Who was Sarah Malinda Pritchard Blalock. How did she become a Confederate soldier. What role did she play in the Civil War. Why is her story significant in American history.
The Remarkable Tale of Sarah Malinda Pritchard Blalock
Sarah Malinda Pritchard Blalock, born around 1840, stands out as one of the most intriguing figures of the American Civil War. Her story is a testament to the complexities of loyalty, gender roles, and survival during one of the most tumultuous periods in U.S. history.
Early Life and Marriage
Malinda was born in Caldwell County, North Carolina, to Alfred and Elizabeth Pritchard. She married William McKesson “Keith” Blalock, and the couple was living near Grandfather Mountain in Watauga County when the Civil War erupted in 1861.
A Woman in Disguise: Malinda’s Enlistment in the Confederate Army
On March 20, 1862, Keith Blalock, despite being a Unionist at heart, enlisted in the Confederate Army with the intention of deserting to Federal lines. In an extraordinary act of devotion and courage, Malinda decided to follow her husband into service.
- Malinda cut her hair short
- Donned men’s clothing
- Assumed the alias “Sam”
- Enlisted alongside Keith in Company F, Twenty-sixth Regiment, North Carolina Troops
How did Malinda manage to pass as a male soldier? She was described as “a good looking boy aged 16, weight about 130 pounds, height five feet four inches.” For four months, Malinda performed all the duties expected of a Confederate soldier, becoming “very adept at learning the manual and drill.”
The Challenges of Maintaining a Secret Identity
Maintaining her disguise wasn’t without its challenges. Malinda had to navigate the close quarters of camp life, sharing a tent with her “brother” Keith. She skillfully avoided situations that might expose her true identity, such as declining invitations to go swimming with fellow soldiers.
The Plan Unravels
Keith’s original plan to desert to Union lines proved more difficult than anticipated. Realizing the need for a new strategy, he decided to obtain a discharge from the Confederate Army. How did he manage this? Keith ingeniously contracted a severe rash by deliberately exposing himself to poison oak or poison sumac.
Following Keith’s discharge on April 20, 1862, Malinda revealed her true identity and was immediately discharged as well.
From Soldiers to Fugitives: Life on Grandfather Mountain
After their discharge, the Blalocks found themselves in a precarious situation. Keith was soon sought after as a fraudulently discharged deserter by Confederate authorities. How did they evade capture?
- The couple took refuge in a hut on Grandfather Mountain
- They were joined by other deserters, forming a small community of fugitives
- They engaged in skirmishes with conscription officers and home guardsmen
A Shift in Allegiance: Joining the Union Cause
Following a confrontation with Confederate forces, Keith and Malinda fled to Tennessee. Their journey didn’t end there, however. How did they continue to support the Union cause?
- Keith became a recruiter for a Michigan regiment
- The couple joined the partisan unit of George W. Kirk
- They returned to North Carolina as Union guerrillas
Guerrilla Warfare in the Mountains
The year 1864 saw the Blalocks deeply involved in the brutal guerrilla warfare that characterized the conflict in the Appalachian region. What roles did they play in this phase of the war?
- Both Keith and Malinda participated actively in guerrilla raids
- They became embroiled in personal vendettas typical of the mountain war
- Keith served as a guide for Confederate deserters and Unionists escaping to Federal lines in Tennessee
During one of these skirmishes, Malinda was wounded, further highlighting the dangers they faced in their guerrilla activities.
The Significance of Sarah Malinda Blalock in Civil War History
Why is Sarah Malinda Blalock’s story so significant in the annals of Civil War history? Her experiences offer a unique perspective on several aspects of the conflict:
- Gender roles and expectations in 19th-century America
- The complexities of loyalty in border states and regions
- The brutal nature of guerrilla warfare in the Appalachian mountains
- The often-overlooked stories of women’s direct participation in combat during the Civil War
Malinda Blalock stands out as North Carolina’s only known female Civil War soldier, making her story particularly noteworthy in the state’s history.
Breaking Barriers and Challenging Norms
How did Malinda’s actions challenge the societal norms of her time? By disguising herself as a man and serving alongside her husband, she defied the traditional gender roles that limited women’s participation in military affairs. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse experiences of women during the Civil War, many of which have been overlooked in traditional historical narratives.
