Fall Faceoff: Kickstarting the Lacrosse Season
The Fall Faceoff tournament marks the beginning of an exciting lacrosse season in Michigan. This event, part of the Up Lax Fall Tournament series, brings together teams from across the state to compete and showcase their skills. The tournament is scheduled for November 13-14, 2021, providing a perfect opportunity for players to dust off their sticks and get back into the competitive spirit after the summer break.
Tournament Structure and Divisions
The Fall Faceoff is designed to cater to various age groups and skill levels. It typically includes divisions for:
- Youth (U10, U12, U14)
- High School (JV and Varsity)
- Adult (Men’s and Women’s)
This diverse structure ensures that players of all ages and abilities have the chance to participate and challenge themselves against worthy opponents.

- Off-season skill development
- Team bonding opportunities
- Exposure to college recruiters (for high school players)
- Preparation for the upcoming spring season
- Fun and competitive atmosphere
By participating in fall tournaments, players can maintain their competitive edge and continue to improve their game even during the off-season.

These indoor events ensure that lacrosse remains a year-round sport in Michigan, regardless of the weather conditions outside.

The Impact of Year-Round Lacrosse on Player Development
The abundance of tournaments and events throughout the fall and winter months raises an important question: How does year-round play affect player development? While opinions may vary, there are several potential benefits to consider:
- Consistent skill improvement
- Enhanced game IQ through varied competition
- Increased opportunities for college recruitment exposure
- Stronger team dynamics and chemistry
- Better physical conditioning year-round
However, it’s crucial to balance intense competition with adequate rest and recovery to prevent burnout and injuries. Coaches and parents should work together to ensure players maintain a healthy balance between lacrosse and other aspects of their lives.
Navigating the Michigan Lacrosse Scene: Tips for Players and Parents
With so many events on the calendar, it can be overwhelming for players and parents to navigate the Michigan lacrosse scene. Here are some tips to help make the most of the opportunities available:
- Plan ahead: Mark important tournament dates on your calendar early.
- Prioritize: Choose events that align with your team’s goals and individual player development needs.
- Network: Use tournaments as an opportunity to connect with other players, coaches, and recruiters.
- Balance: Ensure participation in tournaments doesn’t interfere with academic responsibilities or lead to overtraining.
- Enjoy: Remember that lacrosse is ultimately about having fun and building lifelong skills.
By following these guidelines, players and parents can make informed decisions about which events to attend and how to maximize the benefits of participation.
The Future of Lacrosse in Michigan: Growing the Game
The robust calendar of events showcased in the Mitten State Lax Events Calendar demonstrates the growing popularity of lacrosse in Michigan. This growth raises several questions about the future of the sport in the state:
- How can we continue to attract new players to the sport?
- What infrastructure improvements are needed to support the growing number of teams and tournaments?
- How can we ensure equal opportunities for both boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs?
- What role can technology play in enhancing player development and tournament organization?
Addressing these questions will be crucial for sustaining the growth of lacrosse in Michigan and ensuring a bright future for the sport.
Initiatives for Growing Lacrosse in Michigan
Several initiatives are underway to promote the growth of lacrosse in Michigan:
- Youth clinics and camps to introduce the sport to new players
- Partnerships with schools to establish new lacrosse programs
- Coaching education programs to improve the quality of instruction
- Increased media coverage of local lacrosse events
- Collaboration with professional lacrosse teams to inspire young players
These efforts aim to create a sustainable ecosystem for lacrosse in Michigan, from the youth level all the way up to collegiate and professional play.
Conclusion: Embracing the Vibrant Lacrosse Culture in Michigan
The Mitten State Lax Events Calendar paints a picture of a thriving lacrosse community in Michigan. From the Fall Faceoff in November to the winter tournaments in early 2022, players have numerous opportunities to compete, improve their skills, and enjoy the sport they love. As the game continues to grow in popularity, it’s clear that Michigan is becoming a hub for lacrosse talent and enthusiasm.
Whether you’re a player, coach, parent, or fan, the lacrosse scene in Michigan offers something for everyone. By embracing this vibrant culture and actively participating in the many events available, we can all contribute to the continued growth and success of lacrosse in the Great Lakes State.
As we look forward to the upcoming tournaments and events, let’s remember the core values that make lacrosse such a special sport: teamwork, sportsmanship, and the pursuit of excellence. These principles will undoubtedly guide the Michigan lacrosse community as it continues to flourish in the years to come.

