How does Nike clothing fit. Is Nike clothing comfortable. Does Nike run true to size. What is the quality of Nike apparel. How to style Nike clothing for different occasions.
Understanding Nike’s Sizing and Fit
When it comes to Nike clothing, one of the most common questions is whether it runs true to size. Based on insights from various Nike enthusiasts, the consensus is that Nike generally fits true to size. However, there are some nuances to consider:
- For a looser, more relaxed fit, sizing up is often recommended
- Nike tracksuits tend to run slightly larger
- Leggings and sports bras typically fit true to size
- Sweatpants may be longer, so consider sizing down if you’re shorter
Do Nike sizes vary between different product lines? While there’s generally consistency across Nike’s range, it’s always wise to check the specific size guide for each item. Some product lines may have slight variations in fit to accommodate different activities or style preferences.
Comfort Factor: Why Nike Apparel Stands Out
Comfort is a crucial aspect of any clothing, especially when it comes to athletic and loungewear. Nike has built a reputation for producing some of the most comfortable apparel on the market. Here’s why Nike clothing is often praised for its comfort:
- High-quality materials that provide warmth without overheating
- Elasticated waistbands that move with your body
- Absence of irritating labels
- Fabrics that shape to your body over time
How does Nike ensure comfort across different product types? Nike employs various technologies and design features to enhance comfort. For instance, their Dri-FIT technology wicks away sweat, while their Therma-FIT fabrics provide insulation in colder conditions.
Quality Assessment of Nike Clothing
The quality of Nike clothing is generally regarded as good, especially considering its price point. However, as with any brand, the perception of quality can vary based on individual experiences and expectations. Here are some key points about Nike’s clothing quality:
- Durable materials that withstand regular use
- Well-constructed seams and stitching
- Consistent performance across different product lines
- Potential for wear and tear over extended periods, particularly with high-intensity use
How often should you replace your Nike apparel? For items like leggings and sports bras that undergo frequent, intense use, it’s recommended to replace them every few years to maintain optimal performance and support.
Styling Nike: From Workout to Casual Wear
Nike’s versatility extends beyond the gym, making it a popular choice for casual everyday wear. Here are some styling tips to make the most of your Nike apparel:
- Pair Nike leggings with a sports bra and Nike Shox for a complete workout look
- Combine a Nike sweatshirt with mom jeans for a casual, street-style outfit
- Wear Nike joggers with a cropped tee and Dunks for a trendy, athleisure ensemble
- Layer an oversized Nike jumper over bike shorts with Air Force 1s for a spring-ready look
Can Nike clothing be dressed up for more formal occasions? While primarily casual, some Nike pieces can be incorporated into smart-casual outfits. For example, a crisp Nike polo shirt could work well with chinos for a relaxed business casual look.
Nike’s Loungewear Revolution: Comfort Meets Style
With the rise of remote work and increased focus on comfort, Nike’s loungewear has gained significant popularity. The brand has successfully bridged the gap between style and comfort, offering co-ord tracksuits and other loungewear pieces that are perfect for working from home or relaxing.
Why has Nike loungewear become so popular? Several factors contribute to its appeal:
- Versatility for both indoor and outdoor wear
- Stylish designs that don’t compromise on comfort
- Wide range of colors and styles to suit various preferences
- Ability to mix and match pieces for different looks
Nike’s Sportswear: Performance and Functionality
While Nike excels in casual and loungewear, its roots lie in sportswear. The brand continues to produce high-performance apparel designed to enhance athletic performance. Key features of Nike’s sportswear include:
- Moisture-wicking fabrics to keep you dry during workouts
- Compression technology for muscle support
- Breathable materials for temperature regulation
- Ergonomic designs for unrestricted movement
How does Nike balance performance and style in its sportswear? Nike invests heavily in research and development to create innovative fabrics and designs that offer both functionality and aesthetic appeal. This approach allows athletes to perform at their best while looking good on and off the field.
Affordability and Value: Nike’s Pricing Strategy
Nike’s pricing strategy aims to make its products accessible to a wide range of consumers while maintaining a premium brand image. Here’s what you need to know about Nike’s pricing:
- Regular sales and discounts offered throughout the year
- Student discounts available for eligible customers
- Price points that balance quality with affordability
- Various product lines at different price points to cater to different budgets
Is Nike clothing worth the investment? Many consumers find that Nike’s combination of style, comfort, and durability justifies its price point. The brand’s reputation for quality and its extensive range of products make it a popular choice for both athletic and casual wear.
Nike’s Commitment to Sustainability
In recent years, Nike has made significant strides in its sustainability efforts, which can impact both the quality and appeal of its products. The brand has implemented several initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint:
- Use of recycled materials in product manufacturing
- Reduction of waste in the production process
- Development of more sustainable dyeing techniques
- Implementation of take-back programs for used products
How does Nike’s focus on sustainability affect its products? While maintaining its commitment to performance and style, Nike has introduced eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes. This can sometimes result in slight variations in texture or appearance, but generally does not compromise the overall quality or functionality of the products.
The Impact of Nike’s Sizing on Different Body Types
Nike’s sizing aims to accommodate a wide range of body types, but it’s important to recognize that fit can vary depending on individual body shapes. Here are some considerations for different body types:
- Taller individuals may find Nike’s clothing, especially pants and joggers, to be a good fit in terms of length
- Those with a more athletic build might appreciate the roomier fit in shoulders and chest areas of tops
- Petite individuals may need to consider sizing down, particularly in bottoms
- Curvier body types might find certain lines more accommodating than others
How can you determine the best Nike size for your body type? It’s recommended to take accurate measurements of your body and compare them to Nike’s size charts. Additionally, reading customer reviews for specific products can provide insights into how they fit different body types.
Nike’s Approach to Gender-Neutral Sizing
In recent years, Nike has made strides towards more inclusive sizing options, including gender-neutral collections. This approach aims to provide more flexibility and options for consumers who may not fit traditional gendered sizing norms. Key aspects of Nike’s gender-neutral sizing include:
- Extended size ranges in certain product lines
- Unisex designs that cater to various body types
- Consistent sizing across men’s and women’s lines for easier shopping
How does gender-neutral sizing affect the fit of Nike clothing? Gender-neutral sizing often provides a more relaxed, versatile fit that can accommodate a wider range of body types. However, it’s still important to consult size charts and consider your individual preferences for fit when selecting items.
