Hudson Falls High School mourns teen killed in Saturday crash
The Hudson Falls High School community is mourning the loss of a student who passed away following a weekend automobile crash. Our Matt Hunter reports.
HUDSON FALLS, N.Y. – Described by teachers as quiet, smart and respectful, Skylar Wilson belonged to the science club and took advanced placement classes at Hudson Falls High School. On Sunday, the 15-year-old freshman lost her life one day after an automobile accident.
“There isn’t an adult I have talked with that hasn’t mentioned how sweet, smart and quiet and what a great kid she was overall,” said Hudson Falls School District Superintendent Linda Goewey. “It will be a huge loss for our school district.”
According to State Police, Wilson was a passenger in her father’s pickup truck Saturday night when it hit a patch of ice on Mahaffy Road in Argyle, skidded out of control and crashed into a tree. Seated in the backseat and wearing a seatbelt, the young girl was airlifted to Albany Medical Center where she died a day later.
“An accident is a terrible thing but I always think it is so much worse when a child is involved,” Goewey said. “It is hard for everyone.”
Wilson’s father and sister, who’s a senior at the high school, suffered minor injuries. Troopers say no tickets will be issued after determining the crash was caused by an icy roadway.
Goewey says grief counselors and school psychologists have been helping classmates cope with Wilson’s loss.
“Mostly they are sad and they want to talk to somebody about it, they are not used to death, a lot of them,” she said.
In hopes of keeping her daughter’s memory alive, Goewey says Skylar’s mother plans to name a scholarship in honor of her daughter at Hudson Falls High School.
“When something horrible like this happens, you feel like you want to do something,” said Goeway, who added students will wear Skylar’s favorite colors blue and white on Friday and raise funds for the scholarship. “It is like keeping her memory alive for us.”

Meet Skylar Wilson, an Alabama student saved by an AED in her school last October

Skylar Wilson of Muscle Shoals is an active, healthy middle schooler. On October 15, 2018, she experienced sudden cardiac arrest while at school. Her life was saved by an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Alabama LifeStart, a program of Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, is ensuring access to these lifesaving devices in schools across the state. Read more about the program and Skylar’s story.
Skylar’s story

Jessica Wilson, Skylar’s mother, explained that October 15 was a typical day. Skylar rode her bike to school with her twin sister, Sadie. While they were in keyboarding class, Skylar suddenly slumped over in her chair. Before Skylar fell to the floor, Sadie caught her and called for help.
“They immediately pulled the students out of the classroom,” said Wilson. The school nurse, Kelly Word, began performing CPR right away. Before she completed the first round, the school principal arrived with an AED. A shock was administered, and Word continued CPR before paramedics arrived to take Skylar to the hospital. Wilson is convinced that the school’s quick action saved Skylar’s life.
There were no warning signs of the event. Skylar had no medical history, and genetic testing indicated everything with her heart looked normal. “We never thought it would happen to our kid,” said Wilson.
The facts about cardiac arrest
The scary reality is that more than 7,000 children die each year from cardiac arrest, according to the American Heart Association. Without immediate treatment, the survival rate of cardiac arrest is five to ten percent. AEDs increase this rate to 50 percent–that’s a huge difference.
Alabama LifeStart
More than 160 Alabama schools have been recognized as “Heart Safe” by the LifeStart program.

Cris Brown, director of Children’s of Alabama’s LifeStart program, wanted to make sure more AEDs were placed in Alabama schools. He worked with Dr. Yung Lau and Barbara Mostella of UAB to create the program back in 2008.
At the program’s inception, twenty Alabama school systems were without AEDs–that’s hundreds of schools in our state without access. As of 2011, every public middle school, junior high and high school in the state had at least one AED in the building, thanks in large part to Alabama LifeStart. The program was made possible by a grant from Children’s of Alabama and corporate sponsors like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama and Alabama Power.
Why schools need AED training
Not only does Alabama LifeStart provide AEDs, but they also empower schools with training resources. The program encourages schools to adopt AED drills as they do fire drills and other safety exercises. “It’s important that the schools have AEDs, but they have to know what to do with them,” said Brown.
Alabama LifeStart partners with Project ADAM, a nonprofit based out of Wisconsin, to provide AED training resources. A school can be certified as “Heart Safe” by installing an AED and completing training on how to use it, along with several other requirements. Alabama LifeStart provides free AED trainers to schools that want to be certified as “Heart Safe.”
Wilson said the training in her daughter’s school made all the difference. “I commend the school for taking the initiative to have the proper equipment and learn the skills to take care of the kids,” she said.
The impact of Alabama LifeStart
Alabama LifeStart has provided AEDs, AED trainers and resource materials to approximately 400 schools across the state. At least four students’ lives have been saved as a direct result of the Alabama LifeStart program.
An update on Skylar
Skylar and Sadie Wilson. Photo supplied
Skylar is back to her normal middle school activities. She had an AICD (Automatic Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator) device implanted in her heart, but it’s never gone off. In addition to playing a full season of basketball and soccer, she joined her school’s cross-country team. We hear she recently crushed a 5k!