- Once games are back on schedule they will revert to two 23 minute running time periods (20 minutes if there are playoff games)
We will make every attempt to play event minute of every game but the safety of players and all tournament attendees comes first.
NO REFUNDS will be granted if these actions are necessary after the start of the tournament
Facility owners, not tournament organizers, have final say on whether the tournament will take place due to weather and field conditions

Due to the fact that all competition brackets are ROUND ROBIN formats, a team may not intentionally forfeit a contest; even though the game may have no consequence on the seeding of the tournament at the conclusion of round robin play. Five Seawolves to Participate in Upcoming US Lacrosse Fall Classic
Story Links
SPARKS, Md. — With less than a year until the World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship, five Seawolves are primed for a run with their respective countries.
A step in that preparation is the upcoming Fall Classic on October 15 and 16 at Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse headquarters. Stony Brook coaches Sydney Pirreca and Ally Kennedy
“The Fall Classic is always a great event for the top college teams, and this year especially Team USA, as we prepare for next summer’s World Championship,” Team USA assistant and Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina said. “It’s really great for our program to be so well represented with ally and Sydney both representing Team USA, as well as our star alum Kylie Ohlmiller, as well as Kameron Halsall representing Team Canada as their goalie. We are getting closer to choosing our final roster for the World Championship so this weekend provides players a great opportunity.”
The two newest additions to the Stony Brook coaching staff, Sydney Pirreca and Ally Kennedy ’20, will be manning the midfield for the stars and stripes, while alumni Kylie Ohlmiller ’18 is in attack. Current Seawolves netminder Kameron Halsall will be between the pipes for Team Canada when the border rivals meet on Friday, october 15 in a rematch of the 2013 and 2017 world title games.
The following day, Team USA will battle defending national champion Boston College.
Ohlmiller and Kennedy team back up after a two-year stint together with Stony Brook that resulted in back to back NCAA Quarterfinal appearances, including a 2018 overtime bout with the Eagles. Ohlmiller currently stands as the NCAA’s all-time points leader, recording 498 over her storied career. Kennedy bested her in the goals department, scoring 266 over her Seawolves tenure, landing her second on the all-time goals list for the program.
Pirreca, who joined the Seawolves coaching staff in late September, was a two-time Tewaaraton Watch List nominee during her time with Florida. She is one of seven Gators all time to reach 200 points, finishing with 215 over her career. She ranks sixth in program history in goals (154) and assists (61).
Spallina, recently extended through the 2026 season, has led Stony Brook to three NCAA Quarterfinals in the last four seasons and has the Seawolves looking for a ninth consecutive America East Championship when the 2022 season gets underway. His squad currently owns the country’s longest winning streak against conference opponents of any of the team sports, winning 54 consecutive against league opposition.