The Role of Customer Reviews in Nike Sizing
Customer reviews can be an invaluable resource when determining the right size for Nike clothing. Many online retailers, including Nike’s own website, feature customer reviews that often include information about sizing and fit. Here’s how to make the most of these reviews:
- Look for reviews from customers with similar body types or sizing concerns
- Pay attention to comments about whether the item runs small, large, or true to size
- Consider reviews that mention specific measurements or comparisons to other brands
- Take note of any consistent themes across multiple reviews
Are customer reviews always reliable for determining Nike sizing? While customer reviews can be helpful, it’s important to remember that fit is subjective and can vary based on personal preferences. Use reviews as a guideline, but also consider official size charts and your own measurements when making a decision.
Nike’s Sizing Across Different Product Categories
While Nike strives for consistency in sizing across its product lines, there can be slight variations depending on the specific category of clothing. Understanding these nuances can help you make more informed purchasing decisions:
Tops and T-Shirts
Generally true to size, with some styles designed for a looser fit. Consider sizing up for a more relaxed look.
Sweatshirts and Hoodies
Often run slightly larger to accommodate layering. If you prefer a snugger fit, consider sizing down.
Pants and Joggers
Tend to have a longer inseam. Shorter individuals might need to size down or consider cropped styles.
Leggings and Tights
Usually true to size with a snug, compressive fit. Size up if you prefer less compression.
Sports Bras
Fit can vary based on the level of support. High-impact bras might feel tighter than low-impact options.
Shorts
Length and fit can vary widely between styles. Check product descriptions for inseam measurements.
How can you ensure consistent sizing across different Nike product categories? When shopping across categories, always refer to the specific size chart for each product. Don’t assume that your size in one category will be the same in another.
The Influence of Fabric Choice on Nike’s Sizing and Fit
The type of fabric used in Nike clothing can significantly impact how an item fits and feels. Different materials have varying levels of stretch, breathability, and durability, which can affect sizing considerations:
- Cotton blends: May shrink slightly after washing, consider sizing up if you’re between sizes
- Synthetic materials (like polyester): Often more resistant to shrinkage and maintain their shape better
- Stretchy fabrics (containing elastane or spandex): Provide more flexibility in sizing
- Performance fabrics: May fit more snugly to enhance moisture-wicking properties
How does fabric choice affect the longevity of Nike clothing? Synthetic and performance fabrics often retain their shape and size better over time compared to natural fibers. However, proper care according to the garment’s instructions is crucial for maintaining fit and quality regardless of the fabric type.
Nike’s Sizing for Children and Youth
Nike offers a range of sizes for children and youth, but sizing in this category can be particularly tricky due to rapid growth and varying body proportions. Here are some tips for navigating Nike’s children’s sizing:
- Use Nike’s size chart that correlates age with height and weight
- Consider buying slightly larger sizes to accommodate growth
- Look for adjustable features like drawstrings or elastic waistbands for a more adaptable fit
- Be aware that youth sizes may overlap with adult sizes, offering more options for older children
How often should you reassess a child’s Nike size? Given children’s rapid growth, it’s advisable to check their measurements against Nike’s size chart every few months, especially before making new purchases.
The Future of Nike Sizing: Innovations and Trends
As technology advances and consumer needs evolve, Nike continues to innovate in the realm of sizing and fit. Some emerging trends and potential future developments include:
- 3D body scanning technology for more precise size recommendations
- Customizable and made-to-measure options for certain product lines
- Expanded size ranges to be more inclusive of diverse body types
- Smart fabrics that adapt to the wearer’s body and movements
How might these innovations impact the way we shop for Nike clothing in the future? As sizing technology becomes more sophisticated, we may see a shift towards more personalized shopping experiences, potentially reducing the need for returns due to sizing issues and improving overall customer satisfaction.

Now we’re working from home, I literally live in my Nike tracksuits.
How does Nike clothing fit?
When it comes to Nike tracksuits, I find they run big! I’m an 8-10, so if I want a baggier fit, I go for small/medium but if I need a regular fit, I have no issues going for a size extra small, because they are catered to slightly taller people, I size down where possible. With Nike leggings and sports bras, I’ll get a small, but I always double check the size guide on the shopping page just in case. Oh, and check the reviews if there are any!
Is Nike clothing comfortable?
Now we’re working from home, I literally live in my Nike tracksuits. To make sure they’re extra comfy, I’ll get one size bigger so it’s loose and warm. I’m a fan of matching sets so Nike’s co-ords are perfect for me.
Is Nike clothing good quality?
I like my joggers and sweatshirts to be thick and warm and I find that Nike always ticks these boxes for me! I think Nike clothing is really well made.
How do you style your Nike clothing?
Right now, the at-home styling is all about a matching Nike set with a pair of socks and slides. I’m lucky that I can be casual on work calls! When lockdown ends, I’ll definitely be wearing my Nike tracksuits with my favourite Air Force 1s.

Right now, I eat, sleep and workout in my Nike tracksuits (thanks, lockdown!)
How does Nike clothing fit?
Nike clothing definitely fits true to size, but I always size up because I like my clothing to be quite loose and relaxed. When it comes to joggers, I always go for size medium and with sweatshirts I get a large or XL – this way, I can wear the jumper as a dress or with some cycling shorts in the spring!
Is Nike clothing comfortable?
Nike tracksuits are the comfiest ones out there for me! They’re thick (but not so thick that you overheat), the elasticated waist moves with you and there’s never any annoying itchy labels.
Is Nike clothing good quality?
For the price, Nike clothing is really good quality! Of course, you’re going to get better quality with brands like Fear of God ESSENTIALS because the price point is a lot higher, but for £40, I can’t fault the quality of Nike’s joggers and sweatshirts.
How do you style your Nike clothing?
I don’t. Right now, I eat, sleep and workout in my tracksuits (thanks, lockdown!) But when everything’s normal, I style my joggers with a cropped tee and my fave sneakers of the moment, or I’ll team my oversized jumper with some bike shorts and Air Force 1s.

