Oakley’s Game-Changing Partnership with the NFL
In a groundbreaking move, Oakley has partnered with the National Football League (NFL) to bring cutting-edge visor technology to the gridiron. This four-year deal, announced at the start of the 2019 NFL season, marks a significant shift in the league’s approach to player equipment and visual enhancement on the field.
The partnership allows all NFL players to wear Oakley shields and eyewear featuring the company’s revolutionary Prizm Lens Technology. This move not only enhances player performance but also opens up new possibilities for fan engagement and merchandise.
Key Features of the Oakley-NFL Partnership
- Four-year exclusive deal starting in 2019
- All players have access to Oakley shields with Prizm Lens Technology
- Tinted visors now permitted for all players, not just those with medical waivers
- Fan-oriented NFL eyewear collection available
Understanding Prizm Lens Technology: A Visual Revolution
Oakley’s Prizm Lens Technology is at the heart of this partnership. But what exactly is this technology, and how does it benefit NFL players?
Prizm Lens Technology is the result of decades of research and development by Oakley. It’s designed to enhance visual clarity and optimize contrast, allowing players to see details on the field with unprecedented precision.
Benefits of Prizm Lens Technology for NFL Players
- Enhanced color contrast for better depth perception
- Improved visibility in various lighting conditions
- Reduced eye strain during long games
- Customized visual experience for different positions and playing styles
By incorporating this technology into NFL helmets, Oakley aims to give players a competitive edge through improved visual acuity and reaction time.
Inside the Helmet: A Player’s Perspective
To showcase the impact of their new partnership, Oakley created an innovative point-of-view (POV) video featuring NFL stars. This immersive experience allows fans to see through the eyes of professional players and understand the visual enhancements provided by Prizm Lens Technology.
Featured Players in Oakley’s POV Video
- Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback
- JuJu Smith-Schuster – Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver
- Derwin James – Los Angeles Chargers Safety
The video demonstrates the clarity and detail players experience with the new Prizm visors, offering a unique glimpse into the on-field perspective of NFL athletes.
The Evolution of NFL Visor Regulations
The Oakley partnership marks a significant shift in NFL visor policy. Previously, the league had strict regulations regarding tinted visors, only allowing them for players with approved medical waivers. How has this policy evolved, and what does it mean for players and fans?
Historical Context of NFL Visor Regulations
- 1990s: Tinted visors popularized by players like Michael Vick and LaDainian Tomlinson
- Early 2000s: NFL begins restricting tinted visors to players with medical waivers
- 2019: Oakley partnership allows all players to wear slightly tinted Prizm Lens Clear shields
This change represents a balance between player preference, performance enhancement, and league oversight. The slight tint of the Prizm Lens Clear shields provides visual benefits without compromising player identification or official oversight during games.
Impact on Player Performance and Safety
While the visual enhancements are clear, how might these new visors affect player performance and safety on the field? The Prizm Lens Technology is designed to offer several potential benefits:
- Improved reaction time due to enhanced visual clarity
- Reduced glare, particularly during night games or in stadiums with bright lighting
- Potential reduction in eye strain and fatigue during long games
- Customized visual experience based on position-specific needs
However, it’s important to note that while these benefits are promising, their impact on overall player performance and safety will need to be studied over time as the technology is implemented across the league.
Fan Engagement: Bringing NFL Eyewear to the Masses
Oakley’s partnership with the NFL extends beyond the playing field. How can fans get involved and show support for their favorite teams through this collaboration?
As part of the agreement, Oakley has launched a special-edition NFL eyewear collection for fans. This collection allows supporters to experience similar technology to what the players use on the field.

- Adapting rules and regulations to accommodate new technologies
- Evaluating long-term impacts on player health and game dynamics
As more advanced technologies are introduced to professional sports, leagues like the NFL will need to carefully consider their implications and establish guidelines for their use.
The Intersection of Fashion and Function in Sports Eyewear
Oakley’s NFL partnership also highlights the growing intersection of fashion and function in sports equipment. How does this trend impact both player and fan experiences?

Potential Global Effects of NFL Innovation
- Adoption of similar technologies in international football leagues
- Increased interest in NFL games from international audiences
- Collaborations between NFL and international sports organizations

From enhancing player performance to revolutionizing fan engagement, this collaboration sets a new standard for innovation in professional athletics. As we look to the future, it’s clear that the intersection of sports, technology, and marketing will continue to evolve, creating exciting opportunities for players, fans, and industry stakeholders alike. LOOK: Here’s what NFL helmet visors will now look like under new Oakley partnership
They were made famous by superstars like Michael Vick and LaDainian Tomlinson.
Now, for the first time in modern NFL history, they’ll be available to all players.
More than two decades after the league started banning tinted visors except for players with approved medical waivers, the NFL will permit all players to wear slightly colored shields thanks to an exclusive new partnership with Oakley, the California-based producer of visors, sunglasses and other sports apparel.
Announced this week, the four-year partnership makes Oakley the first official on-field partner and licensee of the league’s eyewear and will kick off with the 2019 season, when all 32 NFL teams will be outfitted with Oakley’s Prizm Lens helmet shields. As part of the agreement, all players will have the option to wear Oakley’s Prizm Lens Clear shields, which have a slight color tint.
Patrick Mahomes models the new tinted shields that will be permitted under the NFL’s partnership with Oakley.
Oakley
Previously, players could select the shield brand of their choice — whether they wore clear visors or received medical clearance for a tinted shield. Now, all helmet shields will be visibly branded with Oakley’s signature “O.”
Oakley has been producing helmet shields for more than 20 years, providing the product to athletes at all levels of the sport. This season will simply mark its first foray into the NFL on a full-time, exclusive basis.
Strategically speaking, the change isn’t likely to have a dramatic impact on the game, as the tints are not as dark-colored as the visors worn by past greats like Vick and L.T. Still, Oakley’s emergence represents another new implementation of on-field apparel sponsorship for the NFL, which last year renewed its game-day apparel and jersey partnership with Nike through 2028.
JuJu Smith-Schuster models the new Oakley helmet shields that will be worn in the NFL starting in 2019.
Oakley
Backed by NFL stars and new Oakley partners Patrick Mahomes, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Derwin James, the Oakley agreement will also feature a specially designed NFL eyewear collection for fans. Oakley will produce two men’s-style sunglasses, complete with Prizm lens, official logo etches and team color accents for all 32 teams, as well as a women’s-style design, Low Key, available in seven different teams. Fans can also customize select frames as part of the eyewear collection using Oakley’s Custom Program.

We may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.
Whether you are getting involved in football for the first time or preparing for a new season, you have likely realized that playing football requires a lot of gear. Arguably, one of the most essential pieces of equipment is the football helmet. If you are considering a visor for your helmet, you may be wondering if all visors fit all helmets. We have researched for you to bring you this answer.
Most visors are made with a universal fit so that they can be used with almost all football helmets. Helmets that are custom or a special size may not be able to use visors that are considered universal.
Keep reading to learn more about popular visors available on the market and how to choose the right one for your helmet.
Popular Visor Brands
Football visors are available from well-known brands as well as generic brands. Take a look at the most well-known visor brands to see what helmet sizes they accommodate.
EliteTek
The EliteTek football visors are available in clear finishes and a variety of tinted and mirrored finishes. EliteTek states that their visors fit both adult and youth helmets. They caution that their visors fit on youth extra small and small helmets, but they require some adjustment to make them fit correctly.

Oakley
Oakley visors are universal and can fit on most football helmets in both youth and adult sizes. They are available in clear and in a variety of tints.

Is Oakley Prism Visor Legal?
Forbes confirms that the NFL is allowing players to utilize the Oakley Prism visor. The NFL collaborated with Oakley to create a visor that is tinted but allowable on the field. High School teams are unlikely to consider this visor legal because they tend to enforce a strict rule forbidding any tinted visors.
Barnett

Unique Sports
Unique Sports visors are advertised as universal and fit most helmets. However, some reviews state that the fit was less than perfect on some youth football helmets.

