How do lacrosse tanks enhance player performance. What features should you look for in a quality LAX tank top. Why are reversible designs popular among lacrosse enthusiasts. Which brands offer the best lacrosse tanks for men, women, and youth players.
The Evolution of Lacrosse Apparel: From Traditional to Modern
Lacrosse, a sport with ancient Native American roots, has seen significant changes in its equipment and apparel over the years. The evolution of lacrosse tanks exemplifies this transformation, blending tradition with modern performance needs.
In the early days, players wore minimal clothing, often just a loincloth. As the sport evolved and spread, so did the attire. By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, players donned long-sleeved shirts and long pants. This gradually gave way to shorter sleeves and shorts as the emphasis on mobility increased.
The introduction of synthetic materials in the mid-20th century revolutionized sports apparel, including lacrosse wear. Moisture-wicking fabrics, breathable mesh, and lightweight polyester blends became staples in lacrosse uniforms. These advancements led to the development of the modern lacrosse tank top, designed to maximize player comfort and performance.

A study conducted by the American Cleaning Institute found that proper laundering techniques can extend the life of athletic wear by up to 50%. This not only saves money for players and teams but also reduces the environmental impact of frequent replacements.
Common Mistakes to Avoid in Lacrosse Tank Care
- Using high heat in washing or drying, which can damage synthetic fibers
- Leaving wet gear in bags, promoting bacterial growth and odors
- Overusing bleach or harsh chemicals, which can break down fabric structure
- Ignoring care label instructions specific to the garment
- Failing to address odor-causing bacteria with proper cleaning techniques
By following these care guidelines and avoiding common pitfalls, players can ensure their lacrosse tanks remain fresh, functional, and ready for peak performance on the field.

A German court has convicted a 84-year-old man for illegal weapons possession of a Panther tank, a flak canon and multiple other World War II-era military weapons to a suspended prison sentence of one year and two months. (Axel Heimken/dpa via AP)
BERLIN (AP) — A German court on Tuesday convicted an 84-year-old man of illegal weapons possession for having a personal arsenal that included a tank, a flak cannon and multiple other items of World War II-era military equipment.
The state district in the northern city of Kiel handed the man a suspended prison sentence of 14 months and ordered him to pay a fine of 250,000 euros ($300,000), the German news agency dpa reported.
It also ordered the defendant, whose name was not given in line with German privacy laws, to sell or donate the 45-ton tank and the anti-aircraft cannon to a museum or a collector within the next two years.
Authorities discovered the illegal military arsenal during a 2015 raid of the collector’s storage facility in northern Germany in an investigation into black market Nazi-era art that turned up two bronze horse statues which once stood in front of Adolf Hitler’s chancellery. Those items were in another man’s possession.
During the raid of the defendant’s property, authorities also seized machine guns, automatic pistols and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition.
Local media reported at the time that the man made no secret of his weapons collection and even brought the tank out during a bad winter to use as a snow plow.
Before the court’s verdict was announced, the defendant’s lawyer read out a confession on his client’s behalf, dpa reported.

90,000 10 most beautiful goals in the history of the MFM: Swedish lacrosse, Nichushkin’s tank drive and graceful Gretzky. Vote for the best – Ice-TV – Blogs
Last day of voting.
MCHM is the main supplier of drama for the New Year. And also an endless stream of emotions, tough hits, dexterous feints and – most importantly – gorgeous heads that can be reviewed for the next year. We decided to choose the most beautiful one among them.
It is difficult, but we have collected 10 beautiful pucks in decent quality, from which we plan to choose the best.Of course, with your help – there is a poll at the bottom of the post, which cannot be ignored, because on Friday we will sum up the results and choose the best goal in the history of the MFM.
Let’s go!
MCHM-1978. Canada 9-3 Czechoslovakia, Gretzky Pass
This was one of the first MFMs and the only U20 tournament in Gretzky’s career. He arrived there as a 16-year-old boy, became the top scorer of the tournament, but the USSR national team still became the champion.
But the Great put just such a puck in Czechoslovakia.
MCHM-1997. Semifinal Russia – Canada – 2: 3, Morozov’s goal in the majority
In 1997, the future president of the KHL had not yet introduced salary ceilings and was not familiar with Zaripov and Zinoviev. He just took the puck, walked the whole court and scored against Canada. By the way, the head coach of the Canadians was Mike Babcock, who was just beginning his path to fame.

MCHM-2003. Canada 4-0 Czech Republic, Falling goal Wellwood
Everything is simple here: a great pass, a sweep from a defender, and an extremely dexterous Canadian.
MCHM-2005. Quarter-finals USA – Sweden – 8: 2, magnificent goal from Phil Kessel
Phil Kessel has never been a super athlete. He loved hot dogs and playing hockey, both of which he did extremely well.
