What are the key features of the Nike Vandal High Supreme in Black, White, and Cool Grey. How does this colorway contribute to the sneaker’s resurgence. Why is the Nike Vandal High Supreme making a comeback in the sneaker market.
The Iconic Return of Nike Vandal High Supreme
The Nike Vandal High Supreme is experiencing a notable resurgence in the sneaker world, with the latest Black, White, and Cool Grey colorway capturing attention. This classic silhouette, originally introduced in the early 1980s, has been reimagined with a contemporary twist while maintaining its iconic design elements.
Key Features of the Black, White, and Cool Grey Colorway
- Black nylon upper for durability and style
- White lateral and medial Swoosh logos
- Subtle grey underlying Swoosh for added depth
- Removable ankle strap with tri-color stripes
- White midsole and black outsole for contrast
- Nike Air logo on tongue and heel
This color combination offers a versatile and timeless look, appealing to both sneaker enthusiasts and casual wearers alike. The use of multiple shades and textures adds visual interest to the shoe, making it a standout piece in any outfit.
The Significance of Nike Vandal’s Comeback
The reemergence of the Nike Vandal High Supreme raises an intriguing question: Why is this retro silhouette gaining popularity once again? The answer lies in a combination of factors:
- Nostalgia for classic sneaker designs
- Increased interest in vintage-inspired fashion
- Nike’s strategy to revive iconic models
- The sneaker’s versatility and timeless appeal
As fashion trends continue to cycle, we’re seeing a renewed appreciation for sneakers that have stood the test of time. The Vandal High Supreme embodies this sentiment, offering a blend of retro charm and modern sensibility.
Comparing the Vandal High Supreme to Other Nike Classics
How does the Nike Vandal High Supreme stack up against other iconic Nike silhouettes? While models like the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1 have maintained consistent popularity, the Vandal offers a unique alternative for sneaker enthusiasts seeking something different yet familiar.
Vandal vs. Air Force 1
- Both feature a high-top design
- Vandal has a slimmer profile compared to the AF1
- Ankle strap is unique to the Vandal
- AF1 typically uses leather, while Vandal often incorporates nylon
Vandal vs. Air Jordan 1
- Similar era of origin (early 1980s)
- Vandal has a more streamlined appearance
- AJ1 is more closely associated with basketball heritage
- Vandal offers a more accessible price point
These comparisons highlight the Vandal’s unique position in Nike’s lineup, offering a distinct aesthetic that sets it apart from other classic models.
The Evolution of Nike Vandal Collaborations
The Nike Vandal has been the subject of several high-profile collaborations in recent years, further cementing its place in sneaker culture. These partnerships have breathed new life into the silhouette, introducing innovative designs and materials.
Supreme x Nike Vandal High
In 2017, streetwear giant Supreme collaborated with Nike on a series of metallic Vandal High colorways. This release helped reintroduce the Vandal to a new generation of sneaker enthusiasts, sparking renewed interest in the model.
Stüssy x Nike Vandal
Building on the momentum of their successful Air Force 1 collaborations, Stüssy has now turned its attention to the Vandal. The upcoming release features a textured hemp upper, offering a fresh take on the classic silhouette.
These collaborations demonstrate the Vandal’s versatility as a canvas for creative expression, allowing designers to reinterpret the shoe while maintaining its core identity.
The Role of Materials in Nike Vandal’s Design
One of the key factors in the Nike Vandal’s enduring appeal is its use of materials. How do these choices impact the shoe’s performance and aesthetics?
Nylon Upper
- Lightweight and breathable
- Offers flexibility and comfort
- Provides a distinct textural contrast to leather sneakers
Canvas Variations
- Durable and easy to maintain
- Allows for vibrant color applications
- Offers a more casual, laid-back aesthetic
Leather Accents
- Add structure and support to key areas
- Provide a premium touch to the overall design
- Enhance the shoe’s durability
The combination of these materials contributes to the Vandal’s unique look and feel, setting it apart from other sneakers in Nike’s lineup.
The Cultural Impact of Nike Vandal
Beyond its design and collaborations, the Nike Vandal has left an indelible mark on popular culture. From its origins in basketball to its adoption by various subcultures, the Vandal’s journey is a fascinating study in sneaker history.
Basketball Heritage
Originally designed as a performance basketball shoe, the Vandal quickly found favor among players for its lightweight construction and ankle support. Its transition from the court to the streets mirrors the evolution of many iconic sneakers.
Skateboarding Adoption
In the 1980s and 1990s, skateboarders embraced the Vandal for its durable construction and ankle protection. This crossover appeal helped establish the shoe’s street credibility beyond the basketball court.