What Helmets Do Nike Visors Fit?
Nike visors are universal and are expected to fit nearly all football helmets available on the market.
Choosing The Correct Visor
With so many choices available, it isn’t easy to decide which football visor is the right one for your helmet. However, there are some things you can do to ensure that you are purchasing the correct visor.
Adult Or Youth
While some visors fit all helmets, both adult and youth, other visors are specifically made for either adult or youth helmets. The first step to finding the perfect fitting visor is to ensure that the visor you are getting is made for your adult or youth helmet.
Proper Helmet Size
It is unlikely that your visor will work well for you if your helmet does not fit you properly. To find your helmet size, use a measuring tape to measure your head about an inch above your eyebrows. Then choose the helmet size that matches the measurement that you took. For example, an adult size small fits heads with a circumference of 20.5 inches to 21.5 inches. A youth size medium fits heads with a circumference of about 19 inches to 20 inches. Light Helmets provides a good guide for measuring and fitting your football helmet.
Helmet Brand
While many visor brands have a universal fit, some brands work exceptionally well with certain helmets. For example, Oakley’s Gridiron shield is not recommended for Riddell Speedflex helmets, but Oakley’s Pro shield is recommended as a good fit for the Riddell Speedflex helmets.
One way to narrow down the options you have for your helmet is to determine what visor brands are recommended for that helmet. For example, the Schutt F7 adult football helmet is compatible with all Schutt visors, the Shoc Zero-G visor, and the Oakly Prizm visor, to name a few.
Installation
Even if you’ve chosen the perfect visor to go with your helmet, it will not fit properly if you do not follow the installation instructions. Some visors work better with some helmets than others, despite being considered universal because each helmet has its own structure and fit. In contrast, each visor has its own procedure for being installed. So if a football helmet has a particularly narrow fit, for example, it might not be able to accommodate a visor with wider-set clips.
The video below will explain how football visors are generally installed but be sure to pay special attention to the instructions provided by your specific football and visor manufacturers.
For Special Size Needs
Most football visors will fit helmets that range from a youth extra small to an adult extra-large. This size range fits heads between 19 inches and 25 inches. If your head size falls out of this range, you may need to consider a custom helmet. Naturally, you will also likely need a custom visor to fit it.
Before deciding to go with a custom option, though, take the time to research different helmet brands. You may find that the range of head sizes that one brand will accommodate is different than another brand’s range. For example, Schutt helmets start at a head size of 19 inches, while Xenith helmets start at a head size of 19.75 inches.
Why Do Football Players Wear Visors?
Football players wear visors to protect them from injury while they are playing football. The visors protect their eyes from collisions with other players as well as debris from the fast-paced environment in which they are playing.
Why Are Tinted Visors Illegal In Football?
The NFL states that tinted visors are illegal in pro football because they interfere with medical personnel’s ability to quickly assess players for serious injuries. Ironically, the exemption that allows tinted visors is also safety-related.
Players who have light sensitivity, especially when it makes them susceptible to migraines, can receive special permission to wear tinted visors. Because there are both legitimate risks and benefits to wearing tinted visors, the NFL goes back and forth on implementing this rule.
What Visor Fits A Speedflex?
According to NXTRND, a popular football gear retailer, the following visors are expected to fit a Speedflex helmet: Oakley, VZR1, Nike, Shutt, and Under Armour.
Click here to see one recommended visor, by Under Armour, on Amazon.
Can A Football Visor Have A Prescription?
No. There are no prescription visors on the market, nor do any companies make visors with prescriptions. Instead, players opt for prescription football goggles that can be safely worn during gameplay.
Does Walmart Have Football Visors?
While Walmart doesn’t carry any football visors in stores, you can utilize their website to purchase football visors from other retailers.
Summary
Since most football visors are universal, you can choose the one that best fits your preference in most cases. If you are purchasing a visor for a youth, pay special attention to whether or not the brand of your choice offers a visor specifically for youth. It is best to check with your coach or team representative before purchasing your visor so that you are aware of any rules or restrictions regarding visors.

Oakley Legacy Visor – Clear – Green Gridiron, Inc.
The Clear Oakley Legacy Visor
Using HDO technology, Oakley football shields eliminate the distortion found in the industry’s first-generation polycarbonate visors. Oakley uses PLUTONITE®, a proprietary synthetic that sets a new standard for durability. Whether it’s a helmet-to-helmet collision, eye-gouging or wind-blown debris, PLUTONITE offers the highest level of protection. But it’s not just the material that makes Oakley shields better. It’s the geometry.
Oakley uses injection molding to shape the shield with unique curvature. The contours are designed with CAD/CAM engineering to maintain clarity at all angles of vision, even at the sides, so your peripheral view is optimized. PLUTONITE shield material inherently blocks 100% of all UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm. That means even clear Oakley shields filter out all the bad rays. All Oakley football shields are manufactured with AFR lens treatment, which translates to anti-fog performance and improved scratch resistance. Optional lens tints allow the player to precisely tune light transmission for game conditions, offering yet another competitive advantage with Oakley technology.

NFL unveils Oakley Mouth Shield to combat coronavirus
In the name of health and safety, NFL players could be sporting a whole new look in 2020.
The Oakley Mouth Shield — a product designed by Oakley in collaboration with doctors and engineers from the NFL and NFL Players Association to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus on the field of play — is expected to be distributed to all 32 teams over the next week, when it will receive a test drive on a much larger scale than it has gotten to date.
Safety protocol negotiations are ongoing between the league and players. Currently, there is no mandate to wear a face shield, but the NFL’s medical experts are advocating for the use of the protective equipment.
“That’s certainly what we’re going to encourage,” said Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL’s chief medical officer. “And we hope that we’re going to land on a product design that’s something that everyone would want to wear, because they’ll see the value and want that additional protection without any detriment to performance.”
The Oakley Mouth Shield is expected to be distributed to all 32 teams over the next week, when it will receive a test drive on a much larger scale than it has gotten to date. NFL
The Oakley Prizm Lens Technology used by skiers, military personnel and, most recently, NFL players for enhanced color and contrast in their visors is featured in the new design. Plastic sheets extend down and attach to the face guard. There are airways and openings on the mouth shield but none that allow the direct transmission of droplets, according to the chair of the NFL’s engineering committee, Dr. Jeff Crandall.
The mouth shield has already been distributed to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers — two teams close to Oakley’s home base — per NFLPA medical director Dr. Thom Mayer, and has also been sent to various player representatives and equipment managers for feedback.
The two biggest concerns to date have been visibility and breathability, according to Mayer.

Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon debate how players will react to the NFL’s new face shields used to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
“We’ve only had it on a few players — we have 2,500 players in the league — but I was surprised that . .. claustrophobia has not been an issue yet,” he said. “I think it will be when we [have more players testing them].”
Houston Texans star defensive lineman J.J. Watt, for one, is firmly against the idea of wearing a face shield.
“My second year in the league I thought it’d be cool, I put a visor on my helmet,” Watt told ProFootballTalk. “I was like, ‘It looks so cool, I wanna put a visor on.’ I had it on for about three periods of practice and I said, ‘Take this sucker off — I’m gonna die out here.’ … So now you’re gonna put something around my mouth? You can keep that. If that comes into play, I don’t think you’re gonna see me on the field.”
Courtesy of the NFL
And Watt’s not alone, as other players also are pushing back against the face shields as they negotiate safety protocols with the NFL, expressing concerns about their effect on their field of vision, sources told ESPN’s Dan Graziano.
The current face shield design is the result of an iterative process based in large part on player feedback, with comfort and functionality top of mind along with protection. Quarterbacks who tested them recently were able to effectively call out plays, Mayer said, following initial responses that the sound was too muffled. There was also broad consideration given to field of view.
Crandall said that Oakley has conducted internal testing in which it has sprayed particles of fluid to represent droplets expelled by players and has seen a high success rate of blocked transmission.
“I don’t know that there’s a direct percentage that anyone’s come up with because a laboratory is not the on-field environment, obviously,” Crandall said. “There’s lots of things that players do on the fields that they’re not easily replicating [in] the laboratory, but it is a significant blockage to transmission of droplets. There is no straight pathway through the face shield or visor for a droplet to be transmitted. ”
While Oakley is the official supplier of the NFL, there are other manufacturers of face shields, and players may end up using other brands as well in 2020, according to chief revenue officer and executive vice president of NFL partnership Renie Anderson.
Mayer called football “probably the perfect milieu or petri dish in which to transmit the virus,” given that it is a contact sport involving a large number of players. The NFL and NFLPA are hoping the different safety measures they are taking, including the introduction of the mouth shield, will lead to a safer environment.
“Just like everything we do, whether we’re talking about better cleats or better performing helmets, it’s all about something that’s safer and yet also protects and in many cases enhances performance,” Sills said. “That’s the same mantra and the same sort of approach that we’re taking here. I’m really pleased with how the work is going along. We’re not at a finished product yet. Like most things in health safety, there’s really no finish line here. So we’re hoping to continue to innovate and improve as we go along. But we’re excited about where we are and excited about the potential role this may play in risk mitigation on the field.”
NFL allowing players to wear lightly tinted Oakley helmet visors
More than 20 years after the NFL banned tinted visors from the game, they’re making a comeback.
Sort of.
On Tuesday, the NFL will announce a four-year partnership with Oakley to make helmet visors; players will now have the option to wear Oakley Prizm Clear shields, a lightly tinted visor meant to enhance visual acuity and spatial awareness in players. The visor, which the league has been quietly rolling out since the Pro Bowl, has a pinkish hue that sharp eyes would have already noticed this preseason, and the partnership adds a new logo to every NFL field.
“We really just got excited about a brand that’s so endemic to sports, but also one that’s a leader in their category from an optical standpoint,” Nana-Yaw Asamoah, the NFL’s VP of business development, tells the MMQB. “We’ve had rules around visors and what players are allowed to wear on the field, but we haven’t had any relationships there. Through conversations what became uncovered was that from both a performance and safety standpoint, there was a lot more that could be done in this space and working with a brand like Oakley could really take us to the next level on that. ”
The Prizm lens was created with the intention of making the colors on the field pop. The football against the green field and the white hashmarks and sidelines should all stand out more to the player. The lens doesn’t take the place of corrective lenses (these are not medicated shields) but it does increase visual acuity.
Wayne Chumbley, head of Oakley’s Vision Performance Lab, provides a more scientific explanation.
“Prizm is a light-management technology. We can filter light in a way to leverage your natural visual acuity,” Chumbley says. “So we see colors—red, green and blue—naturally. If you can heighten your sensitivity in areas, it can create a lot of color contrast which creates a better depth perception scenario for you. So with Prizm clear, what we’re doing is we’re eliminating areas of color confusion.
“Between green and red there’s an area of cone overlap and cone sensitivity, and if we knock down that area of overlap, you actually see all the colors better. ”
The league has allowed players to wear clear shields in the past, but the dark-tinted visors had to be approved by the league for players with medical exceptions. Asamoah says 14 players were approved for that exception in the 2018 season, and it’s unclear how many will get it this season.
The league banned tinted visors in 1998, with the exception of those few medical situations, for safety reasons. If, for example, a player was knocked out on the field, athletic trainers or doctors would have a hard time seeing the player’s eyes through the tinted shield, and there would be too great a risk to remove the helmet on a player with a possible head or neck injury. (Shields today can be easily and safely removed without removing the helmet. )
“Just going from a regular visor that we had before to this visor, I know definitely preseason playing night games it’s much better,” second-year Panthers receiver Curtis Samuel says, who’s been wearing the Prizm all preseason. “It dims the lights a little bit. It allows you to have a better opportunity to track the ball down. It just feels better overall. It’s clearer to look out of.”
But there was a secondary reason for the ban: marketing and branding.
“We’re kind of at a disadvantage from some of the other stick-and-ball sports in terms of being able to identify our players when they’re playing and really building their profile,” Asamoah says. “When they came to us with Prizm and what we could do together from a performance standpoint with our players, while at the same time still having an element of being able to see players eyes and finding a comfortable medium for everybody, it was a compelling proposition.”
Chumbley says this is the least amount of dye they could use to get the performance effects, and at first the league wanted the tint even lighter. The NFL relented when they got feedback from the players on how much their vision was enhanced.
While the players tested the visors on the field during the Pro Bowl, the league was testing fans off it. Asamoah says the league hired a third-party company to survey more than 400 people in three different models. The NFL got feedback from fans on what visors were too tinted and if the visors looked “cool.”
“We went through quite a bit to really tell the story of why this made sense,” Asamoah says. “It was from a player standpoint, a broadcaster standpoint, a fan standpoint and really telling a holistic story of one, why Oakley was the right partner for this, and why the product made sense and wasn’t going to do anything to take away from the game.”
The partnership also comes with a logo. An NFL field is a sacred marketing space, but the uniform is even more hallowed. Consider that there’s still no movement for an advertising patch on the jersey while several leagues are reaping tens of millions each year from it.
The most valuable advertising space in the NFL is from the chest and up, and now there will be three logos: Nike’s swoosh on the sleeve, the NFL shield (or this year the NFL 100 mark) on the chest and now the Oakley O on the helmet.
“With all the partners, the one consistent thing is they are endemic and true to what they’re being branded on,” Asamoah says. “That’s the real threshold that we’ve historically looked at with partners on the field is that they are bringing true value to the game and they are branded on what their product is. When we entered into this agreement with Oakley, with the value they were bringing to the table, what they were doing for our game from an optics and safety standpoint, the proof is in the pudding and at that point branding made sense for us.”

This California-based company is known to be a holder of more than 600 patents. Its main goal is to provide equipment to world-class athletes around the globe so that they can be at their best during their game.
This renowned corporation has created various sports gears such as football visors and these are incorporated with state-of-the-art features. These include the High Definition Optics which always comes in sun and prescription eyewear and goggles.
Numerous inventions and unique models were already made by this company and below are three of their visor masterpieces:
Oakley Men’s Football Visor – Clear
You can choose a lot of eye-shield models but this model is one of the best they’ve come up so far. It comes in an Oakley Plutonite feature which is known as a proprietary synthetic that vitalizes durability and excellent protection to the eyes.
One of the many concerns of athletes is the shield distortion which kind of loses their focus. This equipment eliminates it thanks to its Oakley high definition optics. Another thing to take note about this visor is its ability to block 100% of all UVA, UVB, UVC, and any other blue light up to 400nm that is considered damaging to the eyes.
This eyewear also boasts lens that removes fog and resists scratching. You can’t be distracted with those things so this trait is really a huge advantage. You can even appreciate it more because it keeps its visual clarity on-point, and we’re talking about all the angles even at the sides. Less assured that your peripheral view is clearer. This product comes with one size or 60% gray for you to choose. This item includes the clips and everything you need to attach it to the helmet.
Oakley Football Eyeshield – Blue
This model has the same features as the unit above. But its look is much different because of its youthful color, blue. Its High Definition Optics is also one of the traits that make it a good candidate if you are looking for a visor that completes the qualities that you are looking for.
Better vision at all angles, protection from scratches and fogs, and a high level of protection to your eyes, it is already considered a visor package. Not to mention that it’s also durable like the rest of the models. According to the seller, this blue eye shield is not a mirrored eye shield, it is see-through.
Oakley GSh52-005 Visor – Grey
Like the previous models above, this visor consists of an Oakley plutonite that boasts long-lasting qualities and better eye protection. Its difference lies in the fact that it has a gray color that looks minimalistic and cool to the eyes. In fact, it is made up of 45% gray tint which is at its middle part. You won’t have to think about shield distortion when wearing this gear because it also has high definition optics.
It also reassures you that it can dodge UVA and other harmful blue lights. And even if you’re in the middle of a game, your focus remains because of better visual quality in the field thanks to its unique curvature characteristic. Therefore, if you have sensitive eyes, it is an ideal visor for you.
I found these traits more than satisfying for a $60.00 product. Apart from its promising qualities, these products are easy to install and use. Plus, the fact that many football players make these their number 1 choice of eye-shields, then it pretty much seals the deal.

VICIS inks deal with Oakley to create advanced eye shield for high-tech football helmet
The Vicis Oakley Prizm Shield.
Vicis‘ football helmet just got more high-tech.
The Seattle startup today announced a deal with sunglasses giant Oakley for a new “VICIS EDGE Shield” on its ZERO1 helmet that will be used in games by NFL and NCAA players this upcoming season.
The shield uses Oakley’s Prizm technology that enhances detail and provides better clarity and contrast for football players. It was custom-designed for the ZERO1, which offers a wider field of view than traditional helmets.
The companies call it the “first-ever co-developed football optics system.”
“We saw an opportunity to partner with Oakley to help players elevate their performance via improved optics,” Vicis CEO Dave Marver said in a statement. “Our goal is that athletes wearing a ZERO1 will benefit from industry-leading field of view, enhanced optical clarity and better protection.”

