How do EZ removal caps differ from standard caps? They incorporate special tabs or tear-away designs that allow for effortless removal without compromising protection during use.
Selecting the Right Plastic End Cap for Your Application
Choosing the appropriate plastic end cap involves considering several factors to ensure optimal performance and protection. Here are key considerations to guide your selection:
- Material compatibility: Ensure the cap material is compatible with your tubing or pipe material.
- Size and fit: Measure your tubing or pipe accurately to select the correct cap size.
- Environmental factors: Consider temperature, humidity, and exposure to chemicals in your application.
- Duration of use: Determine whether the caps are for temporary shipping protection or long-term storage.
- Removal requirements: For frequent access, consider EZ removal options.
How can you ensure a perfect fit? Always refer to the manufacturer’s sizing charts and, when in doubt, request samples for testing before placing a large order.
Custom Plastic End Caps: Tailoring Solutions to Unique Needs
While stock options cover a wide range of applications, some situations call for custom-designed plastic end caps. Custom solutions offer several advantages:
- Precise fit for non-standard sizes
- Specific material properties (durometer, color, thickness)
- Unique shapes or features for specialized applications
- Branding opportunities through color-matching or logo imprinting
When should you consider custom end caps? If standard options don’t meet your specific requirements or if you need large quantities of a particular design, exploring custom solutions can be both cost-effective and performance-enhancing.

How are these innovations shaping the future of plastic end caps? By addressing specific industry challenges and environmental concerns, these advancements are expanding the applications and improving the overall performance of plastic end caps.
Maintenance and Care of Plastic End Caps
Proper maintenance of plastic end caps can significantly extend their lifespan and ensure continued effectiveness. Here are some tips for caring for your end caps:
- Regular inspection: Check for signs of wear, cracking, or degradation.
- Cleaning: Use mild soap and water to remove dirt and debris.
- Proper storage: Keep unused caps in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Replacement: Replace caps that show signs of damage or no longer fit securely.
How often should you inspect and replace end caps? The frequency depends on the application and environment, but a general rule is to inspect during routine maintenance of the protected items and replace annually or as needed.

the manufacturing process, step by step
Furniture end caps are elements that often go unnoticed. This may be because of how small they are, or due to lack of knowledge about their production, manufacture and uses. Regardless of the reason, the outcome is that end caps have been, and are, frequently under-appreciated.
But for some time now, furniture manufacturers and companies such as FORTAPS, specialising in the manufacture of this type of product, have seen for themselves the added value of using end caps.
Summary of the benefits of end caps for furniture
Furniture end caps have many functions, all of which are highly useful in our day-to-day lives.
Safety
The addition of end caps to certain pieces of furniture serves to ensure the safety of those who use them. Their use is particularly advisable in certain types of stools and chairs. Whether round, square, oval or rectangular, end caps serve to prevent any potential slipping or sliding.
Protection
Apart from the benefit mentioned above, they also serve to protect the surfaces on which they are placed. It is common for furniture usage to involve dragging and shifting which, especially on some floors, can be particularly harmful. The use of the furniture end caps as the contact points for chair and table legs will safeguard floors from being scratched or damaged.
Decoration
Sometimes end caps can also be used simply as decoration. They can be the perfect complement to a well thought-out design. Moreover, the possibility of harnessing customised solutions adds an aesthetic touch to the structure of the furniture.
Levelling of height
Some end caps have a specific application, in addition to those already mentioned. These are levelling feet or adjustable end caps. As their name suggests, they are used to adjust the length of chair and table legs to achieve the desired height.
As you can see, there’s much to be said about the usefulness of furniture end caps. However, it is also important to emphasise that, in order to correctly fulfill all their functions, they must be made to a precise and specific manufacturing process. We’ll tell you about this below.
The manufacture of FORTAPS furniture end caps
At FORTAPS, we work to the quality standards laid down by ISO 9001:2015. Within the scope of this standard, we manufacture a wide variety of end caps: square, rectangular, oval as well as levelling feet. Our output follows a path involving three different stages.
Designing furniture end caps
The design of the pieces is the first and fundamental step in our production. In order to adapt to the various calibres of tubing, outer flanges are used. To ensure the piece can be inserted with only light pressure, a split flange, of smaller diameter, serves to hold it in place. The interior of the pieces is designed with a grooved pattern, to maximise flexibility and enable easier insertion. And, in the large pieces, some inner ribs are added. This enables pressure to be maintained on the tubing, to prevent it from being removed too easily.
