Tiger Woods’ Potential Role in the 2022 Presidents Cup
Despite his recent car accident and ongoing recovery, Tiger Woods remains a significant figure in the golf world. Davis Love III, the U.S. team captain for the 2022 Presidents Cup, has extended an open invitation to Woods to participate in whatever capacity he chooses.

Virginia Presidents Cup Spring 2022: Application Process and Key Dates
For teams interested in participating in the Virginia Presidents Cup Spring 2022 competition, several important dates and details have been announced:
- Application window: February 10, 2022 to March 17, 2022
- Entry fee: $450.00
- Roster freeze date: March 30, 2022
Why is the roster freeze date significant? The March 30, 2022 roster freeze is a new policy implemented to streamline the competition and align with National Presidents Cup rules. This single freeze date applies to all teams, regardless of when their first game is played, reducing confusion and ensuring fairness across the competition.
Eligibility Requirements for the Virginia Presidents Cup
Understanding the eligibility criteria is crucial for teams considering participation in the Virginia Presidents Cup. The competition aims to provide a challenging environment for competitive youth soccer teams while maintaining a level playing field.
What are the main eligibility rules for the Virginia Presidents Cup?
- Teams must be members of VYSA (Virginia Youth Soccer Association)

- Age group eligibility is determined by the oldest player on the roster

Transfer Player Limit and Competition Restrictions
To maintain competitive balance and prevent the formation of “super teams,” the Virginia Presidents Cup imposes limits on transferred players and restricts teams from participating in multiple cup competitions.
Why are there limits on transferred players and multiple cup entries?
- Ensures team continuity and cohesion
- Prevents excessive recruitment of players solely for the competition
- Maintains the integrity of individual league competitions
- Allows more teams the opportunity to participate in cup events
Rules and Policies Governing the Presidents Cup
Participants in the Virginia Presidents Cup are expected to familiarize themselves with the official rules and policies governing the competition. These guidelines ensure fair play, consistent application of rules, and a positive experience for all involved.
Where can teams find the official rules for the Virginia Presidents Cup?
- Virginia Presidents Cup Policies document
- National Presidents Cup Series Policies
- Both available on the VYSA website
It is the responsibility of each team to review and understand these rules before applying for the competition. Familiarity with the regulations helps prevent misunderstandings and ensures smooth operation of the tournament.
Communication Channels for Presidents Cup Participants
Effective communication is essential for the successful operation of the Virginia Presidents Cup. Organizers have established specific channels to keep teams informed about schedules, results, and any potential changes.
How will teams receive updates during the Presidents Cup competition?
- Primary contact and email address required from each team

Importance of Providing Accurate Contact Information
The success of the Presidents Cup communication system relies heavily on teams providing accurate and up-to-date contact information. This allows organizers to quickly disseminate important details and ensures that no team misses crucial updates.
Why is accurate contact information so vital for Presidents Cup participants?
- Enables rapid communication of schedule changes
- Ensures teams receive timely updates on field locations
- Allows for efficient distribution of results and standings
- Facilitates quick resolution of any issues or questions that arise
By maintaining open lines of communication, the Virginia Presidents Cup can operate smoothly and provide an enjoyable experience for all teams involved. Regular updates and easy access to information contribute to a well-organized and successful tournament.
The Significance of the Presidents Cup in Youth Soccer
The Presidents Cup holds a special place in the landscape of youth soccer competitions. It offers a unique opportunity for competitive teams to test their skills against quality opposition while still maintaining a balance that allows for broader participation.
What makes the Presidents Cup an important event in youth soccer?
- Provides a high-level competitive environment
- Offers a pathway for teams not eligible for the top-tier National Championship Series
- Promotes player development through challenging matches
- Fosters a sense of pride and achievement for participating clubs
The Presidents Cup serves as a bridge between regular league play and the most elite levels of youth soccer competition. It challenges teams to elevate their performance while still remaining accessible to a wide range of clubs and players.
Player Development Benefits
Participation in the Presidents Cup can significantly contribute to the development of young soccer players. The tournament format and level of competition provide valuable experiences that can help players grow both on and off the field.
How does the Presidents Cup contribute to player development?
- Exposes players to diverse playing styles and tactics

- Promotes teamwork and collective problem-solving
- Provides a platform for players to showcase their skills to college scouts
By participating in the Presidents Cup, young players gain experiences that can shape their soccer careers and personal growth. The challenges faced during the competition help forge stronger, more adaptable athletes who are better prepared for future success in soccer and beyond.
Preparing for Success in the Presidents Cup
Teams aiming to excel in the Virginia Presidents Cup should approach the competition with careful preparation and strategic planning. Success in this tournament requires more than just on-field talent; it demands thorough organization and a comprehensive approach to team development.
What steps can teams take to prepare effectively for the Presidents Cup?
- Review and understand all eligibility requirements and rules
- Develop a training plan that peaks for the tournament dates
- Analyze potential opponents and adapt tactics accordingly
- Ensure all administrative requirements are met well in advance
- Foster team cohesion through team-building activities
Proper preparation can make the difference between an early exit and a deep run in the Presidents Cup. Coaches and team managers should work together to create a comprehensive plan that addresses both the physical and mental aspects of tournament play.
Balancing Regular Season and Cup Competitions
One challenge teams face when participating in the Presidents Cup is balancing their commitments to regular league play with the demands of the cup competition. Successful teams find ways to manage both aspects of their season effectively.
How can teams balance league play with Presidents Cup preparation?
- Prioritize key matches and adjust lineup rotations
- Incorporate tournament-style play into regular training sessions
- Use league matches to experiment with tactics for cup play
- Manage player workload to prevent burnout and injuries
By thoughtfully approaching the dual demands of league and cup play, teams can maintain their competitive edge in both arenas. This balanced approach not only prepares the team for success in the Presidents Cup but also contributes to overall player development and team growth throughout the season.
Davis Love said Tiger Woods can pick his role in 2022
Tiger Woods has been laying low since he was involved in a serious car crash in Southern California in February.
Though a return to the PGA Tour — or simply the golf world in general — still sounds like it is a long ways off, Woods has an open invitation to help with the U.S. Presidents Cup team next year.
U.S. team captain Davis Love III said Tuesday at the RSM Classic that he hopes Woods will at least serve as an assistant on the 2022 team.
Whatever Woods wants to do, Love said, he can do it — even if that means he’s out of a job.
“It would have been a great captaincy for Tiger to continue on,” Love said, via ESPN. “At the time we were discussing it [before his crash], he said, ‘No, I’m playing really good. I’m gonna make the team, and I enjoyed Australia being playing captain, but I want to be a player on the team.’
“So his role is whatever his role wants to be. If Tiger calls me up and says, ‘Hey, you’re kicked out, I’m taking over’ — that’s Tiger’s role. If he wants to be an assistant, you know … I would hope that he comes back and starts playing and can make that a goal, to be on the team.”
‘I know he’ll be a big part of it’
The Presidents Cup will be held at Quail Hollow in 2022, after it was delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Woods served as a playing captain on the 2019 team that beat the international team in Australia.
Woods, however, has not competed since the 2020 Masters last November and has been recovering from the horrific car crash for the past nine or so months — something he said was “more painful than anything I have ever experienced.” He was spotted at a junior golf event last month with his son, and had a sleeve on his leg.
Though Woods’ future in golf is still murky, he did help push the U.S. team to a Ryder Cup win over the Europeans in September from afar.
“It took us a while to get him to the point where he would engage,” Love said, via ESPN. “Obviously he had a rough start to the year, but once we got him in the loop, he was a big help and a lot of fun for the Ryder Cup and for the team. Obviously the guys were going to see him down there in South Florida all summer.
“He can do whatever, and I know he’ll be a big part of it.”

