SMASH is a FREE, STEM-intensive, fully residential, college preparatory program for underrepresented high school students of color. SMASH boasts a 5-week, 3-year summer STEM enrichment program which provides access to both rigorous coursework and supportive mentors, role models, and students of color support networks. SMASH scholars remain engaged during the school year through monthly STEM activities and workshops. The program not only reinforces our scholars’ STEM academic identities, but also focuses on developing their critical thinking, civic awareness, leadership, and sense of social responsibility. In addition, after completing the program, SMASH Alumni have an opportunity to participate in a paid, 5 week internship at a tech company! Exploring Engineer STEM Academy is a Coed High School Camp now in its 20th Year on the GT Campus is sponsored by the Atlanta Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, We continue to grow with over 75 boys and girls primarily from the metro Atlanta area, however we get students from the entire country. Students are mentored and chaperoned by experienced Professional Engineers, they experience living in the dorms and eating at campus dining halls on the Georgia Tech campus, one of the most prestigious campus in the country. Their very full schedule comprises of participating on many hands-on engineering activities and tours of the many Tech Laboratories as well as visiting many of Atlanta’s premier state-of-the-art engineering research facilities. This free summer academy for middle school girls held at Emory University focuses on real data from cancer patients and how to discover what causes cancer. The students will learn about cancer, how new data is generated, and how these super huge datasets (big data) are mined. It is not a coding camp. Takes place over a 2-week session (June) or 1-week session (July) and is led by Emory scientists and staff.

CDC Museum Disease Detective Camp (DDC) is an interdisciplinary educational program organized by the CDC Museum. DDC reflects the museum’s mission of educating the public about CDC’s work. This academic day camp is held at CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Admission is open to high-school students during the summer before their junior or senior years (student must be 16 years old by first day of camp). Over the course of five days, campers are immersed in the diverse field of public health
Topics vary year to year, but may include: public health interventions, global health, infectious disease, chronic disease, injury prevention, data analysis, surveys, school wellness programs, violence prevention, environmental health, emergency preparedness, outbreaks, scientific communication, laboratory technology, disease surveillance, epidemiology, and public health law. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have changed our Summer of Science camp offerings to reflect current local, federal, and CDC guidelines.
Here’s what we’re changing and ramping up to make sure your camper stays safe, happy, and healthy this summer:
- We can’t care for children who have had a fever or have been on fever reducing medications in the 24 hours before drop off
- To avoid cross contamination, each classroom will be limited to ten students, and students will not have interactions with any other classrooms during the day. After an area has been used, we are trying to have a team member sanitize the area before another class enters the space
- We will require everyone on our team to pass a State of Missouri background check and to complete our child-safety training program
- We are monitoring classes and children as they move through the Center with the goal that your children are only ever interacting with our staff, their teachers, and their class of 10 other students
- All teachers are required to ensure children are washing their hands for 20 seconds with soap and water before eating. Hand sanitizer is not the primary way we’ll be cleaning hands, but we will be using it
- We’re going to try and provide our awesome Science of Germs program to each class to teach them how to properly wash their hands using Glo-Germ and a black light through experiential learning. It’s also super fun, memorable, and engaging
- Summer camp registrations have a no cancellation policy. Refunds can only be issued as Discovery Center credits for annual memberships or for a future summer camp.
- Effective immediately, students attending the Summer of Science or the Discovery School at the Center who are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination will no longer be required to wear a mask while inside their classrooms