- Moscow will host the ASB 3X3 Superfinal and the “Moving Up” Cup 3X3
On November 21 and 22, the Sports Festival “Moving Up” will take place in Moscow. Under his auspices, two large 3×3 basketball tournaments will be held at once: Superfinal of the all-Russian competition among students in 3×3 basketball and the Cup “Moving up” 3×3, as well as a sports and entertainment show program.
The Student Basketball Association (ACB) is the largest student sports league in Europe. From August to November 2020, ASB held 30 regional 3×3 basketball tournaments throughout Russia, in which more than 2,000 student basketball players took part. All winners of regional tournaments, as well as prize-winners of the most high-status of them, received invitations to the All-Russian ASB Superfinal in Moscow. They will be supplemented by wild card holders – teams specially invited by the organizers.
In total, the best 32 men’s and 32 women’s teams will take part in the Superfinal of the all-Russian competition among students in basketball 3×3. They will compete for the title of the champion of Russia in basketball 3×3 among students and the right to represent our country in international student basketball competitions 3×3. On the first day of November 21, matches of the group stage and 1/8 finals for men and women will be held. On the second day of November 22 – playoffs from the quarterfinals. The decisive matches will be shown live on the Internet and on the Match-Strana federal sports TV channel. The audience of the matches will be several hundred thousand people.
The Cup “Moving Up” 3×3 among men’s and women’s teams will be held in two age groups (2003-2006 and 2002 and older). This is a massive 3×3 basketball tournament for all interested teams. His matches will also be streamed live on the Internet.
The program of the event also includes several spectacular events designed for the audience: the ASB Friends Match, basketball skills competitions, a 3-point throws competition and a top-throw competition among the best dunkers in Russia.Spectators will see a show program before the final matches and an award ceremony upon their completion. A DJ will work at the site, a video screen will be installed, promotions will be held, and an entertaining fan zone will be organized.
Basketball 3×3 is rapidly gaining popularity in our country and the world. The discipline was first included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Upward Movement Sports Festival was organized to promote an active, healthy lifestyle, popularize physical education among the younger generation, and strengthen patriotic consciousness. The name “Moving Up” became widely known after the release of the film of the same name about the legendary basketball player Sergei Belov, who was the initiator and the first sports director of the ASB. The concept of “Moving up” includes a set of life principles of a great athlete – striving for the highest result, overcoming oneself and believing in one’s dream. V. Reflection. Those who wish to speak about what they liked, what they learned new…. 90,018 90,000 National, youth and junior ice hockey teams of Belarus won the Four Nations Tournament
Tournaments of four nations, which took place at the end of the outgoing week in Slovenian Jesenica, Latvian Jelgava and Slovakian Piestany, were won by the national, youth and junior national hockey teams of Belarus, respectively, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.
The game day began with good news from the juniors. They played the final match of the Four Nations Tournament with the hosts of the site, the national team of Slovakia. The Belarusians took the gates of their counterparts in each period, and in the final twenty minutes they did it twice. The change of goalkeepers did not help the Slovaks either. Arseniy Kovgorenya, Vladislav Naumov, Dmitry Tukach, Matvey Shidlovsky scored on the puck. But the goalkeeper of Belarusians Jan Shostak did not make mistakes in the game and kept his possessions intact. By the way, he designed the second shutout in three matches of the tournament.
The youth team of Belarus also did not fail in the final match of the competition, having arranged a rout to the owners of the site – the team of Latvia. The Baltic team conceded almost six goals. The double was scored by Alexander Suvorov, the puck was scored by Vitaly Antonovich, Vitaly Pinchuk, Sergei Kuznetsov and Nikita Bespalov. It is interesting that the final score was set long before the final siren – in the 42nd minute, the attack of the Belarusians in the minority ended in success. However, here our goalkeeper failed to issue a shutout. On the 28th minute Darels Dukurs scored the Latvians. However, this puck became a prestige goal at the end of the game – Nikita Mytnik did not provide more chances to score a goal.
But the last match of the national hockey team of Belarus at the Four Nations Tournament turned out to be much more intense. The start turned out to be quite good – by the end of the third minute our players were leading with a score of 2: 0 after accurate shots by Artur Gavrus and Ivan Drozdov. Moreover, the second goal was scored as a shootout. After such a cold shower, the French began to play more aggressively and both goals were returned to the equator of the game. Dylan Fabre and Kevin Bozon did their best here. And three seconds before the end of the second period, the French took the lead at all – Ivan Kulbakov did not cope with the throw of Valentin Clairaud. This dvadtsatiminutka “distinguished itself” and several fights, as a result of which the Belarusians were in the minority, and Yegor Gainetdinov was completely removed before the end of the game.
But the third period removed all questions about the winner of the meeting. In the 47th minute, Ivan Drozdov equalized the score. Less and less time remained until the final siren, and in the final minutes of the meeting, the French defense seemed to crumble. It’s no joke – Sebastian Ilonen missed three goals in less than five minutes. Two beautiful attacks were brought to an end by Sergey Sapego and Ilya Usov. The final result was established by Artur Gavrus.