I use Nike clothing a lot for my at-home yoga sessions.
How does Nike clothing fit?
I use Nike clothing a lot for my at-home yoga sessions. I find the leggings and sports bras fit true to size! They can be a little snug at first, but once you wear them in, they shape to your body and fit like a glove. The sweatpants are quite long, so I’d recommend sizing down on these but you can always roll up the legs to achieve a desired fit.
Is Nike clothing comfortable?
Nike clothing is SO comfortable. From their T-shirts and sweatshirts to leggings and joggers, everything’s made to fit perfectly and I’m a big fan of an oversized fit.
Is Nike clothing good quality?
Like any other brand, the quality of Nike clothing changes over time! I’ve had leggings that are amazing for the first couple of years but they start to thin a little over time and become a little see-through – so I always buy a new pair every few years and the same with sports bras, it’s great to swap them out every so often!
How do you style your Nike clothing?
I wear Nike clothing everywhere. I’ll wear leggings and a sports bra with my Nike Shox, a sweatshirt with Mom jeans and joggers with a cropped tee and Dunks in the summer!

Nike is launching Nike Fit to scan your feet, tell you your shoe size
BEAVERTON, Ore. — Nike, the world’s biggest sneaker maker, wants to solve a problem it knows far too many people have: Which size shoes will fit?
Many shoppers have gone online and ordered multiple pairs of the same style shoe, in different sizes, planning to send back what doesn’t fit. The reasons are simple. Consumers often find they fit into different sizes — maybe a 7.5 women’s here, an 8.5 women’s there — depending on the brand and style. So, when it comes time to buy a new pair, there’s a lot of guessing going on.
It’s actually, very likely you don’t even know what your true shoe size is. Your feet could also be two entirely different sizes.
“Fit is such a big friction point for our customers,” said Michael Martin, Nike’s global head of digital products. “We reached a point of realizing this was not just the biggest problem but biggest transformational opportunity that we have. … No matter how good the shoe is, if the foot doesn’t fit well within the shoe, you’re not going to get peak performance from it. “
Now, Nike says it has a solution. The company will launch Nike Fit, a service being added in North America this July to its mobile app and in stores. Nike Fit will scan customers’ feet and determine the correct size. The service will roll out to Europe in August, moving to other international markets soon after.
Nike Fit is part of Nike’s bigger push to sell more products directly to consumers through its own shops, website and mobile app, relying less on wholesale partners than it has in the past. And so Nike is opening new stores, like its House of Innovation in New York and Nike Live in Los Angeles, designed specifically for those markets and selling items visitors can’t find anywhere else.
Nike said its direct sales in 2018 were up 12%, thanks to strong e-commerce growth and the opening of new stores. And it said direct-to-consumer revenue ended the year representing roughly 30% of total Nike brand sales, up from 28% in the prior year. With a market cap of roughly $130 billion, Nike has watched its shares climb nearly 22% over the past 12 months, outpacing the S&P 500 Retail ETF’s (XRT’s) decline of 1. 5%.
Nike Fit will also help the retailer better manage inventory, cut down on returns and even entice shoppers to buy more shoes, early beta testing of the technology showed.
Down to the millimeter
At its core, Nike Fit will work when a customer opens the Nike app, selects a shoe to buy, and then instead of selecting a numerical size, the shopper will be presented with the option to scan his or her foot straight using a smartphone. A scan can take less than 15 seconds. And then Nike Fit will recommend a size for that particular shoe being considered. That information — such as the width of the shoppers’ foot, down to the millimeter — will be saved for later purchases, too, because the size may vary with the style. Nike’s Air Jordan shoe, for example, fits differently than other sneakers.
In stores, Nike will have a similar experience, but a sales associate will do the scanning.

It’s staggering, data shows how many people are either squeezing into a shoe too small or have one falling off the foot.
At any given time, 3 in 5 people are wearing the wrong shoe size, based on industry research, Martin said. And the biggest reason for shoes being returned — whether they were purchased in store or online — is because of size, he said, adding that Nike receives more than 500,000 calls each year to its customer-service line related to sizing.
Return deliveries of all products will cost retailers $550 billion by 2020, according to estimates.
And, worse news for consumers, wearing the wrong size shoes can lead to injuries that can sideline them from playing a sport or from going to the gym. Foot injuries can also keep you from going to work. At least 60,000 foot injuries are responsible for keeping Americans out of the office each year, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Consumers more than ever want to have relationships with a brand. … Those [retailers] that are winning are serving personally.
Heidi O’Neill
president of Nike Direct
In 2018, Nike spent an undisclosed amount to acquire Invertex, a computer-vision firm based in Israel to make Nike Fit possible. Years before this deal was finalized, Invertex had already begun working on a way to scan feet via a smartphone and make sizing recommendations, using machine learning.
Invertex CEO David Bleicher said many companies were approaching him and his colleagues by 2017 for their technology. But he said Invertex ultimately chose to work Nike, viewing the retailer as an “innovation powerhouse.” Bleicher now heads a digital studio for Nike in Tel Aviv, where he says Invertex is working to solve “many other challenges” in the industry. “The bigger vision is to [help Nike] create better shoes,” he said.
The rollout of Nike Fit isn’t the first time Nike has tried to tackle the sizing issue.
In 2000, the company launched its Air Presto shoe — designed by Tobie Hatfield, brother of well-known Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield — in sizes like “small,” “medium” and “large,” mimicking how T-shirts are sized, not using numbers. But it was more of a test to see how shoppers reacted to the stretchy material in the Presto shoes and the T-shirt sizing. And Nike eventually went back to numerical sizing for the Presto about three years ago.
Barleycorn and Brannock devices
But numerical sizing can still be imprecise — and is incredible outdated.
The shoe sizing system is archaic, dating to the 1330s. It’s somewhat of an urban legend that the reigning king of England in 1334 wanted a pair of shoes custom made for him. And when they didn’t fit, he grew angry and decided to make some standard system of measurement, because there was none. The legend goes he declared three barleycorns, or grains of barley, were equal to an inch. And so 21 barleycorns became equivalent to a size 7 shoe, for example.
