How can you soften lacrosse mesh effectively. What are the best techniques for improving mesh flexibility. Why is softening lacrosse mesh crucial for better performance.
The Importance of Softening Lacrosse Mesh
Softening lacrosse mesh is a crucial step for players looking to improve their game. Hard mesh can cause the ball to rebound unpredictably, making it difficult to control and retain in the pocket. By softening the mesh, players can enhance their ability to catch, cradle, and pass the ball with greater precision.
When considering softening techniques, it’s essential to take into account factors such as fiber ply, denier, and material construction. After applying any softening method, always test the mesh’s performance by practicing catching, retaining, and passing. If the ball doesn’t slip out of control and you feel comfortable with the mesh’s responsiveness, you’ve likely achieved the right level of softness.
Fabric Softener: A Quick and Effective Solution
One of the fastest and most effective ways to soften lacrosse mesh is by using fabric softener. This method can produce impressive results in a relatively short time.
Step-by-Step Guide to Using Fabric Softener
- Find a bucket large enough to accommodate the entire lacrosse mesh.
- Fill the bucket with hot water, maintaining a temperature between 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Add 3-4 tablespoons of fabric softener to the water. For an enhanced playing experience, consider adding a few drops of liquid fragrance.
- Invert the lacrosse stick and submerge the mesh in the solution for 20-30 minutes.
- Remove the mesh, rinse it under running water, and allow it to dry.
- Test the softness by trying to catch a ball. If satisfied, you’re done. If not, repeat the process 2-3 times until the desired softness is achieved.
Can fabric softener damage the mesh? When used in moderation and with the correct water temperature, fabric softener is generally safe for lacrosse mesh. However, excessive use or exposure to extremely high temperatures may potentially weaken the fibers over time.
The Pressing and Pounding Technique
Another effective method for softening lacrosse mesh involves pressing and pounding. This technique requires more time and effort but can yield excellent results.
Using a Lacrosse Ball
Start by using a lacrosse ball to press against the mesh fibers. Begin at one end and systematically work your way across the entire inner surface area. This process is gradual and may take several days of consistent effort to achieve the desired softness.
Utilizing a Lacrosse Mesh Pounder
For a more efficient approach, consider using an OEM lacrosse mesh pounder. These tools typically consist of an STX-ball fitted onto an aluminum handle. To use:
- Apply moderate force while pounding the mesh from one end to the other.
- Cover the entire inner surface area systematically.
- Test the softness after each session by practicing catches and ball control.
This method is generally faster than using a lacrosse ball alone and can often be completed within a day or two.
Is it better to use a branded pounder or a DIY version? Opting for a branded lacrosse mesh pounder is generally recommended. These products are designed specifically for the task and are more likely to produce consistent results without damaging the mesh.
Wall Rebound and Catch: A Dual-Purpose Technique
The wall rebound and catch method serves a dual purpose: it softens the mesh while simultaneously improving your lacrosse skills. This technique involves consistently practicing wall ball for 20-30 minutes per session.
Benefits of Wall Rebound and Catch
- Gradually softens the mesh through repeated ball contact
- Improves footwork and hand-eye coordination
- Helps the mesh develop a natural shape tailored to your playing style
- Enhances overall stick skills
While this method may take longer to achieve the desired softness compared to other techniques, it offers the added benefit of skill improvement. Initially, controlling the rebounding ball may be challenging, but persistence is key. With consistent practice, you’ll notice the mesh softening and conforming to your playing style within a few days.
How often should you practice wall ball to soften your mesh? For optimal results, aim to practice wall ball for at least 20-30 minutes daily. This consistent exposure to ball contact will gradually soften the mesh while improving your skills.
Spray Starch: A Quick DIY Solution
Spray starch offers a convenient and relatively quick method for softening lacrosse mesh. The softening agents in the spray can be absorbed by the mesh fibers, leading to increased flexibility and softness.
Using Spray Starch Effectively
- Apply the spray starch evenly across the mesh surface.
- Allow the mesh to soak for 10-15 minutes after each application.
- Rinse the mesh thoroughly with cold or warm water.
- Test the softness by practicing wall ball or catching.
- Repeat the process if necessary until the desired softness is achieved.
With consistent use, spray starch can effectively soften your lacrosse mesh within a day or two. You can either purchase commercial spray starch or create your own DIY version at home.
Is homemade spray starch as effective as store-bought versions? Homemade spray starch can be just as effective as commercial products when prepared correctly. To make your own, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 cups of cold water, then heat the mixture until it thickens. Allow it to cool before use.
The Hot Water Method: A Simple Yet Effective Approach
The hot water method is one of the simplest techniques for softening lacrosse mesh. This approach leverages the power of heat to relax the mesh fibers, resulting in increased flexibility and softness.
Steps for the Hot Water Method
- Boil a pot of water large enough to submerge your lacrosse head.
- Once boiling, remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly (aim for very hot but not scalding).
- Submerge your lacrosse head and mesh in the hot water for 3-5 minutes.
- Remove the head and immediately shape the pocket to your desired depth and position.
- Allow the mesh to cool and dry completely before use.
This method can be particularly effective for new mesh or for rejuvenating older mesh that has become stiff. However, it’s crucial to exercise caution to avoid damaging your lacrosse head or burning yourself.
How often can you use the hot water method without damaging the mesh? While effective, the hot water method should be used sparingly. Excessive exposure to high heat can potentially weaken the mesh fibers over time. It’s best to limit this technique to once every few months or when absolutely necessary.
Combining Methods for Optimal Results
While each of the aforementioned techniques can be effective on its own, combining methods often yields the best results. By integrating multiple approaches, you can achieve a more comprehensive softening effect and tailor the mesh to your specific preferences.
Suggested Combinations
- Fabric Softener + Wall Ball: Start with the fabric softener method for initial softening, then follow up with regular wall ball practice to further break in the mesh.
- Hot Water + Pounding: Use the hot water method to relax the fibers, then employ the pounding technique to shape and further soften the mesh.
- Spray Starch + Pressing: Apply spray starch to the mesh, allow it to dry, then use the pressing technique with a lacrosse ball to work the softening agents into the fibers.
By experimenting with different combinations, you can find the perfect softening routine for your lacrosse mesh. Remember to always test the mesh’s performance after each softening session to ensure it meets your needs.