The Blalocks’ Legacy: A Testament to Loyalty and Survival
The story of Keith and Malinda Blalock is more than just a tale of wartime adventure. It’s a testament to the strength of their relationship and their commitment to survival in the face of tremendous adversity. How did their experiences during the war shape their later lives?
While the available information doesn’t provide details about their post-war lives, it’s clear that the Blalocks’ wartime experiences must have had a profound impact on their perspectives and relationships. Their story raises intriguing questions about how Civil War veterans, particularly those with complicated loyalties, reintegrated into society after the conflict.
Preserving the Blalock Story
How has the unique story of the Blalocks been preserved and shared over time? Their experiences have been documented by historians and have become part of the rich tapestry of Civil War lore. The preservation of stories like theirs helps to provide a more complete and nuanced understanding of the Civil War era, moving beyond the experiences of generals and politicians to illuminate the lives of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances.
Reflections on Gender, Identity, and War
The story of Sarah Malinda Blalock invites us to reflect on broader themes related to gender, identity, and the nature of war. How does her experience challenge our understanding of women’s roles in 19th-century America?
Malinda’s decision to disguise herself as a man in order to follow her husband into war speaks to the limited options available to women who wished to actively participate in the conflict. It also highlights the lengths to which some women were willing to go to remain close to their loved ones during wartime.
The Fluidity of Loyalty in Border Regions
The Blalocks’ story also provides insight into the complex nature of loyalty in border states and regions during the Civil War. How did living in the Appalachian region of North Carolina influence their allegiances?
Their initial enlistment in the Confederate Army, followed by their later support for the Union cause, reflects the divided loyalties that were common in border areas. The mountainous region of western North Carolina, with its distinct cultural and economic characteristics, often had different political leanings from the rest of the state, contributing to the complexity of allegiances during the war.
The Harsh Realities of Guerrilla Warfare
The Blalocks’ involvement in guerrilla warfare in the later stages of the conflict sheds light on a less-discussed aspect of the Civil War. How did guerrilla tactics impact communities in the Appalachian region?
Guerrilla warfare often blurred the lines between military conflict and personal vendettas, leading to a cycle of violence that could tear communities apart. The Blalocks’ participation in these activities highlights the brutal and personal nature of the war in mountainous regions, where traditional military engagements were less common.
The Role of Guides and Partisans
Keith Blalock’s role as a guide for escaping Confederates and Unionists underscores the importance of local knowledge in navigating the challenging terrain of the Appalachian mountains. How did individuals like Keith contribute to the larger war effort?
By helping deserters and Unionists escape to Federal lines, guides like Keith played a crucial role in undermining Confederate control of the region and bolstering Union forces. Their intimate knowledge of the landscape and local communities made them invaluable assets in the irregular warfare that characterized the conflict in the mountains.
Sarah Malinda Blalock: A Symbol of Civil War Complexity
In many ways, Sarah Malinda Blalock serves as a symbol of the complexities and contradictions of the Civil War era. Her story encapsulates themes of gender roles, regional identity, shifting loyalties, and the brutal realities of guerrilla warfare. How does her experience contribute to our broader understanding of the Civil War?
By examining stories like Malinda’s, we gain a more nuanced and comprehensive view of the conflict. Her experiences remind us that the Civil War was not just a series of grand battles and political decisions, but a deeply personal conflict that affected individuals and communities in profound and often unexpected ways.
The Importance of Individual Stories in Historical Understanding
Why are individual stories like that of Sarah Malinda Blalock important in our study of history? These personal narratives provide a human dimension to historical events, allowing us to connect more deeply with the past and understand the real-world impact of large-scale conflicts on ordinary people.
The Blalock story also serves as a reminder of the diverse experiences of women during the Civil War. While many women supported the war effort through traditional means such as nursing or managing households and farms in the absence of men, others, like Malinda, took more direct and unconventional roles in the conflict.