Fast forward to 1925, and the Brannock Device was made. That was an attempt by Charles Brannock to perfect the barleycorn method, adding a width measurement. You know, that (horribly uncomfortable) silver, metal tray that you slide your foot into, moving around little bars, to find your shoe size? That same Brannock is still found in Macy’s shoe departments, Foot Lockers and DSWs across the country today.
“It was all well-intentioned, and it all had a good purpose,” said Bill Tippit, a senior engineering director at Nike, about the Brannock. “We still use it today, but it really is the thing that just destroyed fit.”

Then, there are a handful of up-start sneaker makers that have been looking for ways to solve this problem, too.
A Brooklyn-based company called Atoms, which sells its shoes to people only through invitations, has designed its sneakers in quarter sizes and will send customers three pairs at once. Then, a shopper can pick the two shoes that fit the left and right foot best, even if they’re different quarter sizes.
Outside of shoes, bra-maker ThirdLove has embraced the idea of creating the perfect fit for women. It has a “fit finder” tool on its website for shoppers to answer questions and then receive personalized bra recommendations.
“The brands gaining favor with consumers today are ones who know how to relate,” said Raj Nijjer, vice president of marketing at Yotpo. “They dialogue with customers, hear their pain points, and more often than not discover there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all. The brands that win are the ones that embrace their customers’ individuality and deliver products with the perfect fit.”
Shoring up the top spot
Beyond educating its customers on sizing, and hopefully helping more people avoid injuries from wearing the wrong size shoe, this technology could also be a financial boon for Nike, with its dominant position in the sneaker industry.
According to NPD Group sports analyst Matt Powell, Nike is the No. 1 footwear brand in the U.S. in terms of sales, representing roughly one-third of the market, ahead of Adidas, with 11% of the market, and Under Armour. It also remains really hot among teens with money to spend.
“Nike is not in any danger of giving up No. 1 by any means,” Powell said. “The consumer today is looking for unique products,” which Nike continues to churn out, he said.
However, Adidas, while it still holds a smaller share of the U. S. market, has been growing sales in the U.S. at a faster rate. In its latest reported quarter, Adidas said North America sales grew by more than 11%, compared with a 7% gain in Nike’s sales in the region. Adidas is also ramping up for a sneaker collaboration with Beyonce, which is expected to generate momentum in the U.S.
In 2018, 64% of Nike brand revenues came from footwear — shoe sales were $22.27 billion out of $34.49 billion in total sales. That doesn’t include sales from Converse, which operates as a separate business within Nike, and so Converse sneakers won’t be compatible with Nike Fit.
Shoe sales were up 6% last year, excluding currency changes, thanks to strength in running, Nike said. But that was less than the 8% growth in footwear revenues in 2017, as Nike didn’t sell as many Jordan shoes in 2018.
When testing Nike Fit in stealth in three markets — Seattle, Pasadena, California, and Dallas — Martin said the company noticed conversion rates increased for the people who used Nike Fit to find the right shoe size, meaning those people were more likely to leave the store with a bag in their hands. They were also more likely to come back later and buy another pair of shoes. Nike said returns were down at those stores. And associates spent less time running back and forth to the stock room to gather other sizes.
It can also help Nike stock the right inventory. Martin explained that Nike, like many shoe brands, typically ships shoes in bulk to different regions based on a standard “curve” that’s long predicted for the industry how many people typically wear each shoe size. But he said that curve is not as exact as it could be. And so it’s easy for companies to end up with too many size 10 sneakers in one market, when it’s really the 9 that more of those people need to be wearing, for example. Data gathered from Nike Fit should help the company make its own curve of sorts.
“We’ve never had any data coming back to understand just how accurate is that distribution,” Martin said.
Nike Fit is expected to help Nike grow its membership base, which amounts to more than 150 million people worldwide today. A Nike membership is free to sign up for and offers members early access to new products, a birthday reward, the ability to chat with athletes for tips on merchandise or training, and on-the-go workouts from Nike’s app. The company says it’s on track to increase its membership base to 300 million people, as those shoppers spend 40% more than guest customers, on average.
During its six-month trial run of Nike Fit in three stores, Nike said the service was the strongest lever to boost membership sign-ups that it has found.

“Consumers more than ever want to have relationships with a brand. They don’t look at their experience with brands as transactional,” said Heidi O’Neill, president of Nike Direct. “You see a more premium, more personal retail environment. Those [retailers] that are winning are serving personally. “
Nike Fit is just the latest step in bringing a bigger vision to reality, according to Martin. He sees a day where shoe sizes don’t exist. A customer goes to buy a pair of shoes, a box shows up with those shoes inside, and instead of a number on the outside it’s your name — “Sarah” or “Michael.”
But that will also require more of the industry to get on board with the idea that the Brannock Device is seriously outdated, and that consumers deserve better fit.
“We think this is a problem people have been trying to solve for a long time,” O’Neill said. “But we feel super confident in our solution. … We know we are going to have a new level of trust from consumers.”
Athletic Gear Sizing Guides (By Brand)
It should be easy to determine which sizes of sportswear are right for you and your team, seeing as there are measurements to make our lives easier. Unfortunately, that’s rarely the case. Brands’ sizing can vary quite a bit, and those discrepancies are extremely important to know when you’re placing orders – especially bulk orders.
Since SquadLocker carries a large number of quality professional brands, we wanted to make life a little less confusing with this quick guide to sizing information. We can’t list guidelines for every size of every product, but we’ve made note of some of the major offenders. When possible, we’ve also included links to the sizing guides for each brand.
Choosing The Right Sizes By Brand
Adidas
Adidas is generally fairly close to true sizing, so you probably don’t have to worry much about making special orders. If they are going to be off-size, they are more likely to run a bit large – maybe half a size. The only major exception to this rule is that the brand’s exceptionally large shoe sizes run small, so you may want to overestimate if your shoe size is larger than average.
Adidas has a full sizing guide for their shoes and other gear available here.
Badger Sportswear
Badger Sportswear tends to be a reliable choice in terms of sizing. Most fits are true to what you expect. If there is any discrepancy with sizing, it’s likely to be a little small—although the vast majority of buyers are satisfied with their selected fit.
Badger doesn’t have one specific set of sizing charts, but every product on their website includes a sizing guide.
