Instructional Videos
Coach Baker has produced a series of instructional videos designed to improve swimmers’ technical and physical performance. These visual aids serve as effective teaching tools for demonstrating and practicing essential skills.
Yoga for Peak Performance
Why is flexibility important for swimmers? Greater flexibility in the shoulders, chest, hips, and ankles allows swimmers to generate more propulsion and move through the water with minimal drag and greater ease.
The Yoga for Peak Performance video, led by professional instructors Theresa and Calvin of College Park Yoga, offers a series of effective yoga postures. These exercises are designed to relax the body and enhance flexibility in as little as 15 minutes a day.
PEAK OUT! Dry-Land Video
Recognizing that swimming alone cannot develop all the necessary physical attributes for elite performance, the PEAK OUT! Dry-Land Training Video targets strength, flexibility, agility, and coordination. This 82-minute video demonstrates five high-energy training circuits that can be performed away from the pool without any equipment.
PEAK Refresher 2.0
Building on the fundamentals covered in Refresher 1.0, the PEAK Refresher 2.0 video introduces elite-level skills not commonly found in other swimming instructional materials. Multiple innovative camera angles enhance the learning experience, presenting skills guaranteed to boost swimming performance.
PEAK Refresher 1.0
This state-of-the-art video vividly illustrates key elements of various swimming techniques, providing a solid foundation for swimmers looking to improve their skills.
Private Coaching Opportunities
For swimmers seeking individualized attention, the camp offers private coaching sessions. These sessions can be purchased in advance with camp registration.
How are private coaching sessions scheduled? Swimmers are assigned appointed dates and times, with the schedule posted at Camp Check-In. It’s important to note that these sessions are scheduled around coaches’ availability between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and may be subject to change due to weather or pool conditions.
The Impact of Holistic Training on Swimming Performance
The Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp’s holistic approach to training sets it apart from traditional swim camps. By combining physical training with mental preparation and technical skill development, the camp aims to create well-rounded athletes capable of excelling in competitive environments.
How does mental preparation contribute to swimming success? Mental toughness and focus are crucial elements in competitive swimming. The camp’s emphasis on mental preparation through simulations and race rehearsals helps swimmers develop the psychological resilience needed to perform under pressure.
What role does technical refinement play in improving swim times? Technical proficiency in all strokes, starts, and turns can significantly impact a swimmer’s speed and efficiency in the water. The camp’s focus on technical refinement ensures that swimmers develop proper form and technique, which can lead to substantial improvements in race times.
By addressing physical conditioning, mental preparation, and technical skills simultaneously, the Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp provides a comprehensive training experience that can accelerate a swimmer’s development and performance in the pool.
Leveraging Technology and Innovation in Swim Training
The Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp incorporates cutting-edge technology and innovative training methods to enhance the learning experience for participants. This forward-thinking approach helps swimmers gain a competitive edge in their sport.
How does video analysis benefit swimmers? Video analysis allows coaches and swimmers to identify areas for improvement that may not be visible to the naked eye during regular training. By reviewing slow-motion footage of their technique, swimmers can make precise adjustments to their form, leading to more efficient movement through the water.
What role do advanced training tools play in swim camp? The camp may utilize tools such as underwater cameras, stroke-rate monitors, and performance-tracking software to provide detailed feedback on swimmers’ progress. These technologies offer objective data that can guide training decisions and help athletes set realistic, measurable goals.
Innovation in swim training extends beyond the pool as well. The camp’s incorporation of dry-land exercises, yoga, and mental preparation techniques demonstrates a commitment to developing well-rounded athletes capable of excelling in all aspects of competitive swimming.
Building a Supportive Swimming Community
One of the less tangible but equally important aspects of the Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp is the sense of community it fosters among participants. This supportive environment can have lasting benefits for young swimmers beyond the duration of the camp.
How does a strong swimming community benefit athletes? A supportive community provides motivation, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Swimmers who feel connected to their peers and coaches are more likely to stay committed to the sport and push themselves to improve.
The camp experience offers opportunities for swimmers to:
- Form friendships with like-minded athletes
- Learn from peers with different backgrounds and skill levels
- Develop communication and teamwork skills
- Gain exposure to diverse coaching styles and perspectives
These social and interpersonal aspects of the camp contribute to the overall growth of swimmers, helping them become not just better athletes, but also more confident and well-rounded individuals.
Nutrition and Recovery: Essential Components of Swim Training
While the Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp primarily focuses on in-pool training and technique, it also recognizes the importance of proper nutrition and recovery in maximizing athletic performance. These elements play a crucial role in supporting the intense training regimen of the camp.
Why is proper nutrition important for swimmers? Swimmers require a balanced diet to fuel their training, support muscle recovery, and maintain overall health. The camp’s provision of all meals ensures that participants receive appropriate nutrition to support their intense training schedule.
Key nutritional considerations for swimmers include:
- Adequate carbohydrate intake for energy
- Sufficient protein for muscle repair and growth
- Proper hydration before, during, and after training
- Balanced meals to support overall health and immune function
How does recovery impact swimming performance? Effective recovery is essential for preventing burnout and injury while allowing swimmers to maintain a high level of performance throughout the camp. The camp’s schedule likely incorporates dedicated recovery time and may include education on recovery techniques such as:
- Proper cool-down routines
- Stretching and flexibility work
- Adequate sleep and rest periods
- Active recovery activities
By addressing nutrition and recovery alongside technical training, the Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp provides a comprehensive approach to swimming excellence that extends beyond the pool.