The MAZ-SPORTauto team is completing preparations for the Dakar-2022 rally-raid.What tests the new race will prepare for the Belarusian crews, the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti” found out.
– This is a major start on our competitive calendar. We are preparing for it ahead of time and thoroughly, – says the head and pilot of our squad Sergey Vyazovich. – “Dakar” again, for the third time in a row, will pass through the territory of Saudi Arabia, which acquired the right to organize it for five years. 12 stages are planned to be held approximately from 2 to 14 January. Our racing equipment will leave for this country at the end of November along the already familiar sea route. We will receive cargo cars for the New Year. We do not know the route of the rally-raid yet, as well as the start numbers. But the relief conditions of the track are well known. It is a desert area with rocky areas. Both factors are fraught with danger. Arabian sand is less terrible for MAZs compared to the high dunes that they had to overcome in 2019 in South America, in Peru. However, it is possible to bury in certain soft areas.Whoever follows the performances of our team probably remembers how my car was pulled out of the sand by two trucks. The biggest difficulties lie on rocky stretches that cannot be bypassed, it is difficult to maneuver there. Every large cobblestone is capable of piercing a wheel.
The past “Dakar” was unsuccessful for Vyazovich and his crew, although it started from the leading positions in the general classification. At the fifth stage, the car suffered a serious and fatal breakdown of the automatic gearbox. The race ended there. Nevertheless, in the next Arabian start, Sergey is aiming at the maximum result. Vyazovich’s track record included a silver Bedouin in 2018 and a bronze one in 2020. For the complete set, it remains to conquer only the highest step of the podium. The task is ambitious and feasible.
– Each Dakar is an extreme test not only for technology, but also for people, – emphasizes S. Vyazovich. – Three crews are preparing for the rally-raid.All our trucks are bonneted, one of them will simultaneously play the role of a technical vehicle. Which one? The crew that will be on the lower lines of the general classification. Moreover, the support car will not differ from the other two either in speed characteristics or in design. Compared to the last Dakar, my crew has not changed. It included navigator Pavel Garanin and mechanic Anton Zaporoshchenko. In the design of Mazovian cars, as in previous races, certain innovations have been made. However, it is too early to say which ones. After all, our competitors are also preparing technical surprises. We will tell you about them after the end of the race and return to their homeland.

The official representative of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz said that Cuba will be able to adequately defend its right to an independent path of development, despite the growing pressure from outside, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports with reference to BelTA.
A. Glaz shared this opinion, answering the question of how the Foreign Ministry assesses the situation around Cuba in the light of information that certain forces are planning to organize mass protest actions on the island in the near future.
– Recently, unfortunately, attempts to destabilize sovereign, independent states and forcibly overthrow the legally elected government through the organization of mass riots are becoming the norm for some countries, – said a representative of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.- We see the kind of pressure Cuba is coming under from certain external players who are trying to impose their will on the Cuban people.
A. Glaz noted that similar steps were taken in relation to Belarus. He also voiced the position of the Belarusian side.
– Belarus consistently opposes encroachments on the peaceful, calm and stable development of countries and peoples. We do not accept attempts to organize color revolutions from abroad and violent change of power. We are convinced that friendly Cuba will be able to adequately defend its right to an independent path of development, despite the growing pressure from outside, – said A. Glaz.

Border guards of Belarus provide maximum assistance to refugees at the Belarusian-Polish border. On November 14, the chairman of the primary organization of the Belarusian Union of Women of the Council of the Republic Tamara Leonchik told about this, the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti” reports with reference to the STV TV channel.
– The work of our border troops is very well structured, they are trying, given the very large number of people, not to allow any crush, no congestion, – said the chairman.
She noted that the Belarusians worked very quickly, providing humanitarian aid for refugees.
– First, the maximum assistance from the border troops and from the military, who are there to maintain law and order. Maximum participation, sympathy for these people, – T. Leonchik noted. – When the guys who serve there say: “There are small children there, they will bring you a pregnant woman here now, maybe you can help her with something?” Maximum human involvement.
A representative of the Belarusian Union of Journalists also spoke about what is happening on the Polish side: the border guards of the neighboring country turn on the searchlights, including a flashing one (stroboscope).
– During the day we were there before dark there were no announcements known in English. It is very strange that Poles include these announcements only at night, – T. Leonczyk shared. – More impressive than searchlights and military vehicles, it is the complete composure of the people. They see these children, there is complete silence from the other side, no one reacts in any way, just silence. And as you know, indifference and silence – is the most terrible thing.

Belarusian women could not remain indifferent to the refugee problem. They were among the first to go to the spontaneous camp on the border to bring humanitarian aid. The chairman of the primary organization of the Belarusian Union of Women of the Council of the Republic Tamara Leonchik told about this in more detail, the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti” reports with reference to the STV TV channel.
– The scale of what is happening can only be understood there. These are endless bonfires, acrid smoke, but the greatest impression is made by a huge number of children and women. Having been there, I began to understand what 1 ton of milk, 1.5 ton of meat products, 5 thous.l of drinking water, – T. Leonchik said. – For two days we have given out 7.5 tons of water and food. I think it was not enough for everyone.
According to her, the refugees turned out to be sociable, they go to dialogue, seeing that they want to help. There were no problems during the trip in communicating with them, someone was helped by an interpreter, someone himself spoke in English.
– We immediately came and said: “We represent the Belarusian Union of Women, we want to give milk, apples, cookies to the youngest children”.It is necessary to take into account the mentality of the Kurds and Arabs. From them all the best in the family is received by the man, so women cannot always get milk and bread. Therefore, on this basis, we asked them to line up the children. So that, first of all, this humanitarian aid was transferred to them, – said the chairman.
Representatives of the organization walked around the entire territory of the camp, and all refugees who wished on the Belarusian-Polish border could contact them with questions.
– Everyone is asking the same question: “When will we be allowed to cross the border?”Unfortunately, we, for our part, cannot answer this question, – T. Leonchik said.
She added that there is no anger, aggression, provocation from the refugees. These foreigners claim that they do not want to go to Poland and are waiting to be admitted to Germany, France and other countries.