GeekWire last month toured Vicis’ 3,000 square-foot production facility in Seattle that is pumping out hundreds of ZERO1 helmets which are designed to mitigate the forces thought to cause concussions.
Vicis recently garnered national attention after its helmet finished first in the NFL’s 2017 Helmet Laboratory Testing Performance Results, which assessed 33 helmets that could be worn in the upcoming 2017 season and determined which was best at reducing head impact severity experienced by players during games.
Vicis, which spun out of the University of Washington in 2014 and has raised $40 million to date, could play a key role in curbing the concussion problem for not just pro football, but many other sports. Earlier this week, a new study examined the brains of 111 deceased football players — 110 of them were found to have CTE, the disease caused by repeated impact to the head.
90,000 Misting glasses and PNV | Russian Infrared Vision
Hello everyone, dear friends!
Glasses or night optics fog up? How to deal with this? I regularly hear complaints from many players on this topic.
What affects the fogging of glasses?
1. Heat from the face during intense work.
2. Temperature difference.
3. High humidity.
4. Perspiration from breath during the cold season.
5. Individual physical characteristics (profuse sweating).
, etc.
The easiest way to combat fogging is with mesh goggles, but personally I don’t like them especially when used in conjunction with a night vision device. Agree that a transparent picture is much better than a grid! One way or another, all those fogging factors that I wrote about above are transferred to night optics, since there is no natural barrier in the form of a transparent lens that separates the person’s face and the eyepiece of the device. Plus, mesh goggles steal the lion’s share of brightness, which greatly affects the effective work in conditions of limited visibility, even in third-generation night vision devices.
In this article, we will consider the fight against fogging of transparent glasses and night optics.
There are a million tips on the Internet, many of which I tried myself. For several years I have been using the well-known antifog “Op Drops”. It should be noted that he coped well with his task, but in 2017 Vladimir Pyrenkov from the VK store “USASHMOT” opened the anti-fog “Oakley” for me.
I must say right away that the result exceeded all my expectations. For two years of active use, this antifog has passed various tests in a variety of conditions and worked everywhere with a bang. The set includes a cover-cloth and a bottle of liquid with a volume of 10 ml.
The method of application is described on the back of the bottle. But first, I would like to draw your attention to the preparation of the surface of the lens of the glasses:
1. Before using the anti-fog lens, the lens must always be clean. It is enough to rinse it thoroughly under warm water and soap to get rid of dirt and greasy stains. Personally, I wash with my fingers without using sponges and various rags so as not to scratch the surface of the lens. Then we remove moisture using a clean, dry, soft towel or a special cloth for wiping the optics. This process is best done at home.
2. Apply three drops of anti-fog on each side of the inner surface of the lens and, without waiting for drying, rub over the entire area using a cloth from the anti-fog kit. This procedure must be repeated with the outer surface of the lens. At the end of the procedure, no smudges and streaks should remain. This process is best done at home or at the landfill immediately or several hours before use.
I also recommend having a pair of glasses in the kit: day and night. The fact is that day glasses can get very dirty during the day and for comfortable use at night they will have to be washed again and applied antifog. As a rule, the “purity” of this process suffers greatly.
I recommend using the same preparation process on night vision devices. It is necessary to apply antifog on the prepared surface of the protective lenses of the device (sacrificial window, demist shield).
I do not recommend applying antifog to the lenses of the device, since optics do not like frequent contact, which is fraught with unnecessary scratches.
An important point! Lenses must be cleaned of dirt and grease before using anti-fog. I described this process in sufficient detail in my article on the care of PNV optics. I recommend that you familiarize yourself with it.
One way or another, no product in the world will 100% relieve you of fogging, but this product creates maximum protection that works for a very long time.
General recommendations:
1. In case of slight fogging, never, under any circumstances, have your hands in contact with the treated lens surface. It is best to try to stay in motion and promote natural ventilation. In this situation, you need to calm down, restore your rhythm of life after intense work. If you do get sweaty, know that you are not alone and others have similar problems.
2. Strictly follow the lens preparation process described above.
3. Keep your glasses and night optics clean.
4. When using goggles and night vision devices in the cold season, try to exhale the air downward so that the vapor does not settle on the lenses.
5. Try not to lift the night vision device upward, as this may cause fogging of the eyepieces.
6. Use a folded eyepiece cup that fits snugly around the glasses to create a protective barrier. Avoid putting excessive pressure on the glasses so that they do not fit snugly against your face, thereby preventing natural ventilation.
7. Carry a small towel with you to wipe sweat off your face from time to time.
8. Before the night phase, wash your face thoroughly, as salt from sweat in contact with the eyes makes work very difficult.Tears literally flow in a stream.
9. Carry a cloth soaked in anti-fog to wick moisture from the lens of the night vision device during high humidity.
A few words about the internal fogging of night vision devices.
Reasons:
1. Lack of nitrogen filling, which must be renewed at least once a year.
2. The assembly of the night vision device was carried out in a humid room.
3. The body of the night vision device is leaking.
Thank you for your attention!

Best Climbing Sunglasses
If you are interested in a variety of releases and follow the news in the world of eyewear, then you probably heard that the French company Julbo, in honor of its 125th anniversary, has released a number of new color variations of one of their best Vermonter models.
This is far from the newest model, but, nevertheless, it is still very popular. It got me thinking, what is the story behind these goggles, and behind mountaineering goggles in general? And what is responsible for the increased interest in this old-school model? The Vermonter glasses are by no means the most popular Julbo range – in fact, they look very vintage compared to the other glasses in this roundup. But despite this, they received excellent coverage and therefore almost completely correspond to the newest and most technologically advanced equipment.
In an attempt to get answers to all of the above questions, I plunged headlong into the world of mountaineering glasses. I looked at the history of these goggles, the scientific information behind it, and picked out the very best mountaineering sunglasses available on the market right now.
Electric Road Glacier
For those who love style but want something more versatile, Electric sunglasses are a very interesting choice. The glasses are equipped with two types of detachable eyecups – one made of leather, the other made of perforated steel, and are supplied with a cord, carrying bag and adjustable temples.Ideal for walking.
Julbo Vermont Classic
This 1950s classic was originally marketed to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the French company Julbo. But I think these glasses will stay on the shelves for a long time. Despite being a vintage model, these glasses boast modern, high quality lenses.
Vuarnet Glacier 1957
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Vuarnet has released a special limited edition of their legendary 1957 Glaciers. There are only 600 of these mountaineering sunglasses. Each piece is equipped with removable perforated leather eyecups and Category 3 lenses that come in blue, green or orange.
Northern Lights NL7
Julbo sits firmly in the tops of retro hiking eyewear manufacturers. Northern Light is the exact opposite. They are positioned more as a fashion accessory, these glasses are able to provide you with the proper protection from the sun in the mountains. With a classic round frame and high quality Category 3 Aurora CR39 lenses, these are incredibly cool classic sunglasses.
Dragon Allegiance Mountaineerx
These sunglasses from a Californian eyewear brand offer superior sun protection combined with a shock-resistant frame and customizable fit. Leather eyecups attach easily to the top and bottom of the frame, while removable temples provide a secure and comfortable fit. These glasses will withstand any test, because the material used in their creation is 5-6 times more impact-resistant than polycarbonate, which is usually used in most sunglasses. Category 4 lenses are available in three shades: Red Ionized, Super Silver, and Dark Copper.