What’s the most effective combination for quickly softening new mesh? For rapid results with new mesh, consider combining the fabric softener method with immediate follow-up wall ball practice. This combination provides both chemical and physical softening, often yielding noticeable results within a day or two.
Maintaining Mesh Softness Long-Term
Once you’ve successfully softened your lacrosse mesh, it’s important to maintain that softness over time. Regular use and exposure to the elements can cause mesh to stiffen, but with proper care, you can keep your mesh in optimal condition.
Tips for Long-Term Mesh Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Rinse your mesh with cool water after each use to remove dirt and sweat.
- Proper Storage: Store your stick in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Periodic Re-Softening: Apply your preferred softening method every few months or as needed.
- Consistent Use: Regular play helps maintain mesh flexibility.
- Weather Protection: Use mesh wax or waterproofing spray in wet conditions to prevent stiffening.
By incorporating these practices into your routine, you can ensure your lacrosse mesh remains soft and responsive throughout its lifespan.
How does climate affect mesh softness, and how can players in different regions adapt? Climate can significantly impact mesh performance. In humid environments, mesh may absorb moisture and become heavier, while in dry climates, it may stiffen more quickly. Players in humid areas should focus on keeping their mesh dry between uses, while those in dry regions may need to soften their mesh more frequently.
How to Soften Lacrosse Mesh: 5 Easy Tricks
The hard mesh is made of twisted woven fibers which are highly resistant to heat, humidity, and harsh environmental conditions.
Softening techniques should consider the fiber ply and denier apart from the material construction. After washing you can test catching, retaining and passing convenience. If you are comfortable and the ball doesn’t slip out of control, you can be sure of softening level to be just fine.
In this article, I’ll show you guys 5 easy to apply techniques, or as I prefer to call them ‘tricks’, that will help you soften lacrosse mesh.
Why Bother Soften Lacrosse Mesh?
You need to soften the lacrosse because the hardness factor can make the ball rebound and make it go out of control.
You won’t be able to make the ball land into the pocket and retain it while moving across the lacrosse field.
Long story short, YOU SHOULD.
5 Easy Techniques To Soften Lacrosse Mesh
– Trick # 1 – Fabric Softener
Using a standard fabric softener for performing the task can do wonders. It is also stated to be the fastest way of softening the mesh.
Step-1: Take a bucket which has sufficient dimension to hold the entire lacrosse mesh. It would be better if the volume is a bit larger than the space occupied by the mesh to ensure complete rinsing.
Step-2: Pour hot water into the bucket. The temperature should be preferably between 70 and 80-degrees. Higher temperature may damage the fibers and lower temperature could be insufficient for softening.
Step-3: Add 3 to 4 spoons of fabric softener. You may also add a few drops of liquid fragrant to enhance your playing experience.
Step-4: You may invert the lacrosse stick and dip the mesh into the bucket. Soak it for 20 to 30 minutes at a stretch. Take it out and test the softness. Wash it in running water, dry it and try catching the ball. If it is working fine you can stop and relax. Or you may have to dip the mesh back into the bucket and soak for some more time. Repeat 2 or 3 times until you are finally satisfied with the results. Dry the mesh and start playing.
– Trick # 2 – Pressing and Pounding
Using the lacrosse ball, you need to press it over mesh fibers. Start from one end and proceed to cover the entire inner surface area. It is a slow process which may take several days of effort.
Alternately you can use an OEM lacrosse mesh pounder. It is made of an STX-ball fitted onto an aluminum handle. You can pound the mesh at modest force from one end to cover the entire inner surface. It is a relatively faster procedure compared to using lacrosse ball.
After every pounding, you need to test the softness effects on catching, retaining and controlling. The procedure may take several attempts, but you can complete it within a day or two.
Selecting the pounder with the right steel ball is the most important aspect of lacrosse mesh softening. The recommended practice is to choose a branded product rather than opting for a cheaper version or DIY method.
Alternately, you can use a lacrosse ball for pounding instead of pressing. However, this approach may take patience and persistence on your part. The probability of change in pressure and force may vary during a pounding session. Hence, you need to concentrate on the task and make it highly accurate.
Make sure you place the mesh on a hard surface without any traces of dust, dirt, or other contaminants. It is to avoid frictional forces from damaging the mesh fibers.
– Trick # 3 – Wall Rebound and Catch
Wall rebound and catch is a method, which can soften the mesh besides improving your footwork. You need to practice it consistently for about 20 to 30 minutes per session. It is one of the best methods of softening the mesh and providing a natural shape to it.
Alternately you can practice the catch and passing workout with your teammate. This process could consume relatively more time compared to the wall rebound, but it can soften the mesh just according to the standards.
At the beginning of the task you may find it hard to control the rebound from the ball. You may also feel the stick going out of your control. But the recommended method is to stick to the task and continue. You can experience the mesh softening according to the playing conditions within a few days.
– Trick # 4 – Spray Starch
Spray starch consists of softening liquid which can complete your task within a day or two of consistent usage. The ingredients of the liquid can get absorbed by the mesh fibers.
You need to soak the mesh for about 10 to 15 minutes every time you spray. Then you can wash it with cold or warm water. Test the softness factor by practicing the wall rebound exercise. If the ball control is fine, retention is longer, and passing is easy, you can consider it to be the most effective method.
You may choose to buy a spray starch off the shelf or prepare it at your home. Take 3 or 4 corns and take out the seeds. Soak them in hot water and grind finely to make a paste. You can control the thickness factor according to your specific requirements. Cool it and store it in a bottle.
– Trick # 5- Use another Lacrosse Stick
The unconventional method is to use another lacrosse stick handle to rub the fibers gently but firmly. We found this method to work more efficiently than the others and the time has taken is also relatively lesser compared to the pounder and lacrosse ball.
Take your time and slowly press the lacrosse stick handle onto the fiber from all over the inner surface. Keep testing the softness factor by the wall rebound method. You can get the desired within two or three days of continuous effort.
Conclusion: Final Words
You may choose any of the above methods that we have explained. You can experience the real effects while playing on the field in real time.
If one of the tried and tested methods doesn’t produce the desired results, you can try the other options. Make sure you don’t cause any damages to the fibers while softening.
