What are the most common lacrosse penalties. How do penalties differ between youth and adult play. What equipment violations can result in penalties. How are unsportsmanlike conduct penalties enforced in lacrosse.
Common Lacrosse Penalties Every Player Should Know
Lacrosse is a fast-paced and physical sport that requires players to follow specific rules to ensure fair and safe gameplay. Understanding common penalties is crucial for beginners to avoid putting their team at a disadvantage. Let’s explore some of the most frequent infractions in lacrosse:
- Cross Checking
- Holding
- Illegal Body Checking
- Illegal Screen
- Illegal Sticks & Equipment
- Interference
- Offsides
- Pushing
- Slashing
- Tripping
- Unnecessary Roughness
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct
- Warding
Each of these penalties carries specific consequences, often resulting in loss of possession or man-down situations for the offending team. It’s important to note that the enforcement of these penalties may vary depending on the level of play and the discretion of the officials.
The Nuances of Slashing in Lacrosse
Slashing is one of the most misunderstood penalties in lacrosse, especially at the youth level. Contrary to popular belief, not every instance of a stick touching an opponent’s helmet results in a slashing call.
The official definition of slashing, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Rule 5.7, is: “Swinging a crosse at an opponent’s crosse or body with deliberate viciousness or reckless abandon, regardless of whether the opponent’s crosse or body is struck.”
To clarify, mere contact with an opponent’s helmet does not automatically constitute a slash. The contact must be a definite blow or strike to warrant a penalty. This distinction is crucial for players, coaches, and spectators to understand, as it impacts how the game is played and officiated.
Age-Specific Lacrosse Penalties and Enforcement
The application of penalties in lacrosse varies significantly between youth, high school, and college levels. Referees tend to be more stringent in calling penalties during youth games to prioritize player safety and proper skill development.
For instance, all body checks are illegal for younger players, whereas they may be permitted with certain restrictions at higher levels of play. The duration of penalties also differs based on the age group and level of competition.
To get a comprehensive understanding of the specific rules and penalty durations for different age groups, it’s recommended to consult the official rulebooks provided by governing bodies such as US Lacrosse or the NCAA.
Equipment Violations and Their Consequences
Proper equipment is not just a matter of compliance but also plays a crucial role in player safety. Lacrosse officials are vigilant about equipment violations, which can result in penalties. Some common equipment-related infractions include:
- Pockets that are too deep, making it difficult to dislodge the ball
- Sticks that are too short, providing an unfair advantage in ball protection
- Missing or improperly worn mouthguards
These violations often lead to penalties, especially in youth games where safety is paramount. Players must ensure their equipment meets the standard specifications to avoid putting their team at a disadvantage.
Understanding Offsides and Field Positioning
Offsides is a positional penalty that occurs when too many players from one team cross the midfield line. This rule ensures balanced play on both halves of the field. But how exactly does offsides work in lacrosse?
An offsides penalty is called when, for example, a defender carries the ball over the midfield line and a midfielder on the same team fails to stay back on the defensive side of the field. This violation results in a turnover and can significantly impact the flow of the game.
Players must be aware of their positioning relative to their teammates and the midfield line at all times to avoid this penalty. Proper communication and field awareness are key to preventing offsides infractions.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Beyond the Physical Game
Lacrosse is not just about physical skills; it also emphasizes sportsmanship and respect for the game, opponents, and officials. Unsportsmanlike conduct penalties address behaviors that go against the spirit of fair play. But what actions can lead to such penalties?
Unsportsmanlike conduct can include a wide range of behaviors, such as:
- Taunting opponents
- Using abusive language
- Disrespecting officials
- Excessive celebration
- Any action deemed detrimental to the spirit of the game
These penalties often result in player ejections or extended man-down situations for the offending team. Coaches and players must prioritize good sportsmanship to maintain the integrity of the game and avoid costly penalties.
The Role of Officials in Penalty Enforcement
Lacrosse officials play a crucial role in maintaining fair play and safety on the field. Their responsibility goes beyond simply calling penalties; they must interpret rules in real-time and make split-second decisions. How do officials approach penalty enforcement, especially in youth games?
In youth lacrosse, officials tend to be more proactive in calling penalties to ensure player safety and promote proper skill development. They may provide explanations for calls to help young players understand the rules better. However, the challenge lies in balancing strict rule enforcement with allowing the game to flow naturally.
Officials must also adapt their approach based on the level of play, considering factors such as player age, skill level, and the specific rules of the competition. This flexibility is crucial in fostering a positive learning environment while maintaining the competitive integrity of the sport.
Strategies for Avoiding Penalties and Playing Clean
While penalties are an inevitable part of lacrosse, players can adopt strategies to minimize infractions and play a cleaner game. What are some effective ways to reduce the risk of committing penalties?
- Focus on proper technique: Many penalties result from poor form or reckless play. By honing fundamental skills and body control, players can reduce the likelihood of committing fouls.
- Understand the rules thoroughly: A deep knowledge of the rules allows players to make split-second decisions that align with legal play.
- Maintain composure: Emotional reactions often lead to unnecessary penalties. Players should practice mental toughness and self-control.
- Communicate effectively: Clear communication with teammates can prevent positional errors like offsides.
- Regular equipment checks: Ensuring all gear meets regulations can prevent equipment-related penalties.