15 years ago Phil was the main American talent and executed the Swedes – he gave them a hat-trick, but this goal turned out to be the best. Kessel had two Stanley Cups ahead, a battle against cancer and an exchange to Arizona.
MCHM-2009.
Canada 7-4 USA, irresistible John Tavares
One of those matches for which we adore the MFM. Top two teams and 3: 3 after the first period, 11 goals in the entire match. The Canadians burned 1: 3, and then Tavares happened, who eventually took away the gold.
MCHM-2013. Russia – Canada – 6: 5 OT, Valery Nichushkin’s winning goal
Vidos, which causes an attack of nostalgia and pride for our boys. We are Russians, Nichushkin is with us! Okay, if we turn down the degree of pathos, then this goal is an explanation of why we expected a bright career in the NHL from Nichushkin, and then worried and joked about his streak without goals.Took the puck – went to the Canadian zone – put the puck in the goal. Unfortunately, only bronze.

MCHM-2016. Semifinal Russia – USA – 2: 1, spinorama from Egor Korshkov
One of Valery Bragin’s heroic victories: the Americans brought Matthews, Tkachak, Dvorak and Verensky, and we sent them to the bronze medal match. They sent it brazenly and beautifully – spinorama, tank mode, a puck in the goal.
MFM-2018. USA – Slovakia – 2: 3, winning masterpiece by Samuel Bucek
At that tournament, the Slovaks made some noise in the group. They led most of the match against the United States – and when the Americans evened the score again, it seemed like overtime would be a reward for Slovakia. But Buchek did not agree to this. The winning goal is aesthetics and delight. Enjoy.

MCHM-2019. Quarterfinals Finland – Canada – 2: 1OT, lucky chance Utunen
In martial arts, there is a lacquer-punch with which you can overwhelm an opponent, although you did not come close to claiming victory. For the Finns, the lucky punch turned out to be quite epic: in overtime 1/4 the defender of the Canadians was driving to complete the attack and broke the club, after which the Finns flew into a foreign zone and did not miss. And then we won the championship.
The goal may not be the most beautiful, but the situation is quite.
MCHM-2020. Sweden 3: 2 OT Finland, lacrosse by Niels Heglander
The best goal of the tournament and one of the coolest even in this collection. Lacrosse is Hoaglander’s best friend, and he continued to use it after the MFM.

Bonus. Jiri Hudler vs. Ukraine
A masterpiece, but the level of the opponent does not allow him to get into the main rating.
Now the most difficult thing is left – to choose the best goal and vote.

Shells for protection. 100 great achievements in the world of technology
Shells for protection
The projectile, as a rule, is more accustomed to refer to the attributes of the offensive weapon. However, the honored inventor of Russia V.A. Odintsov came up with shells that can be attributed to self-defense weapons.
Member of the Scientific and Expert Council of the State Duma Committee on Defense, Associate Professor of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University Vladimir Alekseevich Odintsov is known among specialists primarily as the author of a fragmentation-beam projectile. But this is far from his only invention. Recently, his friends and colleagues celebrated a kind of anniversary – the inventor received the hundredth patent in Russia.
And yet he himself considers his key invention to be a fragmentation-beam projectile – an ammunition that creates two fields of destruction – a circular field of hull fragments and an axial field (sheaf) of striking elements.
Odintsov put forward the idea of such a projectile in 1972, when he noticed that tanks in modern combat are poorly protected from the actions of infantry and helicopters, armed with grenade launchers, ATGMs and missiles.
This became evident already in the Vietnam War, but it was most acutely manifested in the October 1973 war (the “Yom Kippur” war) of Israel against Egypt. For this war, the Arab countries have prepared huge reserves of RPGs and ATGM “Baby”. Every third Egyptian soldier carried anti-tank weapons. And although the war was ultimately won fairly quickly by Israel, its tank losses were appalling – more than 800 vehicles.
A fragmentation-beam projectile for a tank of the XXI century
It became clear that the tank lacks effective means of dealing with tank-hazardous infantry. The only type of tank shells designed for this fight – a high-explosive fragmentation projectile with a shock fuse – stopped in its development at the level of the 30s of the last century. New ideas were needed for self-defense tank shells, and they were found in the form of fragmentation-beam and cluster shells.
Both of them are tank self-defense shells, since they scatter a hail of fragments in flight.
