FOOTBALL: Shinnik (Yaroslavl)
Mikhail KONTUEV the holiday is treated a little frivolously
Today, March 23, is its 120th Anniversary celebrates… football grid! The idea to stretch the net between the goalposts came to the mind of civil engineer Brodie when he witnessed another dispute between football teams over a goal. In 1889In the same year, an Englishman received a patent for a net for football, lacrosse and other similar games. And although the engineer had other, more serious achievements, it was the football stack that brought him fame and money. According to the British newspaper The Independent, the net was first put on a goal in a football match between Nottingham Forest and Bolton Wanderes in 1890, and it was so effective that the Football Association of England made the use of the net mandatory.
In Yaroslavl, in the football club “Shinnik” they know about this holiday, but they treat it a little lightly.
– It’s really an interesting holiday, – director of the “Shinnik” stadium Yury Bratchenko admitted. – Of course, we do not consider it a special reason to celebrate it, but nevertheless, on this day, we remember the history of the grid and say “thank you for the idea”.
Actually, Yaroslavl residents have no reasons to associate any events with this date. Even the old-timers of Shinnik cannot remember anything interesting happening to the football nets at the club. As they say, grids “live” their own life and do not touch anyone.
– The only story, probably, happened in 2007, when we entered the Premier League, – they recall one incident in Shinnik. – After the last match, the fans ran onto the field, attacked the goal, broke it and tore the net.
BTW
The moment of scoring a goal remains the subject of heated debate during football matches. Nowadays, a net barrier is no longer enough to determine whether a goal was scored or not. So, in matches held by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), they use additional referees standing behind the gates. For example, the games of the European Championship, which will be held in 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, will be served by an expanded refereeing team. It is possible that soon the football goal line will be controlled electronically
