What are the key techniques for cradling a lacrosse ball. How can players improve their cradling skills to maintain ball control. Why is proper cradling crucial for success in lacrosse.
Understanding the Fundamentals of Lacrosse Cradling
Cradling is a cornerstone skill in lacrosse, pivotal for maintaining possession and maneuvering effectively on the field. But what exactly is cradling? It’s the rhythmic motion of the shoulder, bicep, forearm, and wrist that keeps the ball securely nestled in the lacrosse stick’s pocket through centrifugal force. This technique allows players to move freely without losing control of the ball, making it an indispensable part of a player’s repertoire.
The importance of mastering cradling cannot be overstated. It’s the foundation upon which all other lacrosse skills are built. Without proper cradling, players struggle to maintain possession, execute passes, or set up shots effectively. Let’s delve into the various cradling techniques that can elevate your game.
The Two-Handed Lacrosse Cradle: A Beginner’s Gateway
For those new to lacrosse, the two-handed cradle serves as an excellent starting point. This technique teaches the fundamental mechanics of cradling and provides a solid base for more advanced skills.
Perfecting Hand Position for Two-Handed Cradling
How should you position your hands for an effective two-handed cradle? The bottom hand grips the butt end of the stick with a “motorcycle-like” grip. Your thumb should wrap around the shaft, touching your fingers. This grip provides control without impeding the stick’s rotation. The top hand, positioned just below the stick’s throat, is the primary controller of the cradling motion.
The Art of Two-Handed Cradling Motion
Many beginners mistakenly believe that cradling involves quick, jerky movements. In reality, it’s a smooth, fluid motion that engages the wrists, forearms, and biceps. Imagine performing a bicep curl – the arm movement in cradling is quite similar. The top arm should be bent at a 90-degree angle, with the forearm perpendicular to the ground. As you cradle, the bicep brings the stick head closer to your chest, while a slight wrist bend at the top of the movement helps maintain ball control.
A well-executed cradle keeps the ball suspended in the pocket’s sweet spot, never allowing it to touch the lacrosse head’s rails. This control is crucial for maintaining possession and preparing for your next move on the field.
Advancing to the One-Handed Lacrosse Cradle
Once players have mastered the two-handed cradle, they can progress to the more advanced one-handed technique. This style offers increased mobility and better stick protection, allowing players to incorporate cradling into their natural running motion.
Mastering One-Handed Cradling Technique
In one-handed cradling, the hand position is crucial. The top hand grips the stick just below the throat, with the shaft resting along the palm. The fingers and thumb wrap around the shaft securely. But what drives the cradling motion in this technique? Unlike the two-handed cradle, the one-handed version primarily relies on shoulder movement, with the wrist playing a complementary role.
To execute this technique effectively, lock your elbow at a 90-degree angle with your forearm perpendicular to the ground. Contract your bicep and forearm muscles. The motion is similar to performing chest flys – if done correctly, you’ll feel engagement in your pectoral muscles.
Common Cradling Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
As with any skill, cradling comes with its share of common errors. Recognizing and correcting these mistakes can significantly improve your performance on the field.
- Overreliance on wrist movement: Many beginners focus too much on rapid wrist flicks, neglecting the crucial role of the shoulder and arm.
- Inconsistent rhythm: Effective cradling requires a steady, consistent rhythm. Erratic movements can lead to loss of ball control.
- Incorrect stick angle: Holding the stick at the wrong angle can cause the ball to fall out or make it difficult to transition to passing or shooting.
- Lack of protection: Especially in one-handed cradling, players often forget to use their free arm to protect the stick from defenders.
To avoid these pitfalls, focus on smooth, controlled movements, maintain a consistent rhythm, and always be aware of your stick’s position relative to your body and potential defenders.
Innovative Cradling Drills to Enhance Your Skills
Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to cradling. Here are some effective drills to improve your technique:
- The “Rock the Baby” drill: Using both hands, rotate the stick back and forth to keep the ball in the pocket. This helps develop a feel for the ball’s movement.
- Fast-walk cradling: Walk briskly for 20 meters while cradling. This helps you maintain control while in motion.
- One-handed figure-eight: Practice moving the stick in a figure-eight pattern using one hand. This improves wrist strength and control.
- Blind cradling: Close your eyes and cradle. This develops a tactile sense of the ball’s position.
- Obstacle course cradling: Set up a simple obstacle course and navigate it while cradling. This simulates game-like conditions.
Remember, consistency is key. Even a few minutes of practice each day can lead to significant improvements over time.
Incorporating Cradling into Game Situations
While mastering cradling techniques in isolation is important, the true test comes in applying these skills during a game. How can you effectively integrate cradling into your overall play?
First, practice transitioning between different cradling styles. You might start with a two-handed cradle when receiving a pass, then switch to a one-handed cradle as you begin to run. Being able to seamlessly shift between styles allows you to adapt to different game situations.
Next, work on combining cradling with other skills. Practice cradling into a quick pass or shot. This helps you maintain possession while setting up offensive plays. Additionally, incorporate cradling into your dodging techniques. A well-executed cradle can help you protect the ball while maneuvering past defenders.
Finally, focus on situational awareness. While cradling, keep your head up and be aware of your teammates’ positions and potential defensive threats. This allows you to make quick decisions about when to pass, shoot, or continue cradling.
Advanced Cradling Techniques for Experienced Players
As players become more proficient, they can explore advanced cradling techniques that offer even greater control and versatility on the field.
The Behind-the-Back Cradle
This advanced technique involves cradling the stick behind your back. It’s particularly useful when running away from a defender, as it puts your body between the ball and the opponent. To execute this move:
- Start with a normal one-handed cradle
- As you run, bring the stick behind your back
- Continue the cradling motion, using your shoulder and upper arm to generate the movement
- Keep your free arm out for balance and to ward off defenders
This technique requires significant practice to master but can be a valuable tool in your lacrosse arsenal.
The Switch Cradle
The switch cradle involves smoothly transferring the stick from one hand to the other while maintaining the cradling motion. This technique is useful for changing direction quickly or setting up a shot with your non-dominant hand. To perform a switch cradle:
- Begin with a one-handed cradle
- As you bring the stick across your body, release your grip slightly
- Catch the stick with your other hand, positioning it for a one-handed cradle
- Continue the cradling motion with your new hand
Mastering the switch cradle can make you a more unpredictable and effective player on the field.
The Role of Equipment in Effective Cradling
While technique is paramount, the right equipment can also contribute to effective cradling. How does your choice of stick and pocket affect your cradling ability?
The pocket depth of your lacrosse head plays a crucial role in cradling. A deeper pocket generally makes it easier to retain the ball while cradling, but it may sacrifice some accuracy in passing and shooting. Conversely, a shallower pocket offers better ball control for passing and shooting but requires more skill to cradle effectively.
The shaft’s material and weight also impact cradling. Lighter shafts allow for quicker movements, which can be beneficial for rapid cradling. However, some players prefer the feel of a heavier shaft for more controlled cradling motions.
Ultimately, the best equipment choice depends on your playing style, position, and personal preference. Experiment with different setups to find what works best for you.
Cradling Strategies for Different Positions
Different positions on the lacrosse field may require slightly different approaches to cradling. How should attackmen, midfielders, and defenders adapt their cradling techniques?
Attackmen
As the primary scorers, attackmen need to excel at close-quarters cradling. They should focus on quick, tight cradling motions that allow for rapid direction changes and shot preparation. Mastering one-handed cradling is particularly important for attackmen, as it allows them to use their free hand to fend off defenders.
Midfielders
Midfielders cover the most ground and need to be versatile in their cradling. They should be proficient in both one-handed and two-handed cradling, able to switch between styles as they transition from defense to offense. Midfielders should also practice cradling at full running speed, as they often carry the ball across the field.
Defenders
While defenders spend less time with the ball, effective cradling is still crucial when clearing the ball or initiating a counterattack. Defenders should focus on strong, secure two-handed cradling to protect the ball from attacking players. They should also practice one-handed cradling for situations where they need to run with the ball while keeping their long defensive stick between them and potential attackers.
By tailoring your cradling technique to your position, you can maximize your effectiveness on the field and contribute more effectively to your team’s success.
Mental Aspects of Cradling: Building Confidence and Muscle Memory
While the physical aspects of cradling are crucial, the mental side of this skill is equally important. How can players develop the confidence and muscle memory necessary for effective cradling?
Confidence in cradling comes from repeated practice and successful execution. Start by practicing in a low-pressure environment, gradually increasing the difficulty as you become more comfortable. Visualize successful cradling during game situations to build mental preparedness.
Developing muscle memory is key to making cradling feel natural and effortless. Consistent, repetitive practice is essential. Even when you’re not on the field, you can practice the arm and wrist movements of cradling. This “air cradling” can help reinforce the muscle memory needed for effective in-game performance.
Remember, every player develops at their own pace. Don’t get discouraged if progress seems slow – with persistence and focused practice, your cradling skills will improve over time.
Adapting Cradling Techniques to Different Weather Conditions
Lacrosse is played in various weather conditions, each of which can affect your cradling technique. How should players adjust their cradling to account for rain, wind, or extreme temperatures?
Cradling in Wet Conditions
Rain or high humidity can make the ball and stick slippery, increasing the risk of turnovers. In wet conditions:
- Focus on tighter, more controlled cradling motions
- Keep the stick more vertical to prevent water from pooling in the pocket
- Consider using stick wax or a tacky grip to improve control
Dealing with Wind
Strong winds can affect the ball’s movement within the pocket. To counteract this:
- Use more power in your cradling motion to keep the ball secure
- Be prepared to adjust your cradling angle to compensate for wind direction
- Practice cradling in various wind conditions to improve adaptability
Cradling in Extreme Temperatures
Very hot or cold conditions can affect your grip and the stick’s performance. In extreme heat, your hands may sweat more, requiring a firmer grip. In cold conditions, your hands may be less flexible, necessitating more deliberate cradling motions. Always warm up thoroughly in cold weather to ensure your muscles are ready for effective cradling.
By adapting your cradling technique to different weather conditions, you can maintain consistent performance regardless of the environment.
The Evolution of Cradling Techniques in Lacrosse
Cradling, like many aspects of lacrosse, has evolved over time. How has this fundamental skill changed, and what can we learn from its history?
Originally, Native American players used wooden sticks with shallow pockets, which required different cradling techniques compared to modern sticks. As stick technology advanced, allowing for deeper pockets and more precise string work, cradling techniques adapted to take advantage of these improvements.
In the early days of modern lacrosse, two-handed cradling was the norm. As the game became faster and more dynamic, one-handed cradling gained popularity, allowing for greater speed and maneuverability. Today, elite players seamlessly blend various cradling styles to adapt to different game situations.
Understanding this evolution can provide insights into the underlying principles of effective cradling and help players appreciate the skill’s importance in the game’s development.
Cradling in Women’s Lacrosse: Similarities and Differences
While the basic principles of cradling remain the same, there are some notable differences between men’s and women’s lacrosse cradling techniques. What are these differences, and how do they affect gameplay?
In women’s lacrosse, the stick pocket is shallower due to rule regulations. This necessitates more frequent and precise cradling motions to keep the ball secure. Women’s players often employ a more vertical cradling style compared to men’s players, which helps compensate for the shallower pocket.
Additionally, the no-contact nature of women’s lacrosse means that players can focus more on fluid, open-field cradling without as much concern for physical defense. This often results in a more graceful, rhythmic cradling style in the women’s game.
Despite these differences, the fundamental goal of cradling – maintaining possession while moving – remains the same in both versions of the sport. Players of both genders can benefit from studying and practicing various cradling techniques to improve their overall game.
Introduction to Cradling
The Lacrosse Cradle refers to the motion of the shoulder, bicep, forearm and wrist moving the lacrosse head in such a way that the centrifugal force maintains the ball position in the stick. It is a very important aspect of lacrosse because it controls the lacrosse stick and allows the player maneuverability without losing control over the ball
Two Handed Lacrosse Cradle
The two handed lacrosse cradle is a basic cradle that all beginner lacrosse players can use to initiate their dodge. It’s a great lesson in cradling mechanics that beginners can begin to learn right away.
Hand Position
The bottom hand grips the butt end of the stick with a motorcycle like grip. The thumb should be wrapped around the shaft touching the fingers. The bottom hand helps control the stick, however, it does not impede the rotation of the shaft. Test this by gripping the bottom of the shaft and spinning the stick with the top hand. The bottom hand grip should allow the spinning motion of the stick.
For the top hand grip, the shaft should be resting along the palm of the hand just below the area where the fingers join the hand. The grip should be just below the throat of the stick. The top hand controls the movement of cradle.
Motion of Lacrosse Cradling
The biggest misunderstanding of lacrosse cradling is that is consists of quick jerky movements. Many times, beginning players start by bouncing their arms and wrists up and down without ever playing attention to the movement of the ball. The cradle is an art form that utilizes the wrists, forearms and biceps to keep the ball in the pocket.
To begin, visualize working out and doing a bicep curl. Notice the contraction of muscle in the bicep and the movement of the wrist at the top of the completed rep. This movement is very similar to how the top hand arm moves when cradling.
The top hand arm should be bent 90 degrees at the elbow with the forearm perpendicular to the ground. The bicep muscle should bring the head of the stick closer to the chest as if it were a dumbbell. At the top of the movement, the wrist should bend slightly towards the chest to help keep control of the ball.
A good lacrosse cradle controls the ball in such a way that it never actual hits the rails of the lacrosse head. The cradle suspends the ball in the sweet spot of the pocket.
One Handed Lacrosse Cradle
The one handed lacrosse cradle is a little more advanced than a two handed lacrosse cradle but there is so much to gain for a player to begin practicing this type of cradle right away. This cradle allows a player to protect his stick and move much faster. Players incorporate this type of lacrosse cradle into their natural running motion and are able to use their other arm to protect their stick allowing them to move much faster without losing possession.
Hand Position
The top hand grips the stick just below the throat. The shaft should be resting along the palm of the hand just below the area where the fingers join the hand. The fingers wrap around the shaft and the thumb should wrap around the fingers.
Motion of Lacrosse Cradling
The one handed lacrosse cradle is mainly derived from the movement of the shoulder. The wrist complements the movement of the shoulder; the wrist is not the main power generator. Many times, beginning players jerk their wrists side to side with little synchronization to how their shoulder and body are moving thus causing the ball to fall out.
To help, lock the elbow at 90 degrees so the forearm is perpendicular to the ground. Contract the bicep muscle and the forearm muscles. The best way to describe the cradling motion would be to imagine doing chest flys. The arm that is cradling the ball will contract the pectoral if done correctly.
Keep practicing. This is skill that can be practiced virtually anywhere. Cradling is difficult for new players, but just realize that by practicing now, you are better a player tomorrow.