***NEW*** Beginning this year the roster freeze date for Spring Presidents Cup teams will be March 30, 2022. This is a change from the previous years when the freeze date was prior to the first game played. This means that no matter when your first game is played all rosters for Presidents Cup this Spring are frozen on March 30, 2022. As the competition has grown and changed, moving to a single freeze date is less confusing and more in line with the National President Cup Rules. All players who are eligible for the competition in the Presidents Cup must have been rostered to US Youth Soccer and your club by March 30, 2022. At the 48-hour freeze deadline, those players who are on the frozen roster are the only players eligible to compete in the Virginia portion of the Presidents Cup.
A team may have no more than five transferred players on its Presidents Cup roster. A team may compete in only one Presidents Cup competition during a seasonal year.
ELIGIBILITY
Any team of a member of VYSA and participating in a recognized league and properly registered (having an official VYSA Presidents Cup roster and US Youth Soccer player passes), is eligible to enter any one age group corresponding to the age of the oldest player on its roster. Teams who play in the most competitive divisions of, EDP conference, National League are not eligible for Presidents Cup. Please check with the Cup Director if you are unsure of this eligibility.

2022 Presidents Cup: Davis Love III will serve as U.S. team captain at Quail Hollow
Getty Images
When the United States team tees it up at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, it will be led by a familiar face. Davis Love III will again captain the U.S. squad as it goes for its ninth consecutive Presidents Cup win in September next year.
Love III has previously served as the captain for two Ryder Cup teams (2012 and 2016). Though he has never been the U. S. captain for the Presidents Cup, he has been a vice captain three different times (2013, 2015 and 2017 — all wins for the U.S. side). He’s also been a vice captain for three Ryder Cup teams, including this year at Whistling Straits where Steve Stricker will be the captain.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be named captain of the U.S. Team for the 2022 Presidents Cup,” Love III said in a statement. “My history with this event dating back to 1994 conjures up indelible memories of competition, camaraderie and sportsmanship, and I’m thrilled to be leading the top American players into Quail Hollow Club next September. The U.S. team has been guided by some of the game’s all-time greats since 1994, and I will do my best to carry on that legacy as we look to retain the cup.”
Love III follows in Tiger Woods’ footsteps as Woods — serving as a playing captain — led the 2019 Presidents Cup team to a 16-14 win over Ernie Els and the International team at Royal Melbourne in Australia.
This time around, Love III will go up against Trevor Immelman, who will be captain of the International team for the first time in his career. His job is a tough one as the International team has not won the Presidents Cup since 1998 and has never won on U.S. soil.
If there is a criticism to be had, it’s that the Presidents Cup is a great (and somewhat safe) place to test out new captains for U.S. teams to see how they would fare at future Ryder Cups. Love III is not expected to captain any other Ryder Cups in the future, so it seems somebody like Phil Mickelson — who will almost certainly be a future Ryder Cup captain — would benefit from some reps with the earpiece in.
Regardless, the U.S. will again be heavily favored to win at Quail Hollow. Though if those 2019 matches are any indication, the International team is closing the gap between itself and the Americans with studs like Sungjae Im, Cam Smith and Joaquin Niemann.
The 2022 Presidents Cup will be played from Sept. 22-25.

Presidents Cup, in conjunction with Ryder Cup, to move to 2022
Announced in a joint press release today from the PGA TOUR, Ryder Cup Europe and the PGA of America, the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup have been postponed one year later than originally scheduled.
The Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club has moved from the fall of 2021 to September 19-25, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Sport is the ultimate unifier, and while these two biennial events are fiercely contested, they also give fans from both sides and from around the world the opportunity to unite and celebrate the greatest game on the planet,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan in the press release. “With the uncertainty of the current climate, we fully support the Ryder Cup’s decision to delay a year in order to ensure fans could be a part of the incredible atmosphere in Wisconsin, and the delay of next year’s Presidents Cup was the right decision in order to allow for that option. ”

“The Presidents Cup, like all businesses and sports around the globe, has clearly been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Postponing for a year to create space for other elements of golf’s global calendar is the right thing to do and will allow us additional runway as we plan and execute what will be the biggest and most successful Presidents Cup to date. ”
Presidents Cup Executive Director Adam Sperling
About the Presidents Cup
This team match-play competition featuring 24 of the world’s top golfers – 12 from the United States and 12 from around the world, excluding Europe – is held every two years, and since 1996 has alternated between venues in the United States and around the world. In December 2019, the U.S. Team retained the Cup from the Internationals in comeback fashion at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia on the famed Melbourne Sandbelt.
The Presidents Cup is a unique golf event in that there is no purse or prize money. Players are not paid for their participation; instead, each player, captain, and captain’s assistant allocates an equal portion of the funds generated to charities of his choice.

Nov 16 (Reuters) – Davis Love III, who has succeeded Tiger Woods as captain of the U.S. team for the 2022 Presidents Cup in North Carolina, said on Tuesday his predecessor can have any role on the squad he wants but hopes to see him return from injury and make it as a player.
Woods, who has not competed since he suffered serious leg injuries in a February car crash, won all three of his matches at the 2019 Presidents Cup in Melbourne where he served as a playing captain for the victorious U.S. team.
Love, speaking to reporters at Sea Island Resort where he is host of this week’s RSM Classic, said he had conversations about the Presidents Cup captain’s role with Woods before the former world number one’s car accident.

“It would have been a great captaincy for Tiger to continue on,” Love told reporters at Sea Island Resort.
“At the time we were discussing it, he said, ‘No, I’m playing really good, I’m gonna make the team, and I enjoyed Australia being playing captain, but I want to be a player on the team’.
“So his role is whatever his role wants to be. If Tiger calls me up and says, ‘Hey, you’re kicked out, I’m taking over’, that’s Tiger’s role. If he wants to be an assistant, you know.”
Love, a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour, said it would be great to see Woods regain his form in time for the Presidents Cup but knows he can offer support in other ways having done so in an unofficial advisory role at the last Ryder Cup.
“I would hope that he comes back and starts playing and can make that a goal, to be on the team,” said Love. “He was a big part of our Ryder Cup. It took us a while to get him to the point where he would engage.
“Obviously he had a rough start to the year, but once we got him in the loop, he was a big help and a lot of fun for the Ryder Cup and for the team.”

