How does the Nutty Buddy cup compare to traditional athletic cups. What makes the Nutty Buddy system unique in its design and protection. Is the Nutty Buddy comfortable for extended wear during sports activities. How effective is the Nutty Buddy in protecting against high-impact shots.
The Revolutionary Design of the Nutty Buddy Cup
The Nutty Buddy cup has taken the world of athletic protection by storm, offering a unique approach to safeguarding male athletes’ most sensitive areas. Unlike traditional athletic cups, the Nutty Buddy boasts an anatomically correct design that considers the natural shape and positioning of male genitalia.
Key features of the Nutty Buddy cup include:
- A lower tail for extended protection
- Individual spaces for each testicle
- A design that redirects force to the pelvic bone
- A “floating” system that moves with the body
How does this innovative design translate to real-world protection? The Nutty Buddy’s structure is engineered to disperse impact force outward rather than inward, significantly reducing the risk of injury to the testicles.
The Nutty Buddy System: More Than Just a Cup
The Nutty Buddy isn’t just a standalone cup; it’s a comprehensive protection system. The full package includes:
- The Nutty Buddy classic cup
- Nutty Buddy compression shorts
- A Nutty Buddy jock
This trio works in tandem to provide optimal protection and comfort. The system is designed to be worn in a specific order: compression shorts first, followed by the cup, and finally the jock on the outside.
The “Floating” Mechanism
What sets the Nutty Buddy apart from traditional cups? Its unique “floating” mechanism allows the cup to move naturally with the body, providing consistent protection without compromising comfort. This design eliminates the need for a pouch in either the compression shorts or the jock, allowing for a more streamlined fit.
Comfort and Wearability: A Game-Changer for Athletes
Comfort is paramount when it comes to athletic gear, especially protective equipment. How does the Nutty Buddy fare in this department? Many users report that after an initial adjustment period, the Nutty Buddy becomes so comfortable that they forget they’re wearing it.
The floating design contributes significantly to this comfort level, allowing for natural movement without restriction. Additionally, the anatomically correct shape means less pinching or squeezing, a common complaint with traditional cup designs.
Practical Benefits
Beyond comfort, the Nutty Buddy system offers some practical advantages:
- Easy removal without full disrobing
- Stays in place during various activities, including sitting
- Provides ample space for anatomical variations
Protection Efficacy: Putting the Nutty Buddy to the Test
The true measure of any protective gear is its ability to prevent injury. How effective is the Nutty Buddy in real-world scenarios? While individual experiences may vary, many athletes, including lacrosse goalies who face high-velocity shots, report excellent protection from the Nutty Buddy.
In one extreme demonstration, the company’s founder took a 90 mph shot directly to the groin from just five feet away while wearing the Nutty Buddy. While this isn’t a scientific test, it certainly speaks to the confidence the company has in its product.
User Experiences
Athletes who have used the Nutty Buddy during actual gameplay report feeling well-protected. Even glancing blows, which can cause significant pain with traditional cups, are described as resulting in only mild pressure when wearing the Nutty Buddy.
Sizing and Fit: Ensuring Optimal Protection
Proper sizing is crucial for any protective gear to function effectively. The Nutty Buddy comes in various sizes to accommodate different body types. How do you choose the right size?
The Nutty Buddy sizing chart provides recommendations based on waist size:
- Small: 27″ – 30″ waist
- Medium: 31″ – 34″ waist
- Large: 35″ – 38″ waist
- XL: 39″ – 42″ waist
- XXL: 43″ – 46″ waist
It’s important to note that if you’re at the upper end of a size range, it may be advisable to size up for optimal comfort and protection.
Cup Sizes
The Nutty Buddy cup itself comes in five different sizes, ranging from the “Hammer” (smallest) to the “Hog” (largest). This variety ensures that athletes can find a cup that fits their individual anatomy comfortably and securely.
