What are the best lacrosse shafts for youth players. How does weight affect a young player’s performance. Which materials offer the best balance of durability and lightweight design. How much should you invest in a youth lacrosse shaft.
Understanding the Importance of Lacrosse Shaft Weight for Youth Players
When it comes to selecting the best lacrosse shaft for youth players, weight is a crucial factor. Younger players often struggle with heavier equipment, which can hinder their ability to develop proper techniques. A lightweight shaft allows for better ball handling, improved shooting accuracy, and easier catching.
The total weight of a lacrosse stick is determined by both the head and the shaft. Most lacrosse heads weigh around 5 ounces, making the shaft the primary variable in overall weight. By choosing a lighter shaft, young players can significantly improve their performance and skill development.
Impact of Shaft Weight on Skill Development
- Easier passing and catching
- Improved shooting accuracy
- Better ball control
- Reduced fatigue during practice and games
- Faster development of proper techniques
Beginner Lacrosse Shafts: Affordable Options for New Players
For first-year youth players, particularly those aged 4-9, there are several affordable options available. These entry-level shafts are typically made from aluminum and provide a good starting point for beginners. While they may not offer the advanced features of more expensive models, they are suitable for learning the basics of the game.
Top Beginner Lacrosse Shafts
- STX Amp: Durable and reliable for beginners and backyard play
- STX Stallion 6000: A workhorse suitable for advancing youth players
- Brine 6065: Ideal for learning to catch and throw
These beginner shafts are priced at around $20 or less, making them an excellent choice for parents who are unsure about their child’s long-term commitment to the sport. As players progress and develop their skills, upgrading to a lighter shaft becomes beneficial for continued improvement.
Advanced Youth Lacrosse Shafts: Balancing Price and Performance
As young players advance in their lacrosse journey, investing in a higher-quality shaft can significantly impact their performance. These shafts are typically made from more advanced materials, offering a better balance of weight, durability, and grip.
Factors to Consider When Choosing an Advanced Youth Shaft
- Weight: Lighter shafts improve maneuverability and reduce fatigue
- Grip: Some shafts feature specialized textures to enhance control without added weight
- Durability: Higher-end materials can withstand more intense play
- Price: Advanced shafts range from $69 to $139, reflecting their quality and features
Top Attack Shafts for Youth Players: From Good to Best

The Benefits of Carbon Fiber Lacrosse Shafts for Youth Players
Carbon fiber has emerged as a popular material for high-end lacrosse shafts, offering several advantages for youth players:
- Extremely lightweight, improving maneuverability and reducing fatigue
- High strength-to-weight ratio, providing durability without added bulk
- Vibration dampening properties, reducing shock and improving feel
- Temperature stability, maintaining consistent performance in various weather conditions
While carbon fiber shafts are typically more expensive than their metal counterparts, the performance benefits can be significant for serious young players looking to take their game to the next level.
Choosing the Right Grip for Youth Lacrosse Shafts
Grip is a crucial factor in lacrosse shaft selection, especially for youth players developing their stick skills. Many players traditionally use tape to enhance grip, but this adds weight to the shaft. Modern shafts often feature specialized grip textures or finishes that provide excellent control without the need for tape.
Common Grip Types
- Smooth: Allows for easy hand switching but may require tape for added grip
- Textured: Provides built-in grip without added weight
- Sandpaper-like: Offers maximum grip but may wear down gloves more quickly
- Raised patterns: Enhances grip while maintaining a smooth overall feel
When selecting a shaft, consider your child’s preferences and playing style. Some players prefer a more tactile grip, while others favor a smoother surface for quicker hand adjustments.
Investing in Your Child’s Lacrosse Future: Balancing Cost and Quality
Choosing the right lacrosse shaft for a youth player involves balancing immediate needs with potential future growth. While it may be tempting to opt for the least expensive option, investing in a quality shaft can provide long-term benefits:
- Improved performance leading to greater enjoyment of the sport
- Longevity, potentially lasting through multiple seasons or even into high school
- Better resale value if your child outgrows the equipment
- Reduced need for frequent replacements due to higher durability
Consider your child’s commitment level and growth potential when deciding how much to invest. A more expensive shaft may be worthwhile for a dedicated player, while a mid-range option might be more appropriate for those still exploring the sport.
Tips for Making a Smart Investment
- Consider future growth: Choose a shaft that will accommodate your child’s development over a few seasons
- Look for versatility: Opt for shafts that can be used for multiple positions as your child’s playing style evolves
- Check for warranty options: Some manufacturers offer warranties on their higher-end shafts, providing added value
- Read reviews: Look for feedback from other parents and players to gauge real-world performance and durability
- Consult with coaches: Get input from your child’s coach on what features are most important for their current skill level and playing style
By carefully considering these factors, you can make an informed decision that supports your child’s lacrosse development without breaking the bank.
Best Lacrosse Shafts For Youth And Beginners Lacrosse Video
Understanding what the best lacrosse shaft is for youth players really comes down to price versus weight. Every coach will tell you, the heavier the weight of the lacrosse shaft, the harder it is for a younger player to develop proper passing techniques. Youth lacrosse players are just smaller, so their ball handling, shooting and catching will be affected by how heavy and cumbersome their stick it. Most lacrosse heads weigh in at about 5 oz., so it is the type of lacrosse shaft that will determine how much a stick will really weigh.
The list of beginner lacrosse shafts is simple. For first year youth players, you can get away with a cheap solution for about $20 or less. These youth lacrosse shafts will be made from aluminum and are fine for players ages 4-9, but no matter what age the player is, it will benefit them to get a lighter shaft the second they start learning to really catch and throw. There is really no notable difference between the shafts below except the graphics, and they are all at the same price point.
STX Amp – Durable and reliable for beginners and backyard play STX Stallion 6000 – A workhorse that is good for advancing youth players Brine 6065 – Good for learning to catch and throw
The list of lacrosse shafts for attack players is sorted by price and weight. The more expensive the shaft, the better and lighter the materials will be. A few of the carbon shafts made the list as well. To learn the difference between carbon and metal shafts watch our video. However, all you really need to know is that for younger offensive youth lacrosse players, weight and grip are the two primary factors in choosing a lacrosse shaft. Many players like to tape their shafts to add extra grip, but this obviously adds a lot of weight. For that reason, some shafts are made with finishes that help younger players keep a good grip and don’t require any tape. Here is the list of best attack shafts for youth players this season:

Smooth no frills grip helps players switch hands more easily. This is a high school level workhorse that could last for years for younger players. A bit of an investment, but will last into the future. STX Surgeon SC – $90 – Makes the list because of the weight. One of the lightest on the list. Great for developing attack, and for players that are progressing with their stick skills. Weighs in just under 6 oz. Maverik Hyperlite – $139 – Offered in both smooth matte grip and grit grip which is slightly sandy. These lacrosse shafts are simply awesome. Plenty of youth football coming Saturday in Friendswood
Lots of Friendswood youth football teams are still alive in the South Texas Youth Football Association playoffs. Here’s a rundown of the excitement taking place at Centennial Park this Saturday, Nov. 6.
In the 8 a.m. game, the Pee Wee Friendswood Broncos will play the Baytown Broncos, and the Friendswood Freshmen Colts will play at 9:30 a.m. against Dickinson. The Friendswood Broncos and Colts are alive in the Sophomore Division and will play about 11 a.m., while the Friendswood Broncos will be kicking things off somewhere around 12:30 p.m. in the Junior Division and the Broncos will carry the city’s hopes in the Senior Division with roughly a 2 p. m. kickoff.
Should a Friendswood team earn a berth in the STYFA Super Bowl, all the Super Bowls will be played at Lutheran South High School’s turf field on Nov. 13.
So, head on out to the park for some very entertaining football games. You can watch all those games and it won’t cost you a single penny. The cotton-candy people were out there last weekend. Maybe they’ll be returning for these semifinal assignments.
If your son or daughter didn’t take a liking to the mainstream sports, see how they like lacrosse. My knowledge of the sport is sketchy at best, but my older brother dabbled in it when he was in college. I can still picture his lacrosse stick at the house.
Anyway, Friendswood Youth Lacrosse is currently holding registration for the 2022 winter season. Registration closes Nov. 30; so if there’s a youngster at home who would like to give it a try, now’s the time to give these folks a call.
Games begin in mid-January and children from kindergarten through eighth grade can register. Prices range from $295 for those age 8 and under to $545 for the 14-and-under age bracket. One thing is guaranteed, kids who join will be lacrosse experts at season’s end because they’ll play in tournaments as well as numerous single games.
For more information, go to friendswoodyouthlacrosse.com. The email address is [email protected] and the phone number is 409-739-2874.
Don’t forget about the time change this weekend. We “fall back” one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7.
Starting Nov. 6, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is recommending children, ages 5 to 11, can be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine shot. Providers scheduled to receive the shots include entities in Friendswood, Alvin, Webster and Pearland and can be found at https://bityl.co/9REc.
.
.
The CDC website states that 28 million children in this age group across the nation are eligible for the vaccine that was proven to be 91 percent effective during clinical studies involving 3,100 youngsters in preventing COVID-19 among ages 5-11.