Cradle to the Grave » Powell Lacrosse Sticks
Every now and then I get hit with a powerful wave of energy that’s usually triggered by an event or encounter. This time the source of inspiration came from a small workshop I attended over the weekend with my brother Ryan courtesy of the Onondaga Historical Society.
Deyhontsigwa’ehs is a game that was given to the Onondaga people as a gift from the Creator. Roughly translated, Deyhontsigwa’ehs means “they bump hips”. It’s a gift from the Creator, is meant to be played for the Creator and is known to possess strong healing powers – thus also often referred to as a “medicine game”.
During the time of European contact with the indigenous people of North America they noticed that almost all of the Native tribes played some variation of “stick game” that involved curved sticks and a ball (sometimes two, known now as “doubleball”). The rules and equipment varied between the tribes however spirituality and ceremony were the foundation of each form. The modern game of “lacrosse” (named after the crosier carried by bishops) is most closely related to the Iroquois style of stick game.
Although most lacrosse players, fans, coaches and enthusiasts are aware of the historical significance of lacrosse, I am writing this to encourage all of you to learn more about it and pass it along so that the future generations of players understand that they aren’t just playing a sport that a gym teacher made up for fun. Lacrosse has a backbone and a tradition like NO other. Our young players NEED to know this. It will make them appreciate the sport, honor it and create a strong feeling of belonging to this very sacred circle.
It was about 12:00pm yesterday when my brother Ryan called me and said “Alfie is giving talk on wooden sticks at 2:00pm, lets go!” That’s all he needed to say. I jumped in my truck, picked Ryan up and we drove to the Onondaga Historical Society. Let me start by saying that Alfie Jacques, in my humble opinion, is the most important man in lacrosse. He embodies everything I love about the sport.
We rolled into the Historical Society on this -10 degree day to find small posters that read “Alfred Jacques of the Onondaga Nation and noted Lacrosse Stick Maker” scattered throughout the building. We followed the signs and eventually landed at our destination around 2:10pm, so a bit late. We slid quietly through the doors of a large sterile meeting room with all white walls and filled with about 50 people ranging in age from roughly 11 – 85. At the front of the room Alfie stood behind an 18 foot table covered in Native American print blankets and all sorts of sticks. As we tried to find a couple open seats he noticed us walk in and gave us a cool welcoming smile and nod.
For the next two hours Alfie spoke of lacrosse in the most elegant and knowledgable way I had ever heard. It was one of those moments where I wished that everyone that ever played lacrosse or is playing it now was there to hear the words that were coming out of his mouth. I sat there with my jaw on the floor learning and absorbing as much as I possibly could.
We didn’t know it at the time, but Ryan and I along with only 5 other people in the crowd of 50 were lacrosse players. We just figured the room would be filled with lacrosse players, but we were wrong. People were there to learn the history and the art behind the sport and the sticks. So needless to say Alfie was fielding some pretty basic question. But Alfie is just flat out cool. He looks cool, he acts cool and so his answers to the most basic and simple question were cool. He answered with knowledge, humor at times, and wisdom like only he can deliver.
One of the things he talked about was how deeply embedded Deyhontsigwa’ehs is in Onondaga culture. He talked about cradle to the grave. Every Onondaga boy, upon birth, is given a traditional stick and it is placed in their crib. And every Onondaga man that dies is buried with their lacrosse stick laying beside them. If that doesn’t make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and enhance your view of the importance of lacrosse I don’t what to tell you — maybe you should go play baseball.
In his talk he covered other stick game’s from other tribes, another Onondaga stick game called “snow snake” that Ryan and I are definitely going to try, and then broke into his process and his sticks. He talked about growing up around stick making and the craft behind it. He comes from a family of world renowned lacrosse stick makers. He talked about how he made his own sticks that he played with in high school. I think that is why I admire Alfie so much, he is a doer.
When is the last time that you have ever heard of someone making their own basketball, or tennis racket, or golf clubs? It just doesn’t happen. That’s just another reason why lacrosse is unique and special. Although players aren’t injecting plastic into homemade molds or extruding alloys, they are still stringing — the art is still in the stick. This is why we are committed as a brand to hand stringing every single one of our pockets. As we continue to innovate and push the boundaries it’s more important to us that we preserve the special elements that make lacrosse what it is. I think that all manufacturers should feel a strong sense of responsibility to educate the next generation and carry on certain significant practices, like stringing, to make sure the game never loses sight of its origin and remains the most sacred sport on planet earth.
At the conclusion of his workshop, Alfie invited anyone to step up to his hand made shaving horse and give the draw shave a try. As soon as he said, “would anyone like to give it a try?”, Ryan took his coat off and went right up to the front. I knew what he was thinking, here we are a lacrosse stick manufacturer, we need to learn, honor, and understand the history of the process before we can move forward with it. We owe it to our customers, we owe it to lacrosse.
A couple of years ago, I bent a few lacrosse sticks out of a shag bark hickory log my Dad got for me. I gobbled up as much information I could on the process, talked with Alfie, and watched all of his videos about 200 times. My sticks turned out okay, they didn’t look nearly as nice as a “Jacques” but I didn’t expect them to. All I was doing was conducting an exercise that would help me appreciate the process even more.
In closing, I would like to personally thank Alfie for such an amazing demonstration and being such a great leader in lacrosse. If anyone belongs in the lacrosse hall of fame it’s Alfred Jacques. I would like to thank my Brother for giving me a heads up on this event. And I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to read this. I encourage a deep dive into the world of Alfie Jacques to learn more about this sport and the stick. He is truly a treasure and we are so lucky to be a part of this community.
I approached him after the demo to shake his hand and tell him that I have been bending sticks myself. I told him that I tried to do the back bend and the first bend at the same time. I asked him if that was wrong. What he responded with is something that I will never forget as long as I live. He said, “when I was a kid making my first stick I was shaving the inside scoop and I asked my grandfather if I was doing it the right way” and his grandfather smiled and replied, “I don’t know, you’re not done yet.”
How to Get Better With Your Left Hand in Lacrosse
In lacrosse, your dominant hand, typically the right, goes to the upper half of the stick, with the other hand holding the butt of the stick near your waist. You want to get your nondominant hand, be it left or right, as close as possible to your dominant hand in terms of skill and comfort with cradling, passing, shooting and catching the ball. In lacrosse, the ambidextrous advantage helps you produce a “quick stick” shot with element of surprise and to dodge through defenders to the goal.
Perform everyday tasks with your left hand — brush your teeth, opening doors, writing and eating — to increase your comfort. Carry your lacrosse stick to practice in your nondominant hand.
Stand up to 8 yards from a wall and pass to yourself for hundreds of repetitions with your weaker hand. Just throw the ball against the wall and catch the rebound. Aim for what would be your teammates’ chest and head, recommends coach Becky Swissler in “Winning Lacrosse for Girls.” Continue for a total of 30 minutes with varying passes, trying to work mostly with your nondominant hand.
Set up 10 cones each 5 yards apart in a line. Run through the cones switching hands at each cone. For the purposes of this exercise, cradle the ball as you start out by resting the fingertips of your weaker hand uppermost on the stick. Bring your stick toward your right shoulder. Swap hands, maintaining your grip angle on the stick. Focus on working on your left hand equally with your right. Work on switching smoothly so that you don’t lose the ball out of the pocket.
Force yourself during drills to cradle, shoot, pass and pick up ground balls with your left or nondominant hand to increase your power and precision. Cradle for five minutes with your weaker hand before you cradle for five minutes with your strong hand.
Play a multi-goal game for two teams of six players each, suggested by the American Sport Education Program in “Coaching Youth Lacrosse.” Create four gates, each 5 yards across, within a playing area 30 yards square. You can score going in either direction through the gate. Count one point for each time a teammate passes the ball through a gate and allow the team to keep the ball. Count two points if a pair of teammates pass and receive the ball through the gate, each using the nondominant hand.
Ask the coach if the entire team can switch to its nondominant hand for two minutes during scrimmages.
Cradlebaby lacrosse training ball review
Cradlebaby lacrosse training ball
- 2 broken windows : $400
- 2 curtain rails : $120
- 1 hole in the plaster : $100
- Total: $620.00
That’s list of things I broke at my parents’ house from errant lacrosse balls while playing inside.
When the Cradlebaby team said they were sending one through for review, the first person I told was my mother. She just laughed, “Where were they when you were in juniors?” she quipped, no doubt reliving the hip pocket pain from my trail of destruction.
What is a Cradlebaby?
Cradlebaby training lacrosse ball is an amazing breakthrough invention aimed at providing you with more opportunity to practise the more subtle and essential moves of lacrosse.
It is an actual lacrosse ball with a permanent tether attached to it. This tether is attached to the top of your stick which keeps the ball from flying off.
Cradlebaby lacrosse training ball attached to your stick
The ball
The Cradlebaby is an actual regulation lacrosse ball. You could remove the tether and use it like a regular ball. Why you would do that, I have no idea, but you could.
It has a small hole through the middle where the tether attaches to. There’s no noticeable weight difference from the hole made for the tether. For all intents and purposes, it feels like you’re holding a real ball.
The ball also has that nice grippy surface that you get with new balls. Lacrosse balls become shiny over time from contact with the playing surface. The shiny balls also slip in your pocket and are released differently when you pass or shoot which is a real issue when you’re working on the nuances of your game.
Additionally, as a result of their concussion research, US Lacrosse are also banning lacrosse balls over 1 year old. This sort of coincides with around the time when the balls start to get shiny. With the tether, the Cradlebaby has hardly any chance to get shiny which gives you years of use.
The tether
The tether is made from a super strong fabric, much like what you find on lanyards. It is a little thinner than a normal lanyard making it really easy to thread through the top of your stick.
It’s over a foot long, which allows the ball to naturally and freely move, but also short enough that it doesn’t get caught on anything nor get in the way. The length of the goalie variety is a couple of inches longer to accommodate for the larger head.
The feel
Throughout all my testing, I wasn’t able to feel the tether at all. I thought at some point it might get a bit caught or something, but it never did. The ball just rolled over the attachment point and that was it.
Training drills
The Cradlebaby has many uses. Let’s take a look at some of the main ones.
Cradling
Firstly you can use it to practice the basics of cradling and passing.
Start off by standing in front of a mirror. Watch yourself pass and cradle with your strong hand, then swap over to your other hand and see if your action is the same.
Most of us, especially when starting out, have very poor technique on our weaker hand and never really address it until we get to high school or even seniors. Seeing and watching yourself moving with the right mechanics of good technique is a huge confidence booster and stops those bad habits.
Fakes
Practicing your fakes is where the Cradlebaby really excelled. Sure, there was the joy of not having to run after the ball, but the real benefit is not having to stop your training drill.
What I used to do was have a bunch of balls on the ground, away a bit so I didn’t step on them, and practice my fakes. When I dropped the ball, I’d have to stop, walk over to the balls, pick another one up, and reset myself to continue.
With my Cradlebaby, not having to stop the drill to pick up another ball was a HUGE benefit. I stayed in the drill and was able to try the fake again and again without stopping until I got it right.
Fakes are a fine art which require hours of practice. The further you can take your fake, the more effective it will be. That means you have to find the point where you lose the ball and it’s nice to know you can do that without chasing balls all day.
Changing hands
One handed cradling and the art of changing hands can also be practiced with your Cradlebaby. You can do both of these at home in front of the mirror. I found I didn’t drop the ball as often as other drills, but it did allow me to practice these drills at greater speed.
One on one
You can also use your Cradlebaby outside if you’re doing a bit of one-on-one. Having the option to just flick the ball back in your stick keeps you in the drill allowing you to restart pretty much straight away.
Shooting
You can also practice shooting but I found this wasn’t as good as up against a wall or on the cage. If you shot hard, the ball would yank the stick and throw you off balance a bit. The whole shooting experience wasn’t really game-like so I’d suggest the wall.
Overall
The Cradlebaby is an essential item for any lacrosse player wanting to improve. It is an excellent training device which increases the places where you can practice and isn’t dependant on the weather.
It should be the second item that junior players purchase, right after their first stick. If you’re a parent wanting to limit the damage in and around your home, this is a wonderful investment! One breakage alone will cover the cost and then some.
In terms of warranty, the Cradlebaby team are there for you. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase just let them know. You can reach them anytime at [email protected]. The team at Cradlebaby want you to have with it. If there is anything wrong with your Cradlebaby they’ll replace it.

