US Sports Camps Announces New Nike Girls’ Lacrosse Camp at Howard

US Sports Camps, the official provider of Nike Sports Camps, is excited to announce a new Nike Girls Lacrosse Camp at Howard University.

As one of the most celebrated Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Howard University is also home to the first collegiate all Black Women’s Lacrosse team in the world. The three-day camp, offered from July 24-26, features an elite coaching staff and top-notch campus facilities. Players learn to deepen their skills and understanding of lacrosse through drills, strategy sessions, and competitive play.

Camp Director and Head Coach Karen Healy-Silcott was named head coach of the Bisons in 2021, the same year Howard University’s women’s lacrosse team joined the Northeast Conference (NEC). With more than 20 years of coaching experience, including serving as the Jamaica National Women’s Lacrosse team captain in the last World Cup qualifying event, the All-American award-winning midfielder and goalie shares a passion for the game and a tailored approach to coaching.

“I’m excited to partner with Nike Lacrosse Camps and am confident the girls will have a fun and memorable camp experience that elevates their lacrosse game,” Healy-Silcott explains. “We encourage beginners and advanced level players alike to — as the Nike slogan goes — ‘Bring your best, then better it.’ Campers come in at different competencies and everyone learns differently so our sessions focus on skill-building and helping girls find success at every level.”

Karen Healy-Silcott is joined by Coach Gabrielle Torain, a former University of Massachusetts Lowell defender, and Alexis Joseph, a former Duke University defender who joined the Bisons as volunteer assistant coach in 2022.

“US Sports Camps is delighted to expand our HBCU partnership with the Nike Girls Lacrosse Camp at Howard University, a historic college setting that inspires young talent to reach for the stars” explains Senior Vice President Paul Merrion. ”We’re thrilled to work with Karen Healy-Silcott—an international player and respected mentor—and her experienced staff who will deliver focused training to every player with a low student-to-coach ratio. Outlets like this in the DC area can be life-changing, as young girls leave with new life skills and friendships that foster success—in lacrosse, in academics, and in life.”

Players will report to the 10,000 seat William H. Greene Stadium in northwest Washington, D.C., situated on Howard University’s 256-acre campus, often referred to as “The Mecca.”

Enrollment for the Nike Girls Lacrosse Camp at Howard University is now open, with players divided into a “complete skills camp” for ages 10-13 and “advanced skills camp” for ages 14-18. Prospective players and parents can visit the website for more information or to sign up.

NIKE GIRLS LACROSSE CAMP AT BUCKLEY COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL

*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 08/09/2021

Come join Plainedge Girls Varsity Coach Anthony Giovanelli this summer at the Nike Girls Complete Skills Lacrosse Camp. Located at Buckley Country Day School in Roslyn, NY as a partner with Buckley Summer Academy.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email [email protected] so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

This is a complete skills day camp designed for youth lacrosse players ages 6-15, from Nassau County and beyond. In addition to stick skills, position work, and scrimmaging, this camp includes a specialized speed and agility program. The feature that separates this camp from the rest is our daily Pro-session where campers are exposed to the highest level of play.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Complete Skills Camp for Girls Ages 6-15
• Daily NCAA & MLL lacrosse Coaches for specialized instruction
• 8:1 camper to instructor on field ratio
• Daily emphasis on fundamentals, position training, drills and scrimmages
• Team discounts available
• Special goalie instruction and discounts available
• Every camper receives a reversible Nike practice jersey
• Nike and STX Prizes for outstanding play, sportsmanship and improvement

This camp is about more than just lacrosse, it’s about helping athletes to develop their lacrosse IQ while having fun. Strengthening their lacrosse IQ will enable them to meet all of the game’s challenges with a sense of confidence. As Coach Giovanelli’s favorite quote says, “Know the game, so you can grow your game.” This philosophy applies to all aspects of lacrosse, from playing, to watching to coaching. Campers are grouped by age, ability and experience.