Smart glasses – Smartglasses – xcv.wiki
Wearable computers that can be used in place of regular glasses
This article is about wearable computers. For window glass with variable opacity, see Smart glass. For the Xbox Management app, see Xbox SmartGlass.
The man wears a 1998 eyecup, digital glass for the eyes.
Smartglasses or Smartglasses are wearable computer glasses that add information together or to what the wearer sees.Alternatively, smart glasses are sometimes referred to as wearable computer glasses that can change their optical properties during use. Smart sunglasses, which are programmed to change shade electronically, are an example of the latter type of smart glasses.
Overlaying information on the field of view is achieved using an optical head-up display (OHMD) or built-in wireless glasses with a transparent head-up display (HUD) or augmented reality overlay (AR).These systems have the ability to reflect projected digital images and also allow the user to see through or see better through them. While early models can perform basic tasks such as serving as an external display for a remote system, as with smart glasses using cellular technology or Wi-Fi, modern smart glasses are actually wearable computers that can run stand-alone mobile apps. … Some of them are speakerphone and can communicate with the Internet using natural language voice commands, while others use touch buttons.
Like other computers, smart glasses can collect information from internal or external sensors. It can monitor or receive data from other instruments or computers. It can support wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. A small number of models run a mobile operating system and function as portable media players to send audio and video files to the user via a Bluetooth or WiFi headset. Some models of smart glasses also have the ability to keep a life log and track activity.
Smartglasses can also have smartphone functionality. Some of them have activity tracking features (also known as “ fitness trackers ”) like some GPS watches.
Features & Applications
As with other life logging and activity tracking devices, the GPS tracker and digital camera of some smart glasses can be used to record historical data. For example, after completing a workout, the data can be downloaded to a computer or online to create an exercise log for analysis. Some smartwatches can serve as full-fledged GPS navigation devices, displaying maps and current coordinates. Users can “tag” their current location and then edit the name and coordinates of the entry to navigate to those new coordinates.
Although some models of smart glasses produced in the 21st century are fully functional as standalone products, most manufacturers recommend or even require consumers to purchase mobile phones with the same operating system so that the two devices can be synced for additional and advanced functions.Smart glasses can work as an extension to display on the windshield (HUD) or remotely control the phone and alert the user of communication data such as calls, SMS messages, emails and calendar invitations.
Security Applications
Smart glasses could be used as a body camera. In 2018, Chinese police in Zhengzhou and Beijing used smart glasses to take photographs that are compared to a government database using facial recognition to identify suspects, obtain addresses, and track people outside their home areas.
Health applications
Several proofs of concept for Google Glasses have been proposed in healthcare. In July 2013, Lucien Engelin began researching the use and impact of Google Glass in healthcare. Engelen, who works at Singularity University and in Europe at Radbaud University Medical Center, participates in the Glass Explorer program.
The main findings of Engeleny in the study included:
- Image and video quality can be used for medical education, inquiries, and remote consultations. For most surgical procedures, the camera must be tilted at different angles.
- Teleconsultation possible – depending on available bandwidth – during operational procedures.
- A stabilizer should be added to the video function to prevent intermittent transmission when the surgeon looks at screens or colleagues.
- Battery life can be easily extended with an external battery.
- Controlling the device and / or programs from another device is necessary for some functions due to the sterile environment.
- Text-to-Speech (Take Note in Evernote) showed a 60 percent correction factor without adding a medical thesaurus.
- The protocol or checklist displayed on the Google Glass screen may be helpful during procedures.
Dr. Phil Haslam and Dr. Sebastian Mafeld demonstrate the first concept of Google Glass in the field of interventional radiology. They demonstrated how the Google Glass concept can help with liver biopsy and fistulaplasty, and the couple said Google Glass could improve patient safety, operator comfort and the effectiveness of interventional radiology procedures. In June 2013, surgeon Dr. Raphael Grossmann was the first person to integrate Google Glass into the operating room when he wore the device during a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) procedure. In August 2013, Google Glass was also used at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. Surgeon Dr. Christopher Cading used Google Glass to consult with a colleague in remote Columbus, Ohio. A group of Ohio State University College of Medicine students also watched their laptop computers work. After the procedure, Kaeding said: “To be honest, when we got into the operation, I often forgot that the device was there. It just felt intuitive and flawlessly appropriate. ”
On November 16, 2013 in Santiago de Chile, a team of maxillofacial specialists led by Dr. Antonio Marino performed the first orthognathic surgery using Google Glass in Latin America, interacting with them and working with simultaneous 3D navigation. The surgical team was interviewed by ADN radio station and LUN newspaper. In January 2014, Indian orthopedic surgeon Selena G. Pareh performed Google Glass foot and ankle surgery in Jaipur, which was broadcast live on the Google website over the Internet. The operation was carried out during a three-day annual Indo-American conference attended by a team of US experts and hosted by Ashish Sharma. Sharma said Google Glass allows you to look at X-rays or MRIs without taking your eyes off the patient and allows the doctor to communicate with the patient’s family or friends during the procedure.
Baby Eve with Georgia for Breastfeeding Support Project
In Australia, in January 2014, Melbourne-based technology startup Small World Social, in collaboration with the Australian Breastfeeding Association, created the first Google Glass hands-free breastfeeding app for new mothers. The app, called the Google Glass Breastfeeding Trial App, allows mothers to breastfeed their baby by reviewing instructions on common breastfeeding issues (latching, posture, etc.)Or call a breastfeeding consultant through a secure Google Hangout who can view the issue through the Google Glass Camera. The trial was successfully completed in Melbourne in April 2014 and 100% of the participants were breastfeeding confidently.
Display types
Various methods exist for hexamethyldisilazano end-to-end. Most of these methods can be divided into two main families: based on a “curved mirror” (or curved combiner) and based on a “waveguide” or “light guide”.The mirror technique has been used in EyeTaps, Meta in their Meta 1, Vuzix in their Star 1200 product, Olympus and Laster Technologies.
Various waveguide techniques have existed for some time. These techniques include diffractive optics, holographic optics, polarized optics, reflective optics, and projection:
- Diffractive waveguide – tilted grating elements (nanometer 10E-9). Nokia technology is now licensed to Vuzix.
- Holographic Waveguide – 3 holographic optical elements (HOE) clamped together (RGB). Used by Sony and Konica Minolta.
- Reflective waveguide – thick fiber with one semi-reflective mirror. This method is used by Epson in its Moverio product.
- Virtual Retina Display (VRD) – also known as Retinal Scan Display (RSD) or Retinal Projector (RP), is a display technology that displays a bitmap (such as a TV) directly onto the retina of the eye, developed by MicroVision, Inc….
Technical illusions castAR uses a different technique with transparent glass. The glasses have a projector, and the image is returned to the eye using a reflective surface.
Smart Sunglasses
Smart sunglasses, which can change their light filtering properties during operation, usually use liquid crystal technology. When the lighting conditions change, such as when the user goes outside, the luminance ratio also changes and can cause unwanted visual impairment. An attractive solution to overcome this problem is to include dimming filters in smart sunglasses that control the amount of ambient light entering the eyes. An innovative liquid crystal component for use in smart sunglasses lenses is PolarView from LC-Tec. PolarView offers analog dimming control, with the dim level being controlled by the applied drive voltage.
Another type of smart sunglasses uses Adaptive Polarization Filtering (ADF).ADF type smart sunglasses can change their polarization filtering characteristics during use. For example, ADF type smart sunglasses can switch from horizontal polarization filtering to vertical polarization filtering at the touch of a button.
The lenses of smart sunglasses can be made of multiple adaptive cells, so different parts of the lenses can have different optical properties. For example, the top of a lens can be electronically configured to have different polarizing filter characteristics and a different opacity than the bottom of the lens.
Human Machine Interface (HCI) Control Input
Head-up displays are not intended to be used as workstations, and traditional input devices such as keyboard and mouse do not support the concept of smart glasses. Instead, HCI control input should be methods that enable mobility and / or hands-free use are good candidates, for example:

Market structure
The analyst firm IHS estimates that shipments of smart glasses could grow from 50,000 units in 2012 to 6.6 million units in 2016.According to a Forrester Research survey of more than 4,600 American adults, about 12 percent of respondents would like to wear Google Glass or other similar devices if they offer a service that piques their interest. BI Intelligence from Business Insider expects Google Glass to have annual sales of 21 million units by 2018. Samsung and Microsoft are expected to develop their own version of Google Glass within six months at prices ranging from $ 200 to $ 500.Samsung reportedly bought the lenses from Israel-based Lumus. Another source says Microsoft is in talks with Vuzix. In 2006, Apple filed a patent for its own HMD device. In July 2013, APX Labs founder and CEO Brian Ballard stated that he knows 25 to 30 hardware manufacturers who are working on their own versions of smart glasses, some of which APX works with.
In fact, in 2016, only about 150,000 AR glasses were shipped worldwide in 2016, despite the strong opinion of leading technology company executives that AR is entering our lives. This points to some serious technical limitations that prevent OEMs from offering a product that balances functionality and customers’ desire not to wear a massive face / head unit on a daily basis. The solution could be to transfer battery, processing power, and connectivity from the frame of AR glasses to an external wired device such as a smart necklace. This could allow for display-only AR glasses – lightweight, cheap and stylish.
Public reception for commercial use
Critical Receive
In November 2012, Google Glass was voted one of the “Best Inventions of 2012” by Time Magazine, along with inventions such as the Curiosity rover. After a visit by Google Chairman Eric Schmidt to Cambridge University in February 2013, Wolfson College professor John Naughton praised Google Glass and compared it to the achievements of hardware and networking pioneer Douglas Engelbart.Naughton wrote that Engelbart believed that machines “should do what machines do best, thereby empowering people to do what they do best.” Lisa A. Goldstein, a freelance journalist who was born deaf, tested the product on behalf of people with disabilities and published a review on August 6, 2013. In his review, Goldstein states that Google Glass does not support hearing aids and is not suitable for people who cannot understand speech.Goldstein also explained the limited customer support options, as telephone contact was her only means of communication.
In December 2013, David Datuna became the first artist to include Google Glass in a contemporary work of art. The work debuted at a private event at The New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida, USA, and was relocated to the Miami Design District for a public debut. More than 1,500 people used Google Glass to see Datong’s American flag from his Billions Viewpoint series.
Following public backlash, retail sales of Google Glass ceased in January 2015 and the company focused on business customers in 2017.
Privacy issues
EyeTap’s functionality and minimalist appearance have been compared to Steve Mann’s EyeTap, also known as “glass” or “Digital Eye Glass”, although Google Glass is “Generation-1 Glass” compared to EyeTap, which is “Glass Generation-4”.Both devices affect both privacy and secrecy by introducing two-way surveillance and surveillance, Mann said. Various sources have raised concerns about violating privacy, etiquette and ethics of using the device in public places and recording people without their permission. There is a controversy that Google Glass will violate privacy rights due to security issues and other reasons.
Privacy advocates are concerned that people wearing such glasses may identify strangers in public with facial recognition or secretly record and broadcast private conversations.Several companies in the United States have posted signs against Google Glass in their factories. In July 2013, prior to the official release of the product, Stephen Balaban, co-founder of software company Lambda Labs, bypassed Google’s facial recognition app blocking by creating his own operating system, not approved by Google. Balaban then installed face scan glassware, which creates a summary of the common traits of the scanned person and the owner of the glass, such as mutual friends and interests. In addition, Michael DiGiovanni created Winky, a program that allows a Google Glass user to take pictures by winking, and Mark Rogers, chief security researcher at Lookout, discovered that Glass can be captured by tricking the user. take a picture of a malicious QR code.
Other concerns were expressed regarding the legality of Google Glass in a number of countries, especially in Russia, Ukraine and other post-Soviet countries. In February 2013, a Google+ user noticed legal problems with Google Glass and posted information about the problems in the Google Glass community, stating that using the device may be illegal under current legislation in Russia and Ukraine, which prohibits the use of spy gadgets that can record video , audio or take photos discreetly.Concerns have also been raised about the privacy and safety of Google Glass users in the event of theft or loss of the device. This issue was raised by a committee of the US Congress. As part of its response to the government committee, Google said in early July that it was working on a locking system and raising user awareness about the possibility of remotely resetting Google Glass settings via a web interface in case of loss. Several institutions banned the use of Google Glass prior to publishing it to the general public, citing concerns about potential privacy breaches.Other establishments, such as Las Vegas casinos, have banned Google Glass, citing their desire to comply with Nevada law and general game rules that prohibit the use of recording devices near playgrounds.
Security Considerations
Concerns have also been raised about driving while wearing the device. On July 31, 2013, it was reported that driving using Google Glass would likely be banned in the UK, which would be considered reckless driving, which is an offense with a fixed fine following a decision by the Department of Transportation. In the United States, West Virginia State Representative Gary G. Howell amended state law in March 2013 to prohibit sending text messages while driving, which would include a ban on “the use of a wearable computer with a display on the head.” Howell said in an interview, “First of all, this is a security issue, it [the glass headset] can project text or video into your field of vision. I think there is a lot of potential for distraction. ”
In October 2013, a California driver was fined for “driving with a monitor visible to the driver (Google Glass)” after being stopped for speeding by a San Diego police officer. The driver was reportedly the first to receive a driving ticket using Google Glass. Although the judge noted that “Google Glass fell under the ‘action and intent’ of the driving ban with a monitor,” the case was dropped due to lack of evidence that the device was present at the time.
Functionality considerations
Today, most augmented reality devices look bulky, and applications such as navigation, real-time travel guides and recording can drain smart glasses’ batteries in about 1-4 hours.Battery life can be extended by using low power display systems (as is the case with the Vaunt) by wearing the battery elsewhere on the body (such as on a waist belt or smart companion necklace).

90,000 Oakley Ski & Snowboard Helmets – Powder. Blog
Meet the first Oakley ski helmets!
There is no longer any difference on the market between ski and snowboard helmets. The only exceptions are ski helmets for competitions, in which there is protection against goal blows on the track. Otherwise, there is no technological difference, it’s just marketing.
Companies that have already realized that the separation of helmets (and masks) is complete nonsense, coined the term snow, which means that helmets are suitable for both skiers and boarders.I write “ski” and “snowboard” only because the term snow has not caught on (and is unlikely to take root in the near future) in Russia, and only the words “ski” and “snowboard” separate these items from the ocean of other sports helmets.
Oakley Ski & Snowboard Helmets – MOD5 & MOD3
MOD5 and MOD3 are actually two lines of helmets. Each has two models: Factory Pilot Snow and just Snow. The difference between the models within the line is $ 10 and the graphics are otherwise identical.
Whereas the difference between the series MOD5 and MOD3 is more significant.
First, the MOD5 uses a combination of helmet shell technologies – ABS front, In-Mold back. Due to this, it was possible to increase head protection and reduce the weight of the helmet. In MOD3 it is produced only with In-Mold application.
In-Mold
The inner layer of the helmet – expanded polystyrene (EPS foam) – is soldered to the outer, relatively thin shell of the helmet from the inside. This alloy reduces the effect of “bouncing” the head on impact, absorbing its energy. The outer shell breaks when hit hard.
ABS or Hard Shell
Here the outer shell – ABC-plastic (ABS Shell) – is thicker and stronger than in the previous case. On impact, the “rebound” effect is higher than in the In-mold construction, which reduces the absorbing properties of the helmet and therefore the protection of the head. The technology is used in inexpensive helmets. The outer shell breaks when hit hard.
If you want to know more about the technologies for the production of helmets, read my article Ski helmets: everything you need to know when choosing.
The second difference is that the MOD3 lacks a slider that can be used to regulate helmet ventilation. I will write about this below.
Third – external, MOD3 looks simpler, compare in the gallery at the end of the article.
Fourth – MOD3 is $ 60 cheaper, prices are given in the Cost section.
Oakley Helmet Technology
Next, we will talk about the characteristics that are present in both lines.
Oakley has rolled out its MBS (Modular Brim System) visor technology to the world and seems to be very proud of it. Each helmet comes with two removable visors, which are designed to exactly fit the helmet to any manufacturer’s mask, and he has not one or two of them.
This is how it works:
This is what the removable visors look like:
The LG-Brim visor is designed for large models of ski masks (for large faces or with an extended view):
- Air Brake XL
- Flight Deck XM
- Flight Deck
- Air Wave
- Canopy
- Line Miner
- O2 XL
SM-Brim – for smaller masks:
- A Frame 2.0
- O2 XS
- O2 SM
- Crowbar
Thus, any helmet will match any manufacturer’s mask, and this is another way to keep the client from going to a competitor. It turned out gracefully.
Helmets are reinforced only in the right places
The manufacturer only reinforced those areas that are actually exposed to falls and collisions:
Integrated ventilation
Another reason to buy an Oakley helmet-mask kit is the integrated ventilation. The vents of both the mask and helmet are precisely aligned for consistent airflow. This results in better extraction of warm air from the mask. The bottom line is that the filters fog up less, the visibility is better, and the riding pleasure is longer.
See how beautiful it looks on video:
No matter how perfectly tuned the ventilation flows are, it is still passive hood – it does not help very much with active sweating, in conditions of increased “dampness” of the resort (Krasnaya Polyana) or when the spring warms up.If you want to ride in “dry” masks, choose models with active ventilation systems – with heated “windshield” or forced ventilation. I described them in my article Ski masks don’t sweat anymore.
BOA Technology in Oakley
Helmets
Fitted helmet with BOA technology. Rotation of the head (on the back side) makes a uniform fit of the helmet on the head of any shape and size, but in its size group – all models of Oakley helmets are divided into three such groups:
If anyone does not know, BOA technology operates as follows:
MIPS Technology in Oakley
Helmets
At the beginning of 2000, Swedish scientists noticed that we hit our heads not only at right angles, but also tangentially. And with such blows, the gray matter of a person strives to rotate relative to the cranium, and this is fraught with serious injuries. In such situations, the protection of conventional helmets is ineffective.
To close this gap, the Swedes have developed the MIPS technology – the helmet consists of two layers that move freely relative to each other. See how MIPS technology works:
Fidlock technology in belt buckles
Fastening and unfastening the belt is very convenient, even with ski gloves, thanks to the advanced magnetic Fidlock fasteners. Here’s how they work:
The summary table below shows all the similarities and differences in the technical equipment of the MOD5 and MOD3 helmets (eng.):

Cost of Oakley helmets on the manufacturer’s website:
- Oakley MOD5 Factory Pilot Snow – $ 210
- Oakley MOD5 Snow – $ 200
- Oakley MOD3 Factory Pilot Snow – $ 150
- Oakley MOD3 Snow – $ 140
True, the company delivers so far only in the United States, so we will wait for them to appear in our stores.
Conclusion
Now you know that the foremost sports optician Oakley has released its first ski helmets. And in my opinion, they turned out, first of all, stylish. The presence of a number of technologies that were used in production – BOA, MIPS, Fidlock – puts them in the class of high-quality helmets, but this does not make them unique – helmets with similar bells and whistles have been on the market for a long time. Therefore, the emphasis was, as you would expect, on outstanding design.
Friends, recently I wrote you a letter (I am addressing my subscribers) and asked to answer the only question – “What kind of materials would you like to see on the LETITSNOW website.RU? ” Many asked to write more about equipment. In response, I made the following material.
We emerge …, no, one second …