Refugees staying in the camp on the Belarusian-Polish border told about their situation and plans, and also noted with gratitude that Belarus had done a lot for them, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports with reference to BelTA.
The majority of foreigners seeking to enter Poland are Kurds from Iraq. There are many women and children among them. Earlier, refugees have repeatedly noted that the ultimate goal of their route is the EU and they have no intention of staying in Belarus. However, they did not manage to get to Poland. The refugees set up a camp near the border line. Their situation is complicated by weather conditions: now it is getting colder not only at night, but also during the day.
The Belarusian side is actively helping these people.Food, water, warm clothes, blankets, hygiene products are brought to the camp. Trash containers and dry closets were recently installed there.
What Refugees Say
According to one of the Kurdish refugees Ismail, he left his country because it is not safe there, and now hopes to get to England to start from scratch. Two more refugees from Kurdistan, Abdul and Tola, want to go to Germany to settle down and then move their families there.
– Belarusians help us a lot with firewood so that we don’t freeze, they give us food and warm clothes.Your country has done a lot for us, – said Tola.
A group of students from Iraq also aspires to the EU. The young people said that they did not want to return home, because everything in their country was destroyed and there was a danger to life.
– There are no hospitals or shops. There is no work either, but there is a danger. Therefore, we decided to go to Europe, where we will have prospects – to Germany, Belgium. We don’t want to go back home, because nothing good awaits us there, – said one of the refugees.

It is called the lungs of Europe. What is interesting about the Yelnya nature reserve and is it possible to meet bears there, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency found out.
Greetings from the eternal glaciers
One of the largest lakes and bog complexes in Europe is considered a monument of the Ice Age. Located in the Vitebsk region. The path is not short: from Minsk to Miory about 235 km, and there are another ten.But autumn in Belarus is so good that it is a pleasure to go and contemplate the native nature! Domchali. We set off on a swamp ecotrail, which stretches in one direction for about 2.7 km. In my mind, the swamp was always a dangerous bog with hummocks. And even water, kikimory, goblin, a cloud of mosquitoes, all sorts of ailments. Oh, what a delusion! On that day, I discovered a new wonderful type of tourism – swamping.
Yelnyansk miracle
We carefully step on the planks, admire the colorful autumn landscapes and listen to the guide.
– Do you think we are walking on a plain? In fact, we are going up, – Elena surprises us. – The center of the bog has a convex shape and rises several meters above the peripheral areas. This effect is created by the uneven growth of sphagnum – bog moss. It actually has no roots: the lower part gradually dies off and turns into peat, while the upper part continues to grow.
In the 1950s – 1960s, land reclamation was carried out in Yelnya. After the peat, in which the carbon dioxide was collected, was roused, it was found that oxygen began to be released into the atmosphere in huge quantities. It turned out that 1 ha of swamp produces about 2 15–20 times more than 1 ha of forest! But that is not all.
Drink from the swamp
– The raised bog feeds exclusively on precipitation and attracts a large amount of dust – about 3 tons per year, – Elena continues. – Peat binds it and retains it in its deposits, and with it – heavy metals and other harmful substances. At the same time, the water in the swamp lakes is completely purified.
Due to its special structure, sphagnum absorbs liquid in huge quantities: one weight unit contains up to 20 parts of water. The potable reserves of the Elnya bog reservoirs amount to 450 million cubic meters – two-thirds of the volume of the largest lake in Belarus, Naroch Lake.
You can drink it without fear. It tastes slightly sour, but pleasant. And if you wash your face with such water, you don’t need any cream.
But what about land reclamation? To preserve the rarest flora and fauna in Europe, it was decided to declare swamps as centers of protected areas. So, in 1968, “Yelnya” first became a hydrological reserve, and in 2007 it received the status of a republican landscape.
We move deep into the swamps and breathe in the cleanest air. I linger to film the autumn landscape. It resembles the Grimpen Bog in The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle. Involuntarily I listen – isn’t there a howling monster with burning eyes?
Photo BelTA
Rescue Corner
On the way there are small water reservoirs.
– These are the so-called lakes, – says Elena. – Formed in bogs in places where sphagnum colonies are ruptured and are interconnected by canals. The most beautiful corners of nature with islets where people lived 60–70 years ago. They ran a subsidiary farm, and when the water froze, they took the products to the fair on sledges.
During the Great Patriotic War, a partisan brigade operated in the swamps. Hard-to-reach areas of land covered the location of the fighters from the Nazis. In winter, the partisans set up an airfield on the frozen Yelnyansk Lake. The planes landed and delivered everything the partisans needed: medicines, food, ammunition, and took away the wounded. The Nazis were afraid to climb into the quagmire. The swamps saved the lives of many civilians – Belarusians, Jews, representatives of other nationalities.
Plants
Along the eco-trail, stands with information on flora and fauna were installed. There are more than 400 plant species in the reserve, some of which are listed in the Red Book.We will learn about the predatory sundew – an insect hunter. What a mean flower! The villi will open and wait for the insect to fly in. Clap – the petals have closed, digestion has begun, and the midge is finished.
– Marshes abound in lingonberries, blueberries, bilberries, cloudberries, – Elena reports. – Every year people collect over 500 tons of berries here.
We are allowed to turn off the trail and walk on boggy but proven soil. The impression is that you are stomping on a rubber tire in the water.Where are the berries? Alas, they were eaten by other tourists before us. Only a few cranberries were found.

