About different children or how to choose the right camp
#LIFE_INCAMP

The first words that a counselor hears in any camp sound something like this: “Keep in mind that parents entrusted us with the most precious thing, they are very worried about their children, and it is our responsibility to ensure that every child is alive and well, that he leaves home rested and happy. ” This is repeated by all Methodists like a mantra, like a prayer, like a spell. And counselors try to make happy, doctors to improve health, cooks to feed, teachers to teach, educate, socialize. We understand that there are no random people among the teaching staff in the camp, the camp immediately squeezes out the indifferent. But what if in the camp a child encounters other children who are not tolerant? Or just used to living differently?
Imagine: an intelligent teenager from a family of an engineer and a philologist finds himself on a sports or military-patriotic shift. And now the boy, beloved by his parents and teachers, who wins all the Olympiads in Russian history and foreign literature, runs into sports guys, and in their value scale he is just a White Crow. He can’t distinguish a free kick from a free kick, he doesn’t know that Denis Cheryshev moved to the Valencia football club, he calls boots sneakers … What to do Another in this camp? Will he hear insults addressed to him? Foul language? How will his behavior change upon arrival from the shift? What should parents be prepared for?
In the situation described above, the best answer for parents is to carefully choose a camp for their child, read the program, get to know shift leaders, take recommendations from friends.
Nevertheless, every year children go to children’s camps, who not only did not participate in choosing the camp themselves, but also whose parents did not really think about where the child would go. Of course, I want the child to rest, visit nature, make new acquaintances, but there is sorely not enough time and money to choose a good camp. Parents often take the first option, which is suitable for money and living conditions. And now the little genius (almost Sheldon Cooper in childhood) rushes to the rest of his parents’ dreams. And what’s next?
I think everyone can paint a picture of what bad things can happen to a young person of a similar mindset in the camp described above. At best, the guys from the detachment will smile at his strange statements and behavior. At worst, the child will return home in an absolutely resourceless state.
I see no point in describing the details. Many people have experienced similar situations. And if they haven’t come across, they can figure out the missing details.
This story may have a happy ending. And in order for everything to work out, competent, empathetic, responsive counselors are needed. We need a senior counselor and a shift leader who care, and, of course, we need the support of parents.
I remember one interesting case from practice. I worked as a counselor in the camp, let’s call it “Bunch”. Camp for children of employees of internal departments. A squad of teenagers. And so, a young man comes to our detachment, who, in my first impression, mixed up the eras. Let’s call him Yura. Yura’s manners were so perfect, and the form of construction of sentences so beautiful, that he would fit perfectly into the family of some count who lived at the end of the 19th century. The phrases: “be kind”, “I ask, most humbly, forgive”, “pass it on, please” – were the norm for him.
It remains a mystery to me to this day how he ended up in this camp. When asked about this, he answered that his grandmother had sent him.
The detachment did not want to accept Yura. He was different. They laughed at him, avoided him, they could joke. Conversations with the guys in the detachment helped to achieve balance. Despite the fact that the older guys tried to make our hero a laughingstock, they managed to avoid bullying, and I already considered this a great success.
Yura always followed the leaders with his tail. He talked on smart topics, said that he really wanted to go home, but his grandmother needed to rest, and therefore he would last until the end of the shift. And I really wanted to help him. I wanted the guys from the detachment to accept him, support him. I wanted to create a situation of success for Yura. These thoughts led me to the head of the shift, Sveta, and the senior counselor, Katya. We thought for a long time what to do, how to help the boy. A few days later, the Intellectual and Sports Olympiad was born in our country. Sveta allowed the shift plan to be adjusted. Katya and leaders of other units organized PR events. And so, in the course of sports tests with elements of scientific tasks for teams, Yura showed the strength of his intellect. In this competition, our team had no equal. The games went on for 3 days. And by the third day, Yura became a hero not only of our detachment, but also of the adult half of the camp. All of our pedagogical detachment sincerely rejoiced for him. A situation of success has been reached.
No, the jokes on the young man didn’t stop after that, but they became kinder, or something. Yura has friends. He stopped following counselors with a tail. He even promised to come next year.
But Yura might not have had all this if it weren’t for the sympathetic and understanding shift leaders who helped the counselors come up with an action plan and adjusted the shift schedule to this plan. No one can give guarantees that some other “Yura” will be so lucky in the camp, where there is no way to quickly reshape the entire shift for one child.
But the opposite happens. Exactly 180 degrees. No, I’m not talking about a camp full of blue-blooded children abandoned to us straight from the 19th century. Such people are still rare. But fate sometimes throws representatives of the “golden youth” into the tent camp. Try to imagine a person who has gathered in a trendy nightclub in a clearing in front of a fire. Around people with guitars, bowls in which fresh buckwheat “navy style” smokes and mugs with fragrant tea.
Comic? Strange? Sounds like surrealism? I would have said the same if it were not for the story that Marina Gritsun, (director of the camp “Island of Heroes”), told on her Facebook page.
On one of their shifts, a girl was brought to a campground on the lake shore, who would have looked more relevant in a fashionable resort, in an expensive swimsuit on a snow-white beach next to the ocean, and not next to the ward and hundreds of kilometers from the nearest large city. It was a test for her, and for the counselors, and for the leaders, and for the rest of the children. Sent to the camp by force, she did not want to take part in his life. And she wasn’t interested either. I dare to suggest that this form of recreation was alien to her. As Marina Gritsun herself writes: “the Great Battle of glamor against team building has begun.” The detachment tried to involve the teenager in the work, the counselors and the senior counselor talked with her for several hours a day. By the middle of the shift, Marina herself joined the conversations.
As a result of titanic efforts and pedagogical skills, the girl was involved in creative activity. She staged the concert herself and performed with a creative number. The heroine of this story managed to be drawn into the common work. But the individual work was done seriously. And if it were a large camp, then the opportunities for such a targeted approach would be much smaller, and, consequently, the result would be completely different.
These two stories show that in such situations, an additional burden falls on the shoulders of counselors and leaders of the camp. These children need to be supported. Try to create the most friendly atmosphere in the detachment. Find a job where such a child can prove himself, and thereby create a situation for him to succeed.
The more children in the camp and the larger the units in it, the less opportunity for counselors and shift leaders to apply an individual approach in such situations. In large camps, teachers simply do not have time and energy for this. And without additional attention, the guys who find themselves in a similar situation will be insanely hard. As a result of the negative experience received, the child will be hostile to any other proposals for trips to the camp, no matter how colorful and attractive the advertising brochures of these camps are.
Yes, children need to communicate with each other. Yes, in the camps they get the social experience they need in adulthood. Yes, in the camps children learn to be independent. But in order for all this to benefit, you need to carefully consider the choice of a camp for a child. It is necessary to take into account the specifics of the child himself, his needs and interests. Ask him what he would be interested in doing in the camp. Evaluate the possibilities of the camp itself. Before buying a ticket, talk to the head of the camp and clarify the possibilities of the pedagogical team to create a safe developing environment on the shift. If possible, before the shift, you need to talk with the leaders of your squad and inform them about the characteristics of your child. So it will be easier for the counselors to help the child find himself in the camp.
The camp will always be a separate adventure for the child. To paraphrase a famous song by O. Mityaev, the camp is a small life. By choosing the right camp, both parent and child can make this life happy.