Coaches play a vital role in instilling these habits through practice drills and emphasizing the importance of clean play. By focusing on these aspects, teams can maintain a competitive edge while avoiding costly penalties.
The Impact of Penalties on Game Strategy
Penalties in lacrosse don’t just affect the individual player; they can significantly impact team dynamics and game outcomes. How do coaches and players adapt their strategies when facing man-down situations?
When a team is playing man-down due to a penalty, they often switch to a more defensive posture, focusing on protecting the goal and limiting scoring opportunities for the opposing team. This situation requires excellent communication, positional awareness, and disciplined play from the entire team.
Conversely, teams with a man advantage must capitalize on these opportunities to score. Coaches often have specific plays designed for man-up situations to maximize their scoring potential during these critical moments.
Understanding the strategic implications of penalties helps players recognize the broader impact of their actions on the field. It reinforces the importance of playing within the rules and maintaining discipline throughout the game.
Evolving Rules and Penalty Enforcement
Lacrosse, like many sports, continues to evolve, with rules and penalty enforcement adapting to enhance player safety and improve the quality of play. How have recent rule changes affected penalty calls in lacrosse?
In recent years, there has been an increased focus on preventing head injuries, leading to stricter enforcement of penalties related to hits to the head and neck area. Additionally, rules around stick checks and body contact have been refined to promote skillful play while minimizing the risk of injury.
These changes require players and coaches to stay informed about the latest rules and adjust their techniques accordingly. It also places a greater responsibility on officials to interpret and enforce these evolving regulations consistently.
As the sport continues to grow and develop, it’s likely that further refinements to rules and penalty enforcement will occur. Players, coaches, and officials must remain adaptable and committed to upholding the spirit of the game while embracing these changes.
The Psychological Aspect of Penalties
Beyond the physical and strategic impacts, penalties in lacrosse also have a significant psychological dimension. How do penalties affect player mindset and team morale?
Committing a penalty can shake a player’s confidence, potentially leading to hesitant or overly cautious play. This mental impact can extend to the entire team, especially if penalties result in crucial goals for the opposition.
On the flip side, successfully drawing penalties from opponents can provide a psychological boost, energizing the team and creating momentum shifts. Coaches must be adept at managing these emotional dynamics, helping players maintain focus and composure regardless of penalty situations.
Developing mental resilience and the ability to quickly refocus after a penalty is crucial for individual players and the team as a whole. This psychological aspect of penalty management is an often-overlooked but vital component of success in lacrosse.
Penalties and Player Development
While penalties are generally seen as negative occurrences, they can also play a role in player development. How can coaches and players use penalties as learning opportunities?
Each penalty call provides a chance for players to reflect on their technique, decision-making, and understanding of the rules. Coaches can use these moments to provide constructive feedback and teach alternative approaches to similar situations.
For youth players, in particular, experiencing and learning from penalties is an essential part of their growth in the sport. It helps them develop a nuanced understanding of the game’s rules and the importance of clean, skillful play.
By framing penalties as opportunities for improvement rather than purely as mistakes, coaches can foster a growth mindset among their players. This approach can lead to more resilient, adaptable, and knowledgeable lacrosse players in the long run.

Lacrosse Penalties for Beginners
This page provides information on common lacrosse penalties & fouls. Beginners and intermediate players should know these penalties in order to avoid putting their team at a disadvantage (as penalties often result in loss of the ball and/or in man-down situations). However, please be aware that lacrosse penalties vary between youth, high school and college play. In addition, lacrosse referees tend to be quicker to call penalties with younger players in order to avoid injuries.

Penalties by Age Group – For specific rules regarding lacrosse penalties by age group and for the time length of penalties, please visit the links below:
Common Penalties & Fouls for Beginners
- Cross Checking – When a player hits an opposing player with the middle of his shaft and the player’s hands are wide apart.
- Holding – Impeding an opposing player’s movement.
- Illegal Body Checking – There are numerous variations of this penalty but they focus on illegal body hits (i.e. a player using their body to strike an opposing player’s back). Moreover, all body checks are illegal for younger players.
- Illegal Screen – This is like a moving pick in basketball.
- Illegal Sticks & Equipment – Penalties are called with equipment and sticks that do not meet standard specifications. Examples include pockets that are too deep (because it is harder to dislodge a ball from an illegal deep pocket), sticks that are too short (because it is easier to protect the ball in an illegally short stick), etc.
- Interference – Interfering with the goalie while in the crease or the movement of an opposing player who does not have the ball.
- Mouthguard Violation – Referees, especially in youth games, call penalties if the player is missing a mouthguard or it is dangling out of their mouth. Mouthguards need to be in a player’s mouth in order to reduce the potential for injury.
- Offsides – When too many players go over the midfield line (i.e. a defender carries the ball over the midfield line and a middie on the same team does not stay back on the defensive side of the field).
- Pushing – Pushing can be called with possession (when the player is pushed over when holding the ball) or a lesser penalty is pushing without possession.
- Slashing – Hitting an opposing player with a lacrosse stick somewhere not on the gloves or stick (i.e. hitting them with a stick on the head or back).
- Tripping – When a player purposely trips another player (i.e. putting his stick between the legs of the opposing player).
- Unnecessary Roughness – When a player uses excessive force.
- Unsportsmanlike Conduct – When a player or coach does something “unsportsmanlike” (i.e. spitting on another player, taunting a losing team, etc.).