Film and Television Appearances
The Vandal has made several notable appearances in popular media, including:
- “The Terminator” (1984): Worn by Kyle Reese, cementing its futuristic appeal
- “Back to the Future” (1985): Featured as part of Marty McFly’s iconic outfit
- Various music videos and album covers in the 1980s and 1990s
These cultural touchpoints have contributed to the Vandal’s enduring legacy and its ability to resonate with multiple generations of sneaker enthusiasts.
The Future of Nike Vandal: Trends and Predictions
As the Nike Vandal continues its resurgence, what can we expect from future releases and collaborations? Several trends and factors are likely to shape the shoe’s trajectory:
Sustainable Materials
With increasing focus on environmental responsibility, we may see Nike incorporate more sustainable materials into the Vandal’s construction. This could include recycled nylon, organic cotton canvas, or eco-friendly leather alternatives.
Technology Integration
While maintaining its classic silhouette, future Vandal releases might incorporate modern Nike technologies such as React foam or Flyease accessibility features, enhancing comfort and performance.
Expanded Collaboration Network
Building on the success of partnerships with Supreme and Stüssy, Nike may seek collaborations with a broader range of designers, artists, and brands to keep the Vandal fresh and relevant.
Limited Edition Releases
To maintain excitement and exclusivity, Nike might focus on limited runs and special editions of the Vandal, catering to collectors and sneaker enthusiasts.
These potential developments suggest a bright future for the Nike Vandal, as it continues to evolve while honoring its rich heritage.
Styling the Nike Vandal High Supreme
The versatility of the Nike Vandal High Supreme, particularly in its Black, White, and Cool Grey colorway, makes it a valuable addition to any wardrobe. Here are some styling tips to make the most of this iconic sneaker:
Casual Streetwear
- Pair with distressed jeans and a graphic tee for an effortless street look
- Layer with a denim or leather jacket for added edge
- Accessorize with a snapback cap or beanie for a 90s-inspired vibe
Athleisure
- Combine with tapered joggers and a fitted hoodie for a sporty ensemble
- Add a technical jacket for a more performance-oriented look
- Incorporate moisture-wicking fabrics for a functional athletic outfit
Smart Casual
- Contrast with chinos and a button-down shirt for a dressed-up sneaker look
- Layer with a blazer for an unexpected twist on business casual
- Choose monochromatic pieces to let the Vandal’s design stand out
The key to styling the Nike Vandal High Supreme is to embrace its versatility while allowing its unique design elements to shine. Whether dressed up or down, these sneakers add a touch of classic cool to any outfit.
Collecting and Caring for Nike Vandals
For sneaker enthusiasts and collectors, the Nike Vandal represents an opportunity to own a piece of footwear history. Here are some tips for building and maintaining a Vandal collection:
Collecting Strategies
- Focus on original colorways and historically significant releases
- Keep an eye out for limited edition collaborations
- Consider both deadstock (unworn) and vintage pairs for a diverse collection
- Stay informed about upcoming releases through sneaker news outlets and Nike’s official channels
Care and Maintenance
- Clean nylon uppers with a soft brush and mild soap solution
- Use a specialized sneaker cleaner for tougher stains
- Stuff shoes with paper when not in use to maintain shape
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration
- Consider using sneaker shields to prevent creasing in the toe box
By following these collecting and care guidelines, enthusiasts can ensure their Nike Vandals remain in top condition for years to come, preserving both their aesthetic appeal and potential value.
The Nike Vandal High Supreme in Black, White, and Cool Grey represents more than just a sneaker; it’s a testament to enduring design and cultural significance. As it continues to evolve and captivate new generations of wearers, the Vandal remains a vital part of Nike’s legacy and the broader sneaker culture landscape.
Nike Vandal High Supreme Black/Grey Release Info
The small resurgence of Nike’s Vandal High Supreme continues with another colorway. The Swoosh adds black and white color blocking with grey detailing throughout the upper for a familiar contrast. Nylon is added to the upper in black while both lateral and media Swoosh logos are coated in white and met with a subtle grey underlying Swoosh.
A removable strap returns to the ankle of the sneaker hosting the combo of black, grey and white on its stripes. A white midsole and black outsole close out the design while the Swoosh’s Nike Air logo is seen on the tongue and heel.
Retailing for $90 USD, this iteration of the Nike Vandal High Supreme is currently available at select Nike Sportswear retailers.

Stüssy and Nike simply cannot be stopped. Their sneaker collaborations are no longer a surprise but a seasonal expectation, what with the deluge of limited basketball shoes and studded Chuck Taylors they’ve dished in recent months.
Next up, presumably tired of designing both dyed low-top and minimalist mid-top AF1s, Stüssy has developed its own Nike Vandal, revising an early ’80s basketball shoe arguably rendered obsolete by the Air Force 1.
Perhaps Stüssy sees this Vandal collab as an opportunity to refresh a forgotten classic of Nike’s basketball repertoire.