Champion
As a Hanes brand, Champion knows how to do sizing right. Most buyers have never had any major issues with their products being too large or too small. If we’re going to be really particular, they might be slightly larger than advertised – but not to any considerable extent.
If there’s any doubt, you can view their sizing chart here.
Mizuno
Mizuno is a relatively new brand in the United States, so it hasn’t had as much time to establish whether its gear runs large or small. In our own experience, their products seem to be pretty true-to-size, so you shouldn’t need to make too many major adjustments.
Nike
Nike is pretty well-known for running small, particularly their shoes. Unless you have narrow feet, you will almost certainly want to order a size larger. Those with particularly wide feet may need to go up 1 ½ sizes.
You can access all the various sizing charts for Nike here.
Russell Athletic
Unlike several other brands, Russell leans toward a larger, roomier fit. It is also a good brand for those who traditionally need XL+ sizes, as they carry a wider range of larger sizes than many other brands and tend to make them a bit larger. If you aren’t certain which size to order, try buying a size smaller than you might normally get.
Russell’s full sizing chart can be found here.
Sport-Tek
Sport-Tek is another brand that tends to be oversized, particularly in their menswear. They don’t run as large as Russell, so for most cases, you should be able to order your normal size and it’ll be fine.
Like Badger Sportswear, Sport-Tek doesn’t maintain a single size chart, but you should be able to find the specifics on any particular product on their website.
UnderArmour
UnderArmour definitely tends to prefer their clothes, particularly shoes, run on the small, snug side. Order a larger size if you prefer to have a roomier fit. This is also true if you’re ordering for someone with a wide chest, as their tighter fit may be constricting.

FIND YOUR SIZE
Use the chart below to determine your size. If one of your measurements is on the borderline between two sizes, order the smaller size for a tighter fit or the larger size for a looser fit. If your measurements for hips and waist correspond to two different suggested sizes, order the one indicated by your hip measurement.

Do NFL Nike Football Jerseys Run Big or Small? – Sports Fan Focus
In this article we discuss NFL jersey sizing, using photos. There are 5 main jersey types, and they all fit a bit different. In general, some NFL jerseys fit big, but it depends on jersey type.
Here’s how I would rank the fit of the 5 different NFL jersey types, from slimmest fit to loosest fit:
**this post contains affiliate links (info)
- Nike Elite Jersey – Athletic Fit – (click here to view)
- Nike Limited Jersey – Regular Fit – (click here to view)
- Nike Legend Jersey – Regular Fit – (click here to view)
- Nike Game Jersey – Relaxed Fit – (click here to view)
- NFL Pro Line Jersey – Loosest Fit – (click here to view)
Not only do the 5 NFL jersey types not fit the same, they also have different details. Some are stitched, some are not. Only one type is an authentic jersey.
Quickly, here’s what you need to know about each jersey type:
- Nike Legend – The Nike Legend is unique compared to other NFL jerseys. It fits almost like a standard t-shirt, and is more affordable than other jerseys. I was a bit shocked how much I liked the fit. True to size. Lightweight, and easy to wear. Click here to view the Nike Legend jerseys at NFLShop.com. NFLShop.com is the official online shop of the NFL.
- Nike Game – The Nike Game jerseys are popular fan jerseys due to price point. They have the true look of a jersey, but are replicas, which means they are a bit more affordable than premium jerseys. Relaxed fit, but true to size. These jerseys are a good option if you are looking for a Nike jersey on a tight budget. Click here to view the Nike Game jerseys at NFLShop.com.
- Nike Limited – The Nike Limited Vapor jerseys are my favorite jersey. Vapor style has clean front with seams converging in back. Sits flat against body. This jersey has stitched numbers and graphics. Awesome jersey, with a great fit and some premium finishes. More affordable than the Elite authentic jerseys. True to size. Click here to view the Nike Limited jerseys at NFLShop.com
- Nike Elite – These are the authentic NFL jerseys, and the closest you can get as a fan to wearing what the players wear on the field. The fit will be slimmer than other jerseys, mimicking the athletic fit of the players’ jerseys. The Elite jerseys have all the premium finishes, including stitched graphics and authentic paneling. Click here to view the Nike Elite jerseys at NFLShop.com.
- NFL Pro Line Jersey – The NFL Pro Line Jersey is not made by Nike. It is a more affordable replica jersey, which might be a nice option if you are on a tight budget. This jersey has a baggy, loose fit, and you may need to size it down. Click here to view Pro Line jerseys at NFLShop.com.
As I said earlier, this is the jersey from NFLShop.com that I recommend as best fan jersey (Nike Limited Vapor) – in my opinion it has the best combination of fit, comfort, style and price (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com). I hate to make it sound simple, but those Nike Limited Vapor jerseys were the easy choice for me for best fan jersey for 3 reasons:
- It’s the best looking NFL jersey (in my opinion)
- Its sizing was perfect for me (not too loose or too tight)
- It has premium finishes but is more affordable than the Nike Elite authentic jerseys
They have that perfect fit that isn’t too tight or too loose. It’s not super baggy and almost has a tailored feel to it compared to the other jerseys I own, but it is still comfortable enough that I can layer a hoodie under it for cold-weather games. Here is mine layered:
The Nike Limited Vapors also have the clean Vapor cut, which means all the seams converge in the back of the jersey so that the jersey lays flat against your body. If I had to buy only one NFL jersey, it would be the Nike Limited Vapor jersey for sure.
This is where you can shop for the Nike Limited Vapor jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com which is the official online shop of the NFL).
If you are looking to buy an NFL jersey, you have several decisions to make based on size and what quality of jersey you want to buy. Nike is the official provider of NFL jerseys and they offer several types of jerseys for fans to choose from:
- Legend
- Game
- Limited
- Limited Vapor
- Elite
- Elite Vapor
But perhaps the most important thing at first is how can you expect these jerseys to fit. Do NFL Nike football jerseys run big or small or do they run true to size?
The size and fit of Nike NFL football jerseys will differ depending on what type of jersey you buy – some fit loose and some fit snug. In this article we will discuss how each type of jersey fits.
Take a look at the picture below. This is proof of just how much difference in size and cut two different Nike fan jerseys can have. This is my medium Nike Legend jersey sitting on top of my medium Nike Game jersey (yes, both mediums):
As you can see there is a significant difference in how those two jerseys are sized, even though both are “mediums”.