Choice of materials
It is important to bear in mind the surfaces on which the end caps will be used, as some materials are more suitable than others, depending on the type of flooring. For example, if the furniture end caps are going to rest on carpet, one should try to ensure that they do not sink in. In this case, the hardest end caps are the most suitable, while if the floor is delicate, rubber end caps make the best choice. At FORTAPS, we are committed to using virgin raw materials, given that they are easier to recycle.
Creation of our own moulds for furniture end caps
Working within the ISO 9001:2015 standard means undertaking our work with our own moulds, designed by ourselves. To this end we use calibrated steels (drawn or turned), this being a viable option for parts that do not require excessive work.
Injecting the parts
Low-density polyethylene is the material we use to inject the pieces. This method consists of injecting the molten material into a closed pressure mould. But high-density polyethylene is also to be found in our production. This is more suitable for parts that require greater rigidity and resistance, such as flanges and threads. And thermoplastic rubber is the material of choice for anti-slip products. In addition, we are committed to the use of recyclable materials.
Finishes
As for the finishes of our pieces, we usually opt for neutral colours, white or black. It is however also possible to use the extensive RAL range of hues, based on groups dominated by a main colour, from which similar tones are derived. Our furniture end caps are for everyone. We work for both individuals and companies in the hospitality industry as well as public and private organisations that require high performance from their furniture: hospitals, schools, etc.

This is why plastic bumper caps are needed – Premier Cars
Why are there plastic plugs on car bumpers?
If you look at the front and rear bumpers of many new cars, you will definitely notice small square, round (or other shapes) little plastic plugs that are integrated directly into the plastic bumpers. Why do you think these elements on the bumper are needed?
For those who know what the plastic plugs in the bumpers are for, I will tell you more about them.
A year earlier, a domestic employee went to the dacha at the end of April in his Mercedes CLA on a rainy Sunday morning. Arriving at the dacha, he decided to drive the car onto the wet and relatively recently freed from snow, the area in front of the house.
As you already realized, the soil in front of the house was all saturated with water from melted rain and snow.As a result, the car easily got stuck, getting stuck in the soil almost to the bottom.
So he needed to look for a tractor in the village in order to get his own car out of the soil. Fortunately, the tractor was found soon.
But where to attach the towing rope? Since the car was not equipped with a tow bar?
In addition, it was unrealistic to attach the cable to the suspension elements, since the car was practically stuck in the mud, and there was no way to crawl under it in order to secure the towing cable.
Fortunately, there is a small plastic cover on the back of the Mercedes CLA located under the bumper.
This is quite interesting: This is what the fine dots around the edges of the car windows are for
This small plastic plug conceals the threaded weld nut that is part of the iron reinforcement (bumper rail). A towing hook is screwed into this threaded connection.
As you can imagine, the towing hook is needed to be able to tow the car on a soft hitch.
Here’s a look at the threaded connection into which the towing hook is screwed:
It should be emphasized that in some modern cars, plastic covers do not cover the threaded connection of the tow hook, but the towing loop built into the bumper reinforcement.
How do you open the plastic cover on the bumper that hides the tow hitch?
To do this, press your finger on the plastic cover on one side in order to remove it from the bumper or turn it to the side (depending on the model and brand of the car).In many cars, the place where you need to apply pressure with your finger is indicated by a small triangle icon.
After removing the cover, you can screw in the towing hook in order to then attach the towing hook to it, or if your machine is equipped with a towing loop right off the bat, after you open the cover, fasten the towing cable.
Where is the tow hook in the car?
If your car is equipped with a towing hook that needs to be screwed into a welded nut hidden behind a plug located on the bumper, then in most cases it is located in the trunk of a car.For example, in the Mercedes S500, the towbar is located where the spare wheel is located: Example below:
And without that, reaching out of the trunk of the towing hook, press your finger on the plastic cover, removing it from the bumper:
By removing the bumper cover, you will have access to the threaded connection, into which you need to screw the towing hook.
It is very easy to screw the towing hook:
In principle, many drivers know what plastic bumper covers are needed for.Especially those who had to tow a modern car.
But has anyone remembered why machine manufacturers use such a response? Because of this, most modern cars have similar plugs on the bumpers.
