National Convention | National Federation of the Blind
The National Federation of the Blind National Convention is the largest gathering of blind people in the world. It is the premier event for training, support, and information for the blind community. It also serves as a governing body, democratically electing our leadership and establishing each year’s organizational priorities.
Although the convention is open to all, our constitution states that only members of the NFB have the right to participate in decision making when it comes to organizational policy. If you are not already a member, join the NFB today.

Dear Members,
2020 has been one of the most challenging years as we faced the
unprecedented pandemic of Covid-19 which brought our country to a standstill.
Together, just as we have done in other times of trouble and hardship, we rallied
and will ultimately come out stronger. Members across the country are in for the
long haul, and knowing what we have overcome before, TOGETHER I know we
will persevere.
Since January, the National Advisory Committee and National Area Directors
have had several zoom meetings discussing a variety of topics, and for the time
being we will continue to meet this way. In May the decision was made to cancel
the 136th National Convention, Teachers Training School and the
Student Honors Intensive Program. This was a difficult decision, but one that was
made with everyone’s safety being the top priority.
The National Advisory
Committee and National Area Directors quickly jumped into action, connecting
with our chapters and their members via zoom meetings. It was important to us to have the opportunity to check in with everyone, help with reopening plans where we could, and ultimately just letting everyone know they are not alone and TOGETHER we will persevere. These were awe-inspiring conversations filled with compassion and determination, and it was evident that Dance Masters of America is more than just an International Dance Organization, it is family. Thank you to those who participated, these meetings were evidence that distance cannot prevent us from keeping our momentum going.
Since I came on as National Second Vice-President, the National Advisory Committee and National Area Directors have been faced with many obstacles, but together as a TEAM we were able to jump the hurtles and overcome those obstacles. On August 31st, 2020 President Cindy Larsen resigned her position as National President, moving her to Immediate Past President, myself to National President and Penny Koza-Lemansky to National First Vice-President with Charleen Locascio remaining as National Treasurer.
I want to assure everyone that this was just a change in title for all of us, as we all remain committed to working TOGETHER to move this prestigious organization forward.
Thank you to our Immediate Past President Cindy Larsen for all you have done to lead our organization over the past two years as our President. Your love and dedication to the organization, as well as your incredible leadership has kept DMA strong and thriving!
We are hopeful that on January 14th-17th we will be able to come together at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN for the 2020 National Solo Title Scholarship Competition. Please be sure to check the website (https://www.dmanational.org) frequently for updated information on this event.
We are also hoping to be able to see each other at the following 2021 Dance Masters of America Events we have planned:

With the great success of the spring chapter meetings via zoom and the uncertainty of travel this season, we’ve decided to continue to stay connected by joining your chapter meetings in a virtual manner.
Additionally, your National Area Directors will be reaching out to ask for valuable information that we need to continue our forward momentum. We do not intend to let this virus stop the valuable work of this TEAM.
In closing I want to again assure all members that Cindy, Charleen, Penny and I, along with the National Area Directors: Jeanne, Patricia, Erin, Valerie, Charlene, Brenna and Kathi, will continue to work as a TEAM for the betterment of this 136 year-old organization.

The fourth stage in USA Fencing’s Return to Fencing plan will include NAC tournaments that will be held in April, May and June. All tournament events will be held in accordance with local and state COVID-19 regulations.
The USA Fencing summer competition season will include two additional tournaments in July and August, following the USA Fencing National Championships and July North American Cup, which will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia from July 3-12.

The Elks National Convention Commission is working closely with the Tampa Convention Center and Visit Tampa Bay to plan for a safe and healthy Elks National Convention. Safety measures and plans are evolving, but are likely to include social distancing, attendee occupancy management and personal mask use which is currently required in Tampa.

The final of the national championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia) is the largest professional skill competition in Russia according to WorldSkills standards among students of secondary and higher professional educational institutions aged 16 to 25 and representatives of the WorldSkills Russia Juniors direction – schoolchildren under 16 years.
In 2021, the final of the IX National Championship “Young Professionals” (WorldSkills Russia) will be held from 21 to 25 July in Ufa. Competitions will be held in 105 professional competencies, divided into 7 blocks: construction and construction technologies; information and communication technologies; creativity and design; production and engineering technologies; services sector; transport and logistic; education.