Comparing the Nutty Buddy to Traditional Athletic Cups
How does the Nutty Buddy stack up against traditional athletic cups? While both serve the same primary function, there are several key differences:
Feature | Nutty Buddy | Traditional Cups |
---|---|---|
Design | Anatomically correct | Generally one-size-fits-all |
Fit | “Floating” system | Fixed in a pouch |
Comfort | High, after adjustment period | Varies, often less comfortable |
Protection | Disperses force outward | Absorbs impact directly |
Sizing options | Multiple sizes available | Usually limited options |
While traditional cups have served athletes well for many years, the Nutty Buddy’s innovative design addresses many of the common complaints associated with standard athletic cups.
The Nutty Buddy for Specific Sports: A Focus on Lacrosse
While the Nutty Buddy is suitable for various sports, it has gained particular popularity among lacrosse players, especially goalies. Why is the Nutty Buddy well-suited for lacrosse?
- High-impact protection: Lacrosse involves fast-moving balls that can cause significant injury
- Freedom of movement: Goalies need to be able to move quickly and freely
- Comfort for extended wear: Lacrosse games and practices can be lengthy
Many lacrosse goalies report feeling more confident and protected when using the Nutty Buddy, allowing them to focus on their performance without worrying about potential injuries.
Pairing with Other Gear
Some lacrosse players have found success in pairing the Nutty Buddy cup with other protective gear. For example, many goalies use the Nutty Buddy in conjunction with Warrior Burn goalie pants for comprehensive lower body protection.
Potential Drawbacks and Considerations
While the Nutty Buddy has many advantages, it’s important to consider potential drawbacks:
- Cost: The Nutty Buddy system is generally more expensive than traditional cups
- Learning curve: The unique wearing method may take some getting used to
- Compression shorts quality: Some users report that the included compression shorts are not of the highest quality
Are these drawbacks significant enough to outweigh the benefits? For many athletes, the superior protection and comfort of the Nutty Buddy make it worth the investment and adjustment period.
Room for Improvement
While the Nutty Buddy cup itself is innovative, there may be room for improvement in the overall system. For instance, incorporating additional padding in the compression shorts could provide even more comprehensive protection for athletes in high-impact sports.
How might future iterations of the Nutty Buddy system address these potential areas for improvement? As with any product, user feedback and ongoing research and development will likely lead to further refinements and enhancements.
The Impact of the Nutty Buddy on Athletic Performance
Beyond protection, how does the Nutty Buddy affect an athlete’s performance? Many users report that the increased comfort and confidence provided by the Nutty Buddy allows them to focus more fully on their sport, potentially improving their performance.
Key performance benefits include:
- Reduced distraction from discomfort
- Increased confidence in protection
- Better freedom of movement compared to traditional cups
While it’s difficult to quantify the direct impact on athletic performance, the psychological benefits of feeling well-protected should not be underestimated.
Mental Game
In sports where the risk of groin injury is high, such as hockey or lacrosse, the peace of mind provided by reliable protection can be a significant factor in an athlete’s mental game. By reducing anxiety about potential injuries, the Nutty Buddy may help athletes stay focused and perform at their best.
Maintenance and Longevity of the Nutty Buddy System
How do you care for your Nutty Buddy to ensure it continues to provide optimal protection? Like any piece of athletic equipment, proper maintenance is key to the longevity and effectiveness of the Nutty Buddy system.
Care instructions typically include:
- Regular washing of the compression shorts and jock
- Inspecting the cup for any signs of damage or wear
- Storing the system properly when not in use
With proper care, many athletes find that their Nutty Buddy system lasts for several seasons, making it a worthwhile investment in their athletic career.
Replacement Considerations
When should you consider replacing your Nutty Buddy? While the cup itself is quite durable, the compression shorts and jock may wear out more quickly with regular use. It’s important to periodically assess all components of the system and replace as needed to ensure ongoing protection.
The Future of Athletic Protection: Beyond the Nutty Buddy
The Nutty Buddy represents a significant innovation in athletic protection, but what might the future hold? As our understanding of sports injuries and biomechanics continues to evolve, we may see further advancements in protective gear design.
Potential areas for future innovation could include:
- Integration of smart materials that respond to impact
- Customized 3D-printed cups for perfect individual fit
- Comprehensive protection systems that cover a wider area
While these ideas are speculative, they highlight the ongoing potential for improvement in athletic protection technology.
The Role of Athlete Feedback
How do athlete experiences shape the development of protective gear? User feedback plays a crucial role in refining and improving products like the Nutty Buddy. As more athletes adopt these innovative protection systems, their insights will likely drive further advancements in design and functionality.
The evolution of athletic protection gear like the Nutty Buddy underscores the importance of continual innovation in sports equipment. By addressing the specific needs and concerns of athletes, these advancements not only enhance safety but also contribute to improved performance and enjoyment of sports at all levels.
Nutty Buddy Review – Lacrosse Goalie Cup
By Coach Damon
Awhile back I wrote a post outlining the different methods lacrosse goalies could protect their packages.
Missing from the post was one very popular method that I wasn’t familiar with.
But plenty of goalies and goalie parents left me the same type of comment.
All the comments said the same thing: What about the Nutty Buddy?
Finding the best cup for goalies has become somewhat of a passion project of mine so I had to see what the NuttyBuddy was all about.
After using it for an extended period, I’m happy to say the Nutty Buddy is a definite contender for protecting your livelihood.
The Nutty Buddy System
First things first, in their marketing video the owner and founder Mark Littell takes a 90mph straight to the junk from like 5 feet away!
With pure marketing gold like that, I knew I had to check this thing out.
I got the Package – which includes the NuttyBuddy classic cup, the NuttyBuddy compression shorts and the NuttyBuddy jock.
The NuttyBuddy system is unlike any I’ve tried before so I actually put it on wrong to start. It comes with a “How To Wear” guide which — had I read first — clearly explained how to wear it haha.
The correct method is compression shorts, then cup, then jock on outside.
Neither the compression shorts nor the jock have a pouch. The design is such that the cup “floats” with your body, protecting the boys.
It felt a bit odd at first but once you get used to it, its extremely comfortable to the point where you don’t even realize it’s there.
In the same manner that a skilled attackman gently cradles the lacrosse ball, so does the NuttyBuddy with our twig and berries.
For those worried that the float will result in an out of place cup, fear not! I wore it around the house for about an hour or so when I first got it never got out of place. Even after sitting down a few times. Also in all my time on the lacrosse field, I never felt it come out of place.
The NuttyBuddy is revolutionary in it’s design. It’s anatomically correct, includes a lower tail for protection, and provides space for each testicle.
I’m no groinal engineer but the unique design of the NuttyBuddy cup supposedly redistributes the force into the pelvic bone. Dispursing the force outward instead of inwards towards the testies.
The design gives ample room for each individual boy to really explore the space:
Another added benefit of the floating system is you can easily pull the cup out without disrobing. Makes the pre-game bathroom trip a lot easier!
While the NuttyBuddy cup itself is revolutionary in design, I wouldn’t say there’s anything revolutionary about the compression shorts.
I have other compression shorts that I think are much better in quality. Plus if they’re really looking to capture the goalie market they could throw some extra padding into the shorts to help alleviate the bruises us goalies face.
As I mentioned the compression shorts don’t have a pouch, so you don’t necessarily need the Nutty Buddy compression shorts. Any pair will do. In fact, many goalies pair the Nutty Buddy with the Warrior Burn goalie pants:
The Nutty Buddy jock itself is of good quality and includes a sturdy 2″ waistband that gives it a good feel. Those grundle straps won’t be snapping on you like normal Bike jock straps.
Nutty Buddy Protection
So the real question is – does it adequately protect the boys?
Listen I’m not as a crazy as Mark to purposely let a 90mph hit me square in the boys so it took me awhile of play before I took one there.
What’s that classic lacrosse goalie saying – when you’re trying to get hit in the nuts, it never happens.
But finally after several practice sessions, I took one to the plums.
It was a glancing blow but I can confidently say it protected me very well. I felt a little pressure but no pain whatsoever.
I have heard from several indoor lacrosse goalies (who take way more shots than outdoor field goalies) that they trust the NuttyBuddy fully!
Any NuttyBuddy goalies taken a direct hit? Would love to hear your experience. Leave me a comment down below.
Nutty Buddy Sizing
I’m 5’8″, 165lbs so I got the “Hog” for the cup and a medium in the shorts and the jock
NuttyBuddy actually makes two different styles of cup – the classic and the flex. For lacrosse goalies, you want the Classic.