Birds
Yelnya is home to about 100 bird species, of which over 20 are listed in the Red Data Book. You can, for example, see Black-throated Diver, Ptarmigan, Sandpiper, Mallard, Golden Plover, Medium Curlew, Great Ult, and Rock Gull. A special phenomenon is the common cranes. The most graceful and noble birds. They do not nest in Belarus. They stop with us during the autumn migration to gain strength before flying to the wintering countries of North Africa, Israel from nesting places in Russia and Scandinavia.Cranes are omnivores, until late in the evening they clean up the fields after the harvesting campaign, and then fly to spend the night in the swamps. We saw them several times on the way to Miory. They stopped, but did not go out – they admired from afar. Otherwise, the cautious birds would immediately fly away.
– Cranes communicate with each other in their own language, – Elena explains. – Warns of danger. And when the males try to win the hearts of the ladies, they dance very beautifully. The girlfriend is chosen for life. They are sensitive to the family and chicks.
Animals
Boars, foxes, hares, elks, wolves, lynxes are found in Yelnya. And also lizards, snakes. They say there are even vipers.
– Bears have appeared, – the guide warns. – They walk back and forth around the perimeter of the reserve and may unexpectedly meet in the forest. In April, we found a footprint from a huge animal paw in a parking lot near the beginning of the eco-trail. The length is my two feet.
We safely reach the end of the route and go to the lake.We collect some water with us, take a selfie as a souvenir. The road back seems much shorter. Before leaving, I inspect the parking lot – what if Mikhail Potapych visited it again? Alas, no trace. But “Yelnya” sinks into the soul so deeply that one wants to come back here again.
Inquiry
Eco trail was built in 2014. Lined with logs and boards, although this pleasure is not cheap and requires regular maintenance. Every spring volunteers come to Yelnya to renew the track.

Minsk State Automobile Inspection calls on parents to ensure the safe transportation of children and once again draw their attention to safe behavior on the road. The correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti” informs about this on the Telegram channel of the UGAI GUVD of the Minsk city executive committee.
It is allowed to cross the carriageway only at pedestrian crossings. Before the child steps on the road, he should stop and make sure that there are no cars driving in his direction.
Children need to be explained that they must not abruptly leave or run out onto the road because of parked cars, trees, bushes, even if this road is in the yard. It is dangerous to bypass a parking vehicle in the immediate vicinity. The fact is that the driver may not notice the children due to their small stature.
Parents should attach reflective elements to their child’s clothing. They will make it more visible to drivers in the dark.
As for the transportation of children in a car, during the trip, according to the traffic rules, they must be in special restraints corresponding to the weight and height of the child. It is allowed to transport children under the age of 12 years without the use of restraints, if the child’s height is more than 150 cm. In this case, the child (like everyone sitting in the car) must be wearing a seat belt.