90,000 NSA is recruiting little Americans – RT in Russian
The US National Security Agency has released a coloring book for children, which tells about the intricacies of espionage skills. The main characters of the book – talking animals – spy on people. In this way, the NSA is trying to win the sympathy of little Americans. In an interview with RT, cartoonist Ted Roll questioned the benefits of this project.
The leading US spy agency, the NSA, is trying to win the sympathy of little Americans. The agency has released a coloring book for children. Obviously, to educate the younger generation and educate about the merits of espionage.
The main characters of the book are talking animals who play the guitar, lacrosse and spy on people.
Political cartoonist Ted Roll questions the usefulness of this project.
“The perception of the NSA as a friendly organization in many Americans causes a negative attitude towards the agency that reads our e-mail and listens to our phone calls,” says the artist.
According to Ted, there is a website for interested children where children can get acquainted with a number of characters. In addition, young US citizens have the opportunity to learn how to encrypt messages and mentally prepare to work for the NSA when they grow up.
“These methods are not new at all. In the Disney animated series for children “Special Agent Oso” there is a robotic camera in the form of a ladybug. The cartoon is designed to help children learn more about life in the style of James Bond, “- said the cartoonist.
“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Of course, the government of any country wants to enlist the support of children, as well as to be able to recruit some of them for further work in the intelligence services or in the military, says Ted Roll. – One way to achieve this is to plant certain ideas in the minds of children and wait for them to take root. However, I don’t think this particular attempt will work. Their characters will instantly start to be perceived as something funny, funny, vulgar and strange. “