In this article I will give you the fit description of each individual jersey type based on my own personal experiences, and whether or not I would recommend sizing up or down. I will also provide size guides for the 3 most popular types of Nike fan jerseys: Game, Limited, and Elite.
We also have a buyer’s guide that will help you determine which jersey is right for you. Visit our article: Best NFL Jersey to Buy. We also have a size guide for NBA jerseys: How Do NBA Jerseys Fit? – and a size guide for NHL jerseys: How Do NHL Jerseys Fit?
How Do Nike NFL Jerseys Fit?
Again, as mentioned above, there is no blanket way to describe the fit of all fan jerseys because they differ significantly depending on jersey type.
In this section I will cover the main types of Nike NFL jerseys, give you a brief description of what to expect as far as fit, and then link you to other resources (like my jersey review for each type of jersey).
In the sections below I include photos of the NFL jerseys that I own. For comparison, here I am wearing a medium t-shirt:
(6’3″ 200 pounds)
Nike Legend
How Do Nike Legend Jerseys Fit?
The Nike Legend fits true to size and will fit almost exactly how a regular t-shirt fits you. There is no need, in my opinion, to size up or down.
The Nike Legend is one of the most affordable fan jerseys on the market, and it is also one of the most unique. This is the current price of the Nike Legend jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com)
I was actually shocked at how much I liked the Nike Legend because I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was actually one of my favorite fits of all the fan jerseys. It laid clean and smooth against my body and was comfortable (made with Nike Dri-Fit technology).
Here is what you need to know: the Nike Legend is more of a jersey/shirt hybrid, sorta like a shirsey. I hesitate to call it a shirsey because it is made with polyester and most shirseys are made of cotton.
If you are just looking for a simple way to rep a player and team, I would recommend giving the Nike Legend a serious look. It is affordable, comfortable, and has a unique design compared to typical fan jerseys.
Here is a look at my medium Nike Legend jersey (I am 6’3″ 200 pounds):

Nike Game
How Does the Nike Game jersey fit?
The Nike Game jerseys are a looser, more relaxed fit. I like to describe the Nike Game sizing as a relaxed fit that runs true-to-size. Yes, that’s another way of saying it runs slightly loose, but I didn’t size down.
But going from the Nike Legend above to the Nike Game is a perfect example of just how much difference there can be in fan jerseys.
I know I already posted the picture earlier in the article, but I will post it again here so that you can see the significant difference. This is my medium Nike Legend jersey sitting on top of my medium Nike Game jersey:
That is quite a bit of difference and might drastically affect your buying experience if you are expecting a certain type of fit and get an end result that is much different.
Here’s what I would say regarding the Nike Game jersey fit: expect it to fit looser and more relaxed that a regular t-shirt. As you can see in the picture above, the Nike Game jersey is wider, longer, and has baggier sleeves than the Nike Legend jersey.
Now, again, I did not size down. Just don’t expect this jersey to fit snug or slim. It will be baggier than a t-shirt.
If you are wanting a slim fit you will either need to size down or pick a different jersey type. But many people like a relaxed jersey fit, and in some instances, the extra space allows for more room to layer for cold-weather games.
Many people like the Nike Game jersey due to its affordable price point. This is the current price of the Nike Game jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com).
Here is a look at my medium Nike Game jersey (6’3″ 200 pounds):
Click here to view the Nike Game jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com). Again, expect a relaxed fit. If you want to read more, visit our article about Nike Game Jersey Sizing, or visit our Nike Game Jersey Review.
Nike Limited
How Does the Nike Limited Jersey fit?
When you transition from the Nike Game to the Nike Limited (and beyond), you begin to transition into more premium fan jerseys that have more detailed finishes like sewn on numbers, letters etc.
I prefer the Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable jerseys. The Vapor Untouchable version was designed, in part, to reduce the amount of panels on a jersey to limit the amount of grab points for football players.
From a fan’s perspective, this allows the jersey to also lay flatter against our bodies because the paneling on the Vapor versions is designed in a way that allows the paneling to converge in the middle of the back (more on Vapor Untouchable in the next section).
For full disclosure, I currently do not own a regular Nike Limited jersey because I like the Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable jersey much better (see in the next section). But I have tried on a Nike Limited jersey in the past, so let me say this: expect it to fit true to size.
The regular Nike Limited is going to run bigger that a standard t-shirt, but not so much so that it will require you to size down. Expect the Nike Limited to run a bit slimmer than the Nike Game pictured in the section above.
Limited Vapor
How Does the Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable Jersey fit?
The Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable is my pick for best fan jersey on the market today. Expect the Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable jersey to fit true to size.
It has a regular fit that runs true to size. It is a fit that works for most everyone because it isn’t too slim or too baggy.
To me it is the best combination of fit, comfort, quality, and price point. It gives you the feel of a premium jersey with the sewn on numbers and letters and patches, but it allows you to save a little money instead of spending up for a Nike Elite jersey.
This is the current price of the Nike Limited Vapor jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com). The Limited Vapor Untouchable is made with Nike Dri-Fit technology and fits in a way that it is not too loose but also not too tight. It has my full recommendation.
To read more, visit my Nike Limited Vapor review. I think only the Nike Legend (pictured above in article) would I say possibly has a better overall fit than the Limited Vapor (it’s close).
Both the Nike Legend and Nike Limited Vapor are great-fitting fan jerseys, but the Limited Vapor is my top choice for best fan jersey (over the Nike Legend) because the Legend is more of a shirsey and the Limited Vapor is a true fan jersey. Here is a look at my medium Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable jersey (I am 6’3″ 200 pounds):
Click here to view the Nike Limited Vapor jerseys available at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com). Again, this is my favorite type of fan jersey. True to size fit.
Nike Elite
How Does the Nike Elite Jersey fit?
Now we are reaching what is considered to be true authentic fan jerseys. The Nike Elite jersey (regular and vapor) are considered on-field replicas – Nike Elite jerseys are designed with the exact specifications of the jerseys the players wear on the field. In short, this means premium finishes and premium details.