6 Tips for How to Soften Lacrosse Mesh
A lacrosse pocket typically comes with a hard mesh which requires breaking in before you can use it in an actual game. If the mesh is not property broken in, it will remain stiff and you won’t be able to catch the ball effectively or to cradle it well following the catch.
There are many ways to soften lacrosse mesh. Some of them are more effective and useful than others. Here are some top tips for how to soften lacrosse mesh.
#1 – Understand the Pocket Type
Lacrosse pockets come constructed in a variety of materials. Typically, these include woven leather, nylon and mesh. The problem with woven leather is that although it makes for a quality pocket, it requires a lot of adjustments on the part of the player.
Nylon pockets are easier to break in but require extensive care. Mesh pockets offer excellent strength and durability and require little maintenance but they require a serious effort to break in. So once you have identified your lacrosse pocket as a mesh pocket, it is time to understand how to soften it to make a good pocket.
#2 – Go With the Classic Method
The classic method of softening lacrosse mesh is to take a lacrosse ball and press it into the mesh. This is a slow process and you need to keep doing it intermittently over many days before the mesh finally softens enough. The right depth of the mesh is typically when the lacrosse ball can easily sit between the top and lower edge of the sidewall when inside the pocket.
However, it also depends on your personal preferences and style. A practical way to determine the right amount of mesh softening is to practice catching the lacrosse ball with the softened mesh. If you are able to catch and retain the ball well, the mesh has softened enough and is good to go.
#3 – Practice With the Stiff Mesh
Another classic way of breaking in lacrosse mesh is to actually practice catching with it. This may take you even longer to soften the mesh but this way, the mesh will soften and the pocket will take a shape that is more natural and more attuned to your catching style.
You can do this on your own by hitting a lacrosse ball against the wall and then catching it with your stick. Initially, the mesh will be stiff and the ball will experience serious rebound. But gradually, it will soften perfectly.
#4 – Use a Pocket Pounder
If you’re not into the method mentioned above, there is a more convenient and quick way to soften lacrosse mesh. This requires a small tool called a pocket pounder. A pocket pounder is typically a mallet-shaped tool with a lacrosse head.
You can use it to pound the mesh on both sides until it softens it. To speed up things even further, you can use a bit of warm water. Pour the water on the threads while you pound it with the pocket pounder and you will be able to soften the mesh sooner.
#5 – Using a Fabric Softener
A number of quality fabric softeners are available which allow you to soften lacrosse mesh in virtually no time. However, it is important to use the fabric softener correctly. In order to do so, you will need a bucket half filled with hot water, a cup-full of fabric softener and your lacrosse stick.
Place the lacrosse stick in the bucket so that the mesh is fully covered in hot water. Now add the cup filled with fabric softener to the water and let the mesh rest in the solution for nearly half hour. Then take out the mesh and rinse it with clean water. By this time, the mesh will be soft enough so that you can easily turn it into a pocket of your preferred size.
#6 – Take the Unconventional Route
The standard way to soften lacrosse mesh is, as stated in the classic methods above, simply to practice it and pound it with an actual lacrosse ball. That should soften the hardest mesh given the right time. However, in some cases, such a method can take a very long time.
And then there are the unconventional methods. The fabric softener mentioned above is one such method. A number of other methods are used by players to soften lacrosse mesh. This includes using untraditional fluids such as hair conditioners to soften up the mesh threads, working the interior of the pocket with the barrel end of a strong baseball bat or use crazy solutions such as a dip in paint thinner.
So basically, it is quite possible for you to come up with your own unconventional solution to soften lacrosse mesh. However, it is worth nothing that some methods are safer than others. Using paint thinner, for instance, is not advisable since it is somewhat dangerous and the results can be unexpected.
So experiment with different softening materials while staying on the same side. And at the same time, remember that sometimes the fastest softening method is not the best. So be ready to patiently wait for the mesh to soften, no matter what method you use.

Breaking in your new mesh: The basics
There’s no right or wrong way to break mesh in as long as you are trying. There are, however, some tricks to get that new stringing job ready for use. Many players believe that your wand is game-ready, but they are sadly mistaken. Just like baseball players and their weathered gloves, we must pay close attention to our pockets.
First, there are many different kinds of mesh – soft, durable, hard, Canadian, and a few in-between. Second, there has to be pocket depth. And thirdly, you have to be comfortable with your pocket in order to get the best out of your ability, so try different kinds.
Soft: Soft mesh does not need to be broken in. The mistake people make with soft mesh is not making the pocket deep enough. Soft mesh is awesome for players that like to do a lot of stick fakes because the pocket forms around the ball. Brine’s soft mesh is a great example and is considered paramount by some of the best in the game.
Durable, hard, Canadian, and a few in-between: These types of mesh pieces need some work in terms of breaking in. The upside to them is that you can place your pocket (where the ball sits) anywhere you want. All you need is lotion, Vaseline, hot water, and a screwdriver.
Whether your stick is strung or unstrung, the first thing you should consider doing is running hot water from the faucet over your mesh. Once you’ve done that, stretch it to the max. This method relaxes the material, just like it would if you were playing in the rain. You can apply the water to a specific spot or all over.
The fun begins once the stick is strung. LPG prefers lotion, but many have been known to use Vaseline on their pockets. We know this method sounds funny, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Lather up the pocket and gently work it in with a ball.
The final tip involves a screwdriver. After you’ve poured water or lotion or both, slide a screwdriver through a few holes on the same line of mesh and twist lightly until you can’t twist anymore. Do it where you want the ball to sit and “voila” you’re ready to rip corners.
These are the basics of breaking in that new mesh, but its just a start. Check back for more tips in the coming days or give your two cents below. How do you break in your new mesh?

This kind of mesh was always used in the history of lacrosse mesh and suits varied positions and skills of level of players in lacrosse.
Semi-Soft Mesh
Made from softer material, semi-soft mesh is designed to be easy to stretch and string but it can also be easily broken in. Head with mesh will create pocket that comfortably moves with ball leading to better control, responsiveness and improved quality of hold.
Semi-Hard Mesh
As the name suggests, these are stiffer, can easily create a smooth release and the right kind of consistency. Compared to semi-soft mesh, it takes longer to break in and can perform extremely well during wet weather conditions.
How To Pick The
Best Lacrosse Mesh
Choice must be made depending on quality, stringing, pattern and its type.