Russian tennis players won the team Davis Cup.
News. Channel One
A historic event for Russian tennis – our team won the Davis Cup for the first time in 15 years. The final of the prestigious tournament was held in Madrid. The athletes were congratulated by Vladimir Putin. In his congratulatory telegram, the President noted: our tennis players showed exceptional skill, character, team cohesion, played excellently in all matches. And this despite the fact that because of the sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency, ours performed without a national flag and anthem. But this did not prevent the triumph.
At the Madrid Arena court, everyone was on the edge of their nerves. In the final games of the Davis Cup final, our tennis players are against the Croats. Andrei Rublev wins the first set against Borne Goyo – 6: 4. But in the second, with each serve, it causes a steep emotional swing among the spectators and the president of the Tennis Federation, the captain of the Russian team Shamil Tarpishchev. The second set Rublev literally gnaws at the opponent – 7: 6. After the match, he said – he analyzed his game, the opponent could not be underestimated.
“When you know that this player has been playing incredible tennis all week, beating those to whom I have lost, then in the end you feel doubly pressure,” Andrei Rublev said.
Daniil Medvedev, the second racket of the world, was next to enter the court. And if Rublev had a rival young Goyo – in the world ranking he is in the third hundred, then Medvedev has a well-known experienced cup player Marin Chilich. The first set is extremely tense – 7: 6 in favor of the Russian. And in the second, Cilic broke from the very beginning – 6: 2.The victory of our team, an explosion of emotions, a shower of champagne – Daniil Medvedev watered everyone around him.
“This is amazing. But I’m more happy for the team than for myself. We have an amazing team, an amazing atmosphere. I’m happy to be a part of this and bring the glasses we need. It was not easy to come here at the end of the season. But these were some of the best weeks of my career, ”admitted Daniil Medvedev.
The Davis Cup is an unusual tournament. Two years ago the formula of the draw was changed – now the match consists of two singles and a doubles. In the final between Russia and Croatia, it did not come to her – Rublev-Medvedev ensured the victory.
Already after, moving away from emotions, Shamil Tarpishchev said – such results in the history of Russian tennis, perhaps, have never happened before – they gathered the whole harvest of the most prestigious awards.
“Everything where we participated has been won: ATP tournament, Women’s Jean King Cup, Davis Cup, Olympic Games, Grand Slam. The heart sings. And with regards to the Davis Cup, it should be noted that we have an absolutely amazing team, ”said the President of the Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev.
As our tennis players admitted, from the point of view of their mood, they were very inspired by the victories of the Russian women’s team in the Billie Jean King Cup – this is an analogue of the Davis Cup. These tournaments are the largest international team competitions in men’s and women’s tennis. The Davis Cup, for example, has been held since 1900. Russia is taking home a silver salad bowl for the third time.