Her sound is a melodic mix of R&B, Pop, Rock and Soul, infused with a splash of sassy attitude. Skyler’s sophomore CD “Touch” is an exhilarating fusion of creative tracks that caress the listener, transforming them into Skyler Jordan devotees. Your emotions will be stirred with title track “Touch,” empowered – with “Time To Go,” your inner Rock Star released with “Nothin” and your “fantasies” set free with “Let It Go.”
On her debut project entitled “Seven,” she offered us a glimpse into her first musical journey from the inspirational opener ”Thank You” to the seductive tones of “Conversation,” the hard truth of “Life Goes On” and the deeply personal title track”Seven. ” “Touch” is the perfect vehicle to continue that journey.
Skyler’s musical career as a background vocalist has afforded her the opportunity to perform around the world. As you listen to her sultry, yet powerful vocals you will recognize her distinctive sound from platinum hits by Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eminem and featured with the late Nate Dogg. Recording as “Barbara Wilson” – she’s recorded with Kenny G, Nine Inch Nails and Pop Legend Stevie Wonder. Other concert tours include Raphael Saddiq, Eric Bene`t, Goapele, the late great Teena Marie and Rock Icons – Boz Scaggs, and Rod Stewart. Skyler has most recently toured with Rock Boy Band – “GIRLS.”
Where does the music come from? It emanates from her soul. Her musical panache shaped by R & B greats Marvin Gaye, Janet Jackson and of course the “Queen of Soul” – Aretha Franklin. Skyler writes songs from a place inside where truth dwells. Skyler divides her time with homes on the east coast and Los Angeles, California.
Skyler’s gift was fist nurtured at the feet of her beloved Grandfather Dr. Sam Lucas – a Baptist Minister at age six. He affectionately called her his “opening act” as she would sing before his sermons each week. Angelica Church.
For sixteen years she lived in Europe with her British husband, John Barker Church, Member of Parliament. She was a prominent member of the social elite wherever she lived, including Albany and New York, as well as Paris and London. Some of her correspondence with distinguished friends has been preserved, including with Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and the Marquis de Lafayette.
The village and surrounding town of Angelica, New York, were named after her.
1.The Early Years
Angelica Skyler was born in Albany, New York. She was the eldest child of Philip Skyler and his wife, Catherine van Rensselaer. Her parents were from wealthy Dutch families, known from the early colonial days. She had seven siblings who survived to adulthood, including Elizabeth Skyler Hamilton and Margarita “Peggy” Skyler van Rensselaer.
Angelica came of age during the Time of Troubles leading up to the American Revolution. Due to her father’s title and political standing, the Skylar home in Albany was the site of many gatherings and war councils, where she met many prominent political figures.
2. Personal life
One of the visitors to the Skylar home in 1776 was John Barker Church 1748 – 1818, a British merchant who became rich during the war, supplying the American and French armies. During their meeting and subsequent courtship, Church was on a mission from the Continental Congress to check the army’s supply records. Knowing that her father would not bless their marriage due to his suspicions about Church’s past, Angelica fled with John in 1777.They had eight children:
Philip Skyler Church 1778-1861, served as Hamilton’s adjutant; married Anna Matilda Stewart 1786–1865, daughter of General Walter Stewart; and was the founder of the Erie Canal and the Erie Railroad.
Catherine “Kitty” Church 1779-1839
Elizabeth Matilda Church 1783-1867, married Rudolph Banner 1779-1837
John Barker Church, Jr. 1781-1865
Richard Hamilton Church 1785-1786
Alexander Church 1803.
Richard Stephen Church 1798 – 1889, married Grace Church.
Angelica Church 1800.
2.1. Personal life Relationship with Hamilton
There is some speculation that Angelica may have had an affair with Alexander Hamilton, the husband of her younger sister, Elizabeth. However, these are only assumptions and the question remains more than open.
3.Life in Europe
In 1783, Angelica and her family left for Europe, where they remained for 16 years, apart from brief visits to America.
From 1783 to 1785, Angelica and her family lived in Paris while John served as US envoy to the French government. Angelica never stopped charming the famous, intelligent men she dated, and she soon became friends with Benjamin Franklin in Paris. She also developed long-term friendships with Thomas Jefferson and the Marquis de Lafayette.
John and Angelica returned to America in May 1797 to visit their families. Then they finally returned to New York in 1799.
4. Death
Angelica Church died on March 6, 1814 in New York. She was buried in the Trinity Church cemetery in New York, not far from her younger sister Elizabeth and her husband.
After the death of Angelica, John returned to his homeland in England, where he died on April 27, 1818.