But as far as fit, this also means a more athletic, snug fit (especially in the Vapor version). On the product page at NFLShop.com, you will notice that it describes the fit in this way: “Men’s Nike Elite Jerseys have an athletic cut that fits snug in the chest and shoulders.”
This is where owning the jersey helps, because I would actually disagree with this description a little bit.
To me, the Nike Elite jersey does have an athletic fit due to the stretch fabric used to mimic the real jerseys of the players, and it does fit tight around the waist. But, in my experience, it actually can be a little loose through the chest due to the paneling.
I say all of that to say this: in my opinion the Nike Elite jersey runs true to size. Expect a snug fit near the waist line, and a relatively standard fit through the shoulders. The chest panel can push out and cause a bit of extra space in the chest area.
The Nike Elite is one of the more expensive jerseys on the market since it is a true replica. This is the current price of the Nike Elite jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com).
It is great addition to a fan collection due to its authentic finishes. The Nike Elite jersey is for serious fans who are looking to add a premium piece of fan apparel to his or her collection.
To read more, visit my Nike Elite Jersey review. To read more about fit, visit our Nike Elite Jersey Sizing Guide. Here is a look at my regular Nike Elite jersey (I am 6’3″ 200 pounds).
Elite Vapor
How Does the Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable Jersey fit?
Just like the Nike Limited jerseys we discussed earlier in the article, the Nike Elite also has a Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable version. I am a fan of Vapor Untouchable, so whenever you have a choice, I personally would recommend choosing Vapor over regular (for both the Nike Elite and Nike Limited).
We discussed it earlier in the article, but again, one main difference in the Vapor version is the design of the jersey reduces the amount of paneling so that the jersey lays flat against your chest and shoulders. This is a good thing.
Now in regards specifically to the Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable – it has an athletic, slim fit. The Elite vapor has the slimmest fit of all fan jerseys.
It is also made with a stretch blend of material, so although it fits snug, it doesn’t restrict you like a straight jacket because the material can stretch. In my opinion, it runs true to size, but just expect an athletic, slim cut.
Also of note, the sleeves on the Nike Elite are fitted and have an elastic cuff to mimic those worn by the players. Make sure this is something you are comfortable with.
The Elite Vapor uses numerical sizing. Here is a look at my size 40, which is comparable to a medium (6’3″ 200 pounds):
Click here to view the Elite Vapor jerseys at NFLShop. com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com). Again, expect a slim fit. To read more about the Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable jerseys, you can view my Elite Vapor review.
Nike NFL Jersey Types and Comparison
As we’ve discussed above, the three main types of Nike NFL jerseys are:
- Game (Least Expensive)
- Limited
- Elite (Most Expensive)
There is of course also the Nike Legend (which is more of a jersey/shirt hybrid) and there are also Vapor versions of both the Limited and the Elite. If you want in depth reviews and comparison articles of all these jerseys, you can visit our football jersey resource page.
These three main jersey types (Game, Limited, Elite) are structured at three different price points so that fans have an option to match with their budget. Of course, the quality of the jersey increases with the price. The Nike Elite jerseys are the closest to what they players wear on the field and are based off the NFL Elite 51 jerseys, which is the uniform style that most teams use.
Nike ‘Game’ Jersey Size Guide
If you are looking for a jersey but don’t want to break the bank, the Nike ‘Game’ jersey is your best option. Yes, it has less premium finishes than the Limited or Elite jerseys, but it still offers you the opportunity to rock the jersey of your favorite player, while also saving a few bucks.
Features
Okay, here are the main features and differences that the Nike Game jersey has in comparison to the more expensive jerseys:
- Screen-printed name, numbers, and logos instead of stitched graphics.
- NFL logo stitched to front collar.
- No flywire to strengthen collar to prevent stretching (but collar is well made anyway in my opinion).
- Longer, loose sleeves, that will hit near your elbow.
- Fabric that lacks the stretch material blend or Dri-Fit technology of the more expensive jerseys.
- Standard sizing (small, medium, large etc) instead of number-based sizing used in Elite jerseys
Nike NFL Game Jersey Size Chart
Nike ‘Limited’ Jersey Size Guide
As I’ve discussed, the Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable version is my personal favorite fan jersey. It is a better quality jersey than the Nike ‘Game’ jersey and has a lower price point than the Elite jerseys. To me it is the perfect combination of fit, comfort, quality, and price.
Remember, there is a regular Nike Limited jersey and a Nike Limited Vapor Untouchable jersey.
Features of Nike ‘Limited’ Jersey
- Stitched-on names and numbers (‘Game’ has screen-printed names and numbers)
- Mesh Grill panel at the front neck line (to mimic real on-field jerseys) with NFL shield metallic logo in Vapor version.
- Nike Dri-Fit Technology (Vapor versions)
- Stretch-resistant, tagless collars
- Longer, loose sleeves, that will hit near your elbow (the Limited Vapor has semi-fitted sleeves that in my opinion are the perfect length for sleeves.)
- Medium-fit (not extremely loose, but not as fitted as the Nike ‘Elite’ on-field jerseys)
Nike NFL Limited Jersey Size Chart
Nike Elite Jersey Size Guide
The Nike Elite jersey is the premium fan jersey. It is made with the exact specification of what the players wear on the field.
Again, there is a regular Nike Elite jersey and a Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable jersey. The Nike Elite jerseys have a more athletic fit than other types of jerseys due to their authentic construction.
The Nike Elite Vapor is the slimmest fitting fan jersey. It’s not so slim that I recommend sizing up, but if you are in between sizes and don’t like slim cuts, sizing up may be needed.
The Elite jerseys also run a little bit longer in length than the other types of fan jerseys. The sizing on the Elite jerseys will be a number-based sizing system instead of a general small, medium, large etc. sizing structure.
Tip: If you are looking for a jersey that has tighter sleeves, the Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable jersey is the only NFL fan jersey that has an elastic cuffed sleeve. The baggy, long sleeves is often one issue that fans complain about regarding jerseys. If you cannot stand baggy sleeves, you should at least consider the Elite Vapor Untouchable jersey.
One issue that I have with the regular Elite jersey is the mesh paneling (that mimics the on-field jersey that the players wear) can cause the jersey not to lay as flat against the chest as the Vapor Untouchable version.