GUSEV: The fact is that I do not want to adjust the question to the answer, but before watching this match, I turned to the statistics of the Leningradets team and noted that Sergei Kiryakov (in general, a very promising coach) is doing very good spot replacements. And this is what decided the outcome of the match with “Kuban”.
S. DEMIDOV: In the same place, by the way, the goal was almost at the end of the game.
V.Gusev: Of course. But the fact is that Kiryakov was well aware that “Kuban” was a team with a better level, so he built the game from defense, without hesitation. And then, in the 84th minute, he releases an experienced thirty-two-year-old football player, striker Votinov, who, if he had played from the very beginning, might have gotten tired, but here he came out fresh and managed to get the job done. On the 84th he went out and on the 89th this giant, 190 centimeters, flew into the penalty area (he was taken out on the right flank) and elegantly threw the ball over the goalkeeper. You should have seen what was happening on the coaching bench of “Leningrader”, how important this victory is for them! We’re talking about the incentive, about the Cup – they were just jubilant, led by Kiryakov.
S. DEMIDOV: Viktor Mikhailovich, what do we even know about the Leningradets team? The team is super young, it is three years old now, as I understand it.
V. GUSEV: She is young, especially when compared with “Kuban”. “Kuban” was created in 1928, “Leningradets” – in 2018, which means that they have a difference of 90 years. But this is conditional, because if we talk about the new “Kuban”, then in its new form it also exists, by the way, since 2018. So peers played, let’s say. “Leningradets” plays at the Nova Arena stadium in St. Petersburg, but this match took place at the “Roshchino Arena”. The team is very interesting and a worthy coach. They won against “Kuban” and why not now try and win in the same place, in their field, against another team close to “Kuban”, “Krasnodar”? September 22 game, and what the hell is not kidding? “Leningradets” won in regulation time, that is, got three points. You know the formula for the cup: a victory on penalties is two points … Some cup principles have been preserved, although the group is not a knockout game. Therefore, what the hell is not kidding, there are three points, maybe they will go further.
S. DEMIDOV: The head coach of the Leningradets team, Sergei Kiryakov, told us about the last match and plans for the future.
S. KIRYAKOV: There was a definite plan for the game, and in principle, it worked quite well. Of course, the emphasis was more on defensive action. We perfectly understood that “Kuban” had two difficult matches before us, the players of “Kuban” were not in optimal condition, so we tried to use it. Well, in the end we caught the opponent on a counterattack. The guys now have to believe in themselves and understand that nothing is impossible. Everything is possible and we will seriously prepare for the “Krasnodar”.
S. DEMIDOV: Okay, we have dealt with “Leningrader”. But there was another sensation. The Chaika team from the village of Peschanokopskoye, already mentioned by us in the last issue, fought a decisive battle with one of the most popular teams in the country, the famous Moscow Torpedo. As a result, the victory turned out to be just, excuse me, for the “seagulls” – it would probably be more correct to call the players that way. What was that, Viktor Mikhailovich?
V. GUSEV: I would say that there was no such situation here, that the Chaika club defended all the way, and in the end scored a goal against the Moscow torpedo. No, there was a fairly equal game, there were moments for both of them. Probably, “Torpedo” should have paid attention to the previous results of “Chaika”, which, by the way, takes and wins from the club “Essentuki”.We do not know the strength of the Essentuki club, but if the Chaika wins 9: 1, then you need to pay attention to such performance. Played, played, in the 40th minute, “The Seagull” gives a corner and Alexei Gavrilovich, a defender, is tall, jumps out and just hits his head. They took 1: 0.
Stubborn struggle, to say that “Torpedo” underestimated that for “Torpedo” this match was not so important – but excuse me, there are 7 or 8 yellow cards. Fight, moments at one, then at the other gate. “Torpedo” is the leader of the FNL, after seven rounds one draw, not a single defeat, and now the loss to “The Seagull”. That is, everything was serious, and everyone really wanted to win, there were moments at those and at the other gates. And the goalkeepers, by the way, played well. So “The Seagull” is very worthy, we’ll see. Their next match is a derby, they play with their “Rostov” from the Premier League. And we know the difficult situation with “Rostov” now, Yuri Pavlovich Semin has just headed the team, so it seems to me that “The Seagull” even has some chances.
S. DEMIDOV: We talked about this with the head coach of the Chaika football club, Sergei Tashuev.
S. TASHUEV: I am satisfied with the team’s game. Possession of initiative, quality of dedication and martial arts. I am pleased that in the episodes that the guys demonstrated, they were absolutely not mistaken. I like the current squad more than the one that played in the FNL in the spring. There are a lot of interesting young people and experienced football players, such a symbiosis that is ready to play in the FNL today.
S. DEMIDOV: Friends, let me remind you that the program “Cup of Russia with Viktor Gusev” is published with the support of Gazprombank, the official bank of the Russian Football Union.Viktor Mikhailovich, there were no other sensations, if we assume the victory of the team from the lower division over the team from the division above as such. But “only old men go into battle”, forgive me – the well-known Vladikavkaz “Alania” won a victory over the representative of the lower division, “Legion Dynamo”, but the game for the charges of the head coach of “Alania” Spartak Gogniev was not easy. They were recouped, and they were recouped more than once.
V. GUSEV: Yes, there could have been a sensation here, if not for the crazy comeback of the Vladikavkaz people.First, it was a very interesting first half. You know, there is such a commentary template phrase: “The score is 0: 0, but nevertheless, the game is exciting.” So here it was exactly like that. They scored nothing in the first half, but a lot of chances, and it all started, five goals, already in the second half of the meeting. And in the last 10 minutes, we can probably say that the experience, the class, has an effect. We will have more examples when a team with a division above squeezes the opponent at the end, and here it also happened. First Bagaev, and then Khabalov scored the decisive goal when it was already the fifth minute of added time. And yet, through experience, they took this game. I said good words about Spartak Gogniev on our last air and, in my opinion, he confirms with every match that he is a very promising coach.
S. DEMIDOV: By the way, one more ex-representative of the Premier League had to recoup. “Alania”, as we know perfectly well, is not just an ex-representative of the Premier League, it is also the champion of Russia, no less. But in this case we are talking about “Orenburg”. In the end, the Orenburg people won, but the events were also not easy.
V. GUSEV: Yes, “Orenburg” is the third in the FNL, a very worthy club went to Stavropol as a rival, a very powerful team. Nevertheless, “Dynamo” (Stavropol) opened the scoring in the 24th minute. The residents of Orenburg managed to equalize and score before the end of the first half. The ball was decisive in the end, when Alexander Ektov from “Orenburg” scored such a goal in the 41st minute! Struck in the “nine” because of the penalty, just a colossal goal. And then Diallo, the Senegalese legionnaire of “Orenburg”, completed everything. It was already in the 78th minute. But in general, it is not easy, because when the score was 2: 1 in favor of “Orenburg”, the Stavropol “Dynamo” had a crossbar and other moments. That is, not that “Orenburg” turned the tide of the meeting and went to score, no. There, too, everything was very difficult.
S. DEMIDOV: From all that has been said, we can conclude that the teams from the higher divisions with the teams from the lower ones certainly do not find it easy. You and I will have to wait when, so to speak, larger musical instruments, teams from the Premier League, will come into play. We will definitely tell you about this.
V. Gusev: Sergei Demidov and Viktor Gusev were with you. We will talk a lot more about the Betcity Cup of Russia next time. See you, take care of yourself.
the system should work regardless of whether I am president or not – Newspaper Kommersant No. 212 (4997) from 09.11.2012
Bobsleigh and Skeleton
Yesterday in Lake Placid, the pre-Olympic international season opened the first stage of the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup.The President of the Russian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FBI), businessman GEORGY BEDZHAMOV, in an interview with Kommersant’s correspondent VALERIA MIRONOVA, spoke about the innovations of the off-season, in which the coaching staff of the national team changed and for the first time the selection rules were strictly observed. He also outlined the principles of manning crews for the main starts and said that the main team of Russia is provided with everything necessary for successful performances.
– During the two years of your presidency in the federation, you seem to have changed your image.Have become tougher. What is the reason for this?
– It would be strange if I actively began to intervene in the sports process outright. After all, he did not come to make a revolution, but to establish work by evolutionary methods. For the federation to become truly effective, and not the way I or someone else wants. In two years I have drawn conclusions, and now the work is proceeding normally. The main thing was to evaluate people not by words, but by deeds. We said goodbye to those who talk a lot but do little. So, the former head coach of bobsledders Oleg Sokolov and senior coach Semyon Makarov, senior coach of skeleton athletes Alexander Zaitsev were suspended.
– Yes, and some of the athletes who did not qualify for the national team may never get into it …
– Athletes are different. At the end of October in Sochi, at the Russian Cup, we adhered to the selection rules for the first time, and therefore only its prize-winners went to the starting stages of the World Cup in America, with the exception of the pilot Dmitry Abramovich, who had not yet received a visa, who were dispersing Pyotr Moiseev and Dmitry Stepushkin. I used to play football well. Maybe I should be assigned to some team? Let’s take those who are profitable to take, but then what is the point of selection? Our new coaches are not associated with the regions. At the very first training camp, Canadian Pierre Luders, who has been heading the combined Russian national bobsleigh and skeleton team since this season, said so bluntly: I’m not from Krasnoyarsk, not from Moscow, so there are no criteria for me other than qualifiers. I, he says, came to win. Yes, the medalist of two Olympiads, ex-world champion Alexei Voevoda and the medalist of the European Championship skeleton Sergei Chudinov, did not qualify. But the door to the team is not closed for them. It is open to everyone. They are talented athletes, they will work and, I hope, everything will be all right. But it is wrong to take someone into the main team for past merits. What, then, are the prospects for other guys, who performed better? They would have dropped their hands.
– When and where will the next qualifying stage take place?
– At the beginning of January in Paramonovo. Then the squad will be formed for the World Championship in St. Moritz. But rotation is the prerogative of the head coach. Everything will depend on fitness and results. However, in addition to physical fitness, there is also a psychological one. After all, bobsledders and skeletonists have been preparing for years to give their best within one and a half minutes. A true pro must be able to concentrate on any start. And the conversations, they say, you are good and unlucky, in favor of the poor.
– Is this a pebble in Alexey Voevoda’s garden? By the New Year, he promised to be in order and, if he keeps his word, are reconciliation and alliance possible, in your opinion, with Alexander Zubkov?
– The most powerful was the crew. We must remember the past and respect it.But one must live in the present and the future. Talented athletes are ambitious. However, Zubkov and Voevoda are, first of all, members of the national team defending the honor of the country. And if they are again worthy of each other, then, I hope, their reason and sense of duty will prevail, and emotions will recede into the background. There is nothing impossible in life.
– Pierre Lüders, who missed the chance to become an Olympic champion in his homeland, probably learned a lesson from his own experience?
– Pierre adheres to the principle: the best pilot should go with the best accelerator, not the one with whom he is comfortable.I am sure that the athletes also understand this. After all, smart ones learn not from their own, but from other people’s mistakes. And for the first time, we set our competitive priorities differently. In February, at the World Championships in Lake Placid, I saw a team tired from the cup stages. And the results were, as they say, obvious. The leaders of the leading national teams do not compete at all stages in a row, they go only for rating points, and the rest of the time, young people are recruited. So we made the European and World Championships a priority. This means that the leaders – the pilot Alexander Zubkov with his accelerators and the skeleton player Alexander Tretyakov – will also miss some cup stages. For example, January in Königssee. Better to spend a few extra days in St. Moritz on the track of the World Cup. It is natural there, and our experience on it is not very successful.
– Who was the first to pronounce the name of Pierre Luders as the future head coach of the Russian national team?
– Failure at the World Championships plunged the team into complete disarray, exacerbated by the inability of its previous leadership to create a healthy atmosphere in principle. I also do not relieve myself of responsibility. This could not go on further. Some people have completely forgotten that they are the Russian national team. Then I began to think about which of the authoritative people to invite to work, and Pierre Luders was recommended to me. After talking with him, I realized that he understands what he is doing. “I don’t need special conditions, I want to live here permanently and train,” he immediately said, and I liked it. The track in Sochi was not ready by October 1 due to the 25-degree heat. Luders handed out brooms to the guys, took the broom himself, and the work began to boil. At night, he poured the ice, and then he himself made the first descent of the season. In total, in October with Evgeny Pechenkin and Alexei Voevoda, they drove along the track many times, and his charges even more. People who turn others on by their example command respect. Luders has a contract until 2015 inclusive, and only professionals will remain in the team with him. And there will be no characters in the national team who are not used to and do not like to work.
– On October 26, in the presence of the Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko and the President of the International Bobsleigh Federation Ivo Ferriano, the Olympic track underwent an official homologation procedure.Any comments?
– The main thing is that a gutter has been made. And well done. If he was dangerous, we would not have held the Russian Cup. There are infrastructure shortcomings: there is no asphalt on the path, no trees are planted. It won’t take long to eliminate them. Everything will be all right by the test stage of the World Cup.
– Will any of the young Russians be able to shake the positions of leaders Alexander Zubkov, Alexander Tretyakov and Olga Potylitsyna in the season?
– I don’t want to give out advances. Moreover, even today the crews of bobsledder Alexander Zubkov, both two and four, are still objectively stronger than others. As well as Alexander Tretyakov with Olga Potylitsyna in a skeleton. However, due to the observance of the selection criteria, the guys who previously had no option to get into the main team had the opportunity to prove themselves. In past years, some of those who play in the United States today could not get into the national team due to the preconceived opinions of the coaches, who, turning a blind eye to the selection results, could easily introduce someone to the team at their discretion, but someone, on the contrary, withdraw.Today everyone is equal and performs on the highest class technique. Luders, seeing our technique, said that it was enough: “Guys, you must work so that later, as they say, no excuse.”
– During the preparatory period, the national team trained in completely different conditions than before. Previously, summer camps were held, for example, in the Lipetsk region, but now the athletes lived in the luxurious “Grand Hotel Polyana” …
– You need to train where the Games will take place. The main funding comes from the Ministry of Sports. But what the national team is missing, adds the federation and its sponsors. One way or another, but the team, a little less than a year ago, walked in Lake Placid with bowed heads, has now changed. After all, it is important for everyone, including athletes, to feel comfortable and cozy. I don’t want to make promises, but for our part we are trying to do our best to ensure all conditions for successful performances. We need to create a strong team, lay a foundation in which no one can find even cracks for their selfish interests. The system should work regardless of whether I am the president of the federation or not.
Medvedev invited Putin to become president

Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev announced that they intend to change places after the presidential elections : Putin plans to return to the presidency, Medvedev is to head the government.According to Medvedev, they agreed on this a long time ago.
Dmitry Medvedev announced at the congress of the United Russia party that Putin will run for president.
“I think it would be right for the congress to support the candidacy of the chairman of the party, Vladimir Putin, for the presidency of the country,” Medvedev said.
The Congress applauded these words for almost a minute.
According to Medvedev, he and Putin made the decision on such a rotation a long time ago.
“We discussed this scenario back in the period when our comradely union was formed,” the president said.
Officially, United Russia is going to nominate Putin’s candidacy after the December elections to the State Duma.
Medvedev himself is ready to work in the government. According to him, it will be a “radically renewed government”, which will be formed by the “victorious party”, that is, “United Russia”.
Before Medvedev’s speech, Vladimir Putin, in a short speech, suggested that Medvedev should head the list of United Russia candidates for the State Duma elections.
“In recent years, we have developed a practice according to which the president is at the head of the electoral list of United Russia. I think that this tradition should not be violated,” Putin said.
“We believe that this is far from the main thing – who will do what and who will sit in what places. Much more important is another thing: how we all work with you, what results we achieve,” Putin said.
“A monstrous blow to the institution of the presidency, the authority of which Putin previously restored,” – so in an interview with bbcrussian.com characterized the decision of Putin and Medvedev by political scientist Gleb Pavlovsky.

The fact that Putin and Medvedev are changing places was announced at the United Russia congress
“Putin is coming to a place that now appears to be bargaining,” Pavlovsky said. He considers the events at the United Russia Congress “Medvedev’s political surrender.”
According to Pavlovsky, Medvedev wanted to run for a second term, and this was considered natural by both United Russia and the electorate loyal to the authorities, but the president was “pressured”.
“I didn’t expect Medvedev to turn out to be so insignificant,” Yuri Korgunyuk, a political analyst from the INDEM Foundation, told bbcrussian. com.
Until now, Korgunyuk assumed that there is a serious struggle in power circles between the liberal “Medvedev’s party” and the conservative “Putin’s party”, and the intermediate result of this struggle will be that Medvedev will run for a second presidential term, and Putin will become the speaker of the State Duma with the help of the Duma majority of “United Russia” to protect themselves from the “Medvedev”.
“Under Medvedev, the emphasis shifted somewhat, and although Putin remained in the leading roles in many respects, general liberalization still took place. And here they got a bad rap. It’s not clear what, but very painful. Suddenly it turned out that it was all a semblance.” , – Korgunyuk laments.
“It turned out that there are people who are absolutely incapable of anything,” the political scientist added.
The appointment of Medvedev as the number one on the United Russia electoral list looks like “complete mockery” in Korgunyuk’s eyes.
“Well, where is such a person who – nobody, who is zero, can lead the party. It is clear that nowhere, it is clear that everything will be based solely on falsifications, that the authorities no longer expect to raise the rating with the help of some political technological manipulations “United Russia,” says Korgunyuk.
Political scientist Dmitry Andreev admits that Putin’s return to the presidency is “an absolute revenge of the bureaucratic majority, which rejected Medvedev.”
On the other hand, Andreev suggests, years will be taken by the “new Putin” who will have to take into account what was done in the “Medvedev” period.
“He will have to take into account all those timid, weak, uncertain liberal promises of the outgoing president, promises that were perceived by the active social minority of society as positive, caused a storm of enthusiasm and gave the right to expectations that there will be a second Medvedev’s term and there will be changes,” Andreev told the BBC Russian Service.
However, all this is a fortune-telling on the coffee grounds, Andreyev admits, but in reality all fluctuations in the political course in Russia depend on the world economic situation, primarily on energy prices.