An interesting idea did not remain noticed abroad either. The Israeli company Israel Military Industries (IMI) began developing the tank cluster projectile. Its specialists have developed two samples of projectiles with the general index ARAM (Antipersonnel-Antimateriel): 105-mm Ml 17 Rakafet projectile (for the rifled cannon of old Merkava and Merkava-MK2 tanks) and 120-mm M329 Calanit projectile (for the smoothbore cannon of the new Merkava MKZ and MK4 tanks) The designs are protected by the European patent EP 0961098A2
The novelty aroused great interest among the Americans. 105-mm shells were included in the ammunition load of the new Stryker infantry fighting vehicle. It is reported that these shells will be included in the ammunition of the 105-mm cannon of the future FCS (Future Combat System) combat vehicle, designed to replace tanks in the US Army in the future. The 120-mm cluster projectile will be included in the ammunition load of the M1A2 Abrams tank.
There are reports of the successful use of the 120mm Kalanit projectile by the Israeli army in Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip, as well as by coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Thus, it seems that another domestic development is being taken out from under our noses. The fact is that MSTU does not have special financial resources for foreign patenting of projectiles. And government officials from the Federal Agency for the Legal Protection of the Results of Military, Special and Dual-Purpose Intellectual Activity (FGU FAPRID), as usual, are in no hurry. As a result, Odintsov managed to obtain only a patent No. 2363923 of the Russian Federation for the Likhoslavl cluster projectile. But who abroad has heard of a small town in the Tver region – the small homeland of the inventor? And of course, no one wants to recognize his primacy in the world arms market, which gives fabulous profits.
This text is an introductory fragment.

90,000 New generation Buick LaCrosse sedan introduced
The official premiere of the new, third generation Buick LaCrosse sedan took place at the Los Angeles Auto Show that opened today.
The Buick LaCrosse sedan, the brand’s flagship passenger car, is only known in the North American and Chinese markets. The current generation of the car, produced since 2009, was created on a common platform with the Saab 9-5, which has already gone down in history and the Opel Insignia, which is familiar in Russia. And at the heart of the sedan presented today is a completely new platform with extensive use of high-strength steels, multi-link rear suspension and adaptive dampers.
The current sedan is selling well in the US, but demand in China is even higher
Externally, the new Buick LaCrosse looks rather heavy, and the front end of the car is reminiscent of the style of the recent Buick Avenir concept car.Although, if desired, in the design of the car, you can find some features of “Opel”.
The interior of the car, traditionally aimed at more conservative buyers, is trimmed with leather and wood-look inserts. The front panel is designed in the style of other modern models of the General Motors concern, and the instrument panel combines real arrow indicators and “painted” on an eight-inch display.
At first, Lacrosse will be equipped with a V6 3 gasoline engine.6 with a capacity of 305 liters. with. with a system for shutting off part of the cylinders. The gearbox is an exclusively eight-speed “automatic”, and the drive can be front or full. Later, the range of power units will be replenished with other engines.
Sales of the next-generation Buick LaCrosse sedan will begin in the US in 2016, pricing has yet to be announced. The current version of the model is sold at a price of 31 thousand dollars.

90,000 Provorov scored a masterpiece goal and reached the top level
How difficult it is to choose the most beautiful goal scored by a Russian hockey player in the NHL!
We remember what trick the Tampa forward Nikita Kucherov made when he threw the puck into the Buffalo goal a couple of years ago without making a shot.He simply imitated a feint, and the goalkeeper bought into him, and the puck slid in a straight line between the pads into the net. We remembered this because this season Sergey Shirokov performed the same thing in Bob Hartley’s team. It was from him that Kucherov spied a trick that Shirokov performed in the AHL, when he played in the Vancouver system.
We remember how Carolina striker Andrey Svechnikov scored his lacrosse goal, lifting the puck on the hook outside the Calgary goal and putting it in the top corner. And this was also a remake of the famous goal of the Finland national team striker Mikael Granlund, which he scored in the semifinals of the 2011 World Cup against Konstantin Barulin from the Russian national team.
[ See also: Voting has begun to choose the captains of the “All-Star Game”]
After polling in telegram which goal the fans liked more, we see that 10% of people support the feint Shirokova-Kucherov. 48 percent are delighted with what Svechnikov did. But 42 percent …
Saturday, November 30, autumn turns into winter. “Philadelphia” play in Montreal, with the score 3: 3, the game spills over into overtime. And there, in the first minute, the Flyers defender Ivan Provorov picks up the puck at his goal, starting to create a masterpiece. In general, a masterpiece is difficult to decompose into its components. Is that what you like more about La Gioconda – her eyes, her mysterious smile, or the work of Leonardo da Vinci? So Provorov had everything in his puck perfectly.
That he flew from gate to gate. And even though the game was in the “three by three” format, we still need to do it with the puck, especially for the defender. The “Montreal” on the ice were Max Domi, Jeff Petrie, Joel Armia. Not the most recent Canadiens players. But how great Provorov got everyone around, and what an easy skating he has! How he gracefully changes direction, how he masters coordination.