As well as many sports cars and also expensive supercars.
To deal with this issue in detail, I decided to contact engineers from Nissan, Toyota and others. Here’s what they said:
And without that, in accordance with domestic legislation, machines supplied in the Russian Federation or which are manufactured in Russia should not be necessarily equipped with stationary or removable trailers. But why do we see plastic plugs on the bumpers, hiding the tow hitch, on almost all modern cars?
There are a couple of circumstances that lead machine manufacturers to massively equip most modern machines with similar responses.
Vehicles with low ground clearance have insufficient underside space for an ergonomic hitching of the towing cable to the suspension elements. Especially if the low car gets stuck in the mud. As in the example I described at the beginning of the article.
In addition, the towbar in the rear does not solve this issue, since its low placement, in addition, can result in difficulties with securing the cable if the car, which does not have a huge ground clearance, is stuck in mud or sand.
In addition, equipping modern cars with an anchor towbar with a threaded connection allows you to fix the towing cable without the risk of damaging the bumper of the vehicle, in contrast to the classic method of attaching the towing cable to the car’s suspension. In the latter case, when towing vehicles, there is a risk of damage to the bumper.
And also, the use of tow hooks or towing loops in modern vehicles greatly simplifies the process of attaching the tow rope to the machine.

But there are other circumstances, according to which almost all foreign cars are equipped with plugs on the bumper, which hide behind a towing device.Among them are crossovers as well as many SUVs.
Why equip machines with huge ground clearance with such devices?
The fact is that, in fact, machine manufacturers are obliged to install such towing devices by strict standards of the European Union.
So in accordance with European legislation, all vehicles must be equipped with a towing device from the front and rear.
I decided to check if this is so. Is there really a law in the EU that obliges car companies to equip all vehicles with towing devices.
As a result, using a search in the network, I found the European Commission Order No. 1005, which really strictly regulates the equipping of vehicles produced on the European market with towing towing devices.
Here are excerpts from this order:
- SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1.1. Limit the number of devices.
1.1.1.
All vehicles must have a front mounted towing device.
1.1.2.
Vehicles of category M1 as defined in Directive 2007/46 / EC (Part A of Annex II), in addition, must be equipped with a towing device at the rear.
Please note that category M1 includes cars. Let’s continue …
1.1.3.
The towing device at the rear can be replaced by a mechanical coupling device as clarified by Regulation No. 55 (1) EC
1.2. stability and load
1.2.1.
Each towing device installed on a vehicle must be capable of withstanding tensile and compressive static forces equivalent to at least half of the vehicle’s large loaded mass.
A mechanical coupling towing device is outlined in ECE Document No. 55. So according to this document, the towing coupling device must be part of a monocoque body.
A welded nut that is part of the beam or bumper beam reinforcement also fits this description.
So, as you can see, Europe requires all car manufacturers that sell cars in the European Union to equip them with towing devices for towing. You ask, what does the Russian car market have to do with it?
Since we do not have such standards and manufacturers do not have to equip modern vehicles with such coupling devices.
See also: 100 of the finest sports cars of all time [View from 2017]
Yes, it is.But since most of the foreign cars on the domestic market are also produced for the European car market, almost all car companies do not need to produce vehicles that differ in design from cars supplied to other markets.
Especially if there is no direct specification for these markets. This allows automakers to reduce production costs.
However, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that towing hooks or towing eyes installed on the car, after all, cannot replace a special towing hitch for you.For example, a full-fledged hitch that can withstand enormous loads.
As we indicated above, the hitch, which must be installed by all machine manufacturers on modern machines supplied to the European market, cannot withstand enormous loads. In accordance with the requirements, the device must withstand at least half of the maximum loaded vehicle.
So do not expect any unimaginable characteristics from standard towing devices hidden behind covers in the bumper.Remember that the towbar threaded connection will not be able to withstand the enormous load.
Overloading will damage the welded nut in the booster or bumper member.
So, if you did not know why plastic caps are placed on the bumpers of your car, now you understand that they hide behind themselves a threaded connection into which the tow hook is screwed, or behind them there are standard towing loops installed at the factory …
In addition, you, in addition to this, now understand why, not paying attention to the absence in the Russian Federation of a direct instruction to equip all cars with towing devices, most of the cars still have plastic plugs on the bumpers, behind which the towing device is hidden.
As with your own hands, make a plug in the bumper.