- Warding – When a player moves his arm to block an opposing player’s stick check.

Top 3 Most Misunderstood Rules in Youth Lacrosse
Youth lacrosse games are tough to officiate. The ball is on the ground more often, the players (for the most part) are still refining basic skills and the game doesn’t always have the smooth flow seen in higher-level games. Factor in age-appropriate youth rules differences and the game becomes harder to officiate and more confusing for new players, coaches and parents.
Gary Alabaster, a lacrosse official in California and speaker at the 2014 US Lacrosse National Convention, submitted a few rules he feels are the most misunderstood at the youth level. I have also seen and heard about confusion with youth rules while officiating in the southeast, working tournaments in the northeast, observing officials out west, and collecting reports from other trainers.
There are misunderstandings all over the country with those involved in boys’ youth lacrosse—and that includes officials. Here are the three we most commonly encounter.
1. Slashing
What We Hear
We as officials frequently hear “That was in the head!” when a spectator sees a stick touch the helmet of an opposing player, and the expectation is that a slash must be called.
How it Really Works
The understanding that “a stick [touching] the helmet of an opposing player” is an automatic slash call is flat-out wrong. The definition of slashing, according to NFHS Rule 5.7 on page 58 of the 2015 rulebook is: “Swinging a crosse at an opponent’s crosse or body with deliberate viciousness or reckless abandon, regardless of whether the opponent’s crosse or body is struck.”
Situation 5.7.1 further states that “B1 (the defender), while playing A1 (the offensive player), makes contact with A1’s head with his crosse. RULING: Contact itself does not constitute a foul. The contact shall be a definite blow or strike. Otherwise, it is considered a brush.”
Brushes still exist at all levels of play. Mere contact or touching of the helmet by the crosse of another player is a brush. If I called every touch to the helmet in a U9 or U11 game, I’d spent more time putting players in the penalty box then actually watching them play. A blow or strike to the helmet (or any vicious or reckless swing, even if it hits nothing) is the requirement for a slash to be called.
Keeping that rule and situation in mind, we must also add the youth rule 5.7.4 on page 106 that states: “Any one-handed check shall be considered a slash, whether or not it makes contact with the opposing player.” There are to be no one-handed stick checks in U15, U13, U11, and U9 games that are played under US Lacrosse youth rules. The majority of players at those age levels do not consistently demonstrate the necessary control to hit stick or glove on one-handed checks. Plus, they’re often out of position when throwing those checks and this rule prohibiting one-handed checks put an emphasis on proper defensive positioning.
Note: A poke check where the top hand comes off the crosse during the check is not considered a slash. Still need deliberate viciousness or reckless abandon for a slash to be called, and the threshold for what is appropriate rises with the ages of the players.
2. Offside
What We Hear
“The red team is offsides if they only have two defensemen back while on offense, or the blue team is offsides if they only have two attackman back while on defense.”
How it Really Works
First, this isn’t a youth-specific rule, but there is a general misunderstanding about this rule at every level. Second, the rulebook does not state “offsides,” it states “offside.” Small detail, but when it comes to officiating, it pays to pay attention to details. I explain offside to coaches and players very matter-of-factly: “I don’t care how many players are behind me. ” Rule 4.10.1 on page 39 supports that statement:
“A team is considered offside when it has:
A. More than six players in its offensive half of the field (between the center line and the end line) including players in the penalty box, or
B. More than seven players in its defensive half of the field (between the centerline and the end line) including players in the penalty box.”
Offside should only be called when the offense or defense has too many players on their half of the field.
3. Holding
What We Hear
“It’s illegal for one player to hold another player’s body or crosse with their body or crosse no matter where the ball is.”
How it Really Works
Holding is a tough call at every level of play. New officials have an especially difficult time with this call because there are some times when a legal hold is illegal, and other times where it is perfectly legal to hold, even if the player is not in possession of the ball. So let’s dig into the NFHS rule.
Rule 6.3, Article 2 on page 64 states, “A player may not:
A. Use the portion of the handle that is between his hands to hold an opponent.
B. Step on the crosse of an opponent.
C. Hold an opponent with his crosse.
D. Hold or pin an opponent’s crosse against the body of the opponent with his crosse.
E. Hold an opponent with his free hand that is off the crosse.
F. Hold the crosse of the opponent using any part of his body.
G. Use his crosse to hold or pin an opponent’s crosse on the ground on a faceoff.”
And Article 3 states, “ Holding is permitted under the following conditions:
A. An opponent with possession of the ball or within five (three for youth) yards of a loose ball may be held from the front or side.
B. An opponent in possession of the ball may be played with a hold check from the rear if the hold exerts no more than equal pressure. For (a) and (b), a hold check shall be done with either closed hand, shoulder, or forearm; and both hands shall be on the crosse.
C. A player may hold the crosse of an opponent with his crosse when that opponent has possession of the ball.
D. A player within five (three for youth) yards of a loose ball may hold the crosse of his opponent with his own crosse.”
That’s seven rules on what a player can’t do and four rules on what a player can do in regards to holding an opponent. That’s admittedly pretty complicated, so let’s break it down into three simple takeaways for youth play:
1. A player may, with his crosse, legally hold the crosse of an opponent so long as the opponent is in possession or within three yards of a loose ball.
This is the easy one, just think “stick-on-stick holding is legal within three yards.”