Lessons from the Blalock Story for Modern Times
What lessons can we draw from the story of Sarah Malinda Blalock that remain relevant today? Her experiences offer several insights that resonate with contemporary issues:
- The strength and resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity

Blalock, Sarah Malinda Pritchard and William McKesson (“Keith”)
By W. T. Jordan, Jr., 1979
1840-1901
Blalock, Sarah Malinda Pritchard (ca. 1840–9 Mar. 1901) , and William McKesson (“Keith”) (ca. 1838–11 Aug. 1913), were Confederate soldiers. Malinda Blalock, North Carolina’s only known female Civil War soldier, was the daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth Pritchard of Caldwell County and the wife of Keith Blalock, with whom she was living at or near Grandfather Mountain in Watauga County when the war began in 1861. On 20 Mar. 1862, Keith, although a convinced Unionist, enlisted in the Confederate Army (Company F, Twenty-sixth Regiment, North Carolina Troops), with the intention of deserting to Federal lines. Malinda cut her hair, donned men’s clothing, assumed the name of “Sam,” and enlisted with her husband. She was described as “a good looking boy aged 16[?], weight about 130 pounds, height five feet four inches.” For the next four months she “did all the duties of a soldier” and was reportedly “very adept at learning the manual and drill.” She tented with her “brother” Keith at the regimental camp near Kinston; opportunities to go swimming with other members of the company were declined.
After several weeks of duty at Kinston it became apparent to Keith that his plan to desert could not be realized immediately, and he decided to obtain a discharge. This was granted on 20 Apr. 1862, as a result of a severe rash that he contracted by rubbing his body with poison oak or poison sumac. Malinda thereupon disclosed the fact that she was a woman and was “immediately discharged.” She and Keith, who was soon being sought as a fraudulently discharged deserter by Confederate authorities, then lived for a time in a hut on Grandfather Mountain, where they were joined by several other deserters. Following a fight with conscription officers and home guardsmen who attempted to apprehend the group, Keith fled with Malinda to Tennessee, where he became a recruiter for a Michigan regiment. Shortly thereafter the Blalocks joined the partisan unit of George W. Kirk and returned to North Carolina. Both Keith and Malinda played an active role in the guerrilla raids and personal vendettas that characterized the war in the mountains in 1864, and Keith served also as a guide for Confederate deserters and Unionists who sought to make their way through the mountain passes to Federal lines in Tennessee. Malinda was wounded in a skirmish during this period, and in another engagement Keith was wounded and blinded in one eye. In February 1865, Keith’s stepfather, Austin Coffey, was murdered by Confederate sympathizers, and in February of the following year Keith shot and killed a man he believed had been involved in Coffey’s death. Keith was apprehended shortly thereafter, but before he could be brought to trial he was pardoned by Republican Governor William W. Holden.
In later years the Blalocks farmed in Mitchell County and, for a time, “attempted merchandising.” They resided in the Linville area, which became part of Avery County when the latter was formed in 1911. In 1874, Keith presented himself as a Mitchell County Republican candidate for the state legislature but was defeated. He and Malinda moved to Texas in 1892 or thereabouts; however, they subsequently returned to Mitchell County. Malinda died a natural death, but Keith was killed while operating a handcar on a mountain railroad. He was at the time a resident of Hickory. The Blalocks had at least four children: Columbus (b. ca. 1863), John (b. ca. 1869), Willie (b. ca. 1873), and Samuel (b. ca. 1877).

Taylor’s Takes: Broadcasters and Analysts Elevating the Women’s Game
Tue Mar 30 2021 | Taylor Cummings | College
PHOTO COURTESY OF OHIO STATE ATHLETICS
Chloe Johnson secured 19 draws combined in two upset wins over Penn State this past weekend.
Taylor Cummings is a three-time Tewaaraton winner, a member of Team USA and the head coach at McDonogh (Md.) . “Taylor’s Takes” is presented by Gait Lacrosse. Be legendary.
Listening to Rachael DeCecco call the Ohio State-Penn State game on Friday was exactly what I needed to start my weekend off right. Having a woman in the booth who has not only played lacrosse at the highest levels possible, but who can also articulate the strategies and nuances of the game for viewers is critical to the growth of our sport.
Rachael was able to explain to viewers what the calls were, why coaches were making the decisions they were making and what each team needed to adjust to find success. I hope we get to hear even more from her and other amazing females in our sport like Sheehan Stanwick Burch, Amari Pollard, Tari Kandemiri and Dana Boyle throughout the season. They each elevate our game to another level and give the fans exactly what they want- — information and entertainment!