Translating Camp Experience into Long-Term Success
The ultimate goal of the Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp is to equip swimmers with the skills, knowledge, and motivation to achieve long-term success in their swimming careers. The camp experience is designed to have a lasting impact that extends far beyond the five-day program.
How can swimmers maintain their progress after the camp ends? The camp provides swimmers with a variety of tools and strategies to continue their development, including:
- Personalized feedback and goal-setting guidance
- Access to instructional videos and resources for ongoing learning
- Techniques for self-assessment and improvement
- Strategies for effective training and competition preparation
What long-term benefits can swimmers expect from attending the camp? Participants often experience a range of positive outcomes, including:
- Improved technical proficiency across all strokes
- Enhanced mental toughness and competitive mindset
- Greater confidence in their abilities
- A deeper understanding of the sport and its demands
- Increased motivation to pursue swimming excellence
By providing a comprehensive and immersive experience, the Nike Peak Performance Summer Swim Camp aims to inspire and equip young swimmers with the tools they need to achieve their full potential in the sport. Summer Camp Activities | Keystone South
Keystone South Activities
Many local camps are unilateral, focusing our kids on one activity, sport, or skill. That’s the complete opposite of our dynamic programming at Keystone South! This summer, campers will form deep connections with their stable, consistent camp groups (and two counselors), visiting a programmed schedule of activities, changing every day they come to camp! Sports of all types, performing arts, fine arts, specialized programming, we have it all!
KS is proud to partner with the Carmel Valley Recreational Center!
Keystone South is working hard to develop a swimming program, maintaining all health and safety regulations, in partnership with the Carmel Valley Aquatics Center. We are currently waiting on clearance from county and city officials to go ahead with our program, but at this point we have not been given the official approval for swimming this summer. We are hopeful that we will be given approval in the coming months ahead.
We’re looking to be able to offer campers entering Grade 1 and above (Day Campers) swimming and sliding every-other camp day.
If we are not able to offer swimming this summer, we have a contingency plan in place to expand our on-site activities and programs to ensure more opportunities and activities for our campers.
Stay tuned for more updates, but here is our hopeful plan:
In order to maintain distancing requirements, this summer, campers will take a quick, ten-minute ride in a clean, professionally sanitized bus (maintaining proper distance requirements) and will swim in a controlled environment with plenty of room for FUN! We’ll have the EXCLUSIVE USE of their colossal pool, water play areas, and TWO WATERSLIDES!!
Swimmers are supervised by a Red Cross Certified specialized lifeguard staff each day at the pool. Additionally, group counselors lend another pair of eyes from inside of the pool – organizing games, interacting with swimmers, and making your child’s water experience safe and VERY fun!!
Day campers 48 inches and taller love our two giant waterslides – The “Tornado” and “Cyclone” and can’t agree on which one gives a more “extreme” thrill!
All campers ages 7+ may take a daily “swim test” to give them access to the entire pool area. Campers six and under are supervised in an enormous shallow area, with tons of games and incredible interactions with our staff.
All changing areas are clean, private, and supervised by our exceptional staff. Additionally, only Keystone South campers and staff members are allowed entrance into the Aquatics Center during our visit.
Your child couldn’t have a more compete aquatics experience anywhere!!
On alternate days where kids aren’t swimming, they’ll have more time to create group memories at camp, with an expanded schedule to include 6-7 unique activities daily!

The club’s owner, Di Molenaar, proclaimed, “We aim for the kids to have a good time, meet new friends, learn sportsmanship, and improve their swim and tennis skills in a safe environment.”
Camp Basics
The typical camp is Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but there are also day-to-day drop-off options available. Camps run weekly from June 15 until Aug. 14, and offer tennis-only, swim-only, or a mix of both. Early drop-off and late pick-up are also available to accommodate your family’s schedule. Kids are divided by age and ability, so your child will fit in whether they are a beginner or advanced.
The kids play tennis from 9 to 11 a.m. and have a snack break from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Then the kids get ready for the pool and have free play and swim for 30 minutes until they’re organized into groups for their hour-long swim lesson.
Swimming
Swimming is run by Pacific Swim. Camp coaches are CPR, Lifeguard, and USA Swim Coach-Certified, and have many years of swimming and coaching experience. The Pacific Swim Team has been around since 1993. Not only have they won Junior Olympics Championships, but have consistently placed in the top three teams in San Diego for the past 20 years.
Tennis
Chira Tennis Academy runs the tennis camps. Its director and founder, Catalin Chira, has been a certified tennis professional for the past 20 years. In 2012, Catalin was awarded the USTPA San Diego Coach of the Year, and he is an USPTA-certified Elite Professional, PTR-certified, and Etchberry-certified (strength, conditioning, and movement in tennis). Many of his students reached top national rankings and have received full tennis scholarships.
Having Fun!
The summer camps are designed to provide solid instruction, but there is always room for fun, according to Di Molenaar! Campers play games and also earn prizes on the court and in the pool. Kids can also look forward to smoothies, ice-cream, and pizza that is provided on various days.