2. A player may legally hold, with his forearm or shoulder but NOT with his crosse, the body of a player in possession or a player within three yards of a loose ball so long as equal pressure is used.
This is the tougher one where official’s judgement comes into play and we are asking ourselves: “Did the player gain an advantage by using more than equal pressure?”
3. A player MAY NOT hold the body or crosse of an opponent who is not in possession and not within three yards of a loose ball (this may also be called as interference).
This is the main reasoning for the “ball down/release!” call that every coach wants every player to shout on every loose ball. Once the ball is more than three yards away, a player may not continue to hold or otherwise impede the movement of an opponent.
Even the simple rules can be a bit complicated, and between the different age levels, there is a lot to be aware of. I hope this breakdown of misunderstood boys’ youth rules helped you gain a firmer grasp on the correct rulings.

Top 10 Boys Lacrosse Rule Myths: Busted
The New Year is here, and that means it’s a good time for an update on my favorite rule myths in boys’ lacrosse, using the 2015 NFHS Boys Lacrosse rulebook. This post is meant for everyone involved in boys’ lacrosse, including officials. I’ve seen officials make incorrect rulings on just about all of the myths listed here, and I have also misapplied the rules on several of these myths as well. Learn from my mistakes and dig into the rulebook!
Please note that any time you see an asterisk (*) that means the rule has been changed or modified from the 2014 rulebook. Also note that this post is specific games played under NFHS rules.
NFHS Rule 4.
18.3 Situation B
“There is a loose ball in front of the crease. Goalkeeper reaches out to pick up the ball, and opponent checks goalkeeper’s crosse. RULING: Legal. Goalkeeper does not have possession of the ball.”
BUSTED!
Possession requires one of four things:
- Carrying
- Cradling
- Passing
- Shooting.
Clamping is not possession, and the goalkeeper’s crosse, while it is outside the crease, may be legally checked by the opponent even if the goalkeeper’s body is in the crease and he is not in possession of the ball. In the image below, the exposed part of the goalkeeper’s crosse is fair game unless he gains possession.
NFHS Rule 4.6.3.c
“When a loose ball goes out of bounds as a result of a shot or deflected shot at the goal, it shall be awarded to the team that had an inbounds player’s body nearest to the ball when it became an out-of-bounds ball, at the point where it was declared out of bounds. […] In determining which player is nearest, the ball is considered out of bounds when it crosses the plane of the end line or sideline. Note: For the purposes of this rule, the stick is not considered a part of the player’s body.”
BUSTED!
Possession is awarded to the team who has an inbounds player’s body closest to the ball WHERE it went out and WHEN it went out. In the image below, White #44 is closest to where the ball went out and should be awarded possession. Every player still reaches out to the line or dives in an effort play to gain possession for his team. This is a natural thing to do on the field, and even though the stick doesn’t count, the hand is a part of the body and that could make all the difference on a close chase.
NFHS Rule 4.6.3 Situation D
A1 shoots at goal, and the ball goes over the goal toward the end line. A2 tries to catch the ball in flight, and the ball hits his crosse and goes out of bounds. A2 is nearest to the out-of-bounds spot. RULING: Ball awarded to Team A.
BUSTED!
The ball could ricochet off two player’s bodies, three helmets, and six different sticks on a shot and whichever team has a player inbounds closest to the point when and where the ball went out will get the ball.
NFHS Rule 2.1.1
“A team shall begin the game with at least 10 players, and must have a legally equipped goalkeeper on the field at all times, or it forfeits the game.”
NFHS 2.1.3 Situation
Team B has fewer than seven players remaining due to penalties, injuries, ejections, etc. RULING: Because Team B has fewer than seven players on the field, the game may not continue and it shall be reported to the sponsoring authority.
BUSTED!
10 players and a legally equipped goalkeeper are required for the game to start. Putting a midfielder in between the pipes with an extra glove tied to the bottom of the helmet in lieu of a throat protector (it’s been tried) does not meet the requirements of a legally equipped goalkeeper. The situation referenced is a new rule for 2015 and was put in for both safety and fairness. If a team gets down to less than seven on-field players, the game ends. Teams are not permitted to pull the goalkeeper off the field either. But, they could flip the goalkeeper to the opposite half of the field in place of an attackman to have an extra short stick to press the ball in a short-time situation (have seen this exactly once in seven years).
NFHS 4.7.1 Situation A
Player A1 has the ball in the back of his crosse. (a) A1 attempts to pass, shoot or flip the ball out of the crosse and the ball stays in the crosse head when it should come out; (b) the back of A1’s crosse faces the ground, but the ball defies gravity and does not fall out; (c) A1 hits his own stick with his hand or arm in order to dislodge the ball; (d) A1 kicks his own stick in order to dislodge the ball; (e) A1 hits the ground with the stick in order to dislodge the ball. RULING: In all five cases, officials will rule that the ball is stuck in the head of the crosse, because it is not coming out of the head with a normal lacrosse move. Immediate whistle, with possession awarded to the opponent (withholding the ball from play).
BUSTED!
The rule itself was not changed, but this situation was added because this myth simply won’t die. Boiled down, if the officials see evidence that the ball is stuck, there is no one shake, two seconds of shaking, shaking until the player reaches the restraining line, or any other form of shaking permitted. There is an immediate whistle and the ball is turned over.