Type
Before making the final purchase, there is a need for you to explore what type of mesh you need or the kind of mesh you are picking from – soft, semi-soft, semi-hard or hard? What best suits your game?
Pattern
Considering the pattern of the net is an extremely important factor in your purchase. Usually, the holes are designed in a diamond shape but they are available in multiple arrangements and sizes.
Stringing
The more pliable the net, the better it is to handle. You may want a mesh that is much easier to string.
Quality
Quality can affect your game dramatically. Companies produce the best quality products that are available in the market after having passed multiple testing. The rest depends on the buyer. Carefully consider the construction and material that is an essential part of its design process.
Lacrosse Mesh FAQ
- Q: What are the Differences between semi hard vs semi soft lacrosse mesh?
Ans: Here are the main advantages of using Semi Hard mesh – Ball usually doesn’t rattle; hard mesh promises a better life and dependability during rains. Pockets have a long life span and shapes stay consistent. The cons of using Semi Hard Mesh – Hard to string as the mesh is quite rigid. It’s hard so it takes a long time for pockets to break in.
The main advantages of using Semi Soft Mesh are – Not much time needed in the game for being ready, it starts to work as soon as the head is strung. Soft mesh gives a better idea about the placement of the ball to the player. It’s easy to string as well. On the flip side, the main disadvantages of using Semi Soft lacrosse Mesh are – Mesh tends to lose shape. If the mesh is filled with water during rains, the stick can become harder for the throw. The soft mesh can easily shift and hence requires good maintenance.
Researching on the kinds of mesh and knowing how each of them performs will surely help your pockets be prepared to perform at its best in every season.
- Q: Which Lacrosse Mesh Is Best for Me?
Ans: Technically, it all comes down to your own personal preferences depending on your style of game. Players that are more interested in shooting on run and use plenty of dodges will more likely pick a mesh that can support a lot of power in shots. Semi-soft mesh suits their gaming style. Players who believe more in feeding other teammates and are quick in getting the ball out of their mesh sticks may choose semi-hard mesh.
- Q: How To String The Mesh in A Lacrosse Stick?
Ans: String at the bottom. Knot one end of string and wrap through the left hole in the bottom. Tie a double knot to the opposite end of the string right onto the burn tip. Push up string through the left hole in the bottom and then pull it all tightly.

Grid chain-link 10 * 10mm wicker, uncoated –
10×10 mm Chain-link with a small cell
Grid Chain-link with a small cell 10x10mm is made from wire with a diameter of 1.4 mm.
Rolls of woven mesh with a fine mesh 10×10 mm have the following standard dimensions:
- height 1.5 m,
- length 10 rm
To prevent the rolls of woven 10×10 mesh from snagging each other, they are wrapped around the edges with thick paper, burlap, or polymer film.
But since paper and burlap have the properties of tearing, the movement of the mesh should be minimized in order to avoid your injury and damage to the chain-link.
Some factories produce a Rabitz mesh with a fine mesh 10×10 in rolls 12, 16 or 18 m long.
In case you need a mesh of a higher height, we can custom-make a height of up to 4 meters.
The service life of the braided mesh 10×10 depends on whether it is galvanized or not.
Since the mesh Chain-link with a small cell 10×10 mm is made of
low-carbon wire OK , then according to GOST 3282-74, the surface of a wire with a diameter of 1.4 mm should contain from 50 g / m 2 zinc.
There is a galvanized chain-link 10×10 mesh on the market, but with a zinc content on the surface of about 10-20 g / m 2 . This mesh will begin to rust in 1-2 years. After 7 years of use under normal conditions, there may be no zinc left on such a mesh, but it will serve for a long time.
Metal mesh with a fine mesh 10×10 is used for filtering various materials and breeds, making cages for animals.
If you need a chain-link mesh for fencing a land plot or construction site, then we advise you to choose a lightweight Kazachka mesh.
Weight 1m 2 mesh The chain-link 10×10 is 2.84 kg. The price of the grid Chain-link 10x10x1.4 depends on the volume of the order.
The production of the mesh Chain-link 10×10 takes place in the factory, according to GOST 5336-80.
Mesh tolerances 10×10 chain-link are provided in GOST and are:
- cell with plus tolerance up to 1mm;
- mesh width tolerance – up to 15 mm.
In order to see what the mesh Rabitz 10×10 looks like, attach a ruler to the screen, hold down the Ctrl key and scroll the mouse wheel until the divisions on your ruler coincide with the divisions on the screen.
You can also visually compare the Rabitz mesh 10×10 with other mesh sizes.
How to install a chain-link fence: installation tips
Mesh-chain-link is a practical, inexpensive, durable material for the construction of fencing. Fences made of metal mesh are most often installed in the private sector – they enclose the territory of cottages and country houses, gardening and agricultural plots, zoning the space, separating a place for rest, planting or an animal enclosure with a net.
Also, the chain-link mesh can be used for fencing industrial, warehouse and other buildings, various structures.
The material is steel wires intertwined to form cells. The netting-netting made of wire of large diameter is supplied in sections, of thin wire – in rolls.
Types of netting mesh: which is better
Plastic and flexible mesh small chain-link is made of low-carbon steel, rigid and durable – from stainless. Also, the netting chain-link is available with and without coating.
The following types of products are distinguished:
- metal mesh netting without galvanizing – the cheapest and most short-lived option, lasts, on average, up to 3 years, needs tint, suitable for creating a temporary fence;
- galvanized mesh netting – it costs more, lasts longer, does not require anti-corrosion treatment and other maintenance;
- mesh netting polymer (plasticized) – has a strong metal frame with a wire thickness of 2.5 mm, reinforced with polymer, looks more aesthetically pleasing, can last more than 50 years;
- mesh plastic chain-link – cheap material, resistant to humidity, temperature extremes, is characterized by elasticity and low weight, lower strength, is most often used for zoning in personal plots.
Also, the material differs in the size of the cells. The most common sizes of cells in metal meshes from the manufacturer are 50×50, 40×40. Plastic ones often have non-standard sizes – 18×18, 32×32, etc.
Structures and methods of installation of fences from a netting mesh
A fence option that does not require much time for installation is a tension fence. This design provides for fastening the netting of the chain-link without the use of additional clamps, the stack is hooked to the posts by hooks on the supports.