Before & After Care

The Discovery Center is offering before and after care for every camp! Campers can be dropped off starting at 7:30 am and must be picked up by 5:30 pm. Price includes before and after care for all days of the designated camp.
Camp Descriptions
Adventures in Action (ages 7-9): Your kid will put down their screens and let off some steam in this hyperactive adventure camp with a week of action-packed exploration. This camp is designed for kids that need to just keep going and going with a NERF obstacle course, HighWire bike rides, interactive games, and astronaut training.
Astronomy Adventures (ages 6-7): Is NASA or SpaceX in your kid’s future? Help them become an amateur astronomer and explore the wonders of space to prepare them for their future profession. Your camper will investigate the stars, comets, planets, and galaxies through hands-on science experiments and create their own constellation, planet, and moon. They’ll build a LEGO space station and space tools before heading outside to observe the sky.
CSI Academy (ages 7-9): Your camper will study crime scene investigation to see if they have what it takes to be a criminologist. Develop your child’s observation and critical thinking skills to process “evidence” through fingerprinting, blood typing, blood spatter analysis, DNA extraction, in this super sleuth camp.
Dinosaur Hunters (ages 5-6): Get ready to go back in geological time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Your young paleontologist will dig for fossils, make a fossil, learn about these gigantic prehistoric creatures, and become familiar with the landforms that shaped the Earth.
Escape to Space (ages 5-9): Strap in and get ready to blast off for a week in the stars. Your camper will have an out-of-this-world experience exploring the moon, planets, and all the things that make our solar system great by taking part in our rocket challenge and learning how scientists launch rockets into space and land safely on other planets.
Esports Gamer Tournament (ages 12-14): Get ready to be the ultimate gamer this week in our Esports tournament. Your gamer will create and play their own game, discover the ins and outs of game creation, world building and compete at various types of games to see who is the ultimate gamer. Bring your own gaming console to plug into our big screens or share one at the Center.
Esports Training Camp (ages 9-11): Get in the zone and let the games begin! This week campers will investigate what it takes to create their own game by exploring everything from board games, choose your own adventure games to video games, as they design a game themselves with introductory coding. Bring your own gaming console to plug into our big screens or share one at the Center.
LEGO My Duplo (ages 5-7) : Their little hands will build big things! Junior builders will be encouraged to create LEGO and Duplo worlds based on their favorite storybook and Pixar characters. This week campers will discover the science behind world building, make snow like Elsa, wreck it like Ralph, and explore the world of movies.
LEGO Robotics (ages 7-11): Enter the wonderful world of LEGO! This week campers will explore LEGO robots as we design, build and program our own creations. We’ll take it to the next level and tackle architecture design challenges and construct large structures with life-size LEGO bricks.
Mando Exploration (ages 9-11): We’re exploring the stars in a camp fit for the bravest of space adventurer. Learn the way of the Mandalore and bring honor to the clan as we build LEGO themed space tools, learn about our solar system and train to survive in space.
Mess It Up (ages 5-6): Let your kid be a kid for a week! Clean hands are not required, so let’s get messy! Explore the outdoors by digging in the dirt, learning about farm animals, and meeting our creepy crawlies. Explore all things ooey–gooey through the making of slime, mudpies, and bouncy balls. Dress in clothes that can get stained and get ready to get messy with explosive fizzy science.
Mini Med School (ages 7-14): Scrub in and glove up because we are going to med school! This week campers will explore and compare the anatomy of living creatures while learning about the structure and function of the human body. We’ll learn to use lab equipment most people don’t typically see until medical school and analyze the similarities between the species by dissecting a different organism each day.
NERF-ology (ages 5-11): Launch your child’s imagination through the science of flight as they take on our NERF battle obstacle course, dissect a NERF gun, and learn how the physics of projectiles and flight patterns help scientists plan flight missions every day. Your NERF-enthusiast is encouraged to bring their own foam-based weaponry or borrow from the Discovery Center’s vast collection.
Pirates of Discovery (ages 6-7): This is the place for your little ocean lover. We’ll put the wind in our sail and feel the saltwater on our faces as we explore the finite resource that covers over 70% of planet Earth. Take a dive underwater and learn the difference between sharks and bony fish, discover mythical marine creatures like mermaids and krakens, and study the sunken treasures of the seafloor.
School of Wizarding (ages 7-9): Take flight into the world of wizards and discover the magic of science, how to care for magical creatures, and the art of making potions. Your camper will be sorted into a house, make a wand, attend potions class, astronomy, and herbology.
Smartest Artist (ages 6-7): Your little artist will make art fizzle, crackle, and pop by exploring various art forms, states of matter, and the beauty in rearranging atoms to make different things. Dress in clothes that can get stained to make fluffy slime, fingerpaint with flower petals, make a crayon from soil, and create bubble art.
STEAM Camp (ages 5-12): Help your young scientist discover the wonders of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) through dynamic science experiments, hands-on tech time, and 3D design. We’ll ignite their curiosity by designing and building 3D models, discovering if trash can power a cellphone, trying their hand at our drone obstacle course, painting with bacteria, reengineering the cardiovascular system, and making gummy bears explode!
Survivor School (ages 9-11): Pull up a chair and grab your gear because we’re going to Survivor School. Your camper will discover what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse, learn the folklore of zombies throughout history, how to forage through catastrophic Earth or Mars conditions, and problem solve different plans to survive various hypothetical events that could occur in the future of the human race.
Teddy Bear Veterinarians (ages 5-9): Put on a lab coat and get ready to scrub in! Your little camper will learn what it takes to work in the world of medicine through hands on activities like wrapping a sprain and identifying broken bones. Bring in a favorite toy to fix up in our teddy bear clinic, learn how to find a pulse and discover how to keep our bodies strong.

When funds are available, the Discovery Center is able to award full funding for students who qualify to attend workshops at no cost to their families. To be eligible, please submit the following form by clicking on the Apply here button below. Scholarships are awarded on a first come/first served basis, and completion of the form does not guarantee funding. You will be notified via email if funding is available. Pre-registration & pre-payment are required. Once processed, you will receive an email confirmation. If you think you have registered and have not received an e-mail confirmation within 24-48 hours, please contact us.
Students attending camps must bring a sack lunch, snack, and drink to camp each day.
Any children with on-going behavior problems that disrupt the learning environment will be excused from the class without refund. Please let us know of any special learning or behavior issues so we can provide additional resources for your child when necessary.
If a parent or authorized pick-up person does not arrive by 5 minutes past the designated pick up time, staff will begin to call emergency contacts for your child. Continued disregard for the pick-up time can be cause for dismissal from the program with no refund or you may be billed for extended care.
Summer camp registrations have a no cancellation policy. Refunds can only be issued as Discovery Center credits for annual memberships or for a future summer camp.
Camps are limited to 10 campers. Courses with fewer than 8 campers who are enrolled 7 days prior to the start of the session may be subject to cancellation. In this instance, we will contact you immediately to discuss further options.