Medvedev and Putin: about elections and each other
14 February. Vladimir Putin is confident that Dmitry Medvedev, who is running for the presidency of the country, will be able to become a successful and effective head of state in terms of his business qualities and work experience.
“I am sure that this will be a good president, a worthy president and an effective leader,” Putin said when asked why he supported Medvedev’s candidacy.
March 2. Following the results of the last presidential elections, Dmitry Medvedev becomes the new head of Russia.
March 29. Answering the BBC when asked if he is already thinking about a second presidential term, Dmitry Medvedev said: “I would like to finalize this term first and see what will happen. ”
“Only the person who considers his stay in power to be successful has the right to make such plans for the next term,” the president added.
Medvedev says he wants to see Russia as an educated democratic country and is ready for a photo shoot if it helps the West learn more about him.
15 September. Dmitry Medvedev did not rule out that he will run for the presidency of Russia in 2012.
“Some time ago I was not going to run for president either, but fate decreed that, and therefore I am not planning anything for myself, I am not ruling anything out,” Medvedev said at a meeting with members of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also said that he considers it possible to elect a party president in Russia and does not exclude that this may happen in the next elections.
“I think that this [election of a party president] is possible. It may even be possible in the next elections in 2012. We will wait and see. This trend exists. It is perceived by people,” Medvedev said at a meeting with participants in the discussion club Valdai.
December 3. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has yet to decide whether to run for president in 2012.
“I think there is still enough time. Each of us in his place today must fulfill his duty, work effectively. And depending on how the situation in the economy, the situation in the social sphere, appropriate decisions will be made on the election campaign 2012, but today is only 2009, “Putin said.
April 24. President Dmitry Medvedev again does not rule out that he will run for a second term in 2012.
“If it is necessary for my country and in order to maintain the course that has been formed in recent years (I mean the period when Vladimir Putin was at the head of state, and the period when I am in head of state), then I absolutely do not rule out anything for myself, including participation in these elections, “Medvedev said in an interview with the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.
June 9. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that he and President Dmitry Medvedev agreed “not to fuss” and not be distracted by the problem of the 2012 elections, they will discuss this topic closer to the start of the campaign.
“We need to live until 2012. Now we are only in 2010. The most important thing is that I have the opportunity to serve my people, my country. And, I want to repeat once again: the level of competence is colossal, and the cost of the decisions made is very significant. Therefore, I like what I am doing now, what I am doing now. And let’s get closer to 2012, we’ll see, “Putin said in an interview with Agence France-Presse and the France 2 TV channel.
August 2. ” I don’t know what will happen in 2012, I don’t know who will to run, “- said the head of state at a meeting with journalists.” It could be Medvedev, maybe Putin, or maybe someone else, “he suggested.” In any case, be sure to [need] to think about it, “said Medvedev.
“The country must be allowed to develop steadily, the country must live according to a predictable scenario,” he explained.
August 30. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that he is more interested in the issue of the 2012 elections than others, but he does not make a fetish of this and does not feel any dependence on the rating.
In an interview with the Kommersant newspaper, when asked if Putin is not interested in the problem of the 2012 elections because he decided everything for himself, the prime minister replied: “No, he is interested in how and… wanted to say, like everyone else, but in fact more than everyone else. But I’m not making a fetish out of this. “
December 29. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reaffirmed that he and President Dmitry Medvedev will make an agreed decision on participation in the 2012 presidential elections.
” We will do this in concert, “the prime minister said, answering a question from journalists when he decides on the possibility of his participation in the 2012 elections.
April 13. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that neither he nor President Dmitry Medvedev excludes participation in the 2012 presidential elections.
“Neither I, nor Dmitry Anatolyevich rule out that each of us can go to the polls. We will proceed from the realities of the current situation by the time of the elections,” Putin told reporters on Wednesday.
“Of course, someday this decision must be made. But there is still almost a year before the elections, and this fuss does not contribute to the normal organization of work,” Putin said.
“If we now give some wrong signals, half of the administration and more than half of the government will stop working in anticipation of some changes,” the prime minister said.
April 15. Vladimir Putin, the leader of United Russia, asked United Russia not to talk about the upcoming presidential elections, but to focus on current work and the upcoming Duma campaign.
“As for the presidential election campaign, I ask you not to talk about this, do not get excited about this, it will be next year, everyone needs to work in their places. As for the Duma election campaign, it has actually already begun, “Putin said.
April 27. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin considers it premature to talk about participation in the 2012 presidential elections, but promises that the decision will be made by journalists
“As for the presidential election campaign in Russia, it’s really too early to talk about it, the time will come and we will take an appropriate decision,” he said, answering the question when it will become known whether he will run for president …
May 8. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says that if he decides to run again for this post, he would like to rely on the parties, including those that nominated him for the first term of office.
“If I run for president, I would like to rely on certain political forces, there is no other way – these are political parties,” the president said at a press conference.
May 19. Dmitry Medvedev avoided a direct answer to the question about the possibility of his second term, but said that it was certainly possible to hope for this.
“I hope that the materials of my yesterday’s communication with journalists are known to you, I explained in some detail my position on when and when what decisions need to be voiced. If you ask me a question in this vein – is it possible to hope, then hope absolutely definitely possible, “Medvedev said.
June 18. President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he would announce whether he would run for a second term “in a special format” and promised not long to wait.
“Such decisions, as a rule, are thought out and made in an absolutely special format. And I will inform you of my decision. You can rest assured of only one thing – I cannot avoid this happy fate, I cannot do so not to inform about my decision to the Russian people and all interested people who are present in this hall, “Medvedev said.
June 20. Dmitry Medvedev believes that a scenario in which both he and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin would run for the presidency in 2012 would not be the best for the country.
“The fact is that Vladimir Putin and I (both my colleague and my old friend) still largely represent one and the same political force. In this sense, competition between us, it can be harmful, in fact , those tasks and those goals that we have been implementing in recent years. Therefore, probably, this would not be the best scenario for our country and for a specific situation, “the president said.
June 21. All upcoming elections in Russia – both parliamentary and presidential – will be held in strict accordance with the law, the main character will be the voter, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.
“At the beginning of December this year, elections to the Russian parliament will take place, and in March next year, there will be presidential elections in the Russian Federation. Both elections, I assure you, will be held in strict accordance with the current legislation and the Constitution of the Russian Federation. The main character and in either case there will be not even specific candidates, but the Russian people, who must decide who will be president, who will represent Russia in parliament, the regions of the Russian Federation, the corresponding constituencies in the State Duma, “the prime minister said.
June 30. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced that after the presidential elections in March 2012 “he will be engaged in hygiene.”
“I’ll go to wash. And in the hygienic sense of the word, and in the political one. After all the campaigns that we have to go through, we will need to properly do hygiene,” Putin replied.
Politicians on the tandem solution