In an October interview with NHL.com/ru under the heading “Getting to know each other” Provorov answered the question when he was asked to reveal the secret of amazingly smooth skating: “I have worked on this since childhood. Thanks to my coach Albert Petrovich Danilov, and also to my father. We went to skate extra. And when you work a lot, everything will work out. “
It is also wonderful how Provorov made a feint, when he removed the puck under him, rolled Domi and made a turn, flew to the gate. So Valery Kharlamov broke through into the Canadians’ zone, so Vladimir Krutov flew into the attack, and in North America he was called Tank. This is an excellent feint in the spirit of the Russian hockey school. And it is typical of the best forwards in the world. But when did you see this in the attack performed by the Russian defender? Moreover, they are taught to act more easily and more carefully so that a sawed-off does not happen.
And Provorov’s throw into the corner was wonderful, leaving the Montreal goalkeeper out of business.Keith Kincaid even shook his head in annoyance: they say, how did the defender of “Philadelphia” do everything deftly, why we could not stop him?
“I picked up the puck behind my goal and saw that I have room to roll,” Provorov explained his maneuver. speed and time for the feint. I started doing it, and it worked out … “
” I kind of even realized that he was preparing for this, “said Philly goalkeeper Brian Elliott, who made 39 saves.- And when you roll up to someone, he may not suspect that such a trick will be performed on him in overtime. But Provorov did it by performing a cool feint and bursting into their zone. It’s a great feeling when you watch the moment from your half of the court, and your team wins, and you haven’t even touched the puck in overtime. “
But let’s not dwell only on Provorov’s goal. Philadelphia and the Russian defender look better than last season. The Flyers missed the playoffs back then, 16 points behind eighth. And now the team is in third place in the Capital Division.
Then Provorov scored 26 (7 + 19) points in 82 matches with a minus-16 usefulness, only two power points and 25:07 playing time. And what do we see now that a quarter of the season has already passed?

Provorov has already scored 17 (6 + 11) points in 27 matches with a plus-4 usefulness. What has changed in the first place? No, not playing time – it even decreased (24:52).But Ivan began to play more often in the majority, in which he had already scored 10 (4 + 6) points. A dramatic change!
By the way, the player’s agent Mark Gandler spoke about this in a September interview with NHL.com/ru, having signed Provorov for six years and $ 40.5 million: “Ivan played in the second brigade of the majority last season, and his playing time in such situations was not too great, but this is directly reflected in the statistics, this is where he can and should make a breakthrough, not to mention the fact that a big contract adds respect and solidity in the locker room. After all, Provorov is now not a green rookie, but already an authoritative player with experience. “
After one of the recent matches in Columbus, correspondent Anton Poltyrev spoke with Provorov, asking him to evaluate the first quarter of the championship for Philadelphia and the player personally. “I think the team started the season well,” Provorov said. – Everyone is trying, fighting. There have been many changes compared to the last championship. New coaches came, a new game system appeared. It took a little time to get used to, to rebuild. In the end, we managed to do it. And now we play good hockey.

I started the season pretty well myself. I try to improve with every match. What is it? There are no specific points. I consider myself a versatile defender, able to play both defense and attack. I try to give all my best, to play correctly all over the court. And no matter what is required for the team – you have to do everything. Block a shot, create something in the majority, score in equal compositions, or just work well in defense. We need to invest as much as possible in the success of the team. When you are at this level, you have to add in the little things. In small episodes that seem imperceptible from the outside. But in the end they can help to create a decisive advantage. ”
What Provorov did in overtime.
Do you think that Provorov’s goal will be in the top 10 in the NHL this season?

Military cranberry for Russian society – analytical portal POLIT.RU
The figures announced by the President of the Russian Federation about the situation in the Russian army, supported by loud applause from members of the government and deputies of the Federal Assembly, give rise to suspicions that neither the members of the government nor the Supreme Commander himself have truthful information (and, therefore, do not have control over the situation), or deliberately keep silent, misleading both themselves and Russian society. I will name a few figures that sounded in the emotional context of the Address, which caused bewilderment in me, to put it mildly.
In the section of the Address, where the analysis of the current state and development prospects of the Russian army was carried out, the President said that: “… in the period from 1996 to 2000, not a single ship was laid down, and only 40 samples of military equipment were adopted.” Apparently, the president was not informed that in 1996 new submarines were laid by Russian shipbuilders, about which he later proudly said that they would be introduced into the Navy in the near future. The strategic missile cruiser Yuri Dolgoruky and two other boats of Project 955 at Sevmash were laid down ten years ago. In 1997 , the Project 12441 Thunder frigate was laid down at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad. The first ship of this type was named “Novik”, however, according to the head of the Naval Shipbuilding Directorate Rear Admiral Anatoly Shlemov, “it turned out to be difficult for the shipbuilding industry of Russia and the fleet. ” Now its construction has been suspended and the fate of the ship is being discussed, the readiness of which is estimated by the designers at 10-12%. 2000 at the Sredne-Nevsky shipyard (St. Petersburg) laid down sea minesweeper project 02668.
