University of Vermont Programs
The university uses the traditional American Liberal Education system, which allows students to choose a major (major), as well as a set of subjects of interest from different fields for individualized learning (minor).
UVM accepts international students for bachelor’s and master’s programs directly upon fulfillment of the entrance requirements or through its own training program with gentle entrance requirements and guaranteed admission to the chosen program:
Global Pathway Program
A preparatory course is required for high school graduates who are not ready for direct undergraduate admission due to insufficient academic achievement or English language skills. Students who successfully complete the training are guaranteed to be enrolled in an advanced undergraduate course (2nd semester or 2nd year) in the following areas >>>
- Age: 17+
- Duration: 1, 2, 3 or 4 semesters (1 semester = 4 months) + 3 – 3.5 years Bachelor
- Beginning of studies: August, January
- Academic requirements: completed secondary education with good performance (3.0 GPA for 1 semester, 2.75 GPA for 2, 3 or 4 semesters)
- Language requirements: TOEFL iBT 80 (1 semester), 65 (2 semesters), 50 (3 semesters), 40 (4 semesters)
- Guaranteed undergraduate progression: 2.5+ (2.8 for business faculty) + English at TOEFL iBT 80
Direct Entry (Undergraduate)
UVM enables high-performing international students to enter bachelor’s programs without going through the preparatory department. The following undergraduate programs are available for direct admission in the following areas >>>
- Age: 17+
- Duration: 4 years
- Beginning of studies: August, January
- Academic requirements: completed secondary education with excellent results (3. 0 – 3.7+ GPA according to the American system, depending on the specialty)
- Language requirements: TOEFL iBT 80+ / IELTS Academic 6.5+
- Other Requirements: SAT/ACT, Portfolio, Viewing, Listening, Subject-Specific Scores (If Required for a Specific Faculty)
Master’s International Year
The preparatory course can be useful for students who have completed their higher education, but who prefer to receive additional training before starting a master’s program at UVM. The reason may be both insufficient knowledge of the language and a gap in academic knowledge, and some students prefer to change their profile. Successful graduates of the preparatory course receive guaranteed admission to the second year of the master’s program in the following areas >>>
- Age: 20+
- Duration: 2 semesters
- Beginning of training: August
- Academic requirements: completed higher education with good performance (2. 75+ GPA)
- Language requirements: TOEFL iBT 75 / IELTS Academic 6.0
- Progression to the 2nd year of the Master’s program: academic performance 3.0+ (3.2 for the Faculty of Business), TOEFL iBT 80+
Direct Entry (Graduate)
Students with strong academic records and excellent results in TOEFL/GRE/GMAT may apply for direct admission to the Master’s program in the following areas >>>
- Age: 21+
- Duration: 2 years
- Beginning of training: August
- Academic requirements: completed higher education with good performance (3.0 – 3.5 GPA depending on the specialty)
- Language requirements: TOEFL iBT 80+ / IELTS Academic 6.5+
Accommodation
Most first year students are accommodated in student residences on campus.