NFHS Rule 7.9.2 Situation A
“A1 takes a shot from midfield. B2 illegally checks A2, and the ball enters the goal. RULING: Slow whistle, goal counts. B2’s violation, if technical, is wiped out; if personal foul, B2 serves penalty time. Faceoff.”
SOMETIMES!
Live-ball personal fouls (slashes, trips, illegal body checks, etc.) are always served, even if a goal is scored during the flag down, because these penalties are about safety and a goal shouldn’t wipe out a violent slash or an unnecessary hit away from the ball. Live-ball technical fouls are wiped out if a goal is scored during the flag down because technical fouls are about advantage. A hold isn’t a safety issue, and if the offended team scores, then they smartly took advantage of their free play and the penalty is wiped off.
NFHS Rule 6.11
“A player in possession of the ball shall not use his free hand or arm or any other part of his body to hold, push or control the direction of the movement of the crosse or body of the player applying the check.”
BUSTED!
If the defender executes a good lift check and forces the offensive player to lift his free arm over the defender’s stick and turn away from the pressure then both players are playing good lacrosse! Unless the offensive player uses his free hand to hold, push or control the crosse or body of his opponent, then there is no foul. Lifting an arm free is perfectly legal.
NFHS Rule 6.4
“No offensive player shall move into and make contact with a defensive player with the purpose of blocking a defensive player from the man he is playing, nor shall the offensive player hold his crosse rigid or extend his crosse rigid to impede the normal movements of the defensive man. If contact is made between offensive and defensive players as a result of the offensive player’s setting a screen, the offensive player shall be stationary before the contact occurs, with his feet no wider than shoulder-width apart. NOTE: There has to be contact to be called illegal offensive screening.”
BUSTED!
The second-most common shout from the fans is “moving pick!” It is seldom correct because even though the offensive player may be moving, without contact there is nothing to call. The other time that phrase is yelled is when the offensive player sets a great pick, is totally stationary on the initial contact, but there is movement after the two players meet.
NFHS Rule 5.3.3
“Body-checking of an opponent who has any part of his body other than his feet on the ground” is an illegal body check.
a. BUSTED!
There is no rule anywhere that prohibits a player from playing from the ground. You can pass, catch, and cradle from the ground for as long as you like. Just don’t try to cover up the ball with your body, because you will likely be called for withholding the ball from play.
b. BUSTED!
You cannot body check a player who is on the ground. This would be an illegal body check for 1, 2 or 3 minutes, depending on how the official judges the severity of the hit.
c. CONFIRMED!
You can stick check an opponent’s crosse and his hands holding his crosse with your stick while he is on the ground. Just because a player is on the ground doesn’t mean he can’t be stick checked.
NFHS Rule 4.8
“A goal is scored when a loose ball passes from the front, completely through the imaginary plane formed by the rear edges of the goal line, the goal posts and the crossbar of the goal, regardless of who supplied the impetus.”
BUSTED!
Resting on the line or hitting two or more pipes means the entire ball did not fully cross the rear edges of the goal line. The diagram below illustrates that even if the ball touches on the line it still isn’t a goal until the entire ball crosses the entire line.
In closing, it’s often said that ignorance of the law excuses no one. Do your part to help educate new players and fans by knowing the rules.
Over to you. Were you surprised by any of these rule myths? Is there another rule clarification you’d like to hear an explanation for? Let us know in the comments section.
Gordon Corsetti is the manager of men’s officials education at US Lacrosse.
Slashing? : lacrosse
It seems every time I miss someone’s stick or hand, I’ll get slashing called. And the Simeon the refs won’t even wait for two or three hits but only one in the arm or back.
Well, that is what the rule says is a slash. Technically speaking, the only legal checks are on the stick or on a gloved hand holding the stick. What you’re probably not liking is that at higher levels, they often don’t call it very tight. However, even at the D1 level, if you whack a guy in the back and don’t come close to getting stick, it’s probably going to get called a slash.
How do I cut down on these penalties?
Focus on using more force and less momentum when you throw checks. When you lift weights, you don’t get any kind of moving start, your hand starts on the weight and you push (or pull). You’re capable of applying a very large amount of force this way. In terms of throwing checks, that means use a short choppy motion rather than a big windup where you try to get your stick moving as fast as possible. Your checks will be quicker and more accurate, but just as (if not more) effective.
Often times young players think it’s all about how fast they can throw the check because fast checks hurt the most, but don’t confuse that with effectiveness at knocking the ball out. If I shoot the ball at you very fast, it’s going to hurt, but it probably won’t knock you backwards. If I walk up to you and shove you in the chest, it won’t hurt, but you will take at least step back. Checks are the same way. It’s all about moving the offensive players’ stick to knock the ball out.
2. Stop throwing so many slap checks. How often does one of your slap checks actually dislodge the ball anyways? 1 in 20? 1 in 30? Chances are that you’re throwing checks that you know have virtually no chance at actually doing anything. Instead of a bunch of big slap checks, utilize more poke checks or throw a check and keep it there on his hands ready to lift or disrupt a pass or shot. Not saying to never throw a slap check, but try and limit it to the ones that actually have a chance to do something.