Sweden U-20 – Russia U-20: semi-finals of the World Youth Championship. Results, statistics, text online broadcast of the match, World Youth Championship, Sweden U-20 and Russia U-20, January 4, 2020
64
Previous finals are not very pleasant to remember. In 2015, they caught up with Canada as best they could, but something was missing. In 2016, enchantingly escaped defeat in the third period of the match with the Finns and conceded in overtime. Tomorrow Russia will face one of these rivals just right! The finale must be awesome!
64
Dubs of Ivan Morozov and Yegor Sokolov brought victory to Valery Bragin’s team today, another goal was scored by Alexander Khovanov. For the first time since 2016 Russia will play in the match for gold in the youth world championship !!!
64
FROST ROUTED ALL, MOVING FROM THE CENTER TO THE RIGHT WING, AND CLEARLY THROWED. WASHER IN THE GATE, RUSSIA IN THE FINAL !!!
64
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL !!!
63
Fagemo cut through the Russians’ zone in the center, got close to Miftakhov to the limit and did not understand how to break through.
63
Dorofeev hit the goal from the center! Past.
62
Danger! Ericsson threw the stick forward in front of Miftakhov’s goal and poked the puck into the target, but Amir brought the shields down in time!
62
Sederstrem threatenedly drove around Miftakhov’s goal with a puck, but didn’t really come up with anything.
61
Shifts, of course, are not long.
61
Podkolzin, Voronkov and Romanov were the first to leave from the side of the Russians.
60
Interestingly, the fact that Miftakhov entered the game already in the third period, that he is fresher than Alnefelt, will it have a positive effect in overtime?
60
Siren! This mess could not end within sixty minutes! There will be overtime! Three against three!
60
Marchenko created a chance for himself with a sweeping feint and threw it at the neighbor after a valiant swing! Not exactly!
60
Raymond was left alone on a penny, a sketch flew there from the depths, but Miftakhov is reliable. The forward hooked the goalkeeper with his stick on the trap. Zhuravlev clearly explained to the Swede that this should not be done.
59
Now the Russians have made a pass. The forwards seem to have changed, but the defenders did not have time.
59
Voronkov and Marchenko dug in with a puck in the corner, then Misul threw it to a nickle from the depths of the site. To no avail.
59
The Swedes suddenly rushed forward, unsuccessfully disposing of the puck in their zone.
58
The Swedes pressed the Russians a bit.The puck did not visit the area of the Scandinavian national team for a couple of minutes, but this is over. In any case, there were no really sharp shots at Miftakhov’s goal.
56
Pasic played on his nerves! He removed a couple of guys in red on the backswing, didn’t shoot himself, but he didn’t make an accurate pass to the center either!
56
Aleksandrov got some room on the left wing of the attack, but let the puck go a little away from him and could not make a really sharp pass to the nickle, where Marchenko went.
55
Save Miftakhova! It was about five minutes empty running back and forth, suddenly the Swedes pulled out the puck right in front of Amir’s goal, but he perfectly spread his limbs to the sides and left no loopholes, parrying two shots in a row! It was Beck who missed the chance!
50
What a moment! Gustafsson caught the puck on the line of his goal, dropping under the far post! Alnefelt was already powerless, but his partner backed him up with surgical precision!
49
Sokolov today morally dominates Alnefelt, it was Yegor who embodied the goalkeeper’s gross mistake in the first period.
49
GOOOOOOOOL! Russia has made equal! Sokolov drove to the goal from the left wing of the attack, played a short game with Khovanov to divert his eyes and thrust the puck past Alnefelt with a cunning throw from a minimum distance! 4: 4 !!! This is a shootout!
49
And Romanov himself hit the Swede in the opposite corner! Opponent rolled aboard!
48
Romanov got hit by a colorful hit in the corner, but got up without any problems, even without lying for a second.
45
Askarov shakes his head on the bench while the director holds him in close-up. And the Swede Sandin already has four points today! He is elusive for the Russians.
45
Askarov left the ice. Yaroslav missed four goals – it’s time to give way to Amir Miftakhov.
45
Goal! The Swedes took the lead, headlong realizing the majority! Lundqvist drove a weave-nail into Askarov’s gate! Russia loses – 3: 4.
44
Swedes have the majority! It turns out that Sorkin prevented the puck from being sent to Askarov’s goal from a nickle after Norlinder’s throw.
44
Fagemo laid a sweeping bend and gave it to Norlinder, who did not hit the far lower one, and the partners did not correct on the nickle!
43