Indians – from childhood we read books about these brave, noble and somewhat mysterious people, played Indians, watched films about them. Well, what are they really? How did they live and live today?
June 21 is the day of the summer solstice, the middle of natural summer and the longest day of the year when the sun reaches its highest position. At the moment of the solstice, the points of sunrise and sunset stop moving. Despite the fact that summer is just starting to gain momentum from this moment, the sun returns to autumn. From this time on, daylight hours will decrease, and by the autumn equinox, the dark time of the day will prevail over the day.
For thousands of years, this day was of great importance for our ancient ancestors, who lived in harmony with Mother Earth and obeyed natural cycles. Today, like thousands of years ago, the summer solstice is one of the most important holidays of the Indians.By the way, this day was also celebrated by our European ancestors. On this day, there are such ancient pagan holidays as Ivanov’s Day, Kupala, Lita.
On the day of the summer solstice, solar energy increases and the potential for magic, ritual and meditation increases dramatically. This is one of the most powerful days of the year, when it is possible to “dream up” your happiness, “program” yourself for positive and joyfulness.
June 21, 2017 Irina International Tours invites everyone to the mission of St. Mary on Lake Huron to celebrate this holiday with the Indians and learn more about their way of life, traditions, culture and customs.
We will visit the very heart of the Country of Huronia. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Hurons formed a union of five tribes and numbered 20-30 thousand people; they occupied the area between Lakes Huron and Ontario, concentrating between the Gulf of Georgia and Lake Simcoe. The Hurons were engaged in agriculture, hunting and fishing, and actively participated in inter-tribal trade. The traditional religion of the Hurons is animism, belief in spirits (sun, moon, sky), shamanism.
In 1639, the Jesuits, who were the first Europeans to come to these places, stated that the tribe had 32 villages, large and small, 700 longhouses made of bark (literally – long houses – this was the name of the communal houses in which the Hurons lived), 4 thous.families, 12 thousand adults and possibly a total number of about 20 thousand people.
During our excursion, you will learn not only about the history of this tribe and other tribes that inhabited Canada, but also see how the Hurons lived at the beginning of the 17th century, who converted to Christianity or remained pagans. We will visit the cells and the refectory of the Jesuits who founded this Mission, we will visit a small but very interesting museum that tells about the Indians, the indigenous inhabitants of these places, and the history of the development of Canada by Europeans.
On this important day for them, the Indians living in Canada traditionally celebrate not only the summer solstice, but also the National Day of the Indians. On this day, representatives of various tribes come here not only from North, but from South America, and show their unique dances, play drums and other traditional musical instruments. In front of the eyes of visitors, Indian artists make souvenirs and amulets. You can try traditional Indian food, take part in weaving bracelets and making canoes, and try to make fire as the Indians used to get it centuries ago.
Mission guides, by the way, most of them are representatives of various Indian tribes, will also talk about the game of lacrosse. This is a game in which two teams try to hit the opponent’s goal with a rubber ball, using their feet and a projectile, which is a cross between a stick and a racket. The first mentions of lacrosse date back to the fourteenth century, and more than six hundred years ago the game was popular among the indigenous people of Canada. Lacrosse is rooted in even football, not to mention hockey and basketball, invented only two centuries ago.In 1994, lacrosse was declared a “national summer sport” in Canada and everyone can play it.
Even during lunch, we can continue the “Indian theme”, because on this day the Mission restaurant offers a special menu, which includes many dishes prepared according to Indian recipes, including the famous Three Sisters soup.
Visiting the Mission and celebrating the Midsummer Day takes place in the first half of the day, and it is difficult to imagine a more enjoyable midday vacation than the 30,000 Islands Cruise on Lake Huron, during which you can see the harsh and unique beauty of the Gulf of Georgia.
After the cruise, we continue our acquaintance with the history of the Country of Huronia and visit the Church of the Great Martyrs, the only Catholic shrine in the province of Ontario.
This trip, designed for the whole day, is equally interesting for adults and children, and residents and guests of the country, and we will be happy to celebrate the Summer Solstice Day with you.