Too many young defenders are basically only trying to throw a big slap check that will knock the ball away. Against good players this is going to be a fairly rare event (the very best D1 defenders only do it 2 or 3 times a game). Instead, worry more about disrupting whatever the offensive player is trying to do. Taking a big windup means there is a moment when an attackman’s hands are free to throw a pass. If your stick is already on his hands or just inches away, you can disrupt whatever he is trying to do. It doesn’t take much to throw off a pass or shot and prevent a goal.

The Premier Lacrosse League Brings AI Chatbots to Fans with ‘Slash’ from EventBots
Los Angeles, CA (September 17,2019) – The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) formally announced its partnership with EventBots by Sciensio as a key piece of its tech-forward, fan-first approach. In conjunction, both parties have created and implemented the interactive fan bot, ‘Slash’, an automated response customer service tool for fans online and via text at PLL event sites
Since ‘Slash,’ the official PLL EventBot, went live in June during the league’s inaugural weekend, the bot has delivered a 94.7% Correct Response Rate to thousands of fans asking about everything from tickets to parking to player rosters. At games, fans have engaged with the chatbot via SMS text and on the PLL website – getting quick responses in the process without having to directly interact with customer service representatives.
“The response has been phenomenal,” says PLL’s VP of Operations Andrew Sinnenberg. “Our fans love using Slash to dive into team rosters, answer game-day questions, and buy merchandise. All of their gameday needs are met by using Slash. We are particularly excited by how engaged they have been. Using the bot, we have seen a 45% click-through on key promotions.”
Bob Caldwell, Founding Partner of EventBots, has echoed the same sentiment. “The PLL is transforming the fan experience at every level. We are excited to bring our AI to fans to make it even better.” Caldwell continues, “With an AI Chatbot like Slash, fans get instant answers to their questions using the devices they already have and know how to use: their cell phones.”
The Premier Lacrosse League is the first organization of its kind, utilizing a tour-based model to drive widespread exposure for the world’s best lacrosse players. This summer, PLL has visted 13 major North American cities and every weekend Slash answers questions for fans at each distinct venue, 24×7.

December 25, 2013, Stanford University Stadium, California
– So, less than ten minutes are left until the end of the game, and the coach of the Californian team makes the last legal substitution. The magnificent and invincible… brothers Stilinski come out onto the field!
The stadium explodes with a cheer that makes both ears pop for a short time.
– That’s impressive, eh, brother? Scott pats Stiles on the shoulder.
– Still impressive? You and I are no longer two losers from the bench. Grow up brother!
– It still sounds like music to me.
– Come on, brother, let’s pour these pathetic amateurs properly.
They planned to spend Christmas with their family, as befits good American guys, but the National Lacrosse League’s Christmas charity match is a good enough reason for the older sons to be away from the table on Christmas Eve, even for parents like Stiles and Scott.
Stiles, unlike his brother, isn’t upset at all. A student party is much more fun than a family dinner with parents and sisters who are too young to be interesting with them.
-… and the Stanford University team beat their rivals with a crushing score! We remind our viewers that all proceeds from ticket sales will go towards gifts for orphans with autism and ADD.
“It will definitely be on the front page,” Scott nods contentedly.
– Since childhood, my brother and I dreamed of becoming champions, – with a radiant smile, Scott tells reporters (who else, and Stiles never dreamed of becoming a star – the ultimate in his dreams was at least occasionally to go out on the field), – and every free minute was used for reinforced workouts.
– It’s no secret that for many young athletes you are idols, they imitate you …
– Yes, and this is a great responsibility. Therefore, I never do what I cannot tell my mother about later.
The journalists laugh politely.
– What advice would you give to today’s high school students who dream of pursuing the same brilliant sports career as the famous Stilinski brothers?
– Stay true, guys, do not follow the lead of the bad guys who will offer you drugs and alcohol, train hard … And find yourself some good friends.
Scott puts his arm around Stiles’ shoulders and they both smile for the cameras.
– How do you like my speech? Scott asks quietly.
“Rare shit,” Stiles replies in an undertone. “You have outdone yourself today. I would also advise them to wash their hands before eating and read the Bible before bed. They are healthy young boys, not elderly nuns.
– I cannot advise them: take an example from my dissolute brother, who does not meet any girl more than three times.
– Last question guys. How did your sports career take off?
“We’ve come to this a long and hard way…” Scott starts, and Stiles stops listening. This question is asked at every interview, and he knows almost by heart what Scott is about to tell. He always says about the same thing, only slightly rearranging the words.
It’s weird that whenever Scott speaks about this, Stiles somehow starts to think of something else entirely.
…
he cautiously sneaks to the exit on tiptoe, wearing only socks, and then a heavy father’s hand falls on his shoulder.
– Hi Dad, how are you?
– Did you listen to my conversations on the radio again?
– No, that is … Only the most interesting.
The Sheriff gives an expressive look at the boots in Stiles’ hands.
– I wanted to run over to Scott’s for a while. Homework in Mathematics …
– Are you having problems with him?
Stiles hesitates and then gives out, making an honest face:
– To tell the truth, not from me, but from Scott … Dad, just don’t say that you never cheated when you were in school!
Stiles has long learned a simple truth known to every teenager – if you don’t want to complicate your life, then be less frank with your parents.
Given his father’s professional flair, the sheriff will not buy a completely ingenious lie, but if you mix it with the truth in a reasonable proportion, it will work out. It worked this time too.