Well, at least, the Vandal used to be forgotten. Like the Nike Terminator, another recently revived shoe, the Vandal quietly returned from the bench in the early 2000s with a handful of occasional colorways and updates.
Its last high-profile moment came from Supreme, which rebirthed the Vandal in metallic hues back in 2017.
Stüssy, meanwhile, is opting for a more textural take that again draws parallels to the standout Nike Air Force 1 sneakers it delivered in 2021.
The first leaked images of the Stüssy x Nike Vandal showcased a mid-top blue and black sneaker with a knitted hemp upper and Swoosh to match. The result doesn’t hit quite as hard as those incredibly handsome beige AF1 lows — another hemp shoe — but, then, what would?
There are two additional Stüssy x Nike Vandal colorways, which mostly utilize neutral black and white shades, aside from the silver Swoosh on the former. These new colorways can’t quite affect the vibe of Stüssy’s beautiful beige AF1 sneakers but they’re appreciated.

The Nike collab’s reveal is just part of another strong season from Stüssy, one that could yet invite further collaborations on underrated Nike sneakers if the on-feets are to be taken as anything beyond styling cue.
Not that it needs to be said but Stüssy is very much on top of the streetwear world right now, its seasonal drops coveted and its collaborative shoes coveted.
The Nike Vandal collab likely won’t be a showstopper but it’s another feather in Stüssy’s already well-decorated hat. Nothing to complain about here.

Run Forrest Run: 10 iconic pairs of sneakers in movies In honor of this event, we recall the protagonist’s sneakers, which became iconic after the release of the movie.
And in what other pictures is it worth paying attention to the shoes of the heroes.
Nike Cortez in Forrest Gump (1994)
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, a moving drama based on the novel of the same name by Winston Groom tells the story of Forrest Gump, a mentally retarded man with a good heart. As a child, Forrest becomes a victim of bullies, but runs away from them to the cries of his school friend Jenny: “Run, Forrest, run!”. Jenny and running are forever in Forrest’s heart and help him move forward and get through the tough times. And already adult Jenny, with whom he is hopelessly in love, will give Forrest a pair of Nike Cortez sneakers.
“Forrest Gump” won six Oscars, including Best Director and Best Actor, the latter being the perpetually charming Tom Hanks. The moment when Jenny gives Forrest a sneaker that appeared in the Nike line in 1972 is still considered one of the best sneaker sequences in cinema. By the way, the Nike Cortez model is almost an exact copy of the Onitsuka Tiger Corsair sneakers, which today can also be bought in the same colors as Forrest Gump.
Nike Vandal Highs in The Terminator (1984)
James Cameron’s The Terminator can be considered a phenomenal film, so firmly established in the history of cinema. According to the story, a terminator robot from 2029 arrives in Los Angeles in 1984 to kill Sarah Connor, whose child in the future will be the key to humanity’s victory in the war against machines. A soldier from the 21st century, Kyle Reese, is sent to save Sarah.
In the memorable scene of arriving in the past, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator appears naked. Kyle Reese, too, has to procure clothes for himself, including black and white Nike Vandal sneakers. In the sequel to The Terminator, these shoes are back, along with their wearer character.
Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 in The Game of Death (1978)
The last film of the legendary Bruce Lee was destined to become a cult film, also because Lee died before the end of filming – the producers finished the film with the help of understudies. In his action movie, Lee played the lead role of martial arts veteran Billy Bo, who is forced to compete with the Korean mafia, who kidnapped his sister and brother.
For a significant and most dramatic part of the film, the protagonist wears a yellow and black set of longsleeve, sweatpants and sneakers. The shoes on the screen can be seen in two color variations – yellow with black and white with black. This was not the first appearance of Bruce Lee on the screen in Onitsuka Tiger sneakers, so it can be said that the actor significantly contributed to the popularization of the brand, including abroad. After all, his militants were exported to the United States and even to the USSR. By the way, later the image from the “Game of Death”, and the film itself inspired Quentin Tarantino to “Kill Bill”.
adidas Samba in Trainspotting (1996)
Another cult film on the list is Danny Boyle’s British comedy-drama based on Irvine Welsh’s novel of the same name about a quartet of drug addicts and bums. The story is told from the point of view of one of the main characters, 26-year-old Scot Mark “Redhead” Renton, played by Ewan McGregor. Renton can’t quit and constantly gets into ridiculous adventures because of drugs and his own immaturity. One of the notable wardrobe details that reveals the personality of the character is maroon adidas Samba sneakers (presumably the Samba Super).
The sneakers first appear in the scene when Renton goes to the robbery that will take him to court – and get several close-ups at once. After that, the character walks in them until the very end. The choice of brand and model is not surprising: in the 1980s, with the rise of the near-football culture, adidas sneakers became an integral part of the hooligan movement, along with Stone Island jackets and Burberry plaid scarves. And the “football” Samba, which appeared back in the 1950s, is one of the best-selling models. The adidas brand has become so entrenched in British culture that it is still associated with Britpop, no wonder Noel Gallagher of the Oasis group collects sneakers from this particular company.
