President Biden called the U.S. men’s soccer team to wish them luck ahead of their first match in the World Cup.
NEW YORK (WABC) — The World Cup is underway in Qatar and Team USA tied its first game 1-1 against the team from Wales.
Of the 26 players on the team, four are from New York and two are from New Jersey. Plus, their coach also has ties to New Jersey.
Gregg Berhalter is from Englewood and played soccer at Saint Benedict’s Prep in Newark.
A few days ago, the school was named the number one boy’s soccer team in the country. It’s the school’s 14th time at the top of the rankings.
Berhalter was a member of the team’s first top-ranked squad in 1990.
Aside from Berhalter, six players from the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team have local ties — including Tim Weah who scored the first U.S. goal in Monday’s game.
Weah, a son of former FIFA Player of the Year and current Liberian President George Weah, scored after a pass from Christian Pulisic in the 36th minute.
Weah ran toward the American fans with arms extended and slid on both knees. He was mobbed by teammates, then raised both hands skyward and blew a kiss to the heavens.
Before their match, the team shared a video of President Joe biden calling the team to wish them well at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“You guys, I know you’re the underdog, but I’ll tell you what man, you got some of the best players in the world on your team and you’re representing this country and I know you’re gonna play your hearts out,” Biden said. “So let’s go shock them all. Keep trusting in one another. Play as hard as you can and you know, for you and your families, your teammates and the whole country is rooting for you.”
The match was played in the Arabian desert west of Doha at rebuilt Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, lit in brilliant colors and featuring an exterior facade meant to replicate undulating sand dunes.
The U.S. Soccer Federation sold about 3,300 tickets, and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was on hand in the crowd of 43,418.

In the United States, they are indignant and at the same time laughing at the new equipment of their national team, in which they will appear before the whole world in Qatar 2022. Only a blind man did not notice the colors of the Russian flag on the sleeves of the Americans’ jerseys.
Fans demand to throw this uniform in the trash and find those responsible.

Social media in the US literally exploded after the first photos of the new football team uniform appeared. Even the players themselves could not contain their emotions when they saw this.
“We tried to tell them,” lamented Juventus player Weston McKenny.
“We are angry, as are all the fans,” forward Timothy Weah wrote.
– Not the best option, to put it mildly. You used to look at the US national team kit and know where these guys came from. And now you look and think, maybe it’s France or someone else? Kellin Acosta admitted.

“Pulisic now playing for Russia?”
If Acosta saw the outlines of the French flag in the new uniform, then the majority of fans on social networks recognized the Russian tricolor there. They were united in not understanding how this could even happen. Someone even sarcastically noted that nothing united the American football community like a new uniform for the national team.
— Why do we have a Russian flag on our sleeves? Chris Allen asked.
– I absolutely dislike this white uniform. Yes, there is a Russian flag on the sleeves! The blue uniform is still all right, nycfc.source noted.
– I am confused. And what, Pulisic is now playing for Russia? Does he have dual citizenship? – ironic AnonymousTroll.
– I will accept this form if they explain to me the reason why it was created in this form. Otherwise it looks like crap. And yes, the sleeves really say the word “Russia,” wrote Gray.
– Terrible shape. Also with the Russian tricolor on the sides,” Jody Robbins continued.
– The white uniform is the uniform of the Russian team before they were suspended from the World Cup. It’s quite obvious,” said TJ.

“My wife ran for Canadian citizenship”
The indignation did not end only with the similarity with the uniform of the Russian national team and our tricolor on the sleeves. Fans in general were shocked by the design of the equipment and all sorts of people expressed their emotions on social networks. Someone even tried to create a petition demanding to change the uniform, but things did not go beyond that.
– I’ve always dreamed of going into a sports store and seeing a lot of Team USA jerseys there.
It finally happened, but this new form is incredibly ugly. In it, we will go to the world championship, which someone has already cursed,” wrote Mike Tool.
– Can we terminate the cooperation with the manufacturer of this uniform if it is really the T-shirts they gave us? asks Christopher.
– As if this form was taken and copied from somewhere. In other countries, everything is the same, only with different colors. It looks pitiful,” KoyanniSCOTtsi admitted.
– I will never give my money for this T-shirt. I’d rather buy a German one,” wrote Scott Rohrig.
– Disgusting. My wife just saw this and ran for Canadian citizenship, either jokingly or seriously, the tide sports enjoyer said.

Despite all the negativity, it seems that the US national football team will actually go to the World Cup in Qatar and perform there in uniform, on some elements of which the Russian flag is clearly visible.
Who would have thought that our country was removed everywhere, deprived of symbols and an anthem, and America would suddenly come to help Russia in this matter. Let not with everything according to your will.

Two weeks before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the US national football team was at the center of a scandal. The Stars and Stripes presented a uniform in which it is impossible not to see .

In fact, the white-red-blue combination on the uniform of the American team is far from new. These are the traditional colors of the US national team. Just take a look at the photos from the 19 World Championships98, 2002 and 2006: blue and red stripes on a white background on the sleeves, collar, or top-down stripe. American football players now have a bright blue and red element on the sleeves on a white background, stripes of the same colors are painted on the leggings. Designers think everything is fine
Nike ignored the criticism by saying that it’s okay, after the first game at the World Cup everyone will get used to the new equipment. Well, let’s see, there is still time to change the design. Don’t be surprised if the Stars and Stripes come out in a different uniform for the first World Cup game against Wales on November 21st. Criticism is still serious, fans even wrote a petition calling for a change in design.