– Well, if so, I’ll give you a lift. You shouldn’t go alone in the evenings – you’ve overheard enough not to argue with that. Moreover, we need to talk.
Father’s car smells familiarly of cigarettes, old leather and, slightly perceptibly, of gunpowder and gun grease.
Even in a quiet town like Beacon Hills, the sheriff often had to stay late at work.Sometimes his little son was looked after by one of the housewives, whose children went with him to kindergarten or elementary school. In other cases, the father had to take him with him – not to leave the boy alone in an empty house. Stiles seems to have spent half of his childhood in the seat of his dad’s car. In any case, it was much better than being bored in the police station under the watchful eye of the person on duty.
“I’ve always wanted you to have a normal family, Stiles,” Dad says suddenly, as if overhearing his thoughts.- Of course, you should have thought about it earlier, and not now, when you are almost grown … Yes, and I am no longer young, but Melissa is also not a girl, and you get along very well with Scott.
– You and Mrs McCall? Stiles breaks into a smile involuntarily. – Wow! Scott said that his mother started dating someone, and I also noticed that you are too often late after work, but I could not imagine …
– We went to lacrosse together – to root for your team, talked a lot, and somehow it worked out by itself … So you don’t mind?
– Of course, dad! This is a great idea! Mrs. McCall is wonderful, and I’m very glad you won’t be alone when I leave for college. And Scott likes you. By the way, how did he receive the news?
– I don’t know, she’s been going to tell him for a few days now. But now, as I understand it, the problem has been solved – you will tell him everything immediately, won’t you?
Stiles nods absentmindedly, mentally he is already at Scott’s house and tells him that they will soon become kind of brothers.
Their new relationship begins very impressively – scared by the noise under the window, Scott almost treated him to a blow of a baseball bat.
– Styles! What the hell are you doing here?
– You didn’t answer the phone. Why do you have a bit?
– I thought it was a predator …
– You’re in California, dude, not the jungle of Vietnam! Where do the predators come from? Fuck, you scared me terribly! Now put the bat down and listen – I’ve got some awesome news.
He did not remember the half of the corpse found in the forest that evening. Stiles was no longer interested in this case, and besides, it turned out to be not so mysterious – in hot pursuit the sheriff arrested a certain Derek Hale, who turned out to be the brother of the murdered girl.A banal story – the guy went crazy, suddenly losing his family, and besides, he suffered from some strange seizures, and, it seems, during one of them he killed his sister.
Despite this, he was found sane, and the jury gave him a life sentence – he was lucky that it was not the death penalty, as his classmates, who were heatedly discussing the “case of the gloomy maniac”, believed.
Stiles listened to these conversations with half an ear – he didn’t care about the unknown Derek Hale, whom he never saw. He was much more interested in what was happening in his own family.
Scott and Melissa moved into Stilinski’s house, and after a few days it seemed to him that it had always been this way.
Pancakes for breakfast, neatly sewn on the sleeve of your favorite sweater – how many things you threw away simply because there was no one to fix them! These were pleasant little things, and most importantly, my father began to come home early, and his eyes shone with youth.
Scott started dating a new girlfriend, Alison, and then Stiles had a better personal life, just after he became the captain of the high school lacrosse team. The permanent cap Jackson Whitmore left his post on the eve of the new season – he fell ill with some strange skin disease, and his parents took him to be treated, according to rumors, somewhere in Brazil, to the local shamans. Stiles didn’t really believe in this story, something else was more important – due to the rearrangements in the team, he and Scott were on the first line.
Without Jackson, his buddies were much less aggressive, and Stiles finally managed to show his best side, and the rare mutual understanding between him and Scott turned them into an excellent tandem that managed to bring the school team to the state championship.Along with the title of captain, Stiles also received Lydia, who suddenly found a lot of hidden advantages in him – she was always a smart girl, and this did not pose much of a problem for her. As well as depriving Stiles of his annoying virginity, tactfully pretending that she has no doubt about his experience.
They went to the university with a sports scholarship, which was very handy – with the income of the sheriff and the nurse, the parents could hardly send their two sons to college. Before leaving, Scott changed his last name, and they arrived at college as the Stilinski brothers.
At a Christmas party that was about to turn into a regular college drinking binge, Stiles, after a moment’s thought, decides to roll balls to Lily – girls with such tits usually do not refuse men. Guys flock to their outstanding charms like flies on jam, and if Lily didn’t like it, she wouldn’t be wearing a dress with such a deep neckline. It’s funny that until recently, girls seemed to him mysterious creatures, and female psychology – matter much more complex than quadratic equations. It turned out that sometimes you just need to study the subject more closely and in more detail, so that it loses all its mystery.
Stiles usually chooses girls with catchy looks, defiantly sexy and rounded shapes. And it’s not that just such a type turns him on. In fact, he likes skinny short-haired brunettes with small breasts and narrow hips much more. And to be quite frank, which he does not allow himself even with Scott, Stiles experienced the most vivid sexual experience last season, after a joint training session before a friendly match with the student team of the Academy of San Carlos.