And now to the powerful women who impressed me on the field.
Taylor’s Top Players
Kristin O’Neill, Penn State
O’Neill does not play like a freshman. She’s confident on both ends of the field, has her nose in every draw control vand steps up in big moments for her Nittany Lions teammates. In Friday’s midday game against Ohio State, O’Neill was able to create a perfect double and get a clean check off before racing to the other end of the field to start the Penn State offense.
Speaking from experience, being a two-way midfielder as a freshman is NOT easy, and O’Neill makes it look stress-free and fun.
Chloe Johnson, Ohio State
In Ohio State’s much-needed victory on Friday, Johnson was all over the field. She scored one goal and added two assists in the Buckeyes’ win, but where she made her presence most known was on the draw circle.
Being a center in tightly contested matches is tough. The phrase “win the draw, win the game” comes to mind and immediately adds more pressure to the centers. However, Johnson was able to place the ball both to herself and to her circle with ease and helped Ohio State dominate the draw 38-13 over the weekend sweep of the Nittany Lions. Johnson controlled 19 draws by herself in those two games.
Sarah Blalock, Louisville
Blalock drew the tough task of face-guarding a powerhouse attacker in Boston College’s Charlotte North this weekend. This matchup is admittedly a difficult one, but Blalock was well up to the task and held North to one goal over two games.
Face-guarding is a bit of an art form. You have to be fast, quick and strong in order to stick to an opponent like glue, but you also have to be a solid defender in case that person gets the ball. Blalock showed she’s the ultimate face-guarder by limiting North’s possession time and playing solid 1-v-1 defense in the few instances she got the ball.
Jennifer Barry, Boston U.
Barry was on fire all over the field in Boston’s weekend matchup with Holy Cross. She chipped in three goals, three assists and one ground ball for the Terriers along with her record-breaking 18 draw controls.
What’s even more impressive about Barry’s day was that 14 of those draw wins came in the first half. With someone as talented and dangerous in the center circle as Barry, the Terriers get so much more possession time, increasing their opportunity to win each game.
Bridget Deehan, Notre Dame
In a top-10 matchup between Duke and Notre Dame on Sunday, Deehan was able to stifle the Blue Devil offense from the opening whistle. One of her most impressive series of saves came in the middle of the second half when the Duke offense was trying to close a five-goal gap.
Deehan not only stopped an off-side hip shot off the free position. She was then able to make another doorstop save on the rebound shot from the ground. She ended the weekend with 12 saves (57 percent) to secure the Irish victory.
Taylor’s Top 10 Teams

90,000 Malinda Blalock – Malinda Blalock
Sarah M. Pritchard Blalock. She is holding a photograph of her husband Keith.
Sara Malinda Pritchard Blalock (March 10, 1839 or 1842 – March 9, 1901 or 1903) was a female soldier during the American Civil War. Although initially sympathetic to the right to secede, she fought bravely on both sides. She followed her husband, William Blalock, and joined the 26th North Carolina CSA, disguised as a young man and calling herself Samuel Blalock. The couple eventually escaped, crossed the Confederate lines and joined the Union guerrillas in the mountains of western North Carolina. In the final years of the war, she was a pro-Allied marauder who raided the Appalachian region. Today she is one of the most memorable women in the Civil War.
Early life and marriage
Sarah Pritchard was born on March 10, 1839 in Caldwell County, North Carolina (now part of Avery County), which is located in the steep region of Grandpa Mountain.Sara Prichard was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Prichard and the sixth of nine children.
Attractions from the life of Malinda in North Carolina.
As a child, Sarah Pritchard lived in Watauga County (now Avery County), which was her primary residence until her death. There she studied at a one-room school.
She became a close friend of William McKesson Blalock, nicknamed Keith after the modern boxer for his boxing skills. Although their families were rivals for many years, she married William in 1861 at the age of 19.
civil war
After the outbreak of the Civil War, the western communities of North Carolina in the Appalachian Mountains became divided over their political views. Neighbors and families argued with each other. Malinda initially expressed sympathy for the right to secession, but Keith and his stepfather Austin Coffey were ardent unionists, although Keith was against President Lincoln and planned to desert to the Union someday. Blaloc’s opposing views did not affect their marriage.