A chain-link fence without welding and additional clamps is reliable, but short-lived: such a fence will sag over time.
There are more practical ways of attaching the netting of the chain-link: clamps, wire, “sewing” the cloth with wire ties to the posts.
The sectional frame is the most reliable and durable. It can even be made of rolled mesh: fasten the netting of the chain-link to the iron corners, and then attach the finished sections to the posts. You can buy ready-made sections from a manufacturer of metal products, such a material from a chain-link mesh will cost more, but it will save installation time.
What types of pillars are used when installing
- Pillars made of scrap materials for the netting mesh, for example, from water pipes, are not the best solution: they do not have hooks for fastening and look unaesthetic.
- Ready-made metal pillars of the chain-link mesh are the best option. They are produced in different sizes, are inexpensive, serve for a long time, look harmonious in combination with a metal mesh-netting.
- Pillars made of wood for the netting of the chain-link are extremely impractical – it is necessary to provide waterproofing of the supports, to process the wood in order to avoid damage by insects. It is advisable to install such pillars between the mesh netting only to create temporary fences.
- Pillars for a mesh concrete chain-link have the best strength indicators, but the cost and complexity of mounting the canvas on such supports determine their low demand.
Features when installing a fence from a chain-link
It is very easy to install a fence from a chain-link mesh.Difficulties usually arise only when mounting on a slope. In this case, high pillars are installed at the lowest points, allowing the canvas to be fixed low on one side, and high on the other. It is important to choose the length of the span so that there is not a large gap between the ground and the fence.
Advantages and disadvantages of mesh fence
- A significant advantage of the chain-link mesh is cost. Arranging a metal wire fence is very cheap.
- The low weight of the netting of the chain-link provides savings in delivery of material to the object and ease of working with the material.
- The mesh cells of the chain-link contribute to the penetration of sunlight into the site, which is why the material is often used to fence flower beds and vegetable gardens.
- Other arguments in favor of a chain-link fence: high strength, durability, no need for maintenance if galvanized material or a polymer-coated chain-link is used.
- Important: the standard height of the netting in rolls or sections does not allow building high fences.
Installation and installation procedure
- The foundation for the installation of a fence made of a chain-link mesh is rarely poured. To fix lightweight material, pillars buried in the ground are enough. It is advisable to make the distance between the supports the same. If wooden poles are used, they must be waterproofed at the place of immersion in the ground and treated with an antiseptic.
- The mesh is being prepared – it is rolled out and cut into fragments. The extreme rows of cells must be “stitched” with wire.
- At this stage, the netting of the chain-link and the metal frame is welded for the subsequent fixation of the finished sections on the supports, or the fastening of the net-netting to the posts on the hooks. If you do not know how to fix the netting, when there are no special fasteners on the supports: we recommend making your own hooks from metal wire and weld them to the posts.
Why should you buy a netting from us
We offer to buy material at a bargain price: the netting is supplied from the manufacturer with delivery to Tyumen and other cities of the Russian Federation. Available and on order – a wide range of netting netting: mesh sizes – from 1 to 25 cm², wire diameter – from 1.2 to 4 mm.

Grid chain-link – types for the fence: small, steel, wicker, coated
The fence is an important element of a country building. It should be not only durable, but also profitable, with a long service life, and a pleasant appearance. In the conditions of a huge selection of fences, choosing a high-quality structure is a difficult task.
Which type of mesh would you choose?
From metal From plastic
Grid Chain-link is a universal product for fencing the territory of a summer cottage, cottage, garden or bath.
It has all the necessary protective properties, quickly installs and creates comfortable conditions for plants. Thanks to the cellular structure, the chain-link fence is cheap and durable.
We will understand in more detail what a chain-link mesh is, let’s talk about the varieties and materials of mesh production. We will find out where such a fence is most often used and how to maintain such a fence with our own hands.
What is a netting chain-link
The net was created and patented by the German designer Karl Rabitz in 1878.Since then, this building material has conquered the whole world due to its simplicity and wide functionality.

Vladimir Ulyanov
I have been dealing with fences for more than 10 years, I answer questions and help people cope with the installation task on their own.
Ask an expert a question
The product represents rods intertwined with each other, creating diamond-shaped cells. The rods or wires for the mesh can be composed of a variety of materials. Due to the unusual structure, the canvas is elastic, but durable.
Woven mesh netting is installed in metal frames and supplied to the market in ready-made sections. Either the wire remains in its original form and is rolled into rolls, which are subsequently pulled onto the supporting pillars of the future fence.
The finished fence has the following advantages over other types of fences:
- low cost;
- quick assembly;
- elastic material;
- long service life;
- does not interfere with plants;
- provides air circulation;
- Allows the beams to penetrate the fence.
Types
The characteristics of a chain-link fence strongly depend on the type of construction. A product is distinguished by the material from which it is made or by the type of coating. The coated mesh netting can have several mesh sizes and different roll lengths. Sometimes the chain-link is divided according to the method of weaving rods. Let’s highlight the following main types of mesh:
- Ordinary non-galvanized mesh. A common type of fencing.
It is often found in dachas and buildings where there is no need to take care of the fence all year round.Due to the untreated surface, the material is easily destroyed by the environment: snow, rain or dirt. The places where the twigs are woven are more often affected, and the mesh is torn by external physical impact on it. Of the advantages – the raw material is much cheaper than analogs with a protective coating. - Galvanized chain-link. A more advanced fence fence option. Thanks to the processed rods, such a fence is not afraid of snow or water. The material perfectly counteracts external factors and lasts an average of 15 – 25 years. The steel fence turns out to be more durable, but at the same time the cost of one section of such a fence rises.
- Polymer coated mesh. The plasticized surface of the fence adds additional strength and resistance to external influences to the metal wire. Such a fence does not need constant maintenance, and in case of contamination it can be easily cleaned with a stream from a garden hose. The service life of a polymer-coated fence reaches 50 years.
Which type of mesh did you like the most?
Plain Galvanized With a polymer coating
Production of mesh
Production of a chain-link cloth is an easy, but not fast process. It is important for the manufacturer to comply with all technical requirements and standards so that the mesh does not fall apart and serve its owners for a long time. The process of making mesh for subsequent sale is as follows:
- Metal sheets are rolled on a machine and rods are created. The length is 2 or 5 meters, and the width depends on the elasticity of the future fence.