Onitsuka Tiger Tai Chi in Kill Bill (2003)
As mentioned above, one of Quentin Tarantino’s main inspirations was Bruce Lee’s action movies. And the main character of Kill Bill, the former hitman Beatrix, played by Uma Thurman, spends almost all screen time in a yellow and black suit and re-released Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66, which completely repeats the clothes of the protagonist in Game of Death.
As the model’s name suggests, it was inspired by the shoes worn by athletes practicing tai chi, a martial art, a type of wushu. In September 2019Asics, of which the Onitsuka Tiger brand is a part, announced the release of an updated model of these sneakers, which made it easier to get yourself a pair.
Reebok Alien Stomper in Alien (1979)
Ridley Scott’s Alien is a sci-fi classic that won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Almost all the events of the picture take place on the Nostromo space cargo ship, the crew of which catches a strange signal from the planet LV-426 and, according to the instructions, goes to find out what is happening there. As a result, a previously unknown life form penetrates the ship, and only officer Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, manages to escape.
The original red/gray/beige Alien Stomper sneakers were designed specifically for Ripley, who at the end of the film effectively cracks down on the Alien while wearing this pair. Last year, this model was re-released in honor of the fortieth anniversary of the picture, but even before that, Reebok periodically made releases for fans of the Alien franchise.
Nike Air Mag in Back to the Future 2 (1989)
Arguably Nike’s most famous and most expensive shoe, the self-lacing shoe worn by Marty McFly in the Back to the Future sequel. 2015, in which supposedly everyone wore such sneakers, at the time of filming at 1988 seemed very far away. In the future, as it was imagined by the director of the film, Robert Zemeckis, in addition to incredible sneakers, holographic advertising, flying cars and flying skateboards (hoverboards) were attached.
In 1988, Nike specifically created a unique sneaker for the most memorable product placement in film history, and Robert Zemeckis then returned to the tradition of impressive product placements with the same brand in Forrest Gump. Years after the release of Back to the Future 2, movie and sneaker fans sighed about wanting a pair like this, but Nike was only able to release the actual Air Mags in 2015 and only in limited editions.
Nike Air Jordan 4 in Do the Right Thing! (1989)
Sneakers are an important part of African American culture, once highly valued in disadvantaged areas. Largely because for many years sport was the main social elevator for the black population of the United States – young African Americans could make a bright career either in crime or in basketball. It’s no surprise that movies revolving around basketball are filled with variations of the Nike Air Jordan. However, the high point of these sneakers does not have to be associated with basketball players. Director, screenwriter and actor Spike Lee is one of black America’s top film singers, and although he also has basketball films, people who are far from sports also wear Air Jordans.
“Do the right thing!” talks about a young, unambitious African American, Muki, played by Spike Lee himself. Mookie lives in Brooklyn and works at a local pizzeria to provide for herself, her son, and his mother. Everything would be fine, but the son of the owner of the pizzeria is rude and intolerant, which does not contribute to a peaceful atmosphere. Muka has a friend called Buggin Out (Giancarlo Esposito) strutting around the neighborhood in brand-new white Nike Air Jordan 4s, and it is he who is at the center of one of the most memorable scenes in the film when he gets pissed off by a passerby who steps on his sneakers and leaves a dirty mark on the fresh white surface of the hero’s favorite shoes. Later, Buggin Out sneakers were released in a special release with this very trace.
adidas Stan Smith in Blade Runner
Director Ridley Scott crosses noir with sci-fi in the breathtaking Blade Runner, and retired detective Rick Deckard plays the role of the film’s protagonist. The character living between humans and android replicants, played by Harrison Ford, wears a trench coat, tie and trousers, quite canonical for noir, but complements this ensemble not with shoes, but with absolutely black unmarked sneakers very reminiscent of them from afar.
Despite the lack of visible markings, it is known that Deckard’s utilitarian sneakers for a dystopian future are adidas Stan Smith tennis shoes, one of the brand’s most popular models, which has long since become independent from the athlete whose name it bears. In the end, the glory of tennis player Stan Smith, albeit a great one in his time, remained in the 60-70s of the XX century, but the sneaker model existed before his name was put on it, and continues to be successfully sold today.
adidas Rom Zissou in Aquatic Life (2004)
Visual perfectionist director Wes Anderson is a well-known admirer of the adidas brand, so it’s not surprising that the company made a pair of sneakers especially for one of Anderson’s films, especially since it’s not anyone who wears it in the frame, but Bill Murray himself, who played the lead in Aquatic Life role, Captain Steve Zissou – a charming, but sometimes not very pleasant man at the zenith of fame, and also, paradoxically, a loser.
