Coaches who possess a deep understanding of the game, effective strategies, and the ability to motivate and develop players often lead their teams to success. They play a crucial role in recruiting top talent, implementing winning game plans, and fostering a culture of excellence within their programs.
Player Development and Recruitment
Successful lacrosse programs consistently attract and develop high-caliber players. This involves not only recruiting talented high school athletes but also nurturing their skills and helping them adapt to the college level. Programs that excel in player development often see improved individual and team performance over time.

Three different campuses, many opportunities
City Campus
The university’s main campus, located at 1400 Washington Avenue in Albany, was designed in 1961-62 by renowned American architect Edward Durell Stone. The campus reflects Stone’s signature style of bold, unified design through its towers, domes, fountains, towering colonnades, and wide canopy. The result is starkly different from the scattered buildings and disparate architectural styles of most traditional college campuses.
A consistent stream of new construction has expanded the Uptown campus over the past decade, adding new science and arts facilities and administrative buildings. The new home for the School of Business, which received a LEED gold rating from the US Green Building Council, opened in the fall of 2013. As a result of the expansion and major renovation, the university’s entrance plaza, the main fountain, the 20-story carillon, and the Campus Center were completely renovated.
The Uptown campus also has a Performing Arts Center with several theatres, concert halls, and teaching rehearsal spaces; University Art Museum, one of the best regional museums in the Northeast; and the New York State Writers’ Institute, a broad educational base for readers and writing students who promote the literary arts. Other special facilities on the Uptown campus include the National Weather Service’s meteorological laboratory, a physics research linear accelerator, and a state-of-the-art data center that supports high performance computing and networking. The hub of student activity is the Campus Center, which includes lounges, conference and dining facilities, a banquet hall, cafeteria, banking facilities, a convenience store, a Barnes & Noble bookstore, and many fast food and healthy food options. .
Building
Each of the four residential blocks on Uptown Campus houses approximately 1,200 students and includes eight three-story halls and a 23-story tower. Each quad has lounges and rest areas, and three quadratures have a dining area. The neighboring Freedom Apartments has apartment-style housing, while the Empire Commons has one-room apartments for 1,200 students. Liberty Terrace, an architecture award-winning eco-friendly community, offers an additional 500 apartment-style beds. Housing is also available at Alumni Quad, located close to the campus in the city center.
Sports Facilities
Outdoor recreational opportunities include floodlit tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as several multi-purpose play and indoor areas, including Alumni Turf Field, home to the UAlbany hockey team. Dedicated to UAlbany men’s and women’s lacrosse, John Fallon Field has a capacity of 2,500 people. The 8,500-seat Tom and Mary Casey Stadium, which hosts football matches and men’s and women’s football, opened in the fall of 2013. The following year, UAlbany opened a new home stadium for the school’s track and field championships. It features a nine-lane surface and a complete infield refurbishment with natural turf for field competition.
SEFCU Arena dominates indoor sports facilities. With a capacity of approximately 4,800 people, the arena houses the NCAA Division I basketball club, as well as a running track, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a fully equipped sports and training facility with hot tubs and other rehabilitation equipment, two main locker rooms, and several smaller team locker rooms. All rooms are equipped for guests with disabilities and have specially designated places for the recreation of spectators with disabilities. The physical education center includes a swimming pool, locker rooms, weight and wrestling rooms, a dance studio, basketball, handball and squash courts.
Downtown
The downtown campus, located at 135 West Avenue in Albany, is a classic Georgian complex that served as the main campus from 1909 to 1966.