Dorofeev received the puck in front of the target from a partner who rolled out from behind the goal. It was completely inconvenient to turn around, and the defender and the goalkeeper were not going to give Pavel much time.
43
Dorofeev was throwing from a fairly sharp angle. Not exactly. Sandine got in the way.
42
Khovanov left the penalty box! If you remember, he got 2 + 10 in the second period, hitting the Swede in the head with his elbow.Well, it is necessary to compensate for the imprisonment with zealous dedication!
41
And Kirill’s second attempt came out more interesting! He intercepted the puck not far from the goal and threw it quite sharply, but failed to score.
41
Marchenko opened the third period with his throw, but it was not dangerous.
40
Siren! The Russian national team lost this period, and before the last twenty minutes the score was 3: 3. There are a lot of deletions today, what will happen next?
40
Arbitrators organized a viewing just in case.Judging by the plan from above, the puck did not fly into the goal in any way. Alnefelt luckyly threw the club parallel to the line. The score has not changed.
39
SuperSave Alnefelt with a stick! Marchenko had a great chance! Cyril did not understand in front of an empty corner, to which Podkolzin led him with a thin pass behind his back! Most were unsuccessful!
39
Morozov looms dangerously in the center in front of the gate, but he fails to successfully complete the combination.
38
Morozov won the throw-in, the Russians were about to start the rally, but the Swedes did not lose heart and quickly threw it away. Bragin’s team has to part on a new one.
38
Another deletion! The Swedish hero Sandin hit Denisenko in the stomach with a stick.
37
The Swedes won a throw-in in a foreign zone, and a volley from the blue thundered, but did not reach Askarov’s goal.
36
Podkolzin almost beat all the field Swedes, trying to slip to the goal diagonally, but still did not give a ride.
35
The Swedes easily killed the second minute. The puck entered the Russians’ zone a couple of times.
34
Sokolov threw in touch, opening between two circles! There is no goal, as well as finishing.
33
Opponents today do not enjoy playing with full squads. Broberg in the middle zone slammed into the thigh of Marchenko, who was preparing to cross the blue at speed. Russia has a numerical advantage!
31
Goal! 3: 3! The Swedes played the first minute of the majority rather blandly, but then Sandine became more active. At first, he played dangerously on finishing moves, and then gracefully loaded from the blue! Sandin already has three points today, we need to do something with this guy!
30
2 + 10 Khovanov grabbed! He hit the opponent’s head with his elbow at the side! Unjustified rudeness.
28
Misul shmalnul on goal, effortlessly removing Sederstrem one to one. Alnefelt stopped the puck without any problems.
26
What a chance for Khovanov! Sasha was suddenly left alone in front of the goal with the puck! And he gave it back without a blind throw, and there was only a Swede! Khovanov apparently decided that there was too little room to beat Alnefelt.
24
Finally, both teams have regained full strength on the ice. Nobody realized a majority in the chaotic opening of the period.
24
Denisenko threw cool, but Alnefelt parried with his right shoulder. Remained a quarter of a minute to spend in the majority of Russians.
22
Some confusion! The Swedes clashed at their shop, and this is a violation of the numerical strength on their part! The majority will soon go to the Russians if no one abandons it!
21
The Russians did not implement the removal of Lundqvist and immediately remained in the minority.Podkolzin cut himself off the site with a similar violation.
21
The second period has begun!
20
The Russians brought Morozov to a throw from the slot, but it didn’t work out normally, the puck didn’t even get close to Alnefelt. 3: 2 in favor of Bragin and the guys after the first period.
19
Removal from the Swedes! Denisenko and Sokolov ran out together against one, Lundqvist hit Grisha’s stick in front of the goal! If you fail to realize it in the next one and a half minutes, then the majority will shift to the second period.
17
Podkolzin created a half-chance for Voronkov, but Dmitry failed to throw.
16
It is very dangerous at the Askarov gate! Zhuravlev from the very line brought a draw puck, which has already slipped through the goalkeeper! The surest chance for the Swedes, but Daniil very carefully played with a club hook and insured Askarov!
15
GOOOOOOOOL! The Swedes played one goal. A series of sweeping attacks, Fagemo from the depths of the court, without resistance, rolled onto the throw-in circle and precisely planted into the goal! 3: 2 in favor of Russia on the basis of all this.
14
Romanov sat down on the penalty box. He pushed Oberg with his club.