The fact that Vladimir Putin decided to swap places with Medvedev was not news for politicians
Russian politicians reacted sluggishly to Vladimir Putin’s decision to return to presidents, calling it expected and essentially not changing anything.
“There is nothing new for us,” Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov told reporters, commenting on statements by Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev that the former will run in the 2012 presidential elections, and the latter is “ready to work in the government.”
“The tandem is forced to maneuver, because any attempts to destroy it will lead to the collapse of the entire policy of recent years,” Interfax quotes Zyuganov.
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said that he had been waiting for the announcement of the castling of the “tandemokrats” for a year or a year and a half.
“It was felt that Vladimir Vladimirovich was campaigning. He is constantly everywhere. If somewhere there is Medvedev, there must be Putin. […] Dmitry Anatolyevich began to subside for the last six months or a year,” Zhirinovsky said. He is pleased that the uncertainty about who will rule the country has now disappeared.
Chairman of the Yabloko party Sergei Mitrokhin said that the castling of the tandem has nothing to do with the democratic turnover of power and modernization.
“They want to leave it as it is for another 12 years. It means forever. It is up to people to decide whether they agree or not. There are no elections ahead, “Yabloko’s informal leader Grigory Yavlinsky commented on the statements of Medvedev and Putin in his microblog.
In 2012, the Russian president will be elected for six years, not four, as it has been until now. At the same time, Putin will again be able to remain president for two consecutive terms
The leader of the Fair Russia party, Sergei Mironov, however, urged “not to add six plus six.”Why he assumes that Putin may not stay for two terms, Mironov did not explain.
“Non-systemic” oppositionists were also not surprised by Putin’s decision and sharply criticized him.
“Irremovability of power is the worst scenario for Russia,” Interfax quotes co-chairman of the unregistered People’s Freedom Party (PARNAS) Boris Nemtsov.
Another of the leaders of PARNAS, Vladimir Milov, is not surprised by the announcement made by Medvedev and Putin, who, in his words, “have remained in tandem.”Nevertheless, Milov sees one positive point.
“In general, it is good that everything became clear sooner rather than later. Now there is an understandable opponent in both the parliamentary and presidential elections. This makes the situation easier,” Milov wrote in his blog.
According to Milov, with the return of Putin in society, “the conflict between the demand for changes and the inability of the new-old president to ensure these changes will intensify.”
The leader of the unregistered opposition Other Russia party, Eduard Limonov, gloated over loyal liberals who pinned their hopes on Medvedev as a reformer.
“The Liberals twitched and hoped for Medvedev a lot. They didn’t hope. Dmitry Medvedev appoints Vladimir Putin as his successor. Apparently, this will be an eternal story,” Limonov told reporters.
Is the West restrained but disappointed?
The BBC Russian Service asked for the opinion of Western experts on the castling in the Russian ruling tandem.