sports education in private boarding schools in the UK as part of traditional elite education
Close attention to the education system, the search for new approaches to educating the leaders of the future of Russia in 2018 is no longer surprising to anyone. An empirical study of the issue of sports education in private boarding schools in Great Britain as part of the traditional elite educational process is presented.
Keywords: education, types of education, organization of life, sports education.
According to the apt expression of K.D. Ushinsky, the character of the people always determines the character of school education [2].And if the ideal is achievable for an English gentleman-
scrap is the habit of self-control (stiff upper lip – “hard upper lip”) – the educational work of the oldest British elite educational institutions – private boarding schools – is aimed at the formation of character.
World famous British private boarding schools are more educational than educational institutions. It is about sports education as a form of educational work in private boarding schools in Great Britain that will be discussed in this article.
An overview of the system of sports education (physical education / training), designed to meet the goals of the formation of personal maturity of students, the development of collective relations, is the goal of our research. Sports (or physical) education is an academic subject that combines the teaching of cognitive, emotional and psychomotor skills in play or in specially organized motor conditions. The main goals of sports education in the UK have often changed in response to the demands of the times. In the XXI century. The goal of most modern British schools (according to the National Curriculum) is for students to assimilate, along with knowledge, skills and abilities, the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle now and in future adulthood. Some British schools also mention weight loss among their students among the main goals of education (unfortunately, being overweight is one of the most common problems among British adolescents) [6].
The components of the sports education program are selected in such a way as to promote among students ideas about excellent physical shape, develop physical activity, in an accessible form and clearly explain the rules, concepts and strategies of team sports, teach students to work in a team or individually through a large selection of various kinds of sports. Here are some examples of the implementation of sports education in UK boarding schools [3].
Brighton College (founded 1845), located in Brighton, East Sussex. In 1973, the college began to admit girls, and in 1988 it turned into a private boarding school with a joint-

training. The college currently has about 580 students. 98% of students continue their studies at universities, 12% go to Oxbridge.
Brighton College offers the following range of activities: rugby, hockey, cricket, football, netball are compulsory subjects. Optionally, you can practice the following sports: badminton, squash, golf, swimming, water polo, jogging, fencing, tennis, athletics, basketball, table tennis, judo, shooting, dancing.
Dulwich College is a prestigious private boarding school for boys.Dulwich College was founded in 1619 by Edward Alleyn (a popular actor from the time of Queen Elizabeth) to educate only twelve poor boys, and it was then called “God’s Gift.” Today Dulwich College has 1,450 children making it the largest private boarding school in the UK.
in college sports is given a lot of attention. The school has its own boathouse on the Thames, which is the base of the school boat station. In addition, students are involved in rugby, athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, fencing, fitness, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, martial arts, netball, rowing, sailing, swimming, shooting, volleyball, squash, tennis and other sports.
Lansing College, formerly known as the College of Saints Mary and Nicholas, is a private coeducational boarding school founded in 1848. The College is part of the largest association of 40 English private schools under the auspices of the Church of England (Woodard Corporation).
Lansing is the oldest of twelve schools that Woodard has founded in the UK with the aim of ensuring the harmonious mental, physical and spiritual development of children. For the first time Lansing accepted girls for training in 1970, since 2002 the school has become completely mixed. Lansing school has 470 children, of which about 300 live in a hostel (200 boys and 100 girls).
At this college, like many private boarding schools in the UK, students have the opportunity to choose between the many sports on offer, such as football, rugby, tennis, squash, badminton, lacrosse, basketball, fives, ice hockey,

running, horse riding, target shooting, sailing.Students achieve the greatest success in football, squash, tennis, cricket and sailing. The college hosts an annual sports competition for the Duke of Edinburgh Prize.
Malvern College is a private, coeducational boarding school founded in 1861. The College is located near Malvern, County Hereford and Worcester. Malvern College is located at the foot of the Malvern Hills of the same name in Worcestershire in the Severn Valley, an area that is part of the UNESCO-protected Cotswolds Region of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The college has approximately 570 students. Originally a boys’ school, it eventually became a mixed school.
Malvern has a well-deserved reputation for encouraging student sports. The school is proud of the national and county champions and helps students with the ability and aptitude for certain sports to develop in the right direction. The college provides a choice of over thirty sports. According to the requirements of the administration, students must show an interest in their health and physical fitness and engage in at least one sport.
The school has excellent sports facilities: an indoor heated pool, a magnificent cricket court, all-weather sports fields, courts and fields for team and team sports. The iconic Malvern Hills are the perfect terrain for cross-country training. In addition to traditional sports, students have the opportunity to try their hand at sailing, canoeing, swimming, scuba diving, basketball, golf, lacrosse, sport shooting and horse riding.
Under the UK education program, private boarding and public high school students are required to attend physical education classes twice a week during the seventh, eighth and ninth years of school, and at least once a week during the tenth and eleventh years of school. As a rule, such classes in public schools are not very different from physical education classes in general education public schools in Russia.Nevertheless, there is a certain amount of difference here as well.
Izvestia vgpu
Specifically, according to The Independent, Ninten-do Vi prefixes have begun to be used in schools to encourage students missing physical education to be physically active. Four Worcestershire high schools have adopted a plan whereby children will use game consoles to simulate real sports activities (such as tennis). The developers of the program (experts from the Japanese corporation Nintendo) stated that, according to their observations, the use of games improved the students’ behavior and their teamwork skills [7].
The Droitwich and Worcestershire company plan to promote sports in urban schools has already won a government award and has received support from the Ministry of Health. Each school participating in the project identifies students between the ages of 14 and 16 who often miss physical education classes. For each school, we bought a V set-top box and a heart rate monitor to keep track of the workload.
This plan arose from the need to think alternatively, non-traditional and innovative, taking into account the existing interests of children. The use of computer games to increase physical activity and increase the corresponding skill seems controversial, but strict adjustments and the use of special computer games, according to the project developers, will imperceptibly force students to be active and interested in physical education in reality.
However, educational campaigners insist that game consoles should not replace regular activities. Time will tell how effective this innovation will be.
Above we have given excerpts from the official Internet sites of some private boarding schools on the functioning of sports education in these schools. It is necessary to summarize some of the most general tendencies and features of this type of education.
Sports in private boarding schools in Great Britain, along with general education subjects, are one of the main points of the school educational program. All schools have swimming pools, tennis, basketball, football and rugby fields, and many have golf courses. about schools in which there are less than ten sports, the British recall –
is disapproving or at least condescending [6].
First of all, the uniqueness of sports education in private boarding schools in Great Britain lies in adherence to the centuries-old traditions of each individual school and British society as a whole. the decisive factor when a student chooses a particular sport is often not only and not so much his own preferences and inclinations, but tradition, be it the tradition of his own family or the circle to which the student belongs. If several generations of a family who graduated from this boarding school played polo, if males from the upper strata of society traditionally play polo, if Princes William and Harry play polo, it is only natural that students of such private schools will play polo. – boarding houses like Eaton College and the charterhouse. We emphasize once again that we are not talking about any coercion: this system of values and priorities is absorbed by students from the first days of their stay in a private boarding school, which once again brings us to the concept of the spirit of the school. …
Tradition is the cornerstone on which sports education in Great Britain rests. Each private boarding school has a specific tradition associated with different sports. This is both a sports form, unchanged over the centuries, and a certain set of rituals, the observance of which is sacred for every athlete (recall that, although this attribute is also present in professional sports, the main difference lies in the fact that each boarding house, each faculty a certain history is associated with sports uniforms, with rituals before the start of the competition or after them, which is characteristic only for this school, for this faculty, which allows the participants of the competition, team players or their fans to feel their belonging to this group, their integrity, which in itself is one of the main educational goals of British sports school education – uniting a team of students, a team – team building).
Major boarding schools often have the opportunity to employ professional coaches alongside physical education teachers, which contributes to the growth of prestige.
Ms. various sports, and also improves the professional level of training.
However, most schools do not name the training of professional athletes as a priority in the field of sports education. The main thing is to maintain students’ interest in at least one of the sports to choose from, encourage physical activity and instill a habit of a healthy lifestyle, develop individuality, self-sufficiency and personal significance of each student [4].
When we describe the sporting possibilities of private boarding schools, we are by no means suggesting mindlessly copying the “number of pools” or sports sections. We would like to emphasize once again the fact that a more detailed study of the practice of sports education, which more than successfully exists in UK boarding schools, will not be superfluous for a modern Russian school.
Thus, completing the review of the system of sports education in private boarding schools in Great Britain, the following conclusions can be drawn: private schools of the state, without aiming to educate professional athletes, provide an opportunity for the comprehensive, harmonious development of students’ personality through a wide range of opportunities for sports under close scrutiny and the guidance of teachers and professional sportsmen-consultants, whose main goal is not only the development of students’ motor activity, but also providing an opportunity for a conscious choice of a sport as part of the traditional elite education.