Oh, the Swedes settled on a penny, Askarov fought back with difficulty, but the Russians will be removed.

GOOOOOOOOOL! 3: 1 in favor of Russia! Alnefelt’s head was clearly spinning during this period! He jumped into the face-off circle and threw the puck right at Sokolov! Yegor clearly sent to the empty target!
12
Galenyuk practically rolled one on one with Alnefelt and threw it towards the far post, but missed! Oh, what a moment!

Swedes in full force. Holtz served five minutes in boxing, Heglander’s big penalty resulted in only one goal, but the Russians continue to attack.

Rod! The Russians are furiously playing the majority today!
6
GOOOOOOOOL! Khovanov watched the puck, which bounced off the patch to the edge of the throw-in circle, and smacked it clearly with his club! Alnefelt did not have time to orient himself! 2: 1 in favor of Russia, and Bragin’s team is still in the majority!

With Denisenko, everything seems to be more or less in order.

The arbitrators soldered the Swede for five minutes! That’s it, Heglander won’t play again today! And this is the best scorer of the Scandinavian national team at the World Championship, he has 10 points!

Again removal from the Swedes! Heglander in the center of the platform put his hand on Denisenko, and Grigory flew into the side! Oh oh oh! A very rough game of the Swede!

The match has begun!
The Swedes on Thursday played their last run, Bragin’s team – the earliest. It is unlikely that this will give the Russians a big advantage today, because on Friday everyone had the opportunity to have a good rest.
The Scandinavian team scattered the Czech hosts in the ¼ final with a score of 5: 0! The Russians removed the Swiss not so brightly – 3: 1.
Hello, hello! The Russian youth team has not played in the World Cup final since 2016. Today there is a chance to finally reach the decisive match, but for this it is necessary to defeat not weak Swedes.
The main problems of children’s hockey (part three)
In a series of articles about: problems of children’s hockey (part two), we have come to the final part. Earlier we discussed the human factor: parental pressure on young hockey players as one of the problems of children’s hockey. Now we will touch on the age closer to MHL , but the problem will remain the same – the human factor.
Throughout our lives, we are faced with likes and dislikes from other people, and this is not a problem if it does not interfere with professional or educational activities.
How can this be manifested in children’s sports?
Situation: player 15-16 years old , not far off Youth Hockey League , the hockey player’s game performance is not bad, but the youth team is not even allowed to watch the training. And no one understands what this is connected with, and the hockey player himself, instead of increasing his condition, racks his head why he is not allowed closer to professional hockey. In fact, the problem may not be connected at all with the hockey activity of the player, but with the very human factor. Perhaps the athlete did not find a common language with someone from the leadership of the youth team , and therefore the development in this system was stopped for him.
Fair? Of course not. On a sporting basis? No, too. In fact, this is a serious problem in sports, many promising guys are forced to leave for other cities in Russia or countries, or even end their careers altogether.
Corruption in hockey.
And this is perhaps the most serious problem of Russian sports. And whoever says anything, this problem has a place to be. Parents are ready to use all the connections and financial capabilities of so that their child plays, say, in the top five or gets into MHL .Of course, parents do this out of a great desire to help their child play or open up, but this help is not always needed. Firstly, this is not help, but rather “disservice” , because if a person does not qualify for a team on a sports basis, then there are guys who are stronger, and secondly, such a player takes someone else’s place, perhaps , a more prepared or talented guy.
In modern hockey in Russia, of course, they try in every possible way to counteract such situations, and this bears fruit. But, we must pay tribute to the fact that the problem of corruption is especially acute in domestic hockey, and, in principle, in Russian sports in general.
90,000 NHL playoff bets and odds 1 August 2020
Three to four days got the NHL teams in the “bubble” to get used to the ice in Edmonton and Toronto, to remember how to hold the clubs correctly and what the puck looks like. The National Hockey League returns after quarantine. Conditions are harsh, only the strongest will survive.
In my blog, as far as possible, I will cover the most interesting confrontations of the upcoming playoffs (and Round Robin). I will pay special attention, of course, to Russian legionnaires in American (now it would be more correct to say “Canadian”) hockey. I’ll start with the Carolina-Rangers Eastern Conference megazar, the first match of which is scheduled for August 1 at 19:00 Moscow time.
Let me remind you that all series in the qualifying playoffs are up to three wins. Carolina and Rangers will play five matches (if needed) on the ice at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Let’s go back almost five months and record Carolina’s statistics before the suspension of the 2019/20 regular season:
