Orangeville Northmen Box House League: Nurturing Young Lacrosse Talent
The Orangeville Northmen house league box lacrosse program offers a fantastic opportunity for boys and girls aged 3-12 to learn and enjoy the sport in a friendly, competitive environment. With divisions catering to different age groups, the program ensures that young players can develop their skills and passion for lacrosse at an appropriate level.
2023 House League Divisions
- U5 (Soft Lacrosse): Birth years 2019 & 2020
- U7: Birth years 2017 & 2018
- U9: Birth years 2015 & 2016
- U11 & U13 Combined: Birth years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
Each division has been carefully structured to provide age-appropriate training and game formats. For instance, the U5 division focuses on skill development through play, while the U11 & U13 combined division introduces modified contact rules to ensure player safety while advancing their skills.
Grading Days: Ensuring Fair Team Balance
To create balanced and competitive teams, the Northmen organization conducts grading days for players in the U9 to U13 divisions. These sessions allow coaches to assess players’ skill levels and distribute talent evenly across teams.
Equipment Requirements: Safety First in Lacrosse
Proper equipment is crucial for player safety and enjoyment of the game. The Orangeville Northmen have specific equipment requirements for each age group:
- U5 (Soft Lacrosse): Running shoes, lacrosse stick, helmet with face mask. Lacrosse gloves are recommended but not mandatory.
- U7: Running shoes, lacrosse stick, helmet with face mask, and gloves.
- U9-U13: Full equipment is required, including protective gear for body, arms, and legs.
Goalie equipment is provided for Tyke, Novice, and Peewee teams, ensuring that young players can try out different positions without additional equipment costs.
New Residency Rules: Expanding Access to House League Lacrosse
In an effort to make lacrosse more accessible, the Orangeville Northmen have implemented new residency rules for house league participation. Children can now register for any lacrosse center of their choice, regardless of their place of residence. This change allows for greater flexibility and opportunities for young players to get involved in the sport.
Friend Requests: Balancing Social Connections and Fair Play
The Northmen organization understands the importance of social connections in youth sports. While they strive to accommodate friend requests, they also prioritize creating balanced and fair teams. Players are limited to one friend request, which must be reciprocated to be considered. This approach ensures a good balance between social enjoyment and competitive play.
Volunteer Opportunities: Supporting the Growth of Lacrosse
The success of the Orangeville Northmen program relies heavily on volunteer support. Coaches, helpers, and even referees are needed to keep the program running smoothly. High school students can earn volunteer hours by getting involved, making it a win-win situation for the community and young adults looking to gain experience.
How can interested volunteers get involved?
Prospective volunteers can email [email protected] to express their interest in helping out. All volunteers over 18 must have a vulnerable sector check on file, ensuring the safety of young players.