When we’re talking about taking a shot to the groin, the word flex shouldn’t enter our vocabulary.
Here’s the sizing chart from their website:
The fit was pretty true.
I wear 31″ jeans and the medium (recommended for 31″ – 34″) fit me just fine.
My Dad wears 34″ jeans and it fit him a little snug. Yes, I had my Dad try on the NuttyBuddy. Groin protection is a family affair in the Wilson household it appears.
So if you’re at the top threshold maybe go the next size up.
The cup itself comes in 5 different sizes. From smallest to the largest – the Hammer, the Boss, the Hog, the Trophy, and the Mongo.
That’s pretty important because most other athletic cups for goalies are pretty much a one size fits all deal. Maybe they have small and large but definitely not 5 unique sizes to perfectly protect the snow globes.
I got the “Hog” size and it fit well.
Nutty Buddy Pricing
At the time of this writing, the prices are as follows:
- NuttyBuddy Athletic Cup Classic: $29.99
- The NuttyBuddy Jock: $24.95
- NuttyBuddy Lock Core Compression Shorts: $69.95
You can purchase the NuttyBuddy on their site here.
You can save a little coin by buying the entire Package here for $154.88.
The cup and jock are required. The compression shorts can be optional.
So we’re talking $30 + $25 = $55 for great protection of the ham and eggs. Sounds like a deal to me!

Conclusion
*30 for 30 voice* What if I told you this man just took a 90mph fastball to the chicken tenders from 5 feet away!?
The NuttyBuddy has won awards for its innovative design and that face says it all. If this entire article doesn’t convince you to give the NuttyBuddy a try, just look at that face!!!
Goalies who have used the NuttyBuddy refuse to step onto the field without and I understand why.
It’s comfortable and it protects! What else can we ask for?
You can get the NuttyBuddy on their site here.
Until next time! Coach Damon

How to describe a cup correctly? | article on CAFETO.RU
Working with coffee involves constant control of the brewed drink. While tasting, the barista determines what could be changed in the recipe to improve the taste of the cup. Such work develops the taste experience and makes the person behind the bar a real coffee taster. But sometimes assessing the taste of coffee is confusing and confusing, so it is worth doing it in stages and with concentration.
Briefly, there are five parameters that must be described in each cup:
1) aroma;
2) balance;
3) body;
4) texture;
5) bouquet.
Let’s get acquainted with each of them separately.
The aroma of the drink is the first impression you get from the cup. It can be sweet or sour, bulky or muted, fruity or nutty. All these are completely different characteristics, but all of them will somehow tell about the progress of the extraction and set you up for the first sip.
Balance is a collective characteristic that comes down to describing the four basic tastes: acidity, sweetness, bitterness and salinity. In general, it is generally accepted that there are five tastes – there is also the so-called umami. But industry professionals agree that there is no umami taste in coffee, so baristas describe only the aforementioned four.
You need to do this by levels (low, medium or high) and gradually. Take a sip and focus on the sensations. Most likely, the first thing you will feel is acidity, which in a few seconds will turn into bitterness. You need to understand how intense these tastes are in general and relative to each other? How long are they? Is there a smooth transition between them? What remains on the aftertaste? If it seems to you that the cup has high acidity, try to understand if it is positive (reminiscent of citruses, fruits) or negative (more like ascorbic acid)? Does it reach the aftertaste? If there are notes of bitterness left from the coffee at the end, then the acidity is probably not as high as it seems. And then you should pay attention to the bitterness: whether it resembles a tablet or more like sensations, like after a piece of dark chocolate.
Sweetness and sunshine work to the advantage. If salt is felt in the cup, then there will definitely not be sweetness in it – the sugars have not yet been extracted into the drink. Such a cup will also sound very acidic. If there is no salt, but you don’t feel sweetness either, then there are not enough sugars in the cup. A sweet cup will give the sensation of sugar on the tongue almost from the beginning of the sip until the very aftertaste.
The body is the tactile sensation of the drink in the mouth. In simple words, how dense, thick, viscous it is, or vice versa – watery, light. To describe the body, the words “light”, “medium”, “dense” or more specific are used: watery, tea, compote, syrupy, etc. To assess the body correctly, taste uncut drinks – milk, tea, cream, compote. Remember these tactile sensations and apply them behind the bar.