How to discover Finland from an unexpected side? You need to take a map and draw a symbolic circle, and let it pass through the different Finnish provinces, each of which has its own face and character. The correspondent of “Fontanka.fi” drove four thousand kilometers by car through remote and unpopular places among Russian travelers.
Pastor taught salt cabbage
petajavesi.fi
We pass Kuhmoinen, it is difficult to call it a city, but it is the center of the neighboring farmsteads, to which locals once flocked to church services on multi-meter boats.Usually up to seven pairs were placed in the boat, and since the peasants built them at their own expense, it was necessary to row those who donated little. These long, long church boats can still be found on the shores of lakes and rivers. Pastors taught their parishioners not only catechism, but told how, for example, to salt cabbage and exist in harmony with nature.
In Kuhmoinen, we drink coffee in a coffee shop located right on the shore, in the building of the old coastal factory – the Sahanranta sawmill.Old equipment flaunts under the ceiling, the chains with which the logs were lifted.
And further on the way – into the wilderness, to the village of Petajavesi! It is in this place that the old Finnish wooden church, included in the UNESCO list, is located. The construction of this miracle began already in 1763.
A small town is left to one side, the sluggishness of its inhabitants is legendary, proverbs and sayings are made up: “I was late for heaven, like grandfather with Yams.” Its inhabitants are still unhurried and do not intend to change their habits. The car in the parking lot in front of us has been slowly maneuvering for 10 minutes …

Jyväskylä, the capital of Central Finland, is a city of youth and the cradle of Finnish education.
The country’s first teachers’ seminary with training in Finnish was opened here in 1863. Now the local university continues the traditions of this educational institution, and students from different countries, including Russia, come here to receive education.
White as refined, the campus of the university is located on two banks of the river, which are connected by a cable-stayed bridge, which turns into a hundred steps leading to the main building. Climbing is not easy, but the path to knowledge has never been easy.
Jyväskylä is not only a city of students, it is the birthplace of the Finnish genius Alvar Aalto, who left his descendants a reminder that there is always a place for creativity in life. At the tourist office, you can take a map and walk around the buildings designed by the great architect.Among them, by the way, are university buildings.
You can just climb the city observation deck – Harju Hill – and look down at everything. At 20:00 local time, the melody of Fredrik Patsius “Homeland” is played here, and this manifestation of Finnish patriotism and love for their homeland cannot but touch.
Thai wives and inscriptions under the bridge
Tornio. The bridge under which the main stream of refugees passed Svetlana AksyonovaShare
Lapland begins unexpectedly – we see a lone signpost with a short inscription Lappi. The region is huge: its borders stretch along Russia, Sweden, Norway. The word poro (deer) appears in roadside coffee shop menus. A lunch of delicious homemade food is inexpensive, around 8 euros, tourists are even offered hamburgers with smoked reindeer at a price of 3-4 euros. As you get closer to large cities, this price automatically more than doubles.
It is striking that the role of the hostess of the establishments is more and more often played by the secret. In the last 5-7 years, Thai wives have replaced Russian and Finnish wives, as the owner of one of the coffee houses admitted: “Our Finnish feminists are very demanding of a man, do not take his opinion into account. And women from Thailand are affectionate, compliant, and take care of a man like a child. ”
Meanwhile we are approaching Tornio – a cute little Finnish town, which is divided in two by the noisy river Tornijoki. On one side – Suomi, on the other – Sweden. It’s very easy to get to a neighboring country. You need to go to a large shopping center, go through it, go out to the square where children are running on skateboards, and walk to Sweden on dry land under a small bridge – in this place, the seething Torniyoki carries its waters underground in a pipe.On the walls of the bridge are the inscriptions “Tolerance” and “Friendship”. They appeared here even before the largest flow of refugees went to Finland through this city. Countless tents from the Middle East have sprung up in the city, and the inscriptions under the bridge have taken on an alarming hue.
Svetlana AksyonovaShare
Tornijoki is considered one of the most fishy rivers in Finland. Tamed in the city, the river literally rears up after 20-30 kilometers from it. Here the rapids begin, through which up to 3 thousand salmon can pass a day.Raw, smoked, dried fish adorns the counters of local establishments and shops. You can enjoy delicious fish soup and freshly baked bread with poppy seeds for only 4 euros, buy a huge salmon or whitefish fish for 10-14 euros.
Another pride of the region is handmade silver jewelry. The cost of Lapland silver earrings starts from 15-20 euros. “Lapland silver does not tarnish over time,” says jeweler Jorma Smeds. “And the gold that is mined in these places is traditionally expensive in Finland, but you will not find such a rich color anywhere else in the world.”
If one day you happen to drive from Ivalo along the E-75 highway, look around. The people of Lapland call this road “golden” because precious metal is washed on both sides. Gold mining is not part of the sphere of state interests; it is most often carried out by gold miners in leather cowboy hats. Until now, this is done in the old-fashioned way: they throw gold-bearing sand with a shovel into a chute through which water flows.
Seventh Wonder of the World in Finland
Fishing lodges are under state protection. The tree from which they are made is hundreds of years old. Svetlana AksyonovaShare
Revontulentie in Finnish translates as the Northern Lights Road, which means there is a fairy tale ahead. The Napapire / Arctic Circle pointer slides by (by the way, one third of Finland’s territory is beyond the Arctic Circle). The terrain ceases to be flat, and you seem to find yourself in a different sound space. It becomes absolutely quiet, silence covers the hills, tundra, you and your thoughts.
People are changing. The Sami are open, sincere, kind, broad-faced and short. As the Finns themselves say, “they are different, they smile differently, they look into the eyes differently”. The men of this region are renowned for their strength and are not averse to boasting about it.
We stay in Muonio in the cottage of the Finnish Writers’ Union. The names of those who rested here can be read on the spines of books, which are traditionally left by the masters of the pen in the hut. From Muonio, it is easy to drive to the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, home to 300-year-old fishing huts called one of the Seven Wonders of Finland. Each has its own owner, but since they are all a cultural heritage site, the owners are even ordered to request permission from the Museum Directorate in order to make any changes to the buildings or just make cosmetic repairs. Each house is an excursion into history, the curtains on the windows are prudently opened, and if the owner is absent, which is easy to understand from the big old locks on the doors, then you can afford to look at the old way of life of the “sad stepsons of nature”. Everyday life is unpretentious: wooden planks, a table on which dry fluffy northern flowers adorn – they are affectionately called here “the wool of the meadow”.
If the owner of the house, you can listen to interesting stories, because it is only believed that the Finns are an introverted people. The owner of one of the huts convinces that “for a nation to be alone with nature is much more important than catching a lot of fish.” He quite seriously believes that the “fish office” is in charge of the sea king Ahti, with whom jokes are bad – he will take and hide all the fish, therefore “it is not customary to boast about the catch here. And make noise too. ”
To reach the village from Muonio, drive 12 kilometers along the Rovaniementie road towards Lake Särkijärvi, then 7 kilometers along the Pallastunturintie road, turn right, drive 1.5 kilometers along the Jerisjärventie road and then turn onto Keimiöniementie. The parking lot is located on the right side of the road. Follow the path to the huts.
Fans of extreme sports can be advised to swim in the cleanest and most fishy lake of the country, Yerisjärvi, where they catch whitefish and vendace (muikku). Its deep waters are full of tranquility, the water has a healing effect on skin diseases. “Water is the oldest cream,” was sung in one of the Kalevala runes. You cannot call it warm – at first the body experiences a shock, then you get used to it. This northern kiss is cold, but also scorching hot.
From the height of the Särkitunturi hill Svetlana AksyonovaShare
The hills in these places are very different from each other. Pallas looks like a huge bald head of a giant. The treasure of these places – the Särkitunturi hill – is covered with forest, and you can climb it with only half a day left. There are many families with children, a lot of grill parking, benches. And the most real miracles open at the very top. You just end up in the Lapland landscape, spreading to the four cardinal directions from a bird’s eye view, but it’s not even that, but the color. The entire summit is covered with delicate rose quartz and small lakes. Pink is everywhere here – in flowers, stones, reflections in water. Särkitunturi is called one of the finest national landscapes in Finland.
The evening ends with a sauna. Unfortunately, the stove is electric, and we cannot afford to throw kelo / kelo into the fire – this is how the tree of old dead pines is called here. These dry, silvery giants can be easily spotted while walking on the tundra. Warm, practically eternal houses are built from their ossified wood. And since the resin is stored in the wood, not only heat comes from the stove, but also a subtle healing smell of pine.
To be continued … In the second part you will learn what the devil’s arable land is, where the lynx artist lived, where the bear trail leads and who disguises the Quiet People.