Another provision of the text, which did not clarify the situation in my native Russian army for me, is the statement that “a modern structure of the Armed Forces has been created, the army units are being re-equipped with new and modernized models of military equipment.”
The archaic structure of the current army (Ministry of Defense – General Staff – military districts – armies – corps – divisions – regiments: land, sea, air) has remained unchanged for the last century and a half and the last fifteen years of the post-Soviet period, both under President Boris Yeltsin and under President Vladimir Putin. The Russian military-political lobby, which has been defining military policy for the past fifteen years, is preparing the army for the wars of the past. Real structural change is possible only when, instead of the General Staff, the Main Command is created with subordinate territorial commands “West”, “South”, “East”. Although the General Staff spoke about their creation last year, in reality an experiment is being carried out in the army on the basis of one of the military districts. Therefore, there are no structural changes in this regard.Except for the fact that there was an enlargement of the Volga and Ural, as well as the Trans-Baikal and Far Eastern districts, the Air Force and Air Defense were combined. With this unification, the child was thrown out along with the foam – I mean the unjustified reduction of army aviation.
In 2002, after the death of 119 Russian servicemen in Grozny, “putting things in order” with the army aviation and not wanting to listen to specialists, the Ministry of Defense acted according to the traditional scheme of recent years. It was announced that the ongoing reforms of the military organization are aimed at optimizing the structures of command and control of troops (forces) that are subordinate to aviation. In the Russian army, aviation is part of the Air Force (aviation and air defense), the Airborne Forces, the Strategic Missile Forces, the Navy and the Space Forces.
It is unclear for what reasons the army aviation was withdrawn from the Ground Forces and left in all other troops. It is also unclear why helicopters – one of the most powerful means of mobility and fire support of motorized rifle and tank units and formations on the battlefield – were transferred to the Air Force. However, the colleagues of the Russian Army in the anti-terrorist operation (NATO Army) in the Ground Forces have more than 2,470 combat helicopters. There are more than 800 of them in each US army corps, and of them up to 350 shock (and in the division – 100-150 helicopters).
Aviation management is also complicated by the fact that in the air armies of the Air Force and Air Defense, the central apparatus of the Air Force, there are no specialists in the use of army aviation at all. After the departure of the qualified leadership of the aviation directorates and departments, the air defense aviation managers became a nightmare, who have now become “specialists” in the combat control of helicopter units.
The first nightmare occurred on August 26, 2003, when two MI-28 helicopters collided and crashed during landing (five dead).According to the former commander of the army aviation V. Pavlov, the main reason for the collision was “the reorganization of the command and control system of the army aviation.” And this is not only the fault of people serving in the states of the Air Force and Air Defense and who do not know the specifics of the ground forces, who are not ready today to plan the use and management of the attached (support) aviation.
A sharp drop in the combat readiness of army aviation is also due to the fact that if, before the unification of the Air Force and Air Defense, they received about 15% from the defense budget, and 30% together, then the unified Air Force and Air Defense began to receive 15% at all.At the same time, army aviation began to be financed on a leftover basis. On average, the flying time of army aviation pilots in 2004 ranges from 30-40 hours for young pilots and more than 200 hours for pilots of the North Caucasian Military District, according to the results of 2005 – 55 hours. But the situation is no better with the annual raid in other branches of the Air Force. According to the profile committee of the State Duma, it takes from 10 to 30 hours. According to the results of 2005, the Air Force – 33 hours, and transport workers – 60 hours. The lack of flight practice has led to a sharp increase in aviation accidents.
What kind of real re-equipment is mentioned in the Message? Let me give you an example. In 2003, 44 aircraft, 2 frigates, 80 T-90S tanks were exported, and the Russian armed forces modernized 5 SU-27s according to the Su-27SM standard, repaired 5 submarines, and received 14 T-90S tanks.
In 2004, 310 tanks and 55 aircraft were exported, while the Russian army acquired 31 tanks and 4 aircraft during this time.
Approximately the same situation in 2005.It was planned to purchase 2 strategic nuclear submarines for the fleet. For the ground forces – 40 T-90 tanks, 92 armored personnel carriers BTR-80, 24 infantry fighting vehicles BMP-2. For the Air Force and Air Defense, two Tu-160 missile carriers, four Mi-28N helicopters. For the Strategic Missile Forces, it was planned to supply 7 intercontinental missiles and 5 launch vehicles.