When the 26th Confederate Infantry Regiment, under the command of Colonel Zebulon Vance, appeared in the region for recruitment, Keith began planning an escape across the border from his local political enemies. He hesitated whether to flee directly to Kentucky or to temporarily enlist in the Confederate army in order to later defect across the front lines.
Keith also considered the consequences of an untimely escape for Malinda, fearing that local dislike for his actions would cause her to become the scapegoat in his absence.Encouraged by the Grays’ good pay, Keith hoped to get a light military commission, perhaps to northern Virginia, from where it would be easy to desert to the nearest Yankee regiment. He accompanied his neighbors to the recruiting office, enlisting in the Confederate infantry.
Samuel Blalock
Fearing for Malinda, Keith made sure all the local separatists saw him leave with the Confederates. However, when he arrived at the recruiting camp at the city station, someone started walking next to him, a mysterious recruit who was wearing a cap, had a particularly small build and fragile facial features.Surprisingly, “He” turned out to be Malinda, his own wife.
Malinda was officially registered on March 20, 1862 in Lenoir, North Carolina as “Samuel Sammy Blalock,” Keith’s 20-year-old brother. This document and her leave of absence survived as one of the few existing records of a female soldier from North Carolina, among many who may have actually served.

Their plan of retreat proved impracticable because even before their arrival, the 26th had fought their biggest battle, the loss of the Union of New Bern in eastern North Carolina.Instead of moving to the front in Virginia, they remained stationed away from the northern border in Kinston, North Carolina, on the Noise River.
Keeping her hidden identity, Malinda was a good soldier. One of their assistant surgeons, named Underwood, pointed out that “her disguise was never broken. She trained and performed the duties of a soldier like any other member of the company and was very adept at learning leadership and exercises. ”
Keith later became a respected Brevet Sergeant, ordering Malinda to “stay with him.”They fought together in three battles, but the real identity of “Samuel” remained unknown.
Desertion
In April 1862, Kit’s detachment was ordered to bypass the Neuss River area, fording it at night to detect any enemy outposts. Their ultimate goal was to track down the location of a specific Union regiment commanded by US General Ambrose Burnside.
At some point in the mission, a tough fight began. Most of Keith’s force retreated to safety, crossing the Noise River back. However, after the regrouping, it turned out that the “Samuel” was missing. Keith quickly returned to the battlefield. He found that Malinda was clinging to a pine tree and bleeding profusely, with a bullet in her left shoulder.
As fast as he could, Keith carried Malinda back to 26th. He took her to the infirmary tent, where she was visited by a surgeon, Dr. Thomas J. Boykin. The bullet was successfully removed, but the truth about “Samuel” was revealed during a medical examination.
After receiving a promise from Boykin that he would give them some time before giving a presentation, Keith went to a nearby poison ivy field. He took off his clothes and rummaged in the bushes for about half an hour.
The next morning he had a persistent fever and his affected skin was inflamed and blistered. Keith told the doctors that he had a serious recurrent illness that was highly contagious and a hernia was added to it. Fearing an outbreak of smallpox, the doctors urgently discharged Keith from the regiment and imprisoned him in a tent.
Malinda will remain in the camp because her recent wound does not yet require discharge. She decided to fight Colonel Vance once and for all.She volunteered herself to help the ailing Sergeant Keith on his return to Watauga. Vance replied with a categorical “no”, informing “Samuel” that “he” would be his new personal orderly instead.
At this point, Malinda decided to tell Vance the truth. Vance’s first reaction was disbelief when he called the surgeon and commented to him, “Oh surgeon, I have a case for you!” However, the doctor confirmed Malinda’s statement. Immediately Vance fired “Samuel” and demanded the return of “his” initial $ 50 reward.
Marauders
Then Malinda and her husband can return to Watauga. Once there, however, Keita was soon demanded by local Confederate forces, who demanded that he recruit again – after he noted his health – and return to the front. Otherwise, he will be tried under the new Confederation draft laws.
So Malinda and Kate fled to Grandfather’s Mountain again. There they found more local deserters in the same condition. They stayed with them until the Confederate army intercepted the group, wounding Keith in the arm.