The texture of a drink is a similar characteristic that describes the sensation of roughness or smoothness of the drink on the tongue. For example, if during and after a sip you feel astringent, scraping, rough qualities, call this texture velvety, rough. If you do not notice this, then the drink can be described as rounded, smooth, clean.
The last thing the barista describes is the bouquet of the cup. These are the so-called descriptors or flavor notes that can be caught in the drink. For convenience, you can use a universal tool – the wheel of coffee flavors. It has collected the most common flavors that professionals have ever observed in brewed coffee. At first, it will be difficult for you to find notes of papaya and jasmine in a cup, but with experience it will become easier.
After such a detailed and careful description of the brewed coffee, you will definitely know the specific parameter that does not suit you. You need to fight with him when setting up a drink. By the way, we wrote about this earlier in the article “How to brew delicious espresso?” 🙂
A cup of tea with a sandwich. Is it possible to combine invigorating drinks with food | Nutrition and diet | kitchen0002 Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

A cup of tea during lunch, a snack with sandwiches or sandwiches for a cup of coffee, the same coffee at breakfast is a common thing, but is it healthy? Is it possible to drink hot invigorating drinks with food, how do they affect digestion, the absorption of vitamins and minerals? We deal with a gastroenterologist.
Digestion
Many people think that food should not be washed down at all, and even more so it is harmful to drink it with hot drinks such as tea or coffee – supposedly this will negatively affect the digestive system. “It’s not like that,” says Rustem Sadykov, PhD, nutritionist, gastroenterologist, clinical pharmacologist . – Drinking tea or coffee with meals does not significantly affect digestion and does not reduce the activity of the digestive system. Studies show that the impact of these drinks on digestion is minimal, and the natural processes of digestion in the body are hardly affected.
However, the combination of a lot of drinks and food is not a very healthy story. The main problem is the dilution of saliva. “Food should be fermented by saliva in the mouth during chewing (it is not for nothing that it is recommended to chew food thoroughly,” Sadykov clarifies. “If we drink every bite, tossing food and drinks in our mouths, saliva doesn’t process the food bolus well enough.”
Hot plus hot
There are concerns about the temperature of drinks: is it possible to drink hot tea with hot scrambled eggs, for example. “There is no scientific evidence indicating any harm from combining tea or coffee with hot or cold food,” the gastroenterologist reassures. – The temperature of the drink does not interfere with the digestion process. However, it is important to note that excessively hot or cold drinks can cause discomfort or interfere with the enjoyment of food, as well as damage the mucous membranes.
Therefore, it is better to avoid too hot drinks, however, as well as scalding dishes. Contrasting combinations of a hot drink and cold food, such as ice cream, are also not useful. Such a temperature difference can adversely affect tooth enamel, microcracks can form in it.
Vitamins and minerals
Finally, the most important question: can tea or coffee interfere with the absorption of beneficial substances found in food? And here the answer is positive. Is it possible. For example, tea contains tannins, compounds that can bind to iron and reduce its absorption by the body. “Therefore, drinking tea with iron-rich foods, such as spinach or red meat, may interfere with iron absorption,” Sadykov warns.
For dessert
Most often we drink tea or coffee with desserts. This is already a kind of ritual – to complete the meal with tea. The expert believes that this combination is not associated with inherent risks to digestion. “But it is important to remember the sugar content in both the drink and the dessert,” Sadykov recalls. Excessive intake of added sugars can contribute to a variety of health problems, including weight gain and an increased risk of chronic disease. Choosing unsweetened or minimally sweetened teas or coffees and healthier desserts can help alleviate these concerns.” And it is also very important: sweets, dishes containing a large amount of simple carbohydrates, should be consumed only after a full meal.
One should not forget about the individual reaction of the body to foods, drinks and their combinations. You need to constantly listen to the body’s reaction to everything you eat and drink. Even if these combinations are quite familiar to you, you can simply ignore the discomfort that occurs after eating. “If this happens, if you observe side effects from combining tea or coffee with food, then, of course, you need to adjust your diet,” the gastroenterologist concludes.