- On a special apparatus, the rods are intertwined, forming a strong lattice fabric.
- In some places, the mesh is fastened with additional metal tape if the roll is large. This is for added strength.
- If you plan to make a fence in the form of sections, then a metal frame is created into which a finished roll is installed using self-tapping screws or welding.
- The final step is to treat the structure with special coatings or protective varnishes.
The following types of mesh are produced:
- Rolls 2×10 or 5×10 for high fences. Such fences are reinforced with additional transverse lags.
- Cell 55×55 or 50×50.The smaller mesh provides additional strength and material retention.
Scope of application
- production areas – factories, factories, agricultural fields;
- to create comfortable conditions – in children’s educational institutions, schools, kindergartens;
- for private needs – in summer cottages, cottages and other buildings;
- to delineate the territory.
The use of the chain-link structure is not limited in any way, and the fence from it is used everywhere.
In particular, the design is popular with summer residents and homeowners in large villages, since the chain-link does not contradict the standards for installing fences.
Features of operation
The beauty of a chain-link fence is that it does not require constant maintenance to maintain normal operating conditions. This is especially appreciated in those areas where people do not spend time around the clock and leave the area unattended.
If the mesh fence is dusty or has traces of dirt on it, simply spray the wall with a hose.Even if the fence is not galvanized, this will not greatly affect the life of the fence.
It is even easier to mount a fence to separate the future site. In this case, two options are possible: using a roll of chain-link or ready-made sections. If you purchased a canvas without a frame, then stretch it onto the support posts and secure with self-tapping screws. We recommend that you install special hooks on them in advance so that it is more convenient to create tension on the structure alone.
If you bought a panel-section, then simply install them on the poles by welding or fix with special bolts. Before installation, hooks must be welded or holes must be made for fasteners.

Welded wire mesh
Welded metal mesh is one of the most popular in Krasnodar. Such a mesh is made by resistance welding of wire rods located at right angles to each other. As a material for production, various types of low-carbon, stainless or galvanized steels are used, less often A3 reinforcement or polymer-coated wire. The characteristics and size of the finished product are regulated by GOST 23279-85, 8478-81.
Galvanized metal mesh
To extend the service life of the welded mesh, it is additionally treated with zinc to increase protection against corrosion and external aggressive factors.
Galvanized metal mesh is produced in two ways:
- Ready-made galvanized wire is welded;
- Conversely, first a mesh is welded from low-carbon steel, and then the finished product is processed to create a zinc coating.
Mesh chain-link
The characteristics of this mesh are regulated by GOST 5336-80. Low carbon steel is used as the material, because such material is more amenable to processing and drawing for wire production. And the already obtained wire is first formed and bent in a certain way, after which it is intertwined. The result is a mesh ideal for fencing, fencing, building cages and animal enclosures, etc.
If you need a metal mesh, no matter with a small or large mesh, and no matter what type (galvanized, chain-link, welded, etc.)) – by contacting our company you will not be disappointed with either the price or the quality of the products.

Use of chain-link mesh and other woven mesh
Braided mesh has a very durable coating (galvanized, etc.), which completely covers the wire and has an excellent appearance. This is easy to see if you try to bend or twist the wire. In this case, the coating will not flake off and fall off.
Woven mesh with a dense and thick coating, which is used in construction and in the construction of fences, is obtained by hot-dip galvanizing. It increases the thickness of the coating and makes the wire more durable. This, in turn, protects structures made of such a mesh from harmful corrosion and extends its service life by several decades.
Woven mesh production is carried out using modern automated lines or machines in different ways:
- From galvanized wire with and without PVC coating, a single or double mesh is produced, which has diamond-shaped cells and is made of flat or round wire spirals.Uncoated black wire and stainless steel wire can also be used as material for such nets.
- In the production of mannier nets by the method of double or triple twisting, the formation of hexagonal cells occurs by alternately twisting two wires. One enters the weaving zone on the machine from coils, and the other from long tubes. A more economical option is a mesh made from low-carbon wire, with or without galvanizing. An expensive option is a stainless steel mesh.
- The meshes used in gabion structures have hexagonal cells, which are formed using the double twisting method. They are made from low carbon galvanized wire and can be galfan / polymer coated.
Wicker mesh (chain-link) has several types, which differ in the area of mesh cells:
- the smallest – the area of the cells is less than 0.025 sq. mm,
- smallest – 0.025 – 0.25 sq.mm,
- small – 0.25 -1 sq. mm,
- average – 1 – 25 sq. mm,
- large – 25 – 625 sq. mm,
- especially large – more than 625 sq. mm.
Scope of use of woven nets:
- In construction, wicker nets are used for reinforcing brick and oven masonry, for plastering and concrete work.
- In manufacturing, they are used as enclosing structures in hazardous areas. They are used to make partitions and protect equipment. The screens are widely used as screens for separating various fractions.
- Stretched over a frame or fixed to poles, galvanized mesh is widely used as a fence.
- Mesh parts are used in the furniture industry (eg bed sheets). Various containers are produced from it, as well as other spatial structures and design incarnations.
- The nets have found their practical application in animal husbandry and poultry farming. In the cages of this material, rabbits, birds, etc. are kept.d.
- Strengthen sections of roads and embankments with the help of woven nets. They are used in the construction of gabions.
Fine metal mesh – a universal product in various fields of application
Fine-mesh metal mesh can rightfully be called a universal material and, in some way, unique. Simple in design, the tool is widely used, while not being burdensome for the budget. What is the popularity of this material and what are the arguments for its use?
Types of metal mesh with a fine mesh by production type
Metal fine mesh is made from metal raw materials suitable for this purpose. These can be thin metal plates, strong steel wire with different cross-sectional configurations, small diameter reinforced rods and other metal blanks.
For production, stainless or galvanized steel with low carbon content is used. Also, the production of fine mesh with a polymer coating has been established.