Malinda and Keith then moved to Tennessee, where they joined Colonel George Washington Kirk’s 10th Michigan Cavalry Army, later succeeded by General George Stoneman. For a while, Keith performed some administrative duties as a hiring agent.
However, the pair decided to engage again, this time for the Union, joining Colonel Kirk’s Volunteer Guerrilla Squadrons, North Carolina’s 3rd Cavalry Infantry, on reconnaissance and raider missions throughout the Appalachian region of North Carolina.
With Malinda by his side, Keith began his career in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, as one of the chief conductors of the Watauga Underground Railroad. It was a way to escape from the Confederate Prison in Salisbury, North Carolina, which was the largest institution in the state. Keith had to escort the escaped Union soldiers to safety in Tennessee. However, since 1863, skirmishes with enemy patrolling forces in the region became more and more fierce.
Keith’s guerrilla forces began raiding Watoga County. Because after being brutally humiliated by southern loyalists, criminals ruthlessly raided, looted and killed their farms. Looting across the Appalachian region of North Carolina, they soon became fearful of the entire state.
In 1863, Malinda realized she was pregnant, so she traveled to Tennessee to stay with another marauder’s wife. Having given birth to a son on April 8, 1864, she spent some time with relatives in the area before leaving her young son with them and returning to military activities.
Confederate warriors then killed Keith’s stepfather, Austin Coffey, and one of Austin’s four brothers (William), while the other two survived the attack. The coffees were betrayed by the locals, who were found and killed by Keith after the war.
During the war, some of Malinda and Keith’s most ill-fated actions were their two robbing incursions into the Moore family’s farm in Caldwell County in late 1863. One of Moore’s sons, James Daniel, was the 26th officer who initially recruited them…. During the first invasion, Malinda was wounded in the shoulder. During the second, Moore’s son was at home recovering from the Battle of Gettysburg, while Keith shot himself in the eye and lost it.
During the war, Keith lost his arm. He also killed one of his uncles, who turned to the Confederacy.
Later life
After the war, Malinda and Keith returned to Watauga to live the rest of their lives as farmers with their four children. For a while, they had problems getting Keith’s state pension. They then joined the Republican Party, where Keith ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress in the United States in 1870.
Sara Malinda Pritchard Blalock died in 1901 at the age of 59 from natural causes while she was sleeping. She was buried in Montezuma Cemetery in Avery County. Excited, Keith moved to Hickory, North Carolina, taking his son Columbus with him.
On April 11, 1913, Keith was killed in a train accident. He lost control of his handcart at a bend and was crushed to death. Some versions associate his death with retribution in recent years with Malinda. He was buried next to her in the Montezuma cemetery. Its stone badge reads “Keith Blalock, Soldier, 26th NC, CSA.”

crate ‘n’ burial (csi) – Wiki
Wiki (English wiki) is a website, the content of which users can independently modify using the tools provided by the site itself. Formatting text and inserting various objects into the text is done using wiki markup. In particular, Wikipedia and other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation [1] are built on the basis of these principles.
History
The term “wiki” was first used to describe a website in 1995 by Ward Cunningham, the developer of the first WikiWikiWeb wiki, the Portland Sample Repository [2] , created on March 25, 1995, which borrowed a Hawaiian word meaning “fast” [3] [4] . Cunningham explained his choice of the name of the engine by recalling an employee at Honolulu International Airport who advised him to use the wiki-wiki shuttle – a small bus that ran between airport terminals.Cunningham planned to make an engine that allowed users to edit and create articles as quickly as possible. Cunningham originally described the wiki as “the simplest online database that can function” [5] . Later this word was coined by the English backronym “What I Know Is …” (“what I know is …”) [6] .
Essence of the concept wiki
Ward Cunningham and co-author Bo Leuf, in their book The Wiki Way: Quick Collaboration on the Web, described the concept of a wiki as follows:
- Wiki invites all users to edit any page or create new pages on a wiki using a regular web browser without any extensions.
- A wiki maintains links between different pages by creating links to other pages in an almost intuitive way and showing whether the page exists or not.
- Wiki is not a carefully crafted site for casual visitors. On the contrary, Wiki strives to engage visitors in an ongoing process of creation and collaboration that constantly changes the look of the site.