Putin’s nomination is not surprising. He has long signaled that he plans to return in 2012. The remainder of President Medvedev’s term is no longer important.
Putin continued to effectively rule the country after formally resigning [as president] in May 2008.
The reason Putin’s nomination was made so early has to do with an attempt to shift the focus from the Duma and United Russia elections to Putin. Given the fact that the popularity of United Russia is falling, and there is also a real risk of poor turnout, these elections seem to provide an opportunity to vote for a presidential candidate, which is a good chance to retain party mandates.
I do not think there will be a return to the management style and agenda of the previous Putin administration. This is simply not possible in the current situation.
It is clear that the current model of the economy, oil dependence, cannot support the country’s economic growth. In order to achieve growth above 5%, Russia needs to find a much more serious volume of investments and somehow attract foreign investors.
I believe that Putin’s cabinet will be reformatory and oriented towards the country’s business interests. And of course, WTO membership is a priority.
I do not think that the markets will somehow react to this news, because investors are more concerned about global events and lower oil prices.
Anders Aslund, Lead Researcher at the Peterson Institute for World Economics in Washington DC
Putin was expected to be nominated in America. There has been talk lately that Putin is deciding which position is more suitable for him: prime minister or president.
The official response from the US administration will be polite, but I believe the news will be received very negatively behind the scenes. First of all, [Putin’s return to the Kremlin] means that Russia is indeed an authoritarian regime […]. In addition, under him, relations between Russia and America became more complicated, and he did nothing to somehow normalize them.
I don’t think the relationship between the US and Russia will change much economically. Now decision-making in the economic aspect was hampered by the lack of clarity about what political future awaited Russia. Now the clarity has come and now the American administration will be able to start working normally and build a strategy for cooperation.
Of course, after the elections, Russia will face a serious question of cutting costs. Over the past two years, the country has had a fairly populist financial regime.
For Russia, the most important issue is accession to the WTO. The first such opportunity will be presented in December. And, perhaps, because Putin has already been declared president, Russia will be more energetic in addressing the issue of accession. There are only two or three unresolved points left, which Russia itself must clarify for itself. America, on the other hand, will not obstruct Russia’s accession to the WTO because of Putin.
Helen Samuely, assistant of the House of Lords in the Parliament of Great Britain
Recently it has become especially noticeable that in this kind of competition between Medvedev and Putin, Medvedev lagged behind. If Putin is a candidate, then, given the way things are in Russia, he will certainly win.
I don’t think this is a signal for Britain.I do not think that this will somehow affect Russian-British relations in general.
Medvedev was viewed by many in Britain as more liberal. He talked a lot about the need to make Russia a country of law and law, but, unfortunately, little has come of it so far.
Although it should be noted that there is not much difference between Putin and Medvedev. Even the fact that we can say that whoever is a candidate will also be president – this very fact, from the West, simply shows the state of Russian democracy.
As seen from Britain, Medvedev’s departure to the background indicates that liberal ideas are not very popular in the Russian state.
For the West, Putin is directly linked to authoritarianism because he has publicly expressed his belief that the collapse of the USSR is the greatest tragedy in world history. Still, Medvedev did not make such statements, but on the contrary called for an understanding of what happened in the USSR under Stalin.
“Whoever is the president is a kamikaze”
Russian political scientists and economists call the news of Putin’s nomination predictable, but note a number of surprises.
Gleb Pavlovsky, President of the Foundation for Effective Politics
Certainty is always better than uncertainty, only if it is not a war.
Of course, a lot is being explained, but even more raises questions. I admit that this scene of Medvedev’s political surrender has some subtext that is unknown to us. Apparently, he could not explain it.
I do not exclude that Medvedev is saving Russia from something worse, for example, a coup. This means that there was some kind of pressure on him that we did not see.All this as a whole bears an extremely unpleasant and obscene character in the independence of Medvedev’s attitude to Putin.
This is, of course, an amazing event, despite the fact that it has been discussed for a year. The nomination of two candidates, Putin and Medvedev, seemed politically impractical from the point of view of any scenario, any strategy for Russia’s future.
I do not see any strengthening of Putin’s position. Putin is a man who won the trust and love of the people in the past decade without resorting to such “tricks.”If he did not have this undeniable trust, then he could not have handed over the presidency to Medvedev so easily and naturally. He was protected by his, if you like, the charisma of a national leader and a person very respected by people.
Not so today. Putin is at the head of a shaky structure. This is where the hidden risks of our system begin to emerge. His own psychology, his own fears, which Putin apparently had, are placed above the political fate of the country. This suggests that things are not going well.
Medvedev has never publicly renounced, and not publicly either, from his intention to be a presidential candidate. The United Russia party and the entire loyal electorate, and this is really the majority of voters, considered it natural that Medvedev would run for a second term. At the same time, since the beginning of the year, Putin has begun giving numerous, albeit very strange, signals that he does not like this. In fact, he created a sense of inhibition in power.
By the way, today at the congress an unprecedented statement was made since Stalin’s times: it was proposed to consider the speeches of the president and the prime minister as the party’s program. There were no such statements at any congress of the CPSU after Stalin.
This is a monstrous blow to the institution of the president, whose authority Putin has restored. Putin, in fact, comes to a place that now, as it turns out, is being bargained for.
Olga Kryshtanovskaya, Director of the Institute for Applied Politics
For Russia, this nomination of Vladimir Putin is a predictable thing – the ruling group, which has been in power, has persisted over the past ten years.Only configuration changes and staff rotation is foreseen.
I, at one time, thought about possible scenarios, it was back in 2002. My forecast was as follows – there are two possible options for a change of power: “swing”, when Putin and Medvedev change places twice; or a chain of successors – each time it will be Putin’s successor.
This time the “swing” variant is being implemented: Putin returns to the Kremlin, Medvedev – to the second most important position in Russian politics.
The Russian state is, after all, authoritarian in its essence, and this is how it happened historically. We have always had absolutism.
The current government is trying to find opportunities for the transition to democracy with slow steps, so as not to destabilize the state, so that society, like a sand clock, does not turn over […] – this is usually followed by repression. The cycle. “The Red Wheel,” as Solzhenitsyn called it.
Aware of the responsibility for this, Putin and Medvedev and the entire team believe that it is too early to open the gates and give complete freedom. There is a controlled freedom zone.
It seems to me that in 2018 there will be really different elections in Russia. But for now, Russia is moving slowly towards democracy, making freedom and competition more and more attainable.
It is clear that there will be modernization, and this is not a matter of Mr. Putin’s personal preferences. Russia will simply explode if planes fall with the same frequency, trains crash, accidents occur in housing and communal services. Russia needs modernization.
Boris Kagarlitsky, Director of the Institute for Globalization and Social Movements.
It was very difficult to make a mistake here. The calculation was 50% for any bet, that is, there is nothing incredible and surprising. Honestly, it was not very interesting to me, because I don’t see much difference here. This is an apparatus reshuffle and should be of concern to officials, not the population.
Russia does not adhere to any course, it just drifts – as it goes, so it goes. In this regard, the personality of the person who was nominated for the post of chief executive, in general, does not really matter.
This may be interesting for some specific groups that are lobbying for their specific interests. All this has nothing to do with the life of the country.
Russia cannot publicly say that we do not need a president, although in reality this most likely would not change anything. In Russia, there is no logic of politics, but only the logic of a handful of bureaucrats. For there to be a logic of politics, there must be a struggle between opposing ideologies, principles and approaches. […]
In Russia, power is in the hands of a group of people who do not really care about implementing policy through the institutions of civil society, since they either do not exist or they are very weak.In fact, Russia has normal corporate governance.
The problems are different: anyway, the system will collapse in the near future. It has nothing to do with politics. With oil prices below, say, $ 80 per barrel, in the current state of the financial system, whoever is the president or prime minister is a kamikaze.
Mikhail Vinogradov, President of the Petersburg Politics Foundation
The decision is quite unexpected. I thought the decision would be made public later.I do not believe that Putin’s return was necessarily predetermined.
Part of the surprise is the prime minister’s seat for Mr Medvedev. It is difficult to say to what extent he will be able to form a strong team, but the tandem itself remains.
New intrigues arise. In particular, will the new government be ready for economic reforms, and how much will this increase the rating of United Russia?
Putin’s return is a rather conservative scenario. And in this regard, the question arises: how ready is Putin for serious political transformations and economic reforms?
This also means that we should not expect any qualitatively radical renewal. And also that the authorities consider the preservation of the paternalistic majority to be significant, [for them] is more important than the intellectual minority, to which Medvedev has recently been addressing. But questions about the content of the course remain open.
In relations with the West, the course will remain conservative, it is unlikely that anything will qualitatively change, there will be a kind of situational balancing.
The West will not be the enemy, but disagreements will arise from time to time. In principle, the Russian elite understands that the West is not an enemy, but this does not serve as a reason not to organize, from time to time, anti-Western mobilization of the country’s public opinion.
As an election program, the tandem’s actions are logical. The only question that remains is the post-election program.
IPC World Powerlifting Championships to be held from November 27 to December 5, 2021 in Georgia | PKR
World Parapowerlifting on June 23 announced that in Batumi (Georgia), from November 27 to December 5, the next World Championship among juniors and adults will be held.
The competition was originally scheduled to take place in Eger, Hungary from December 1-9, but World Parapowerlifting, following an agreement with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the Hungarian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), revoked the competition rights.
This will be the second major powerlifting event to be held in Georgia this year. Last month, the country hosted the World Cup in Tbilisi for the first time, in which about 100 athletes from 25 countries took part.
World Parapowerlifting Head Jorge Moreno said:
“The COVID pandemic has posed a number of challenges to the world that have also impacted the Paralympic movement. Due to the postponement of the Paralympic Games, we had to change the previously announced program and reschedule the World Cup, originally scheduled for mid-2021.Recent months have forced us to find a new venue for the 2021 championship. The decision was made in agreement with the Hungarian National Paralympic Committee. The competition marks the start of a new Paralympic cycle, which will conclude with the Paris Games in 2024. We express our gratitude to the National Paralympic Committee of Georgia for participating in this championship. I am sure that our sports community will highly appreciate the efforts made to organize the championship in such a short time frame.
We also appreciate the work of the Hungarian Paralympic Committee on the development of parapowerlifting. We look forward to working with Eger again as the city has a long tradition of hosting powerlifting competitions. ”

Stanislav Shevchenko re-elected President of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation – Rossiyskaya Gazeta
The All-Russian Volleyball Federation in Moscow held the XV reporting and election conference. Its main outcome was easily predictable. Stanislav Shevchenko was re-elected President of the All-Russian Federation for a term of four years.
The fact that Shevchenko had no opponents in the elections is quite logical. During the reporting period, the federation has done a tremendous job of popularizing the sport in the country, and our teams on the international arena have shown outstanding results. The men’s national team won the London Olympics and took both the World League gold and the World Cup trophy last season. The women’s team became the world champion for the second time in a row in 2010.
A major breakthrough was also made in beach volleyball. For the first time, we managed to delegate three pairs to the Summer Games at once, the girls won the European Team Cup, and Evgenia Ukolova and Ekaterina Khomyakova this year became our first tandem who managed to rise to the highest step of the podium in the Grand Slam series. If we talk about the successes of club teams, then Kazan “Zenith” won the men’s Champions League, and the capital’s Dynamo won the second most important continental trophy – the CEV Cup.
– I would like to thank the entire volleyball community for the productive work, – said Stanislav Shevchenko. – Our numerous achievements in the international arena are the merit not only of the federation, but also of the clubs and all those who enthusiastically serve the good of the sport. Special thanks to the representatives of the press. We have good contact with the media, they are actively promoting volleyball, and we plan to cooperate even more closely with journalists.