3. Introduction The homeland of the Olympic Games is Ancient Greece, namely the sanctuary of Olympia, revered by the Greeks, located at
western part of
Peloponnesian Peninsula. Here, at the foot of Mount Kronos, in the valley
the Alpheus River, the Olympic flame of the modern Games is still lit today.
This is where the torch relay begins … Tradition
The Olympic Games, which existed in ancient Greece, originated as part of
religious worship. The games were held from 776 BC. NS. to 394 n. BC, total
293 Olympiads were held in Olympia. From Olympia came
the name of the Games.
Games helped the Greeks not so much to fight well as well …
make friends – meet regularly, talk, exercise cultural
exchange, in general, to see that you are not standing in front of a “vile enemy from
hated Sparta “, as the propaganda claimed, and a friendly guy
with an open smile. That is, the Olympic Games contributed
destruction of the image of the enemy. But this is the most important thing in communication
peoples with each other!
4. In addition to the applied meaning, the Greeks loved sports for the fact that it uplifts, ennobles the soul, that it is inextricably linked with
mental, aesthetic and
moral development. You Can’t Be Human

Chapter 1. History of the Olympic Games
Information about the origin of the games is lost, but several myths have survived that describe this event. From
history, many documents, buildings and sculptures of that period have come down to us.If you look closely
take a closer look, then we note that all the statues of that period show the bodies of people and not just any bodies, but
beautiful. During that period of history, the cult of beautiful forms for buildings and the cult of beautiful buildings were widespread
Tel. “A healthy mind in a healthy body” – this is how one of the ideas and reasons for the appearance of such
beautiful sculptures. Sports activities and sports competitions began already in this ancient period.
Competition winners were revered as war heroes.First documented
the celebration dates back to 776 BC. They were established by Hercules, although it is known that games
have been carried out before. At the time of the Games, a sacred truce (έκεχειρία) was declared, at this
time it was impossible to wage a war, although this was repeatedly violated. Olympic Games substantially
lost their importance with the arrival of the Romans. After Christianity became the official religion,
games began to be seen as a manifestation of paganism, and in 394 AD.NS. they were banned
Emperor Theodosius I.
The center of the Olympic world of antiquity was the sacred district of Zeus at Olympia – a grove along the Alpheus
at the confluence of the Kladay brook. In this beautiful town of Hellas, almost three hundred times were arranged
traditional Greek competitions in honor of the god of thunder. The winds of the Ionian sea disturbed
mighty pines and oaks at the top of the Kronos hill. At its foot is a protected area,
the silence of which once every four years was broken by the Olympic celebration.
6. This is Olympia, the cradle of games. It is not the silent ruins that remind of its former greatness. Testimony from ancient authors,
statues and
the depictions on vases and coins recreate a picture of the Olympic spectacles.
The town of the same name later grew up near the sacred Olympia in
surrounded by orange and olive groves.
Today Olympia is a provincial tourist town that
flock to the Olympic ruins from all over the world. Everything in it is decidedly
Olympic: from the names of streets and hotels to dishes in taverns and souvenirs in
countless shops. It is notable for its museums –
archaeological and Olympic. If not for these treasures of antiquity, you can
would leave the town without regret, cross the stone bridge over the stream
Store, on the other side of which is the reserved Olympia. Nothing
the entrance to the sacred grove is remarkable. Blackened Marble Underfoot
steps and slabs of sacred shell rock. It is worth reaching out and
touch the branch of the wild olive, which crowned the head of Olympionicus.
7.Chapter 2. Modern Olympic Games The principles, rules and regulations of the Olympic Games are determined by the Olympic Charter, the foundations of
of which were approved by the International Sports Congress in Paris in 1894, which adopted
the proposal of the French educator and public figure Pierre de Coubertin decision on
the organization of the Games on the model of the ancient ones and the creation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
According to the charter, the Olympic Games “… unite amateur athletes from all countries in fair and
equal competition. With respect to countries and individuals, no
is allowed
discrimination on racial, religious or political grounds … ”. Games are held in the first
year of the 4-year (Olympic) cycle. The Olympiads have been counted since 1896, when the first
took place.
Olympic Games (I Olympiad – 1896-99). Summer Olympics gets its number and in cases
when games are not held (for example, VI – in 1916-19, XII-1940-43, XIII – 1944-47). In winter numbering
The Olympiads do not count the missed games (the IV games of 1936 were followed by the V games of 1948).
In the same year as the Olympics, the Winter Olympic Games have been held since 1924, which have their own
numbering. Since 1994, the dates for the Olympic Winter Games have been shifted by 2 years
relatively summer. The venue of the Olympiad is chosen by the IOC, the right to organize them
given to the city, not the country. The duration of the Games is on average 16-18 days. With
climatic features of different countries, the Summer Games can be held not only in the summer
months “.So XXVII Summer Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney (Australia), by virtue of location
Australia in the Southern Hemisphere, where summer begins in winter, were held in September, i.e.
in the spring.
8. The symbol of the Olympic Games is five connected rings, symbolizing the unification of the five parts of the world in the Olympic movement, the so-called.
Olympic rings. Ring color
in the top row – blue for Europe, black for Africa,
red for America, in the bottom row – yellow for Asia,
green for Australia.Besides Olympic sports,
the organizing committee has the right of its choice
include in the program demonstration competitions of 1-2
sports not recognized by the IOC. Olympic Movement
has its own emblem and flag, approved by the IOC according to
to Coubertin’s proposal in 1913. Emblem – Olympic
rings. The motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius (lat. “Faster, higher,
stronger”). Flag – white cloth with Olympic
rings, since 1920 rises at all Games.
9. Traditional rituals of the Olympic Games: 1. Lighting the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony. 2. Taking the Olympic Oath:

Since 1932, the host city has been building the “Olympic Village” – a complex of living quarters for participants
games.
The organizers of the Games are developing the symbols of the Olympics: the official emblem and mascot of the Games. Emblem
usually has a unique design, stylized according to the characteristics of the given country.Emblem
and the mascot of the Games are an integral part of the souvenirs produced on the eve of the Games in
large quantities. Souvenir revenues could account for a large portion of Olympics revenues,
however, they do not always cover the costs.
According to the statutes, the Games are competitions between individual athletes, not between
national teams. However, since 1908, the unofficial general command
standings – determination of the place occupied by teams by the number of points awarded for the first 3 places:
gold medal – 3 points, silver – 2, bronze – 1.The 5-3-1 system was also used. Thereby
the relative merit of the medals was assessed by the leaders of the national teams depending on the
of which medals were won by their team. Gained popularity since 1924 Games
a scheme according to which points were awarded for the first 6 places (according to the number of finalists in individual disciplines
Olympic program), often according to the system 7-5-4-3-2-1. Since 1988,
have been distributed
medal classification, in which the places of the teams are first distributed according to the number of gold medals, then
places of teams with an equal number of gold medals are ranked according to the number of silver medals.
With an equal number of gold and silver medals, the places of the teams are lined up by the number of
bronze medals. This corresponds to the fact that the title of Olympic champion is given for all time and
the title of ex-Olympic champion does not exist.

Chapter 4. Paralympic Movement
4.1 Paralympic Games.
Paralympic Games (Paralympic Games) – international sports competition for people with
disabilities.Traditionally held after the Olympic Games, starting with the Summer Paralympics
games of 1988 – at the same sports facilities; in 2001, this practice is enshrined in an agreement between the IOC and
International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Summer Paralympics have been held since 1960, winter
Paralympic Games – since 1976.
The emergence of sports in which disabled people can participate is associated with the name of English
neurosurgeon Ludwig Guttmann, who, overcoming age-old stereotypes in relation to people with physical
disadvantages, introduced sports into the process of rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries. He proved in practice,
that sport for people with disabilities creates conditions for a successful life,
restores mental balance, allows you to return to a full life regardless of physical activity
handicaps, strengthens the physical strength necessary to handle a wheelchair.
The name was originally associated with the term paraplegia paralysis of the lower limbs, since these competitions are
were carried out among people with diseases of the spine, but with the beginning of participation in games of athletes and with others
diseases were rethought as “near, outside the Olympics”; refers to parallelism and equality
Paralympic competitions with the Olympic. The spelling “Paralympic” is recorded in Academic
“Russian spelling dictionary” and other dictionaries. The spelling “Paralympic” is abnormal and in
dictionaries are not marked and is used only in official documents of state authorities, being
tracing of the official name (IOC) in English – Paralympic Games.
At first, the term “Paralympic Games” was used informally. The 1960 games were officially named
“Ninth International Stoke-Mandeville Games” and only in 1984 they were awarded the status of the first
Paralympic Games. The first games to which the term “Paralympics” was officially applied were the 1964 Games.
However, in a number of games up to the 1980 Games, the term “Olympic Games for the Disabled” was used, in
1984 – “International Games of Disabled People”. Finally, the term “Paralympic” was officially enshrined,
since the 1988 Games. Since 2005, a system has been introduced that allows participants to perform not only with the disease, but also
with deafness.

The Mandeville Games, which were open to more than just war veterans, were held
in 1960 in Rome. They are considered the first official Paralympic Games. In Rome

including the blind and visually impaired, paraplegics, as well as athletes with amputated

How Do I Get Into Harvard With A Poor GPA?
Previously, the question was asked: “How can I get to Haward with an amazing GPA?”
Disclaimer: I am not an admissions officer. My only relation to 86 Brattle Street is that they accepted me once, many years ago.
Think for five minutes that you don’t “have to go into Harvard.” Not seriously, step away from Cora and think about the fact that you not only should not, but also should not. Ask yourself what you would do with yourself if you knew you weren’t going to come in now.
I’ll wait.
Okay, welcome back. I hope you understand that not getting into Harvard is not really the end of the world. You won’t actually die. There are many, many good schools, and the best and most famous schools are not necessarily the best ones for learning and development. And even if you could get in, Harvard might not be the best place for you! (On the other hand, it can happen. I don’t know much about you, except that you asked a poorly formulated question about Quora.)
But, in response to the question, “Can I get into Harvard with a terrible GPA?” , The answer may be.
Is there anything other than academics that gets you out of bed in the morning? Is there something that if I asked you this, you could dissuade my ear for hours? Have you allowed this passion to drive you to do things that no one else is trying and get out of the other person’s experience? In short, is there something that makes you more interesting than the average student?
Harvard is not looking 4.0, 2400 applicants; they are looking for students to come to campus and contribute to the community of scholars, artists and thinkers. If you have a place in this community and you can report it to the admissions committee (sometimes easier said than done), they may decide to offer you admission. (Or not! At some level, it really is a cradle!) Grades are not the only thing that worries them; they are often the easiest way to determine at a glance if someone is capable of working hard and / or keeping up with the level of rigorous academics offered here.
90,000 rules and history of the game
Hockey is a team sports discipline played on an ice rink between two opposing sides, in which the puck is hammered with a hockey stick. The goal of the game is to throw the puck into the opponent’s goal. Victory is determined by the most goals scored. Ice hockey is the fastest team game that requires the participants to be fluent in its technical side (skating, stick and puck control), as well as impeccable training in strength and condition.
Thus, ice hockey is a difficult game, as a rule, for men, requiring athletes not only to adapt the body to the interval, enormous efforts, but also the ability to quickly recover strength. Today this sport attracts the attention of millions of fans, and not only fans, but also professional sports analysts follow the 2021 World Hockey Championship, the schedule of which is available on the website www.fonbet.ru.
History
Canada is the cradle and home of ice hockey. It appeared here in the early 19th century and was created on the basis of the previously cultivated games of lacrosse and shinny. The first ice hockey match was played in 1855 with the Canadian Royal Riflemen stationed in Halifax and Kingston. In March 1875, two student teams competed at the Victoria Skating Rink.
The first rules of a new sports discipline were created only in 1879 by two students at McGill University in Montreal.
- the size of the court was set, the size of the gate;
- abandoned the ball in favor of a wooden puck;
- set the circumference and weight of the game projectile;
- meeting time is fixed in 2 halves of 30 minutes;
90,624 the number of players was limited to 9 on each side (in 1886 the number of players was reduced to 7).
McGill alumni promoted ice hockey throughout Canada, and it soon became extremely popular. The new sport was so in demand in Canada that it was practiced on a massive scale. Numerous teams and first leagues were created: in Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston. Back in 1883, hockey had so many followers that it was included in the Montreal Ice Carnival program. It was the first tournament in which 6 of the country’s best teams took part, and the main prize – $ 750 – was won by students from McGill University.
By the end of the 19th century, ice hockey had definitely become a national sport in Canada and completely overshadowed lacrosse, gradually spreading across the globe.