The
Defining properties
Wiki is characterized by the following features:
- Ability to repeatedly edit the text through the wiki environment (site) itself, without the use of special tools on the side of the editor.
- A special markup language – the so-called wiki markup , which allows you to easily and quickly mark up structural elements and hyperlinks in the text; format and style individual elements [7] .
- Keeping track of changes (versions) of pages : the ability to compare revisions and restore earlier ones.
- The manifestation of changes immediately after they are made.
- Split content into named pages .
- Hypertext : linking pages and subsections of the site through contextual hyperlinks.
- Many authors . Some wikis can be edited by all site visitors.
Technical Basis
Editing wiki text in MediaWiki
To create a wiki environment, you need special software – wiki engine . This is a particular type of content management system, rather simple in its structure and functionality, since almost all actions for structuring and processing content are done by users manually.
Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation sites are powered by the MediaWiki engine.
Highlights
The wiki language supports hyperlinks to create links between wiki pages and is more descriptive than HTML and safer because JavaScript and cascading style sheets are limited.
Vandalism
Many wikis allow anyone to change their content, not just registered users. Just as the walls of buildings and fences are covered with obscene writing and graffiti, these wikis sometimes spoil the content or add something inappropriate. But unlike walls and fences, wiki content is easy to revert to an earlier version: is easier to fix than is corrupted. If someone persistently and deliberately seeks to harm the users of the wiki site, you can block his ability to make edits.

Britney Spears’ rival scandalous Christina Aguilera did not enter the top ten.She is in 11th place this year.

Goodwill Ambassador to the UN – a famous Hollywood actress and “the owner of the lips that most want to kiss” – Angelina Jolie was in 32nd place. Jolie has taken this place for the second year in a row. Perhaps heavy divorce and prolonged sexual abstinence .

90,000 Exhibition “You are looking at something that has never happened”
From September 14 to November 4, the Multimedia Art Museum will host the exhibition “You are looking at what has never been” from the Zabludowicz collection.
Exhibition “You are looking at what never happened”
Poyu and Anita Zabludovich are one of the most respected patrons of art in Europe. The Zabludowicz Collection, which opened in London in 2007 in a former 19th century church, houses an impressive private collection of contemporary art and is also a unique launching pad for emerging artists. The gallery constantly hosts exhibitions that open up new promising names for viewers and the world art community.
The exhibition at MAMM covers the period from 1977 to the present and brings together the works of 14 artists working with photography.Among them are recognized stars of world contemporary art: Cindy Sherman, Christopher Williams, Richard Prince, Andreas Gursky, Jeff Wall, Thomas Ruff, Wolfgang Tillmans, as well as young talented artists: Erin Shirreff, Sarah Quinar, Lucas Blalock, Ann Collier, Natalie Cech, Elad Lassri, Sarah Van Der Beck.
In the middle of the twentieth century, street photography was the dominant genre of photography. Its essence was ideally expressed by the principle of Henri Cartier-Bresson’s “decisive moment”: photographers tried to snatch unique, unusual “threads” from the “fabric” of life. The main goal of photography was to document reality.
Exhibition “You are looking at something that never happened”
Photography is still influenced by these fundamental ideas today, but contemporary artists increasingly oppose the principle of documentary. Photography has become one of the most “accessible” ways of self-expression. Every second, millions of people around the world, armed with mobile phone cameras, take millions of pictures, uploading everything that attracts their attention to the network.
Perhaps that is why, in recent decades, photographers and artists are moving away from the principles of spontaneity and authenticity, including photography in a dialogue with other forms of visual art: painting, sculpture, cinema, freely using the methods of transforming reality developed by art history, developing them taking into account the opportunities provided by new technologies.
To achieve the desired effect of transformation, artists use various techniques, sometimes involving unexpected staging, and sometimes the most complex manipulations with the very fabric of the image. The name of the project was borrowed from a conversation between Jeff Wall and Lucas Blalock, in which it was discussed that art is born of experiment and mystery.
Exhibition “You are looking at what has never happened”
The exhibition reflects the mutual influence of different generations of artists working on different continents and in different genres, as well as an attempt to combine different opinions on the role of photography as a media in today’s world.