For ceremonial reports that in 2006 6 intercontinental missiles, 6 spacecraft, 12 launch vehicles, 31 T-90 tanks (one battalion set), 125 armored personnel carriers (4 battalion sets), 3770 vehicles will be purchased for the army, 9 aircraft (including Tu-160), and 139 tanks, 125 guns, 104 aircraft, 52 helicopters will be modernized – the second bottom is hidden, which is kept silent either out of ignorance or on purpose, misleading society. According to the Chief Military Prosecutor, the number of pieces of new plundered and old equipment being sold out exceeds the supply of new models to the troops.
Present-day Russia is stepping on the rake of modernization, repeating the unsuccessful project of the USSR . From 1981 to 1985, 2,985 T-55 tanks were upgraded to the T-55AD level and the T-62 to the T-64 level. Enormous resources were spent on modernizing outdated vehicles, and at the same time the USA and Germany began replacing their old brands with the M1 General Abrams and Leopard tanks. As a result, the cost of modernization did not lead to an increase in the combat characteristics of the old vehicle. The same mistake is being repeated now by the Main Armored Directorate.
We are talking about rearmament with battalion kits, presented as an achievement. In fact, this is not the case. In Soviet times, the method of transferring units and subunits of various branches of the armed forces and services to new weapons was calculated and tested by practice. Its axiom was – replacement of weapons to produce only regimental sets .Without dwelling on aviation and the navy, consider the example of a tank or motorized rifle regiment. In the last four years alone, tanks were purchased for the Ground Forces: in 2003 – 80 T-90S; in 2004 – 31 tanks, in 2005 – 17 T-90 tanks; for 2006 it is planned – 31 T-90 tanks. The backbone of Russian armored forces is currently 6000 T-72s and about 5000 T-80s. 4000 T-64s, 8000 T-62s, 10,000 T-54 / T-55 are in storage. A total of 35 different modifications of practically one old car – T-64 .The fact is that it is impossible to add one battalion to the T-90 to a tank regiment on the T-80. They have different engines: one has a three-shaft gas turbine, the other has a 12-cylinder turbocharged. Different cruising speeds (T-80 – 70 km / h, T-90 – 60 km / h). Different fording depths to be overcome. Miscellaneous built-in hardware. There is a difference in maintenance, and training in shooting and driving requires different techniques. Apparently, that is why India (an importer of Russian weapons), having an approximately equal Russian military budget, simultaneously bought a tank divisional kit in 2004 – 300 T-90 tanks.
The president’s statements on the purchase of equipment by battalion sets do not stand up to criticism, such rearmament will have zero effect. If we talk about the value of the rearmament program, the T-90 costs about 30 million. The cost of upgrading a tank, as shown by world statistics, can be up to 60% of the cost of a new vehicle of this class. And the upgraded tank will cost about 18 million. By and large, upgrading the T-72 to the T-72M1 variant is a waste of work.It does nothing to increase firepower and protection. The ammunition capacity of the 125-mm tank gun is practically outdated. Reinforcement of the upper frontal part of the hull with a 16-mm armor plate, as well as the use of sand rods as a filler in the armor structure of the tower, practically do not save the T-72M1 from modern anti-tank weapons. The modernization of 139 tanks in 2006 is needed by the Ministry of Defense only to simulate the process of vigorous activity – at high costs for the state and benefits for the repair factories of the Ministry of Defense, where for some reason (and not at all at the military-industrial complex tank factories) is being modernized. The aircraft and vehicle fleet is also being modernized at factories owned by the Ministry of Defense. Naturally, financing passes by the military-industrial complex enterprises, it is opaque and poorly controlled.
The Ministry of Defense, which has endowed itself with the right of independent modernization and the right to supply military products, bypassing Rosoboronexport, will fight for this privilege to the end. Apparently, the main task is to “knock out” budget money for the so-called modernization and pre-sale preparation. And there is an explanation for that. On the world markets, the prices of arms sales by the Ministry of Defense are half, and for some items, even 80% lower than the prices on the world market. For example, according to the Accounts Chamber, the price of the MiG-29 on the world market is $ 15 million, and the Ministry of Defense sells the plane for $ 10 million. Or another example – the T-64 tank on the world market costs $ 0.6 million, and is sold for $ 0. 1 million. There is something to sell. According to the Ministry of Defense, until 2005, the following were released: 150 nuclear submarines, 90 diesel submarines, 600 surface ships, 2,000 aircraft and helicopters.8,000 tanks, 1,000,000 submachine guns, rifles and pistols, 1,500 radar stations. At military bases, 33,000 wagons of ammunition and missiles are awaiting disposal. Perhaps the creation of a federal civilian agency in the government on a unified system of orders will somewhat diminish embezzlement, but it will not eliminate corruption in the army.