90,000 5 Best American Football Peaks Compared & Reviewed
It’s my great pleasure to write these articles for my readers, you. I do not accept any fees for writing reviews, my opinion on the products is mine, but if you find my recommendations helpful and end up buying something from one of the links, I might get a commission for that.more info
In my article on American football equipment, I explained exactly what this sport entails and what protective equipment is needed to practice this sport.
In this article, I’ll focus on a visor that you can add to your helmet for added protection. A visor, also called an “eyecup” or “visor”, matches your face mask, which in turn is part of your helmet.
Simply put, a visor is simply a curved piece of plastic that can be attached to a mask to protect your eyes.
American football helmets are already protective by themselves, but adding a visor to your gear will give you even more of the benefits of your helmet.
Finding a suitable visor is not always easy, because these days there is a very large selection. It depends on a number of things, which one is most appropriate for your situation.
To make it a little easier for you, I’ve compiled a top five for you that can help you choose your next visor.
My personal favorite visor is the Under Armor Football Clear Visor. It may be the most expensive on the list, but you have something too. It is a great quality with a stylish look. It fits any helmet and is easy to install.
Visor is lighter than other competing brands and is made of durable polycarbonate. In addition, it has anti-fog, anti-reflective and anti-reflective coatings.
The visor can even improve your field of vision and will last a long time. You will receive multiple logo stickers in different colors as the icing on the cake.
Besides the Under Armor visor, there are a number of interesting visors that I would like to introduce to you. In the table below you will find my top five.
Why use a visor / visor?
There is no getting away from this: football is a tough sport. Therefore, in this sport, we are talking about the maximum protection of yourself.
In the same way as gloves and mouthguards, visors are used to provide additional protection to the American football player.
The visor protects the players’ eyes from foreign objects that could potentially enter the eyes or nose.
Of course, the visor is not an obligatory part of football equipment, but many athletes still prefer to wear it.
Without a visor, your eyes can be injured, for example, if an opponent (accidentally) pokes their fingers in your eyes or hits you in the face.
And especially if you use contact lenses, a visor can be a must, so you never have to worry about losing your lenses while playing.
Visors are used not only to protect against foreign objects (eg dirt, fingers) from the outside, but also for other purposes.
To prevent the enemy from predicting the player’s movements by looking into his eyes.
For protection from ultraviolet rays that can damage your eyes and make it difficult to see the ball or understand where you are throwing.
Because they look really cool and have a deterrent factor. If you enjoy intimidation, check out the tinted visors. This will scare your opponent off if he cannot see your eyes through the visor.
What do you look for when choosing a visor for American football?
Before buying a visor, you need to be well versed in the product.
Visors are an optional accessory in American football and of course not required. They are durable and can provide extra sun protection as well as protect your eyes from outside objects.
In addition, the enemy cannot read you in the eye, making it difficult to predict your movements.
Below you will find a number of important factors to consider when choosing the perfect football visor.
Check the rules first
Before you even buy a visor, you need to know the rules of the league you intend to play in.
Ask yourself the following question: Is a visor allowed in the league in which I play or intend to play?
In America, for example, the National Federation of Public High School Associations and all NCAAs have banned the use of tinted visors.
This is because these visors prevent medical personnel from seeing the player’s eyes or detecting injury or possibly even blackout.
However, this rule applies to tinted visors only at the amateur level. On a professional level, every athlete can of course wear whatever he wants when it comes to visors.
A tinted face mask can also sometimes make it difficult for the player to see. You need to try and find out what works best for you.
Purpose
The most common reason for buying a visor is to block out sunlight and other harmful light sources.
Some athletes use it to keep dirt out of the eyes or pricks of opponents.
Fit
Fit is very important because not all visors are compatible with every helmet. So choose a visor that fits easily over your helmet.
Also, you should be aware that not only are all visors allowed for official matches, so it is wise to check with vendors, your coaches or your league before choosing one.
Also check if the visor you have in mind matches your mask and helmet.
Look straight through the visor and check your peripheral vision: can you see the sides well without turning your head to the left or right?
Type
In general, two types of canopies are distinguished, namely transparent / transparent and tinted canopy.
Although there are various types of visors available on the market, a transparent visor is usually chosen for the (primary) purpose of eye protection.
The transparent visors are primarily intended to protect the eyes from damage. They can be shockproof and made of anti-fog / anti-glare material.
In addition to the transparent visor, there is also a tinted version.
Tinted visors protect the eyes from direct sunlight and are often used for an intimidating look. However, tinted visors are banned in most amateur leagues.
Because tinted visors are often considered very durable, many athletes still buy them to use during training, for example.
lens
This aspect is very important because it directly affects your vision when you play. Choose a lens with a lens that won’t restrict your vision, such as an anti-reflective visor, to help you stay focused and focused.
Also, when it comes to lens, there are different levels of visibility. When you find a visor that you like, it is important to look through it and see your field of view.
The fact is that your entire field of view is clearly visible without the need to turn your head to the left or right.
Remember: your sight is one of your strongest weapons on the grid!
Ease of installation
This may seem basic to some, but for novice buyers installing such a visor can sometimes be a problem.
Sometimes purchases are not accompanied by instructions or the necessary tools. So keep that in mind.
Prijs
As with other high-value products you buy, it’s always wise to stick to budget when looking for a visor. Thus, you limit your options, which greatly simplifies and speeds up the choice.
However, it is important not to keep the budget too small; you need to buy a good quality visor. On the other hand, keeping a budget too high is also unnecessary.
Mounting mechanism
There are canopies with a mechanism for attaching 2 and 3 clamps. The two-clip attachment fits most helmets, while the three-clip attachment is only suitable for helmets with three attachment points.
If you find a visor with three clips, you should check in advance if your helmet is suitable for this type of visor.
I only included 2 clip-on visors in this manual, as they are the most popular and are generally much easier to install.
The best visors for your American football helmet
Now that you know almost everything about visors, I will give you all the details about the best visors on the market today. Starting at my number 1, the Under Armor football visor.

While Under Armor is relatively new to the American football market compared to other reputable brands, some would argue that it is one of the the best brands to date.
With their quality products and reasonable prices, they are a great service to many athletes.
The Under Armor Clear Visor is an excellent quality standard visor with a defined look.
Because this visor is versatile, you don’t have to worry about whether the visor will fit on your helmet or not; the fit will be perfect.
Quick release clamps greatly simplify installation; all you have to do is align the visor on the face mask correctly and then tighten the clamps.
No tools are required for installation, which means you can easily remove the clamps.
The Under Armor visor is made of lightweight and durable polycarbonate to provide optimal protection on the playing field.
It is 10% lighter than other competing brands and you can see it. The visor will not affect your balance and you can easily fly over the field.
With this visor you will be additionally protected without suffering from excess weight.
The product is also anti-fog and anti-scratch, so your view will not be disturbed by any damage caused during use, so you are buying a durable visor.
Finally, the visor reduces glare from the sun and stadium lights.
The visor is made of “lens” material, which means it can improve the field of view. The brand uses ArmourSight technology, which guarantees the reliability and durability of the visors.
In terms of design, the UA visor has two logos on top (one on each side) and a logo on each of the latches.
In addition, the visor comes with different colored logo stickers, so you can match the visor to your team’s colors and personalize it with the number on the jersey.
[Warning: Some customers report that they did not receive a sticker].
A visor should last at least one or two seasons, even in the case of the most devoted player.
However, keep in mind that this visor is not the best option for aggressive applications and situations, and therefore should not be used if you are playing super competitive football.
Also, you should know that this visor is the most expensive on the list, but you will not regret your choice.

Probably the first thing you will notice about this product is the wonderful color pattern. The visor has also received many positive reviews.
Installation with 2 clips will simplify the installation and removal of this visor, and its perfect fit is guaranteed after installation. The product is durable enough to withstand the toughest battles on the field.
The universal fit makes this visor suitable for both youth and adult helmets.
Another key feature of this optical polycarbonate visor is a fog, shock and scratch resistant coating that also effectively blocks blue light and the harshest UV rays harmful to the eyes.
So you don’t have to worry about your vision and you can focus 100% on what’s happening on the field. You are also protected from annoying glare and will not be blinded by the sun.