He accidentally lingered in the locker room, and the captain of the opposing team, a tall and dark-skinned handsome Miguel, pushed him to the wall and sucked him up to the tonsils. It even seemed to Stiles that Miguel was about to devour him like a boa constrictor of a rabbit. He smelled of sweat and musk, stubble scratching Stiles’ cheeks, and a stone cock bumping into his thigh. He should have shoved Miguel away, or better yet, kicked the insolent man in the face, but Stiles just gasped and gasped as the damned Latino squeezed his ass, mumbling affectionate words in his ear mixed with obscenities in that terrible jargon that they consider to be English. He almost yelled when Miguel thrust his hand into his pants – not out of indignation, but out of acute pleasure. Miguel’s broad, rough hand, covered in coarse calluses from the club, worked wonders for Stiles’ cock, wet and sticky from the grease leaked from the head. He came shamefully in the palm of his hand, with a kind of girlish squeal, and Miguel just laughed, managing to move his hand along his cock, which – as if to add the last drop to Stiles’ humiliation – was bigger and thicker.

Stiles didn’t pay any attention to Scott’s jokes about Isaac being his best friend.Stilinski did not take it seriously, continuing to chop monsters in Quake with McCall, and after school with him in lacrosse. But there was something that only Isaac of his friends could understand.
This is a co-viewing of Men’s Health magazine.
For Scott it was just boring and kindling for the fireplace, and for Isaac it was a great selection of hot guys. And that’s where Stiles fully supported him.
– Wow, these are the cubes. I would test this press for strength.
Leihey looked around, excluding bystanders, and sat down next to Stiles, on whose lap was the new Men’s Health issue. During the daytime, the loft was usually empty while the Hails were wandering about their mysterious affairs, so the teenagers could have plenty of fun on the second floor, where the common room was located.
Stiles ran his eyes over the cover, his gaze lingering at the model’s muscular torso, and couldn’t hold back the soft “Wow.” Isaac made his way to their favorite section on fitness and strength training, and the guys began to scan the first pages with affectionate excitement.
“If I had legs like this, I’d only wear skinny jeans,” Stiles says enviously, eyeing a dark-haired man without a shirt in only tight low-waisted jeans.

Nora Sakavich “Fox hole” – review M_Aglaya
School-College-Academy, Sports Passion and Thriller. Warning! A book for slashers. (thinking) Especially for those who hang out in fandoms and fanfiction. It seems to be called bromance there. )) The rest will be incomprehensible and uninteresting.)))
Plot: teenager Neil Josten has been on the run and illegal since childhood. Changing cities, names, appearance, he tries to hide from his father and his gang. With such a life, one does not have to hope for any close and friendly relations with peers, teachers … Neil is used to surviving alone and looking at the world with caution. The only joy in life for him is sports – a kind of game exi . Some kind of mixture of lacrosse, rugby, favorite, in general, American games. Everything changes for Neil, when another coach in another school suddenly showed his participation and, on his own initiative, contacted coach Vaymak, who organized the Fox team in a certain academy. The peculiarity of this team is that it includes completely disadvantaged teenagers – juvenile criminals, drug addicts, victims of domestic violence, and so on. As if the idea is to give them a chance to return to normal life. So far, despite the solid financial investments, the Foxes are not happy with their tournament success. But Wimak is full of optimism – in the end, the team managed to get through for the last time … somewhere there. And he’s determined to include Neal on the team. Neil, on the one hand, really wants to get into the team, because this is a completely different level and different conditions for the game. But on the other hand, recently Kevin Day, an exsi superstar, joined the Foxes, and Neil does not want to intersect with Kevin at all, since they encountered in his previous life, before escaping … Neil is afraid that Kevin might recognize him even then. the end of all conspiracy. But Kevin, in general, does not really care about Neal, he himself has secrets and a difficult past. Anyway, all team members are dark horses and it is not known what to expect from them. Some openly bully and show hostility, others are friendly, but somehow they ended up in the Foxes? What’s Neal to do? Try to run before it’s too late? But the passion for the game is already drawing him tight… In addition, the secrets of the team members and the dangers that threaten them are gradually revealed to him. Really throw them at a difficult moment … So, the death tournament begins!
Yeah …)) the book is specific. ))) And although I read a little fanfiction, it is pure fanfiction, natural fanfiction and nothing else. )) And this simple, empty text, and barely marked characters (almost by hair color!))) – all the same relies on a ready-made base. And these fandom gadgets – who looked at whom, ambiguous remarks, accidental touches… all sorts of languor …))) I just do not know for what exactly fanfic. Go to some youth TV series, or anime. Maybe even from some kind of drama. Here the Japanese Yakuza clan suddenly appears. ))
But it was interesting. )) Tightens. I would like to know what will happen next and how it will all end. So what about the rest of the books? ))
Moreover, if we take the official storyline – sports affairs, then, it seems to me, everything here can be predicted with an accuracy of 99%. )) This is all so American, one of their favorite topics, and it makes my jaw go down.))) A team of weaklings and losers is taken, they wind each other with a positive attitude, train until they turn blue, make a breakthrough and chop the coolest and meanest team into cabbage. Goodness and justice triumphed, and along with them, ordinary American guys. I am sure it will be the same here.
But as for the bromance – there is complete uncertainty. )) There are so many interesting and promising guys in this regard that you are lost in guesses. ))) Who will eventually get along with GG. A couple of frames have already formed, loving to casually look into his beautiful blue eyes.))) I would not even be surprised if the Villain, who was drawn to the final of the first book, is also involved. And what – the guy is also a prominent, enchanting, slashers, it seems to me, are not used to throwing such material …)) This is the main intrigue of the cycle. )))
