In September 2009, a federal court in Philadelphia sentenced former Leningrader Andrei Mogilyansky to more than 8 years in prison, who pleaded guilty to sex tourism and molesting three orphans from St. Petersburg.

A criminal case has now been instituted in the same court against a former Kharkiv resident, hockey coach Ivan Pravilov, accused of attempting to molest two Ukrainian teenagers who studied at his hockey school.

This week, 49-year-old Pravilov, who denied his guilt, refused to ask the judge for bail and was sent back to prison.

His lawyer has not given interviews yet, but the refusal to apply for bail is most likely due to futility, since the prosecutor’s office has presented to the court in advance a number of compelling arguments against the release of Pravilov.

Among other things, the prosecution informed the judge that as early as July 19, 2007, Interpol issued a so-called “red notice” about Privalov, that is, the accused was put on the international wanted list.

According to prosecutors, the arrest warrant is based on the assertion that Rules and three of his accomplices allegedly “beat the man, causing him bodily harm.”

As stated on the Segodnya.ua website, back in 2006 in Kharkov against him and two more coaches of the Ukrainian youth hockey team “Druzhba-78” filed a case on charges of beating up employees of the Sports Palace.We are talking about the hockey club in which Pravilov worked at home.

About 4 years ago a Kharkiv resident moved to the USA (his visa expires in June of this year). Until recently, Rulev worked in the northeastern regions of the country in hockey camps and schools where young hockey players are trained. He has coached both American and Ukrainian teenagers.

Officially, Privalov lived with an acquaintance in Cherry Hill (New Jersey), traveled a lot across America and often spent long periods in other places.Sometimes his Ukrainian pupils also went with him.

In the smallest detail

In the court documents available to the BBC correspondent, the acts incriminated to Rulev are set out in the smallest detail. The case, for example, contains a memo of the investigator of the US Department of Homeland Security, Emily Evans.

The investigation began in July 2011, when the family, in which one of the victims remained, signaled to the authorities that Rules were allegedly trying to molest a 14-year-old Ukrainian who later returned to his homeland.

This victim is encrypted in open court documents as Minor No. 1. One of the family members in which the teenager lived, once entered his room and allegedly saw him and Pravilov naked. The witness says that he was afraid of Pravilov and kept silent.

Returning to the United States at the end of October last year, Minor No. 1 accompanied Pravilov on his travels. On January 13 of this year, a woman with whom a teenager lived at that time contacted law enforcement agencies. According to her, No. 1 told her that he had seen with his own eyes how, a week earlier, Rules had tried to molest another 14-year-old Ukrainian, who is encrypted in the documents as Minor No. 2.

Investigator Evans found that from December 30 to January 2, both teenagers lived with the above woman’s family in Wilmington, Delaware.