To comply with CDC guidelines, drop-off and pickup protocols must be strictly followed. Due to updated capacity,
participants must wait outside until escorted inside by staff. Check-in will begin no earlier than 8:45 a.m. and
dismissal begins at 4 p.m. (contact us if you need to arrange early pickup). Participants must be picked up by no
later than 4:15 p.m. and staff will bring children outside to meet their approved adults. We regret that before- and
after-care is not available at this time. Participants must bring their own snacks and lunches and eat at designated
times (allergies can be accommodated; no option for refrigeration or purchase of food available). Children must be
at least 6 years old by their first day of camp.
Digital paperwork and permission forms will be sent after payment. Full camp balance is due at time of registration.
Refund requests made before June 18 may be accommodated, minus a $100 per week nonrefundable deposit. After June 18,
no refunds will be given, but campers may be able to register for a different camp session, pending space

Campers will receive one free camp shirt upon registration. Campers who register for two or more weeks will receive a
second free shirt. Additional shirts may be purchased onsite for $10 each. Please indicate shirt size in the

How are we keeping kids and staff safe during Academy Science Camp?
Safety is our number one priority; program plans have been evaluated and approved by health and safety officers at
Drexel University. All museum spaces adhere to strict CDC guidelines governing room capacity and air exchange. Each
group is made up of no more than 10 children with two staff, and each group stays together all day in spaces large
enough to maintain more than six feet of distance. Museum galleries are reserved for groups during public hours.
Lunchtime is held outdoors, and registrants provide their own lunches. Social distancing and mask wearing are
mandatory, and there are frequent handwashing and cleaning breaks, per state and federal recommendations. All staff

Pillars: Exploring the Roots of American Order — July 19–23 (Full Day)

A partnership with the The Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal
At a time when American history is contested on many fronts it is important to understand
the essential beliefs and institutions that hold America together. As such, the new
“Pillars” conference for high school students and select teachers traces the origins
of the American tradition of order, justice and freedom through Hebraic and Christian
belief, classical philosophy and law, British political experience, and the ideas
and institutions of colonial and early-republican America. Over the course of the
conference, speakers will explore these themes through the significance of five cities:
Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, London and Philadelphia.
PYTHON AND RASPBERRY PI PROGRAMMING — June 28–July 2

Coordinating Council.

There are 3 detachments in the camp, each of which will specialize in one of the sciences. Until lunchtime, the guys will conduct scientific research with their own hands, and for the afternoon we have planned scientific excursions and guest classes in the laboratories of the adjacent detachments.
The leaders of the detachment are practicing doctors from the 4th City Clinical Hospital, the residents of the Russian National Research Medical University named after V.I.Pirogov (2nd honey). All of them are well known to you from our scientific shows “Anatomy”, “A Day in the Life of a Hospital” and “Sense Organs”.
The medical shift in our camp is a complete immersion in the profession of a doctor. We will learn to diagnose and choose the right methods of treatment, provide first aid and perform surgical operations, and study the cells of the human body under a microscope. If your child claims to want to be a doctor, this is the best way to check if they are serious.
Direction “Biology”
The leaders of the detachment are the authors of our shows “The Kingdom of Animals” and “The Nobel Prize”, graduates of the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University. Lomonosov, employees of specialized research institutes.
The main theme of the “Biology” session is life in all its manifestations. We will look for unusual forms of living things in familiar places, find out if Darwin was right about everything, and grow colonies of friendly bacteria. An ideal choice for those who have a keen interest in herbariums, insects and all our smaller, flying, crawling and greening brothers.
Direction “Chemistry + Physics”. The leaders of the detachment are the authors of our shows “Scientific New Year” and “The Fifth Element”, graduates and employees of the Faculty of Chemistry of Moscow State University. Lomonosov. Chemistry and physics are the sciences on which modern natural science is based. Syntheses of new substances, launching chemical-powered rockets, modeling natural phenomena and dozens of scientific experiments. A session for those who like to understand how our world works.
Children will have lunch in a cafe in the main building of the cultural center.Lunch consists of salad, soup and hot. In addition, we have provided light snacks. We travel to all outbound events in a modern comfortable bus. The total number of children in one shift is 22 people. Afternoon classes will be hosted by our regular science show hosts. On excursions, they will be assisted by researchers from relevant organizations.

The son has been driving for the second year already.In 2018, they were located on Yaroslavka, where the territory was worse and the living conditions were simpler.