Fine metal mesh with different mesh configurations is used in construction practice:
- Square mesh
- Grid with diamond cells
- Round mesh material
- Metal meshes with trapezoidal cells
- Hexagonal mesh
No less versatile and the scope of this material:
- Manufacturing of enclosing structures for an outbuilding
- Production of mesh for fencing building sites and basements
- Application on livestock complexes for the construction of corrals and cages
- Making mesh for plastering procedures
- For strengthening and reinforcing structures of foundation foundations
Welded metal mesh
In the category of welded metal mesh, two types are distinguished:
- Galvanized wire mesh
- Non-galvanized welded mesh
Both types of this mesh are produced from wires with a diameter of 1.4-4.0 mm.Steel for the wire itself must necessarily be low-carbon. Such products perfectly withstand any temperature conditions and tolerate their sharp fluctuations well. Resistance to aggressive effects of external factors of chemical or biological origin is also noted.
Due to its properties, welded metal mesh can be used with a high degree of efficiency and longevity in external plastering works, in the manufacture of filter structures and as a fencing element.
Grid chain-link wicker
The netting chain-link is one of the most famous and popular materials. It is very often used in the manufacture of fences, fences and enclosures for animals, for the device and reinforcement of road surfaces, in the production of protective production screens, as well as for the reinforcement of plastered surfaces.
According to the type of cell, the netting of the chain-link can be different, and the diameter of the cells varies from 10×10 to 100×100 mm. For its manufacture, it is customary to use metal with a polymer or galvanized coating; in some cases, an uncoated mesh is produced, designed for painting.
Depending on the type and size of the cells, wire with a diameter of 1.2-6.50 mm is used for the production of the chain-link mesh.
The netting chain-link is profitable for budgetary reasons and because of the low labor intensity during its installation. Moreover, it can function for decades without reducing its functional properties.
Twisted metal mesh
This category of metal meshes has another name – Magnier mesh. It was first used in Australia to install long fencing to protect against rabbit infestations.
Its peculiarity is that it has a hexagonal cell configuration and several twisted turns at the junction of parallel wire strands with a diameter of 10-100 mm.
Twisted mesh is used more widely today:
- For road surface reinforcement
- For strengthening the banks of reservoirs
- When reinforcing industrial glass grades
- And it is also used as a fence and for plastering
Woven mesh
Woven mesh is produced by the method of close perpendicular weaving of fibers.Usually woven mesh is used for plastering works, for the manufacture of screening structures, conveyor lines. For these purposes, a grid with a square cell section and a wire diameter of 0.2 mm is produced.
When constructing fences made of this material, a mesh with cells up to 12 mm is used. It can also be used for purification of air masses in production, filtration of liquids and fractionation of bulk materials.
Expanded mesh
Expanded mesh is one of the most durable types of metal mesh.It is made by die-cutting and simultaneous stretching of the steel base. As a material, metal strips of low-carbon steel with a diameter of 0.5-0.8 mm are used. During the drawing process, diamond-shaped cells are formed. Since the cells are a monolithic structure without seams and joints, such a mesh is quite strong and durable in operation.
Among the characteristics of expanded metal mesh – low specific weight, versatility of applications, durability and resistance to various external manifestations.
Slotted metal mesh
This type of mesh is produced by assembling individual elements. First, metal grates are produced, placed vertically and parallel to each other. Metal studs are attached to them at right angles, forming rectangular cells. The studs are mounted on special hinges on the grate profiles.
Prefabricated mesh
This type of mesh is somewhat reminiscent of a chain-link, only it is made from pre-deformed metal elements. They have a bend at the junction or grooved processing. The advantage of the prefabricated mesh is its quick installation and durability. It is used in almost all areas – for reinforcement, fencing, filtration.
Price for a metal mesh with a fine mesh
The price of small metal meshes is influenced by the presence of galvanizing or polymerization of the material, the size and format of the cell, as well as the diameter of the wire.
But even with identical parameters, the price may differ depending on the size of the mesh fabric.
The choice of metal meshes should take into account their practical use. And for this functionality, the cell parameters and other characteristics should be determined.

Blueberry bushes and vines
It is recommended that the net be hung at least 6 inches above bushes or vines. This will prevent birds from sitting on the net and eating fruit outside of the net. Many people will hang the net from several posts around the perimeter.
Vegetable Garden
Wrap individual plants or hang netting around the entire garden for protection.
Cornices / Open spaces
Garden Net is a lightweight plastic net designed for temporary use. To set up the net so birds do not get caught under eaves or open space, many people use ultra-fine net clamps.Others will use a stapler to secure the mesh around the perimeter.

Diamond Mesh Netting used as shockproof netting
When purchasing Diamond Mesh Netting, the best option is to install curb cables, curb cables make installation quick and easy.home page, for small grid panels you have several options depending on how the grid is used, if the grid is not used as a bump panel and without borders, the square grid option is a good option.
If the net is being used as a kick net, one option is to tie the braided twine around the net panel, which is time consuming but cheaper, you will need to purchase # 60 braided nylon twine or use your own twine or a small rope.
Here is an example of a 10 ‘x 10’ Golf Impact panel purchased from Diamond Mesh without the curb cable option, instead using a # 60 braided nylon twine stretched over the edge.
The first step is to cut about 45 feet of twine and start stringing the top edge and then down on each side.
Then attach the top two corners with carabiners (carabiners) or other clamps.
Tie the twine to the bottom corners or use carabiners (snap hooks) or other clamps, then tighten the twine in one bottom corner, this will tighten both sides and the top.The last step is to pull on the bottom and tie it, in the picture below we pulled the # 60 braided nylon twine starting about 1 inch from the corner on each side, then tied the twine about 1 foot from the bottom to create a grab pocket. balls, if this mesh is used as a shockproof mesh, it is best to order the mesh about 20% wider to create a sag of the mesh to absorb impact and leave more mesh at the bottom to create a pocket, for the 10ft square frame you want to order the mesh with diamond mesh 12ft wide x 10ft high followed by 1 spool of # 60 braided nylon twine from equipment page
In the last shot, we used two ball bungees on each side to attach the net to the posts for a finished look.To order this installation, you will need:
1 Net using netting calculator
1 PC. # 60 Braided nylon twine
2 x 10ft steel poles (poles supplied with carabiners)
2 carabiners if you don’t buy steel poles
4 ball bungee
If you need a different net size, such as 12 feet by 12 feet, you will need 14 feet 6 inches wide, 10 feet high and 12 feet, or if you need a wider net, say 14 feet high x 20 feet wide. want to order a net 24ft wide, 14ft high and three 14ft uprights
For golf, hockey or lacrosse you can use # 15 or # 21 x 3/4 “, better for baseball, softball, soccer or soccer net # 36 x 1-3 / 4” will work

Wire mesh | Garden support net for plants
Why use a trellis net?