The Message spoke about the arrival of two missile carriers in the fleet. This has been loudly announced for the second year already. Entry was expected in 2005 and again expected in 2006.True, according to the estimates of marine experts, something does not fit with the Bulava. And not everything is simple with the Topol-M complex, with which, according to the president, “ are equipped with 5 regiments of missile forces. And this year, one of the missile divisions will begin to receive its mobile version. ”
By 2005, of the 36 missile brigades, 13 remained, and the number of intercontinental missiles (ICBMs) with multiple warheads (MIRVs) was reduced to 520 units. At the same time, all rail-based ICBMs with MIRVs have been reduced.Until 2011, about 200 missile systems of ICBMs with MIRVs of the UR-100 (RS-18) and R-36M2 (RS-20) types will be withdrawn. And if until then only the Topol and Topol-M monoblock ICBMs remain in service, this will be the biggest problem of the future president of Russia. Why? Because “Topol” entered the troops from 1988 to 1994. The service life was calculated for 17 years. In 2005, only 4,
missiles of the newest silo-based modification Topol-M were received.
This requires some clarification.
First, a significant part of Russian experts do not agree with the statement that solid-propellant missiles are more economical than liquid-propellant ones. And an example of this is our well-known missile system R-17 (“Scud”).
Secondly, the use of solid-propellant missiles does not reduce the preparation time, since liquid-propellant missiles in the transport position are easier to transport, therefore they are transported not refueled. Here, an example would be light submarine missiles, which are much lighter, refueled, and also welded necks directly at the manufacturing plant.
Third. To other things, after America’s unilateral withdrawal from the 1972 ABM Treaty, Russia does not restore the development of air-to-ground ballistic missiles (BRVZ) for arming strategic bombers and does not itself strengthen the aviation group, the most mobile and capable, if necessary, of staying in the air until an order is received?
Fourth . The illusion that mobile complexes could go far and be invisible, changing the area, concerned the early 90s, when 18 American satellites of the KN-9 type operated in the optical range. Then the night and clouds could hide the Topol. But at present (since 1998) the Americans have placed 4 15-ton Lacrosse radar reconnaissance satellites into circular low-earth orbits. In addition to them, in April 2005, the Lacrosse-R5 reconnaissance satellite was launched into orbit. In addition, with the commissioning of the Discovery-2 reconnaissance system, consisting of 24 spacecraft with radars with active phased antenna arrays operating in the 3-cm range, our Topolas will not be able to hide their location, and this advantage will be lost.
Fifth . With the US withdrawal from the 1972 ABM Treaty, the criteria for assessing threats to the Russian ROK are changing. No matter how delighted the leaders of the Russian Ministry of Defense are with maneuvering warheads, it becomes clear to everyone that a missile with separating warheads (6-10 pieces) is preferable to a monoblock, but maneuvering one. It is strange why, having a throw-weight of 1200 kg, with the restrictions removed (upon withdrawal from the 1972 Treaty), Russia stupidly adheres to them and does not equip them with separating warheads.
Sixth . Logically following from the fourth and fifth. If the advantage in stealth is no longer there and if there are no restrictions of the 1972 Treaty, then it is wiser that nuclear missiles with MIRVs are not in hangars with an opening roof, it is more logical not to play hide and seek with real terrorists in the forest, not to carry nuclear missiles off-road, but to organize protection and defense of missile systems in protected silos and in fortified areas. It is possible to use a liquid-propellant SLBM with a MIRV “Sineva” in the mine, which will not be particularly difficult.Only a launch canister is required.
I was moved by the phrase of the Message – “ The troops are conducting intensive combat and operational training.” I wonder if it is possible to find in the Russian army a commander of an army (flotilla) or a district (fleet) who actually, and not on paper, organized and directed the actions of large formations, formations and units. He developed and delivered strikes with missile units, combined with the strikes of submarine missiles. Is there a fleet commander who actually changed the base and, together with the ground forces, the Strategic Missile Forces, the Air Force and the Air Defense Forces, carried out the amphibious operation? Unfortunately, there will be only one answer – there is no one who has personal experience and is capable of organizing and conducting an amphibious or anti-amphibious operation.