Accommodation
Address: Turkey, Kusadasi, RISUS AQUA BEACH RESORT
Why are we calling you to the Aegean coast? The answer is simple: a milder climate – we swim already in June, there is no sweltering heat all summer, as a light breeze always blows from the sea.
The most famous sights – Pamukkale, Ancient Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary – are very close. So, our little paradise on the Aegean coast of the western coast of Turkey, 4 km from the resort of Kusadasi and 90 km from Izmir (arrival airport). For 21 years of successful work (with a short break), the camp has become one of my favorites!
Beach
Just a couple of steps separates you from the sandy beach with free umbrellas and sun loungers. The beach gently descends into a shallow transparent sea, ideal for bathing children. For those who do not like just sunbathing – beach volleyball and active games with counselors and animators.
The swimming area is fenced and safe. There is a lifeguard on duty at the beach while swimming.
Infrastructure
The main attraction of our camp is our own real large water park (18 slides) with many lawns for relaxation, sun loungers and umbrellas, a pool with water polo gates, a sports ground for playing volleyball, basketball, a darts area, an animation playground with a stage. The use of the water park is free.
In addition to the pools of the water park, there is a pool and a dance floor for entertainment events and discos. In front of the bungalows in which we will be accommodated, there are enough shady places for board games, English classes.
Wi-Fi is working.
The territory is guarded around the clock.

Review of the camp “Long Beach”
As a vacationer (camps – “Long Beach”) I think that this is one of the best camps I’ve been to. This is exactly the place where you can relax one hundred percent. The animations that take place with us every day are funny and amazing. Excursions are also very good, but in my opinion the best of them is the yacht. I liked everything very much and I am ready to come here every year.

Review of the camp “Long Beach”
The main thing that pleases in this camp is freedom of action. Unlike other camps, there is not such a strict discipline, there is an opportunity to feel free and responsible at the same time.
Counselors are young, which simplifies communication, it is much easier to understand each other. It develops its own special atmosphere, playing “mafia” at night is generally a separate topic of conversation.
I don’t like to dilute my compositions with water, so I’ll just say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the creation of such a wonderful project. And thank you guys so much, it’s impossible not to love them.

I went to this camp not for the first time. I liked it very much. The beach is good, the food is monotonous, but deliciously prepared. Cleaners clean every 7 days. The counselors are excellent, you won’t leave the camp without counselors !!! The location of the hotel is good.
The markets are not very far away, but not cheap either. The hotel area is not so hot, there is little greenery. The water park is great, the pools are good! The hotel rooms are nice.