Maximum yield, high quality and faster harvest every reason to use Trellis braiding support. Train your plants to optimal position and size on a light but strong trellis net. Whether you’re growing vertically or horizontally, a well-designed trellis grid system can keep plants in their natural shape.
Trellis
mesh is available in a variety of materials including nylon mesh with soft mesh and durable plastic. To support curly vegetables and cut flowers, choose from a variety of mesh types and sizes on these pages.
How to use the lattice mesh?
Plastic and nylon trellis netting designed to restrict the spread of plants and ensure their thriving. Trellis is designed to withstand the stresses of its work. The benefits of lattice mesh include ease of use, light weight, durability, and weather resistance. The nylon trellis mesh is soft and delicate, but it is able to hold the stems and vines that attach to it as it grows. It is strong enough to support whatever weight your plants might throw on it.
The garden lattice mesh can be suspended vertically, as to the edge of the roof. It can even be stretched between two vertical stakes to form a straight wall. For horizontal use, pull it over the A-frame from the two corner sides, like a tent. When choosing a netting, the main thing to consider is how heavy your plants will be and how big you will allow them to grow. Larger, heavier plants may require a thicker mesh.
Trellis net takes up very little storage space. Simply fold or wind the excess mesh back onto the mesh roll.
How to install and install the lattice mesh?
Grow room and greenhouse trellis should be installed by connecting to vertical posts throughout the garden, often around the perimeter. If you are using a grow tent, you can use the structural supports of the grow tent to anchor the trellis.
The Trellis
Net is most often secured with zip ties connecting it to your vertical posts, or simply wrapping it around the post. You want the trellis netting to be as dense as possible so that the trellis netting will train your plants, not the other way around.
Mesh Net for Low Load Training
LST or Low Load Training and related techniques can benefit from the use of a mesh with a net.The mesh improves air circulation, increases light access and makes harvesting easier. LST increases your yield and simplifies your growing process by placing as many of one or more plants under your grow lights.
More advanced LST methods include:
- SOG – Green Sea . The goal of SOG is to get as many plants per square foot as possible and then quickly move them to the flowering or flowering stage. This produces many smaller plants with more rectilinear growth and limited lateral branching.
- ScrOG – Green screen . In this method, you have fewer plants per square foot than SOG. This optimizes the available space for one or more individual plants. The result is several large or one larger plant with all the lateral branches trained to grow through the trellis. ScrOG allows as much light as possible to reach as much of the plant as possible.
DIY mesh bow – Flowerindustry.ru
Good day, dear reader!
Today we have prepared a small master class for you on the topic “DIY bow from the net”.
Master class in video format, video tutorial of one of our paid courses in floristry, which was sold in 2009-2010. The information is relevant, many create such bows when making flower bouquets and delivering flowers.
Gradually we will lay out all the floristry lessons from our old video courses.
Here’s an interesting bow you will learn how to make from a mesh.
More photos of bows from the net and the master class on making bows with your own hands from the net, see below.
We need the right packaging for the flowers, namely the net.
Basically, any flower net for bouquets will work, but in order to reduce the cost of production of such bows from a net, it is better to use a cheap option.
The mesh is either soft or rigid. It is much easier to make bows from a soft mesh with your own hands.
Also, the mesh is dense, in which the fibers intersect very often with each other, and sometimes it is rare, the latter usually costs more. But from a rare mesh, very beautiful bows are obtained.
After watching the video, you can make different bows from different kinds of flower mesh.
Now we need to cut some strips from the mesh. The width is about 10 cm, but I recommend that you experiment, because different widths can be different for different kinds of flower net. It is also important to understand how large and wide you want such bows from the mesh, which means there will be different widths of the stripes from the mesh.
Mesh bows can be of the same tone and color, or different, just cut strips from mesh rollers of different colors.
Now you just need to wrap the mesh strip on both sides and make a tie in the middle. The ears for the bow are ready!
Next, do the same with the other strip. Typically, two stripes are enough for a pretty bow, but you can add one or two more stripes to make a fuller mesh bow.
Again we make a tie in the middle, adjust the ears as you like, so that everything looks beautiful! The mesh bow is ready!
And here is the video master class DIY bow from the grid!

How to Make a Football Net – Luxsol Blog
Football is played not only in professionally equipped stadiums – with stands, perfect lawn and a full set of equipment.Football is actively played in the courtyard, on school and university sports grounds and in indoor halls. Children play ball with pleasure even on the lawn. However, for a comfortable game, you cannot do without good goals, where, in addition to the bars and crossbars, the net is of decisive importance. It is she who provides comfort, and in some cases also safety, especially if the game takes place in the courtyard or near buildings with extensive glazing.
How to weave a football net yourself?
- Handicraft method. The simplest, cheapest, but far from the most convenient option is to make a net directly on the gate frame. For this, a regular clothesline or other material that is resistant to moisture and ultraviolet light is suitable. Every 15 centimeters on the frame of the gate are made with a drill a hole with a diameter of 12 millimeters.
Next, parallel horizontal and vertical ropes are pulled. The intersection points are fixed by knots or in another way. Thus, at minimal cost, we obtain a network with cells of 15×15 centimeters weighing up to 10 kilograms. At the same time, it remains difficult to dismantle the entire network. All work can be completed in a few hours.
- Hand weaving. If you are familiar with the shuttle and have basic weaving skills, a one-gate net can be weaved in a few evenings. To do this, you can use a thick nylon or nylon thread. Before starting work, try to weigh all the labor costs and prepare for what tools may be required.
If you do not have the necessary skills, and you are looking on YouTube for how to make a net for a football goal, the time spent can be easily doubled or even tripled. In this case, it is worth considering the disadvantages of the nodal weaving method: increased injury risk, high labor costs, large mesh weight.
Turnkey solutions from Luxsol
There is an easier solution – to buy a football net of the required size and required strength characteristics in the Luxsol online store. We offer a wide range of models for classic, junior and mini-football at an attractive price.