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, USA, 2014
Director – Sean Levy
Cast: Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Skyler Gizondo, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ben Kingsley, Ricky Gervais, Dan Stevens, Rebel Wilson
Duration – 98 min.
Children of movie stars need to eat – and children of viewers need to watch silly children’s movies; it seems that the logic that dictates the appearance of films like “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” is exhausted by such concepts. At least, it is rather problematic to consider any other motives in the finished film.
Over the two previous issues made by the same team, Night at the Museum has not only honed its own intonation of a funny special-effect mess with historical characters, but also managed (not the first time) to achieve some resemblance to a real live movie, and not just another studio product, painted in the marketing department. The third “Night” is such a collective resting on its laurels, an encore with a complete repetition of the number that has already been worked out; After all, since this is what you already liked, then why change something, right?
“Secret of the Tomb” rewinds time back to the place where ordinary night watchman Larry Daley only had to learn how to handle the objects that come to life. In the new film, the magical Egyptian plate, thanks to which everything in the museum came to life, begins to junk – so you need to take it to London, where the mummy of the pharaoh, who understands the technology of the plate, is kept.New museum – respectively, new exhibits and old difficulties; again you have to tame another dinosaur skeleton, again run through the works of art, and at the same time solve new paternal problems, this time with an already grown-up son. The “secret of the tomb” seems to mechanically sort out the notions of the past parts and shuffle them in random order, muttering under his breath “Well, you want this, right?” – here’s a pissing monkey, here’s a freaking Stiller, here’s the tiny problems of a tiny duo of a cowboy and a centurion, here’s visual gags built on the repeated repetition of the same plans, inserted as if purely to stretch the timing.
Moments of real inspiration occasionally occur here – for example, when the revived statue of the knight Lancelot invades the production of the musical Camelot with Hugh Jackman – but overall, The Secret of the Tomb is characterized by rather strained fun; it can be seen that people are a little tired of pulling this strap. This also applies to director Levy, and in particular Stiller – playing the comic role of his own prehistoric double is still at least somewhat interesting to him, but the main character, an ordinary guy among all the special-effect madness, clearly does not cause any enthusiasm in him.If the authors themselves cannot hide in any way that they are not at all delighted with their own brainchild, it will be difficult for the audience of the third Night at the Museum to experience any other emotions about it.
Verdict – a mechanical and tired continuation of a special-effect family saga about living museum exhibits

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
From the point of view of a family movie that you can go to without harm to your mental health on New Year’s holidays, the third “Night at the Museum” is probably the best fit.At the same time, the idea exhausted itself even on the first film, and the further – the more characters appear and the plot becomes more boring.
This time, events are developing not only in the New York Museum of Natural History, but also in the British Museum of Natural History, which is located in London. The ancient Egyptian gold plate, thanks to which the museum comes to life at night, is beginning to lose its strength. Then the night watchman Larry Daley ( Ben Stiller ) and his friends-exhibits decide to go to Albion in order to find out the cause of what is happening.
The cast has not changed. In addition to Stiller, there will be Owen Wilson as the Jedidiah cowboy, Steve Coogan as the Roman soldier Octavius, Ricky Gervais as Dr. McPhee, curator of the Museum of Natural History, and Robin Williams , who again played Theodore Roosevelt. This role was the last for the actor.
New characters include Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as Sir Lancelot, Rebel Wilson (Hen Party in Vegas) as the guardian of the Tilly Museum in London and Ben Kingsley as the Egyptian Pharaoh.
Critics and viewers were divided into two camps: those who want an interesting story yawn the second film in a row, and the rest enjoy the acting and the visual component. If history is more important to you, you can safely walk by.

Big Eyes
The film is based on a true story. In the late 50s and early 60s, America went crazy over paintings in which people and animals were depicted with disproportionately large eyes. Their author was Margaret Keane , but this became known much later. All the glory was taken by her tyrannical husband Walter, who actually did not know how to draw. While in public with his head held high, he compared himself with Rembrandt and El Greco, Margaret had to endure his humiliation. In 1965, she managed to get a divorce, but it was only in 1986 that the former spouses were asked to draw pictures right in the courtroom to prove her authorship. Margaret coped without any problems, and Walter referred to a pain in his shoulder and in the end lost the case with a miserable amount.
Quite a common story for the greedy storyteller Tim Burton , although if you remember how stylish and captivating he told about the inept director Ed Wood, all the seeming simplicity will disappear by itself.Plus, he was clearly tired of pure fantasy – you yourself saw both “Alice …” and “Dead Shadows”, even “Frankenweenie” looked on the machine – so the director should have benefited from the distraction to a down-to-earth story. And Johnny Depp was worth a break.
Burton is a longtime fan of Margaret Keane’s work. For the director, Keane painted both Lisa Mary and Helena Bonham Carter with his son at the age of 3.
The film has been in development since 2007.The script was written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karatsevski (Ed Wood, The Man in the Moon, The People vs. Larry Flynt), they were also supposed to direct the film in the summer of 2008 with Keith Hudson and by Thomas Hayden Church starring. However, due to the danger of a strike by performers Big Eyes , it was decided to postpone until they had new contracts with new terms with the Actors Guild.
In September 2010, Tim Burton joined the film as a producer, and the roles were assigned to Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds .However, nothing has grown together here either. In 2013, Burton himself took the helm of the project, the main roles went to Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz , and The Weinstein Company took over the financing and distribution of the film.
Critics and viewers liked Big Eyes. “Well played out, thought-provoking and a breath of fresh air for Burton, Big Eyes works both as a biopic and social commentary that is relevant anytime,” , writes RottenTomatoes.I would like to believe that this is indeed the case.
