How to choose a summer camp and whether to send a child there
During the warm season, many families send their children to summer health camps. Director of the International Computer Academy Pavel Spetsian shared his experience and told whether it is worth sending a child to a summer camp and how not to make a mistake with the choice.
Why send your child to camp?
Children love to feel like adults, but often their parents are so protective of them that the child is not able to feel independent at home. Therefore, a children’s camp on vacation is simply necessary.
Only there the child will be able to adapt, being in a team of peers. A school or a club cannot replace the entire set of vital knowledge and skills that he will learn at a summer camp.
How many shifts to buy a ticket?
According to the recommendations of child psychologists, until the age of nine it is better for a child to limit himself to only one shift per summer (14-21 days). Already at the age of 10 and older, you can leave him in a summer camp for two shifts, but no more: a student may accumulate psychological fatigue and no longer want to rest.
If it is not possible to refuse three shifts at a health camp, then you should buy a ticket to another camp. And in no case should you offer a child four shifts and send him to the same place.
At what age should a child go to camp?
The approach to this issue is individual. If a child is independent, sociable, knows how to take care of himself, then he will usefully spend time in a children’s camp at the age of six. And if he is used to being with his parents all the time and does not have self-care skills, the best age is eight years old. A teacher or counselor will not be able to quickly teach a child to take care of himself, this is the task of parents.
Why are many parents reluctant to send their children to camp?
Parents’ fears can be understood: they are afraid of losing control over their child – suddenly they fall ill, fall under bad influence, someone will offend them. Children in the camp receive freedom from parental care, it is not known how they will behave there.
Parents can choose the environment and conditions for the child themselves if they approach this problem responsibly. You should ask what program is in the camp shift, what is the public opinion about the camp, what is the contingent.
It is also necessary to find out the level of training of the educator, counselor, medical personnel. If the staff is competent enough, the student or teenager will be in safe hands, and the parents will be sure that the children will be given due attention.
What if the child is uncomfortable in the camp?
If children’s rest is properly organized at the summer camp, if they are interested, then they simply don’t have time to mope, remember their parents, or cry. Children’s camp on vacation is an invaluable life experience, you should not refuse it. But if suddenly the baby is categorically against the trip, in no case should you force him. Just give him time to grow up.
How to quickly adapt before going to a children’s camp?
- If your child is not active, then find him for the company of classmates or neighbors.
- Look at the camp program, explain to the child what he will do there.
- Tell us what new opportunities the student will have, what benefits he can get.
- It is better to come to the camp before the start of the visit in order to get acquainted with the situation.
- Have your child take their favorite item with them.
Benefits of children’s camps
Discipline
A strict routine allows the child to acquire useful skills. He will try to do exercises at home, clean up after himself, every minute will be spent with benefit.
Socializing and communication experience
Children’s camp will teach your teenager to do without a mobile phone for a while, because he will be busy with live communication. The guys here not only communicate, but they learn to live in the same territory. This is a valuable experience that shows how you can negotiate, defend your rights and find compromises – this is how the best qualities of children are manifested.
Independence and responsibility
Every child, being in the camp, masters the skills of self-care, because there are no parents here, you have to do everything yourself. Children learn to be responsible for their actions.
New talents can be discovered in a child.
There are a lot of activities in the camp, various competitions are held. Perhaps your child, after being in the camp, will discover a new talent. And he will be happy to attend classes in robotics, perhaps your child is the future Mark Zuckerberg.
He will learn how to work in a team, speak in front of an audience, create his own website, run a YouTube channel.
We invite you to familiarize yourself with our conditions, an interesting and rich program.