Experience shows that officers and generals become specialists in the organization of antiamphibious defense and actions in the amphibious assault after 3-4 years of constant training, in the course of practical work on tactical, operational-tactical and operational exercises with the participation of not only their own units, but formations and parts of the fleet, air force and air defense, border and internal troops. In command and staff training and exercises, even led by the largest army commanders, it is impossible to teach this. The isolation of theory from practice makes it necessary to organize in the troops the study of those materials that were supposed to be studied in schools and academies. In particular, the combat capabilities of those forces and assets of the fleet, aviation, air defense, border and internal troops, which “on the ground” will interact at all stages of an antiamphibious or amphibious assault operation. Such a “trifle” as ignorance of the conventional designations and naval terminology of the fleet by ground officers and, conversely, the conventional designations of land forces and terminology by naval officers, creates great difficulties in organizing interaction, planning complex fire interaction, and formalizing decisions of commanders and commanders.
Or another example. At the strategic exercises conducted in 2004 and 2005 under the loud name “Landing and seizure of the sea coast by amphibious assault”, in fact, the landing was imitated, and two medium landing ships were put forward. It is difficult to imagine that at the present time on the sides of dry cargo ships or other transport of the same type, boards are prepared and lie in the holds (as it should be in the mobilization plan) for mounting bunks for landing forces or fastenings for military equipment. It is doubtful that the current commanders can build convoy marching orders, which take into account the running characteristics.I doubt that before the landing of the main assault force, a rehearsal of the landing on its coast was carried out, and during the passage, anti-submarine, anti-sabotage, anti-mine, anti-aircraft defense and anti-radio electronic warfare were organized. It is hard to imagine that the boats – landmarks designating the landing site and the landing wave formation site have exact coordinates, refined according to data from space.
Many senior commanders, who actually commanded a division at the maximum, simply do not imagine the complexity of organizing command and control and interaction, organizing complex fire damage by heterogeneous forces and means at the stages of amphibious and anti-amphibious operations. The distribution of targets between the ships of the naval fire support and artillery units and formations of ground forces, both during operations on the coast during landing and during the operations of amphibious forces on the coast, raises great doubt.
Therefore, the president’s wish that the armed forces fight simultaneously in a global, regional or several local conflicts can be assessed as an intention to wage wars in the future, for which the modern Russian army is not yet ready.
Unfortunately, all the exercises conducted in recent years were actually advertising campaigns. They bore sonorous names: “Exercises of the Pacific Fleet – August 2003”, “Exercises with the Baltic Fleet – September 2003”, “Exercises with the formations of fleets and the Caspian flotilla”, “Joint exercises of the Black Sea and Pacific fleets with the Indian Navy – April-July 2003” , “Strategic command and staff training – February 2004”, “Operational strategic exercises” Mobility – 2004 “,” Joint exercises Russia – China “(2005). Each exercise was preceded by powerful advertising, loud militant statements by the General Staff, the Main Commands of the Air Force and Air Defense and the Navy about the readiness of the strategic forces, headquarters and troops to defeat any enemy. The exercises were commanded by the Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. The headquarters of almost all military districts and fleets were involved in the exercises (SKSHU and “Maneuverability – 2004”). And on them, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, “the interaction of the fleets with the troops of other branches of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was practiced, while jointly solving tasks in the fight against international terrorism, illegal fishing of marine biological resources, ensuring environmental safety and safety of navigation” (?!).
At first glance, it’s serious if the top officials say so. Yes, judging by the press, all the corresponding staffs of districts, fleets, armies, flotillas, corps and divisions are involved. The President of Russia is personally present at the exercises. And the Minister of Defense personally makes a transcontinental flight Europe – Asia (Engelsk – Vladivostok) on a TU-160 strategic bomber (although he personally violates all safety regulations that prohibit the carriage of passengers at the pilot’s seat). Apparently, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief set an example for him in his time. The entire federal press solidly and “unobtrusively” plays up the most winning elements of battles, military campaigns, and strategic missile launches. On TV, they show a beautiful picture of the amphibious landing.
Is it possible to consider that the Minister of Defense and the commanders of the districts received the practice of managing the strategic transfer of 800 paratroopers and marines using Aeroflot aircraft within a month? Can this be compared with the strategic transfer of two million fronts from Germany to the Far East in 1945? Or a closer example – with the dropping of 7750 military personnel, 890 pieces of equipment and 1060 tons of cargo by military transport aircraft within 55 hours to Kabul and Bagram?
According to the White Paper, the Russian army is still going to fight the United States, since the main task of the armed forces is to repel an aerospace attack. The society, on the other hand, is misled by statements about the ability of the current army to fight in global, regional or several local conflicts and to deliver preemptive strikes across the globe.
Analysis of the part of the President’s Address to the Federal Assembly, which is devoted to the army, allows us to conclude that the authorities do not know the real state of affairs either in the Russian army or in new areas of military development of the largest and most powerful states in the world, but in the old fashioned way hopes for PR – a campaign designed for a gullible layman who is not familiar with the intricacies of the issue, but who will like a stern look and beautiful phrases that do not always coincide with reality.