Competitions will be held on Mount Tumannaya on the basis of the Sports and Tourism Complex of the Department for Physical Culture and Sports of the Administration of the Tashtagol District “Provincial Center for Snowboard and Alpine Skiing”. The Academy will be held on professional tracks and with professional refereeing. The size of the team is 4-8 people, the number of teams from the organization is not limited. The composition of the team is formed upon registration the day before the competition. July 21-25 in the Republic of Bashkortostan in the city of Ufa the Final of the IX National Championship “Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia)” – 2021 will take place.The championship will be held in the traditional face-to-face format with strict adherence to measures to prevent the spread of diseases caused by the new coronavirus.
During the championship, about 2000 representatives of the expert community and about 1800 contestants from 85 regions of Russia will gather in the capital of the republic, who will demonstrate their skills in 105 competencies, divided into 7 blocks: construction and construction technologies; information and communication technologies; creativity and design; production and engineering technologies; services sector; transport and logistic; education.
“WorldSkills Russia is solving the most important task – increasing the prestige, quality and competitiveness of vocational education. The national team of the republic adequately performs at the championships in professional skill, wins medals in many competencies. Bashkortostan has a rich history of training real masters, workers who have made a great contribution to the development of key sectors of the economy. Our network of professional technical educational institutions is one of the largest in the country. Today we train employees with the most demanded qualifications, whose knowledge and competencies meet international standards.Bashkortostan proudly accepted the flag of the national championship “Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia)” – 2021. It is a great honor for us to hold such a large-scale championship and a good opportunity to strengthen interregional cooperation and exchange experience. We will build new facilities and sites for the championship in the republic, which will further work to train young professionals for our economy, ”said the head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov.
The opening ceremony of the championship will take place on July 21 on the territory of the Ufa-Arena Ice Palace.The business program of the championship “Young Professionals (WorldSkills Russia)” – 2021 will be held on July 22-24 in the congress hall “Toratau”. Qualifying competitions for participation in the national final of the championship will be held from 1 to 30 April 2021 in all regions of the country.
“In 2020, amid a pandemic, our country accomplished what many then thought was impossible. We managed to hold the WorldSkills Russia national final in a remote-face-to-face format, significantly increasing the scale and attention to the importance of developing the professionalism of young specialists.Of course, the experience gained will help us in the future to bring the competition to a new quality level and apply knowledge within the framework of the long-awaited traditional championship, when we will be able to bring the contestants, experts and spectators of the event together on one site of the hospitable Republic of Bashkortostan, and participants from other countries will be able to join the championship. and exchange experience remotely, while in their countries, ”commented Robert Urazov, Director General of the Agency for the Development of Professional Skills (WorldSkills Russia).
The WorldSkills Russia National Final is the largest professional skill competition in Russia according to WorldSkills standards among students of professional educational institutions aged 16 to 25 and representatives of the WorldSkills Juniors direction up to 16 years old. The first competition within the framework of ARMI-2021 – “Sayan March” was held on April 15 and 16 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on the basis of mountain training “Ergaki”.
SUKHUM, April 16 – Sputnik, Badri Yesiava. Servicemen of the Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia completed their participation in the Sayan March at the mountain training base in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on Friday April 16, Lieutenant Colonel of the Abkhaz Army Alyas Vanacha told Sputnik.
The competition consisted of two stages and lasted for two days, during which the teams completed a number of special tasks. The total obstacle route was 50 kilometers. On the first day, the participants overcame a 25-kilometer route, descended from the summit in bundles, fired as part of a group, and descended from a cliff on ropes. In the evening they set up camp in the forest and spent the night there.
“The most difficult test of the first day was the weather. It was just awful. During the preparation period, so much snow did not fall, but here in one day about 70 centimeters of snow fell.There was a very strong blizzard, and the visibility was maximum one and a half meters. This made it difficult for all distances and completing tasks at a time, “said Wanacha.
The teams built huts in the forest and waited for dawn. According to an officer of the Abkhaz army, each participant had everything he needed with him – insulated equipment, a mountain kit, dry rations, and there was also a heating point in the camp. It is forbidden to light fires in that area, as the route runs through the reserve. Despite the discomfort, Vanacha admitted, the Abkhaz team had a cheerful and good mood in the morning.
On the second day of the competition, the weather was not so severe, but the route was more difficult than on the first stage.
“The special tasks of the second day included the planned route, throwing grenades, target reconnaissance, orienteering, climbing to the top according to the time calculation. That is, we looked at the distance on the map and set the time for ourselves to complete the route. According to the rules, overcome this distance it took a minute, “said Vanacha.
The results of the competition will be summed up by the panel of judges on Saturday 17 April.As Wanacha explained, the judges will report the overall results, assessing the performance of each task in points.
The lieutenant colonel of the Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia emphasized the importance of the participation of military personnel in such competitions, since they are gaining a lot of practical experience. The teams showed respect and goodwill to each other, and the organizers provided them with everything they needed.
“Also, the organizers invited us to participate in this competition next year. The opponents were very experienced.Many team members are military personnel of individual units in their countries, who are engaged in mountain training, mountaineering, ski mountaineering. They are experts in their field and serious rivals, “said Vanacha.
In total, within the framework of ARMI-2021, it is planned to hold 34 competitions in 15 countries with the participation of about 95 countries.