Oakley is a name that is trusted by many people around the world. It’s the same with the American football industry.
The brand is known for producing great eyewear, so buying a visor from this brand could be the perfect long-term investment for you.
This Oakley visor is highly recommended. In addition to high ratings, it has excellent durability thanks to the use of a proprietary synthetic material called plutonite.
You don’t need to worry about breakage of this product. It is made of strong and durable material and therefore offers a high degree of protection.
The visor blocks 100% of all UV light across the entire spectrum (UVA, UVB and UVC rays) while maintaining excellent clarity and visibility from all directions.
Plus, Oakley technology applied to the visor ensures your vision remains clear so you can play and perform without distraction.
With this visor, your eyes and skin are optimally protected. Another impressive aspect is the AFR lens coating, which makes the visor very scratch and fog resistant.
What Oakley has done here is to try every possible means to achieve maximum optical clarity. The shape of the visor is much more curved vertically than most other options on the market.
As a result, you can see more clearly from any angle, and the mask is much stronger because objects simply bounce off of it.
If you are looking for one of the coolest visors, Oakley is definitely your option.
The product is extremely durable and Oakley visors eliminate any distortion that often occurs with other polycarbonate visors.
However, some will find it difficult to follow the Oakley installation instructions, so it will take a little time to install the visor.
Besides, this is not a cheap visor, but certainly not the most expensive one. Its high quality scratch-resistant coating and transparency make it an eye-catcher. You will really get value for money with this visor.
For example, choosing between the EliteTek Prizm and the Oakley Shield is a matter of personal preference, as they are roughly in the same price range.
Prizm has 60% light transmission, which means it transmits less light than the transparent version of the Oakley Shield.
If you regularly play or exercise at night, this will not be as useful as visors that do not let in much light can make it difficult to see in the dark.
However, if you live in a place with a lot of sun and are tired of being blind from sunlight, a visor with lower light transmittance (such as one of the gray Oakley visors with 20%, 45% or 60% transmittance) or EliteTek Prizm. above is probably your best bet

Starting from the build, the Nike Max is completely made of polycarbonate. The lens uses optical technology, which means you can clearly see the field from all angles.
With beveled edges, distortion and glare won’t bother you. You will also notice that the assembly is simple.
Shock-absorbing technology gives you the best protection, whether you are taking a hit or taking it. The visor is black and actually looks intimidating.
Finally, this is one of the few visors that has cool stickers for you to completely personalize your product.
For example, a visor can be the same as a visor of the rest of the shape.
Nike is a large brand that has long been popular in the football world. If you are a Nike team and would like to get the most out of this fantastic brand, this could be the perfect visor for your helmet.
The visor fits most football helmets. This is a little expensive and can get scratched over time. Overall, the visor is very salable.

best bike helmet of 2020: protect your head on the road and in the city
When it comes to cycling, it is imperative to have the best bike helmet. Safety is paramount, regardless of the season and traffic volume.Putting on an ultra-flattering light and setting your headlights to the least annoying setting before you hit the road is a given, but bike helmets are the real king of road safety, and whether you’re driving to work or racing on weekends, having the Right One can save your life.
In the UK, it is not legally required to wear a bicycle helmet on the road when cycling, but the risk of injury can be reduced by up to 70% by wearing it. There are many attractively designed helmets from prestigious brands these days, so you don’t have to feel too big while protecting yourself.Even though the roads are relatively empty right now, a helmet is still a sensible precaution.
How to Buy the Best Bike Helmet for You
First, the basics : Most road helmets are single use. By “used” we mean participation in one encounter. You don’t have to buy a new helmet every time you drive; that would be silly. But if he protects you from the accident, he actually gave his life to save yours and needs to be thrown away.
More advanced / modern helmets use the Multi-Directional Impact System (or MIPS). It offers even better protection than a standard helmet by resisting the twisting effect when hitting at specific angles. They are generally more expensive, but not nearly as expensive as buying a new head.
If you cycle frequently, you will need a helmet that is aerodynamic for both speed and ventilation. Most helmets are not waterproof, but they do provide at least some protection from the rain, cold, and wind.
Road helmets are also becoming more intelligent. with features like Bluetooth connectivity and LED lights for safe cycling at night, but you can always just attach the flashlight to your dumb helmet. Some helmets also have a fold-down, usually detachable visor to protect your eyes and / or to keep you looking amazing.
Most cycling helmets are suitable for men and women, but you must either try on a helmet to fit in the store, or be prepared to return and replace the wrong helmet in time if you order online. This is because the stated head diameters of many helmet manufacturers for each helmet size appear to have been achieved through the use of a random number generator. If you like to wear a cap under your helmet, this is especially necessary.
After that, everything is simple. Most helmets come in a variety of vibrant colors that improve visibility and look good. We’ve compiled a list of 9 of the best helmets for the different needs of cyclists, including a variety of colors and patterns to suit an individual style.

The Oakley ARO5 is a good example of a very decent MiPS-enabled road bike helmet that is highly functional yet completely affordable.Of course, you can buy an ARO5 at Oakley for up to twice as much as anywhere else, no matter what your boat is sailing. However, if you’re smart enough to reach out to third-party retailers, you can save money on your new bike helmet.
Don’t get me wrong: the Oakley ARO5 may be affordable, but by no means cheap. Sure, Oakley may be better known for its sunglasses, but the Californian company may manufacture other types of sports equipment such as bicycle helmets.
The Oakley ARO5 is as comfortable as it is safe and features a 360-degree BOA attachment system and MiPS brain protection system. The first will help you find the optimal fit, which is neither too loose nor too tight, by tightening the entire frame, and not just part of it at the back of the head. The forehead pad not only makes the ARO5 more comfortable to wear, but also has a silver lining to, as Oakley put it, “to keep bacteria from growing on the fabric.”
I’m sure everyone is familiar with MiPS technology, but just to reiterate, the MIPS brain protection system is a low-friction layer integrated into the helmet designed to reduce rotational motion transmitted to the brain during impact.Show your brain some love with the Oakley ARO5.
And because Oakley is a sunglasses manufacturer, the ARO5 is equipped with a “glasses dock,” which means you can store your glasses on your helmet when not in use. Just pop them into your helmet and forget about them when you pedal. The ARO5 also comes with a travel bag and Oakley decal. You will definitely get your money here.

The Smith Trace helmet features the Koroyd, an ultra-light ventilation and protection system that completely encloses the helmet. It looks like a bunch of straws cut into shorter pieces and glued together in a honeycomb shape under the outer shell of the helmet.
However, thanks to these small plastic tubes, Smith Trace provides exceptional ventilation not only for your head, but also for your cycling sunglasses, which can be stored in a variety of ways on top of the helmet. Long range fogging will not be a problem for Trace.
The focus on eyewear is not surprising for Smith, one of the most renowned manufacturers of cycling and safety eyewear. But the company also designs exceptional headwear, and Trace is a great example of what Smith has to offer when it comes to cycling head protection.
The Smith Trace is easily adjusted with the Vaporfit rotary switch on the back of the helmet, and the XT2 antibacterial liner is as skin-friendly as a bike helmet liner. Comfort levels are further enhanced by 18 vents around the outer shell of the helmet, which circulate air around the skull, removing excess heat and keeping the head cool.
On the other hand, the Smith Trace bike helmet looks a bit bulky when viewed from the front and is quite expensive, but in our opinion it is well worth the money for people looking for an uncompromising helmet.

POC customers are like Volvo in the world of helmets: Swedish, known and respected for its impeccable safety standards and investment in new technology, but once shunned due to the fact that its products were a little, shall we say, “unflattering” …
But as with Volvo, times have changed. POC now offers a variety of seriously safe helmets that look great too, and the award-winning Octal is the epitome of that effort.
Octal weighs less than 200g in average size, but outperforms most other road bike competitions as it provides extra coverage and protection for the temples and nape, while the Styrofoam liner is strategically thicker in the most vulnerable spots….
On top of that, there’s all the ventilation a sweaty head can crave, and the aerodynamic shape makes it as good on racing as it is on morning rides.
If you want absolute safety – sorry for the poor choice of words – the POC is now also a version of Octal with its Multiple Impact Protection System (MIPS), which is designed to withstand the potentially catastrophic torsional forces on your canopy in the event of a prang.

There is far less racing-day DNA in the guise of the Union than in a POC helmet – no surprise; Bern was born as a skater brand. As such, it’s perfect for urban cyclists who don’t want to be counted as MAMIL or, uh, MAWIL if it’s the female version.
The relatively low profile – okay, it’s a little bulging like Bern’s usual – and the light weight means it’s still aerodynamic enough not to hold you back.
More importantly, it looks great in our opinion. The removable snap-on visor works like a visor on your bike hat, flipping downward to add a little sun protection or just to keep you cool. It also absorbs sweat from the forehead well, but is easier to turn over.
As with the POC, a Bern Union version for MIPS is also available. Thanks to its greater resistance to rotational forces, it will be of interest to SUVs and anyone who prefers the highest possible insurance against traumatic brain injury. However, it costs a little more, which is why the price exceeds a ton.
