity. But they will definitely drink a lot of blood from rivals.

Publication from Hockey Belarus (@hockey.by)
The Orsha team could also put a little more points into the piggy bank, but it was insulting to lose to the same Lida, conceding a funny goal from Sobko, and turned out to be a little worse in the shootout with Neman. But this is only the beginning, and Lokomotiv has serious prospects for the upcoming season.
Losers: Gomel, Mogilev, Brest
Seeing the “lynxes” in the basement of the table is very unexpected, but the fans of the team should not grieve and make a tragedy. The Gomel team didn’t look like themselves only in the third period of the match against Yunost and in Molodechno. In Soligorsk and in Minsk, we sometimes saw glimpses of the game that Sergei Stas puts on his charges – and it was very powerful. Such a slap in the face at the start will serve as a good motivation before returning home, you will not envy Lokomotiv now.
“Lions” from Mogilev have not scored a single point yet, but on the good side they surprised those spectators who watched their matches. In all three, Oleksandr Materukhin’s wards could count on more: they tried not to yield to Dynamo, Shakhtar, or Yunost. And it did work! The favorites took their toll only in the end, and the impression of Mogilev hockey at the beginning of the pre-season and now differs like heaven and earth. With such progress, points and victories will definitely not be the case. The debut of the Master as a head coach has not yet turned out to be victorious, but it looks very, very curious. We will continue watching with interest – this week the Lions are waiting for Vitebsk to visit.

The Brest team rolled up extremely unsuccessfully on a tour of the Vitebsk region, having suffered two dry defeats. Yes, in some places we saw glimpses of the Bison’s game, which almost brought them to the final of four Saleya Cups, but Andrey Kovalev’s Vegas at the start of the season does not bring results. The test is not easier ahead: Brest will play Shakhtar twice at home.
Record holder
Maxim Slysh is the main uncle of the extraleague, now it’s official! In the very first match of the season, he broke the record of Oleg Mikulchik, which lasted almost 15 years, and in addition became the author of the oldest goal and effective action, reached the mark of 200 goals, which he stepped over in just a few days. He is now ranked eighth on the list of the best scorers in the history of our league.
In the future, Maxim continued to break his own records and raise the bar higher and higher. The Belarusian Jagr shows that he is still young at heart, still enjoys hockey, is in great shape and even at 42 is by no means lost at the extra league level. Respect!
Award
Dmitry Kuzmin left the extraleague, which we are very sorry about, but we understand that it could not be otherwise. However, it was impossible to let the defender go just like that – the last figurine of the best of the best in the past season found its owner. Dmitry got it for this goal, recognized as the most beautiful in the 2020/21 championship.
It is symbolic that the award was presented to Kuzmin in Molodechno, where the defender spent the entire last season, where he scored his cool puck and where he grew up to Winnipeg.

Trauma
Yunost defender Egor Ivanov finished the match against Metallurg ahead of schedule and was out for a long time after this contact with the guests’ forward Ilya Spat. It looked really scary.

Ivanov left the ice on a stretcher and was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a closed head injury. The recovery period is not specified, but Egor will not return to the ice soon. To the credit of Ilya Spat, the perpetrator of the episode found words of support for the victim and apologized to him. We can only wish Yegor a speedy recovery.

Curiosities
In the 40th minute of the debut match of the season, Yunost forward Vladimir Rovba shocked Gomel, Andrey Grishchenko and even himself: “The puck went hard, hit me in the hook, then in the Gomel player’s hook and flew over the goalkeeper. I look – and I was right in shock. I thought: “Oh, it turned out like a basketball.” Could you repeat? Well, only luck will help here.0338 . Nothing to add – the most unusual goal of the week!

To argue with him in the ranking of curiosities can only be a throw for luck performed by the forward of “Lida” Daniil Sobko. Nightmare of Sergei Stepanov.
Emotion
The mood of all Dynamo fans is now well reflected by this celebration by Pavel Kopytin of a goal against Gomel. Youth comes first!

Young go
With the introduction of new requirements for the application in the extraleague, there are much more young and even young hockey players. Many of them managed to score debut goals at this level last week: Soligorsk resident Mikhey Novik and his former teammate Ivan Nekrasov, one of the best snipers of the last season of the major league Alexander Chaban and ex-forward of the Minsk Zubrs Roman Yeremeichik
(all three are now performing in Vorsha), Daniil Sotishvili from Novopolotsk. We look forward to more achievements from them and not only!
Goals
The traditional weekly top was headed by Metallurg’s forward Oleksiy Mastryukov and his individual puck against Shakhtar. We will show you six more beautiful goals in our selection very soon.

Top players of the week
Hockey.by continues the tradition of identifying the main characters of the past week. According to the results of the starting rounds, they were:
Goalkeeper – Stepan Goryachevsky (“Chemist”). In three matches, the goalkeeper of the “oilmen” won three victories, two of which were by shutouts, saved 77 shots (98.7%) on his own goal with a reliability coefficient of 0.33.
Defender – Alexey Vinogradov (“Youth”). Last week, the 26-year-old Russian played not only reliably in defense, but also effectively in attack, scoring 3 (0+3) points with a utility indicator of “+5”.
Forward – Pavel Kopytin (“Dynamo”). The 34-year-old forward scored points in all three of the team’s matches and made a significant contribution to the winning results. He has three goals and three assists with a +2 utility index. Right now, Pavel leads the list of scorers in the entire championship.
