Young Knight’s first business strategy was to buy sneakers in Japan and then sell them in the US. In 1962, he founded the company, giving it the name Blue Ribbon Sports. Two years later, Phil Knight invited his coach, Bill Baurman, to cooperate. They built their joint business on personal contacts. In particular, sneakers were sold to acquaintances, friends, former classmates and novice athletes.
As the company expanded, new employees appeared. One of them was Jeff Johnson. It is to him that the company owes its name. One day, the goddess of victory Nika came to him in a dream, and in her honor the new brand received the world-famous name Nike. Beginning in 1966, Johnson made the first samples of his own branded sneakers.
The office and at the same time the point of sale for the company was a small room in Santa Monica.
First sneakers
The first pair of running shoes produced by the company became known as “marathon runners”.