Lovely Lily | Shulgan-Tash
On a cloudy December day, while skiing along the edge of a deciduous forest, I accidentally touched a tall dry plant with a stick with arms, as it were, raised up, at the ends of which you can see clenched “fists” – boxes. From a sharp jolt, the stem deviated to the side, and a mass of flat triangular seeds poured out onto the snow with a dry rustle. In another place, a couple of the same plants were found, which did not need someone else’s help to scatter the seeds: the tall stems broke from the wind, rains and falling snow, and tilted the boxes, from which the seeds poured out.Looking at a dry blackened plant, it is difficult to recognize in it the most beautiful flower of our forests – the curly lily, or locust, in Latin – the marchagon lily. Many plants of the lily family, which includes our “beautiful Lily”, are distinguished by their beauty and sophistication, and sometimes – by the aroma of their flowers. From this family, tulips (Bieberstein and drooping) and Russian hazel grouse grow in the reserve. They have beautiful bright flowers, but the aroma is pleasant and sweet, but weak, only the Bieberstein tulip has.
In June, making your way through a shady broad-leaved forest, you involuntarily stop when you come across a blooming locust lily. Tall, sometimes more than one and a half meters, the plant has an erect stem, alternately arranged leaves and a separate “skirt” – a beautiful rosette of leaves. In the apical inflorescence there are several large pink, dotted, graceful drooping flowers with yellow-brown anthers sticking out and a long pistil. At the beginning of dissolution, the flowers are bright, pink, velvety from above due to pubescence, with petals slightly bent back.As the flower develops, the petals are strongly bent and curled. The flower becomes paler, but more elegant because of the whimsically twisted “curls”. The hairs fall off, and the flowers shine, as if covered with pink varnish.
It is a pity that such a beauty has no scent at all. It does not emit nectar, but there are always many winged visitors on its flowers. And they sit mainly on the anthers. There is information on the Internet that butterflies pollinate the lily. Perhaps so, especially since the color of the flower and its size allow this to be done. But I have seen beetles and flies on lilies. Many diurnal butterflies prefer the colors of red and similar spectra. The flowers are likely to have a scent that attracts insects, but is not perceived by the human nose, a heat or ultraviolet pattern, indicating a source of non-existent nectar. And the speckled flowers are also not without reason, and serves the same purpose.
Attracting pollinators by various fraudulent methods is very common in nature. And here only the flower wins. After all, butterflies, like flies, have a proboscis adapted only for liquid food, such as nectar. But among the beetles there are many pollen eaters: the oral apparatus allows. Sitting on large anthers, butterflies stain the whole body, including the wings, with abundant yellow-orange pollen. Flying to other flowers, they touch the long stigma of the lily pistil and leave pollen on it. Based on the number of seed bolls always present on the stems in autumn and winter, pollination is very successful. The flat shape of the seeds allows optimal and economical use of the volume of the seed box: in it, they are tightly packed with several “columns”, which allows them to hold up to 60-80 seeds.
The plant is a rare species for the Urals, in Russia it is listed in some regional Red Data Books. In the reserve, the locust blooms along the edges of forest edges and in old sparse deciduous forests. It is a medicinal and food plant. During the Second World War, local residents collected and ate lily tubers, rich in protein and starch. Beautiful Lily keeps up with the times – global warming has affected her too. It now blooms on average on June 12th, 13 days earlier than many years ago.The last three wet years have had a favorable effect on the lily population in the reserve and in the adjacent territories. So so far, we have not noticed the negative impact of climate change on this beautiful plant.
The locust develops to an adult flowering state for a long time, several years. And although she scatters a lot of seeds, in the forest you will not see this plant at every step. Too many conditions must coincide at the same time for the beautiful Lily to sprout from a seed, turn into a tiny sprout, and bloom in a few years.I believe that on a walk, having met this beauty, you will not raise a hand to pick her flower, or dig up an onion and bring it home. It is very difficult to extract it from the soil without damaging it, and in the garden it often refuses to bloom at all. And locust seeds germinate very poorly. A lot of unpretentious cultural hybrids of curly lily have been bred, which can be purchased in stores and at fairs and planted near the house or in the country. So I urge everyone to touch beauty not with their hands, but only with their hearts.