Features of Nike ‘Elite’ Jersey
- On-field premium fan jersey
- Stitched on names, numbers, and logos
- Stretch fabric for increased mobility
- Tighter fit than other fan jerseys
- Fitted sleeves in Vapor Untouchable version
- Machine washable
- Metallic-effect NFL shield at collar
- Mesh paneling at the front neck line to mimic player jerseys

Nike Elite vs Limited vs Game Jerseys
So, which jersey is right for you? This answer will be a combination of price, fit, and personal preferences. Here are a list of a few things to consider when making your decision:
- Fit – Remember, the Nike Elite Vapor Untouchable will be the most fitted jersey of all the fan jerseys. If you prefer a slimmer fit, you may need to spend the extra money. Remember, the Elite Vapor Untouchable also has fitted sleeves. Nike Game is the loosest of all Nike jerseys.
- Price – If you are on a strict budget, the Nike Game or Nike Legend will be your best options. Although they don’t have the premium finishes of the Nike Elite, these two jerseys are still is a nice way to represent your favorite player and team.
- Length – If you are looking for a longer jersey, the Nike Elite jersey has the longest fit of all the fan jerseys. In general, the Nike jerseys run about an inch or two longer than standard T Shirts (with the exception of the Nike Legend which fits much like a t-shirt).
- Finishes – The Elite jersey will have the most premium finishes, including stitched on graphics, stretch fabric for easy mobility, and other finishes that mimic the on-field jerseys that the players wear.
Related Questions
Do NFL Jerseys Run Big or Small?
Again, this is a difficult question to answer because each type fits differently. Expect the Nike Game to fit loose, the Nike Elite Vapor to fit slim, and every other type to generally run true to size.
Do NFL Jerseys Ever Go On Sale?
Yes, there will be times throughout the year that the NFL shop offers unique discounts and offers. This may not apply to all types of jerseys. If you read our article here we cover some of the ways you can save money on jerseys.
You also might regularly check the clearance section at NFLShop.com, which you can view by clicking on this link (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com). Perhaps a jersey you are interested in is on clearance and it doesn’t hurt to check.
Can Football Jerseys Go In The Dryer?
Obviously, check the tag on your jersey, but as a general rule, you should never machine dry your jerseys on high heat. If you are going to machine-dry, make sure you use a low heat setting. Hang-drying your premium jerseys may be the best bet. Some of the Nike jerseys do recommend a line-dry.
Where Should You Buy NFL Jerseys?
Because there are potentially fake jerseys on the re-sale market, I always recommend people to buy from a reputable source like NFLShop.com (which is the official online shop of the NFL). This is where you can shop for jerseys at NFLShop.com (affiliate link takes you to NFLShop.com).
You can also shop at locat retail stores, although not all types of NFL jerseys are offered in local retail stores, so your selection may be limited. NFL pro shops located inside of stadiums will also have a wide selection of jerseys.
What Size NBA Jersey to Buy (Guides and Size Chart)
If you are a big NBA fan, there’s nothing like supporting your team or favorite player by wearing their NBA Jersey. NBA jerseys are fun to wear and they look great too.
It’s easy to find jerseys online both new and used, however, NBA jerseys are not usually cheap, especially popular ones. If you are going to pay top dollar for a Steph Curry or Kawhi Leonard jersey, you want to make sure it fits properly.
So, before you make that investment in an NBA jersey, it is probably a good idea to ask yourself, what size NBA jersey should I buy?
My Personal Experience
I love NBA jerseys and have owned quite a few over the years. There’s something about the look and feel of the material, the team logo and player’s name on your back, that makes you feel special. I instantly feel like a true fan when I put it on because I know that I will get comments from friends, family and even strangers in public.
I currently have an old Indiana Pacers Reggie Miller jersey and when I wear it in Denver, I usually get comments like, “Hey, the Pacers, are you from Indiana?” or “Reggie Miller? He was a great shooter!”.
When I wear it to a Denver Nuggets game, I often negative comments. It forces you to build a greater sense of pride for supporting your team and it can often be a great conversation starter.
The important thing is to make sure that when you buy your jersey, you get one that fits the way you like it. I have experienced the unfortunate experience of purchasing a jersey that did not fit the way I wanted and I ended up not wearing it.
So, let’s take a look at some tips on how you can figure out what size NBA jersey to buy.
How Do you Like to Wear Your Jersey?
The first thing you will need to figure out is, how, and why, you like to wear your jerseys? You could be playing basketball in your jersey or maybe you are wearing it casually, either to a game or in public.
This will determine whether your jersey should have a tight or loose fit. It is also important to remember that some jersey styles are longer than others, so if you are not tucking the jersey in, it may hang fairly low.
You should also think about what you might wear under the jersey. You may wear a t-shirt under it or possibly a hoodie in which case you may need an extra room and go for a larger size. If you are wearing it to play in a game you might not wear anything under it and you may want it tight fit so that you can maneuver and shoot better.

Find your Size
If you know how you like to wear your jersey, the next step is to figure out what size will fit you the way that you want. If you don’t have a jersey to compare sizes, you can always go to a store and try some on. You don’t necessarily have to purchase the jersey there, but you can at least see how they fit. Just remember the brand, the style, and the size and then you can order that same type online.
Different brands and styles within the same brand are sized differently and will not always fit the same.
Another option is to take your measurements and adjust your jersey size from there. You can measure your chest using a soft measuring tape like one tailor uses.
Take the measuring tape and wrap it all the way around your chest, just under your armpits. See the photo below for an example.

If you are worried about the length you can also measure from the top of your shoulder, down to your waist area to give you an idea of where the typical jerseys will lay on your waist or leg area. Once you have the measurements you can look at a measurement chart.
Remember, if you want a tight fit, then go with the size jersey that is closest to your measurements. If you want your jersey to be baggy, then go to the next size up. Let’s take a look at some of the measurements for some of the typical jersey brands and styles that are currently on the market.

Vintage Jerseys
If you are like me and you like vintage jerseys, it can sometimes be hard to know how they will be sized. If you’re buying them from a seller on the internet, you can always ask them to take measurements of the jersey and send them to you. If you find a vintage jersey in a second hand or collector’s store, it is always best to try it on before you purchase it.
