I tried a number of different helmets before purchasing the M11. I’ve got a wide head, so most of helmets don’t fare well for wide heads. However, the M11 accommodates my head size and shape. The Pro-Fit system gives me that added secure fit. I’ve owned the helmet for eight months now and have taken several hard hits and falls. The helmet does a great job of displacing and absorbing the impact. For it’s appearance, I have to admit. It’s not the best looking helmet on the market but the comfort and protection makes up for it.

i really like this helmet its so comfortible and the adjustment system works great, i have a narrow head and it fits great, the stock cage fits great and i didnt have to buy a different cage. the helmet is really cheep for the quality of the helmet there is no reason to not get this helmet.

i got one of these helmets about a week ago. they are a very comfortable an sturdy helmet. i got hit into the boards head first due to my lack of height and i didnt suffer any concussion or even get a little bit dazed. this helmet really is superb when it comes to head injuries. the only thing i can say about it so far thats negative is the snaps on the cage break easily.

Since it was announced last week that Andy McDonald and David Perron have been cleared to begin exercising, we’ve been trying to not put too much hope on either coming back and being prime contributors right away.
And then news came Monday that McDonald not only traveled with the team to Colorado participated in a full practice. Also included in the story was this nugget from Dan O’Neill:

Crimson look to helmets in fight against concussions – Harvard Gazette
When the Harvard Crimson men’s hockey team takes center ice later this month, it will do so with a new line of defense — a tougher hockey helmet designed by Cascade Sports in collaboration with NHL legend Mark Messier. Harvard will be the first Division 1 team to use the helmets.
The Messier Project, spearheaded by the player and his sister, Mary-Kay Messier, hopes to reduce concussions for those who wear the new helmets while bringing more attention to one of the game’s most widespread problems.
“When Mark started coaching and mentoring and saw the same kind of devastating consequences endured by kids, he really was concerned about it,” said Mary-Kay, who is vice president of business development with Cascade Sports and its general manager of hockey.
Need met hope when Mark and Mary-Kay, looking to market their helmet at an NHL equipment show in Phoenix, connected with Harvard equipment manager John O’Donnell, who was looking for a stronger helmet after three Crimson players sustained concussions in the same game.
“It was a concern of mine, equipmentwise, that maybe we should be doing something more,” said O’Donnell. “I was worried about the 30 guys in the room, keeping them in the lineup.”
Although there may never be a concussion-proof helmet, the new model, labeled the M11, has three key features to increase safety. Because 90 percent of the helmet is made from one shell, it provides more protection on impact. In addition, the helmet has a contour system for a better fit, which is crucial to safety. The last but most important feature is the helmet’s Seven Technology, which laterally displaces energy absorbed from a direct impact, allowing the helmet to sustain multiple hits while retaining a constant level of protection.
In tests, the company says, the M11 outperformed standard helmets that use expanded polypropylene (EPP) foam. After the first impact, the M11 performed 26 percent better than helmets using EPP. On the second impact the helmet performed 107 percent better, the tests said, and on the third impact that number rose to 140 percent.
After speaking with the Messiers, O’Donnell determined the helmet was worth the switch. Because Harvard is the first Division I team using the helmets, the school may influence other programs to follow suit as the sport attempts to curtail concussions across all levels — from youth hockey to the NHL.
“You don’t realize the outcome, but down the line … it could change some kid’s life,” said O’Donnell.
The hope is that the helmet, coupled with Harvard’s athletic training program that takes a proactive approach to monitoring concussions, will make a difference.
The training program includes a baseline screening of each student athlete’s cognitive functions before he even gets into action. If an athlete sustains a concussion, the training staff conducts another test and compares the results with the initial screening to determine the severity of the injury and track the athlete’s health.
“The nature of the game is inherent to inducing concussions. There’s nothing we can ever do to change that. Concussions are going to happen,” said Chad Krawiec, assistant athletic trainer for Harvard Athletics. “The biggest thing we do to reduce the incidence and recurrence of it is more on the management side. We’re very astute in terms of trying to recognize the symptoms of concussions and jumping on them right away.”
Even so, he hopes that using the helmets will reduce the number of Crimson icers in his training room.
“It’s a big concern. There’s a lot more concussions than a lot of people realize,” said Crimson head coach Ted Donato ’88, who watched a number of friends and teammates suffer severe concussions while playing at Harvard and in the NHL.
“Are they going to prevent concussions? I’m not sure anything’s going to prevent a concussion,” said Donato. “As a coach, I look at it and say: ‘Some people think that this is the best protective helmet in regards to concussions. Let’s look into it, and if we can make it work, let’s go for it. If we can avoid a concussion … it’s worth it.”
“We’re trying to keep kids in the lineup,” said O’Donnell. “We’re trying to give them the best they can wear and we’re trying to protect them.”

Navitek M11 Airkos Passive XXL Flip Front Air Fed Welding Helmet
The Navitek® M11 combines a passive welding helmet with a very large clear visor for welding. The Navitek® M11 is equipped with a shade DIN 11 passive mineral lens, offering a 110x90mm viewing area.
The Navitek® shell and all its polycarbonates are certified for grinding with the specific standards EN 166B and EN 175B. The visor is made in perfectly clear 1,0mm thick polycarbonate.
The excellent ergonomics provides perfect protection of the forehead, the ears and the neck. This high comfort level can be advanced once equipped with side vision in shade DIN 5: the Navitek® M11 then provides a 160° vision to the welder, for improved safety and advanced comfort. These side vision are made out of transparent shade DIN 5 polycarbonate.
The Navitek® M11 is equipped with the longitudinal headgear with 4 settings: height, width, angle, and longitudinal adjustment for welders operating with corrective glasses.
When associated to the Airkos®, the Navitek® M11 helmet provides the filtration of Solid and Liquid Particles (PSL). The bolted and flame retardant face seal guarantees a limited Th3 inward leakage inside the head top. The main filter on the Airkos® is classified as « Re-usable » (PRSL), and does not need to be replaced after every shift. The visual and sound alarm will inform the operator when to replace the filter.
The PRSL filter of the Airkos® is equipped with a pre-filter, blocking the largest particles and extending the lifecycle of the main filter. As an option, a pre-filter with active charcoals is available.
The Airkos® blower unit (PAPR) is approved and certified according to the EN 12941 standard, with and only with the Navitek® headtop.
The Airkos filtration unit features and alarm for filter replacement and is also equipped with a distinctive alarm for the battery, informing the operator when the charge is running low.
The Airkos® is delivered with a standard 4-cell Lithium-ion battery. A heavy-duty battery with 6 Lithium-ion cells is also available. When equipped with the standard battery (CR7020), the Airkos® can provide up to 10 hours of operating time (with a new filter and on minimum airflow). Once equipped with the heavy-duty battery (CR7021), the Airkos® offers up to 15 hours, under the same conditions.
According to the welding application, the close environment and the operator’s habits, it is possible to select between 2 airflows on the Airkos®. 180l/m is the minimum airflow. With a simple push on the control knob, the unit increases the airflow to 220l/m.
A very large and padded belt provides an excellent comfort and a perfect support of the blower unit. As options, a padded harness and/or a belt extension are available to complete the existing belt.
Each Navitek® M11 Airkos is delivered with its own storage bag. The Airkos® storage bag is perfect for transport and stock of buffer spare parts.
